There are fewer cameras Sony presented a new compact sub-flagship Xperia 5 V. The smartphone received an updated camera system with an enlarged main sensor, but again without a telephoto lens. The smartphone is equipped with a 6.1-inch OLED screen with FHD+ resolution, with a frequency of 120 Hz and an aspect ratio of 21: 9 and front stereo speakers located above and below the display. [caption id="attachment_50745" align="aligncenter" width="780"] Sony Xperia 5 V[/caption] Sony installed the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 single-chip system in the Xperia 5 V, as well as 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal flash memory, which can be expanded using a microSD card slot. The 3.5mm headphone jack found on the smartphone is a rarity these days. Sony has ditched the triple camera in favor of a dual camera. The Xperia 5 V has the same 1/1.35-inch 52MP main sensor as the Xperia 1 V. By default, it shoots 12MP images. You can do 2x zoom without losing quality. Sony Xperia 5 V compact sub-flagship unveiled The phone is 11 grams heavier and slightly thicker than before, but slightly shorter than its predecessor. The Xperia 5 V enters the shrinking compact flagship market and will compete with the Samsung Galaxy S23 and the upcoming Apple iPhone 15 and 15 Pro. https://youtu.be/hRkwg7t2TAg The 5000 mAh battery can be charged to 50% in 30 minutes using a 30 W charger, which is not included in the package.

Plymouth Volare Premier Station Wagon, 1976. Plymouth's flagship compact wagon came with simulated woodgrain panels framed by stainless steel trim. The long-roof versions of the Volare and sister model Dodge Aspen were initially the largest selling F-body models but development of the cars had been rushed and a reputation for poor-build quality led to a rapid decline in sales of the whole range.

Museums / Cultural Centers No: 164 Toronto Reference Library Location: Toronto, ON, Canada Year: 1977 Architect: Raymond Moriyama ‌ The Toronto Reference Library (TRL) is the flagship of the world’s busiest urban library system. Occupying over 416,000 sqf, it is a centrally located landmark which opened its doors in 1977. Designed by architect Raymond Moriyama, the robust five-storey building was clad in red brick, its mass scaled back by terracing the façade along the diagonal. Bands of mirrored glass suggested an inner world within. The narrow corner entrance, flanked on two sides by a colonnade, drew patrons into the building’s soaring interior. With escalating demands on the library system, the TRL recently completed an extensive five-year phased revitalization led by Moriyama & Teshima Architects, though its cofounder Raymond has since retired. The building buzzes from top to bottom. It is centred on a vast tiered atrium inspired by the Hanging Gardens of Babylon. The interiors are bright, airy and uncluttered. A double-height rotunda dedicated to special collections reinterprets the romantic feel of old libraries with a distinctly modern material palette of concrete, titanium and dark wood. The building employs concealed mezzanines to maximize overall storage capability, amplified through the use of space-saving compact shelves. Open-plan layouts were rezoned for easier self-navigation; stacks were reconfigured to facilitate research. The library continues to explore and adopt emerging technological tools to better monitor collections and support learning and discovery.

Upcoming Music Startup Aiming to Merge Physical Instruments with Tech
September 26 - ALEPH
In a press release on Wednesday, tech/music startup AbleSound Acoustics unveiled their new flagship product. Named the Tondeker, it is a device that is meant to act as a "full-featured DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) in the shape of a guitar, capable of interfacing with the musician's body in a way that feels just as natural as a classical electric guitar," the CEO claims.
"As technology advances, our devices have grown relentlessly compact and autonomous. Physical instruments have been made redundant, and the process of music creation has been condensed to fit wholly within a tiny chip our myriad of electronic devices. The creative process itself is no longer mandatory, either - There are programs out there that are more than capable of generating anything we want- including music - in the fraction of a second! That's well and good, but it's hardly stimulating."
