Part 1

Another shouting match in the throne room between father and son. Y/N had advised him to just let it go after they gave the servant strict orders about the ordeal, but Loki wanted to deal with this head-on.

"If your decision is to raise your child to be cowardly--"

"She is only 4 years of age!" Loki argued, angry tears staining his cheeks. Anger flared through him. How dare his father speak that way of his daughter, his granddaughter. "And even so, there isn't a cowardly bone in her body."

Loki truly believed his sprite was no weakling. She shouldn't be seen as such just because of a fear she can grow out of. Plenty of courage was still there, he could feel it.

He sensed it in the way she told certain people to back away if they approached her. She was an intuitive little girl who would give off a shrill "No!" whenever she didn't like someone who'd approach her. He knew they were people to keep an eye on. Like that one guard who turned out to be an undercover assassin. No one would've been the wiser if it hadn't been for young Daphne.

She also feared no beast, being friendly to each one she met. She seemed to have the skills to tame any who crossed her path whenever they'd enjoy a little walk in the nearby woods.

But yes, pardon her for having a fear of the dark. In her little mind, she must've felt there were many unknown creatures to fear in the dark. Ones she'd have no awareness of because she couldn't see them. It's only logical a light would keep them from lurking and have her be on the lookout. She just wants to take precaution, the smart little girl she was.

"Very well," Odin replied, wanting to be done with this conversation. "But do not say I didn't warn you when she cannot stand on her own. Because you choose to coddle her."

Loki could only scoff in response as he turned away to his exit, done talking as well. Why bother going to him? Because he's such a great example of a good father?

Loki made his way back to his quarters where you were currently with Daphne. You both looked up from the book you were reading to her. She squealed in delight and jumped off the bed, right into his arms.

"Daddy! Mummy was telling me the story of True and Untrue. They're brothers, like you and Uncle Thor."

"Is that so?" He inquired with a big smile. "Mind if I join you?"

"Please do!"

He chuckled softly and kissed the top of her head while he walked them back to you on the bed. Him and his little brave sprite.

The Rogers kids love their cousin! She’s older than them and they think she’s really cool. Daisy learned how to perfect some of her magic because of her. She was a little mean growing up, but not malicious. She just liked to scare them now and then with ghost stories she’d make up and create creepy figments to go with them. She would tell them it was all a joke if she saw that they were getting too scared and then conjure them up a nicer illusion like fireworks or butterflies. She’s the one who grew up on Asgard, so they’d love hearing stories about her time there. And they totally help her out when it comes to her crush on Axl!

Steve and Y/N love their niece like she was their own. They will always be there for her when her father can’t be. Daphne sometimes feels like she isn’t a priority for her dad, but they always let her know that isn’t true. Loki is just very unconventional when it comes to how he displays his love, as we already know. They not only encourage her to be mindful of how he reacts to certain things, but also let him know to just be there for his daughter.

What is the timeline for the Rogers Kids AU?

The original timeline had Steve and Odinsdottir having the kids after the events of Endgame, with Odinsdottir being pregnant with Daisy a month or so after everything. But I did a retcon where they were born during the 5-year gap because I wanted them to be around the same age as Morgan Stark and close in age to the young Avengers/superheroes who have appeared in the MCU.

There are times I have them as young adults or teenagers while on a mission with their parents like Jack during the events of Falcon and the Winter Soldier or Marcy in Moon Knight, but that's mostly for drabble or requests reasons.

Daphne Lokisdottir, on the other hand, is a whole different story.

She was born before any of them, with her mother being pregnant during the events of Thor: The Dark World. This would make her roughly 9/10 right now.

So, in short, the Rogers kids, Jack Barnes, and Marcy Spector were all born around the late 2010s while Daphne Lokisdottir was born in the early 2010s. But every once in a while I will write stories where I'll either age them up or down for entertainment purposes.

Jack definitely does. He and the next generation of Avengers have gone karaoking to unwind after a mission. Each has their own karaoke song they love to sing after a few drinks.

You could only roll your eyes as your husband went over the rules once again with your brother in law. You stood back with your daughter Daphne who was currently entertaining herself by sucking on her little fist and babbling in your arms. 

“Darling, he knows what to do,” you turned to Thor smiling. “Forgive him, Thor, this is our first time leaving her with someone else.”

