I. He Tells Her

He tells her that the earth is flat — He knows the facts, and that is that. In altercations fierce and long She tries her best to prove him wrong. But he has learned to argue well. He calls her arguments unsound And often asks her not to yell. She cannot win. He stands his ground.

Not “Only my reading of canon is correct” or “Interpretations are subjective and all valid” but a secret third thing, “More than one interpretation can be valid but there’s a reason your English teacher had you cite quotes and examples in your papers, you have to have a strong argument that your interpretation is actually supported by the text or it is just wrong and I’m fine with telling you it’s wrong, actually.”

Gonna preface this with the whole opinions are subjective and I'm not saying you can't like crap spiel so if it comes across judgemental, sorry? I guess?

Anyways, I grew up with comics Peter as well as Toby and Andrew's iterations of spider-man, and as such I'm really more fond of and nostalgic for sassy grumpy Spider doing his best and awkward Peter loving people but struggling to balance things and occasionally messing up. With Tom's version being brought into into the mix, I now see more Itty bitty birdy cutely chirping in human form. At least Fandom wise that is, he's baby, must be adored by everyone (which some people are just awkward and nervous around kids, doesn't mean they disrespect the kid, but they're interactions would be stilted) which grates on me after a while. Yeah, he started fighting crime and being a vigilante as a teenager, yeah kids should be protected, but spider-man was assumed to be an adult by his fellow superheroes a good majority of the time from my recollection, and his experience also gave him some insight others didn't have when they started fighting crime after him.

And the Irondad stuff also kinda gets on my nerves occasionally as they portray him like the perfect parent, always knowing what Peter needs. This man blackmailed a teen into fighting his boy band when they had a fallout, threatened to tell Aunt May and everything. And before people get all, but you just said kids should be protected, he used that threat to get the kid to fight grown adults over, partially, a governmental thing (the accords). We are never told how Peter feels about the accords, or how much he knows about why the avengers are fighting each other, he just needs to be there because Aunt May will be told if he doesn't fight. Tony then keeps that promise of not telling, kind of leaves the kid feeling so ignored that the ferry thing happens, as Tony never gave an indication that he did something.

And before people get huffy I'm not trying to demonize Tony, adults are flawed too, they still need to grow as people like everyone else, my point is that people ignore those flaws when they write irondad, a lot. All while keeping the other Avengers flaws and sometimes exaggerating them. And again, your fanfic and stuff, do what you want, but these are what I keep running into and I'm just trying to find the old fanfics I loved from when I was growing up.

So I guess I'm asking for advice on how to find spider-man fanfiction that isn't Tom Holland's Peter or inspired by Tom's version, cause even when I exclude the tag, I get baby Peter who is sunshine incarnate and cries easier than the Peter I grew up with. And cries easier than Tom's Peter was shown too, actually. When I think about it… anyways this got way too long and I'm gonna stop rambling, sorry.

OBSERVATION:

To ..."argue about differences of opinion" is to make the case that I am right...

To make it all about me and my rightness...

...at the expense of the other's opinion...

...or perhaps their leading by the Holy Spirit...

...when in fact I may be the weaker one by insisting on my rightness...

...or perhaps even my wrongness...

It makes me think - shows me thinking - more highly of myself...

...instead of placing the other(s) and their - our shared - weakness(es) front and center...

...bringing all of us - and our shared weakness(es) before the Father's throne...

APPLICATION:

Welcome the person who is weak in faith...

Admit - confess - at times it may be me...

Verses 17-19:

Be about "...righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit."

Serve Christ;

Please God;

"...strive for the things that bring peace and the things that build each other up."

PRAYER:

Patient, loving Father God - I freely confess to loving a good argument, to making my point which often shows how much I value my thoughts and feelings over the openness and honesty and searching of those around me - and that may, in fact, turn me into a stumbling block or speed bump into coming to Your grace and mercy... Thank You that Your Holy Spirit gives me pause to consider my words and actions in light of Your Word that I might bring peace and build up others, in Jesus's Name and for Your glory...

I have to be honest, when people are objectively into plus sized bodies it turns me on, and I’m not sorry.

I don’t want to have sex where we tiptoe around the fact that I’m fat, I actually want my body to be touched on and groped and worshiped during sex and if someone gonna be weird about it, I’m not going to enjoy myself. I want someone to grab and kiss and mark on my belly the way they would any person no matter the size, as for the rest of me. I’m deserving of that type of sex, and to shame people who want to give me that type of sex just kinda feels weird and fatphobic.

The way that people treat any sort of attraction to fat bodies as fetishization and chasing just frustrates me to no end, sometimes people just are attracted to fat people and know how to love on us the way other people are loved up on.

i can't be the only person who doesn't think Lucanis was imitating Illario during the "almost kiss" scene, right?

to me, it felt more like Lucanis trying - not for the first time in the game - to recapture some of who he was before the ossuary; his confidence. he's been trying, over and over and over, to pretend like he could pick up the pieces of his old life. but he doesn't fit in the mold anymore. Lucanis is trying to give rook the person he used to be - the person he thinks he needs to be - rather than the person he is now (because he doesn't know how to accept that yet).

and when that comes up against how much he realizes he wants them, he snaps away.

you can literally see it on his face. the realization. the sadness. he doesn't want to pull away. but he can't accept rook without accepting that he can't go back to his old life, and he's not ready for that yet.

the person he's imitating isn't Illario.

Lucanis is trying to imitate himself.
