I was gong through my shelves yesterday and re-discovered this title. It’s part romance, part mystery and part family drama. I remember it deals with heavier issues, so it will be a nice pallet cleanser from fluffy romances for my contemporary fix. Plus the cover art is gorgeous! Has anyone read this? What did you think?

JoJo’s Bizarre Posters: Part 1 and 2! Okay so yes, I will be committing my time making Part 1-6 posters for this weird but wonderful anime. Showing off Part 1 and 2: Phantom Blood. Where the Hamon users were on a quest to defeat the likes of Dio Brando, and the Pillar Men! Personally, I adore these parts, despite how short they are. Jonathan’s gentlemen, yet fighter appearance is such a great touch, then with Joseph being creative with his ideas during battles and his prediction skills always gave me a chuckle XD. One of my favorite JoJos has to bee Joseph! Anyways, do enjoy these posters! I’ll be posting Part 3 and 4 once I finish them both! Only halfway done the characters in Part 3 ;0

Smiffina Episodes: Witness Part 5 - Protection (5/8)

Sun Hill are out to arrest Tito Morientes and Dwayne Fox for Carly's murder. Jack leads the team to arrest Dwayne and search his home whilst Sam leads the team doing the same to Tito. Jack reminds everyone there's a chance they might be armed so to let CO19 go in first. They're doing it at the same time to take them by surprise. (Maybe shouting instructions in the carpark of the building that you're about to raid isn't the best way to 'take people by surprise'? and then John loudly telling Jack that Alesha's agreed to give a statement a meter and half from Dwayne's mum? Seriously?) Unfortunately Dwayne isn't at the Fox's house. Tito is home and Smithy cuffs him. The man mistaken for Dwayne is a lodger. He and Mrs Fox agree to attend the station for questioning. Dwayne's wallet is in the house so it doesn't appear that he's gone far but it does seem as though he's on the run.

Alesha is in a soft interview room with Jo. They promise they'll protect her and won't add her name to a statement but given her evidence includes what she saw and heard in the flat, its obvious who it came from. She asks for her dad and Jo tells her he's on the way.

Grace wants to interview Dwayne as she's a new face to him whereas Tito already knows her and her interview style. Jack refuses and wants her in with Sam to interview Tito with her skills from SO10. Tito's solicitor says they won't be ready to interview until 11am at the earliest as he's entitled to 8 hours sleep, breakfast and then a consultation with her. Considering it's gone midnight it's almost the entire initial 12 hours allowed it's not good news. "You should have thought about that before you dragged him out of bed."

Jo reads Alesha's statement back once Oscar, her dad, arrives. She said the boys came back to change after 10pm and were holding guns. Tito was acting weird and Dwayne kept repeating "someone went down, someone went down." Dwayne was mad at Tito. Tito told Dwayne to get rid of the gun. Dwayne said no but Tito said he'd shoot him too if he didn't. She was crying and upset and Tito said she had to be his alibi if anyone asked and he kept shouting at her. She's assigned a plain closed police officer to take her home with her dad. As she leaves she hears Tito banging on the door and shouting to be released but Jo reassures her he can't hurt her now.

Jack updates Smithy on the nights happenings and tells him he didn't want to tell him before as he didn't want it to affect how he dealt with Leanne. Leanne knows something has happened because Smithy already had 3 messages on his mobile when he turned it on.

Forensics have confirmed Dwayne's shoes are the ones that made the footprint at the side of the canal and they're now checking Tito's mobile records. Tito is claiming he still only handled the gun when it was pointed at him during Carly's funeral as self defence. Neither Tito or Dwayne have previous with firearms and they fired from a moving car so they are still working to the theory that Carly was an accident and they were aiming for Marlon.

Dwayne's mother, Beverley, insists her son is innocent and didn't kill Carly as he was home with Brooke. She tells Max she was at home too. She insists he's a good boy and doesn't lie. Smithy is called to the front office where Leanne is waiting for him. He admits Dwayne hasn't been found yet. Max lets Beverley out of the front interview room and Leanne shouts across at her that Beverley's son took her daughter from her and that she won't get to see Brooke again.