"Here at AbleSound Acoustics, we believe in rebuilding the bridge between the joys of musical composition and the ease of entry that modern computing affords us. We want to reignite that spark in a budding musician's eyes and give them the tools to create music using their own two hands, instead of submitting a request to an app. We want people to remember the satisfaction of listening to a composition that was crafted directly by a human, and with human hands - Imperfections and all. What's more is that we can still make use of the incredible technological advances given to us by the CoE; they have inspired us to develop tools that can push ourselves so much further, and that's exactly what we've done by designing the Tondeker."
"The Tondeker is not a true guitar, but rather a computer in the approximate shape of one. Remember those? This allows us to bridge the gap between analog and digital, and digitize the physical act of playing your guitar. With the acoustics module installed and active, you'll notice that the strings are not actually there, but they look and feel as if they were! We have combined the principle of a theremin with cutting-edge hard light technology to give you perfect haptic perception while maintaining full digital control over the instrument. Don't like tuning your guitar? Don't worry, the computer will do it for you! But the key thing is that you can still do it yourself. With the Tondeker, you will always have that choice. No part of the process will ever be withheld from you."
Tumblr media
Attached is a picture of the current Tondeker prototype from the press release. In spite of criticisms regarding its design and intended target audience, AbleSound remains optimistic and will begin shipping test units in Q4 later this year.

Ukraine is not just sitting around waiting for aid to arrive. It is developing its own arms industry that is taking a toll on Russian aggressors.
Warbirds of Ukraine is a company which makes innovative cutting edge drones.
Ukraine puts MacGyver to shame. When they experienced supply chain issues for foreign components for UAVs, they simply started manufacturing their own.
The name Warbirds of Ukraine reminds me of the Romulans in Star Trek. Don't be surprised if they develop cloaking technology for their UAVs.
Most people know that Ukraine sunk the Moskva, flagship of Russia's Black Sea Fleet, with a Ukrainian-made Neptun R-360 missile. It is not the only homegrown ingenuity put to use by Ukraine.
In addition to the UAVs and missiles, here are other examples of Ukrainians developing technology to push back Putin's invaders.
Ukraine is developing what amounts to compact tank drones.
Ukrainian versatile unmanned combat vehicle undergoes frontline testing
Ukraine is manufacturing custom self-propelled howitzers called the 2s22 Bohdana which can fire NATO-standard 155 mm caliber shells. They have a range of 40 km.
Bohdana self-propelled gun is produced in several versions - Militarnyi
Ukraine is doing a lot for its own defense. And NATO countries may be interested in some of these technologies for their own defense needs.
But when you're under attack by a country with 3.5 times your population which holds vast oil reserves and is led by an irrational dictator bent on restoring the hegemony of a defunct empire, you need some outside help to survive.
So if you're in the United States, contact your House member in Washington and demand that aid to Ukraine, which was left out of the measure to keep the government running through mid-November, be approved ASAP.

THOUGHTS ON THE WORLD'S... SLIMMEST FOLDABLE?
Tumblr media
Being a foldable fanatic I have been lucky to test use the last generation Honor V2 and it satisfied if not almost what I expected of a foldable for its time.
It's the year of the Honor V3 and several noteworthy features has undeniably grabbed my eyeballs.
My thoughts is first of all on the newest and thinnest body plus folded look, not just for Honor past foldables but the foldable industry in general, it comes with a 9.2mm folding thickness, it weighs about 226 grams and that's next level based on what brands have offered so far making it already dubbed as the "World's Slimmest Foldable", the slim design plus the weight earns it a 10/10 in my durability rating, the Honor V3 is definitely sending me some comfort vibes, so sleek looking and compact to be carried and lifted anywhere with zero chances of burden, A1 rating here ✅
Periscope on this device is nothing short of the word INCREDIBLE, the device already has some impressive array of cameras but I'm most thrilled with the periscope, we are still crying to some brands to help us develop a periscope lens on regular slab devices which is more easier and practical, but look the Honor V3 has a 3.5x optical periscope telephoto lens even for a foldable, foldables before are known to miss out on certain features because of their come factor, but Honor definitely did not compromise with the Honor V3 🫴
They gave it their all.
