Legends of Oz: Dorothy's Return (2013)
Tumblr media
While I didn't enjoy this film, that doesn't mean you won't. No matter what I say, the people involved in this project did it: they actually made a movie. That's something to be applauded. With that established...
I can't think of anyone who would enjoy Legends of Oz: Dorothy’s Return. Adults will probably forgive the visuals - they're ok, but nothing spectacular. They won’t be able to look past the annoying characters and will instead wish they were just watching the original Judy Garland flick instead. Small children will do the same thanks to the lackluster songs and forgettable plot. If they haven’t seen the 1939 classic, this picture doesn’t stand on its own, making it an unofficial and pointless sequel.
In the Land of Oz, the Scarecrow (voiced by Dan Aykroyd), the Tin Woodman (Kelsey Grammer) and the Cowardly Lion (Jim Belushi) call their friend Dorothy Gale (Lea Michele) for help. An evil Jester (Martin Short) has stolen the Wicked Witch of the West's broomstick and is using its magic to destroy the Emerald City. With the help of some new friends, Dorothy must take down this new threat.
In all of these Oz sequels, Dorothy befriends a new group of crazy creatures while the original crew is sidelined. Why this happens over and over, I don't know. Fans would much rather see the four best friends reunited than meet a new crew, particularly when they aren't interesting. Dorothy's Return offers a lackluster replacement trio. First, Wiser (Oliver Platt), a flightless owl that’s constantly gorging and has this annoying tendency to finish other people’s sentences. Next is China Princess (Megan Hilty), who adds little to the plot. Finally, there's Marshal Mallow (Hugh Dancy), who provides some neat visuals but is otherwise unremarkable. They all participate in songs (the film is a musical) that are so forgettable you couldn't remember two lines in a row if a gun was pointed at your head. They’re not even bad; just bland.
It’s taking a superhuman effort to muster up memories of Legends of Oz: Dorothy’s Return and tell you why you shouldn’t watch it. The plot is so dull and uninspired it’s impossible to stay invested. You simply sit and wait for the plot to end. It isn’t offensive, but it begs the question: Why? Who was asking for this film? I can understand wanting to revive the Oz franchise, but just like 1985’s Return to Oz, this picture reminds you of the original while never matching its appeal. Actually, that comparison is unfair. Dorothy's Return WISHES it was even a 10th of Return to Oz. Nothing here manages to dredge this children’s story from the haze that forms the instant you hear that first musical number. At least it’s harmless in the sense that, even if are subjected to it, there’s nothing about this picture that’ll haunt you later on. It’s completely forgettable. (On DVD, May 11, 2018)

Tarzan (1999)

what book I would give each current formula one driver to introduce them to the joy of reading
an intellectual exercise no one* asked for
Max Verstappen: Guns, Germs, and Steel by Jared Diamond - if you are nd and have read this book, you may understand me. otherwise just trust me. the impetus for this post
Checo Perez: The Trumpet of the Swan by E.B. White - this is an excellent read-aloud book for Sergio Jr.'s age, and there is nothing as wonderful as reading a compelling book to a kid you love, imho
Charles Leclerc: The Golden Compass by Phillip Pullman - he is on the record as a Potter enjoyer. also, I think he would enjoy having a little animal friend
Carlos Sainz: Priestdaddy by Patricia Lockwood - okay yes this is partially a joke about the title, but this is a hilarious and wonderful memoir, about weird families and Catholicism, and I think Carlos would enjoy it.
