hi everyone. this is my first time posting something on reddit because i don't know where else to go to. i feel sick, i'm terrified, i've been puking and crying, and i just feel so disgusting about myself. i'm ashamed and embarrassed to tell my IRL friends, and i don't want my parents to ever know about this. i don't even know if this is the correct subreddit to go to, but please hear me out.

i don't know what to do with this information and i'm going to lose it everytime i think about it.

so about three days ago, i had to use my boyfriend's laptop to do my assignment because mine broke. my cat nibbled at the corner of the screen and yeah. it just broke. the lcd cannot be used, and i wasn't in a rush to have it repaired because of the cost but i did (now), after this... thing.

my boyfriend ([age]M) was in the bathroom so i'm 110% sure he didn't hear me letting him know that i'm going to use his laptop and i didn't think it would be such a big deal since we've been a couple for 2 years now. my intention was purely just to open some websites to check for citations for my paper and not to snoop around as i trusted him completely.

but as soon as i opened the browser, multiple tabs were already opened, he didn't close it - it's just like, youtube, a website to watch movies illegally, football scores from a couple nights ago, and some kind of private forum community. i wouldn't have thought much of it since my boyfriend is those guys who does IT and computer science, and just knows a whole lot of stuffs about devices(??). he's the one who helped repair and update my phone. so i didn't find it weird for him to have a forum tab opened since he engaged in online discussions a lot.

the title tag of the forum was something like, "my girl at the most fuckable state and..." it got cut off because the caption/title was too long. i'm the type of girlfriend who doesn't mind if my boyfriend watches porn (not camgirls though...), as long as it doesn't impact our sex life or relationship, and he only watches it with me (TMI). but for some reason this time, it immediately made my heart and stomach drop. it felt REALLY off, and my instincts and guts were both telling me to check, and leave it alone.

i shouldn't have clicked it, oh my god. i wish i didn't. not because i love him and i'd rather not know what he does behind my back, but because i love myself and this. this changed EVERYTHING.

the forum is not like reddit, or 4chan. it's basically a private forum or a space for men to post and talk about their girlfriends in the most degrading ways. i saw some appreciations posts but nonetheless (in THAT type of website?). i saw guys sharing private, intimate pictures (obviously taken without consent, because some of the girls were sleeping, in the bathroom taken from the gap between the door, or simply just watching the television), humiliating stories about how awful the girlfriends are in bed... and just,, the most disgusting, objectifying comments i've ever read.

some guys post their girlfriends picture and asked if anyone wants to share. some asked other users/guys to rate, degrade, or just comment on the girlfriends appearance. some guys even doxxed their girlfriend's working address and captioned, "do what you want with the information".

i feel so fucking sick. as i'm writing this, i can't count how many times i've paused to take a breather and just pace around in my living room.

the thought of my boyfriend even being in that forum already twisted my insides, but then i saw his username, and me.

i clicked on his profile and saw that he had around 9 posts, but his activities/notifications were quite a lot. his account was created a few months after we got together and his username was literally my nickname and the year i was born, and his profile picture was my cat. the same cat that broke my laptop.

my face wasn't visible in the pictures he posted, it was covered with some stupid fucking emoji (just my face). but i knew they were me. i knew those pictures because they were all ones taken by him. i knew they were me because i recognised the couch, the bedsheet, the clothes, and all. it's just obvious.

they were pictures when we're being playful and intimate. some were just me in my pyjamas, or lounging around in his hoodie, and others were me napping or sleeping. i didn't even know he had those pictures.

but the captions. god.. the captions.

i can't even. i don't even want to repeat or write it down. it's so so fucking disgusting and humiliating, and i would NEVER ever thought they were written by him. he took those pictures, covered my face, opened the forum, captioned, reread, and posted. he had a lot of time to rethink about what he was doing, but he didn't.

stuffs like, "she acts all innocent but you guys have no idea how easy it is to put her in her place." "god i feel like fucking her in front of her ex-boyfriend sometimes. to think of how he got her first before me pisses the fuck out of me man. he's crazy for not tying her up when he had her tho." i can't believe this is how he views me.

