Do you ever think about the fact that Sirius Black was so mentally strong that despite being imprisoned in Azkaban for 12 years; 12 years basically in solitary confinement because he’s hardly chatting to the Voldy crowd; and we are told he was ONE OF THE MOST HEAVILY GUARDED in the entire prison - despite all this, During Fudge’s visit to Azkaban, Sirius casually asked if he could have Fudge's newspaper (since he missed doing the crossword), which the unnerved Minister handed over?

Because I do.

And do you ever think about the fact that despite surviving 12 years of hell, then other stuff like eating rats in a cave and risking getting his soul sucked out by Dementors, the only time we see Sirius Black in a bad way is when he is stuck in Grimmauld Place for the first time since he ran away as a 16 year old. Stuck there reliving old memories and old losses and unable to help Harry (his whole raison d’être), drinking and low in mood. He gives Buckbeak his mother’s old room (does he want Buckbeak to ruin it or an excuse to go into it, Probably both) and leaves Regulus’ room completely untouched, unchanged, like a shrine to his ‘idiot, too soft’ baby brother?

Remus doesn't think he and Sirius are going to last.

It's sweet, how earnest and excited he'd been when Remus had bumped into him and their wrists had burned at the same time. But he'd known they were doomed from the beginning. He sees the wolfsbane unfurl on Sirius's wrist and knows that he has to come clean, but he doesn't have any friends and he's scared and Sirius is excitedly introducing him to boys named James and Peter who are so excited to see the little flowers on his wrist.

He knows he has to be honest. It's just hard to give up what he's always wanted.

Peter figures out what he is before the end of their first year. "You should be the one to tell Sirius," he tells him seriously. "I've known James and Sirius for years and they won't care if you tell them. But they'll feel hurt if they figure it out for themselves."

"Are you hurt?" Remus asks, because he can't bring himself to ask if Peter is scared of him now.

Except Peter smiles and nudges their shoulders together. "Give me some credit. I get it. I know what it's like to be scared, unlike those idiots."

"That's what makes you brave," he says. "If you weren't scared, you wouldn't be brave. Don't sell yourself short."

He flushes. "Don't sell Sirius short either."

Remus is terrified when he tells them, even with Peter smiling encouragingly, but they're more upset at him being alone every month than about his condition.

It's uplifting, especially when James starts laying out a plan for the others to be become animagi, and he thinks it means that he might be able to keep Sirius as a friend.

Even when they tentatively start calling each other boyfriends when they're thirtenn, he knows better than to think it will last.

Sirius may fight with his family, but at the end of the day he's still a Black. Sirius's mother is more likely to arrange for a new werewolf rug in her home than to allow someone like him to marry into her family.

Narcissa has never paid much attention to him, but Remus knows she's the one that's going to end up with his soulmate.

Except during her sixth year she pulls some sort of stunt that ends up with her engaged to Lucius Malfoy. Mrs. Black is furious and Narcissa doesn't care and Remus thinks that this is the first time he's actually seen Sirius impressed with his cousin.

Maybe there is hope.

Then years later he finds himself standing in the rubble of James and Lily's home, Harry beyond his reach, and all of his closest friends dead at his soulmate's hand, and he's sure he's proved himself right in the worst way possible.

Not even his worst nightmares could compare with this.

# anyway ## you ever think about how the only thing sasuke has to do for full power is cull naruto but even though he keeps saying he doesnt care about him anymore he cant bring himself to hurt him and how everyone else says that naruto is sasukes weakness and theyre right and it sucks because if sasuke considers naruto his closest bond then he will have to cull him but he doesnt want to cull him so he avoids him which only further enforces the fact that he cares about him the most and naruto shows no fear when they meet again because he knows sasuke cares about him and wont hurt him and also in any other situation he would let sasuke cull him in a heartbeat but the only reason he doesnt is because he knows hes sasukes "one and only" and that once naruto dies sasuke will be fully lost to the darkness so thats why he cant give in to sasuke not because he values his own life but because he knows hes sasukes last bond

consider the sperm whale and the squid. an ancient rivalry that dates back millions of years. we know the whales eat the squids. we know the squids do not make it easy for them. we know this because of the scars the whales carry, scars on the outside of their body, and on the inside as well. how badly must you want something to endure wounds inside your mouth? inside your gut?

consider the whale, who is harmed by what sustains her. consider the squid, whose flesh is soft and delicious but refuses to go down easy.

This is what a community looks like.

See how in 2023 almost all of the reblogs come from the OP, from their few hours/days in the tag search. Meanwhile in 2014 the % of reblogs from OP is insignificant, because most of the reblogs come from the reblogs within the fandom, within the micro-communities formed there. You didn't need to rely on tags, or search, or being featured. Because the community took care of you, made sure to pass the work between themselves and onto their blog and exposed their followers to it. It kept works alive for years.

It's not JUST the reblog/like ratio that causing this issue, it's the type of interaction people have. They're content with scrolling and liking the search engine, instead of actually having a reblogging relationship with other blogs in their community.

Anyways, if you want to see more content you like, the only true way to make it happen is to reblog it. Likes do not forward content in no way but making OP feel nice. Reblogs on the other hand make content eternal. They make it relevant, they make it exist outside of a fickle tumblr search that hardly works on the best of days.
