All the relevant characters for the "movie" + Jay and Carlos who would be introduced in the follow up "series"

Hopefully these descriptions will give you a good idea of the plot of said movie when you put them all together, and I hope you guys get a good general idea of everyone and what their deals are

what would you do if you write descendants?

1. Make the kids have like, real names, not based off their parents. Maybe try to pull from the actual fairytales their parents come from?

2. Honestly I’d try and just do that overall, tying it back to the og stories and such

3. I’d actually pair up the VKs with their corresponding HKs, not necessarily meaning romantically pairing but thematically. The kids who’s parents have personal beef should be actually clashing and learning together

4. Have Melody there! Heck have Glauco there. Pull from the deep Disney lore, make it an actual nerd fest for the references and whatnot, use it to celebrate Disney’s long and varied history

5. Not have the whole “The Heroes resurrected the Villains to punish them more”— cuz that’s insane and makes them look incredibly vindictive. If you want them all alive have some Uber-villain resurrecting them and the Isle is their villain base where they all plot on how to attack the Heroes. Maybe they have the kids go in doing a Kovu maneuver, they ask to be taken in away from their parents as an infiltration move, but then they realize “ oh wait…our parents are the Bad Guys and actually treat us all really bad and as cannon fodder actually”

6. Have the Parents be actually decent people like in their movies?? And not have all the HKs be shallow brats, their parents would not raise them that way. And if the only way to make your anti-hero kids look sympathetic is to have everyone else be a Jerk, that’s just lazy writing

7. Not have it be weirdly modern day. If we must have the heroes all existing at the same time and they want a modern’ element, maybe do something like Ella Enchanted did? Like, we have Ye Olde Mall and there’s peasants cranking the escalator xD

Anyway that’s just some basic thoughts xD

Things my Rewrite Will Fix About Descendants - Kingdom Names

I'VE DONE IT!!

Anyway, one thing (there are multiple though, let's be honest) that particularly irked me about the Descendants franchise would be the names of the kingdoms. While "Auradon" has a nice ring to it, some of the names of the other smaller kingdoms/locations leave something to be desired.

So for my rewrite series, Barriers (and for my second rewrite WIP that has yet to be named), I decided to rename the ones I didn't like.

Charmington -> Edenwald, Snow White and Florian's Kingdom

First of all, if any of the kingdoms were going to be named "Charmington", why wouldn't it be the kingdom from Cinderella? Originally, I wanted to swap Charmington for Cinderellasburg, so naturally, the old Charmington would need a new name. I wanted the name of the kingdom to reference the Enchanted Forest in Snow White, so Eden was the first name to come to mind (meaning paradise, but also referencing the Garden of Eden in the story of Adam and Eve from the Bible, which also parallels well to Snow White being the first Disney Princess). But "Eden" felt somewhat incomplete. Eventually, adding the "wald" (meaning forest in German, which is where the story of Snow White originates) at the end gave it a much more fitting name imo.

Cinderellasburg -> Charmont, Kit/Charles/Henry/Christopher and Cinderella's Kingdom

Don't get me wrong, I love Cinderella (somehow even more now than I did before), but why would they name a region after some commoner? Yes, her story's inspiring, but not inspiring enough to rename a kingdom in her honor. Having the kingdom named "Charmington", where the Charmings rule felt fitting at first. But, the more I looked at "Charmington", the more "Charmington" felt like a clothing store or a medieval amusement park. I wanted to incorporate "Charm" as a prefix , and took the suffix from "argent" (meaning silver in French, which is the color of Cinderella's dress) and changed the e to an o.

Auroria -> Aetheria, Aurora and Phillip's Kingdom

I almost left "Auroria" alone because it sounds so pretty and ethereal and whimsical. I could believe that either Aurora was named after "Auroria" or "Auroria" was named after Aurora and I was willing to let that be that. All I did was add ia to aether, and that sounded prettier to me lmao.

Auradon -> Beaumier, Adam and Belle's Kingdom

This one is specifically for my second rewrite. In this fic verse, all of the united kingdoms are still called "The United Kingdoms of Auradon". However, Adam and Belle are not the monarchs ruling over all the other kingdoms, therefore their specific kingdom needs a name. I wanted the name to be French inspired, and the name "Beau" felt fitting given it means "beautiful" or "handsome" like "Belle". "Beau" is also a nice little callback to the writer of the original fairytale in 1756, Jeanne-Marie Leprince de Beaumont AND to one of the villages the setting is based on, Ribeauvillé. All I did after that was research names of places that had "Beau" in the name, and I came across Beaumier Hotels.