Lando Norris: Guards! Guards! by Terry Pratchett - in my mind Lando is a little bit like @bright-and-burning but less cool, so this fits. also, the combination of high number of jokes/page + action/mystery seems like a good fit
Oscar Piastri: Ancillary Justice by Ann Leckie - this book has the kind of mystery that really draws you in, plus I think Oscar would dig the questions about AI it digs into. I choose to believe with zero evidence that he would be interested in the funky gender stuff
Fernando Alonso: Cloud Atlas by David Mitchell - look me in the eye and tell me this book wasn't written for Fernando Alonso
Lance Stroll: Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card - yeah
Lewis Hamilton: Die Trying by Lee Child - Lewis deserves to read mildly trashy thrillers <3 plus there's a Tom Cruise movie
George Russell: Changing My Mind by Zadie Smith - as a proud Brit, George should be reading one of the premiere English authors of the 21st century. her first book of essays is a fun and readable place to start
Yuki Tsunoda: Station Eleven by Emily St. John Mandel - I don't have a Yuki-lore explanation, I just want to give him one of my favorite books
Daniel Ricciardo: The Gunslinger by Steven King - The Dark Tower series is Lord of the Rings-esque in scope but Western-inflected in aesthetic and written by The Horror Guy, I think DR would enjoy
Alex Albon: The Emperor of All Maladies: A Biography of Cancer by Siddhartha Mukherjee - I say this with so much love in my heart, but Alex wants to be seen as smart. this book is brilliantly written pop science
Logan Sargeant: Bloomability by Sharon Creech - yes this is a book for tween girls, but it's about boarding school in Switzerland, and Sharon Creech is a genius. if I could convince him to read it, I think he would love it
Valtteri Bottas: The Fellowship of the Ring by JRR Tolkien - what are hobbits if not humanoid moomins?
Zhou Guanyu: Piranesi by Susannah Clarke - a fun, exciting, stylishly written book for a stylish guy
Kevin Magnussen: Watership Down by Richard Adams - rabbit warfare <3
Nico Hulkenberg: A Gentleman in Moscow by Amor Towles - Hulk SEEMS like a Dad Who Reads Historical Fiction, even if he isn't yet
Pierre Gasly: Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo - I almost said A Game of Thrones but I don't think that would be good for him. so, Six of Crows. he likes heists!
Esteban Ocon: City of Brass by S.A. Chakraborty - a superhero origin story of sorts for Mr. Spiderman
Bonus: Liam Lawson: Gideon the Ninth by Tamsyn Muir - lesbian from New Zealand. let me have this
*ro asked for it, take it up with them @oscarpiastriwdc

Olympian
Tumblr media
Daniel Ricciardo x Gretzky! Reader
Plot: Daniel's girlfriend is an Olympian, but not in the sport that you may think... (This takes place at the end of the 2017 racing season + 2018 Winter Olympics)
Formula 1 Masterlist
Word Count: 2.1K
Warning: Swearing, Canadian slang, hockey terms, clueless Daniel and clueless drivers (except Lance)
Tumblr media
It was the last race in Abu Dhabi. The long-awaited race was coming into place. Before the weekend started, they all decided to go out for a grid dinner at a restaurant. As the night went on, they started to talk about their winter break plans. Many go skiing in Europe, while others make stops at home to see family.
“Danny, what are you going to get up to?” Max asked him.
“I’m going to go home and visit the folks, and in February I’m going to PyeongChang,” he states, everyone’s eyes falling onto him.
“Korea? What on Earth are you going there for?” Nicko asks, finishing off his Heineken.
Daniel and (Y/N) had decided very early on to keep a private and low-key relationship. With (Y/N) showing up to the Montreal and Austalia races and him going to her most important games. But he never really discussed his relationship with the young hockey star with the other drivers. They knew he was dating someone but they didn’t know who he was dating. Daniel wanted to gush about how his girlfriend is going to the Olympics and this would be the only time he would do it until they go full public with their relationship.
“Isn’t that where the Olympics are this year?” Valtteri asks. This started to make many of the driver's mind race.
“Daniel, why are you going to the Olympics? Are you a super athlete and you never told us?” Seb asks in a joking way.
“Oh, I wish, but I’m more of a Summer athlete than a winter one. My girlfriend is taking part in the games and I’m going to support her,” he finally reveals. Many eyebrows were lifted at the revelation.
“Oh? We didn’t even know she was an athlete. What sport does she play?” Lewis asks, him thinking he might make a change of plans to go also.
“She’s playing for Team Canada’s women’s hockey team,” he states, catching the two Canadian driver’s attention.
“What’s her name, I wonder if Stroll knows her,” Alsonso jokes, causing a couple of drivers to chuckle.
