Note
If i remember correctly, Simon is the only character that has a canon surname/family name—and i think you made one for Asha.
Sooo I’m curious about what are the surnames of all the characters on your rewrite! Can we get a list of them? Please 👀🙏
Aster did mention all the seven teens surnames in “Magic Mirror” but sure I’ll list all of them and why I picked them
Asha Lucero- Lucero means light, and also morning or evening star. I thought it was fitting since “Asha” means wish, so Asha’s name literally means wish star.
Dahlia Hayashi- 林, literally means "woods", to reference how it was Dahlia’s idea to go after Asha in the woods, haya also means “fast, swift” to reference how Dahlia is quick witted, and even though she needs a crutch to walk, she’s still quite fast
Safi Ayad- Arabic name that means “blessed”, thought it was ironic, since people constantly say “bless you” to him, so he’s indeed very blessed.
Bazeema Latif- Arabic name meaning gentle.
Gabo Brandt- it’s a German name that means “sword or fiery torch”, I choose to make Gabo last name German because “Gabo” is a name that comes from Germany. The name meaning just fits him really well with his fiery nature.
Dario Allegri- Italian name that means happy, not much to it, he’s just a happy boy
Hal Diallo- African name that means bold.
As for the royals
Magnus “Magnifico” of Rosas- not much explanation needed
Amaya “Amable” of Rosas
Though, before marriage her name was:
Amaya Chronis- Greek name that serves as an omen, “may they be long lived”
… Oh also I considered giving Aster a fake last name, like the king asks his full name when they first meet, and Aster panics and just blurts out the first thing that comes to mind:
Aster Novus- meaning “new”… Dude would name himself Star Nova, like, that’s hilarious to me.

The real secret behind P-51B/C/D Mustang range
The P-51 Mustang
Controlling the air proved key to controlling the ground. The long-range P-51 Mustang fighter was invaluable to the Allied victory, enabling resumption of strategic bombing after heavy losses suffered by unescorted bombers in 1943. Developed for export to Britain, models modified by the British to use Rolls-Royce Merlin engines became America’s most capable wartime fighters.
In fact, in December 1943 the first Merlin-engined P-51B/C Mustangs entered combat in Europe. These P-51s provided sorely needed long-range, high-altitude escort for the US bombing campaign against Germany.
The P-51D arrived in quantity in Europe in the spring of 1944, becoming the USAAF’s primary long range escort fighter.
Thanks to its ability to excel in long-range escort duty, the Mustang was the first single-engine plane based in Britain to penetrate Germany, first to reach Berlin and first to go with the heavy bombers over the Ploiesti oil fields in Romania.
How was the iconic Mustang able to perform such long-range escort missions? Not because of its drop tanks.
The secret behind P-51B/C/D Mustang range
‘Lots of planes could carry drop tanks: P-47, P-40, P-38, etc.,’ says James Gibson, former MP&P Engineer at Boeing, says on Quora.
‘The real secret to the Mustang’s range was not the laminar flow control wing, or the Merlin engine. It was the addition of a fuselage tank behind the cockpit halfway through production of the P-51B. This additional internal tank increased fuel capacity by 85 gallons: original P-51Bs only had 184 gallons in the wings. The addition increased total fuel to 269 gallons or some 30%. Further adding two 75 gal drop tanks you reached 419 gallons. The later D&H models carried 110 gal drop tanks for 489 gallons.
‘But when you carried so much fuel you had to be aware of which tanks you were using at which point in the flight. On take-off you used the rear fuselage tank. This tank effected the center of gravity of the plane. You didn’t want to tangle with a 109 or a Focke Wulf when carrying fuel in the rear tank. So you burned it first and then switched to the drop tanks about halfway to Berlin.’
Gibson concludes;
‘You would then burn off the drop tanks, hopefully before engaging enemy fighters. But if they struck early you could drop those tanks and thus be clean and maneuverable. This was the fight profile that allowed the Mustangs maximum range and best performance when over target.’

"On their quest to explore this new feeling in their chest, Kirby turns to Patchland's resident Fluff expert."
Fun fact: I did not mean to make Kirby's clothes resemble the nb flag. I was just looking for colours that would not break my colour palette, and it happened by accident. But it is too funny not to keep it. Plus, it works, so why fix something that ain't broken?
