Spent the afternoon in Malibu and attended a book signing and discussion about creativity between my friend @benhwintersauthor (author of BIG TIME and UNDERGROUND AIRLINES, both of which you should read!) and the TV icon of my youth, @davidduchovny who has made his mark in TV, film, songwriting, podcasting, novel writing, and in earning the love of Dana Scully. Noble pursuits, all.
It was a great and wide-ranging conversation about all the valuable ways to keep creativity alive.

In the name of the Father, the Skeptic and the Son
Episodes: One Son/ Two Fathers
Dana Katherine Scully doesn't take overt disrespect and then just continue on with her work. Also Mulder needed a reason why he was being so short with the woman he loves... The titles are Alanis Morissette Lyrics from Jagged Little Pill. I feel like its relevant to this sitch.
Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, Part 4, Part 5, Part 6, Epilogue
Chapter 1: We had to believe in something, so we did
The lone gunman give Mulder a piece of their minds for being so rude to Scully.
(LONE GUNMAN office. There is a buzz at the door. FROHIKE goes to the door and unlocks all eight locks and opens the door for MULDER.) MULDER: The latest in home security. FROHIKE: Hey, you get through this, you got to come through me. MULDER: I got a call from Scully. Said it was urgent. (MULDER enters the office. All three GUNMEN are present and also SCULLY in a fetching black turtleneck ensemble.) SCULLY: I'll ask you to hear me out before you launch any objection. Mulder, I asked them to pull up everything they could on Diana Fowley. MULDER: (sigh) I don't have time for this. SCULLY: Mulder, she's playing you for a fool. MULDER: I know her, Scully. You don't. SCULLY: You knew her. You don't anymore. I think we can prove that to you. BYERS: She took a position in the FBI's foreign counter-terrorism unit in 1991. Seven years in Europe. SCULLY: Yet there isn't a single piece of information available on her activities in the FBI files. MULDER: (gives a sarcastic melodramatic gasp) I hope you've got something more than that to indict her with. SCULLY: Travel records pulled from airline manifests that had been purged from her FBI records. Extensive movement throughout Western Europe. Almost weekly trips to and from Tunisia. MULDER: For the purpose of what? LANGLY: That's what we couldn't figure until we took a flyer and we found this. FROHIKE: Mutual UFO network logs. MULDER: MUFON. SCULLY: Special Agent Diana Fowley of the FBI was visiting every European chapter collecting data on female abductees. MULDER: So she's collecting data. Big deal. SCULLY: Or hiding it. MULDER: Scully, you're reaching. SCULLY: Mulder, when I was abducted a chip was put in my neck. When I happened upon a MUFON group filled with women who'd had the same experience. MULDER: So you're suggesting that Diana is monitoring these abductees? Monitoring these tests? SCULLY: You tell me that Cassandra Spender is the critical test subject - the one who could prove everything. And yet, who is watching over her? Mulder, I can prove what you're saying or I can disprove it but not when Diana Fowley is keeping us from even seeing her. Mulder, ask yourself why there is no information whatsoever on Special Agent Diana Fowley. Why she would suddenly happen into your life when you are closer than ever to the truth. I mean, you... you ask me to trust no one and yet you trust her on simple faith. MULDER: Because you've given me no reason here to do otherwise. (Long Pause.) SCULLY: Well, then I can't help you anymore. MULDER: Scully, you're making this personal. SCULLY: Because it is personal, Mulder. Because without the FBI personal interest is all that I have. And if you take that away then there is no reason for me to continue. (MULDER watches her as she walks past him and out of the office.)
Byers was looking at Mulder mouth open slightly.
Langly said “Geez” under his breath
“Of all the idiotic things I’ve ever said to a women, that certainly tops any of it.” Frohike said grimly.
“All right, thats enough out of the three stooges.” Mulder said impatiently.
“You were so mean to her, and all she wants to do is to protect you.” Byers said in disbelief.
Mulder made towards the door.
“Scully is a hundred times the woman Diana is.” Langly added
“Whats the hold she has over you that you’re risking everything you have with Agent Scully?” Frohike said
 “Yeah. What gives?” Byers said
Mulder stopped and turned to them.
