Barbie as Rapunzel: First Thoughts

The following is my thoughts while watching this for the first time.

Wow, already an upgrade in the shading and lighting judging by this intro alone.

And the CGI looks better too! Nice casual outfit Barbie’s got on.

I assume each special will start out with Barbie reassuring Kelly about something? Hope this doesn’t get stale soon.

Already this special feels like it has an upgraded sense of scale.

Ooh so instead of a tower, it’s a mansion protected by a magic barrier. That’s… actually pretty cool! A nice change from the original, even if the home seems pretty modern looking on the outside.

I find it humorous that the name of one of the coolest Spidermen ever is also the name of a cockney rabbit sidekick.

A sweet and colorful dragon portrayed by Cree Summer? I’m getting flashbacks to Sonic: SATAM.

Peneople looks like if a Dragon Tales character was in an early PS2 game and I like it. She’s so cute!

Remember how I joked about Disney copyright last time? Seems like Rapunzel did the idea of Gothel being an attractive witch first.

Ok this entrance of Gothel riding through the forest is way more metal than Tangled.

Interesting how this Rapunzel calls Gothel “m’lady” instead of “mother”.

Speaking of Disney, Gothel’s design reminds me a lot of Lady Tremaine.

The ferret sounds VERY fruity.

Man Hobie straight up wants Gothel to die. Pretty dark for a Barbie movie.

I find it funny that shenanigans with a tea set caused a secret entrance to be found.

Lol, I can relate to Penelope’s hatred of snakes.

The plot thickens as we see Rapunzel discovering a message from her real parents way earlier than in Tangled.

Heh, the ferret uses it’s tail as a sleeping mask for Gothel.

Once again, a new room discovered via accident.

Wow and she’s already out of the tower and discovered the kingdom. This thing’s going along fast!

Why is seeing the chef in his comically large hat standing in one spot with a goofy smile on his face causing me to mentally cackle like a loon?

I LOVE the “rabbit’s ear as a radio antenna” gag!

Wait, Penelope has a dad?

Looks like both Penelope and Rapunzel have parental issues.

I can relate to Penelope’s fear of heights. It’s ok, honey, we can curl up into a fetal position together.

Hobie: “Does he ever smile?” Penelope: “Not around me”. God my heart just broke into a million pieces at that line. Why does this hurt more than anything Gothel says to Rapunzel?

It’ll never not be odd to see all of these children with the same face.

The Prince looks just like the one from the Nutcracker. I wonder if that’s intentional?

Of course the kings are too stubborn to hash things out. As a result, you get death traps like that pit.

I love the way Otto pronounces “vill-oge”. Hilarious.

Nice showing of both Rapunzel reporting her day to her friends and Otto ratting her out to Gothel at the same time.

Damn, Gothel using her magic to destroy Rapunzel’s paintings of Penelope is cold! Honestly this Gothel seems a lot more menacing and realistic than the Disney version.

I like how this Rapunzel is not only selfless but also has a backbone.

Trippy visuals with Gothel making the house literally grow.

As Hugo was assigned by Gothel to guard the castle, all he could think was “fuck my life”.

Hang on, the little blond boy’s name is Tommy? Wasn’t that the name of the younger brother in Nutcracker?

This boy’s got the “Phantom Menace Anakin” haircut and the personality. Brings back memories of the Prequels. Poor Jake Lloyd…

I like the fact that Stefan and Tommy have the same relationship going on that Barbie and Kelly do IRL

How on earth did the prince find the tower? Isn’t it in the middle of nowhere?

Apparently he “searched everywhere”, but it would probably take ages to go around the entire kingdom. I feel like it’d have been better if maybe one of Rapunzel’s animal friends had been followed by him.

Oh, wait. It was a dream! Ok, that makes more sense. Once again, I should have not underestimated the intelligence of the writers.

Headcanon: (Unless Penelope's mom shows up) Hugo's ex-wife is the dragon from Shrek and they share custody of Penelope. Hugo really hates donkeys now.

Holy crap, this is a beautiful melody Penelope is singing.

The knights remind me of Bert and Ernie. I’ve always loved that dynamic.

The mental paintbrush is a really cool idea. More properties should use it.

Rapunzel straight up saying she’d rather be dead than be a prisoner. Respect.

See, now is Stefan tired and exhausted from actually looking everywhere.

Maybe Rapunzel doesn’t want to know Stefan’s name in case it’s a dream or so that she won’t hurt as much if she loses him.

Once again, we have a prince not telling Barbie’s character he’s royalty.

It saddens me to know that the silversmith is unable to visit or speak to his brother due to the ban on Wilhelm’s kingdom. It’s a realistic worry.

Now we’re getting elements of Cinderella with the masked ball. Once again, connections since Gothel reminds me of Tremaine.

Hobie, I don’t think that Gothel is going to care if you’re in pain. Woman’s a total sadist.

Did Otto just orgasm?

The paintbrush really is OP. It can make clothes!

The mystical music is funny because right now, they’re doing the “girl tries on new clothes” montage.

Eh the final dress is ok, but I actually think the first “simple” one looked the best.

Funny how in Tangled, Rapunzel's hair gets cut by Eugene to stop Gothel. Here, Rapunzel's hair gets cut by Gothel instead.

Gothel, maybe don’t piss off the big strong dragon who has been willingly helping you?

Now we’re finally seeing King Wilhelm. I wish we got some more of him earlier.

Ok, Gothel has to have some sort of spell activated because how the hell did Stefan not think “why does your face look so different?”.

Love to see Penelope call her dad out on his bullshit, and get through to his softer side.

Nice to see her get some love from her dad after all this time.

WOO! Tommy used his bow and arrow to save his big bro! Kid’s got guts.

And now the little children pelt her with fruit!

Really impressive sword choreography for a Barbie movie.

So Gothel just stole Rapunzel from Wilhelm because she hated being in the friend-zone. Ridiculously petty.

And Rapunzel STILL offers forgiveness to Gothel! She truly is an angel.

Honestly, the fact that this Gothel is trapped inside the tower due to her own spell for all eternity is WAY more of a scary way to go then falling out of the tower like Disney’s Gothel did.

What a wonderful ending! Seeing everyone reunited and hearing that wonderful credits score gave me such a smile.

It bums me that the Sonic VAs got nothing for the Sonic movie. At least the Mario one gave Charles Martinet something to do even if they're side characters. Mike Pollock has been voicing Eggman since Shadow the Hedgehog and he got Jack. Same with Smith and Griffith. Could have at least had Knuckles dad be played by Dan Green or Travis Willingham or something (note I love Christopher Lloyd)

Oh trust me, my friend, I am right there with you. It gets worse with the addition of Tails. He is still voiced by his og actress, Colleen O'Shaughnessey. And let me tell you right now, the difference in talent and competency when you put Tails and Ben Schwartz into the same scene together is night and day. (Here's their literal first scene together to prove it.)

(And to anyone who thinks I'm giving Mr. Schwartz a hard time... i mean, fair enough. I am. But you can't tell me he has given ANYTHING to Sonic that he didn't already do in DuckTales (2017) as Dewey Duck, and as Jean-Ralphio Saperstein before the both of them in Parks &. Recreation, which is the entire point of why I viscerally dislike him as a voice actor very specifically. It'd be fine if he stayed in his lane, you know, as a comedian, but he didn't, so he's getting my full criticism. Especially where Sonic is concerned.)