“I don’t know if you would know her, but I would think you would know her father,” he says.
“Oh yeah, and who would that be?” Lance asks, being a little cocky.
“Wayne Gretzky,” he replies while taking a spit of his drink. Lance’s face fell like he was just told that his girlfriend was pregnant.
“I think you broke him, mate,” Carlos says, waving a hand in front of the Canadian’s face.
“You’re dating (Y/N) Gretzky?! As in Wayne Gretzky’s daughter,” Lance stresses, making sure he heard the Austrailian correctly.
“Why are you so surprised that he is dating this person's daughter?” Pierre asks, not knowing much of anything about hockey.
“Wayne Gretzky is one of the most famous hockey players of all time. He won 4 Stanley Cups, which is the trophy that the NHL plays for. He also broke every record set for points, goals, and assists. It's like him saying he is dating Pele's daughter!" he explains, blowing away many of the drivers.
“If that is the case, how the hell did you two meet?” Seb asks the Austrailian.
“They came to the Montreal Race a couple of years ago, and we ended up bumping into each other. We started talking and ended up exchanging numbers; the rest is history,” he explains.
“Wow, I didn’t know you had that much game,” Max says into his drink, earning a smack from the Australian.
Tumblr media
Race weekend came and went, and the travels of the drivers began. (Y/N) accompanied him to Australia to visit his family Australia, as a small vacation before all of her focus goes into the Olympics. It was one of the last days before she was going to fly back to Canada to get prepared for going to training camp. (Y/N) decided to take a step outside and enjoy the warm air.
As she sat on the deck, she was starting to feel the pressure that was being placed on her. She was ‘The Great Ones’ daughter, and Canada is a shoo-in to win gold this year. (Y/N) was so in her head that she didn’t hear the back door open, or notice someone sitting beside her. They pulled her into their body. Daniel’s cologne filled her nose, and she relaxed into his body.
“What’s going on in your head of yours?” he asked. She looked up at him a replied,” Everything.” Daniel lets out a breathy laugh, before placing a kiss on the crown of her head.
“Oh love, everything will work out in the end,” he replies.
“Yeah, I know, but what if people decide that I’m not as good enough? What if I can’t live up to the expectations of being Wayne Gretkzy’s daughter?” she spews out just some of the anxiety-filled questions. Daniel sat there for a moment, trying to formulate an answer.
“Those are very common feelings to have. I know that these feelings are common for kids of sports stars,” he states while playing with her hair. “But do what I always say, Fuck ‘Em All.”
She looks up at him and smiles. “Thanks, Danny.” He leans down and kisses her lips.
“Come on, let's get you back inside, it's starting to get cold out here,” he states, helping her up.
“I love you, Danny,” “I love you too (Y/N/N)” he replies before placing a kiss against her lips. Before they could continue their moment, it was broken by a distinctive “EWWW” from a little boy. They turned to see Daniel's nephew standing at the slightly opened glass door.
“Come here ya bugger,” Daniel says while he starts to chase the boy back inside, leaving (Y/N) behind, laughing at his antics.
Tumblr media
Time flew by, and before either of them knew it, they were in Korea for the fateful Olympics. Canada breezed through the round-robin rounds. They then fought their way through the quarters and semi-finals, leading them to the long-awaited finals. The United States of America vs. Canada. The well-known rivalry goes back decades.
(Y/N) was listening to music while she was getting warmed up. A playlist that Daniel made for her. As she was stretching, her phone pings. She sees Daniel's picture pop up. It was a text. (Y/N) opens and smiles.

You got this babe! Remember, Fuck Em All
“Awe, that’s so sweet!” a familiar French accent grounds her. She turns to see her friend Marie-Philip Poulin standing behind her.
“I see lover boy is taking the boyfriend role seriously today,” she states while sitting beside (Y/N).
“Yeah, he knows that I get in my head a lot when it comes to things like this,” (Y/N) states, fidgeting with her necklace that holds her hockey number and a little F1 charm.
“You’ll do fine chérie. And if people start to question your skills, we’ll have your back to prove them wrong,” Marie-Philip says while wrapping an arm around (Y/N)’s shoulders.