Tito's solicitor appears to be stalling to waste the time they have left after Heaton gives permission to extend the initial holding time by 12 hours. Grace and Sam enter the interview room and do the basics and then ask if anything has changed in his statement. He says he stands by it. Sam asks the same questions that cover the information in the statement and Tito insists it's still all the same so why ask? She asks how well he knows Dwayne Fox. Tito shrugs and says he barely knows him. "And yet he knew you at the funeral? He wasn't pleased to see you" Sam replies. Tito says he was a few years above him at school and they barely know each other. He asks again why they're asking him and Sam explains they need his version to put to the court so they can disprove it. They already know he was with Dwayne the night of the murder. They say they've got a witness but they don't need to divulge everything at that stage. "I want to talk to my client."

Uniform are searching for Dwayne but there's no sign and no willing witnesses or helpers so far. Smithy hears Dwayne has tried to empty his bank account. Jack tells him to get all the CCTV. He's broke and scared and has nowhere left to run. Emma and Nate attend Dwayne's work and speak to the landlord. He hasn't spoken to him since the night before and he's off until Friday. He does say that Dwayne speaks about Carly as though she were still his girlfriend.

Tito returns to interview, he's not so cocky now but no comments all questions. This is at the advice of his solicitor because she hasn't seen the statement and the evidence that has been put forward so far does not prove Tito was there or that he had a gun in the first place. He shuts down and doesn't answer questions. Sam riles him slightly by bringing up the attack on him at the party being in front of his girlfriend and how humiliating that must be. "He might have dissed me then, but I made a fool out of him." "How, by shooting his girlfriend?" "... if you need a break, we can stop." His solicitor says, stopping that line of questions. Sam mocks him then for not being a real gangster who doesn't know how to use guns as he missed his target. It works everytime until his solicitor steps in.

The CPS say the physical evidence won't stand up in court, it'll be a he say/she say at this point if it ever gets that far. Currently they don't have enough to charge Tito with murder and have only 12 hours before they have to apply to the court for an extension.

Smithy receives a panicked call from Leanne to tell him Brooke has been taken from her nursery. Further checks say that Dwayne rang and spoke to the manager and told her he was tied up at work and a friend was going to collect Brooke. He then gave the friend the password to collect her. CCTV shows the man collecting Brooke to be Dwayne's manager, Mark. He says he helped because Dwayne told him the police were helping social services take Brooke away.

Max attends Beverley's house to talk to her about Dwayne. Although Dwayne is Brooke's dad, it's Leanne who is her guardian and who has custody. "He's my son!" "Carly was Leanne's daughter. Hasn't she suffered enough?" Max's reasoning works and Beverley confesses Dwayne wasn't home that night when she returned. He left Brooke home alone and told his mother he'd been to get Brooke some formula, but he wasn't carrying anything and there was plenty in the house. She can't tell him where they are now though.

Mark - Dwayne's boss - attends the station and tells Nate Dwayne has been in touch asking for a sub. He stalled him whilst he contacted them and Dwayne will call back in 15 minutes. Smithy suggests to meet at Mark's flat and Jo agrees. However, Dwayne suggests another place, the childrens area in Sherbourne Park. They agree to meet with Nate in the park Jo and Smithy in their cars observing. Mark gives the game away with a gesture to Nate. Dwayne realises and tries to run away, leaving Brooke behind but Smithy rugby tackles him (the editing isn't too great at this point and Alex clearly slips and falls and they cut out half way and have him leap again as shown below.) and cuffs him.

Brooke is returned to Leanne and Dwayne is brought in to the station.He wants to know who he has made the statement against him. He claims he has nothing to do with any gun, wouldn't shoot Carly as she's his daughters mother and that he ran because people he didn't know were chasing him. He insists he was at his mums with Brooke that night Carly died from 8.40pm until the morning. He tells them to ask his mum if they don't believe him. Grace tells him they did and she said he wasn't at home when she got back from work after 10pm. She helpfully adds 'you were at the shops?' and he nods but changes his mind when she asks which shop he went to. "Mum doesn't know I've started smoking... I nipped out for a cigarette.