“I have a history with Diana. She’s my friend. I can’t just throw that away because Scully doesn’t like her. It wouldn’t be fair.”
Life isn’t fair. But the woman you love just walked because she thinks you’re the one being unfair.” Frohike said
Mulder scoffed “Love?”
“Oh lets not hide behind pretense here. Its so obvious, its a wonder you two haven’t figured it out yet.” Byers said.
Mulder rubbed his forehead at this fighting with himself about what he was about to say.
“Did you tell her? Did you tell her we...” He stopped himself looking up at them. He couldn't say it out loud.
They all looked surprised, Frohike looked indignant.
“Of course not.” He answered.
Relief flooded him in a way that made him uncomfortably aware he was relieved.
“We wouldn’t do that to her.” Byers said.
“Besides we agree with Scully on this one.” Langley said
“I guess you have to ask yourself if you value your idea of what the truth is, over Agent Scully’s feelings” Byers said.
“It would be nice if she trusted me.” Mulder said
“She does trust you. She doesn’t trust Diana.” Byers said
Mulder pondered this and didn’t respond.
“We sure don’t.” Frohike said
She’s dirty Mulder. Nobody comes up that clean in one of our searches unless something sinister is at work” Langly said.
“I just don’t get this need to be right, when you’re so obviously wrong.” Byers said
He started toward the door. “Of course you’d side with the pretty lady.” Mulder said exasperated
Thats not why. But the beatiful agent Scully is a good friend to us. And…” Frohike said
“She gives me advice on you know, girls” Byers said
“She calls me on my birthday” Langly said
“Mine too” Byers said
“Mine three” Frohike said
“You’ve never called us on our birthdays.” Langley said.
“I just figured you three sprouted fully formed from alien larva.” He didn’t look in their direction, pulled open the door and left after Scully.

He sat in his car and head leaned against the steering wheel. Scully’s words ran through his head.
It is personal. Without the FBI personal interest is all that I have.  I can't help you anymore. There is no reason for me to continue.
Panic was setting in now. He’d stood up for his principles and for Diana. Thoroughly exasperated with Scully, for not trusting him, not trusting his judgement on a personal matter. They’d become so much closer than they ever had been and she was acting like he was going to run away with Diana or something. At the same time, she’d just admitted to things he was exhilarated and shocked to hear. He’d known they were close, known he loved her, known he liked being her partner. But she’d never talked about the personal side of their partnership. Never made it known she felt like without it, she’d feel the same way he did. That she couldn't continue the work without him.
He punched the steering wheel and the car honked. A elderly woman, crossing the street in front of his car, with a bunch of grocery bags in her hands jumped and stumbled back.
He put his hands up to the windshield and yelled “I’m sorry! Sorry ma’am! It was an accident.”
She gave him a dirty look and recovered her dignity before stalking off.
He massaged his aching hand and cursed his frustration under his breath. He didn’t want to lose her. Was his loyalty to Diana worth losing Scully? The answer was of course no. He’d never had a partnership or friendship with anyone like he had with her. Nothing he’d had with Diana came close, and they had been… close. He loved Scully. More than he'd ever loved anyone. He was in love with her. Hopelessly. Maybe that was why this theory of hers stung so badly. It was fine for her to shoot him down at work, but this was about a friend. And she didn't trust his judgement. But she could be so stubborn sometimes. Even when there had been a mole in the FBI. Even on her deathbed as she was offering to sacrifice herself for his reputation. She’d been so quick to suspect the only person it seemed they could trust within the FBI. But Skinner hadn’t been the mole. Mulder had been right to go with his gut and not the evidence.
He looked up absentmindedly staring out of the windshield. Evidence. He could get evidence. And he knew three people who could get him Diana’s exact address. He got back out of his car and walked back to where he’d come from.

A British-Mexican man who says he was targeted for being gay and arrested on false drug charges in Qatar has been given a suspended six-month jail sentence, a fine amounting to about $2,700, and a deportation order by a court in the Arab nation, which is a vital U.S. ally in the Middle East, according to his family and Mexican officials.