“Thanks, M.P. and I know that Danny would be beside you in that defence,” she says while returning the side hug.
“Now, come on, the game is in 30min, let's start getting out gear on.”
Tumblr media
It was go time. (Y/N) had walked out onto this pad many times in the last two weeks, but tonight was different. It was for an Olympic gold medal. Marie-Philip Poulin was hyping the girls up, getting them ready to face the fierce rivals. As they skated out onto the International pad of ice, the cheers of Canadians and Americans shake the nerves a little. She looked up at the jumbotron and saw that the camera was on her dad. Daniel was sitting beside him, and they were talking. What shocked her was seeing some of the other drivers sitting beside them.
Lewis Hamilton, Valtara Bottas, Max Verstappen, Sebastian Vettel, and Lance Stroll were sitting in the stands. They looked out of place, which made her laugh a little. She knew that if she had the TSN stream, the focus would be on her and her ‘cheer squad’. Sarah Nurse tapped her shins, getting her attention to set up for the start of the game. (Y/N) moved to the center ice for the face-off.
As the game unfolds, the rivals play each other hard. There were hard hits and solid goals. (Y/N) scored one of the two goals for the Canadian team, and she could hear Daniel from the ice level. With the 110% effort that was brought by both teams, it lead them to a shootout.
(Y/N) was the first shooter for Team Canada. She was getting ready to go, her nerves returning as a result. She looked up to where her squad was sitting and all she thought were Daniel's words to her. Fuck ‘Em All. She looked to the refs and gave them the nod, signalling to the refs that she was ready. The whistle blew, signalling for her to go. To (Y/N), it went deadly quiet. She blocked out all the fans, all the players yelling, everything. She skated down, went left to right, and then popped it over the blocker side of the US goalie.
When the puck hit the back of the net, she tuned back in to hear the roar of the Canadian fans. She felt that all the weight is off her shoulders. Her work in getting Canada the win is done. But it wasn’t enough. The United States ended up getting the upper hand in the shootout and earning them the gold medal. (Y/N) felt defeated. She felt numb.
They did the award ceremony, they consoled each other on the ice and in the changeroom. She would comfort them, just trying to be there for them. Her teammates would ask her how she was feeling and she would detour the questions. She got changed into some comfy, but still presentable, to walk out of the arena and back onto the bus to the Olympic Village. When they crawled off the bus, just wanting to get into their beds for the night, she saw Daniel and Wayne standing by the unloading spot. She gave them a small smile before walking into the open arms of her father.
“I am so proud of you,” he says. Those words made her break. Tears started to fall and her body shakes in her father's arms. Daniel wanted to take her into his arms, but he knew that she needed it.
“But we lost,” she murmured into her father's chest. Wayne moves her off him, so he can look at her properly.
“It doesn’t matter that you won or lost. You went out there and showed the world how great you were. Unfortunately, shootouts are awful ways to end games, and they got the puck in more times. But you guys kept them in the game and made it such a great game. That’s what makes me proud of you,” Wayne praises. More tears fall on (Y/N)’s face, but now they were happy tears.
“I love you, Dad,” she says, bringing him back into a big hug. “I love you to kiddo,” he replies while placing a kiss on her forehead. Reminders of when she would come off the ice upset from the game and Wayne comforting her exactly like this.
“Now, I think someone is wanting to talk to you,” Wayne says while turning her to see a fidgety Daniel standing behind them. She giggles at his antics before thanking her dad again. Wayne walked off into the village, leaving the two love birds alone. Daniel opens his arms up, and (Y/N) falls into his arms quickly.
“Sorry for not giving you guys the best performance,” she whispers against his Team Canada jacket.
“Are you kidding, the boys first couldn’t believe that we were dating. Then they couldn’t believe that you had moves like this. Minus Stroll of course as you both are maple leaves,” Daniel states. Giggles erupt
“If you’re up for it, the boys invited us to a restaurant just outside of the village and they would love to meet you. But if you’re not up for it, it is totally understandable and we can arrange something during the racing season,” he word dumps.