50W wireless charging on a 5150mah is mega, someone please help me ask Honor how they managed to achieve this incredible battery while still maintaining the compact 9.2mm look of the V3?
I have no idea about smartphone engineering but I know a great job when I see one, the battery is good enough to cover daily needs for us consumers even the hardcore Call of Duty gamers, I use a basic bar phone with 4600mAh, so I hope you get why I'm so excited for a foldable to beat me to it lol, we don't get this much on the foldable side of things but the Honor V3 did it and it's worth feasting on, I would definitely love to share my feedback after some time of real life uses.
Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 is the processor of this generation so i definitely saw this one coming since Honor V3 is a flagship foldable like the Samsung Z Fold 6, but I still would love to see how the processor blends in terms of performance and optimisation with Magic OS, OS often times determine how best the hardware responds that's why two phones can have same hardware but one performs better, it's not rockery science, since the MagicOS has a history of doing well, I'm eye peeled to see the optimisation with this beastly processor.
The Ai features is something I haven't seen more light on since but I think after the launch in September 5, we would be seeing more of that. Ai easily gets me excited these days, why you may ask?
So many scenarios are painted in my head for the Honor V3, like what would it do?, how far does it take user experience? What are the features; I know there is Ai eraser, Ai studio, Ai camera focus.. but is there any chance the Honor V3 has anything different in store for the enthusiasts?
I'm genuinely positive for the possibilities the Honor V3 can create with Ai integration for the foldable department, let's wait and see. September 5 it is guys 🗓️

Honda to join forces with Aston Martin from 2026
Honda to join forces with Aston Martin from 2026 By Balazs Szabo on 24 May 2023, 08:57 Ahead of the Monaco Grand Prix, Aston Martin has today announced that it will be entering into a works partnership with Honda from the 2026 F1 season onwards. Honda returned to the sport in 2018 when it started supplying powertrains to Toro Rosso (now Scuderia Alpha Tauri) in 2018 before moving up the ladder to supply engines to Red Bull Racing in 2019. The partnership culminated in a world championship in 2021 when Max Verstappen secured his first title in the Honda-powered Red Bull Racing car with the success repeated last year when the Milton Keynes-based squad clinched both the Drivers’ and Constructors’ Championships. The announcement also means that Aston Martin’s long-time partnership with Mercedes is set to come to an end. The Anglo-German manufacturer has been the engine supplier of the Silverstone-based team since 2009 with the partnership set to continue until the end of the current power unit era. It means that Aston Martin will use the Mercedes-developed power units, plus the gearbox and rear suspension until the end of 2025. “One of the key reasons for our decision to take up the new challenge in F1 is that the world’s pinnacle form of racing is striving to become a sustainable racing series, which is in line with the direction Honda is aiming toward carbon neutrality, and it will become a platform which will facilitate the development of our electrification technologies,” said Honda CEO Toshihiro Mibe. “Honda is a company that has a history of growing by taking on challenges and winning world-class races. With the new 2026 regulations, the key for winning will be a compact, lightweight, and high-power electric motor with a high-performance battery capable of handling high and swift power output, as well as the energy management technology. “We believe that the technologies and know-how gained from this new challenge can potentially be applied directly to our future mass production electric vehicles, such as an electric flagship sports model, and electrification technologies in various areas, including eVTOL which is currently under research and development. “Honda and our new partner, the Aston Martin F1 Team, share the same sincere attitude and determination to win, so starting with the 2026 season, we will work together and strive for the Championship title as Aston Martin Aramco Honda. Aston Martin owner Lawrence Stroll said: “We share a mutual drive, determination, and relentless ambition to succeed on track. Honda is a global titan and its success in motorsport is longstanding and incredibly