Top Ten Tuesday: Quotes from the last ten books I have read
Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together. Every Tuesday, a new topic is assigned from the schedule below. Then, you take that topic and fly free with it. You can do as little or as much as you want to (I have…

Hi, love your blog, no pressure do you have any sex sociology etc related books or movies you recommended? Sorry if silly question!
not a silly question at all!! i love to read about this stuff & am always happy to talk about it :) i am however not very experienced with film so other than Bound being on my to-watch list since forever i don’t have any recommendations in that area
all of these recs are definitely at different points along a spectrum of how much i ascribe to or agree with; i avoid language of “safe, sane, & consensual,” for example, because i disagree with the requirement for safety and the positioning of sanity as synonymous with not doing harm. a lot of kink writing falls into the habit of trying to justify itself to normative society through language of health, which i find both useless & offensive lol. as far as content notes it’s also worth mentioning that many if not all of these works discuss stigma & trauma, including hate crimes, rape, and incest.
i have a prior list on my disability blog with recs about sex & disability, i highly recommend checking out my favorites from there! Emma Sheppard’s work in particular was life-changing for me. many of these were accumulated through her sources as well as from @gatheringbones ‘s excerpts
in no particular order:
sociology

Safe, Sane and Consensual: Contemporary Perspectives on Sadomasochism, edited Darren Langdridge & Meg Barker

Constance
Someone you look up to
Your ambitions
Thank you for the tea!!
(I was considering going as extra as you and Moss, but I need to save some creative juice for my fic later. :D)
Books you've read recently...
I'm actually in a kind of slump as regards reading, so I haven't finished anything in a few months. But the most recent one I finished was How to Talk to a Goddess and Other Lessons in Real Magic, by Emily Croy Barker. It's the second book in a series about a bored academic who stumbles into another world and ends up as the student of a reclusive magician. I really like this series; it's given me lots of inspiration for The Mysteries of Magic, especially the Morfean magic system! And unsurprisingly the magician gives off Hubert-vibes lol. (I should also say that it contains a bit of romance.)
Currently reading The Trial by Franz Kafka (because I got it cheap during a book sale) and Dolda Gudar by Nils Håkanson ("Hidden gods", about what can be lost and gained in translation).
Constance...
Oh, yes!! Her! She's really rather lovely isn't she... I wonder when that cosplay set I ordered will ship...
Constance...
Yes. Yes. Yes. *nods* I'm glad we agree.
Constance...
Constance, Constance, always and constantly.
There's an old rhyme about a Swedish province that goes, "Jamtland, Jamtland, jamt å ständut", which roughly translates to "Jamtland, Jamtland, always and constantly" which seemed very fitting here💕 (Maybe it should be my new Constance tag 🤔)
Someone you look up to...
My mother! She's gone through a lot of really difficult things in her life but she always manages to pull herself up and move on, choosing to focus on the things that bring her joy in life rather than get stuck on the things that hold her back.
Your ambitions...
To unravel the mysteries of ma--
Ahem. I mean: To live a life as full of joy as I can, learn new things and grow, meet and get to know interesting people, and have a fulfilling career.
(And unravel the mysteries of magic.)
No but, on a more serious note, one of the ways in which I can relate to Constance is that it's very important for me to achieve my goals and prove myself to the world - not always a particularly healthy trait, mind you, but it's true nonetheless. I want to make an impact on the world before I leave it, and hopefully, leave some kind of intellectual or creative legacy behind that can live on even after I'm gone. Slowly working on that.

Custom Slew Ring Bearing Fit for Your Demands
Tumblr media
In the world of heavy-duty machinery, precision and reliability are paramount. Slew ring bearings, also known as turntable bearings or Slew ring Bearings, play a crucial role in ensuring smooth and controlled rotation in various industrial applications. Slew ring Bearing actions, or turntable addresses, are ball or comber- style behaviors composed of double-barreled concentric rings, either of which may include a gear. This feather of bearing enhances draft support and power transmission in all directions, and they’re commonly employed to support heavy loads for slow processes and large accoutrements   alike as earth excavators and construction cranes. The exclusive power and elasticity of Slew ring bearing comportments have made them progressively valued in a wide collection of businesses, counting construction, manufacturing, robotics, machine tooling, and medical uses.
Slew Ring Bearing Usages:
Slew ring Bearing actions are again and again trusted upon to support loads in actually large, heavy- duty accoutrements. Their exceptional combination of weighty burden support and mobility improvement makes them useful in a variety of diligence and operations, including
Heavy- Duty Machinery. Slew ring Bearing conducts are current in heavy- duty outfit like cranes, excavators, and additional ministry that bear considerable cargo- bearing capacities and smooth pirouette. They offer the necessary strength and constancy to grip the extreme pressures and forces encountered throughout swinging, rotating, and lifting operations.
Wind Turbines. Wind turbines count on rotating nacelles to efficiently capture wind energy. Slew ring Bearing conducts support the nacelle and allow for smooth gyration, indeed under harsh thundershower conditions.
Mining Equipment. Slew ring Bearing behaviors are used in colored types of mining accoutrements, including conveyors, shovels, excavators, and mound declaimers.
Aerospace. Slewing comportments support movements in critical aerospace outfit, including satellite antennas, space delving ministry, and aircraft dock gear.
Crawlway- Borers. Slewing bearings are the main guard comportments in lair- borers and serve as the connective part of the knife head to insure that it rotates.
Water Treatment complexes. Slew ring Bearing conducts are normally used in wastewater treatment systems, suchlike as circuitous scraper purifiers.
Robotics Equipment. Robotic joints and arms depend on slewing actions to ease precise movement and positioning.
Medical Diagnostic Equipment. Slewing speeches are used in CT scanners and other advanced medical imaging accoutrements.
Other Applications of Slew Ring Bearing Actions Include
Pay- Off Reels
High- Speed Capstans
Large, Precision, and Index Turntables
Purities, Thickeners, and Rotary Distributors
float Buoys
Bottling Equipment