If anyone wants to see these outfits in full (this is also for the other outfits I have drawn for the cover art for this fic's chapters), please say so. I like designing outfits.
Ice cream/flower lore is under keep reading
The difference between vanilla and French vanilla is that the latter is made with more egg yolk and is more of a frozen custard than ice cream. Regular vanilla focuses on the cream paired with the vanilla taste. The difference between Gelato and ice cream is that Gelati is made from the base of custard and lacks eggs. There are also limited in flavours but they are smoother in texture.
So, you might probably be wondering what are Kirby and Fluff eating in the cover art. In Germany, this popular dessert called Spaghettieis was created by Dario Fontanella in the 60s after he immigrated from Italy to Germany. It is basically just ice cream/gelato made to look like spaghetti. You strain the vanilla ice cream through a pasta maker, a spätzle knife or a potato ricer to make it look like pasta. Pour strawberry sauce on it (or raspberry if the strawberry syrup is too sweet for you) and top it off with almond flakes, rasped coconut or grated white chocolate to mimic cheese. If you want to have 'meatballs' with your 'spaghetti', you can add chocolate balls to it. It is as simple as that. Usually, it is not served in a large bowl like that as it is in the cover art. But we all know Kirby's appetite, so I made it a serving bowl of Spaghettieis instead of two small plates.
Okay, for the flowers in the background. You might know some of this information already if you have read Midnight Soirée, but roses are the epitome of romance. I associate Fluff with roses, and I think he would also keep them on his balcony, so it is an environmental piece with sweet symbolism. Blue roses embody the mystique and unobtainable. Their most famous message is 'love at first sight'. But if given to someone you've been in a romantic relationship for a long time, it means 'you are still the one'. They are as whimsical as fairytales themselves, and like tall tales, they are not real. Blue roses are made of dying white roses blue. The same goes for green and black roses. Peach roses combine pink and white roses (without the anniversary or marriage meaning attached to them). They signify gratitude, admiration, sincerity, innocent affection and warm feelings.

University’s First IBM Quantum system One Computer At RPI
Tumblr media
IBM Quantum System One RPI IBM and RPI launch the first university-lot IBM Quantum System One. RPI and IBM launched the first IBM quantum computer on a university lot. structure on RPI’s bicentennial festivity of 200 times of firsts, IBM Quantum System One will meliorate educational and disquisition possibilities for the university and other New York academic institutions and organizations who want to engage with RPI. Faculty, researchers, scholars, and collaborators using the system will meliorate quantum computing disquisition, including the hunt for quantum algorithms that might lead to quantum advantage, and develop the future quantum pool with IBM.
The CurtisR. Priem Constellation focuses on the IBM Quantum System One and endowed professor speakers in the university’s major Voorhees Computing Centre Tabernacle. CurtisR. Priem’ 82, vice chairman of RPI’s Board of Trustees, bestowed to the constellation, which will allow collaborative quantum calculating disquisition at RPI.
RPI’s part as the first institution to host an IBM Quantum System One is an applicable commemoration of IBM’s bicentennial” President MartyA. Schmidt stated.” With trustee Curtis Priem’s backing and IBM’s long- term cooperation with IBM, they’ll use sophisticated computing for global problem- working and educate future quantum specialists to produce the Capital Region’s own’ Quantum Valley’ IBM’s scholars want to use quantum computing to break IBM’s biggest problems, and I’m interested to see how IBM’s instructors and scholars use quantum to meliorate the future.
IBM is happy to strengthen its RPI cooperation. Together, IBM can advance quantum wisdom, engineering, and disquisition’, IBM Chairman and CEO Arvind Krishna stated.” This collaboration will help explore some of the world’s most complex problems and train the coming generation of quantum experts.
A 127- qubit IBM Quantum’ Eagle’ processor powers RPI’s new IBM Quantum System One, giving researchers, scholars, and mates direct access to a avail- scale quantum computer. IBM Eagle performed more accurate computations than brute- force simulations in 2023. This marked the morning of quantum avail, an period in which quantum systems can be used as scientific tools to study problems in chemistry, medicines, paraphernalia, and other fields to find quantum advantage the point at which a quantum computer can break a problem better than any classical system.