impressive.” Koji Watanabe, President of Honda Racing Corporation – the racing division of Honda which will run the project – added: “In the midst of major changes in our business and the motorsports environment leading toward the transition to a carbon neutral society, we have re-established HRC as an optimal platform to sustain and further evolve motorsport activities as a Honda strength. We will establish sustainable operational structures for our racing activities and continue to deliver more dreams and excitement for motorsports fans all around the world.” Group CEO of Aston Martin Performance Technologies Martin Whitmarsh added: “The new 2026 F1 power unit regulations are a huge and important change, but one which we are confident we can navigate successfully together. Jointly with our strategic partner Aramco, we can look forward to open collaboration towards a common goal. “Our future works partnership with Honda is one of the last parts of the jigsaw puzzle slotting into place for Aston Martin’s ambitious plans in Formula 1. Finally, I would like to pay tribute to our current power unit supplier who we will continue to partner with for the next few seasons.” via F1Technical.net . Vintage antique Parker Lucky Curve #98 Plain Gold Filled Overlay Fountain Pen
Parker Lucky Curve
– Parker #98 pen
– Plain Gold overlay – ding-free
– Jack Knife
– with a ring top on a rope-crown
– Excellent black hard rubber without discoloration
– Antique grade, aged 100+ years
Parker Lucky Curve #98 Jack Knife fountain pen – Up here is a vintage Parker Lucky Curve #98 fountain pen, which was manufactured in USA circa 1910s.
The pen is in nice condition, ding-free only minor wears due to age. The pen is in plain gold filled overlay with no pattern, ding-free, in very nice condition. The plain gold filled overlay covered the whole pen, from cap top to barrel end screw cap. The black hard rubber is in nice condition, with minimal discoloration, pretty rare to find.
It bears a ring-top, with rope-crown.
There is a “M” on the cap. On the barrel is a nice imprint with patent dates, reads ‘PARKER FOUNTAIN PEN PAT. 6-30-91 1-3-05.’
The pen bears a stunning RARE 14ct Lucky curve gold nib in LUCKY CURVE BANNER Pattern. The iridium tip on the nib is intact, flexible, writing smooth fine to broad line. The pen, thought its age of over a century, is still Perfect in nice working condition.
The button filling system is in nice working condition.
The pen has been serviced and tested for full functionality. Only there is slight discoloration on the hard rubber. Yet considering its age of over 100 years it is still in nice condition. It is rare and very much sought after, of such a vintage  pen in nice condition. Ownership of pen with the history and prestige of the Parker, will provide the owner with a feeling of satisfaction and a sense of ceremony each time that they write.
The Parker Pen Company was founded in 1888 by George S. Parker, whose mission was to manufacture a better pen. The Parker Pen Company’s tradition epitomizes the highest standards of craftsmanship, technology, and aesthetics. From the 1920s to the 1960s, Parker was No.1 in worldwide writing instrument sales. The Parker Duofold is one of the most recognizable and enduring fountain pen designs. Launched in 1921, the pen was a phenomenal success and put the Parker Pen Company squarely into the front rank of fountain pen manufacturers. Duofold remain popular in Europe being produced well into the 60s in varying sizes and colors when it was revived in the 80’s once again as Parker’s Flagship model.
In 1932, Parker began test marketing the next generation in fountain pens, the Golden Arrow. This radical new pen featured a compact plunger-operated pump filler that nestled at the back end of the barrel, eliminating the space-hungry pressure bar and sac. The Golden Arrow was later renamed as Vacumatic. The Vacumatic went on the market in 1933; and discontinued in 1939, due to the introduction of new Aero-metric filler.
Parker pens were frequently selected to sign important documents such as the World War II armistices, and commemorative editions were sometimes offered.

Ru'thûn's flagship—and her Throne by extension—is integrated with miles upon miles of strange technology that, although heavily bedaubed by resinous secretion and benign wormrot, is unmistakably Vex in origin. perhaps even Vex in purposeful construction, as (foolish) preliminary scans would make clear to a Ghost that nowhere are the miles of cable and plating at all welded in place by claws or arcana.