Jason Griffith most likely would have been pleased to come back to Sonic. I mean he voice acted for the guy for seven years and is HIGHLY beloved by the Sonic fandom to this day. Especially for his work on SonicX. Roger Craig Smith is IMMENSELY talented and has been voicing Sonic for over ten years now, and is so good at his job that he is STILL voicing Sonic despite the franchise's setbacks and his own announcement of leaving the role. Because he's good at it and he's passionate about it. (I personally love RCS more than Jason. Not that Jason is bad by any means but RCS is underrated imo.)

I'm not as well versed in this, but there's ALSO the fact that Knuckles' voice actors didn't get hired to voice the echidna either. They hired Idris Elba, and some people were saying was going to be fantastic in the role, and you know what? In my opinion, he sucked. He absolutely bombed it. And I say that knowing how well he does on screen in an acting role because I have watched him play Heimdall for 10+ years. He HAS talent, but is NOT a voice actor. And he certainly is not a good fit for Knuckles the Echidna. He didn't even come anywhere close to emulating Knuckles' voice.

And then you get the argument of "oh but the voices don't have to be the same" — my sweet summer children... The joy of voice acting and animated characters is that it DOES all come down to the voice and the voice matches the character design. The voice is the ENTIRE SELLING POINT. You don't get the voice right, then the entire acting fails and no animation talent can save it. It sucks but it's true. (As someone who had to struggle to find a fitting voice for my thesis' film's main villain this is such a priority that people overlook. Good enough isn't good at all.)

Honestly though, the real kicker here is that the Sonic franchise should never have been a "live action" film at all. I loathe "live action remakes" of animated films no matter what they are. I especially hate CGI/live action fusions that make that the selling point when Roger Rabbit proved that it can be done much better with 2D/hand-drawn animation. (To a lesser extent: compare the og. Space Jam with the remake, or even Space Jam with the og Smurfs. The quality difference all these years past is not even comparable.)

Also, it's not even a "live action remake", because, spoiler alert, the characters are still animated and no amount of life-like special effects will change that.

Hollywood (and America as a whole) needs to quit disrespecting animation and calling it "for kids" when it is a medium. It always has been.

Finding family

Lord Garmadon found the monastery after the merge. He meets Lloyd who is training Arin and Sora. Garmadon soon discovers that he likes children and slowly begins to treat them like grandchildren.

"Finally!" Garmadon exclaimed as he saw the Monastery of Spinjitzu in front of him.

"Finally home." He had never seen anything like merge before. If he found out that his brother knew about this...

He gathered his strength and climbed the last few steps.

"This is a bit different," he noticed to himself. Some things had changed. Maybe it was Wu or Lloyd.

"A lot has changed because of the merge," he heard a high-pitched voice say.

"Who are you?" he shouted when he saw a stranger.

"The real question is, who are you? We live here," another child with pink hair appeared.

"No way," Garmadon said, amused. "Since when?"

"Since yesterday," the boy said. "Master Lloyd, he only decided to train us."

"Master Lloyd," Garmadon said thoughtfully, filled with pride. Who would have thought that children grow up so fast.

"Actually, just Lloyd, he insists on it," the girl with pink hair corrected him.

"And who are you?" the boy asked again.

"You know my son. He is here..."

"Your son?!" the girl with pink hair was startled.

"No offense, but you don't really resemble each other..." she said, examining him from head to toe.

He saw intelligence in her every gaze. She reminded him a little of Misako, and his heart pained once again.

"Come on, Sora, I told you about this," the boy said again. So, pink-haired girl is Sora, Garmadon made a mental note.

"Well, that's Lord Garmadon, Lloyd's father whom he fought against in the final battle."

"That was a long time ago," Garmadon replied.

"He's also a legend!" the child said excitedly once again.

"You know, kids, I'm starting to like you all." Garmadon told them and smiled. "But where is Lloyd..."

"Dad?!" someone's surprised shout interrupted him from across the courtyard.

"You're back!" Lloyd said excitedly and hugged Garmadon.

"I'm so glad you're here at least..."

"At least me?" Garmadon sadly said when Lloyd moved away from him. And what about Misako, the ninjas, and even Wu.

"So, no one else is here..."

"No one," Lloyd said with a cheerful tone and.pointed at the children. "I suppose you've already met, but..." Lloyd said.

"Dad, these are Arin and Sora, my students. Sora has elemental powers, and Arin is..He taught himself spinjitzu."

He looked at the children more closely. The boy, Arin, was now bouncing with excitement again, and Sora was looking at him again.

They were strange, but he discovered that he even liked the children...

"Arin, Sora, this is my dad, Garmadon," Lloyd completed the introduction.

"So, grandchildren," Garmadon playfully remarked, and Lloyd blushed.

"It's not what you think. Just students," Lloyd said. "No, not just students. They are family, but not what you think."

"Both Sora and I have parents," Arin said, and Sora shifted uncomfortably.

"But we would be honored if you were our grandfather," he said cheerfully. "Right, Sora?"

"Oh, yes," Sora said, still seeming upset about her parents.

"Wait a minute," Garmadon said, remembering something Lloyd had mentioned earlier.

"This child, Arin. He taught himself spinjitzu? That's rare."

"Rare?" Lloyd asked confusedly. "I thought it was impossible."

"Hardly impossible. I know someone who has already done it..." Garmadon began and then abruptly changed the subject.

"What elemental powers do you have?" he said, turning to Sora. "And which of your parents has elemental power?"

"None," Sora replied, which surprised Garmadon.

"Merging messed up a lot of things, apparently even elemental powers," Lloyd added to clarify everything.

"And as for elemental power," Sora continued, "I think it's technology... Besides, they're not mine, they belong to Ryu."

She pointed to a small dragon by her feet that he hadn't noticed before.

"Elemental powers are connected to dragons, but that's your power," Garmadon told her.

"See, this is the second confirmation." Lloyd said, and Garmadon could assume that he had already had this conversation with Sora many times.

"So, now you're a Master?" Garmadon asked Lloyd with a hint of pride in his voice.

"Not exactly," Lloyd shrugged. "Just until Master Wu returns."

"I see that Sora is not the only one who needs to work on self-realization, son," Garmadon gently said, placing his hand on Lloyd's shoulder.

DING!

"What is that?" Garmadon confusedly asked.

"Dinner," Lloyd told him.

"My pies are ready,"Arin said and ran to the monastery.

"He's really good at making pies," Sora told him when he looked at her questioningly, and then she also went towards the monastery. Garmadon followed her a little slower.

Arin and Sora were somehow different, but he discovered that he really liked them.

"Are you okay?" Garmadon approached Sora, who was anxiously fixing her merch.

"You seem upset ever since Arin mentioned..." He hesitated, unsure of how to express himself without hurting the child even more.

"I'm fine, Mr. Garmadon. Thank you," she replied, giving him a tired smile.

"Just Garmadon," he corrected her, then sat next to her, unsure of what to say.

"Where are you from?" he asked simply, trying to start a conversation even though he already knew the answer to that question.

"Imperium," she answered and sighed again.

"And someone hurt you there," Garmadon said again, trying to make Sora trust him.

My parents," she spoke, incapable of continuing on her own.

Garmadon realized she needed help, so he continued to pry.

"Sora is your birth name?"

"No, Ana is," Sora replied.

"And how did you come to be called Sora?"

"There was this one dragon. In the Imperium. When I worked in the laboratory that I always dreamed of. They tortured him. Exploited him to harness energy. It seemed wrong to me, so I didn't want to participate. I left the laboratory soon after. But my parents, they... They believe in the Empire more than anything. They couldn't accept me for who I truly am, so I ran away after the merge."

"That's a sad story. I always had the feeling that my father loved my brother more than me," Garmadon responded gloomily.

"It's not like he didn't have reasons."