In a statement shared with media outlets by his family, dual British-Mexican national Manuel Guerrero Aviña said he was "deeply disappointed with yesterday's unfair verdict, issued in spite of the violations of due process during my detention and trial, which included torture and mistreatment to pressure me into revealing the names of other gay partners and forcing me to use my fingerprint to sign multiple documents in Arabic without a translator."
"The Qatari authorities have convicted me because I am gay, and this is a breach of my human rights," Guerrero Aviña said, adding that he was glad he could leave Qatar, but condemned what he called the "unfair trial I have been subjected to and the torture and ill treatment I endured during my preliminary detention."
In a statement sent to CBS News on Thursday, a Qatari official said Guerrero Aviña "was arrested for possession of illegal substances. He acknowledged the possession of the seized substances and was subsequently booked, registered, and presented to the court. A drug test later came back positive, confirming the presence of amphetamine and methamphetamine in Mr Aviña's system at the time of his arrest."
The official accused Guerrero Aviña and his family of making "numerous false allegations in an attempt to generate public sympathy and support for his case."
Homosexuality is illegal in Qatar, but Guerrero Aviña, who worked in the airline industry, had a home there and had lived a "normal life," experiencing no issues with authorities until his arrest, his family said.
Guerrero Aviña's brother Enrique told CBS News partner network BBC News previously that Manuel had exchanged numbers with someone named "Gio" on the LGBTQ+ app Grindr and arranged to meet at Guerrero Aviña's home in Doha. When Guerrero Aviña went downstairs to let the man in, his brother said Qatari police were in the lobby and arrested him. Guerrero Aviña's brother said Manuel then had a small amount of amphetamines planted on him, and that he had not taken any drugs.
Qatari officials said in a statement shared with the BBC previously that "no other factors were taken into account" apart from the alleged drug violations in Guerrero Aviña's arrest.
The Qatari official who spoke Thursday with CBS News reiterated that stance and added that Guerrero Aviña had "been treated with respect and dignity throughout his detention."
According to Mexico's foreign ministry, Guerrero Aviña was to be allowed to leave Qatar after paying the fine of 10,000 riyals, equivalent to about $2,750.
Guerrero Aviña told his family he'd witnessed other prisoners being whipped and was threatened with the same treatment if he did not sign legal documents written in Arabic, which he cannot read. His brother said that when authorities learned Guerrero Aviña was HIV+, they moved him into solitary confinement and withheld medication at times to try to pressure him to share information about other gay men, which he said his brother had refused to provide.
Middle East researcher Dana Ahmed told BBC News that Guerrero Aviña's treatment in detention, and later in his first trial sessions, "raises serious fears that Manuel is being targeted for his sexual orientation and is being coerced into providing the authorities with information that they could use to pursue a crackdown on LGBTI individuals in Qatar."
In a Saturday social media post, British parliamentarian Kate Osborne shared a photo of a letter to her and other members of the U.K. legislature from the nation's top diplomat, Foreign Secretary David Cameron, addressing Guerrero Aviña's case, in which he said he was "closely following" the proceedings, but that the U.K. government was "unable to interfere with the judicial affairs of other countries."

Photo safari to Tanzania Jan. 2024, part 1
Nancy and I had a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to go on a photo safari. A friend of Nancy's mentioned she was leaving in 30 days for her 30th trip to Africa. Nancy said that would be cool and her friend said “come with us.” So we did.
Ruth and Bob had been with our guide Raffy recently and he was starting his own guide service. So here we are on a 10-day safari with a new business owner who is going to pull out all the stops for his first clients. Plus Ruth is almost as knowledgeable about the birds and animals of Africa herself.
Tumblr media
Above is Ruth, Nancy, Dana and Bob at the gateway to the Serengeti about day 7 of our adventure.
Tumblr media
Here is Raffy, Nancy and Ruth having breakfast in the middle of the Ndutu Conservation Area. This is typical of our days. We are always the first jeep out of camp as the sun is just lightening the sky. After several hours of viewing lions, zebras, wildebeest, and gazelle. Raffy parks us in the open and we break out the breakfast provided by the camp.
Tumblr media
Did we get to see animals up close?
You bet we saw them all, here is a tonsil check on a male lion of the Upper and Lower Marsh Pride. Hopefully, I have your attention and will start over at the beginning of the journey.
