the more i think about Oppenheimer the more disappointed i get because at its core it’s such an interesting story to tell. like the whole manhattan project catapulted the entire world into a new atomic era that we could never go back from whether we were ready for it or not. and the fallout from the project not only changed and devastated the lives of hundreds of thousands of people (including of course the victims in hiroshima and nagasaki + the people living in new mexico where they tested the bomb) and the continued generational trauma of the bombs. also just the general mass panic and fear that the Cold War instilled into every citizen in the states who were literally waiting to one day be just annihilated by a nuclear attack. the whole creation of the atomic bomb had so much impact on the world. so doing a deep character study of both oppenheimer and his colleagues on the moral ambiguity of their work in the project and the outcome of it is such a great movie concept. but the film didn’t feel like that at all. instead Nolan gave us the watered down story that he’s best at and spent almost three hours forcing us to watch whether oppenheimer had to lose his disneyland government fast-pass due to his communist ties or not (spoiler: he does) and how strauss doesn’t like him because he got his feewlings hurt once. all the other scientists and physicists were given one or two minutes of screen time and were really just names to a face. the actual bombs creation was given a sidelong glance and trivial explanation at best. and of course to tie it all off the main female side characters were either naked/having sex for 80% of their screen time or was given the character depth of a piece of tissue paper

It’s not often I get a specific song in mind when reading a scene.
But when the foxes play the ravens, and they go on court, and Kevin has his racquet in his left hand again…7 nation army comes to mind. This is not a song I would ever really choose to listen to, but it belongs juuust there.
Jean just has a sad sort of playlist. Like Evermore by Taylor Swift levels of sad. (He’s my favourite)

What are your thoughts about Ray?
I think Ray, despite his brovo and the show he puts on for everyone, including himself, is just the way he masks his insecurities.
That's heavily hinted at in the show, and as a character, he's written so well, but nickelodeon lacks the ability to execute his character development and angst to the fullest potential making him appear shallow rather then deeply depressed.
I think there's also a deep internalized emptiness he tries to fill. He's been training his whole childhood to be this one thing, and he's it. He became the hero he was supposed to be, so why does he feel like such a failure- Why is it not enough?
The only thing that shuts up the nagging insecurities is his own voice of praise and the attention of others. He'll constantly consume them as if they could fill the hole inside his soul.
So, oftentimes, he projects this twisted toxic masculinity that delutes in his decisions. Which, when matched with his messed up sense of morality, can be reckless.
He's been indestructible since he was eight, he's lost that primal sense of danger, and he has to manually remind himself of every risk.
This is why I think he unintentionally puts Henry in danger sometimes. Ray probably hates himself for it every time he sees his sidekick narrowly escape a trap he fails to see, or feels a sinking guilt every time he watches Henry bleed in a way Ray can't.
It happens more often than he'd like, but everytime he's filled with that gnawing dread, that sinking reminder that he's more like his irresponsible scientist dad than he'd like to be.
This time, he's the one hurting a kid for the sake of heroism... but Ray can't let him go, or his dorky friends. They're the closest he's ever felt to having a family. Being with them heals something inside, something he didn't know was broken.