"Every parent should accept their child, no matter what it is like." Sora said, feeling anger resurfacing within her.

"If they can't do that, then it's better not to have the child at all."

"Now I see what's holding you back," Garmadon replied.

"What?" Sora asked, although she already knew the answer.

"Your relationship with your parents." Garmadon answered and patted her on the shoulder.

"I know it's painful, but one day you'll have to talk to them."

"I'm not looking forward to that day." Sora replied and returned to her repairs.

"If you ever need someone to talk to, you know where to find me." He said and smiled at her as warmly as he could.

"I know. Thank you, Garmadon." She replied and smiled back.

After that, he went to the kitchen to find Arin standing there, looking downhearted.

"Are you okay?" he asked him.

"I'm fine, just a little lonely." Arin replied. "Sora is a little upset."

"I know." Garmadon responded. "I talked to her."

"Would you like to bake pies with me?" Arin asked him. Garmadon agreed, realizing he needed company.

"Of course."

"Actually, I'm almost done." Arin told him as he started rolling out the pie crust. "Can you help me with this?"

"I can, just don't get upset if they don't turn out great."

"I'll fix them." Arin replied and let Garmadon do the work.

"Do you have family, Arin?"Garmadon asked him.

"Yes, parents, but they are lost in the merge." Arin sadly replied and started kneading the dough.

"I have also lost some dear people." Garmadon told him, "But don't worry, we will find them, all of them. Besides, didn't we just eat pies earlier?" He asked, suddenly remembering that they had just had dinner.

"Because we need them for tomorrow morning." Sora clumsily said, who had just appeared at the door.

"Hm?" Garmadon said and raised an eyebrow at Arin.

"Y-y-yes," Arin stammered.

"What are you hiding, children?" Garmadon asked them.

"We wanted to go to the Crossroad carnival so bad," Arin confessed. "But Lloyd won't let us."

"Too much ninja training, and all that," Sora sighed, as if the thought of training tired her.

"Luckily, you have me," Garmadon said proudly and smiled.

"Will you help us?" Sora asked him, confused.

"I will. I will distract Lloyd so that he doesn't even notice that you've gone."

"Thank you, but why are you doing this?" Arin looked puzzled.

"I know you've probably heard a lot about me, and a lot of things that aren't nice, but family is family," Garmadon assured him.

"If you're my son's family, then you're my family too. Family must stick together, something I learned the hard way."

"Thank you," Sora said excitedly, as she and Arin hugged Garmadon.

"Well, you're welcome," Garmadon said and awkwardly patted them on the back, feeling clumsy.

"Now go and come back before dawn." Garmadon waved at them as they left. "And Arin, win that pie competition, I've never tasted pies better than yours."

"We will," they shouted back at him as they left with the small dragon. Garmadon smiled to himself, pleased with his mischief.

His son would probably be angry, but he somehow felt warm inside about it.

"Was this what it felt like to have grandchildren?" He couldn't answer that question, but he had a feeling that these two could help him learn.

Ninja go art dump of shit I didn’t post back in 2022

Most of these are just character sketches from when I was first trying clip studio out.

1) glowy lava arms cole with newly found baby wu. Because I adore children and dad cole and lava cole are both great. So of course I did both

2) slightly pissed lightning Jay, that or he’s happy, I don’t really remember. And fun fact, in this headcanon/au/rewrite, Jay is bigender and/or genderqueer. They’re still figuring this shit out.

3) full body emo genderless lloyd. Has both oni and dragon traits, but they’re apart of their natural physical form. So all the traits you see here are non-optional. Pronouns: they/them

4) lloyd heads! Sweet baby boi! They desperately need therapy. And they unlocked their oni form back in March of the Oni. The purple eye is just something they were born with too. Purple eyes are relatively common among the oni

5) the Lilly Griefstriker family tree. God I love how they handled coles mom and her sickness and badassery. Lilly was goddamn fantastic. Anyway here she was a mixed race kid from between the Geckles and Munce from a small tribe from further down the mines near where the Upply lived. The tribe was killed by a cave in so she fled towards the surface and was met with hostility. So she ran off and was eventually adopted by the dude who’s canonically her dad. She trains and becomes the earth master and goes and frees her people from the dragon. She also helped the only woman there who was kind to her in the beginning while she was giving birth to Gleck (his vibe gave off much younger sibling or cousin vibes). After she killed the dragon she left again because she couldn’t take the hatred between the clans. She would come visit ever couple of months and eventually gave Gleck that locket. And then she has a kid and dies of a horrible chronic sickness that she suffered from for about 10yrs. Oh yeah cole and CJ are there too! Cole definitely takes after his dad but still has a lot of Lilly in him. And CJ is baby Wu. Except he is a full reincarnation/rebirth and so he ages like a normal kid. And totally is, he’s lil Cole Jr. Cole and Jay are his main parents, but everyone else is still around to help out and help guard and protect him. He’s like 7-9ish here.

7) and last but not least, Cole Golems. Cole sustained severe injuries after the fall, to the point the earth completely cocooned him to help the healing process along (which was definitely Lilly’s doing). During which, his consciousness transferred to these handsome rock bois. He had to mime to wear his body was at which nobody got till after MOTO was finished and done. And during clean up someone found his slowly healing/slowly fading body. Fun fact: he has to use mobility aides for the rest of his life! He got real good beating the shit out of people with his crutches. CJ loves wheelchair rides

Hellspawn's birthdays throughout the seasons/years?

1st birthday

unfortunately, it wasn't really a good one, because Zane wasn't there — we all know why :( — and the team was pretty much a split up mess. It was fortunate the other three at least made an effort to show up, but it really felt like there was something missing.

Kai bought his honorary niece some baby hair clips — cuz hair is priority — and Lloyd sucks with his own hair, so he's trying to help the kid out.

Nya, on the other hand, was like "I'm gonna turn this kid into a future builder" so she got her some blocks.

Cole and Jay each got her an onesie...the same one. (sigh) They ended up bickering about it during the entire party.

Sensei G and Misako gave her a stuffed dragon that... looks familiar to Lloyd in a way. Wu just nods at Lloyd knowingly.

Meanwhile Lloyd wanted to make her first birthday as special as possible even though he knew she wouldn't remember it so he made her a mini version of his gi. Sadly, it didn't take long for her to grow out of it and that gave Lloyd some grief....well, lots of grief.

2nd birthday

This one was shortly after Stiix

a whole lot better than the first. They celebrated on the bounty

Zane was there (Yay!), and baked the cake. He (and Pixal) also got her some of those sortable shape toys to exercise brainpower. Nya just says it's because no one wants hellspawn to get Lloyd's iq and... Pixal agrees.

Lloyd bought her some finger paints...which she loved so much that she used them on his hair and face. Her excuse was that Unca' Zane had taught her that paper was bad for trees so naturally, she decided to go for another green source.

Jay got her another version of Mister Cuddlywomp, while Cole showed up with a toy piano — his dad's idea, actually. "Introducing kids to music at a young age is a great way to encourage brain development"...(and turn them into musicians, goes unsaid)

Once again, Kai was like "my niece better be stylish and not have little gremlin Lloyd's horrible taste" and got her a leather jacket — toddler size, of course. This guy even brought some sunglasses and a hat. Nya thinks it looks ridiculous.

Meanwhile, Nya came with some bath toys — which she designed herself to be durable enough against the strong waves of the sea. (She's still not over her new Master of Water status)

Misako got her a book full of children's stories — maybe a collection of legends would be more accurate. She's the historian of the family for a reason.

Dareth gave her a mini plushie of himself and she kept pointing out how much the plushie's eyebrows don't even look anything like his real ones.

