Many expected that James Cameron’s long promised adaptation of the famed manga Battle Angel Alita would never materialize, but when the megastar director conceded the reigns to Robert Rodriguez, the project was at last brought to life. Sadly, the uncanny valley effect of the film’s bug-eyed CG protagonist did not entice large audiences, and while well regarded by fans of the manga, the response was not effusive enough to guarantee the sequel promised in the film’s ending. Join Sebastian, Chris and Rodney as they strip this cyborg for parts and debate if there’s still a way forward for this cyberpunk wannabe franchise. Our latest episode is available on all the podcast places — thanks for checking it out! 🎪🔪😇 #podcast #podcastepisode #newepisode #episode #filmpodcast #movies #moviereview #scifi #actionadventure #jamescameron #alitabattleangel #robertrodriguez #cyberpunk #magna #franchise https://www.instagram.com/p/CmXFFZtug3r/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Hello friend! It's Jesse here again to make an updated status post about Roy Kaplan, the paranormal cyberpunk detective audio drama that at least some of you have been very patiently waiting for for the last two and a half years.
What is Roy Kaplan?
Roy Kaplan, as stated above, is a detective audio drama with paranormal and cyberpunk elements. It's heavily based on the style of old time radio shows such as Richard Diamond, and greatly inspired by 30s-50s hardboiled detective fiction. It features the titular Roy Kaplan--private investigator, ex-burglar, and psychic. With his unique skill set and the occasional assist from his ghost roommate Wes, Kaplan solves all kinds of different cases across the city.
Out of Sight is the first season of Roy Kaplan, consisting of 12 episodes, 35-40 minutes long each. The episodic format makes it so most episodes can stand on their own, without needing context from previous episodes (though obviously it is better to listen to the season in release order).
Hey, what the hell is going on with Roy Kaplan?
If you have been one of the people very patiently waiting for Roy Kaplan's release, you are probably aware that we have experienced numerous delays. Real life happens, etc.
Anyways, due to extenuating circumstances, the studio I was previously working on with Roy Kaplan, Tiny Lunar Dragon Studios, has dropped out and I (Jesse, the writer) am taking over the remainder of production and editing. I've been steadily working through all the episodes since May to get them edited together (as well as opening the final casting call for this season to take care of our last required voice files) and I am hoping for a release near the new year.
You might be skeptical of this ETA, since literally every ETA we've given so far has been insanely wrong, but since I'm the one personally doing the work this time, I have a higher level of confidence in this estimate. I've edited together eight of the twelve episodes so far (minus missing files) and assuming no further unforeseen circumstances, I should be able to finish somewhere around November or December. (And if not then, then a few months after that.)
Where will I be able to listen to Roy Kaplan when it releases?
I'll be hosting Roy Kaplan using Pinecast, so you'll be able to listen to the podcast on any RSS feed aggregator. I will also be posting episodes on my Patreon, where supporters will be able to access episodes one week early.
I expect to release Roy Kaplan: Out of Sight on a once every two weeks schedule. I'll talk more about trailer and launch dates when I've gotten all the audio files and the episodes themselves more edited together.
In the meantime, if you want to stay up to date or ask more questions about Roy Kaplan, check out any of the following places:
This Tumblr
The writer's Tumblr (that's me)
Roy Kaplan on The Pinwheel Lab
The Pinwheel Lab Discord Server
Also, if you were skimming, we're also currently doing our last casting call for eight roles. The due date is 11PM PST September 20, so check it out!

This episode is sponsored in part by Tokyo Treat! To get $5 your first box of delicious snacks & treats delivered from Japan straight to your door, AND to help support my little podcast, use code "NOSTALGIA" at my link here!
This month’s episode is another short ReView! What is a “ReView” episode, you might ask? Well, it’s my highly-clever (ok not really) name for episodes where I go back and revisit an older title I haven’t seen in a long time, and see if what I remember (and what my opinions on it) are still the same now that some time’s gone by. It's Summertime, so why not kick back with an 80s cyberpunk action buddy-cop movie? That's right, this month, I'm revisiting the Gainax-made 1988 OVA based off of Masamune Shirow's Appleseed! Is this a great Summer popcorn flick, or does it belong at the bottom of the bargain bin? Let's find out together!