Tito is tired and his solicitor keeps pushing for more breaks but they're keeping them to the legal minimum.Sam updates Tito that Dwayne has been arrested. They've also traced Tito having made a call to Dwayne that night. His solicitor insists that anyone could have made that call - perhaps Alesha did it.

Dwayne says he doesn't have Tito's number and the last time he saw or spoke to him was the funeral. Grace shows him a picture of the canal area that the gun was found and asks if he knows it. He says he doesn't. She shows him a picture of his shoes and asks if he recognises them. He admits they look like his trainers. Grace tells them they are his - and that they're limited edition. She goes on to confirm that the tread matches the footprint at the canal side where the 9mm gun was dumped. Dwayne looks at the picture again and suggests he could have gone there with Brooke to feed the ducks. As he's returned to the cells he can hear Tito kicking off.

Jo goes to Jack after having checked the whereabouts of Alesha's phone on the night of Carly's murder. She was lying when she said she was at Tito's. Her phone puts her at the scene. Sam and Jo arrest her for perverting the course of justice. Jo stresses she thought she understood the importance of telling the truth to get justice for Carly. Oscar loses his temper, telling her he brought her up to tell the truth. Sam tells her she has to tell them everything from the start.

Alesha now says she was walking home when a dark blue car with tinted windows pulled up alongside her. She couldn't see inside so kept walking until Tito called her name from the back seat. She got in beside him. Dwayne was there too and there was also a white youth approx 20 years old who was driving. Tito asked if she'd seen Carly and if she was still with Marlon by the skateboard park. She said yes and the car turned and drove back towards the park. She kept asking what they were doing and no one would answer her. Then Tito started telling Dwayne he was going to get Marlon. She asked to go home and they ignored her. Soon after they they started shooting out the windows and she was screaming and telling them to stop. She didn't want to see what was happening but she did see both Dwayne and Tito firing out the windows. She had no idea Carly had been hit.

Sun Hill need to protect Alesha and her dad at least until they find the unknown man. Also if they disclose a second statement to the defence they'll know that she lied the first time and lead the jury to not trust her evidence. Sam points out that they'll walk without Alesha's evidence as she is holding the entire case together so they have to go ahead, even with Jo pointing out that she will be torn apart by the defence counsel. Jack tells them to go over the statement again and make sure she clearly stresses why she withheld evidence the first time. They then ask her to look through pictures on the computer to see if she recognises the other boy. They explain that when she's done that they will be allowed to return home, but that there'll be a police officer with them at all times to keep them safe until they make an arrest.

Smithy is at Leanne's when he gets a call to update him about what has happened. Both Dwayne and Tito are being charged with Carly's murder. He then tells her that Alesha was in the car when Carly was shot. Leanne is shocked, not least because she spoke to her after and they cried together. She marches round to confront her with Smithy trying to stop her. However, Alesha approaches Leanne first and tells her how absolutely sorry she is and that she should have told her. Leanne's eyes fill with tears and she nods. Alesha squeezes her a very tiny smile and turns to head back to her dad and Nate as a car appears out of nowhere and knocks her down. Smithy runs after it to try stop it, pulling on the door as it slows to take a corner but it gets away (There's 4 adults and Alesha stood there, not one of them heard or saw it? It wasn't heard onscreen until it hit her and then you could hear normal engine noise as it sped away! They'd definitely have been able to hear it even if not see it approaching until it was too late 🤦🏻‍♀️)

1306 – France: Philip IV orders the arrest of two Knights Templar because they exchanged an obscene "kiss" that pretty much covered their entire bodies.