3rd birthday

Hellspawn wanted to learn airjitzu but that was quickly out of the question — she's too young. And for FSM's sake, she hasn't even learned spinjitzu yet. So that was instantly a no.

So, Misako was like: just do what your father did with you. He didn't listen to me, but you turned out just fine — I still do not understand how you even turned out just fine!

Which was why Lloyd decided to put her on his shoulders and spin around until they were both surrounded by green. Mission accomplished.

But it is only that he realizes that he'd forgotten the fact she'd just eaten some of the cake earlier and has the stomach of a nauseous toddler. Too bad it's too late to do anything. Lloyd ended up needing a shower shortly after that. Jay got a picture :(

4th birthday

The apartment Lloyd was stuck living in during the year they were looking for Wu.

Dareth decided that she was already old enough to learn a 'sacred' karate move he personally invented. After learning it, she ran to use it on Lloyd.

Misako couldn't show up because she was too far away, but the others managed to come. Except Nya, but she still joined via face time and sent a parcel.

Lloyd made a cake himself instead of relying on Zane and it actually turned out to be edible. Kai was wondering if they'd entered the apartment of an imposter.

But actually, Skylor helped. So yes, the real Green Ninja has not been kidnapped by aliens. Lloyd can be trusted living on his own. A new invasion isn't coming, So Kai, stop setting chopsticks on fire, Nya can't save your ass—

5th birthday

At the monastery, post MoTo

Unfortunately, there's a reason Garmadon isn't here (I've added it in that post about how the ninja managed to take care of hellspawn)

That morning, Wu finds a strange package left outside, with a note that just says Happy Birthday in messy, familiar handwriting. He knows very well who it's from and opens the package to find a plushie of a plant...an unusual choice from someone like him.

And Lloyd gets to meet the boy hellspawn made immediate friends with and finally has confirmation that he's being overprotective over nothing.

Fucking lady Din i hated the Crystalized finale

Not just the finale even the entire second half of the season. I just binge watched it and it SUUUUUUCKED

HORRIBLE pacing. What even was that. None of the plotlines felt aligned or in sync and everything felt like it was moving incredibly slowly. We spent a good quarter of the season in the invasion.

Idk what was up with the cinematography but it looked worse than usual?? Like there were so many shots of up close faces that......weren't doing anything that needed to be zoomed in on?

Garmadon's a hilarious smartass and I genuinely enjoyed his segments but holy moly I did not like his relationship with Lloyd. Garmadon seems to be regaining his humanity but he never remembers himself?? Like he acts WAY more like the Garmadon from the Lego Ninjago Movie than the show Garmadon, who was, may I remind you, literally defined by how he loved his son more than anything else. And then in his "redemption arc" they're all like "he's trying to learn compassion and care so that Lloyd will forgive him" WELL HE'S DOING A DAMN HORRIBLE JOB OF 1. SHOWING IT AND 2. ACTING AT ALL LIKE GARMADON TRYING TO LOVE HIS SON. Seriously the way he treated Lloyd was SO out of character. It makes total sense if he's a broken echo of the real Garmadon and so he treats Lloyd with indifference, but they're presenting Garmadon trying to learn compassion as becoming the same guy he was before he was resurrected, and BOY HOWDY THOSE ARE NOT THE SAME PEOPLE.

Speaking of which: Lloyd why are you being so fucking nice to everybody. He doesn't WANT to forgive his dad. So much of the resurrected Garmadon's character hinges on him being the exact OPPOSITE of the real Garmadon! THAT'S NOT HIS DAD AND HE ACTS LIKE HE KNOWS IT!!! But then he goes and acts like he's kinda getting his dad back even though Garmadon's been a tremendous asshole to him the whole time!! All Garmadon did was not kill a guy (like anyone is allowed to be killed anymore in this show lmao) and Lloyd is suddenly acting like he's made up for what he did?? To be clear I don't think redemption is obtained by doing penance to the people you've hurt, but Lloyd, character-wise, has no reason to treat Garmadon like he's worthy of his trust and love besides his desire to change.

Coming off of that, the show has been so bastardized by misguided "protect the children" principles that it's actively harming the story. Lloyd's the good guy, so he has to forgive and befriend everyone who realizes they're wrong, no matter what they've done to him. Remember, Garmadon disowned him. Harumi made it very clear that she wanted to psychologically torture him and would do ANYTHING to make him hurt. Any love that Lloyd had for these people HAS to be tainted by how much hurt there is in the relationship. But no, he's the protagonist, and protagonists of children's shows have to destroy themselves loving people who hate them and aren't even allowed to feel bad about it.

Also (I think I'll make a separate post about this) the fight scenes have gotten so boring now that they're not allowed to punch. When they're engaged in combat they only ever shoot, dodge, run, and hide. It makes the show feel incredibly pretend and shallow, because they're shying away from actual emotional investment and consequences.

Nya. My love. My darling. Why do you want your powers back. I thought you losing your powers and becoming Samurai X again meant you were rejecting the broken standards and refusing to push yourself to become something that was contrary to your actual character so you could reclaim your symbol of self-determination and independence??? Wtf that arc was literally show long why why why does she have to get her powers back???

UGGHGHGGHGHGHGHGHG HARUMI WHY. We already knew her motivations made no sense but if she's so motivated by vengeance and self-preservation why is she throwing her character aside for a guy that she, oh yeah, hates so much that she revived his dead father to kick his ass?? And if that specific motivation is lessened now because she wants darkness to win the balance or whatever crap that was then why is she so driven to serve the Overlord. Again, if it's self preservation, why the fuck is she so obsessed with Lloyd?? She makes literally no sense.

holy FUCK is the sexism in this show getting obvious. The more I watch the more I see it's literally everywhere. Nya tells the boys to stop using their special thingy so their engines don't overheat. They snark at her and don't listen. Lloyd tells them the same thing. THEY TAKE HIM SERIOUSLY. I am genuinely happy Nya's back in the Samurai X role because that really is where she shines, but NO ONE FUCKING LISTENS TO HER OR RECOGNIZES HER WORK UNLESS THEY THINK THEY NEED HER. Believe me, I love Jaya, but their relationship as it functions is still backwards. No one listens to the girls unless they're doing work for them. UGHGUGHGUGUGHGHGHG

I'm sorry to say it but the Pixane moments felt soulless. I love Pix she's best girl and it was genuinely amazing the way she was carting around Angwy Zane. Her expressions and voice convey so much and it's incredible. But the moment when she woke him up from the coma felt so lackluster compared to the moments they've shared in the past. It's like the writers don't know how to write interesting and healthy romantic relationships after they've gotten together OH WAIT

How dare you show me a four-headed dragon and pretend it's Ultra after you killed them. How fucking dare you show me the ninja reaching up to pet the individual elemental dragon heads and pretend that Ultra never existed.

Lloyd's Oni form FUCKING FSM that was underwhelming. He just looked like a shiny gold Garmadon. He should REALLY have had a dragon/oni hybrid form because that MAKES MORE FUCKING SENSE-

BECAUSE. I hate the angle they went with where the Oni are just pure evil. Yep. They hate everybody and want to destroy everything. Not even human, how gross is that?? Taking things apart, wow, that's so evil for a toy line that depends on that concept. Totally evil, for no reason. I think my idea is SO much better and would have made at least more sense than "you must embrace the inherently evil part of you to defeat evil and darkness personified".