“You know what, I’ve avoided meeting your fellow racers for this long, why not meet some of them properly,” she says with a smile. “And I could go for some good Korean food.” This causes Daniel to laugh.
“Well, I’ll make sure Lewis pays then, come on,” he states while walking her towards the rental he got.
(Y/N) felt disappointed that she didn’t get Canada the gold, but Daniel and her father made her feel that she wasn’t a failure, and she felt the most confident she had ever been.

i'm not the girl you
knew back then.
Tumblr media
daniel ricciardo x fem! reader.
the former red bull driver reunites with his former fling.
rbc daniel <3333
trigger warnings ; angst , angst and more angst. like one line of smut if you squint.
—————————————————————
how many years ago was it? she couldn't remember. she hadn't seen daniel since his red bull days — the better days , as she'd used to call it. however , she doesn't reminisce about those nights anymore. she doesn't stay up till three in the morning thinking what could have been. she's moved on , or at least she assumed she had.
it wasn't until she saw daniel in the flesh. somehow , she knew they'd cross paths again. after their initial falling out she dropped out of the formula one scene entirely , not wanting to see daniel's face ever again. but after years she started to miss it — so , so much.
all she wanted to do is be back in the paddock. so , she took a job offer from alphatauri reluctantly. the job was simple , social media manager. everything was perfect. she had grown to like gasly and tsunoda , even considering them friends.
the season was perfect , although alphatauri didn't do great in the drivers and constructors , she still had the time of her life. that was until pierre pulled her to the side. " looks like this is it for me , mon ami. " he smiled , knowing his time at alphatarui was up. she understood his decision to leave - he wanted a competitive car and alphatarui couldn't give that to him.
" but who is getting your seat ? " she asked , he hesitated to answer. " i don't know if you'll like my answer. " she froze for a moment , expecting someone . . she knew ? or something she'd grow to not like ? she couldn't put her finger on it. " who is it ? " she asked again anxiously.
" ricciardo. " he sighed , she audibly sighed with him. " really ? " she didn't believe him in the slightest. what was he doing here? " mhm, he signs the contract tomorrow. " pierre looked worried — he knew their history.
" fuck. "
————————————————————————
she was forced to attend the ceremony. she was forced to film he former . . lover? no. she wouldn't go that far. after he signed the contract he looked around the room , they made eye contact. she found herself lost in the australian's gaze , she hated herself for it. she knew they would have to interact at some point now , but she didn't want that moment to come.
back in hospitality she found herself stress eating , downing a plate of fruit in minutes. she couldn't bring herself to leave hospitality yet , she didn't want to see daniel just yet. but unfortunately , he luck was cut short.
she wasn't paying attention to her surroundings like she should have been , so when someone sat a plate next to her she assumed it was someone else on the team , until she finally got a good look at the random stranger. who just so happens to not be a stranger.
" long time no see. " the aussie's contagious smile caught her off guard. no , not now please. but she always found herself smiling around him. it's something about him that she could never really resist. " daniel. " she say back bluntly , trying to convey that this isn't a good time . . but daniel thought otherwise.
" didn't think i'd see you in white. thought you stayed with red bull ? " he asked , as soon as he left the team , he left her. " no. " she said back , placing her fork down on her plate , not attempting to look at him. " oh come on , you can at least acknowledge me. " he rolled his annoying eyes.
" i'd rather not. " she wasn't in the mood to get left again. " well you just did. " he laughed a little , his laugh. his fucking laugh. it drove her insane. it made her insides swirl into a fucking disaster. she wanted to leave , she wanted to just get up and walk away from him — just like he walked away from her. but she couldn't. she felt that familiar tingling in her stomach , he always knew how to give her butterflies.
it didn't help that his hands grazed over her thigh. it didn't help that his gaze never left hers. she could feel herself grow hot , red , and most importantly , weak. " can you just — please daniel. " she could feel the words get lost in her throat. the aussie let out a low chuckle , knowing the effect he had on her. " please what ? use your words. " typical daniel move. his hand finally placed on the inside of her thigh , she shivered.