Sky using all your CPU? It's more likely than you think.
I wrote this in a comment on a Reddit post of someone complaining that Sky isn't using their GPU properly and that it's stuttering for them. However, it's detailed enough that I feel like it deserves its own post in this blog. As always, this is a very technical post. But if you like seeing how games work behind the scenes, then this might be for you.
There are many reasons why Sky doesn't use your GPU as much compared to other games. It's actually a common issue in many games, and while the general reasoning is the same, the details of it can vary. The short version is that it uses the CPU a whole lot more than your GPU. Hence, it's not using a lot of power because increasing it won't have much of an effect. The bottleneck isn't on GPU speed, and that's what higher power draw tries to address. It also does most of its work on one thread, which means that it won't display a high CPU usage, as that counts work done on all logical processors. The long version is a technical explanation of how Sky was designed and the resulting implementation decisions that were done because of it.
Disclaimer: I cannot confirm these because I do not have access to Sky's source code. All of these are hypotheses based on the game's visible behavior and general development decision making.
Long version below the cut. (This isn't in the actual comment, but this is a blog post. Come on now.)
A lot of things that Sky does is CPU-bound. As an example, unless it's been updated along with the AURORA concert which used GPU-bound procedural animations, the animations of the butterflies are done on the CPU. They created the butterfly animation system long before the AURORA concert, and with only around 80 butterflies at any given time instead of 100 thousand, it doesn't make sense to go through the trouble of making their animations run on the GPU. Stuff that requires network requests to do (e.g.: forging candles, buying spirit items, etc.) are also done on the CPU because there's no way for it to be done on the GPU. This means that unless you have a weak GPU, your CPU usually dictates the frame rate of Sky.
As an additional point, Sky does not have a lot of advanced rendering features which will use the GPU more. Remember that Sky was first designed for iOS as a casual, social game. While the option for adding advanced rendering techniques like raytracing and HDR rendering are available, doing so used more power, which isn't good for a mobile game that you play with friends. Sure, you can play it with the phone plugged and have no issues with it running out of power, but that's not as fun as playing it with your friends around you. As such, there's not a lot of tasks for the GPU to run, reducing its power usage.
Sky also does not run some things asynchronously, even if it could. What this means is that, instead of performing some tasks in a separate thread, it does them in a single thread. This means that what really matters most for Sky is single-core performance rather than multi-core performance. It's not completely single-threaded; you can see that it uses more than one logical processor when you open Task Manager. However, it's not using multithreading to its maximum capability. In particular, it does not load resources asynchronously.
Asynchronous resource loading just means that resources (e.g.: models, terrain data, textures, etc.) are loaded in a background thread, allowing the main thread to continue updating the game and continuing rendering. You can tell this behavior is happening because, when you switch areas, the game becomes unresponsive for a moment while it's loading the next area. The main thread is occupied with loading the resources, which means that it's not responding to window events and it's not rendering anything. This could actually be the reason for some stuttering that happens. When the game tries to load something, it will freeze because the game stops doing any updates and renders. I don't think this happens a lot — Sky seems to always load all resources it will need for an area when you enter it — but it's a possibility.
Because the GPU isn't being used as much, it's also not drawing as much power as other games. Doing so would just be wasteful since it'll still do just as much work for higher power usage, lowering its utilization. Better to have lower power draw but higher utilization since that gives you more power efficiency, which is beneficial for a laptop.
There's not much you can do to improve Sky's performance in this case. A lot of the bottlenecks here are on Sky's implementation rather than its settings. Most you can do is lower the game's target frame rate down to 30 FPS, but that's not going to help much. Frame rate limiting is generally done to reduce GPU load, not CPU. Plus, gaming in 30 FPS nowadays generally isn't desirable. It's still in the realm of "playable", but I wouldn't recommend playing in 30 FPS unless there's a specific reason to.

I know it’s partly just the flaw of the genre, but I do really think that it was a missed opportunity to utilize parents more in MHA.
We don’t know a single thing about most of the families of main characters, and the ones we do know have very little substance. It is genuinely horrifying that so many of these kids were actively in danger so often and that they were turned into child soldiers for a war!! Even before the war, these kids were doing things far beyond their scope, getting their licenses and doing their work studies way before they were supposed to, and there’s really not a whole lot showing parents protesting much of this despite how objectively awful it is.
And there are smaller things that are less plot driven that could really be impactful. The fact that Aizawa and Yamada seemed to keep in touch with Oboro’s parents, for example. As far as I can tell, we don’t get a single thing about them despite that? Maybe I’m wrong because I haven’t read a lot of the BTS support material and extras but I can’t find anything and I’ve been trying to research Oboro for the last couple hours for a headcanons post. Which is just so wild to me because their son died horrifically and as a critical part of a much of important character arcs and we don’t seem to get any knowledge about them? I know they get vaguely brought up once or twice but for something that is so important to Aizawa’s character, I wish it was more important.
Idk it’s another one of those things that kinda bothers me. I don’t love the approach MHA takes to parents. I think if you’re going to insist on making your characters in high school then parents should play more of a role in both the conflict and the development of each character.