juno steel and the murderous mask
I'm relistening to juno steel, which means I have to start with the murderous mask, and I think if I've listened to anything for the most amount of time anybody has ever listened/watched/read it would be with this. i havent consumed it in upwards of 3 years and usually that's enough to make my shit memory completely forget about something but I'm pretty sure I could do the murderous mask line by line even before rewatching it. it is that ingrained within my psyche. (I can certainly do all of peters lines by heart. even after 3 years.)
how the murderous mask (updated) functions, is it's a murder mystery with two overarching plots, one being the murder of an overtly abusive father figure by an martian mask, and one being the attempted and later successful theft of the mask itself,
(full anaylsis under cut)
The story starts with the introduction of plot a via the death threat behind the crime scene, and focuses mainly on that plot for the duration of the two episodes with leaving clues to how plot b (the attempted theft) starts and concludes.
I'm not going to summarize it detail by detail, but plot a ends up revealing cassandra murdered her father accidentally because she was mad about him cheating her out of her dream job, which then min poses the narrative that cassandra imagined the whole thing (the voice actor for min really does a good job nailing how overtly this is gaslighting cassandra) and the scene of that reveal is very fucking important, not only for establishing how much peter trusts juno (and vice versa) but how peter doesn't pay attention to the logistics of interaction as much as juno does, because juno correctly identifies her gaslighting where peter doesn't. the case ends in an incredibly unsatisfying way, but that's on purpose. because this is ultimately a character driven narrative and not a plot driven one, and its more important if the narrative can provide a satisfying conclusion to the two main characters' narratives.
the ending scene is the the culmination of everything within the narrative so far, peter propositions juno to go to his apartment, and its one of the most well written scenes I've ever experienced, and definitely one of the best moments in queer fiction podcasts. he starts out by telling juno to celebrate since the case was indeed solved, and juno will not die. admitting that it didn't go well of course, but that's not what peter focuses on. he focuses on junos safety, and the survival to live another day which further emphasizes the disconnect between how juno and peter both view the tragic and traumatizing events of the case. Juno is "morally outraged", as peter puts it, (and it's something peter finds attractive. that it's a good thing that juno has that sense of justice) but peter is just happy to live, that juno is alive and that he's right here. with peter. it's a microcosm of how they both react to injustice and traumatizing events. it's what gives the narrative meaning at the end of the day, why the plot a of this story matters, is because we see how our protagonist and his partner cope with the things happening in front of them. it's incredibly cyberpunk.
now I've been kind of burying the lead with this anaylsis, because the plot is not what you will notice about juno steel when you watch it originally. the thing that is centre to this narrative and is the focus is juno and rex's relationship. everything within juno steel (the atypical way it's presented, the overemphasis on character voice and dialogue. the fact this is in a style of a radio drama and not a late 2010s fiction podcast,) all draw your ear to not plots a and b, but the character interaction as it relates to juno and peter both. it's what makes the scene at the end so impactful, because it ties the centre of the narrative, the character writing and dynamic, into the plot. where the episode makes these two things that seem at first disconnected and ties them into eachother is when the murderous mask reaches it's zenith. it suddenly all makes sense.
which makes peters attempted theft of the mask so important, it ties him to the plot and recontextualizes his previous reactions to what happened during the investigation. is peter compartmentalizing the harm he indirectly caused to cassandra? is that why he remains disconnected from the case as soon as it's over to focus on what he can control in this moment. his relationship to juno.
it's actually very interesting to me that peter himself has a more grounded justification for his coping mechanism of the two and less obsessed with moral logistics, because juno himself has the attitude of someone who would be very grounded and focused on just surviving, but he isn't. i think this is reflective of peter having a survival based mindset out of avoidance and compartmentalization. he isn't genuinely only focused on survival, but instead using that to justify to himself why he wants to focus on things that are more hedonistic and pleasurable than focusing on moral logistics. but regardless he recognizes juno as someone he admires (and maybe relates to in the sense he wants to be like juno but can't, maybe) and someone who provides what is lacking in his own life. peter is not manipulating juno into thinking he's attracted to him when he really isn't, juno represents i think a mindfulness that peter finds attractive and enviable? I got kind of hung up on how and why juno is so immediately attractive to peter, and i really do get that long term (being attracted to juno i mean) but within the context of the murderous mask it wasn't clear to me why in the initial introduction peter seemingly did find juno attractive and was flirting with him. There's the explanation that this is simply his default with people, which he acknowledges himself, and that's an alright explanation. but I think it's much more fun to think Junos defensiveness over Rita is what immediately struck Peter as attractive.