Nancy and I flew Miami-Philly-Doha, Qatar on American Airlines. Doha is about the cleanest prettiest airport in the world. Since we had a 7 hour break there and needed to get on Tanzania time. We opted for a private cubicle to sleep in. Pay by the hour, nice bunks and just what we needed. Leaving Doha at 0115 in the morning we flew 5 hours to Killamanjaro Airport (JRO) in Tanzania.
Tumblr media
Changing of the Guard. Turns out that the Captain flying us from Miami to Philadelphia is none other than a former First Officer of mine in Miami, Brandon Lozano. On our flight was his soon-to-be in-laws, Dawn and Mike. We have to get back quickly from this journey since we are invited to Brandon and Jackie’s wedding in Key Largo. Super smooth flight, Capt. thanks for the ride!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Doha airport and Nancy in our “Sleep N’ Fly” bunk room.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Kilimanjaro Airport and Qatar aircraft we arrived on. My visa had been approved prior to the trip but Nancy’s had not. Turned out not to be a big deal, and they allowed her in the country. Everyone we met in Tanzania could not have been nicer, starting with the Customs and Immigration officials. This country knows their future lies with tourism. Every person we met including all the camp staff, asked us to tell our friends about Tanzania and to come back soon.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is “Simba” a 10-year-old 300,000-mile 4-wheel drive Toyota Jeep Land Cruiser. Raffy and John met us at the airport and drove us to our first lodge, Shamba. We were the only guests at the five-cabin lodge. Outstanding staff and great food. “Simba” is Swahili for Elephant.
Tumblr media
This cabin has a loft with a huge bed upstairs, bath and kitchen downstairs.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Mosquito nets surrounding the beds is standard in Africa. Even though there very heavy rains the weeks before we arrived, we only had one or two mosquito bites.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sitting by the “Camp TV” in the evenings as it chilled down. Nancy at dinner.
Tumblr media
While we waited for Ruth and Bob to arrive in Arusha, Tanzania. We spent one day with Raffy in Arusha National Park. This was going to be our appetizer for the parks. A small park but it did have a monkey we would not see in any other park. So we got to see our first giraffe, elephant, zebras and baboons.
Tumblr media
Once into the park, Raffy took a side road through the heavy woods. It was a road less traveled. Which is Raffy’s style. We ran across several giraffes which made the entire safari worthwhile in Nancy’s eyes. Things would only get better. The only giraffe in Tanzania is the Masai Giraffe.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Above is a very elusive “Harvey’s Red Duiker”, which is a very small deer. We saw a couple and were lucky to get this photo. I think they get the prize for the homeliest-looking deer.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is the seventh-highest mountain in Africa, Mt. Meru at 14,980 ft. It is inside the park. Many hikers spend three days hiking up to the summit. Each group of hikers is required to have 2 armed Rangers to protect them from predators.
Above Nancy is standing up in the jeep and taking photos. Tremendous viewing with the top raised.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Nancy face to face with her first of many elephants. This is an older male. He was a half mile behind a female with a juvenile. Elephants have 7 sets of teeth. They wear each of the sets out in about 10 years. This guy was probably on his last set. He was not in great shape. You may have heard about elephant graveyards. Where there are multiple elephant skeletons. These graveyards are in the easiest food-gathering places for elephants that have lost their teeth. Once they lose their teeth they basically starve to death.
Tumblr media
This is our lunch break at a park site, that provides picnic tables and restrooms. Armed park rangers are nearby and ready to escort hikers to the top of the Mt. Meru.
Tumblr media
This is life in a third-world country. Using gravity, not much to break; just saying….
Out of permitted photos. check out part 2. above.
If you are interested in your own African Safari, check out Raffy’s website: https://maweafricanventure.com

WTNV quick rundown - Live Show - Ghost Stories
For other live shows and episode rundowns please check here!
Featurings the voices of Meg Bashwiner as Deb, Symphony Sanders as Tamika Flynn, Joseph Fink as Teddy Williams, Hal Lublin as Steve Carlsberg, Desiree Burch as Pamela Winchell, Dylan Marron as Carlos The Scientist, Jasika Nicole as Dana Cardinal, Wil Wheaton as Earl Harlan, Jeffery Cranor as himself (in intern form), Jason Webley as Louie Blasko, Molly Quinn as Melony Pennington, Kate Jones as Michelle Nyugen and Emma Frankland as Sheriff Sam.