You know what they should have done?? Introduced the idea that Oni aren't inherently evil. That breaking things down is essential to making things better. They keep spouting about the balance and stick yin and yang symbols everywhere but then turn around with the pointedly Western concept of light vs. darkness. Only by accepting the parts of him he's ashamed of and confronting his fears would Lloyd be able to access his dragon and Oni powers. Seriously, cowards, give us dragon/oni hybrid Lloyd. Let him confront his mixed heritage in the way the First Spinjitzu Master and his sons were never able to. HAVE HIM FIND THE FALSITIES OF THE PAST'S LEGACY AND DISMANTLE THEM.

Also the Oni should have bird wings instead of scaly ones because the Dragon Form has dragon wings and the Oni form has.......dragon wings. Fluffy jet-black bird wings. Come on.

I think this season has so many great plotline concepts, but I don't like the way they executed them.

I HAVE RETURNED WITH SEASON 11 THOUGHTS. yes. i finally stopped what was a completely unprompted several week long procrastination for no reason at all.

ok first things first: not a fan of the 11 minute episode format!!!! i want my b plots back!!!!!!! its not fine but whatever i'll survive. number two this season was a little all over the place and definitely couldve benefited from being two separate seasons just because the first and second halves are so entirely disconnected from each other but its not the end of the world.

it is now time to talk about one of my most favorite things about ninjago ever: namely, the COMPLETELY INCOMPREHENSIBLE TIMELINE. following in the footsteps of the last writers, whoever has taken the reigns this season has carried on the age old tradition of sticking dates onto the ninjago timeline that make it more convoluted than beforehand. its wonderful. its delightful. i dont think ive ever seen a messier timeline in any piece of media in my entire life. the timeline was broken from the literal beginning between lloyd's existence & wu's flashback to garmadon getting banished to the underworld or whatever and it Just Got Worse. (no for real that entire thing is so terribly funny its like. ok garmadon got banished to the underworld when they were both presumably young adults maybe (???) so logically lloyd had to have been born sometime around there but when we meet him lloyd is probably like somewhere from 8-13 years old and wu and garmadon and misako are Very Old. and its just. so funny. its so funny. THAT ASIDE)

so back to the latest edits to the timeline. evil snake lady claims that wu betrayed her thousands of years ago. so wu is thousands of years old, but is also presumably somewhere around kai and nya's parents' ages given that they all seemed to be young adults at the time. which was also in ancient ninjago times and also like 50 years ago max. does it make sense? no of course not its the ninjago timeline. it gets even better though, because we are now introduced to the concept that … allegedly. there was a tenuous peace that existed for millenia between the serpentine and humans pre-wu & garmadon almost screwing that over so bad. and we can reasonably assume that the serpentine were created along with the rest of ninjago, so …… did the fsm just create garmadon & wu a few thousand years after chilling out in ninjago for a while? who knows. least of all me.

actually speaking of the first spinjitzu master i want to complain for a minute because i hate this guy. frankly i dont think he was a very good dad. i dont even think he was a mediocre dad. in fact i think he was a pretty crappy parent. like. like okay evidence number one: look at his children. the amount of mental illness there is unreal. you cannot look at wu and garmadon and tell me that the fsm was any sort of decent at parenting. like… ok im 99.9% sure they did not have a mom, which would imply that the fsm created them himself. which would FURTHER imply that, for some completely and entirely incomprehensible reason, he gave garmadon mostly (??? im still really unclear on this but we've gone through that) oni blood and wu mostly (??? see above) dragon blood. instead of, yknow, giving them half and half. to get more clear: he specifically screwed over garmadon for no reason. also it should be noted that even after wu and garmadon have found out that the evil snake lady is evil and 10000% intends to use spinjitzu to kill everybody they still dont tell the fsm about any of it because they fear his reaction more than they do the consequences of this. they go behind his back and use an expressly forbidden technique to clean up this mess because, again, they fear his reaction more than any of the other consequences. i do not think he was a good parent at all.

back in like season 2 garmadon says that wu was always the fsm's favorite and honestly i believe it given whatever the heck is going on with their blood, but its quite unfortunate that even the favored son still got massively screwed over by the fsm because said fsm SUCKS and is a TERRIBLE PARENT. like at some undefined point prior to the anacondrai drama the fsm just up and leaves for no reason in particular and like. wow. the guy really did just make one of his sons evil by default and then when it got worse he ditched and and dumped the responsibility of cleaning that up onto his younger son, thereby forcing him to send his brother to hell and traumatizing him for life. okay. thanks first spinjitzu master. and if that wasnt enough he then drops back in 50000 years later to try to drag lloyd off to who knows where and then immediately ditches again. his entire lineage is just mental illness: the family. i dont think that the fsm was like. actively trying to be an atrocious parent or anything but i do firmly believe he was grossly neglecting his duties as a father and was in general incredibly distant and unhelpful and probably spent more time getting mad at his children than anything else. tldr i hate the first spinjitzu master. i hate him so much.

anyways lets talk about wu for a minute while we're on the topic. i think its incredibly interesting that he wanted to 1) turn himself into snake lady whose name escapes me at the moment despite the fact that its pretty clear she wouldnt have stopped at just getting back at him and 2) go by himself to save zane when he had absolutely no way of getting home and knew it. frankly i would not be surprised if there was some amount of suicidal ideation / martyr complex going on there. in other news i am SO delighted 1) we got a garmadon and wu flashback. huge win for tumblr user iratusmus and 2) wu got to be the bad influence this time because that is so terribly funny. i think wu should want to do things he's not allowed to do more often. i support it. also, tangentially related: i know john mulaney is cancelled now or whatever but this is really just wu in a nutshell

and since i've already mentioned him, lets go ahead and talk about zane for a minute. i am…….. honestly incredibly disappointed with ice emperor zane like. the biggest problem here is that they didnt really do anything interesting with it - its never really relevant that its zane specifically who has become the ice emperor outside of 1) elemental power and 2) so that we can turn him to our side. like… it doesnt really have any connection to his past or even like. okay earlier in the season while lloyd, nya, and zane are trying to steal the other forbidden scroll of spinjitzu (im going to talk about that briefly in a second but we'll hold off on it for a minute) they come across a mirror that shows the onlooker's worst fears - lloyd's is becoming lord garmadon, nya's is failure/never amounting to anything in life, and zane's is losing his humanity. so you'd think that in an arc where zane gets corrupted they'd try it play into that but…. no. because even if the ninjago writers are new, it wouldnt be ninjago if we didn't set up a million concepts that couldve been really interesting if they had been properly explored and then we drop all of that to take the most boring route humanly possible. thank you, ninjago writers.

brief commentary on the forbidden scrolls of spinjitzu: i am SO confused on 1) why the fsm wrote them down. like bestie if you, specifically, are the one who forbade this, WHY ARE YOU WRITING IT DOWN!!!!!!!!! I HATE YOU 2) how sticking them on a staff gives you an incredible amount of power. not even like. reading it or something. doing what it says on the writing. just the concept of holding it gives you power. hello ? 3) why it can banish people to the never realm if used in a certain way. they didnt even try to explain this one at all and im so confused about it. also, if it can banish people to the never realm, why cant it transport people across other realms? many questions, no answers.

ok back to this season's villains: lets talk about SNAKE LADY! in all honesty i dont have that much to say shes kinda a mid villain but at least shes a girlboss so i'll take what i can get. motivations are kind of lacking but whatever. i do really wish the writers would commit on whether or not its valid to be racist to serpentine. as a general rule im very much against demonizing an entire species/race/family as a result of "youre the children of [x] so you are born horrible and anybody who treats you poorly because of that is right" bc it reeks of racism and is incredibly supportive of unfounded prejudice and so on and so forth but like. ok if youre going to do that. the least you can do is STICK WITH IT!!!!!!! its literally like "ohhh the serpentine are evil" "ohhhhh condemning all the serpentine by virtue of their blood is actually kind of racist!" "ohhhhhh wu was so stupid for trusting that snake he shouldve been racist from the start" MAKE UP YOUR MIND. PLEASE. im not asking for much.