(There's also, obviously, all the other factors why juno is attractive to peter, but I think his sense of justice is the main trait immediately apparent to him. then comes how witty juno is. and the moaning like a whore when given a kiss and stuff he becomes more comfortable with and aware of hours later)
the other half of this is why Juno is attracted to peter, and that's much more immediately obvious both because we're in Junos head and because peter nureyev is set up so you think about him as attractive. (Rita having the first interaction with Rex and her giggling and then the first thing Juno comments about him being unmitigated gushing over how Rex looks like he could kill Juno) Peter nureyev is set up to be inarguably Junos dream man from the moment you press play because they immediately set up junos discontent with where he lives, his "moral outrage" at the things happening there, and then Rex Glass walks in: not from Hyperion, handsome, (we later find out he's exactly Junos type) and he provides a temporary escape from Juno having to deal with both the case at hand and Junos ongoing discontent with the situation he's in, his life and the city he lives in.
Peter represents a positive thing for juno, almost always, he puts in the effort in their relationship. it doesn't take much for juno to open up to peter, all things considered. He is grumpy but Peter persists and there's an not immediate but soon after kindness and level of comfort afforded in Junos attitude towards peter. Peter is certainly an incredibly thoughtful and polite person towards juno, (notably so! to the point where thoughtfulness is an extremely prominent character trait in their relationship) but Juno is clearly desperate for attention and that kind of thoughtfulness given to him. which may conflict with his inner monologue, but I think to some degree Juno is an unreliable narrator, as when he is honest with himself, like he is initally, about Peters attractiveness, he tends to go on the defensive externally, even though he likes it. Which aligns with what we know about Juno. We also don't get to hear Junos internal monologue when Peter is questioning him further about himself, so it's left open to interpretation.
I think it's interesting that Peter does represent an incredibly good thing for Juno, whereas vice versa Juno is almost a vice for Peter. Simultaneously encouraging him more to pursue what he finds attractive and unattainable, and also encouraging the distraction that Peter really does crave.
speaking of vices- Peters offer to take juno away is incredibly in character to how he copes with terrible shit happening to him, and he sees Juno unhappy, and while his offer is not the healthiest from his perspective, for Juno it would be the healthy thing to do. But we get glimpses of junos behavioural issues throughout the episode, specifically in regards to seeing himself as incapable and undeserving, which is why he reacts so grumpily to peters unrelenting attention despite liking it and obviously thinking Peter is insanely admirable and attractive because of it, and regardless Juno has really terrible issues with self sabotage. Which is a pre-established trait of his, not only in behavioural pattern but verbally acknowledged via Juno saying he's went to a therapist. (while I won't go into detail because I don't remember all of Junos backstory you will hear me comment on this tibbit again to fully unpack it later, as Juno does have serious fucking issues.)
I think Junos relationship to both his mental health and the place he lives in is extremely important considering the audience of this podcast, as social bigotry doesn't exist in Juno steel, but they did deliberately include societal commentary on the class and methods of oppression within even the first episode, so I think the feeling of not being happy in the place that you are and being very self-punishing about it, is specifically meant to be relatable to people living in bigoted communities, hell, the entire setup with Juno and Rex is relying on pre established knowledge by the audience that having someone not from the place youre living in who doesn't know you or the customs there would be a fantasy that they connect with.