We have nothing to fear but fear itself. Also many other things, several of which can be found in your home. Welcome to Night Vale!
The Ghost Stories in question are submissions by citizens for NV 'annual' ghost story competition. We also got a few regular segments.
Horoscopes reveal that Steve Carlsberg is a Scorpio. Cecil says this is not why they're usually mean. He also mentions that Janice is soon having her first 'ballet fight' which Abby said he wouldn't be invited to if he weren't nice in his horoscopes.
Deb returns with an ad for American Airlines. She tells a story about a family of sentient patches of haze moving into a house that is inhabited by humans. It is pointed out that humans often own houses, a fact which gets Deb in a huff.
In the Children's Fun Fact Science Corner, Cecil suggests that it's been confirmed that time travel will be invented in 30 years and proposes a (failed) experiment to test this out.
NVHS prom will be locking the kids in and allowing them to gamble. The schools tests kids using an electrified maze.
The NV fire department is sure it's kids that start fires, their mascot is a vulture with a camera for a head and their fire chief is Ramona Encarnacion.
Weather: "Where Did I Go" Erin McKeown
Tamika says she learnt English by reading it not listening to it and has a very unusual way of saying potato. Her story is about her best friend Jessice Littleton defeating a librarian.
Teddy Williams is having a haunted house kind of event at the Desert Flower. His story is about the ghost of Marcus Vanston's cat haunting the NV skating rink which was built over the pet cemetary. He says it speaks French, and he only has a Russian dictionary, which he assumes is similar enough to French. He believes that the cat is called Peanut and died of lonliness, waiting for Marcus to return. Unable to reunite even in death it is now a ghost.
Steve tells us about a bus of school children and their driver Mab, stalled on train tracks. They didn't actually get hit by a train but died of natural causes years later. Even so, Steve insists your car will roll and you'll see ghostly handprints if you go to the train station at the right time. He doesn't believe in Cecil's plausible explanations for this and waxes momentarily poetic about the nature of existence which actually scares Cecil. They hug.
Pamela appears to tell a story, seemingly accompanied by one of the mute hollow-eyes children. She insists he was probably there since the last press conference a month ago and Cecil forgot to send him home. She also says he grandfather was a bird. Her story is about a cool rock she found that has a latin inscription on it she is assuming is the book 'Gone Girl'. But since she thinks the movie 'Furious 7' is 'Gone Girl' and Cecil thinks the book 'Ms Peregrines Home for Peculiar Children' is 'Gone Girl' and nobody in NV speaks Latin there is no way it actually is a Latin translation of that book and if it were neither would recognise it. Pamela ate the rock. She also arrived and left on a horse.
Carlos' story actually involves him meeting a ghost in his lab and being more scientifically interested (and embarassing himself by phrasing things strangely to the ghost) than scared. He keeps forgetting he's on radio and not describing things. He also has an assistent called Winchell who lives in the crawl space and the ghost was his relative. He says that many scientists who died from not having OSHA approved eye washes are buried in the cemetary next to his lab. He also believes that Benjamin Franklin tied his kite to a tombstone and that Canada is in Boston.
Dana's story is about her uncle Herbert's mansion. He had apparently cut all contact with their family years prior to his death, only keeping the company of his manservant Sherfwood. The mansion is apparently hideously decorated and none of them wanted it, not even her ghost cousin Denise. This story may also be told by Sheriff Sam, making it dubiously canon for either.
Earl is retelling a story his old scout master Ron Veal used to tell. Its about a group of scouts getting lost at night and developing their own civilisation, eventually drawing straws to see who got killed and eaten. It turns out they were in somebodies back garden and are soon invited back inside, with the mother being upset that her son Richie is not there. His ghost did rejoin the trope eventually and get his apparition badge as did they all some time later. Earl insists it was centuries since he and Cecil were scouts, which causes Cecil to quickly change the subject. Also, Cecil has no idea what a fridge is and thought his fridge was a humming closet full of cold air. It's unclear what he's been using as a fridge as he changes the subject when asked. Earl mentions cooking shows such as 'America's next top self-surgeon' and 'Who's in the slow cooker?' and mentions that cooking masterclasses are in high demand. He also lights a bonfire right there in the studio in order to tell his story. Earl smiles by using his fingers to pull up the sides of his mouth.