1769 – Alexander von Humboldt, German naturalist and explorer, born. (d.1859); The younger brother of the Prussian minister, Wilhelm von Humboldt (1767-1835), Alexander von Humboldt's work on botanical geography is considered foundational to the fields of biogeography, physical geography and meteorology. He is a prime example of a Renaissance man of the sciences, studying in astronomy, vulcanology, and geology. Thomas Jefferson called him, The most important scientist I ever met. 19th century Freethinker, Robert G. Ingersoll said, "He was to science what Shakespeare was to the drama."

In the 19th Century, Alexander von Humboldt was one of the most famous men in Europe and is remembered for not only his own scientific achievement, but for his nurturing and mentoring of young, up-and-coming scientists. The American painter Rembrandt Peale painted him, between 1808 and 1810, as one of the most prominent figures in Europe at the time.

Between 1799 and 1804, Humboldt traveled extensively in Latin America, exploring and describing it for the first time in a manner generally considered to be a modern scientific point of view. His description of the journey was written up and published in an enormous set of volumes over 21 years. He was one of the first to propose that the lands bordering the Atlantic Ocean were once joined (South America and Africa in particular). His five-volume work, Kosmos (1845), attempted to unify the various branches of scientific knowledge. In Voyage of the Beagle, where Darwin describes his own scientific exploration of the Americas, Darwin says "He was the greatest traveling scientist who ever lived. I have always admired him; now I worship him."

Much of Humboldt's private life remains a mystery because he destroyed his private letters. In 1908 the sexual researcher Paul Näcke, who worked with outspoken gay activist Magnus Hirschfeld, gathered reminiscences of him from people who recalled his participation in the homosexual subculture of Berlin. A travelling companion, the pious Francisco José de Caldas, accused him of frequenting houses where 'impure love reigned', of making friends with 'obscene dissolute youths', and giving vent to 'shameful passions of his heart'.

On the question of homosexuality, author Robert F. Aldrich concludes, "As for so many men of his age, a definite answer is impossible." But throughout his life Humboldt formed strong emotional attachments to men. In a letter to Reinhard von Haeften, a soldier, he wrote: "I know that I live only through you, my good precious Reinhard, and that I can only be happy in your presence."

1954 – Michael Patrick King is an openly gay, Emmy winning director, writer and producer for television shows. He started out doing stand-up and sketch comedy comedy but eventually moved into writing for television.

His most famous work has been for Sex and the City where he wrote all the season finales and premieres since the second season. King has also recently directed the show's film adaptation.

He has also written for another HBO show, Lisa Kudrow's post-Friends project The Comeback, and as well as for broadcast shows Will & Grace, Cybill, and Murphy Brown. He owns Arcade Productions.

1954 – David Wojnarowicz (d.1992) was a gay painter, photographer, writer, filmmaker, performance artist, and activist who was prominent in the New York City art world of the 1980s. The first American gay artist to respond to the AIDS crisis with anger and moral outrage, he used his art as a polemical tool with which to indict those he held responsible for the AIDS epidemic and to document his own suffering.

Wojnarowicz had no extensive formal training. Born in Red Bank, New Jersey into a severely dysfunctional family in 1954, he dropped out of high school soon after acknowledging his homosexuality as an adolescent. He was a street kid in New York City at the age of sixteen, turning tricks in Times Square and keeping company with hustlers and other outsiders.

Wojnarowicz found salvation in making art and writing. Yet the rawness of his life experiences would always be the stuff of a highly personal and confrontational art.

As a young man, Wojnarowicz hitchhiked across the United States and lived in San Francisco and Paris for several months. In 1978, he settled in New York. By the early 1980s he had become, like graffiti artists Jean-Michel Basquiat and Keith Haring, a vital fixture in the East Village art scene in lower Manhattan.

Wojnarowicz came to maturity as a contemporary artist and writer during a decade when the arts sought increasingly to address issues of gender, race, and ethnicity. A younger postmodern generation of artists gave expression to these concerns in non-traditional media and often worked in multimedia. For example, Wojnarowicz expressed himself in film, installation art, sculpture, photography, performance art, painting, collage, drawing, and writing. Indeed, he became as fine a writer as he was a visual artist.