Juno connects with Cassandra because of his past with his family (as is brilliantly hinted to) and as we see he is intimately experienced with that kind of oppression especially from a mother figure, so the place where this connects as Juno truly falling in love with Peter is not only the attention that Juno gets from him but the idea that Juno's sense of justice is a good thing despite Junos entire life previously (and hyperion city itself) telling him that having that sense of justice and being morally outraged is a bad, unattractive thing. Juno feels punished for this, even in the first arc you can tell it's something he's insecure about. "I saved cecil and his father wanted me dead for it." The fact his sense of justice is attractive to someone, that he's admired for inarguably his biggest insecurity had to have been incredibly important to him.
There's so much to focus on in the murderous mask and the thing most people do is the representation, but it's in actuality, quite a sad narrative about living with horrors that you can't control around you. The making out is quite notably great though, Christ.

hiya papaya! my partner and i love your youtube videos, and we recently started a book review podcast focusing on books with queer themes. i wanted to ask if you had any lesser known queer ya book reccs, cuz i'd love to hear about them of so! also, i would love to cover your book at some point and perhaps talk with you about it, but that's future things cuz i don't want to fully ask that when we're only one episode in ourselves. thanks for making such awesome videos!~
I'm a huge huge huge podcast nerd so I may check out yours and would totally love to be on it! I really do despite all appearences spend most of my time gaming while listening to podcasts. Most of those podcasts are old episodes of mbmbam but look, we don't choose our autism.
I so don't do enough reading of NOT bad books in truth. Reading is hard and I take my occasional bad book breaks to read... like random stuff rather than specifically lgbt ya. But digging through my review archives and memory:
I'd be remiss if I didn't mention The Butterfly Assassin series by Finn Longman, which is foremost a spy assassin story set in a closed city but also has (and goes into more later) an aro ace lead character! And a very keen specific focus on close platonic bonds!! Stuff like that always gets passed over talking queer lit because it's not that bombastic I think to go 'there's good friendship here' but honestly so important to me to see books on purpose intentionally highlight platonic bonds as just as important as romantic or sexual. Anyway, great books. Caveat I know the author a bit but like, I am too autistic to hype up a friend's book that I DIDN'T genuinely love.
The aro/ace database is a key friend and work of art.
I think Angels Before Man is very widely known but a very interesting queer angel book!
Valhalla trilogy by Ari Bach is a very fun far future sci fi action fest with norse mythology parallels and dangerous lesbian valkyries
Archangel Protocol series, Lyda Morehouse isn't YA I think. Maybe. The fourth book could be, that one has a teen lead. Anyway, look!!! My fav angel weird sci fi universal unitarian religious 90s cyberpunk series...
I don't think my reccs help much at all here but there you go! I KNOW a lot of indie lgbt books. I just haven't actually read them.... yet......

my super hot take on 'you shouldn't play dnd' (due to it being, not a perfect gaming system for every story + owned by a corporation that, well, it's a corporation so it hates you) -
is that if you want to find a new ttrpg you should check out the oneshot rpg podcast!
it's an actual play podcast run by the fantastic game master james d'amato, and the players are a rotating cast of sharp and hilarious chicago improv comics
the point of the show is to showcase tons and tons of different rpgs, usually indie ones - because there's so much more out there than just dnd, but it's hard to know where to start! each game is played for 1-4 hourish-long episodes, and they're an excellent introduction to whatever game they're playing
where to start? one of my favorite episodes is the one where they play call of cthulhu but as scooby doo characters!
there's no through-line or arc throughout the show's run, so you can look through the catalogue and jump into any episode where the name of the game sounds promising. some of those ttrpgs include the avatar the last airbender ttrpg, wanderhome, the firefly rpg, the dragon age rpg, something called 'gunfucks', and a hundred other systems you've never heard of!
(and if you're into more longform storytelling by the same group of people,
a star wars oneshot in the edge of the empire system spun off into its own show which i love with my entire heart
campaign skyjacks is a post-apocalypse sky pirates story about folktales and anti-capitalism loosely based on the card game illimat and the music of the decemberists
neoscum is a classic near-future cyberpunk dystopia game in the shadowrun system
for you ultranerds, patrick rothfuss is a frequent guest in these longform games!)
anyway i can't recommend the whole podcast network enough in terms of learning new rpgs and laughing your ass off, check it out and have a great day ✌️

I was tagged by the always wonderful @gellavonhamster to post four characters that make me go "my man, my man, my man!!"