The RPI system joins IBM’s worldwide line of avail- scale quantum computers in the pall and at specialized customer locales, including systems in the US, Canada, Germany, Japan, and South Korea and Spain. IBM’s world- class scholars, researchers, and instructors will drive the worldwide race to uncover more complicated quantum as quantum computing technology and software evolve. Quantum technology is creating a new computer branch for the first time.” IBM can’t do this alone,” said IBM Senior Vice President and Director of Research and RPI board member Dario Gil.”
IBM must unite with worldwide network of mates, including top sodalities and disquisition institutes like RPI, to find and develop new algorithms for quantum computers’ hardest problems. IBM will achieve this by creating a quantum pool and training the coming generation how to use these bias.” RPI and IBM have a rich history of technical cooperation.
RPI houses the AI Multiprocessing Optimised System. AiMOS, the most important classical supercomputer at a private institution in the US, uses POWER9 CPU and NVIDIA GPU technologies to probe new AI operations.” As an RPI graduate and a trustee deeply invested in RPI’s charge and future, partnering with IBM to introduce quantum computing on IBM’s lot was a natural step forward,” said RPI vice chairman CurtisR. Priem, Class of 1982.” RPI’s commitment to furnishing scholars with access to slice- edge tools and ubiquitous computing is consummate, and integrating an IBM Quantum System One helps ensure doing are part to develop hereafter’s quantum pool.”
Unveiling the IBM Quantum System One during RPI’s bicentennial time is a befitting statement about IBM’s commitment to technological leadership and invention during the university’s third century,” John Kelly, RPI Class of 1978.” The RPI community looks forward to seeing how IBM’s faculty, scholars, mates will work together to explore quantum computing’s operations in health, medicinals, sustainability, artificial intelligence, public security, and more.” RPI has the first IBM Quantum System One on lot and may design new quantum classes and educational programmes to upskill the quantum pool.
This innovative cooperation will expedite quantum computing disquisition and educate the coming generation of computer workers, as well as strengthen IBM’s region’s standing as a worldwide centre for slice- edge technology. Through sweats like the CHIPS and Science Act and collaborations like this one, IBM are paving the road for invention and high- tech manufacturing in IBM’s Capital Region, keeping IBM’s cosmopolises at the van of technology.”
Since June 2023, RPI has hosted IBM experts for introductory lectures and forums to help scholars comprehend quantum computing’s eventuality. Now, devoted access to leading quantum attack and software, important supercomputing resources, and educational and technical support from IBM will help scholars develop chops across quantum and classical computing paradigms, accelerating New York’s coming- generation computing leadership.
About RPI Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, founded in 1824 to” making wisdom applicable to everyday life,” was the first US technical disquisition organization. Its comprehensive and holistic knowledge community that integrates creativity, wisdom, and technology makes it a top institution. RPI shapes the scientists, engineers, technicians, masterminds, and entrepreneurs who will shape humanity’s future and conductscross-corrective disquisition to attack the world’s biggest issues.

Prologue
Cora…
It’s been three weeks.
I think.
I scratch a mark on the stone wall by the horrible little toilet in the corner every day. I don’t want him to see the marks, so it seems like the right place. He is fastidious - and there’s an irony - and would rather switch to a vegan diet than get near anything related to bodily functions.
He comes to see me every day. I think it’s every day though I can’t prove it. There are no windows in here, just stone walls, a stone floor, and the mattress in the corner opposite the toilet and sink. The single light bulb above me always stays on, a thing I’ve come to see as a privilege since I spent the first few days in the pitch black until He made me promise to behave.
I hear footsteps down the hall outside my metal door, and I steel myself, He’s coming.
The evil bastard.
The fucking troll.
Bringing fresh clothes and a little food and water, He smiles as if greeting me is the highlight of his day.
“Hallo kleines, little one,” He says fondly.
“Hello, Herr Schmidt,” I reply through my teeth, gritting them against the waterfall of obscenities that want to pour from me.
He smiles down at me fondly, just out of reach of the length of the chain attached to the floor and the manacle on my ankle. He made that mistake just once, coming within reach and the thick scabs down His left cheek and neck are still healing.