You walked over to him as he opened his arms, all too eager to accept his niece. Loki wasn’t all that fond of Thor looking after his daughter, but you insisted that an evening to yourselves was what was needed. Frigga had fallen ill, so she wasn’t able to do so, and Odin had duties of his own to take care of (though he wasn’t exactly on the list on potential babysitters, regardless).  

Thor lifted Daphne up over his head, receiving some small giggles from her that made you smile. Loki did as well, in spite of himself. Your little sprite always had the ability to make anyone’s day. 

“See?” You pointed out. “They’re already getting on so well.”

Thor had been looking forward to spending time with her after being away on earth with the Avengers for so long. He settled her back in his arms and bounced a bit then. A sigh took you away from the sweet scene in front of you, seeing Loki looking at it himself with an unreadable expression on his face.

“I could drop dead right here and she wouldn’t even notice,” he grumbled.

Rolling your eyes, you shake your head at him, hiding your smile by pressing your lips together. You know he didn’t actually care. If anything, he looked forward to these visits from his brother as well.

Being immensely proud when little one takes their first steps alone.

Your little sprite was advanced in a lot of things. Her magic especially was something that deserved praise since she’d developed and learned to control it at such a very young age. The one thing she was having a bit of a hard time with was learning how to walk. You didn’t stress over this, however, due to this only being something she had recently struggled in learning to do. And with her barely being 10 months old, you felt no rush in her accomplishing this.

But little Daphne clearly inherited her father’s determination as she wouldn’t admit defeat just yet. Which is why you were spending one of your weekends on the couch while watching your husband coax your baby into coming to him with great fondness. 

“Come here, darling,” Loki urged Daphne in a soft tone as he sat a couple feet away from her on the floor and reached out for her.

In return, she giggled at him and made her own grabby hands towards him. Seeming to take her request, he helped her stand by holding one of her hands and lifted her up. The little overachiever required minimum aid in getting up.

She watched her feet with great concentration as she wobbled on the spot. You, yourself, were watching in anticipation while Loki put his hands near her in case she fell. But shortly after, she merely swayed and sat back down with hardly a step forward.

“You’ll get there sweetheart,” you assured your child, despite you having no choice but to giggle when she stuck out a frustrated pout. “Just keep practicing.”

“Let’s take a break,” Loki added, getting himself up from the floor. He patted her on the head and turned to leave to the kitchen for refreshments for all three of you. That was until a tiny squeal got him to stop in his tracks and look back.

“Dada!”

Daphne had somehow managed to pick herself up once more and carefully waddled over to Loki. You both gasped as he immediately crouched down and opened up his arms for her. She toddled her way soon enough into them, squealing with delight as he scooped her up against his chest with great disbelief.

He looked to you as though you might have an answer to what you both just witnessed. But you were just as pleasantly shocked as he was and quickly went over to hug your two loves. You knew she’d get there.

Choosing little one’s name together.

“Right where I thought you two would be,”

You looked up from your book to find yourself locking eyes with your husband. You greeted him with a smile as he did with you. 

“Here we are,”

“That will be all,” Loki instructed the guards, waving them off so he could enjoy some time alone with you in the palace library. 

“Has she been giving you any trouble?” He approached you on the chaise lounge sofa, patting your stomach that was holding your unborn daughter in place.

“None,” you responded. “We were just growing a tad restless in bed. So I decided to bring us over here to do some light reading.”

“And what have you been reading to our little one?”

You lifted the book up so he could see for himself. “One of the volumes on Greek mythology. Say what you will about the Midgardians, but their takes on myths and legends are quite fascinating. As well as the many Gods they believe in.”

“What’s that?” Loki pointed at the page you were currently on that showed an illustration of a young woman in mid-transformation to a tree.

“Oh, that’s the story of Daphne,” you explained. “She was the daughter of a river god who turned her into a tree after the god Apollo made unwanted advances towards her.”

“Sounds rather extreme. But also justifiable.”

“Sounds like something you’d do,” you said, only half-teasing. “I’m sure you’d use your magic to help out our own Daphne in a situation like that.”

“If anyone tried going after her in such a way, they should count their blessings if that was all I did,” he remarked in his threatening tone.

You simply laughed before going back to your book.

“So is that the name we’ve chosen?”

You paused your reading once more. “What’s that?”

“The name of our daughter,” Loki said. “It’s not Asgardian, but ‘Daphne’ does sound like a good name for her.”

You didn’t realize that you had just called her that. You looked down to your stomach, thinking about it for a minute.