I'm very excited about the rook fic! It keeps getting stronger lol.
I'm so glad! Me too! It's amazing and I'm excited to get it out. I'll try to keep posting snippets, but there's only so much that's funny rather than deep, introspective, and heartfelt. I don't want to spoil the more emotional scenes because those should be experienced within the context of the whole fanfic. It will have the maximum impact, which is what I aim to do as a writer.
However, I'm writing the 3rd and final act. It should have some more lighthearted and funny moments. Along with some more general fluffy scenes, which is good for you all lol
I'm excited to post it. I work on it every single day, so I'm making progress

OC Deep Dive Tag ✨
@the-golden-comet may be a pirate-wrangler, but I'm the one who keeps stealing their tag games. 🏴‍☠️
Oh y'all know I'm starting with Kazimier from 🌐7 Circles🌐
I am however adding a cut bc some of this is pretty spoiler-y. 🙊
Phobias: Hemophobia (his own blood, specifically), medical needles. People whose lust tastes of sadism.
Other fears: IVs, feeling not in control, being drugged, being poisoned, getting cut/stabbed, healthy fear of death. Fear of falling in love.
Pet peeves: Naivety, 'baby-talking', clingy people, sometimes even having sex is a peeve.
3 items in their bedroom: Something to lounge on like a chaise, garish clothing, a lot of rope.
First thing they notice in a person: The sound of their voice/how they pronounce things, the way their face moves as they talk.
Scale of 1 to 10, how high is their pain tolerance?: Hmmm...4.
Do they go into fight or flight mode when under pressure? Freeze, followed by fight, flight, fawn (fakely), or fuck.
Do they have a big family/are they a family person?: Does being in a gang at age 10 count as being adopted into a family? Could be a family person if he let himself care about people like that.
What animal represents them? A cat. So particular, weirdly hyperfocused sometimes, likes toying with vermin, can't tell if he'll roll with you giving him attention or try to claw you.
What is a smell they dislike? Cleaning solution
Broken any bones? Maybe, he's almost 300 so it would be a miracle if he hadn't yet.
How would a stranger describe them? Each stranger would describe a completely different person. Kazimier is a shapeshifter. If a stranger somehow saw his 'neutral' form, they'd say he looks fuckin' weird. Horns, green hair, mis-matched eyes of red and green, strange red markings on his cheeks, fangs, black claws, dressed like an 80s rockstar and has this crooked smirk on his face... the fuck?
Night owl or a morning bird? Night? The place he comes from, Du'Preve, barely has a day and night, it's always pretty dark.
A flavor they hate and a flavor they love? Hates sadism, loves desperation. (Kaz is an incubus, and you can discern those feelings from the taste of their lust)
Any hobbies? Sewing (very helpful for a shapeshifter), games like chess, billiards, darts, clue- anything that keeps his mind engaged. Also enjoys doing other people's makeup/make-overs but does this very rarely and is a dictator during the process.
Boom, surprise birthday party! How do they react to surprises? He's already thinking about how much he's going to make everyone suffer. Flip a coin as to whether he shuts it down immediately or plays along up until people get hurt. There is one (1) spontaneous asexual vampire gal who could get away with doing this.
Do they like to wear jewelry? Yeah, and he owns a lot of it.
Neat or messy handwriting? Neater than you'd expect, large unabashed spacing and snarky loops.
The two emotions they feel the most? Fear and curiosity.
Favorite fabric? Hahhahahahaa.. yeah it's cashmere.
What kind of accent do they have? New York-ish, like Baccano. The quality of his voice is not unlike Todd Haberkorn's normal speaking voice, brassy, abrasive, animated, wry and snarkish.
Taggames list: @katenewmanwrites @smellyrottentrees @wyked-ao3 @lychhiker-writes @fortunatetragedy @cowboybrunch @zackprincebooks @urbiggestfan-01 @quillswriting +Open Tag! (No pressure tho!)