“And how did you sleep, kleines?”
“Quite well, thank you.” I almost gag as I say the words.
“Good, good!” He says warmly, “Because I have a surprise for you later. Why don’t you tidy up?” He chuckles at my expression and leaves, the steel door clicking shut behind him.
My legs are water and I fall to my knees, wrapping my arms around my midsection, pressing my forehead to the rough stone.
I will get out of here.
I will kill Him.

Chapter One
Dario…
“Soaring Eagle, are you in position?”
There was a click in my earpiece and an exhausted sigh. “Really, Dario?”
I chuckle, checking my ammo clip. “Stealth mission, brother. Refer to me as Big Daddy D.”
“I am not calling you Big Daddy D,” Yuri Morozov snarled.
“You just did,” I said gleefully. “Is your team in position?”
“Yes,” Yuri hissed, “west and south points. Also, I’m going to beat the shit out of you when this mission is finished.”
Shrugging, I said, “If it’s not to the death, it doesn’t count.”
“And you wonder why no one ever wanted to spar with you at the Ares Academy,” he said. “Perimeter alarm disabled.”
“Syncing time and coordinates…” I murmur, checking my digital readout.
Looking up at the six men with me, I remind them, “Extraction. Do everything you can to keep the target alive. He could be an invaluable source of information. The fucker’s not the only cannibal on the dark web, he can lead us to countless more, along with crucial information on where he’s sourcing these women.”
Cracking my neck, I look at the impenetrable forest around us. It’s midnight, and the trees soar up so high, they’re blotting out any light from the moon.
“You’re going to want to shoot this motherfucker in the gut when you see what’s inside.” Nodding to our newest team member, who is sweaty but determined, “Casey, you’ve got Carlos and Mikhal with you. Pull every scrap of data you can before we detonate the charges.”
“Why don’t we take this freak, but leave his little cannibal palace for the German Federal Intelligence Service?” Casey asks, “Schmidt needs to be exposed for the sick fuck he is.”
I chuckle mirthlessly. “Because a member of his fucked-up flesh eaters club is in the F.I.S. We just don’t know who. They’re more likely to find out about us if we leave anything behind.”
He nods rapidly. “Gotcha. Sound logic. Agreed.”
Putting my hand on his shoulder, I ask, “Can you do this?”
Casey snorts. “I’ve got your two best guys covering me. I’m wearing a badass tactical suit that makes me look like a ninja. Yeah. I got this. Really,” he insists when I raise my eyebrow, “I look fucking great in this tach suit.”
Yuri swore this guy was the best…
“On my mark,” I raise my hand, watching the digital readout. “Three… two… one…”
Clenching my raised hand into a fist, I fight back the tidal wave of adrenaline.
“Go!”
***
Left to my own devices, I would have blown the front of this motherfucker’s mansion clean off the foundations and swept through, shooting anyone who wasn’t his captive. My older brother Giovanni, the Don of the Toscano Mafia and the most boring asshole alive, insisted on the stealth approach.
“Schmidt’s notorious for booby-trapping the hell out of the forest for a 1,600-meter circumference of the house,” he’d warned me. “And once you get in, there’s a dozen failsafe options guaranteed to kill everyone he’s holding hostage. Take the time to plan this out.”
Smug bastard.
However, he was right. We took much longer than I wanted to, mapping the area to make a safe approach - this asshole had landmines and deadfalls seeded everywhere around his estate - but we’re finally here. Three trucks drop us off at the far perimeter wall and head for the pickup point by the main gate.
Between the Morozov Bratva and the Toscano Famiglia, we have twenty men here. Schmidt is not getting past us.
Racing quietly through the brush, I circle my hand over my head, spreading my men out around the house. This hellhole is in the middle of one of the most magnificent forests in the world, but there’s not a scrap of vegetation around it for several meters; just sterile concrete with pressure pads to alert him of anyone approaching. It is a black steel and glass monstrosity, three stories with a tower that soars nearly above the trees. Casey’s disabled the exterior surveillance cameras and we have exactly five minutes to get from the cover of the brush into the house before we’re spotted.