another horrible thing was he didn't just posts about me, but he shits on my family members and friends too. he claimed that my friends are just shitty people in my life that needs to get a partner of their own so they can get the fuck out of my life. he also admitted into bullying the people i am no longer friends with.

but the comments were worse, or they both were, i don't fucking know anymore. just the most toxic, red-flag, misogynistic nonsense. they were saying how lucky my boyfriend is, and how instead of making the same mistake as my ex-boyfriend did, he (my boyfriend) should keep me leashed to the bed with a collar. that was the only comment my boyfriend replied to. he agreed, and added that he can't have other guys looking at me.

some wanted to share and pass me around. these are guys with wives and girlfriends, and daughters, and mothers, and sisters by the way. the comments and posts were from guys who probably seemed normal to you. these guys could be your colleagues, neighbours, classmates, professors, or even your dad.

he doesn't comment, interact, or engage on other people's posts. it was as if he only made the account to post about me. with how he covered my face, it seemed like he just wants to let out his sickening, disgusting thoughts unlike some of the guys in the forum. but that didn't make it any better.

i immediately closed his laptop after going through the forum and went out of the room before he stopped showering. i think he knows something's wrong with me because i haven't been talking to him much, or reacting, or responding to him. it's been three days, and i told him i'm sleeping over my friends' house. i don't know how long i can avoid or keep up with the lie. i'm shaking so much.

i don't know how to process this. he has always been so sweet and respectful to my face. on the surface, he's your parents' dream son-in-law. not once have i felt unsafe around him, until now, that is. he doesn't even seem like the type to do these kinds of things but i'm not sure now. the way he talks about me when i'm not around. like i'm some kind of trophy or an object for him to. yea. sexualise online. for strangers to see.

i feel disgusting, violated, harrassed, assaulted, objectified... everything. i don't know how, or even if i SHOULD confront him. what can he say to justify this? that it's a joke? what if he fucking kills me because i wasn't supposed to see it? should i report this to the police? he lets a bunch of strangers talk about me like that. he doesn't fucking love me.

i don't know what to do. i don't know what to do. i feel so fucking sick and scared oh my god. i don't know what else he could be doing behind my back. i'm so scared.

(Vi & Jinx)

Jinx and Vi are still teenagers, their age gap would be like 3 years in this AU, so when it's Jinx's freshman year Vi's already a Senior.

People were genuinely surprised finding out the little chaotic science geek and the sports-minded athlete were SISTERS since they were so different friend group and personality wise.

(Cait & Vi)

Vi is a jock! She does winter wrestling and she's the best in her weight group. She's also involved in fall and spring sports. Baseball and football are her other seasonal sports.

People know Vi to be just a sports junkie, she has pretty good grades but nothing exceptional.

She's not so great at science , which forces her to be tutored.

Vi and Cait met in their sophomore year, she needed some help improving her grade in order to be eligible for the spring season sports since she was failing history at the time, so Caits assigned to help her out.

Caitlyn’s a goody two shoes icl, like she’s apart of the student council and her mom’s the superintendent. She’s in ROTC and she’s so very loud about it, she’s basically the FACE of the program.

Cait and Vi get close because Vi keeps seeing Caitlyn around and she’s become sort of a hallway crush, but with her fuckboy attitude Vi tries to flirt the second she realizes that she’s somehow managed to get Caitlyn as her tutor!

Cait is used to people flirting with her, she usually brushes it off since she’s a man magnet. Vi on the other hand, is weirdly making her flustered? It’s strange, really.

Cait and Vi start getting closer and eventually start dating the year after.

(Ekko & Jinx)

Ekko and Jinx are the same age but Ekko's older by a few months so he brags about it.

Ekko D&D nerd. He dragged Jinx into it, she only complied since Ekko asked so nicely (he threatened her kindly)

Jinx isn’t into extracurriculars, did track in middle school so she’s exceptionally fast and she’s in the track and field team in high school but she skips practice A LOT but the coach lowkey needs her so she doesn’t get punished.