And nothing for Seaside, because A.) All of the other names I came up with sound too corny (and I don't like Tirulia) and B.) Seaside's growing on me.

Wow, it's incredible how every character on Disney Descendants is canonically transgender :0 I can't belive Disney did that!!

Not pictured: Agrabah, China, the Americas, London, Isle of the Lost. Incorporating real places is hard and so is making maps, and I didn’t have the space. The grey section on the left is a land bridge that would connect the fictionalizations of these locations. (Also I couldn’t decide where I wanted the Isle.)

If you were to fix all the Descendants movies, how would you do it? From the plot to characters and character development.

I already wrote an outline of my version of D2

But in short all the characters gets arcs and development across the movies

Audrey's character gets explored mainly how she overseen by her grandma a lot generational trauma and how it's not helping Audrey grow as a person

Ben is no longer a trophy husband. He has equal say in his relationship and active in the plot. Also Belle and Beast aren't abusive

Chad is not the Jerk™ that everyone hates but someone who genuinely wants to be Prince Charming/Hero but has very serious flaws to overcome. He gets this chance rescuing an unexpected damsel in distress Dizzy

Auradon is in its own dimension; basically alternate history earth

The isle of the lost is actually not where Villains live; it's a place where anyone can go to of they are feeling lost in life. They can only leave if they chose to overcome a personal challenge

The Sea3 and their crew gets more development plus Prince Hans is there cuz ✨redemption✨

Evie, Carlos and Jay all possess magic abilities; Carlos the power to talk to animals, Jay the power of invisibility and Evie transfiguration magic. Also they have their own stories

Hades and Maleficent is NOT canon that's just a crackship that gone horribly wrong. Hades is instead with an OC inspired by Persephone (not the actual goddess tho)

None of the parents arr abusive though they do have toxic traits stemming from generational trauma (we don't want our families hurt by villains who have no qualms about hurting children)

The new Lead is my oc Paige, a normal girl with no established disney connections. She comes from Our World as an outsider would provide a unique view and tbh less risk of turning into a mary sue (like what happened with Mal)

The AKs aren't props they get established personalities and don't exist to be bullies to the VKs

A clear magic system: Fairy Godmother is strong but not as strong as the literal greek gods; Ariel and Melody can only turn into mermaids through Triton; the kids can use magic but not strong spells plus the magical items are kept under strict lock

Lonnie gets a name change and actual Chinese motifs then "throw in everything that looks Chinese!"

More disney characters like the actual characters not just extras in ugly outfits

It is an international school so no weird MURICA FUCK YEAH undertones (like c'mon AMERICAN FOOTBALL 💀 shouldn't they be playing soccer instead)

Instead of racism allegories it is more of Class disparities; as well as the idea of redemption and that community is better than exile/jail

Ben and Paige don't get married; they're still teens so they have a lot to explore

The main couples are: Ben&Paige, Chad/Audrey, Huma, Jane x Doug, Jay x OC, Carlos x OC and Evie x OC; plus oc x canon and other canon x canon

And that's just scratching the surface. :]

Descendants redesigns: Jane

...Yeah

This is one of those "in name only" redesigns, cause like I basically used nothing from the original. Jane was such a waste of a good and adorable actress.

My new version of Jane would be introduced in the hypothetical series post the hypothetical movie, she is the Fairy Godmother's adoptive granddaughter and works for Charles Charming. She's basically assigned herself as Charles' fairy godmother. She is hot on Mal and Evie's pursuit, wanting to arrest and capture them to prove herself to everyone including herself. Only problem, she's the same size as Tinkerbell and doesn't have a magic wand. So she's kinda shit outta luck but gosh is she TRYING.

So she's more of an antagonist than anything and she is very high strung Kinda love her tbh she's my little scrunkly

For the Descendants kids with horrible and trashy names, how would you name them? From books and movies.

So I'll just go ahead and give how I changed each name for My Canon Descendants AU, to make them feel more like their own character/fit better with the og movies time periods/cultures. I didn't give them all unique names as the point of the project was to translate the Descendants kids into the actual movies, not make full OCs, (though I did end up making a few of those anyway xD) but I tried to at least adjust them.

Mal--Mallow (to go with the Nature name theme the Three Good Fairies had going on with their own names/Briar Rose)

Audrey I kept as it was actually a Medieval name!

