Someone pointed out why Harry's ghosts was changing the outfit ( the last scene that he holds Alice and whispered to her ears "don't leave me ") and I think it's actually good question sksk. jackie died in suit I gusess, and Alic escaped to save her life. apparently there was a scene that was a reference to this context of outfit but they cut it off so that's why it came across confusing lmao
Hi anon!
I would so love to chat to you about this, but I’m having trouble finding time to watch the movie. I’ll make a post about my thoughts when I have, and I’ll make sure to look for what you’ve sent me in your ask.
Did you like the movie as a whole?

Do you have a fan name for Quackerjack’s civilian identity?
I don’t have a last name for him, honestly, but QuackerJack’s real name would absolutely be Jack.
He definitely named the mascot for his company after himself.
Maybe it’s just Jack Quack; yeah know, like Jack Black? No? Alright…

Just a few more moments with Villain!Reader and 1991 Darkwing Duck (Based from a video titled "Did a little trolling" by Jehtt):
*In a prison where Villain!Reader was arrested in*
Villain!Reader: Man, **** the police
Darkwing duck: *whispering* y/n I'm here
Villain!Reader: Huh? Darkwing?
Darkwing duck: *whispering* Shhh! I'm busting you out
Villain!Reader: Finally! I hate this place
Darkwing duck: I can't believe you're still here, didn't SHUSH realize they got the wrong guy?
Villain!Reader: Well, once I decided to go out in the public a SHUSH agent took me to the police and started charging me for a bunch of crimes
Villain!Reader: destruction of property, vandalism, disorderly conduct...
Darkwing duck: Wow thats-
Villain!Reader: Extreme negligence, reckless evading...
Darkwing duck: Thats a lot of-
Villain!Reader: Assault, 3rd-degree manslaughter, parking illegally, 2nd degree manslaughter...
Darkwing duck: Wow, I can't believe you were framed for all of that
Villain!Reader: Framed??
Darkwing duck: Yeah, you were framed by Megabolt. Right?
Villain!Reader: ....
Darkwing duck: Don't tell me you actually did all those things
Villain!Reader: I...didn't park illegally
Headcanon that Darkwing duck would try and reason with SHUSH that you are innocent and just need a bit of guidance to the path of righteousness. And if you were ever thrown into jail Darkwing will either help you escape and suggest hiding in his headquarters or pay off whatever price as Drake Mallard, lying to the police that you're a close relative of his.
:] Anon
"I...didn't park illegally." - Brilliant. Set them free.
Launchpad isn't sure how to feel about having a villain live in the headquarters, but Drake assures him the villain is simply misguided and deserves a second chance.
Gosalyn is completely against it from the start and accuses the villain of playing with her dad's emotions.