Jinx has straight A’s but she skips classes and has days where she just can’t attend class so she does some of her work online (it’s like 70/30) in person-online; she has accommodations in her 504 plan that lets her listen to music all the time and lets her leave class whenever.

Jinx is just a nickname that was given to her while she was a kid since every sports team she cheered for ended up losing (she only ever went since she wanted to see what Vi was up to) and she was Jinxing every game which DID hurt her feelings when she was like 6 but now it’s kind of funny since she doesn’t care for sports.

She’s slightly uncomfortable letting random people call her Powder now since she introduces herself as Jinx, only her closer friends call her Powder.

She no longer Jinxes games now though but it was funny while it lasted.

Ekko and Jinx have this weird rivalry-friendship-situationship where they ARE childhood best friends who back each other up but they refuse to pair up together when working on projects since they wanna see who can get better grades or impress more people.

Ekko and Jinx is like “the boy/girl next door” trope since they’ve been casually hanging just whenever since they were little itty bitty kids. So people kind of know Jinx as “that girl friend he’s always around” and Ekko as “that boy friend Jinx is always around” to their respective classmates and acquaintances.

Ekko and Jinx used to get the “wait you guys aren’t dating” comment at least once a month. (They’re not dating just yet)

Ekko is in the art club and has never considered doing a sport (Ice hockey has intrigued him more and more every year though) and he’s in a bunch of clubs to compensate. He established the D&D club, being in a little “green thumb” club for plant parents, afterschool computer-science club which is run by Viktor and Jayce. He’s got a pretty decent variety of friends because of it and larger social circle. He’s known to be this friendly little nerdy guy and people either love him or think he’s weird.

When Ekko doesn’t have extracurriculars to focus on he’s out practicing new skate tricks,

Ekko is the plant dad of the CENTURY, he has like 20 plants in his room, he’s nurturing a garden in his backyard and he has the prettiest bushels of flowers in the house. He’s got the greenest of thumbs.

Jinx has a black thumb and kills every plant in a 20 mile radius. No but seriously, when Ekko tried giving Jinx a plant to take care of as an attempt to bond, it DIED within a week. (She drowned it) and when he gave her an easier plant to take care of, she fed the thing rubbing alcohol and didn’t notice until it was DEAD.

Ekko asks Jinx to Hoco, that’s when they started dating. Everyone calls it like “oh my god finally” “you weren’t dating before?” Etc. it’s really cute but there’s minimal changes!! They just start like, kissing or something.

Oh and don't expect the jobs to make a whole lot of sense. A lot of them are based off my headcannons for the characters and general vibes 💅

Jesse: pet caretaker. Has a little shop that sells items needed to raise an animal companion, and also a... Playhouse? I'm not sure what you call those places. Maybe like a puppy school thing?

Olivia: works in a family farm(this is really random. It came from her saying "Holy cow". Like.. that's the only reason other than, I feel like she could've grown up in a farm). But she wants to get out and do her own thing as much as she likes helping out there. She helped install internet in the town she lives in(so she could have better access through computer. She wants to learn computer science. Maybe make games?)

Axel: had to think a lot about this. I thought it could work to make him work with Olivia at her family farm.. but then I figured a comedian would fit him pretty nicely. So he's a comedian, but not that famous yet. So he helps out Olivia often with the farm. It also gives Olivia more time to try learn computer.

Petra: she makes jewelry. She can work with metal, gems in many different ways. She also desgins them herself.

Lukas: yeah he could be a writer... but- no. That's too boring. So I gave him a job as an actor. But, he still has a.. side job? Related to his writing. I mean.. he can still write books. Right? And not only that, he also owns a small book store along with a café. You know, one of those places you can relax while reading a book with a cup of coffee.

Gabriel: honestly wasn't sure what to give him. He and Ellegaard was the hardest to choose a job out of the order. But I think he could be a stuntman or choreographer. ...maybe even a body builder- 👀 (why is it all related to physical work..? Lol he just gives up that image to me ig)

Ellegaard: journalist. Just kinda came to me while finding a job to give her. I think she'd do nicely at it.

Soren: songwriter. He has potential, okay??

Ivor: I talked about this somewhere, designer. He designs and makes clothes. The idea came from him making armor for the order.