" leave me alone. " she finally spoke , he lifted his hand from her thigh. " c'mon. " he pleaded for a moment. " you couldn't have just forgotten our time together. " he looked down for a moment. she couldn't forget. all the nights they had spent together , all the drinks they shared , all the memories they had made together.
" i'm not the same person you knew back then , dan — daniel. " she almost resorted back to saying danny , her lips curled into a frown. he's the routine she could never forget. " i'm not either. " he said , she finally looked at him. " i was stupid , too focused on other things when i knew i should only be focused on one thing. " he admitted , his hand found her own on the table , just lightly hovering over it. " i should've focused on you. "
" well it's too late for that now. " she replied back , she stood up and began to walk away. he just looked at her helpless to do anything. he couldn't bring himself to chase her.
—————————————————————
since then things have only gotten complicated. late drunken nights together , passing gazes through the paddock , it was all too familiar for her. they played this game with each other , a game that he loved , but she hated. he kissed her like he loved her , but turned around and left her like she meant nothing. she often found herself hating herself for this , for falling back into his trap. the nights where her face is stuffed into a pillow , tears flowing down her cheeks as he pounds into her from behind. she knew this feeling all too well.
she hated him , but she loved him. he loved her. days spent together masquerading as co — workers , days spent in each others arms at the end of the night. it was tiring , exhausting. she couldn't do this any longer.
" do you love me daniel ? " she asked , laying in their hotel room bed completely naked. daniel half asleep , turned to face her. she was laying on her back , staring at the ceiling. his long arms wrapped around her waist. " what kind of question is that ? " his quiet voice almost echoed throughout the room. " do you love me ? " she looked at him dead in the eye. it took him awhile to reply. she stayed there in the darkness , tears welling in her eyes. daniel tried to speak , but he found himself lacking the words.
she understood what that meant. so she sat up , looking back at him one last time before standing up. he sat up in bed , mirroring her the last time they had a conversation like this. it was 2018 – daniel's last day at red bull. she had asked the same thing.
that night , he left her , but this night? she left him. he knew this was coming all along. maybe the cycle will repeat itself , maybe it wouldn't. she flung on her clothes and grabbed her purse , heading straight to the door. she looked back at him. she wanted him to beg her not to leave. but he just sat there.
and that was enough of an answer.
she opened the door quietly , walking out and towards her own hotel room. daniel sat there in silence , watching the door shut behind her gently. so this is how she felt. he sat there for what felt like hours , watching the door — hoping that she would come back. but she never did.
now he knew how she felt.

I couldn't hold back my tears.
I don't know if it's age, but I seem to get more emotional in these situations.
It's difficult to put into words what I felt when I jumped onto the ice at the Verdun Auditorium on January 13 for our team's home opener.
The crowd was incredible, but it was more than just the ovation that put me in this state. This emotion represented years of effort. I dreamed of this moment for a long time and, finally, we were there.
When I saw great women like Caroline Ouellette, France St-Louis, Kim St-Pierre and Danielle Goyette arrive on the ice, I got chills. I was so happy that people recognized them and gave them the ovation they deserve. Without them, I would not have had the same career.
I'll be honest. At one point, I feared this moment would never come. It took longer than expected. Yes, there were these showcases , weekends where matches were organized in different cities, but it had nothing to do with a real professional league.
JI remember the first time I came to see the installations in Verdun with Danièle Sauvageau. There was almost nothing done. We had our work boots and construction helmets. She had a vision which she explained to me in detail. But I really had a hard time imagining it.

Marie-Philip Poulin greets the crowd after a Montreal team match.
PHOTO: LPHF MONTREAL/ARIANNE BERGERON
Our fans are the best. Friends who play on other teams told me that. It's not a crowd like any other in Montreal. She is noisy. She is invested. It's important to me to give back to people who are on the move. I am now more comfortable in this role. It’s the experience that comes in, you have to believe.
Before a live interview on Radio-Canada during an intermission at the Verdun Auditorium, a boy called me to offer me a treat. He threw one at me and I caught it in midair with my mouth. I started my interview anyway, with a smile on my face and my mouth full. It's part of my identity, my personality. Interaction with young people is really important to me.