“I like ‘Daphne,’” you agreed.

“Daphne Lokisdottir,” he confirmed by leaning down to whisper the name to your bump. “Your father will always do what it takes to keep you safe.”

Loki gave a short laugh to the sight in front of him.

“Is that really for your mother?” He referred to the sweets Daphne was currently holding, knowing those were her favorites.

The pair were out shopping for groceries while you stayed home recovering from a stomach bug you were carrying for quite some time now. He requested time off from missions so he could take care of you and your daughter (though that was mainly for formality issues since he was planning to do so, regardless).

“They’re my favorites Daddy! And Mommy likes it when I’m happy!”

Loki couldn’t help but give a bigger laugh at that. It amused him more than it should have with the way Daphne made clever attempts to get what she wanted. She, without a doubt, got it from him.

“Very well, you little monster. Just don’t let this become a habit of yours.”

He couldn’t stop the grin from growing when she squealed and rewarded him with a big hug to his legs. If she kept this up as she got older, a part of him hoped that the world would be prepared for its future ruler.

“I love you Daddy!”

Your eyes were beginning to grow heavy from exhaustion. Luckily, something on the T.V. was loud enough to wake you up. But it was also loud enough to wake up your daughter who was resting on top of you. You glanced down and saw that her eyes were still closed as she laid her head on your chest. You gave a tired smile to the sleeping five year old, running a hand up and down her back in a soothing manner as you did your best to slowly get up from the couch with her in your arms. But to no avail.

“No...” you heard Daphne mumble, doing her best to wrap her little arm around you as an attempt to put you back down.

“Sweetheart, it’s late. We gotta go to bed.”

“I want Daddy...”

The poor thing, she could never really sleep whenever her father was away. And if he was gone for an especially long time like he was now, she would begin to cling onto you in fear that you would somehow leave too. You always did your best to ensure her that her father was away for good reason, to make sure the bad guys were kept away from you and her. And her Uncle Thor would even help by always promising her that he would do whatever it took to protect him and bring him back to the two of you. Still, it didn’t do much to keep her from missing him.

The same could be said about you.

“I want Daddy too sweetheart,” you sighed, kissing the top of her head. “But he’ll be back soon. We just have to wait one more sleep. Do you want to go do that in Mommy’s bed?”

“Okay...”

It was almost dawn by the time Loki made it back home. He was offered to rest for a few hours at the Compound, but he immediately declined since he wanted to get back to his two loves as soon as possible. Once he stepped in, he quietly made his way to his daughter’s room to check on her and give her a quick kiss good night (or rather, good morning) before slipping into yours and his bedroom. It may have been the lack of sleep, but as soon as he saw that Daphne wasn’t in her bed, he began to get a little scared. He walked with a fast pace to his own room, with his worry vanishing in a flash when being welcomed by a precious sight.

Daphne was fast asleep and nuzzled against your chest while you had a protective arm wrapped around her middle. More than ready to join the two of you, Loki conjured off his armor so that he was in something more comfortable as he lied down on his side of the bed. He scooted over so that he was able to slump an arm around his little princess and you. The sun had risen by the time he fell asleep, but he made no plans to get up unless his girls wished him to. And although there was a small moment where Daphne fluttered her eyes open and found her daddy next to her, she didn’t do anything about it except smile and closed her eyes back up.

The giggles you were sharing with your daughter Daphne was the first thing Loki heard when entering your home, making him smile. He followed the sweet noise to Daphne’s bedroom and was welcomed by the sight of his messy, colorful loves. You were holding onto the little one as her tiny fingers moved all across the canvas that was propped up on an easel, smearing it with various, mixed-up colors with a gleeful shriek.

“What’s going on here?” Loki made his presence known after filling himself more with the precious scene.

The two of you on the floor looked up after hearing him, Daphne especially being pleasantly surprised from seeing him.

“Dada!” She squealed, reaching up for him. 

 He complied to her wishes instantly as he picked her up, but not before giving you a peck on the lips in greeting. Her hands went straight to his cheeks, marking him as easily as she did the canvas. The prints she left on him brought out another laugh in you. 

“We were looking for something to do after nap time,” you explained. “So I thought I’d show her how to do some painting.”

The two of you went on to laugh at the way Daphne kept patting her hands against Loki’s face.He reached up to grab one and plant a kiss on it.