Reading This Week 2023 #5
Welcome to the second week of my school reading heavy life and the weirdness of formatting this when i have to read things for class in chunks instead of all at once
Started and Finished:
fe3h fic (all on ao3)-
The Short Side of Eternity by wanderlustt Vexing by DistractedSiren What Never Was by HTFNoelle Smiles That Reach the Eyes by Recipe The Moon Behind Clouds by printers_devil yours is my spring by northofkites Let Your Heart Hold Fast by wearwind Tanaras by wearwind Agabhainn by wearwind Architects of Heaven, chapters 1-8 (all currently published) by wearwind things we cannot recall losing, chapters 1-3 (all currently published) by wearwind The Signet of His Lords by queenlua Deer Among Cattle by queenlua
can you tell i had a long trip back to my dorm this past sunday? the majority of these are fics on the shorter side that i read on the plane and train ride, and then the last two i read early on in the week. really enjoyed Deer Among Cattle since I just met Judith in my playthrough
Batman/Superman: World's Finest #11 written by Mark Waid, illustrated by Dan Mora
this was my sunday morning read before i left home, and i am just so enjoying this comic even though i have not read the superman stories that it is apparently referencing and building on (according to my dad, who very happily explained what the Reveal was)
"Base and Superstructure in Marxist Cultural Theory" by Raymond Williams
school reading! this will reappear in the coming weeks as the class instructed me to read through it all together once, and then read it again in chunks taking note of specific parts. this was for my 19th c. pop culture class
"Women, marriage and the family" by Tanya Evans, from British Women 1700-1850 edited by Hannah Barker and Elaine Chalus
always enjoy some evidence based social history, this is for my Jane Austen class
Ongoing:
Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen
the reread for class continues! i fucking love the first proposal scene and i read portions of it outloud to my boyfriend
The Cambridge Companion to Jane Austen edited by Edward Copeland and Juliet McMaster
read a section of this about what Economic and Social Class of people are represented in Jane Austen's works which was very enlightening
War and Peace by Leo Tolstoy, translated by Constance Garnett, narrated by Frederick Davidson
audiobook my beloved, i love reaching parts and quotes that ended up in The Great Comet bc i just become a pointing meme every time
Sam Patch, the famous Jumper by Paul E. Johnson
this dude is fucking legendary and also reading about him makes me sad because he does not seem to be having a good time
Started and Ongoing:
The Gentleman's Daughter by Amanda Vickery
more for my Jane Austen class, this one is about like landowning but untitled women in Austen's day and Wow the chapter on pregnancy and childbirth and motherhood was heartwrenching
Oathbreaker by quandry on ao3
another fe3h fic, this one is multichapter and i'm getting through it slower. unsure if i'll continue it or just abandon it to pursue other reading, but i think it's an interesting trait on a character changing sides/getting recruited post-timeskip
Beastars, Vol. 4 by Paru Itagaki, translated by Tomoko Kimura
i started reading the first chapter yesterday and then remember that there's another book that I want to be reading during my free time because I know my dad is waiting to talk about it with me so then i felt guilty and. stopped reading this? i will power through it once i have read at least one chapter of that other book