I don’t mean to be a Debbie downer, but I keep seeing people celebrate DWD being “a flop” and Olivia not getting paid that much, and I feel the need to correct this notion bc people are gonna be disappointed when this sort of thing keeps happening (her getting hired, Harry used to stunt). Because the truth is the controversy and the stunt paid off big time.
35m is the extended budget for production. Including marketing costs worldwide, AT MOST the movie doubled its budget. WB is virtually broke and the promo for this movie was extremely lean. We are all very embedded into every single thing that’s happening so I understand thinking the promotion was big, but it really really wasn’t. There were some ads scattered around on TV, which weren’t on prime time so they’re not that costly, some social media ads, some billboards. Obviously marketing includes trailers and everything they involve, plus the first line of actors involved in promotion often get paid for their presence (unless stipulated in their initial contract but unless it’s a tent pole that’s rare, acting is a flat rate and then promo goes above it, cause it can fluctuate according to context). Flo had minimal involvement and aside from Harry, she was the highest profile. Harry probably got paid good bucks for flying all the way to Venice and stuff but he also did very little. Chris and Gemma did less than Harry. The only actors who did a little bit more promo were Nick Kroll and Kate Berlant, and their budget was probably minimal. Olivia handled the heavy load so she either got a huge check for that or she didn’t because she’s waiting for her payday on another front, either way she wins in that regard.
You don’t pay for showing in festivals, and other than that you have the NYC premiere which was very lean, and a couple of q&a which were also very lean and required minimal organization. You also don’t pay shows and magazines for interviews (it’s against regulations), though the studio can be charged for the cost of the person being interviewed traveling + accommodations + team to get them ready and whatever they have to wear, etc. But in the grand scheme of things, of millions, this amounts to very little.
I’d be super surprised if the entire budget for production WW crossed 20m. I’m leaning more towards 15, but since it’s harder for me to estimate costs in Europe and Australia, I’ll stretch it to 20.
That leaves the entire budget at 55m. You can even round it up to 60m and the profit of this movie is still above 20m, which is A LOT for a thriller released in September, especially one that’s not an IP. That’s MAJOR. Not only are we seeing a lot of movies absolutely flop at the box office (Woman King is faring a lot worse, for instance, Amsterdam has got to be one of the biggest miscalculations I’ve seen in recent years), but also, in general, marketing costs are so high that the profit is truly minimal. DWD is a rare beast that coasted on its controversy, most movies get A TON more promo.
Take Dunkirk for example. Its budget is presented as 100-150m, that’s a big gap, lol, but let’s go with it. Box office was 527m it sounds like a resounding success – and it is! But it’s not as big as those isolated numbers would make it look. Dunkirk is one of those movies that truly doubled its budget in promo. It had 3 premieres (one of them shutting down Leicester Square), long winded press junkets (you have to hire catering and staff plus the venue). It had a stellar cast that fully participated in its promo. It had A TON of ads that ran in prime time worldwide (including China!). It had whole ass buildings painted. On the low end, the movie cost 200m and on the high end it cost 300m, which dwarves the profit from a perceived $427m to a much more modest $327m or even $227m, and the truth most likely lies somewhere in the middle.
From what I heard, Harry got paid a flat fee + a % from box office and it’s likely the whole cast of big names had the same deal, which is a lot of % to shave off profit as well. All in all, the movie probs ended making about 85% to 90% of its budget. And this is a Christopher Nolan high profile movie released in the summer with a stellar cast and PG-13. DWD made around 40-45% (so far), for a fall movie with a small budget, a second time director and R rated… that’s FANTASTIC. I truly can’t imagine anyone expected more money from this movie. And I’m not saying this with glee, I truly hate that woman, but as many hits as she took in terms of her reputation and personal life, she didn’t take a financial one, and maybe for someone like her that’s enough.
(For the record I work in this specific area and I’m not talking out of my ass).
Also, you have to remember that they’re now selling and renting the movie on VOD, that it’ll go on streaming soon, that they sold vinyls, and there’ll likely be DVDs and Blu-Rays. The studio is probably foaming at the mouth at the amount of money they made, truly the only winners (and they needed the win after the year they had).
Hi love. Thank you for sharing all of your insight. This is super interesting.
There are a couple of things I have a question about. I get what you’re saying about about the promo being “lean”, but while they may not have bought the most expensive ad space, did you not feel that the amount of promo was excessive? Multiple trailers, posters all over the place, Social media ads, bus ads, the endless paparazzi, etc. It felt like such overkill and that so many people were sick of hearing about it before it opened. In contrast, I barely heard or saw a thing about WB’s other movie, Black Adam.
And what people had said previously on this subject is that theaters take 50% of the box office, so if the movie cost $60M including promo, the box office would have to be $120M in order to break even. Is that not actually true?
I think there are many people saying it’s a flop, and from my POV there are different angles to look at. For me, it’s a flop because it was initially expected to do huge numbers, there was talk of it getting Oscar nominations, her reputation as a director seemed to be riding on this film doing well—not just financially, but critically, as well. Absolutely none of that happened.
But I do totally get what you’re saying about the genre, the initial budget, the amount it’s made so far etc. all being very big wins in terms of how the movie studio views it.

Launchdad? 🤨 🎤

LAUNCHDAD 💪
thanks for the ask! i had this sketch lying around so the timing is perfect.
launchpad and gos’ dynamic is so incredibly important to me. her rambunctious, rebellious spirit and endless energy paired with launchpad’s bottomless positivity and chill aura is so perfect. he’s the most supportive, sweetest father figure she could possibly have. i love how in the show she has no apprehensions about coming to him with anything, and always feels safe with him. it’s how things should be, and a nice change of pace next to drake’s short temper.
one of my favorite scenes in the whole show is in the alien queen one near the beginning when they’re all three on a road trip, and gosalyn turns her home camera to launchpad and says “show us your true self!” iirc and he takes his hands off the steering wheel to make a silly face at her LAWLLLL the dad humor with launchpad is strong. not to mention drake’s immediate chastising him to keep his eyes on the road. they are so married <3
i just love how playful launchpad is with her, yet he always takes her seriously and talks to her on her level. he not only cares for her more than anything but respects her and is always honest with her, which is earning some serious parenting points in my book.
he’s already cultivated such a healthy relationship with her and provided so much security for her before she even calls him “dad”, which i’m almost certain she’s never done in canon. but, i can easily see her doing so by mistake and quickly correcting herself, only to leave launchpad a sobbing heap of overwhelming pride and joy at the title <3
launchpad playing mediator between drake and gos is also so important to me. drake loves her to death, there’s not a doubt. and i know he wants to be the best parent he possibly can for her, but what he lacks in emotional presence he makes up for in over-protectiveness. and i LOVE that we see growth and change in the show, and he is learning more every day! but let’s face it, launchpad is infinitely more approachable.
i think drake sees so much of himself in gos that it’s sometimes hard for him to take a step back and analyze things cooly. like, he was bullied for being a geeky wimp. gos snarls at anyone who implies she isn’t at least as tough as nails. drake had to learn to make it on his own and defend himself when he had no support. gosalyn has had to say goodbye to everyone closest in her life. drake overcompensates for his fragile ego and seeks attention wherever he can find it because he NEEDS to prove he’s the best at everything all the time in order to be worthy. everything gosalyn does when she’s ‘acting out’ is either to earn some kind of respect from drake or to rebel in a search for some relief. drake had no support so he builds four walls and a roof around gosalyn so she never has to be alone, ever.
launchpad stands in the doorway of that box with a smile and a warm hug locked and loaded, because he also knows what it’s like to be alone. can we just. talk about how isolating it is to be so kind? just for a minute. can we talk about how launchpad isn’t capable of giving any less than his all. he pours everything he has into everyone he meets because he also knows how much it hurts to be left, and he doesn’t ever want to be the reason anyone feels that sting. he greets everyone with his signature 100 watt smile that only flickers at the threat of harm done to those he cares for, and provides an immovable rock of support at all times. do you ever wonder why he has exes all over the world yet lived alone in a hangar before meeting drake? do you ever wonder if it was his incessant positivity that pushed people away or his determination to not be a burden ultimately leading to an emotional divide unsurpassable by a well hidden vulnerable side, ironically buried beneath all of this sincerity? do you ever wonder how heavy that heart on his sleeve is?
hey. hey anon whyd you have to give me this prompt /silly