The dark glass surrounding the house actually gives it a closed-in, paranoid appearance, as if Schmidt is constantly watching for intruders in every direction.
I had seen him once at an auction to purchase young women. He has pale blue eyes, so pale they look like weak, skimmed milk.
Maybe I’ll start his questioning by plucking one of them right out of his skull, I think, grinning in a way that makes one of my own men flinch as he looks at me.
My team is going down to the lower level of the building, as Yuri’s men move upward, scaling the walls to enter through the roof. There’s a helicopter perched there, and I watch Yuri’s lieutenant wire an explosive charge to the engine.
There’s a faint click in my ear as Yuri murmurs, “There are three guards patrolling the roof and upper floor.”
“The intel shows he usually keeps ten here,” I said. “I’m sending my second team in to the garage to disable his cars. We took down two guards on the perimeter, with your three, there’s at least five unaccounted for. I’m heading into the basement now.”
“Good luck,” Yuri said grimly. I picked the lower level because we know any captives Schmidt keeps will likely be there.
“Remember,” I murmur into my team’s earpieces, “kill the guards quietly. If there are captives, we don’t want them screaming and alerting anyone. Our team’s job is to get them out safely. That is your first priority.”
Looking over my shoulder, I see their grim determination. We may be from the Famiglia, but there are far more evil fucks in this world than us. Most of these men have wives and children of their own, it’s too easy seeing the faces of the people we love when encountering the victims of monsters like Schmidt.
The massive steel door leading to the lower level is blast-proof, fireproof, and opened by a biometric scanner. Casey steps up and pulls up a handheld device. He’s created an AI version of Schmidt, with a perfect voice, fingerprint, and cornea match. He flashes me a grin when the indicator switches from red to green.
I pat him on the cheek and nod to his backup. “Keep him safe.”
They head up the stairs while I stare down the long hallway. The bright overhead fixtures send light reflecting off white enamel walls, floor, and ceiling and it’s almost blinding. There’s a lingering scent of hospital-level antiseptic and a feel of almost grotesque sterility. Ten doors stretch down the hall, five on each side.
“How many girls do you think Schmidt’s got here?” Lorenzo, my second, looks at me, his mouth tight with disgust.
I put my hand on his shoulder and shove him out of sight as two of Schmidt’s guards come clattering down the stairs.
“You think he would share,” one grumbles, “it’s not like he’s fucking them.”
Whatever his partner’s answer might have been is cut off as I end them both with a quick bullet. Looking up, I see the amber light blinking on the security camera. Good. Casey’s inserted a video loop, it will take fifteen minutes or so for anyone monitoring the security feed to spot the anomaly.
His next step is remotely disabling the biometric locks on each door. I take one side of the hall, and Lorenzo takes the other while our other men guard the stairs and entryway.
The first two rooms are empty, both grey stone rooms fashioned to look like a dungeon, right down to the chains bolted into the floors. The next door opens and Lorenzo’s breath leaves him in a sigh. “We’ve got one, but she must be gone. These injuries… there’s no way. I’ll check her vitals to be sure.”
Rooms four, five, and six are empty. Room seven is not.
“Ah, cazzo, fuck!” I hiss. “Edoardo, get in here! I think this one’s still alive.” He’s our medic, the horror on his face makes my heart clench as he pushes past me, kneeling by the mattress, picking up her limp hand to search for a pulse.
Rooms eight and nine hold the lifeless remains of this monster’s games, the stench of death not quite covered by the aggressive antiseptic smell from the hall. I’m at the last door in the nauseatingly white hallway and about to open the door when gunfire sprays down the stairs.
We all take cover, and I dive through door number ten.
“Sorry brother, you’ve got eight guards charging down to the basement,” Yuri’s voice crackles in my ear.
“Yeah, thanks for letting me know,” I snarl, shooting one of the new men wielding an AR-15, and then the one behind him. “Where did these fuckers come from?”
“Through the front gate,” he said grimly. “We must have missed one of the pressure sensors during the approach.”
“Get Schmidt and go,” I said. “Pull the charge off his helicopter and fly him out. You’ve got your pilot with you, yes?”
Yuri snorted, “Don’t waste your time getting noble on me now. We came in together, we leave together. Can you take out those eight?”