Intern Jeffery Cranor tells us a story about Intern Felix's death and how souls work.
Louie Blasko tells us a story about a kid called Harold being murdered by spiders and haunting the NVHS locker room - in song.
Melony tells us of discovering the trapped soul of a person killed by an evil programmer inside of a computer, but fixed the computer as hired so its gone. She also says earthquakes are controlled by a red glowing gem, which you can connect to via wi-fi and use to do most anything. She uses one to get birds to attack her enemies. She says LOL is short for Loss of Lungs.
Michelle is having an open mic night where people who think of themselves as performers are invited to come and stare at the mic in silence. She tells of trying to record something only for a blank hiss to be on both sides of the tape, which she thinks makes her cursed. Cecil says the recording probably just fails and Michelle sighs that nothing fun ever happens to her.
Sheriff Sam tells us of their many, many fears which they apparently really needed to get off their chest.
The longest story is told by Cecil, who keeps taking breaks to allow others to tell their stories or do his regular show. He tries to make it into a story about a woman who died in a mill fire ten years ago and is picked up by a man who she gets to guide her back to said tragic place. In reality, he was retelling the story of his own childhood with supernatural elements and eventually tells us the actual truth.
He tells us that his mother left home when he was 14 and never came back as much as he tried to believe that she would. Because of this, Abby had leave school (assumedly collage or university, as she'd likely have had to be at least 18 to be legally allowed to raise him) to take care of him. He admits that he was petulent and subversive because he was upset their mom was gone and that Abby was not their mother. Abby was reserved and controlling in her grief and also blaming him for her having to drop out. This greatly strained their relationship for years afterwards.
Eventually their mother does come back when the two are already adults, aged beyond her years, worn down by the stresses of debt, alcohol and undiagnosed or even recognised mental illness.
Their mother died and only Abby was there, because Cecil was busy working. On the ten year anniversary of said death he did indeed pick her up and take her home, both of them still full of the grief of their childhood and of their mothers passing and not really healed but on their way to healing. Cecil testifies that most actual ghost stories are like this.
Cecil has, by his own recollection, been working in the station for at least thirty years as he remembers tripping on a specific wire there thirty years ago.
Stay tuned next for that uncertain moment of silence between the last word spoken and the first applause. And from a night that is so much like tonight, as to almost be – indistinguishable. Good night, Night Vale, Good night.

When Scully wakes, he is in her bed.
She didn’t expect him to still be there. No one in her life ever stays, certainly not anyone good.
Which is why she has to end it. They will take him from her like they’ve taken all good things in her life.
And like all good things in her life, this one can’t last.
She dresses quietly and drives to the building on autopilot, runs a brush through sleep-mussed hair. She doesn’t want to look at herself in the mirror but she catches a glimpse as she enters the building.
She looks tired. Sick.
She is tired and sick. They’ve been reluctant to give her this last bout of treatment, saying her information has been drying up, and what are they keeping her around for, then?
Skinner isn’t there when she knocks on his door. She knew he wouldn’t be. Instead, he is, the man with smoke forever clouding his face.
“I can’t do this anymore,” she says, shutting the door behind her. She hates how her voice trembles. “I won’t.”
“You don’t have a choice.”
“You think I won’t die to get away from you?” she asks.
“You didn’t want to two years ago.”
“Two years ago I wasn’t this,” she says. “I wasn’t—wasn’t a traitor, wasn’t betraying my country, two years ago I had something to live for.”
She doesn’t know why she’s admitting this to him of all people. Maybe because she doesn’t care.
“You’re making a mistake,” he says. “We will end you.”
You already have, she thinks.
“Go ahead,” she says and turns towards the door.
“Dana,” he says, and there’s a warning in his tone. “We’ll end him. You know we can do it.”
This makes her stop. Pause.
“What do I care if you destroy Fox Mulder,” she says. “He means nothing to me.”