Development of Research Question
While selecting a study, I reviewed multiple codebooks and ultimately chose the AddHealth study. I selected this study because I am interested in the impact of the family environment on children.
(1) What data sets have I chosen?
I have selected the following data sets to help inform my research:
Personality and Family
Relations with Parents
Relations with Siblings
Protective Factors
Parents’ Attitudes
Feelings Scale
Delinquency Scale
Fighting and Violence
Tobacco, Alcohol, Drugs
(2) Description of the association I would like to study
First Topic
It strikes me that family environments vary widely, with some fostering emotional warmth and support, while others are characterised by conflict and a lack of support. Given these differences, I find myself most interested in exploring how a family's emotional climate relates to the personality development of children within that family.
Research Question 1
How does a family’s emotional climate (e.g., emotional warmth/support, conflict/ lack of support) relate to the personality development of children within that family?
Hypothesis Children raised in a family with an emotionally supportive and warm environment will exhibit higher levels of confidence and happiness, while children raised in a conflict-filled and unsupportive family climate will show lower levels of self-esteem, increased insecurity, and higher rates of depression.
Second Topic
While reviewing various aspects of adolescent development, I became particularly interested in how personal traits and family dynamics shape health and risk behaviours. It strikes me that adolescents with traits such as impulsivity, aggressiveness, or low self-control may engage in risky behaviours differently based on their family environment. Some may be more prone to alcohol use or violent behaviours in conflict-filled households, while others in supportive environments may exhibit greater restraint. Given these patterns, I am most interested in exploring how adolescent personality traits and family dynamics together predict engagement in alcohol use and fighting/violent behaviors.
Research Question 2
How do adolescent personality traits (e.g., impulsivity, aggressiveness, low self-control) and family dynamics (e.g., emotional warmth, conflict, support) predict adolescent engagement in alcohol use and fighting/violent behaviors?
Hypothesis Adolescents who are raised in a family with an emotionally supportive and warm environment, and who exhibit high levels of confidence and happiness, are less likely to engage in alcohol use or fighting/violent behaviors. Conversely, adolescents raised in a conflict-filled family climate, with lower levels of self-esteem, increased insecurity, and higher rates of depression, are more likely to engage in alcohol use and fighting/violent behaviors.
LITERATURE REVIEW
1. Introduction
The family environment plays a crucial role in shaping the development and behaviors of children and adolescents. Research suggests that factors such as emotional warmth, support, and conflict within the family influence personality development, health outcomes, and risk behaviors. This literature review explores the association between family dynamics and personality traits, with a particular focus on how these factors contribute to adolescent engagement in risk behaviors such as alcohol use and violent conduct.
The purpose of this review is to examine existing research on the relationship between family emotional climate and personality development, as well as the combined influence of adolescent personality traits and family dynamics on risk behaviors. By synthesising relevant studies, this review aims to provide insights into how supportive or conflict-filled family environments shape adolescent behavioral outcomes.
The research problem centers on understanding the extent to which personality traits and family dynamics interact to predict adolescent risk behaviors. Identifying these relationships is essential for informing interventions that promote positive youth development and reduce engagement in harmful behaviors.
2. Methodology
Search Strategy
A comprehensive search was conducted to identify relevant studies on the relationship between family emotional climate and personality development in children. The following search terms were used in Google Scholar: “personality and family environment,” “family emotional climate,” “personality development of children,” “family conflict and aggression,” and “family warmth and child self-esteem.” Boolean operators (AND, OR) were used to combine the terms, yielding a broad range of results.
Selection Criteria
The inclusion criteria were empirical studies published between 1992 and 2024, focusing on children and adolescents (ages 3-18), and examining the impact of family dynamics on the development of personality traits such as self-esteem, confidence, and aggression. Studies that were not related to the specified variables or age group were excluded.
3. Thematic Structure (Body of the Review)
Theme A: Family Emotional Climate and Personality Development
A family’s emotional climate significantly shapes individual personality development, particularly through attachment styles and parental responsiveness. Diehl’s (2002) research links adult attachment styles to early family experiences and broader personality traits, showing that secure attachment is fostered in emotionally supportive environments. Similarly, Fraley (2002) emphasizes the role of early caregiving consistency in forming stable personality traits across the life course, highlighting how emotionally responsive parenting sets the foundation for enduring psychological patterns. Nakao’s (2000) findings support this, indicating that warmth and emotional attunement within the family correlate with openness and conscientiousness in adulthood. Moreover, Asiegbu (2020) reviews how emotion regulation capacities are cultivated through the parent-child bond, reinforcing the pivotal role of family emotional responsiveness in shaping regulatory and relational personality components.
Theme B: Positive Family Environments and Healthy Personality Traits
Schofield et al. (2012) demonstrate that positive parenting—marked by warmth, involvement, and support—predicts the development of prosocial and resilient personality traits in adolescents. Their longitudinal work shows that adolescents exposed to such environments tend to exhibit higher agreeableness and emotional stability over time. Darling and Steinberg’s (1993) integrative model further supports this, positioning parenting style as a contextual factor that moderates developmental outcomes; authoritative parenting consistently aligns with healthier personality traits. Additionally, Scharf (2009) provides evidence that positive sibling relationships during adolescence contribute to better emotional functioning and personality adjustment in emerging adulthood, reinforcing the cumulative benefits of a nurturing family atmosphere. Together, these findings converge on the idea that a supportive family system acts as a scaffold for healthy psychological development.
Theme C: Impact of Family Conflict on Child Behavior
Chang’s (2003) study on harsh parenting reveals that emotionally negative and coercive family environments are associated with poor emotion regulation and increased aggression in children. The emotional volatility inherent in such contexts hinders the development of empathy and inhibitory control, critical components of personality development. Ani’s (2020) systematic review corroborates this, identifying consistent links between family dysfunction—such as high conflict or poor communication—and mental health problems in children, including behavioral dysregulation and anxiety. This aligns with Fraley’s (2002) dynamic model, which suggests that unstable or stressful caregiving environments disrupt the continuity of personality traits, particularly in the realm of emotional stability. Thus, family conflict serves not only as an environmental stressor but as a catalyst for maladaptive behavioral patterns.
Theme D: Personality Development and Risk Behaviors
Risk behaviors in adolescence and early adulthood are strongly influenced by earlier personality development shaped by family dynamics. Chang (2003) and Schofield (2012) both identify pathways from negative parenting and poor emotion regulation to externalizing behaviors like aggression and delinquency. These behaviors often stem from underdeveloped self-regulation capacities—linked to both parenting style and emotional environment. Darling and Steinberg (1993) highlight how permissive or neglectful parenting is associated with higher instances of risk-taking, partly due to a lack of internalized social norms. Moreover, Fraley’s (2002) work on personality stability underscores that individuals exposed to erratic or punitive environments are more likely to exhibit neuroticism and impulsivity—traits closely tied to risk behaviors. This body of work emphasizes the need to address family-based interventions to mitigate long-term psychosocial risks.
4. Conclusion
The reviewed literature underscores the profound and lasting influence of family dynamics on personality development across the lifespan. From early attachment patterns and emotional climate to parenting styles and sibling relationships, the family unit serves as the primary socializing agent, shaping not only personality traits but also behavioral outcomes. Positive family environments foster emotional stability, prosocial behavior, and resilience, while conflictual or emotionally neglectful settings increase the risk of maladaptive traits and behaviors, including aggression and poor emotion regulation.
These findings collectively highlight that personality development is not solely an internal, individual process but a relational and contextual one—deeply embedded in the quality of early familial relationships. As such, interventions aimed at improving family functioning and promoting positive parenting practices are essential for cultivating healthy personality trajectories and reducing the risk of psychological and behavioral issues. Understanding these dynamics is crucial for educators, clinicians, and policymakers working to support youth development and mental health.