“Oh, yeah,” I assure him.
My men are barricaded in the doorways, shooting back at the newcomers as I shout into my headset, “Cover your ears!”
Whistling, I pull a flashbang grenade from my belt and hurl it down the hallway. The resulting shockwave of noise and light shorts out my earpiece, and I’m a little disappointed I can’t hear the screams of Schmidt’s men as my team mows them down.
As the gunfire dies down, I turn to sweep the room, rifle up and I see her.
Painfully thin, her ankle horribly bruised from her shackle, and enormous green eyes. Too wide, like a spooked horse.
I clicked on my headset again. “We have a survivor!”

Wild Bunch’s Vincent Maraval & Brahim Chioua Talk New Era As They Move On From The Company’s Iconic Name: “I’ve Been Through My Period Of Mourning” — Deadline Q&A
January 13, 2023
At a party in Paris on Thursday evening, original Wild Bunch co-founders Vincent Maraval and Brahim Chioua bid farewell to the legendary company name they created in 2002.
The move cements the separation of their assets from the pan-European Wild Bunch AG film group, which was created in 2015 out of the merger of their original French company Wild Bunch and Germany’s Senator Film and is now majority-owned by German entrepreneur Lars Windhorst.
This means Wild Bunch AG no longer owns its 20% stake in the independent standalone international sales company Maraval and Chioua and their 15-strong team launched in 2019 under the banner of Wild Bunch International (WBI).
The company is now been majority owned by Maraval and Chioua and its staff, with CAA also holding a 20% stake.
WBI has continued to dominate at major markets and festivals, handling sales on established A-list festival regulars.
The company also launched boutique feature animation-focused sales label Gebeka International in partnership with French animation specialist Gebeka, while Maraval also continues to work with Kim Fox at Santa Monica-based sales company The Veterans, in which WBI has a 50% stake alongside MadRiver Pictures.
Maraval and Chioua have also steered the company towards development and production with the creation of Wild West, a joint venture with film company Capricci aimed at developing and producing genre fare, as well as Le Collectif 64 with the producer Marc Dujardin.
Outside the company umbrella, Maraval, Chioua and Noëmie Devide launched the indie production label Getaway Films in 2019, which has since produced Alexandra Aja’s Netflix Original Oxygen as well as Michel Hazanavicius’s Cannes 2022 opener Final Cut and Dario Argento’s comeback melo-horror Dark Glasses.

Wild Bunch International Reveals New Name – Does It Amuse You?
March 29, 2023

Wild Bunch’s Vincent Maraval Talks Cannes, Venice, Netflix & Industry Opportunities — San Sebastian
September 19, 2022
The topic of streaming loomed large over the first session of San Sebastian’s new Creative Investors’ Conference featuring a keynote by Wild Bunch co-founder Vincent Maraval.
During the lengthy and wide-ranging session, Maraval was joined by CAA Media Finance’s Roeg Sutherland who asked him the extent to which he deals with Netflix, to which he responded: “Of course, I will deal with Netflix.”
Wild Bunch previously struck a lucrative deal with the streamer on a Studio Ghibli catalogue and has also reportedly sold new Johnny Depp film Jeanne Du Barry to the company for France.
“I think it is our chance,” Maraval said of the streamer. “And I think the chance of Netflix is cinema. If Netflix wants to survive against better-capitalized companies like Amazon and Apple their chance is through cinema.”
Maraval later added that he is very “positive” about the streamer and the only reservation he has about working with them is that his first directive for any film he handles is that it is released theatrically.
Maraval’s comments on streamers and theatrical distribution quickly prompted Sutherland to press him for his opinion on the challenged relationship between the Cannes Film Festival and Netflix. Maraval’s Wild Bunch has long enjoyed a large presence at the festival. This year, the company screened 12 films across the festival’s sections. Netflix films, however, haven’t played in the Cannes Official Selection since 2017.
Cannes’ approach to Netflix wasn’t the only issue Maraval identified in the international festival market. Later in the session, Maraval highlighted what he described as an equally challenging issue with the way the Venice Film Festival has embraced Netflix.