The enthusiasm for our league is very real. I feel it. I hear it too. In Ottawa, I got booed when I went for a penalty shot. Being booed at home, in Canada, I admit that it's a first! It's weird, but it doesn't bother me. After all, that's what we wanted: a competitive league, rivalries and fans who identify with their city.
After a game in Minnesota, we went for a beer. Fathers came to see us to tell us how excited they were to see professional women's hockey. I saw how happy they were for us. It was in Minnesota, we are the team from Montreal and, despite everything, we attract attention.
This anecdote made me realize how our situation has nothing to do with what we experienced in the past. The enthusiasm is there and I have the impression that it is not just the effect of novelty. It will last and it's truly magical.
OHe talks to me a lot about this match last January 20, against Toronto . In fact, I'm mostly told about this goal scored with 17 seconds left in the third period and that we lost by one goal. Honestly, I don't know what happened. I had a blackout . It's rare that I take the puck and try to get to the goal on my own. I saw an opening. It was not premeditated. I was the first surprise when I scored.
Then, I was sent to shootouts four times by my coach. I obviously wasn't ready for that. It took me a little by surprise. It's not my favorite rule, but I'll get used to it.
I was burned out after that match. It's a lot of adaptation. LPHF games, Canada-US Rivalry Series, travel. We're not used to having such a big workload. You have to prepare well, but also make sure you recover well. That's the beauty of this league. It allows me to continue to surpass myself, to learn new things.

I like hockey. I love that. And what I prefer is when the score is close. I like it when you have to give a little more, when you have to empty the tank. When it really counts, that's when I'm at my best. It turns me on.
My parents always told me: You practice like you play. It always stuck in my mind. I don't take anything for granted. I am aware of the pressure, but I have learned to manage it over the years. I don't forget that it's a team sport. I'm lucky to have been able to achieve some of these great moments, but I know I'm not alone in this.
I won Olympic medals, but I also lost world championships. I even wondered if I was capable of winning one. The 2018 Olympics were arguably the most difficult time of my career. I was practically hiding. I didn't want to see anyone. I thought I had disappointed the whole world by failing to bring home the gold medal.
I also learned not to read everything, to leave certain comments aside. Hockey is such a difficult sport. You can do the same thing every game, but the rebound won't go your way, it won't work or the opposing goalie will be on fire. I keep in mind that if you give your maximum in every match, it will happen.
People expect me to score goals, but that's not all I am. I take a lot of pride in blocking shots, in raising sticks in defensive withdrawal. I can still improve my defensive game. To win championships, you have to count, but the little details in the defensive zone will make the difference.

Marie-Philip Poulin and Laura Stacey celebrate a goal together on January 2, against Ottawa
PHOTO: LPHF MONTREAL/ARIANNE BERGERON
Even though she has been on the national team for a long time and is one of the best players in the world, Laura Stacey is less known to Quebec fans. Why her, they then asked themselves?
I knew full well that Danièle Sauvageau had not chosen her because she is my fiancée. Laura, she's an incredible player. A real power forward who has remarkable discipline.
She chose to move to another province. She is learning the language and doesn't hesitate to try to do bits of interviews in French. It's not easy, but she embraces her new reality.
I'm proud of her. I am proud to see her doing promotions for the media in French. I'm proud that people are discovering her personality, the player she is and that Montrealers are falling in love with her because she really deserves it.
OI often ask myself why I continue.
I don't have to play hockey. I do it because I love it. I feel the best on the ice.
I have the Olympic gold medals, the World Championship gold medals. Now I want to win an LPHF title in Montreal, at home.
Having a positive impact on the next generation has become my priority. To see the little girls in the stands, with stars in their eyes, it's worth more than championships, it's worth more than medals.
Eventually, I want to start a family. It would be in my next projects. We love kids, so this is really important to us.
For the moment, it's still hockey first and foremost.

Ice dancers Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir to enter Canada's Sports Hall of Fame
September 7, 2023
Tumblr media
OTTAWA — Decorated ice dance duo Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir and mixed martial arts star Georges St-Pierre were among the 2023 inductees named to Canada's Sports Hall of Fame on Thursday.