Magnus: show host. Game show, talk show, he could do it. I can imagine it pretty well in my head

Aiden: writer. I dunno man.. let him be it. I was gonna go for plumber so... i mean okay, no hate on him. Just- he's being especially annoying today 🤷‍♀️ sorry bro.

Maya: has a online shop where she sells items for cosplaying. Handmade. I feel like Maya would be a cosplayer...

Gill: owns a reptile shop. He's either incredibly scared of reptiles, or loves them dearly. For this AU, he loves them dearly.

Isa: honestly thought of just giving her mayor? But I think, makeup artist. Why? Cause her eyeshadow is JUST SO FLIPPIN BEAUTIFUL

Reginald: cop. Yeah- it fits him too well... but i can also see him reading bedtime stories for children! ...maybe he records audio books? For children books? Maybe?

Milo: photographer. I'll be honest, it's his looks. It's because of his looks.

A couple of weeks ago I read a an online essay by Thomas R. Wells ‘Indigenous Knowledge’ Is Inferior To Science that I didn't like.

Wells is an academic philosopher, professor and blogger. Given his academic background his essay seemed disingenuous and trollish:

"The idea that ‘indigenous’ knowledge counts as knowledge in a sense comparable to real i.e. scientific knowledge is absurd but widely held. It appears to be a pernicious product of the combination of the patronizing politics of pity and anti-Westernism that characterizes the modern political left. . ."

Online I've taken the admonishing, "Do not feed the trolls" to heart, so I was surprised that the essay got under my skin enough to prompt reading and inquiry. Two areas of disagreement were, first, that it seems too exclusive to designate scientific knowledge as "real" knowledge. Second, the notion of indigenous knowledge as something that happened only in the past rather than as ongoing knowledge being produced reduces "indigenous knowledge" to a straw man.

I've enjoyed my explorations prompted by Well's essay very much, I'm no philosopher. So I"ll just point to some a few links. Well's depiction of science owes much to Michael Srevens's book The Knowledge Machine: How Irrationality Created Modern Science. There are lots of links on that page to find out more. I am a big fan of Turtle Talk, "the leading blog on legal issues in Indian Country." The blog documents an important site of indigenous knowledge production.

I was a really bad student through most of my schooling. My first attempts at a college education were failures. But it is surprising, and quite gratifying, how important those years at The University of Pittsburgh have been to me over the years. I was introduced to so much knowlege and to way of thinking.

Quite by chance one of the essays that came up in reading promoted by Well's essay was Hegel today by Willem deVries at Aeon. I took a course on Existentialism from him and recall withering critiques of my papers. My memory after fifty years isn't clear, I remember Nietzsche and Kierkegaard, but I'm sure there was more to the course. I probably didn't do the assigned reading. Anyhow, his Aeon essay helped me to understand some of the philosophy being worked out at Pitt which hadmuch to do with the limits to emperical observation and the importance of rationality to science.

Reading deVries's essay I read Gotthard Günther's tribute to Warren McCullough, Number and Logos: Unforgettable Hours with Warren St. McCulloch. Explorations of artificial intelligence in the early years are still relevant. Günther worked in the Biological Computer Laboratory at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign for many years.

I am deeply saddened by the assaults on knowledge by rising fascism in the USA. If Thomas Wells seems disingenuous to me in his essay on the inferiority of indigenous knowledge, I feel sure he's sincere in his advocacy of science. His essay in most unhelpful in that regard.

ok i'm majoring in computer science right? and i fear i'm gonna get whiplash over how differently people treat AI at my university and online. i feel like a lot of people here hate AI without even really knowing what it is, how it works, etc. there are a lot of unethical areas in AI but at my uni everyone uses it for their schoolwork and it's helped me solve assignments and problems in programming that i definitely couldn't have done on my own. AI has a lot of different areas and not all of them are inherently bad. you should oppose stealing people's work, but i think the way some of y'all view AI is really reductive. i'm not saying you should like it or use it, i'm saying if you're gonna speak up about it you should do a decent amount of research about it first because i've seen a lot of misinfo