Evie-- Eva, it's a pretty easy fix to more period accurate/Germanic sounding

Doug -- Doleful, to fit better with the Dwarfs Attribute names, plus he seemed kinda down in the first movie so the meaning felt like it fit

Carlos I kept because honestly I felt like it could fit in universe if Cruella's husband was a Spanish man, which he conceivabley could be

Jay--Jaamil, and no not because of Twisted Wonderland that just happened by accident xD

They orginally had Aladdin's deleted sin be named Aziz but there was already an Aladdin character named that in the TV show who was a villain so I changed it to Ahmed, like one of the other Arabian Nights heroes

Ben--I changed from Benjamin to Benedict as that was more French/period appropriate

Honestly I could 100% see Gaston naming his sons after himself so I kept Gastons 1 and 2 but I changed Gil to Gilbert (French pronunciation of course)

Lonnie...oh Lonnie. I changed her name to Chi, as with her patronymic of Li she would be Li Chi, which sounded similar to Lonnie but would actually be Chinese and is the name of a girl in a Chinese legend who slays a dragon, which was what I based her hypothetical movie plot on

Chad I changed to Charles, easy enough. Much more elegant and formal

Jane I just changed to Janet to make it a little fancier/Frenchier as well xD

Dizzy I changed to Daisy (though I suppose since she's French based, it really should be Marguerite...eh Daisy can be the nickname)

Uma I kept cuz honestly its a good name and her song is a banger 👌

Harry is fine, good pirate name, short for Henry, which also works. Harriet was fine too, just made her and Harry twins and made CJ go by her first name only of Calista.

Honestly with a pirate dad named Smee Squeeky and Squirmy also work, though they're definitely nicknames.

Celia works fine, it fits with the time/culture of 1920s New Orleans, though I did change Freddie to Frederique.

Getting into some book characters now:

Artie I changed to Amhar, a lesser known son of Arthur (could have done Mordred but as the kid was meant to be heroic I decided to go with Amhar, plus it started with A x)

Mad Maddy honestly isn't a bad name, but I did change it to Matilda to be a bit more Medieval sounding, plus linked her to Matilda of the Night, a Medieval witch legend.

(And apparently there's gonna be a son of Morgana Le Fay in the new movie named... Morgie. My gosh. Well we'll change that right back to Yvain. Her actual son, no she's not Mordred's mother no matter what the movies try to tell you she's his aunt and I will die on this pedantic hill)

Hadie I instantly changed to Zagreus. He's the literal son of Hades and goodness its such a better name. Same with changing Herkie to Hyllus. Also an actual son of Hercules and doesn't sound like a euphemism for throwing up.

Allie I changed to Mary Jean after the Real Alice's grandaughter, and when I made my Queen of Hearts Kid D4 hadn't been announced yet so I named her Aceline (a pun on Ace of Hearts)

Ruby and Anxelin weren't terrible names so I kept them, just made Anxelin a Dark Kingdom name xD (and apparently they're giving Rapunzel a third daughter in the new movie? Her name is just Zellie though...so I think I'll just keep these two. Zellie could definitely work as being short for Anxelin and hey, Rapunzel had twins in the actual fairytale so two just works)

Wrapping it up:

Claudine isnt too bad and fits the time period but I changed her parent from Frollo to his brother Jehan cuz that man should never ever get to be with any woman.

Clay Clayton I changed to Cecil after the actual Clayton character in the books who wasn't that bad of a guy.

Yzla works fine as a name for Yzma's daughter. I just changed Zevon to Yzon to match better and not sound so much like he escaped the 23rd century

Ginny Gothel I just lengthened out to Ginevra to sound more fantastical

I didn't actually do anything for Pocahontas as it always kinda controversial to touch. But if I did I'd of course just make her descendant her actual son Thomas Rolfe and apparently they gave Ratcliffe a son named Rick? So...we'll change his name to Richard or--well one sec let me see if Actual Historical Governor Ratcliffe had any kids.

OK! Looks like he didn't but he did die horribly. My Gosh.

Anyway I think that's everyone!

I do think most of the VKs are queer but in the way that they dont really believe in labels like gay or straight, they just kinda like who they like and their “sexualities” are more preferences than labels, and while some definitely lean harder to one side or the other, most of them dont really see gender when it comes to dating. Uma, however, is for sure the closest thing to what auradon would classify as a lesbian

So this definitely seems Interesting. I'm in my last few weeks of high school with National exams all the way to June 16 which will keep me occupied, but after that, I'm free to contemplate what I will do for the rest of my life.
