A Los Angeles judge has granted a restraining order to “The Little Mermaid” actor and singer Halle Bailey, who says her ex-boyfriend, the rapper and YouTuber DDG, has been repeatedly violent with her and she fears for herself and the baby they have together.

The judge on Tuesday ordered DDG, whose legal name is Darryl Dwayne Granberry Jr., to stay away from Bailey and their 17-month-old son, Halo, until a June 6 hearing.

“Throughout our relationship,” Bailey said in documents requesting the order, “Daryl has been and continues to be physically, verbally, emotionally, and financially abusive towards me. I am seeking orders to protect myself and our son Halo from his ongoing abuse.”

It's starting to feel like "female solidarity", "girl's girl", and "believe women" aren't real concepts anymore. So many women promote it but we RARELY see it in action. Megan Thee Stallion is constantly being reminded of her trauma yet none of her peers speak up to defend her but will publically fangirl over abusers. I've seen people say her peers aren't obligated to stand with her but it's like these same people feel obligated to coddle Chris Brown, R. Kelly, Drake, etc. It's no surprise men will support men no matter what but when there is obvious wrong doing being done to a black woman, other black women are silent. It feels like we're going backwards.

Hmm. I just noticed something odd: It seems like DuckDuckGo is utilizing AI Summaries for web results, and they don't allow you to turn this off.

In their "AI Features" settings tab, you can only toggle their AI Chat and their AI Quick Answers that occasionally pop up. There is ZERO mention of this feature, despite it being pretty clear (to me anyway) that they're using some type of neural computing to create those result summaries. (Hence the difference in descriptions for the #1 result with and without "fuck" added.)

Maybe something else is going on that I'm not aware of or don't understand, but it's certainly a disappointing amount of non-transparency from DuckDuckGo when they're trying to build a privacy-focused and trustworthy brand identity.

very unfortunate (and unfortunately not surprising) that ddg was abusing halle. from allowing his fans to constantly harass and body shame her, to him running a smear campaign about her with false allegations about her being with a man during mother’s day weekend when she was literally with her sister and son, to learning that he snuck into her house when she wasn’t there and smashed her face against the steering wheel so hard that it chipped her tooth i’m glad she was granted that restraining order against him. he deserves to be in jail and so much more.

So the next two Gerald R. Ford Class aircraft carriers will be named USS WILLIAM J. CLINTON (CVN-82) and USS GEORGE W. BUSH (CVN-83) was announced by President Biden.

Honestly, it's disappointing to see yet another carrier named after a politician. I was hoping for another Lexington, Saratoga, Midway or something other than a president or politician but I guess that's what we're left with these days.

The next Columbia class submarine will be named USS GROTON (SSBN-828), bucking the trend for ballistic missile submarines named after states or districts.

You’ve heard of the browser wars....

I just recently made a long-overdue defection in the search engine wars, and I’m entirely pleased with it. 

You know how shitty Google results are when you need some fairly niche information that won’t be in a Wikipedia article, mainstream news, or some shitty celebrity gossip outlet, these days?

DuckDuckGo has cleared my skin, watered my crops, etc.  I was kind of ambiently glad it existed for a long time, but was like “well, privacy good, but my infosec practices are already sketchy at best, and google’s been doing this for a long-ass time; they’re probably better at it, so why bother.”  But no, my friends, google is better at something but these days that something is delivering clickbait to your fucking eyeballs.

I was frustrated with a very specific science question the other day and getting absolutely fucking nowhere with google, swapped over to duckduckgo on a curious whim, and it... didn’t get me exactly what I needed immediately, but it did give MUCH more relevant search results than google did.  And that’s, well, because enshittification.  Maybe someday, duckduckgo will also live to see itself become the villain, but for right now, it’s fucking useful, and it is now my default search engine on every device I use (and also every work computer i have reason to touch).