(I've done an images-only version of this post previously, but I'm thrilled to elaborate on WHY I adore said characters here :P)
Jonathan Sims (The Magnus Archives)
Tumblr media
(fanart credit here)
How do I begin to explain Jonathan Archivist? He's flawless :P In all seriousness, Jon is legit one of the best, most complex characters I've ever seen in media, and perhaps one of the first characters to ever make me go "THAT ONE. MINE." XD
The best part is when I first started listening to the podcast, and didn't really know WHERE it was going to go or how big the story was going to become, I had s1 Jon who is kind of an asshole and I was SO frustrated by his skepticism CONSTANTLY XD then the end of s1 rolls around, s2 illustrates a character arc that encapsulates the immediate aftermath of a severe trauma SO well, and by the end of s2, I had my ".....oh. Oh no" moment :P
Jon spends pretty much the rest of the series just GOING THROUGH IT in one way or another, and pretty consistently going "This is fine" about all of it even though he is Very Not Fine :P I want to just wrap this man in a big cozy blanket and TAKE CARE OF HIM. Because Jon goes through so much of his whole storyline.....essentially ALONE and it DRIVES ME BONKERS XD There's a point in this series where Jon has pretty much lost every friend he's ever had and it is HEARTBREAKING.
But also, his transformation throughout the series :P I don't want to go into TOO much detail here for spoiler reasons, but god. Jon has moments especially in the latter half of the series where he is SCARY. HE IS POWERFUL. AND HE IS GODDAMN SEXY :P (my bestie likes to listen to s5 episodes with me and laugh maniacally over me Losing My Shit from sheer simp-itude XD)
Also, bonus points for being a Canon Asexual 8D like me!! <3
Johnny Silverhand (Cyberpunk 2077)
Tumblr media
Oh, Johnny, Johnny <3 I pretty much went into this game knowing he was gonna steal my heart, but even then, I was utterly unprepared for just how attached I would become :3
A lot of that is due to playing as a POV character that you essentially craft yourself from the ground up -- prime real estate for a self insert lover like myself XD And despite there being a myriad of colorful characters in the world of Cyberpunk, four of which you can romance, everyone can pretty much agree that Johnny is by far the most important character to the PC, who has the placeholder moniker of V.
The basics of the game's story are that your character, V, is a mercenary in the postapocalyptic world of 2077, and they are betrayed and nearly killed by one of their clients -- their life only being saved due to the presence of a chip they installed in their head during a job, without realizing said chip contained, essentially, the soul of Johnny Silverhand; a rock star turned terrorist who died in 2023.
The main plot of the game focuses on V's attempts to stabilize Johnny's presence in their brain, before the chip eventually overwrites their consciousness and kills them. A lot of that depends on the player's interactions with Johnny throughout the game, but as you can imagine, literally sharing a brain and body with someone can be quite the bonding experience :P
Especially because Johnny is a MESS. He's an alcoholic and drug addict who hides his supreme self-loathing behind a seemingly massive ego -- who talks a big game about his hatred of capitalism but in reality blew up the biggest conglomerate in the city because his girlfriend died (and it was his fault) and he doesn't know how to deal with his feelings.
The moments in the game when Johnny actually opens up to V are CAPTIVATING, certainly in part due to a masterful performance from Keanu Reeves :P This is one of those games that just grabs you with its immersion, and got me genuinely emotional several times during my first playthrough. (One day, I'll get the chance to play it again :P one day XD)
Plus there's also the aspect of building my own personal canon for my V and her relationship with Johnny, and all that adds up to holding a very special place in my heart :3
Gale Dekarios (Baldur's Gate 3)