i also didnt like how they kind of tried to give zane's power to nya its like. ….. ok look i get it we've all watched atla if you can control water logically you should be able to control ice. HOWEVER. since you have decided that these are two separate elements you need to KEEP it that way because otherwise whats the point of having zane's power if nya is just going to take it. they didnt quite go that far but they were sort of angling for it and i dont like it. please give the women something of their own to do instead of just taking each other's (see: pixal becoming samurai x (actually unrelated but technically shouldnt it be ronin x given that nya/pixal dont serve a feudal master) instead of making up her own thing to do) or taking the men's (whatever the heck was going on this season with nya and ice). but whatever.

b-plots how i miss you... hate hate hate that the 11 minute episode is default now in animation, it works well for some shows (having watched all of SU through - yeah it works, but only really well for shows with very specific scopes, and ninjago is nothing BUT vastly outsizing its own scope)... having just finished rewatching s1 all in one sitting holy crap does the b-plot do so much heavy lifting for making the story actually work. s1 is. a mess. but it genuinely does so much better at foreshadowing than i expected and the ability to juggle multiple plot points in a single episode is SUCH a loss for the later seasons... the netflix season chopper curse my beloathed. nothing else to say there we both know we've experienced vld

yes!!! kudos to the team for fuckin it up even worse than archie sonic i love it to bits. we've got time loops we've got alternate realities we've got immortal(ish) old guys with fucky aging and a kid with even fuckier aging and retconned in hereditary superpowers. we've got every possible "what the fuck thats not how that works-" moment imaginable and it's stunning. everything about wu and garmadon's childhood (if you can call the implied thousands of years where they looked like kids/teenagers that) is fascinating to me and i am thrilled to find out how the spinjitzu brothers books fuck it up even more. the bad luck these guys gotta have for all their positive relationships dying out (humans :() and making all their enemies out of psuedo-immortal weirdos who can hold a hell of a grudge.

tangentially related yess obsessed with the FSM's pioneering fatherly shittiness. first dad worst dad. objectively better than if he was an actively good dad or was genuinely trying to harm his kids this is just what happens when god has zero positive role models. or role models at all. and deals with his complex feelings about his heritage with baby creation. idk the way they handle garmadon's morality is utterly deranged and i love to see them repeatedly shoot themselves in the foot trying to justify him being ~evil all along~ this honestly does more to explain why wu is. like that. than anything about garmadon adjfaksd. all this aside using this entire segment as my ref for my never-to-see-the-light-of-day spinjitzu bros fic thank you for having the wu and garmadon thoughts of all time <3

wu and zane.... i will never get over them. as previously mentioned i just finally finished rewatching s1 with Intent and ohhhh boy do i have infinite emotions over them and while 99% of it is extrapolation it is so incredibly sweet how much wu genuinely cared about zane and his lack of memory and how much he tries to comfort him. meanwhile all of that goes over zane's head bc he is. very bad at understanding his + others emotions at the time and most of the stuff wu is trying to help him with either hasn't registered or zane isnt even close to being able to put words to it much less internalize someone else's attempt to help. all this for wu to disappear on the brother acquisition mission for two weeks and come back to him being Completely Fine And Cool Cuz I'm A Robot Master :D. theres no way wu has any idea what a robot is in s1 and im living for it fuck the retcons. man's bewildered and his pseudo son (mark III) is Overcompensating.

my eternal inability to shut up about zane aside. all that to say wu's eagerness to make Terrible decisions in this part? stunning. the squandered potential of the ice emperor? i could complain about this for weeks. and have done so much to my discord friends chagrin. thank you for validating me AND reminding me to be infuriated. i will go read seven fics about it and have equally strong opinions about those (one day i will write the nature v nurture themed zane fic that lives in my brain and only contribute to this problem). uh. where was i going

Yolanda: Yes, but I don't know... Wren's going through a lot, and with their identity changing, teenage hormones, I don't want to create more unecessary change. Everything Right/Wrong with Ninjago “Legacy of the Green Ninja” E3: Double Trouble

- Intro ✅

- Lloyd is holding that lightbulb way too close to his face. Green Bean’s gonna lose an eye ❌

- “I can’t seem to teach him to control his power!” He’s about to beat up a punching bag because he hit himself in the face with a broom. I don’t think his powers are what he needs to control right now ❌

- “Sometimes the greatest opponent we face is ourselves. That is especially true of Lloyd.” This is a very interesting take on Lloyd’s character and one that not enough people talk about… including the show itself ❌

- “He is the son of Lord Garmadon.” Yeah but Garmadon hasn’t had any place in raising Lloyd yet, so he’s not really the one to blame for Lloyd’s anger problems ❌

- “It’s going to take time for him to embrace the light.” It doesn’t take much time at all, actually. My biggest issue with this season is the fact that they had plenty of episodes to better set up a proper arc and development for Lloyd, but they don’t. Sure, he gets this episode and sort of Child’s Play, but otherwise he’s not that much more focused on than he is in season 1 (in terms of the filler episodes). Sure, a race episode is… well it is there, but give us Lloyd struggling to unlock his powers because he knows he’ll have to use them to hurt his dad, or something like that. A lot of the first half of this season just feels like a missed opportunity. Fluff is fun but I want angst, d*mmit! ❌

- I know showing Kai, Zane, and Cole talking in the background while Jay and Nya talk is supposed to be realistic, but I just find it really distracting, especially since you can hear them whispering ❌

- Isn’t Nya like 15? How did she get a job? ❌

- “They’ve changed to the Darkley’s School for Great Children.” Use of the word “children” implies one of two things: a) the school has opened up to all genders (seems unlikely since all students seem to be boys and there’s no way this show was that progressive considering we’re just now getting pride flags on screen), or b) The writers barely got away with “bad boys” and now “Darkley’s School for Good Boys” would be the censors’ last straw ❌

- “Wait, they’ve turned good?” Yeah yeah, insert joke about astral projecting voices ❌

- “I love ceremonies! That means there’s gonna be cake!” Finally, some realistic representation of asexuals in the media- ✅

- Not enough people acknowledge how hilarious it is to see a warlord h*llbent on destruction organizing a meeting to “brainstorm” ideas to destroy the heroes ✅

- I know making unique character designs is hard with lego, but did every kid really have to look almost exactly the same? I feel like the plot twist shouldn’t be “hey the kids are evil!” but rather “hey, where the h*ll did someone get a cloning machine???” ❌

- “They overthrew us! They’re monsters!” No, just children, which is 100 times worse

- “With friends like you, who needs enemies?” This line makes Lloyd visibly sad and I think we should talk about that more ✅

- Evil Jay, Cole, and Zane go from across the room to behind Kai for no apparent reason ❌

- “Lloyd is not at the amusement park!” Why would he tell them that? ❌

- “Jay, you back yet? Can’t wait to see you at the auto body shop!” What phone plays a voicemail after a missed call, unprompted? ❌

- Also, this was originally supposed to be the MAIN relationship of the show and the ONLY time throughout these 2 seasons that they kiss on the lips is in this moment, where one of them isn’t even the real person! ❌

- “… they’re gonna brainwash Lloyd and undo all the lessons we’ve tried to teach him!” How intelligent and cunning does Kai think this group of 8-10 years olds is? ❌

Favorite Line: Honestly everything out of this kids mouth is funny, but when he kept trying to convince Lloyd and himself that he was only nice to him to get in with his dad was really insightful to his character.

brOTP: Gene. There’s a genuine care between the two and since the school shut down, I like to believe Gene ended up taking charge and taking care of the other students. They definitely probably clash a bit tho

OTP: Lloyd x Brad. Forgiven not only has a good foundation (established friends by the narrative) but thematically could be amazing!! You have the chance to touch up on real issues with systems forgetting the kids and the conflict of Lloyd and Brad coming to terms with how the other changed. Plus the interactions we have seen with them were really sweet 🥺

Unpopular Opinion: The Darkleys is one of the most interesting plot points that the show doesn’t touch up on. If they want to develop Lloyd more, it’s right there. It’s a school that collects all the children of villains on the pretense of raising them to be bad. What classifies as bad? How did they get funding? Is it to prevent “bad” kids from ever growing up to be villains????