I also have this other thought if the public ever does find out Darkwing is fond of a villain aka reader. He would get so much backlash that Gosalyn and Launchpad would worry about how Drake is handling the situation.
Meanwhile in the Lair where Villain!Reader was recently confined in:
Darkwing Duck: The ending of the movie could've been done better, what do you think y/n?
Villain!Reader: Aside from being chained up and hidden away from society, I think the ending to the movie was decent.
:] Anon
Negaduck taunts Darkwing about "dancing on the dark side" and committing the villainous act of abducting the reader.
Darkwing makes false claims that the reader is reforming in an attempt to defend his actions, but in truth, they are growing more wicked in captivity and now have a grudge against him.

I want to see the other wax figures they did for Harry. Which city got the best wax figure. And poor Ed's new wax figure looks just sad. No other way to put it. This one Harry looks like he could be in Zoolander and that's okay.
these are the 6 new ones they’ve made

I can definitely see the Golden Globes nominating Harry’s song for DWD. Especially following all of the controversy the HFPA has had and the GG’s airing again after last year. They’re going to try and get the best ratings they’ve gotten in years. And what better way to have folks tuning in than than to have the people involved in what’s become The Hottest Gossip Stories of 2022 attend? Also, while I don’t think Florence will be nominated for DWD, it’s very possible that she’ll be nominated for a different project. The DRAMA of it all! 🙄 As far as other awards are concerned, the Critics Choice Awards has become a good barometer for what will end up being nominated for an Oscar. I think DWD will be completely shut out there. I also think the SAGs are out. There is absolutely no way OW is going to get an Oscar nom for directing or be recognized by the DGA. There are way too many heavy hitters in that category this year for that to happen. I also don’t think she’s going to get a supporting acting nomination, but I’m sure she feels like she deserves one, especially since she cut the film to afford her the opportunity to campaign for it. We’ll see if anything she’s throwing at the wall actually sticks. The GG nominations will be announced on December 12, so we won’t have very long to wait on that one.
Ooh, I actually CANNOT see the song getting nominated or winning anything. It’s barely a song to start. Very pretty melody but the lyrics are nearly non-existent and the version that was released on Spotify didn’t sound well produced at all. I think my comment at the time was that it sounded like voice notes Harry and Florence recorded separately that were slapped together for the sake of having an “original song by Harry Styles” on the soundtrack. Never say never but it doesn’t seem likely.
If it did get nominated though…hmm. I’m going back and forth on whether they would be ratings gold or if people have moved on. Most of the comments I saw after the Nanny Salad Dressing stupidity ranged from “who cares?” to “them again? 🙄” I saw this reaction on George Takei’s IG of all places. He reposted a salad dressing article and the comments could not have been more uninterested. 😆 That’s probably a good marker for where the general public lies. Don’t think you could get as far removed as George Takei, haha. But even the TMZ comments seemed to echo that on their recent Olivia posts. There’s only so much manufactured drama people will allow before they get tired of it and scroll past.
Oh and thank you for reminding me of the SAG and Critic’s Choice Awards! All good indicators for sure. I don’t see Critics being kind, they seem to dislike Olivia now (relatable) and are happy to call her out. The SAGs will maaaybbbeeee be kind to Florence and Chris Pine. But Florence does have The Wonder so if anything, it’s almost certain she’ll her efforts there. She has no reason to backtrack and hold up DWD for a statue just so Olivia can add “Oscar nominated” to the DWD packaging.
Thank god we’ll get those GG nominations soon. Everyone is beyond ready to move past this.