Tumblr media
I. LOVE. THIS. STUPID. WIZARD. SO. DAMN. MUCH.
Of course I jumped onto the BG3 train for Astarion and ended up falling head-over for the character I most commonly heard referred to as annoying :P
A dorky wizard you say? Who's highly autistic coded? Loves books and his cat? Strongly implied to be an abuse survivor at the hands of an older female partner? AND HE'S SUICIDAL??? I didn't stand a fucking chance :P
I just love listening to him talk so much XD and thank god because he never shuts up :P Nothing like a guy who thinks he's the smartest man in the room who is, IN FACT, very very dumb <3
And lest we forget if you keep him around until the third act of the game, he decides his new coping mechanism is SEEKING GODLY POWER like babe please calm down XD
I've done pretty much all of his possible endings so far outside of doing his origin run (aka playing through the whole game as him), and I just. LOVE HIM SO MUCH <3 I'm excited to romance him again, especially since I missed out on stuff the first time XD Every time I start a new playthrough I end up half-romancing him anyway because I CAN'T HELP MYSELF :P ultimately breaking my own heart when I have to commit to the character I originally set out to romance in the first place XD and he's always the first companion I get to the Exceptional approval level :3
that's my emotional support wizard :P and I WILL make him useful by juicing him up with all the good spells, thank you VERY MUCH XD
Black Leg Sanji (One Piece)
Tumblr media
You all knew this was coming :P
Hey, you ever casually look at a fun pirate manga here and there as a teenager without ever really getting into it, but you know EXACTLY which character would be your fave and just kinda tuck that away in the back of your mind?
And then some odd years later, that manga gets adapted into an extremely successful and astonishingly well made live action Netflix series that is much more accessible to you than the source material?
And THEN that gets you engaging with more and more of the source material's fan content until you still haven't even watched the anime proper yet and somehow THIS has happened to you??
Anyway moral of the story is that your first instinct as to what character is going to be your favorite it always right no matter what :P OH MY GOD WHAT HAS HAPPENED TO ME
I just. Love him SO MUCH.
He cooks. He fights by KICKING PEOPLE REALLY HARD. Like SO hard. Hard enough that he can SHATTER CONCRETE WALLS??? WITH HIS HANDS IN HIS POCKETS LIKE HE'S ORANGE CASSIDY.
He smokes CONSTANTLY. He's ALWAYS associated with fire. He LIGHTS HIMSELF ON FIRE FOR COMBAT PURPOSES. And yet he has the most water elemental oriented soul I've EVER SEEN. (and CHRIST HOW IS HE SO FUCKING SHREDDED--)
He's 80% Leg. His EYEBROWS do the fucking THING. He's FRENCH. The extent of his post-timeskip transformation is PARTING HIS HAIR DIFFERENTLY. His name is a PUN. He is AN IDIOT and also SO SMART. He has to have 17 karmic punishments from the narrative before we ever get to his tragic backstory. His adoptive dad ate his own foot.
He's a Hopeless Romantic. He COMPLETELY FORGETS HOW TO ACT every time he so much as Sees A Woman at thirty paces. He gets so many comedic anime nosebleeds that it becomes A PLOT POINT. He has a CODE OF CHIVALRY that actually makes sense kind of (especially once you know his tragic backstory).
Lest we forget to mention that he's part of a FOUND FAMILY!!!! He has SO much love to give and his love language is all of them :P A different one for each person on the crew, as far as I can tell. With Zoro it's "the only person who's allowed to kill you is me, dammit" XD
ALSO!!!!! COME TO FIND OUT HE'S AN ACTUAL FUCKING PRINCE THAT'S JUST CASUALLY THROWN OUT THERE I JUST FLDKJAFLKDAFJLDSAF
I just. Husband Material. HUSBAND. I wanna lock that shit down SO BAD. I'm AS OBSESSED WITH HIM as he is with EVERYONE ELSE and by god I am making it the problem of all of my followers :P

What the hell, since it's Podcast Girls Week, and Iggy Sever is my own podcast girlie... here's a rough version of Episode 1. There's no credits or music or soundscaping. It's just me, the mic, and my shaky grasp of editing in Reaper. And here's the basic transcript for those who'd like it.
Crime Of the Week is a cyberpunk true crime podcast set in So-Lar City. Each week, Iggy Sever breaks down the weirdest and wildest crimes across all corners of the sprawling megacity, all in under 15 minutes!
This episode: sex toys are stolen and NOT used for their intended purpose.

Tuesday again no problem 2/20/24
listening
I got into listening to the podcast The Worst of All Possible Worlds recently, and their episode on Neuromancer made me feel very validated.