Once we’ve started getting much older I've tried dating other girls but none of them just didn’t compare to you. I’ve tried to joke around with them, they wouldn’t take me seriously. It would work my nerves every time she would talk about him and always would ask advice on what to do, but I was very hopeful and believed I still had to chance to win her heart. I gush to everyone including the boys everyday about how madly in love I was with y/n without even realizing.

I would tell everyone, well except her of course. Johnny almost told my secret to everyone at Jaehyun’s house party when we were all playing strip uno. It was shut down real quickly because Doyoung gave him a long hard talk after awhile.

That night was also the worst for me because that was the same days the homecoming game where you confessed your feelings to Mark and became officially a couple. In my mind I wanted to be happy for the two of you as I watched you two kissed each other in front of everyone.

One day I remember running away from these girls in my school because they were trying to throwing apples at me. It was they’re way of trying to help me “eat healthy.” Jokes on them I was the top runner in the track team hehe.

Anyways, I lost them for a good second until I was trapped surrounded by them at the market by my house. I almost felt at lost against the 4 girls, until this crazy guy Lee Donghyuck comes out of no where scaring them away with his Freddy Kruger mask threatening them to leave me alone or he’ll haunt them in their sleep.

I felt bad for laughing, but it was one of the most nicest thing anyone has ever done for me ever since I’ve moved to Korea. He randomly introduces himself to me and offers me to play with him for an exchange of saving my life from those bullies.

“Hey my name is Donghyuck. Those girls always find their next target to pick on, but no worries princess I’m here to protect you. Let me introduce you to my other friends.”

As much as I hate to admit it, but god sometimes Donghyuck can be hot...sexy...hell good looking when he wants to be. It doesn’t help that he’s teasing me about it either.

There was this one time when we were playing Mario Karts in his room and it was on a hot summer day at the time. This guy had the nerve to take his shirt off in front of me with sweat dripping on his abs, hair slightly messy to the side, and leans back with his grey sweat pants on.

GREY SWEATS!! Like cmon. I could barely concentrate on the game after awhile admiring how painly handsome. I felt very guilty because I was still dating Mark at the time, but my mind was going 2 different directions.

“Hey y/n if your hot you can take your shirt off too. I thought my mom had the mechanic fixed the ac by now so sorry about that.” There he goes sticking his tongue out like that again. Does he have no shame.

“Umm, Hyuck I just remembered I have a test on Friday to study for. Tootles!” I knew if I would’ve stayed in his room much longer I would’ve either passed out or sink deep into his tempting body leaning against mine. It was not only the heat in the room that was driving me crazy, but my beating heart that was burning my chest.

Before I tried to leave he shut the door and pushed me against the wall staring deep into my eyes. “You know princess, we don’t have a math test Friday right? I’m in the same class as you.”

This man uggh, next he proceeds to make me look at him in the eye by lifting my chin up. “D-did I say math test, silly me. I meant biology test.” After laughing awkwardly for a while I realized he wasn’t laughing with me like he usually does. It was like the vibe changed in a matter of 5 sec.

“Listen y/n...I know your dating Mark and all, but would it be wrong to just let me hold you one last time.” Yeah it would be awful, especially when your still technically half naked in front of me.

I’ve never even gotten close to kissing Mark before, yet my friend of 6 years is going to do it. So I had to run out of there before things got worse. “I-I can’t do that Hyuck. You know that wouldn’t be right. Now if you’ll excuse me.”

“I'm thinking that one day you'll be mine. And I don't wanna lose you.”

I ran home as fast as I can hyperventilating before I let myself caught any feelings. The truth was for awhile I only wanted to date Mark to try to forget about Hyuck, but after that night I’ve started to realize that I can’t escape my feelings that I have for him it’s impossible.

I love him more than anyone in this world. The thought of that saying had me laughing and crying that night.

June 26th, the day Donghyuck will have one last chance to confess his feelings before his princess y/n leaves off to go to school. Y/N and Donghyuck both run out of each other’s house and decided to meet up at the swing set after 6 years.

They both sit down sighing looking up at the orange sunset sky that’s shinning throughout the area. The two of them slowly swing looking down at the ground waiting for the other person to speak up first.

“So...I bet you probably heard the news already huh? I’ve finally got accept to Harvard. So tomorrow I’ll be going back to my hometown to begin my semester in fall.” Donghyuck responds back by saying.

“I know, I heard from my mom. She nearly cried. You know it would’ve been nice to hear from you. I haven’t seen you since last week.” Y/n finally looks up at him with tears falling down her face.

“Hyuck I’ve been going through so much this past week. I’ve broken up with Mark, my brother was stuck in the hospital and I almost had to repeat senior year if I didn’t pass that state test. So I’m sorry I didn’t contact you lately.”

Hyuck quickly stands up and hugs y/n gently by stroking her hair. “It would’ve been nice to hear your voice. I miss you and I love you.”

They both freeze up at the words he just said “Y-you what now?” Hyuck gulps at first, but then he snaps out of it ready to pour his heart out.”

“LISTEN PRINCESS I LOVE YOU OKAY?? Not just as a friend either. This whole year I never got to hang out with you and I don't know how to pretend, I hate falling in love with my best friend. That night you left my room I almost gave up on us, but I knew I had to tell you before you walk out of my life. Talk about bad timing right?”

Y/N starts giggling wiping her tears for a split second but then smiles by saying.

“I love you too Donghyuck. I have for a long time actually I just didn’t want to ruin my one and only specially friendship I had with you. I was even thinking that trying to move on by dating someone else would work, but it didn’t. Without you in my life, I am blue as the sky.”

The two of you of crack up laughing again at your embarrassing thoughts of each other, but immediately stop trying to think of what should happen next.

“We’re truly some idiots. Now we only have a few hours left of being a couple before you leave. So what happens next y/n?”

Y/n sits on Hyuck’s lap hugging him tightly and leans into his face by saying. “No worries we’ll figure this out once I move. For right now let’s just enjoy our last few hours together as a couple.”

Hyuck wraps arms around y/n waist and feels his heart skipping a beat once she starts kissing him softly in his ear. “Princess you know I’m very ticklish right there.” Ignoring his comments y/n proceeds to kiss his ear again, but then starts trailing down to his neck.

“My B-E-S-T, a true friend to me. Give me love and energy, that is what you send to me”

“Mmm keep calling me princess and I promise you I won’t be able to hold back.” He wiggles his eyebrows at your bold response and smirks by saying...

“Well what’s stoping you? We can do it right here right now on these swing sets.” He starts sliding your hands in your thighs while finally kissing you on your lips.

All that built up passion and emotion was easily displayed as you were kissing him. Not to mention the fact that he’s sliding his hand in your jeans which is making it hard for you to keep your voice down.

