Unaware Ironhide is seeing what's going on. I thought the prompt was shock, whoops. Instead of part of the chapter of Haven I planned on sharing, here's what happened between ch. 16 & 17 + what Ironhide saw when he entered the medbay in ch. 17. Way too many chapters to shuffle and rename to officially add this into the story.

Ratchet’s P.O.V. Jamie’s heart rate is low. While Jolt rushes to get the crash cart, I look at Jamie’s vitals and the way she looks. It’s not relieving that she’s not dying. The slow heart rate climbs up past Jamie’s normal range. Jolt rushes in with the cart. “She’s going into shock,” I tell him.

Ironhide’s P.O.V. I walk into the medbay, expecting Jolt and Ratchet to be in their offices. Before walking into Ratchet’s office, I see the two medics in Jamie’s ICU room, concerned. Jolt is injecting something into Jamie’s IV. As I approach the viewing window, I realize Jamie’s vitals are not good. I suspect if she wasn’t on the ventilator, she’d be breathing fast. Jolt and Ratchet see other things that show Jamie isn’t doing well. The twins won’t like this news.

Ratchet’s P.O.V. Jamie was stable at the end of the surgery. I don’t understand why she’s struggling now. It’s hard to think what if I didn’t have her in a medically induced coma and her guardians were awake seeing this? I shouldn’t think about all these what-ifs while trying to stabilize Jamie and figuring out what happened. Come on, Jamie. Crosshairs and Drift are already in a poor mental state. I think while injecting more medication. “We need to put a chest tube in,” I tell Jolt as I listen to Jamie’s breathing. I hurry to get the supplies.

It’s a challenge to work fast but also careful. We continue to inject medication, worried this isn’t working. I don’t know how much time passed before Jamie finally stabilizes. We both sit on chairs in the room. Afraid to return to our offices across the hall.

A half-hour passes and Jamie remains stable. I’m not confident she won’t decline, but enough to go back to my office. I find Ironhide waiting.

The three medics are frustrated because they still haven’t received any information about Jamie’s location. They know not to assume she’ll be fine. “Help!” the medics hear a mech soldier yelling. He runs right into the medbay, carrying Jamie, “they told me to get her here,” the soldier explains to the worried medics, “they stayed behind to figure out how Jamie ended up unconscious in the snow.” Ratchet takes Jamie from the soldier and takes her to the critical care room.

“Frag, eighty-two degrees,” Jolt worries. The three are terrified that they’re too late. Jamie’s vitals add to the fear. They strip every piece of clothing with care. With no time to wait for someone to get clothes, Ratchet grabs some of Jasmine’s he keeps in his subspace. Despite the oversized clothes, it’s the best they can manage. “We need warm IV fluids,” Ratchet tells Jasmine, “We need to do blood warming.” Jolt nods and gets the equipment ready in an ICU room. Ratchet intubates Jamie and puts her on the portable ventilator until she’s moved to an ICU room. Jasmine returns with warmed IV fluid. She helps Ratchet move Jamie to an ICU room.

They are careful as they put in IV lines for the infusion and hemodialysis machine. They are careful as they wrap Jamie in two blankets with her arms out, then layer several more blankets on top of her. Ratchet switches Jamie to the ventilator in the ICU room. The fear that Jamie won’t be lucky this time is strong. Along with not looking forward to telling anyone, but especially Jamie’s guardians. “Y-you don’t think s-she knew she could die, do you?” Jasmine struggles to ask. “No, I think she was worried about protecting everyone else. She wouldn’t care if she died,” Ratchet explains. “I can’t believe this is happening again,” Jolt sighs.

I know the smut fanfiction blog is probably not the best place for awareness posting, but this is my only real outlet and I'd like to share what's happening regarding the storm.

My area was affected by Helene — I woke up a little over a week ago at 4 am from the storm, to no power and standing water within my apartment.

The area where I live now was not hit too badly, so everything is back to normal for me now, and obviously I have power and internet again.

But the same is not true for many people near where I'm originally from. This storm has completely devastated Appalachia.

A village that was like a second home to me is gone. Every single building in the village is either underwater or decimated, and some of its residents are missing.

People in the surrounding area are desperately trying to reach family and friends — whole areas have essentially gone radio silence with no cellular data, even now almost two weeks after.

Many Appalachians have lost literally everything, including family, pets, and homes. The region is heavily reliant on orchards, livestock and tourism, so many livelihoods have been swept away. This area also already had a major poverty issue to begin with, so many had very little, and now literally have nothing but the clothes on their back.

Moreover, the handling of this situation by federal administration has been disgraceful and negligent, if not outright malicious.

Any acknowledgement at all was absurdly delayed, and the financial aid being given is the disaster response equivalent of a band-aid on a severed artery.

The FEMA people are present (sometimes), but they don't do anything, they just stand there and occasionally harass people for taking photos or loitering in parking lots. If anything, they are dedicating most of their time to delaying incoming resources and actively impeding independent rescue efforts. All while we have corpses strewn up in trees and people still trapped in their homes.