"would make clear", not "have made clear"—Ru'thûn's Throne is an inevitably fatal place, though any Guardian who miraculously stumbles into it will believe they have discovered some kind of desertification process occurring within the Ascendant Plane, and Vanguard archives have reported it as such. the reason is fairly obvious, in that the outer space of her Throne is defined by a harsh, barren plain.
the fine sediment under one's feet is indeed sand, though dark grey, like bone char. strangely, the singular material comprising the sand is a metal, and an unidentifiable one at that. a compact block of it was requisitioned by the Vanguard, retrieved by the most unenthusiastic strike team this side of Saturn. field report contains a plethora of sardonic notes, highlights include a page devoted exclusively to tic tac toe.
a total of 80 expeditions were authorised to the so-called "desert", and the only reliable gateway—a small wound in the walls of the Idmon crater on Phoebe—was cordoned off after post-mortem accounts ferried by the last of a Ghost's Light became a statistic majority. audio files were puzzling, and particularly sinister. how can such a soundless place—so lacking in natural order that it is by all means a pseudovacuum—produce the resonance to amplify the weeping of a hopelessly lost soul? the anguish? the horrible, choral screaming? every attachment shows nothing but an empty, expansive plain.

Application of Micro Slide Switches in Portable Devices: Balancing Miniaturization, Feel, and Performance
Tumblr media
With the continuous drive for thinner and lighter consumer electronics such as smartphones, tablets, and wearables, the demand for miniaturized components has never been higher. Among these components, micro slide switches play a critical role in delivering reliable functionality while meeting the stringent size and design requirements of modern portable devices. This article explores the application of micro slide switches in portable devices, focusing on how miniaturization reduces switch thickness, satisfies the needs of mobile devices, and the methods used to balance size, tactile feedback, and performance.
1. The Challenge of Miniaturization in Micro Slide Switch Design
As portable devices become slimmer and more compact, micro slide switches must follow the same trend without compromising on performance or durability. The main challenge lies in reducing the overall thickness and footprint of the switch while maintaining the mechanical reliability and tactile feedback that users expect.
1.1 Reducing Thickness for Mobile Devices
One of the most significant technical challenges in micro slide switch design is minimizing thickness. In devices like smartphones and tablets, where internal space is at a premium, every millimeter counts. Manufacturers achieve this reduction by re-engineering the internal structure of slide switches, utilizing thinner housing materials and redesigning the actuator mechanism.
For example, using high-strength, lightweight alloys or advanced plastics for the switch casing allows the overall thickness to be reduced without sacrificing structural integrity. Additionally, integrating low-profile actuators with precise travel distances ensures that the switch performs well in tight spaces.
Example: A leading smartphone manufacturer integrated a custom-designed ultra-thin micro slide switch for the power control of their latest flagship model. The switch had a thickness of less than 1 mm, allowing the phone to achieve an overall thickness of 7.8 mm. This design innovation helped the brand meet consumer demands for thinner, more aesthetically pleasing devices.
1.2 Material Selection for Durability
Despite the miniaturization, the materials used in micro slide switches must still ensure robustness. High-performance materials such as stainless steel for the contacts and reinforced polymers for the housing are commonly used to achieve durability in a reduced form factor. These materials allow the switch to withstand frequent use while minimizing wear and tear.
Example: A well-known tablet manufacturer employed a micro slide switch with reinforced polymer housing and gold-plated contacts for volume control in their latest model. This combination not only allowed for a slim design but also extended the switch's lifespan by ensuring high corrosion resistance and reduced contact degradation over time.
2. Balancing Size, Tactile Feel, and Performance in Micro Slide Switches
Miniaturization must be carefully balanced with tactile feedback and performance to meet user expectations. While reducing size is critical, maintaining a satisfactory tactile response is equally important, as it directly affects the user’s perception of quality and usability.