Werewolf By Night
Werewolf By Night, the new movie from Michael Giacchino, is out today.
On a dark and somber night, a secret cabal of monster hunters emerge from the shadows and gather at the foreboding Bloodstone Temple following the death of their leader. Triangle Of Sadness
Triangle Of Sadness, the new movie from Ruben Östlund, is out today.
In Ruben Östlund’s wickedly funny Palme d’Or winner, social hierarchy is turned upside down, revealing the tawdry relationship between power and beauty. Celebrity model couple, Carl (Harris Dickinson) and Yaya (Charlbi Dean), are invited on a luxury cruise for the uber-rich, helmed by an unhinged boat captain (Woody Harrelson). What first appeared instagrammable ends catastrophically, leaving the survivors stranded on a desert island and fighting for survival.
Amsterdam
Amsterdam, the new movie from David O. Russell, is out today.
Set in the '30s, Amsterdam follows three friends who witness a murder, become suspects themselves, and uncover one of the most outrageous plots in American history.
TÁR
TÁR, the new movie from Todd Field, is out today.
From writer/director Todd Field, starring Cate Blanchett, TÁR, set in the international world of classical music, centers on Lydia Tár, widely considered one of the greatest living composer/conductors and first-ever female chief conductor of a major German orchestra.
The Visitor
The Visitor, the new movie from Justin P. Lange, is out today.
When Robert and his wife Maia move to her childhood home, he discovers an old portrait of his likeness in the attic - a man referred to only as ‘The Visitor’. Soon he finds himself descending down a frightening rabbit hole in an attempt to discover the true identity of his mysterious doppelgänger, only to realize that every family has its own terrifying secrets.
Luckiest Girl Alive
Luckiest Girl Alive, the new movie from Mike Barker, is out today.
Based on the best-selling novel, Ani FaNelli (Mila Kunis), a sharp-tongued New Yorker appears to have it all: a sought-after position at a glossy magazine, a killer wardrobe and a dream Nantucket wedding on the horizon. But when the director of a crime documentary invites her to tell her side of the shocking incident that took place when she was a teenager at the prestigious Brentley School, Ani is forced to confront a dark truth that threatens to unravel her meticulously crafted life.
Hellraiser
Hellraiser, the new movie from David Bruckner, is out today.
In “Hellraiser,” a young woman struggling with addiction comes into possession of an ancient puzzle box, unaware that its purpose is to summon the Cenobites, a group of sadistic supernatural beings from another dimension.
The Inhabitant
The Inhabitant, the new movie from Jerren Lauder, is out today.
High school can be a nightmare for any teenager. But Tara (Odessa A’zion) lives in the shadow of a harrowing family curse — she’s a descendant of ax-murderess Lizzie Borden. As Tara begins to hear voices and have paranoid visions of butchering her family, people in her small town are attacked and killed — and all evidence points to her. Gripped by her family’s past, Tara must confront the demons that possess her — both real and imaginary — and a shocking truth in this chilling psychological horror ride featuring Leslie Bibb, Dermot Mulroney, and Lizzie Broadway.
Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile
Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile, the new movie from Josh Gordon and Will Speck, is out today.
When the Primm family (Constance Wu, Scoot McNairy, Winslow Fegley) moves to New York City, their young son Josh struggles to adapt to his new school and new friends. All of that changes when he discovers Lyle - a singing crocodile (Shawn Mendes) who loves baths, caviar and great music-living in the attic of his new home. The two become fast friends, but when Lyle’s existence is threatened by evil neighbor Mr. Grumps (Brett Gelman), the Primm’s must band together with Lyle’s charismatic owner, Hector P. Valenti (Javier Bardem), to show the world that family can come from the most unexpected places and there’s nothing wrong with a big singing crocodile with an even bigger personality.
The Midnight Club
The Midnight Club, the new TV series from Mike Flanagan and Leah Fong, is out today.
At a hospice for terminally ill young adults, eight patients come together every night at midnight to tell each other stories – and make a pact that the next of them to die will give the group a sign from the beyond.
Let The Right One In
Let The Right One In, the new TV series from Andrew Hinderaker, is out today.
Inspired by the original hit Swedish novel and film, LET THE RIGHT ONE IN centers on Mark (Bichir) and his daughter Eleanor (Baez) whose lives were changed forever 10 years earlier when she was turned into a vampire. Locked in at age 12, perhaps forever, Eleanor lives a closed-in life, able to go out only at night, while her father does his best to provide her with the human blood she needs to stay alive.

Hellraiser - Pinhead is back in this new installment of Clive Barker’s horror franchise. Look out for Hellraiser on Hulu.
October 14th

The Devil’s Light Prey for Devil - Movies change titles throughout productions all the time. What is interesting about Prey for the Devil is that it released a trailer as The Devil’s Light before changing its name. Regardless, it comes out this month and it is a horror movie about exorcism.
Now for a quick look ahead to November, my top picks for next month are Black Panther: Wakanda Forever and The Fabelmans.

Payback’s a Witch by Constance Barker My rating: 4 of 5 stars
I read this and the second book out of order as I wasn’t sure which was which. I wish that the Kindle people would put a large number on the little image of books so that it wouldn’t happen the way it did for me.
That said, I wasn’t as far off in what I believed happened in the second book and first book. I was prepared to read number…