“Looks like she found another canvas to work on,” 

Wanting to get in on this, Loki gave a wave of his hands to make some of the paint still in their jars come out into the air. You and Daphne looked up in awe at the way they spun around together and swirled into a variety of colors, having her reach up once more to catch some of it into her already paint-filled palms.

“Now that’s a work of art,” Loki stated proudly.

33 on the Little One Prompts for Loki and Daphne

Waking up to little one crying out in their sleep.

Loki — being the light sleeper he already was — was the first to hear your daughter’s soft whimpers, and was the one to go to her after doing so. He burst into her room, preparing himself for anything that can be causing his little princess such distress. He found her twisting and turning in her sleep while continuing to release little cries that reminded Loki of a helpless kitten. He immediatetly went over to her and gently shook her awake.

“Daphne, Daphne, wake up,” he whispered with a good amount of persistence.

With a gasp, she finally opened her eyes. Blinking a few times, she was starting to snap herself back to reality and saw her father crouched down next to her.

“Daddy?”

“You were crying in your sleep, little one,” Loki explained, extending his arm so he could rub her back. “Is everything all right?”

“I was having a bad dream,” she said with a sniffle.

Hearing those words come out of her mouth got his heart aching more than it already was. He understood what it meant to have such terrifying nightmares with the way the ghosts from his past would like to come around to haunt him every once in a while. He didn’t want his daughter to endure similar fears.

“I’m sorry to hear that sweetheart,” he consoled her some more. “Do you wish to talk about it?”

Daphne just shook her head at that, not wanting to relive what scared her so much. 

“Well, would you like for me to sleep in here with you?” He suggested next with a small smile. 

She looked up at him with widened eyes that were similar to his own. “Could you, Daddy?”

“Of course, my love,”

With that, he gently made her scoot over so he could join her in the bed. She immediately came to his side and snuggled into his chest. Soon a tiny yawn escaped her along with her fear.

“Don’t let the monsters get me...” she mumbled, her father’s presence comforting her enough to put her back to sleep.

Though she wasn’t able to see it, Loki gave a reassuring smile as he cuddled her closer to him and had his own drowsiness take over.

“Never...”

Was Daphne around when Loki was imprisoned in The Dark World? Can you write something about that?

“Your grandmother and I are off to see your father, my dear,” you said when entering your daughter’s chambers. “Do you wish to join us?”

Daphne avoided eye contact by focusing on sharpening her blade.

“I -- er -- have some training that I must attend,” she mumbled.

“You used that one last time I asked you,” you knelt down in front of her. “Do you truly wish to never see him again?”

With a sigh, Daphne almost lifted up her head to see you. She, at least, decided to stop feigning interest in her weapon and merely left it on her lap.

“I’ve just been mixed up about everything,” she admitted in a small voice. ��I wouldn’t really know what to say if I saw him.”

It wasn’t that she detested Loki for all that he had done. In fact, she can understand why he had done certain things. But it didn’t excuse the fact that he abandoned the two of you and had you both believe that he was dead for months. Then finding out he had gone to take over Earth where he had killed many and even tried killing her uncle Thor. It was enough to have her questions things she used to think when it came to who used to be her hero.

“Still, I’m sure he’d be grateful for your presence,” you urged some more. “Whether he’ll care to admit it or not.”

You had your own qualms when it came to these current issues with Loki. But you had decided to remain loyal and did your best to resolve your issues for the most part.

“I’m sorry, Mother,” Daphne breathed out. “I just don’t think it’s the best time.”

You wished you had more encouraging words to say to get your daughter to join you. You wished you could say all she was feeling would pass. But this had been too much for all of you. There were just some things not even a mother knew.

“Well, you know where to find me if you change your mind,” was all you were able to say.

You got up and kissed the top of her head before making your exit.

“Mother, wait!”

You stopped by the door when her voice pulled you back. You glanced back and saw Daphne press her lips together. Her eyes going to her bookshelf in the corner as she appeared to be going back and forth about something in her mind.

She went towards the shelves and skimmed through the numerous rows until taking out a particular book. You recognized it immediately as one containing a collection of plays. Ones you remembered her reading with Loki while she was growing up. You smiled to yourself as you remembered the way the two of them would each make copies of themselves when acting them out for you.

“Here,” she offered it to you in a soft voice, going back to not being able to look at you directly.

She didn’t have to say anything else. You understood. She may not have been ready to talk to him, but she hoped the book would have him know that she was missing him, nonetheless.