I think the most frustrating part of all the AI crap stuff is people acting like they need these things to help with things people have done plenty without a machine.
Like do you know how I come up with characters for my work as someone that does like toonier furry characters? I genuinely read up and watch videos on animals CONSTANTLY so I have an ever growing internalize library of what exists out there. I don't need to ask a planet killing plagiarism machine to tell me about stuff especially when it famously gets shit horrifically wrong all the time.
Like quick ass reminder that AI is so braindead it thinks peachicks are basically chibi versions of the adults
Tumblr media
when it reality they are starkly different looking (as it very common for birds in general)
Tumblr media
Also do you know why a male peachick is not bright blue right out of the egg?
They are trying to not get eaten!
Adult peacocks may not look like they can get get off the ground but they are absolutely capable of flight and thus are significantly less vulnerable than their hatchlings.
youtube
This is all shit you can learn by actually reading or watching materials on those animals instead of expecting a dipshit program made by dipshits to spoonfeed you real accurate information.

me, sitting here as i'm working on my homework listening to ethan winters' best lines: he cursed so much more during resident evil 7
which makes me think either one of two things:
Fatherhood has made him not curse as much. (He still curses, of course, but it's not as like genuinely explicit)
He was so overwhelmed by the Baker House and Dulvey and once he got to the Village it was like... oh my god, this shit again. Like he was tired / done with it.