53 and/or 59 from the prompt list 🤗
59 & 53! wanted to see if I could work them both into a drabble.
53) Who cares about what they think?
59) Is this okay?
MSR, post "All Things"
It's the first time they've gone out together as a couple. Well. Gone out is an overstatement; it's lunch in the J. Edgar Hoover building's cafeteria; someplace she's pretty sure Mulder has only set foot in once in his entire FBI career.
It's good—the food. Better than she expected for government food. It's a step up from airline food in that it's edible and at least mildly delicious.
What she can't get over is the staring.
Mulder keeps tapping his fingers on the table. They sit across from each other, her foot occasionally brushing his, and it really does feel like everyone in the building is watching them.
Do they know? Can they sense it—the change between the two of them? To her it feels palpable.
She reaches for his hand, if only to still his fingers. He startles, looks at her.
"Is this okay?" she asks, and he nods. She smiles reassuringly, not letting go of his hand for the rest of lunch until they stand to clear their trays.
She reaches for his hand again as they walk back down to the basement, on impulse. But she finds herself hesitating, suddenly.
As if he can read her mind, Mulder reaches down and intertwines his own fingers with hers.
"Who cares what they think?" he asks, and she nods, squeezing his hand, content as always to let him reassure her.

Russia's response to GPS interference on European flights
  The severity of the problem
In recent years, European flights have frequently encountered GPS interference, especially in the Baltic Sea, the Black Sea and the eastern Mediterranean. These interferences mainly originate from the activities of the Russian military and have had a serious impact on civilian flights. On May 2, 2024, BBC Monitoring Russia Editor Vitaly Shevchenko reported the situation in detail, citing the opinions of many experts and institutions.
In March this year, the GPS signal of the Royal Air Force plane carrying British Defense Secretary Grant Shapps was interfered when it approached Russian territory. signal jammer Finnair had to suspend its daily flights to Tartu, Estonia for a month due to interference problems. Juho Sinkkonen, vice president of flight operations at Finnair, said that their aircraft encounter GPS interference every day and receive more than 100 interference cases reported by pilots every month.cell phone jammer
  Interference technology and impact
GPS interference mainly includes signal blocking and signal spoofing. Signal blocking interferes with legitimate GPS signals, making them unable to be received normally, affecting navigation and positioning functions.GPS jammer Signal spoofing misleads receiving devices by sending false signals, showing the wrong location. These interferences not only affect aviation flights, but also maritime traffic and other systems that rely on GPS.
Although the interference problem poses a limited direct threat to aviation safety, it poses a challenge to operational efficiency and pilot workload. Cyrille Rosay, a senior cybersecurity expert at the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA), pointed out that the interference problem existed before Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022, but the situation has deteriorated significantly in recent years. EASA records thousands of interference incidents each year, showing the severity and widespread of the problem.
  Russia's interference behavior and motivations
Baltic officials and online investigators agree that the interference originated from Russia. Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna said they have evidence that jammers are located near St. Petersburg, Kaliningrad and Pskov in Russia. These interferences not only violate international agreements, but also pose a threat to regional security.
Chakna pointed out that Russia has violated the territory of the Baltic countries by jamming GPS signals and put people and civilian aircraft at risk. This behavior is both offensive and defensive. Keir Giles, director of the British think tank Conflict Research Center, believes that Russia is testing its ability to paralyze Europe on the one hand, and protecting itself from possible missile and drone attacks on the other.
  Countermeasures
Faced with increasing interference incidents, airlines and security agencies have taken a series of countermeasures. Dana Goward, president of the Resilient Navigation and Timing Foundation, pointed out that although aircraft have backup systems to deal with GPS interference, jamming signals still pose a serious risk. Our systems and societies are built around precise GPS signals, and interference will lead to reduced efficiency and safety of aviation systems.
To deal with interference, airlines and security agencies need to strengthen monitoring and countermeasures to ensure aviation safety. First, the ability of pilots and airline employees to identify and respond to GPS interference should be improved. Second, airlines should strengthen the use of backup navigation systems so that they can quickly switch to backup systems when GPS signals are interfered with. In addition, airlines and security agencies should work with the international community to jointly develop and implement strategies to deal with GPS interference.