They echoed the same sentiments that I feel: Neuromancer is a very strange book with a meandering, hard to follow plot, that can be weirdly racist and misogynistic at times. However, there’s a reason it’s regarded as a cyberpunk classic, and there are concepts and scenes from the book that are genuinely compelling; for this reason I can’t bring myself to fully hate the book. It wasn’t fun to read but I’m glad I read it.
The rest of this podcast is about whatever random media the hosts feel like talking about, and I’m kind of a sucker for shows where hosts just have genuine conversations about why they like or dislike a thing. This show has been filling that niche for me recently.

I’m continuing to slowly work my way through Ancillary Justice. I’m still not very far into the book, but I’m already starting to become quite fond of the main character and her peculiar interest in music.

watching
I rewatched this video essay about Rain World’s lore the other day, because my brain continues to chew on the lore of this game and I kind of wanted a refresher on the bigger plot.
youtube
Some people have already pointed out that some of the points in this video aren’t 100% accurate to the lore, and I disagree with some of the conclusions it draws, but it does a good job of giving a general overview of the game’s story. I think if you’re interested in learning about Rain World’s lore, this is a good place to start (but be wary of spoilers).
playing
Mostly Rain World. I haven’t played much this past week, but I did find time to throw a singularity bomb at Five Pebbles, so that was fun.
youtube
making
Still working on my Five Pebbles plushie.
Tumblr media
I started on his cloak. I still need to finish his arms and sew everything together. I put some wire in him so he will be poseable, but the wire keeps sticking through one of his legs so I might need to add some more stuffing there. Trial and error!
I also posted some Rain World worldbuilding ideas a few days ago. Nothing too complicated, just some brainstorming and sketches for a hypothetical creature.
Tumblr media
This coming week will be extremely busy for me so I’m not sure if I’ll have much to report, but idk, I guess we’ll see.

✩Podcast Rec: Motive Unknown✩
Literally THEE podcast that started it (i.e., this blog, because this podcast wasn’t on Podchaser and I was, rightfully, outraged) all.
Motive Unknown by Alexander Rinaldi is a cyberpunk murder mystery about jaded (yet hopeful?) detective Derek Reyne and the series of strange murders he’s trying to solve
Why I love it:
The murder mystery is intriguing! More than that, you root for Reyne as a character and he feels three dimensional
Episodes are short (around 15 mins)
Worldbuilding is so interesting, to the point that I would have loved to know more about the characters/settings outside of Reyne’s pov and story (it feels very VA-11 Hall-A/Song of Farca, if you’re familiar with those games)
Also, it’s kind of hysterical how casual murder is in this universe. Don’t get me wrong, it’s unique, I’m into it, it just gets a heh out of me every time Reyne emphasizes how often people get murdered here
Transcripts and trigger warnings available here! Go give this one some love<3

Revisions and Shameless Promotion
Shameless promotion first:
Hello! It would be a waste not to try to ride what remains of the armored core hype train to say you should check out our radio drama / actual play podcast All That You Know!
It's a sci-fi / cyberpunk story about a war on a distant world, where an Oppressive Utilitarian Government fights against spiritual freedom fighters, and the players are on the Oppressive Government's side! Of course, most of the fighting is done by giant robots.
If that high concept overview sounds even remotely interesting, you should give it a shot! You can find more information here.
Or just look for Calamity Cascade on spotify or any other podcast app.
(Also, if you want to play your own Armored Core adjacent story, I would highly recommend the game we're playing: the award winning Beam Saber, by Austin Ramsay)
REVISIONS:
With that out of the way, I just wanted to say I made some changes to the introduction + episode 0. Mainly cleaning up some audio, and removing the narrative introduction from ep. 0 because it was a bit confusing having it repeated.
In my mind, this will make it a bit more approachable. (But I still regret calling the real first episode, episode .5. bad call on my part, but not an easy fix without shuffling the entire series).
We're well past 600 downloads now, and we are all so happy that you folks are liking the show. I've been pretty bad with promoting this anywhere but tumblr, and I am so glad I've been able to reach people on this platform.
Maybe one day we'll branch out once the dust settles in the social-media sphere. But until then, we're a tumblr show baypy.