Randy Ferbey's curling team, wheelchair basketball player Danielle Peers and softball player Phyllis Bomberry will also be inducted as athletes, with judo coach Hiroshi Nakamura and lacrosse pioneer Oren Lyons joining them as builders.
This year's inductees were announced at the Canadian Museum of History in Gatineau, Que., where the Hall's artifact collection is now housed.
At their induction ceremony Oct. 19, the class of 2023 will join over 700 people named to the Hall since it was established in 1955.
Since 2019, inductees have received the Order of Sport from the Hall for their role in building Canada through sport.
Ice dancers Virtue of London, Ont., and Moir of Ilderton, Ont., won two Olympic gold medals and one silver as well as three world titles during their career.
Virtue called hearing about the induction a "surreal" moment.
"It's so exciting and moving and overwhelming. You know, now that we're a few years post retirement, you don't think of the accolades coming in the same way," she said. "So to to be recognized for our accomplishments in sport and to have the benefit of having a little bit of perspective on our career is so delightful. It's just an incredible honour."
Moir has transitioned to coaching, while Virtue works for Deloitte as an executive adviser.
The duo pushed boundaries of their sport with innovative choreography and skated with emotional depth in dazzling performances.
"Sport in general, as you well know, is in a difficult time right now," said Virtue.
"And especially the Olympic movement, we've seen a lot of shifts, a lot of changes. It's easier to get disillusioned by sort of the politics of it all, but when we can hone in on all of the exceptional things that sport offers, especially these next generations, I think that's really empowering and inspiring to me."

A paparazzi picture that makes everyone think Daniel and Betty are dating leads to positive PR for Mode, so Daniel and Betty decide not to combat the rumors. Suzuki St. Pierre, however, is on the case, and suddenly one picture becomes an entire fake relationship. It turns out they're pretty good at making everyone think they're in love.
Some fake dating and some real kissing: the perfect recipe.

Not hassling you in the SLIGHTEST but are we going to hear any more from the Lando/Eloise/Daniel era? I love every little doodad, blurb, scenario and headcanon you've written about it that has come across my dash!
I DO have a question though....did you ever cover Lando or Daniel (both?) coming out to their families/struggling with who they are and deciding whether they are full gay or bi? I have a headcanon that everyone around them knew they liked boys before they did and their friends (both Maxes etc) were like 'FINALLY! We figured it out YEARS ago!'
Cheers big ears! 😁
Hopefully I'll have some short pieces for Isn't She Lovely?up in the next week or so when I'm back from my holiday!
I've a few planned! I've got Sacha and Max F meeting Eloise, Max V, Sebastian and possibly a bit about Pierre meeting Eloise to write!! So I'll post them along here when I do have something!
I would also like to draw peoples attention to this lovely poem that was written and gifted to me on Ao3 called Eloise by OscarPastry 🥹❤️
As for your question yes! I have thought about it!
Lando does struggle with his identity when he starts to realise he's bisexual. Especially because he has Eloise, and he had loved her mother so much until everything happened. He had always looked at guys but never thought about it truly. So for Lando, coming to terms with it and coming out is terrifying because part of him is going "this is one more thing people will use against me as a driver and a parent", "what if someone tries to use this to take Eloise away?" because of course he's read all the horror stories.
When he does come out it's to Jon first cause he always feels safe with Jon and he's scared to come out to his family. This is all right in the middle of him prepping to join F1 and he's terrified. Of course it all goes well, Jon is so reassuring and when he comes out to his parents his mum just smiles and kisses his forehead and goes "we've known for a while dear, but thank you for feeling safe enough to tell us"
Daniel never really cared much about what others thought. Sure he heard the slurs and the stuff from some overly religious family members but he always knew his family was supportive. So when he dates a boy as a teen, his family just smile and make jokes about "finally huh?" which Daniel laughs st because "well I didn't know I needed a parade to tell you what you already knew dad"
Their friends absolutely would be the same with them being along the lines of "oh so we can start recommending guys to you noe? Because honestly your taste in women wasn't great mate, let us help"