2.1 Ensuring Consistent Tactile Feedback
In portable devices, tactile feedback is crucial for providing users with a sense of control and satisfaction when operating a switch. Micro slide switches are designed to deliver a crisp, well-defined tactile response despite their small size. This is typically achieved through precision-engineered spring mechanisms and carefully controlled travel distances.
In some cases, manufacturers fine-tune the force required to operate the switch, balancing ease of use with the need to prevent accidental activations. A key factor in this balance is ensuring that the switch’s travel distance and actuation force are optimized for both compactness and usability.
Example: A smartwatch manufacturer implemented a micro slide switch with a travel distance of just 0.3 mm and an actuation force of 1.5 N. The result was a satisfying tactile "click" that users could feel, despite the compact size of the device, enhancing the overall user experience in such a small form factor.
2.2 Maintaining High Performance in Limited Space
While miniaturization focuses on reducing physical dimensions, performance must not be compromised. High-performance micro slide switches are designed to handle the same current and voltage loads as their larger counterparts, while fitting into smaller spaces. This is particularly important for functions such as power control or volume adjustment in mobile devices, where reliability is critical.
Design enhancements, such as integrating multiple contact points or optimizing the switch's electrical layout, help ensure that micro slide switches perform reliably under varying conditions, even in compact devices. Additionally, designers must consider heat dissipation and electromagnetic interference, which can affect the switch's performance in such small devices.
3. Meeting the Needs of Portable Devices: Examples from the Field
Micro slide switches are essential in various portable devices, from smartphones and tablets to wearables and wireless earbuds. The following examples highlight how miniaturization, tactile feedback, and performance balance are achieved in real-world applications.
3.1 Smartphone Power and Volume Controls
In modern smartphones, the micro slide switch is typically used for power and volume controls. These switches must be thin enough to fit into the sleek, ultra-thin bodies of today’s smartphones, yet durable enough to handle repeated usage. Manufacturers use advanced micro switch technology, combining lightweight materials with precision engineering, to create switches that are both responsive and reliable.
For example, a major smartphone manufacturer developed a custom ultra-thin micro slide switch for its latest model’s volume rocker. This switch, only 1.2 mm thick, provides consistent tactile feedback and is rated for over 100,000 cycles, ensuring long-term durability.
3.2 Wearable Devices: Smartwatches and Fitness Trackers
Wearable devices present even more stringent requirements for miniaturization due to their small form factors and high user interaction. Micro slide switches used in wearables must be incredibly small yet offer precise control, especially in applications such as adjusting settings or navigating user interfaces.
One fitness tracker brand integrated micro slide switches with enhanced tactile feedback to allow users to adjust the brightness and access fitness modes easily. Despite the small size of the device, the switches were designed with a precise click response, ensuring user satisfaction without sacrificing durability.
3.3 Wireless Earbuds: Control and Connectivity
In wireless earbuds, space constraints are at their maximum. Micro slide switches are used to control functions such as pairing, play/pause, and power on/off. These switches must be ultra-compact, typically less than 1 mm in thickness, but still offer a reliable and tactile user experience.
Example: A leading audio equipment brand implemented micro slide switches for Bluetooth pairing and power control in its wireless earbuds. The switch was carefully designed to fit within the compact earbud housing while offering a crisp click for users to quickly activate pairing or adjust playback settings without needing to look at the device.
Conclusion
The application of micro slide switches in portable devices is critical to achieving the thin, lightweight designs that consumers expect from modern electronics. By focusing on miniaturization, materials, and precise engineering, manufacturers can develop micro slide switches that meet the demands of mobile devices without compromising on performance or tactile feedback.
As this article demonstrates, reducing the thickness of micro slide switches while balancing tactile feel and operational reliability is key to success in smartphones, tablets, wearables, and other portable devices. Through continued innovation in materials and design, micro slide switches will remain a fundamental component in the evolution of thinner, smarter, and more user-friendly portable electronics.