Before being diagnosed HIV-positive in 1987, Wojnarowicz tracked in his confessional art a life that vacillated between sensual abandon and despair, bringing into focus a dark vision of existence that drew upon the examples of Arthur Rimbaud and Jean Genet.

With the onset of his disease, Wojnarowicz turned fiercely political. The tragedy and injustices of the AIDS epidemic within the gay community became the central subject in his art and writings. He took to task the medical community and the federal government for their indifference to the pressing health issues of gay men. He passionately protested the fact that, as he put it, so many people were dying 'slow and vicious and unnecessary deaths because fags and dykes and junkies are expendable in this country'.

Wojnarowicz was the first American gay artist to step forward in anger and give expression to his moral outrage. His 'post-diagnostic art', as he called it, indicted all those he held responsible for the social and private horrors of those dying from AIDS, including himself. Toward the end of his life, his defiant art was a polemical and poignant record of his cruel demise.

Wojnarowicz died of AIDS on July 22, 1992.

1957 – Steven Jay Russell is a U.S. con artist known for escaping from prison multiple times. A film about his life and crimes was produced in 2009, named I Love You Phillip Morris. In 2011, his crimes were featured on the TV show I Almost Got Away with It in the episode "Got a Boyfriend to Support.". He is known to be the only con artist in the world serving a life sentence (since he is sentenced to 140 years). A documentary about his crimes was aired on TV in 2005 On The Run episode "King of Cons" on Discovery Channel.

Russell's life of crime started in the early 1990s when he was fired from his job as an executive of a food service company after his employers found out he was gay. He was later arrested for fraud for faking a slip-and-fall accident, and was sentenced to six months in prison. After serving four weeks in jail, Russell escaped by using a spare set of civilian clothes and a walkie talkie to impersonate a guard. He later went to take care of his boyfriend Jimmy Cambell who was dying of AIDS; Cambell died three weeks after Russell was re-arrested and sent back to Harris County jail.

In prison Russell met Phillip Morris, whom he quickly fell in love with. The two were later released from prison, and wanting to give Morris a glamorous lifestyle, Russell managed to get a job as the chief financial officer of the North American Medical Management Company (NAMM). He then started embezzling funds, stealing $800,000 before the activity was detected and Russell and Morris were arrested.

Sent back to the Harris County jail, Russell, considered a flight risk, had his bail set at $950,000, but later made his next escape by calling the Harris County Records Office, pretending to be a judge, and lowering his bail from $950,000 to $45,000 before posting the reduced bail. He was arrested in a hotel room in West Palm Beach, Florida one week after his second escape.

Russell was sentenced to 40 years in prison for the NAMM fraud and was sent back to prison. Russell concocted a new escape after he began collecting green highlighter markers and a spare prison uniform and used his cell toilet to dye the uniform green to look like doctor's scrubs. He then walked out of the front door. After tracking down Morris, he convinced him to run with him and the two fled to Biloxi, Mississippi, making money in casinos, where Russell was later identified and arrested by a U.S Marshal. Morris was also quickly found and arrested.

He was sent back to a maximum security prison in Texas to serve an additional 45-year sentence. From here, Russell made his most inventive escape ever; he used acting and laxatives to fake the symptoms of AIDS, and a prison typewriter to fake his medical records to show him as HIV positive, being granted a special-needs parole to a nursing home to die. He then called the prison and parole board, posing as a doctor and AIDS specialist, asking for prisoners interested in an experimental treatment, and volunteered. Once out of Texas, he then sent death certificates to the prison and parole board stating he had died.

U.S. Marshals later tracked Russell down in Florida where they arrested him once more. Russell was then sentenced to a total of 140 years in prison (119 for the escapes and subsequent scams).

His release date from prison is July 12, 2140.

1978 – Heterosexual Ben Cohen, MBE is an activist and former England rugby union international player. He began his professional career with Northampton Saints in 1996; in 2007 he moved to France to represent Brive before returning to England two years later to join Sale Sharks. In May 2011, Cohen retired from professional rugby, and will focus on The Ben Cohen StandUp Foundation he created to combat homophobia and bullying.