“Ahh keep it down y/n...Do you want the neighbors to hear you?” He teases you more by moving your hand in his jeans. “Do it for me too.”

“Lee Donghyuck, are you crazy?? Why don’t we just do this in your room. We will get caught for sure.” He pouts for a second and says

“Yes I’m crazy for you. You already know this though. How about this, we can finish this in my room and we can just tell my mom we stayed up playing games again all night long. Deal?”

“Deal!” You give him one last peck on the lips and grab him by running into his house like there’s no tomorrow. “Slow down princess!” The two of you slammed the door in his room and for the whole night you never dared to leave his side for a split second.

“It's what you do to me.”

The morning after ended up becoming very emotional for the both of you, because this is the last the you’ll be seeing each other face to face until the both of you are done with school. While he’s off becoming a singer, you’ll be on your way becoming a lawyer.

Out of all the places you could possibly move away from again your home next to Donghyuck and his family was the hardest to leave from. You made so many memories here and would cherish it for the rest of your life.

Before heading the road you give your best friend and now boyfriend one last hug and kiss on the forehead before putting your last luggage in the trunk and hitting the road to start your journey.

Although your both moving on to different paths of life career wise, you both will always have your history together and promised to reunite as a couple again when the time is right.

Finally Nya's season! Our queen, our water goddess, our amazing girl gets what she deserves! 😍😍😍

What I know about the season beforehand is that Nya's powers apparently are getting problematic for some reasons? Which is a pretty common topic in other shows but it's a first in Ninjago, usually the elemental powers don't have focus and I LOVE that we now get to see stuff like that 💕💕💕

I know there should be Wojira involved, trusting The Island to deliver that little foreshadowing at the end of the episode 🤷‍♀️ Also Maya is back... MAYA IS FINALLY BACK AFTER SEVEN SEASONS YES!!! 😭😭😭

I have nothing else to say, I have no idea what this will bring, hopefully something as good as Master of the Mountain! 🖤

Warning reader, I might be fangirling to an extreme because I love mah girl Nya and I've been wanting Kai and Nya's parents to be back ever since Hands of Time ended. So yeah... screaming alert 😅

At this point I don't doubt that the intro is great, we reached such a level of animation and we got The Fold 😍😍 Love the marine vibe and how it's similar to The Island, because it's a great intro 👌

NOW I like the writing! Maybe they rushed the dialogue's quality for The Island to get here? It's just fun and in character, maybe it's just me but I'm enjoying it a lot for now

How many episodes are in this? Wiki says ten, then I checked again and it's sixteen like with Master of Mountain... eh, it looks good so far so it's fine whatever happens 🤷‍♀️

"You're getting slower." Clouse remarked as he set down a bucket of fish— which he and Garmadon had caught from the nearby river for dinner that night— on the kitchen island, wringing the river water out of his hair onto the floor.

"Being kept up all night by a four year old," Garmadon yawned as he followed Clouse into the kitchen, stretching his arms above his head, "Will do that to you, you know."

"More like a lack of training." Clouse remarked, rolling his eyes and beginning to get straight to work on washing and preparing the fish from the bucket. Garmadon offered a light snicker, walking toward the counter to begin setting up the cutting boards and knives the two would need.

Things had died down in the last few years, nobody in the Garmadon or Chen family's backs since a few months after Lloyd had been born. It had been nice to live quietly, and relatively comfortably, in the middle of nowhere— no bustling big city and no nosy neighbors to pry in on dark magic use or one of the household member's hands becoming more Oni-like by the day; nobody to criticize the patriarch's nonsensical traps around the house or to send building-code violations to the city about them all. The only real struggle was dealing with two growing children who were getting more and more antsy about being cooped up in the monastery day after day.

"Ohh, salmon!" A tiny voice remarked, followed by the sound of quick steps into the kitchen. Garmadon turned his attention to see Skylor peering up at the bucket of fish on the island, a grin on his face.

"And plenty of it, too." He proudly remarked, stabbing his knife into the cutting board before walking over to Skylor, hoisting her up in his arms so she could get a better look at the fish, "You want to help your Uncle Clouse wash them?" He remarked, earning a scoff from Clouse as he dropped one of the fish into the sink.

"No, he says I can’t clean the gills right. I’m better at helping de-bone." Skylor said after a moment of thought, studying the fish in the bucket, "It's more fun to do that, anyway! Fish are covered in— slime and stuff!"

"Mucus." Clouse corrected as he began to scrub away at the mucus on the salmon in his hands.

"Yeah, slime." Garmadon nodded with a grin, Skylor giggling to herself as Clouse turned around, holding the salmon by the tail with his eyebrow raised.

"Slime and mucus are two vastly different things," He said with a sneer, "Slime is slippery, and usually only produced by things like algae or plants--" He continued as he slapped the fish down onto his cutting board, Skylor and Garmadon exchanging amused looks, "Mucus, on the other hand, is sticky, and usually produced to keep skin moisturized where it usually wouldn’t be—"

Skylor raised her hand, Garmadon then nodding to her with a serious expression, "Skylor has a question."

"But fish are... In the water all the time, so are frogs, why would they need to be covered in slime?"

"Mucus, my dear," Clouse corrected again as he drew his knife, beginning to prepare the fish, "You know how your fingers get pruned when you’re in the water too long, and you’re itchy afterward? Water is wet, but it takes the moisture from your skin if you’re in it too long. We don’t make mucus all over our bodies, so we have things like... Lotion, and moisturizer. To help."

"You read a lot." Garmadon remarked after a moment, Skylor snorting and covering her mouth as she giggled. Clouse only turned to glare at Garmadon before returning to the fish.

"Someone here ought to. You would all be lost without me." He hummed, Garmadon mimicking him behind his back, much to the amusement of Skylor.

"Lost, but having fun!" Garmadon quipped with a charming smile, "Like calling mucus slime, how it ought to be called."

At this point Skylor broke out into laughter, Clouse driving his knife into the cutting board before turning around to begin lecturing Garmadon on the difference between slime and mucus in detail, which only caused Skylor to begin laughing even harder.

But suddenly, Garmadon felt something cold— /very/ cold, a familiar cold in his arms. Before he could glance down, the bucket containing the rest of the fish— the metal bucket— shattered like glass all over the island, leaving behind thin purple smoke and a cold aura. And just like that, the laughter and conversation stopped, and the cold disappeared from what was being held in Garmadon's arms.

Clouse's first instinct was to look to Garmadon, but Garmadon cut him off before he could speak. "That wasn't me. I’d know if that was me. Id be able to—" He shook his head before looking down at Skylor, who looked more bewildered than the both of them. She was flexing her tiny hands in confusion— before she began to look fearful, turning her head to look between the others for answers.

"... I... I see." Was all Clouse said after a moment, quickly scanning both Skylor and Garmadon to see if any of the metal had hit them. After confirming they were clear, he nodded, looking... A bit dazed, if anything. "I'll go get Master Chen— and Misako." He said after another moment, shaking his hands as if they had water on them before ducking out of the room.

"What... Did I do that? Was that...?" Skylor began, Garmadon shuffling away from the metal... Shards on the ground and island.

"We... I..." Garmadon searched for words, but found he had none. "Your father can... Do you remember what your father said about me, me and your mother, being elementals?"

"... Kind'of...?"

"How we told you about your mom's power? How she could copy anyone’s power she touched?" Garmadon looked toward her, a bit lost on what to do. He’d never had to give a child a serious talk before, he was still new to the whole 'dad' thing himself. He felt awkward.

"Can... Can I do that?"