“I think Venice is doing the total opposite mistake, which is that the four first days of Venice look like the Netflix film festival,” he said. “Ted Sarandos is on the red carpet welcoming people. And I think Venice sold its soul to Netflix. But I think refusing films because they are not going out theatrically is a mistake. I think someone who selects movies should focus on the quality of the film.”

Wild Bunch International’s Vincent Maraval on Taking a Bet on Johnny Depp, the Need to Take Risks
Backing a film in which Johnny Depp will play French King Louis XV is what Wild Bunch International head Vincent Maraval describes as part of the risk taking that is essential to this business.
In a keynote interview with CAA Media Finance’s Roeg Sutherland at San Sebastian’s first Creative Investors Conference on Monday, Maraval discussed his 23 years in the business – failing to bet on “Black Swan,” but going for it with Depp’s first film since the Amber Heard trial.
Netflix is releasing this French-language production on SVOD, after a theatrical release in France. Wild Bunch is handling international sales.
Maraval said during the keynote that his “Jeanne du Barry” partner Netflix was positive for the business.
“Netflix is a real force for us,” he said. “Of course I work with them, and I think their chance to survive is cinema. The studios controlled 90% of the market. For the first time in history, there is an independent company that has control. We know it won’t last, and that it will be a parenthesis in history that the independents controlled the business. People complain about them but I think it’s our chance.”
He added: “We need to be able to take advantage of the streaming business to get stronger. I think that cinema distribution will survive for sure but it will be different.”

Wild Bunch’s Vincent Maraval On The “Huge Growth Potential” Of The Saudi Film Market And Its Similarities With China
December 5, 2022
Wild Bunch co-founder Vincent Maraval drew comparisons between the burgeoning film industry in Saudi Arabia with that of China during a business-focused keynote at the Red Sea film festival this morning.
“When I started working, like, 25-30 years ago, the Middle East was basically Lebanon,” he said. “Today that has all changed. The growth of the region in terms of box office, streamers, and Netflix is coming, but most of the streamers will come. What happened in Saudi Arabia in the last five years is on a scale very comparable to the growth rate of Chinese exportation.”
He added that there is “huge growth potential” to be had in Saudi Arabia as well as the whole MENA region, but industry professionals must establish a greater understanding of audience consumption and taste in the region now and in the future.
“There is also a huge potential not only here, but it will probably be the same in Africa too,” he said. “We can see there’s a middle class in Africa coming and subscribing to streaming services and going to the cinema. They are building theaters.”

"The cinema market is all about exceptions", according to Vincent Maraval
12/01/2023 - The head of Wild Bunch International sheds light on the current state of affairs at the Unifrance Film Meetings in Paris
"On the American market, when it comes to the independent film sector, the traditional model has been replaced by the streaming model. Independent film has disappeared from cinemas. The American market is still more reliant on blockbusters. But studios are beginning to return to cinema releases, as Warner has done with one-to-two-month cinema windows. Broadly speaking, I think that’s the right kind of chronology for today’s world. As for the fabric of independent American producers, I believe it’s disappeared, because when you’re producing for platforms you’re not really independent anymore. Moreover, many of them have opted for series, which has left a hole. Foreign cinema, meanwhile, is hardly ever released in American cinemas now, unless for advertising purposes before dropping on platforms."
"That said, there does tend to be a pendulum effect, in the long term: we saw the rapid expansion of Miramax, for example, and the studios’ subsidiaries disappearing, etc. But it only took The King’s Speech [+] for all this to be reversed, because it’s always the exceptions which dictate trends and the market. Nevertheless, it’s possible that a certain type of viewer – sophisticated, well-off – has left cinemas behind because they’ve developed new habits. But, more generally speaking, I don’t believe the American market, which has been the focal point for film exports for a long time, is the market to watch anymore."

I'm currently watching Dario Argento's Inferno and I barely know what the plot is, but honestly, it doesn't really matter? Lol. The murders are so aesthetically pleasing and the cinematography as well. But I did read Mario Bava worked on this so it explains. I don't think it's near as good as Suspiria, but worth the watch to catch up on the trilogy.
Also, i find that it doesn't matter if it's a town in Germany, Rome or New York, it all looks the same in the Argento series.