In November 2000, Cohen's father Peter Cohen, brother of English World Cup winning football player George Cohen, was fatally injured while protecting an attack victim at the Eternity nightclub in Northampton which Peter Cohen managed. He died a month later from head injuries sustained in the assault. Three men were found guilty of violent conduct.

Cohen wass married to Abbie Cohen (Blayney), with twin children. The couple have been estranged since 2014, and divorced in March 2016. In January 2016 it was announced, his former Strictly Come Dancing dance partner and now girlfriend, Kristina Rihanoff, will be expecting their first child together.

He is clinically deaf, with about 30 to 33 percent hearing loss in each ear, and has been involved in efforts to make rugby more accessible to the hard of hearing, especially younger deaf players.

In 2011, Cohen founded The Ben Cohen StandUp Foundation, Inc., which is, according to its website, "the world's first foundation dedicated to raising awareness of the long-term, damaging effects of bullying, and funding those doing real-world work to stop it".

Off the field he is considered a gay icon, and often speaks favourably of his gay following. He ousted David Beckham as Gay Times' sports personality of the year in 2008, and came second as their sexiest man of the year. Among other Ben Cohen merchandise, he has released calendars since 2009 in which he is often shirtless. Ben appeared on the cover of Attitude's October 2009 issue.

In 2010, Cohen donated a signed jockstrap to support GMFA, a British charity addressing gay men's health issues, which was sold at auction at the Royal Vauxhall Tavern. He also featured on the front cover and in an interview section of GMFA's printed FS Magazine in November 2010.

2000 – Five police officers raid Pussy Palace, a women's bathhouse event in Toronto. No charges were laid against customers, although police recorded the names of ten women, and two organizers, Rachael Aitcheson and J.P. Hornick, were charged under the bawdyhouse law. Subsequent protest action characterizes the event as essentially little more than a panty raid; and a march on the offices of the Toronto Police Services' 52 Division on October 28 featured protestors waving underwear in the air.

Police estimate some 125 women and men — swinging their boxers, sober cotton undies, raunchy red lingerie and bustiers — showed up at the Oct 28 Panty Picket protest in front of 52 Division.

"Fuck you 52" was one of the chants — hearkening back to a slogan from the 1981 bathhouse raids, where police destroyed hundreds of thousands of dollars in property and arrested more than 300 gay men in a carefully orchestrated raid of Toronto bathhouses.

The demo protested the hour-and-a-half-long raid on the Pussy Palace — filled with 300 women — by the five male plainclothes police officers on what they call a "routine liquor inspection" and what the women call harassment.

One picket sign read "Sluts can't be shamed," and props included a giant vulva and a clothesline of lacey underthings.

A call and reply went: "What do we want?"

"Pussy!"

"When do we want it?"

"Now!"

Even the cops laughed — at least 18 of whom lined the entrance to 52 Division during the protest.

Eastern Blood-sucking Conenose (Triatoma sanguisuga)

Distribution: Found throughout the eastern halves of Canada and the USA, as well as most of Latin America. Especially common in the southeastern USA.

Habitat: Found mainly in wooded environments, but can also be found nesting in homes and on farms.

Diet: Feeds mainly on the blood of mammals, such as raccoons, rats, dogs, cats and humans. Also occasionally feed on tree frogs.

Description: This bug's name is pretty self-explanatory. It's a kissing bug, named so due to these insects' habits of feeding on people's faces, especially around the mouth. These insects usually feed on a sleeping host, and have an anesthetic in their saliva that allows them to feed for up to eight minutes without being interrupted. Seeing an eastern conenose usually means there are more around, as these insects tend to live in small colonies, without straying very far from their home—since they tend to nest in their hosts' home, they've always got a food source nearby!

Conenoses can use a large array of special senses to track their prey and find a prime biting location. They have the ability to detect carbon dioxide levels, as well as host-specific odors, heat and moisture gradients, air flow messages, chemical cues and infrared radiation. Which would be impressive, if it weren't all for the purpose of biting you.
