SO, we're coming up on the next Public Domain day this Monday, and so I have a minor challenge for you all who do art there, that I will be participating in!

The challenge is simple:

Make a character design, any way you can, within the timeframe before January 1st ends, with a quick piece of microfiction around 500 words or less (or a bit more) showing what kind of character they are, and post it on here with a CC0 license.

It's short, it's sweet, it's a good way to celebrate the most underrated holiday, the short timeframe is a good challenge to flex those creative muscles, so try it if you can!

Rinko Kurisaki Profile - Part 5

It's recommended that you do not read this if you haven't read installment 41 of Another Level, Fight Until the End.

Rinko’s domain expansion, Fractured Multiplication, utilizes the fragment of her soul that resides within her Perfect Double to construct a Hall of Mirrors. The fragment serves as a mirror for the remainder of her soul, reflecting endlessly. Broken mirrors will shatter and multiply. Casting her domain will consume the fragment, rendering her unable to activate Perfect Double until she regenerates that fragment.

*To cast Fractured Multiplication, Perfect Double must be active.

Revision:

Upon being trapped, the target’s soul is forced to take its true shape (i.e. souls residing in vessels will be separated) and is divided among the reflections. Within the domain, they are subjected to forced introspection, meaning the target will hear their own reflections repeat their soul’s deepest fears and insecurities.

If the target breaks a mirror, the portion of their soul within that mirror will be destroyed, forcing their soul to be split further.

Last Stand is perpetually active within Fractured Multiplication, with reflections serving as Duplicates; however, each reflection destroyed consumes part of Rinko’s soul. If too much damage is sustained, her soul will be completely consumed and she will die.

Rinko first achieved her domain expansion when she was twenty-eight with the help of Gojo Satoru.

Her domain was utilized to separate Ryomen Sukuna's soul from his occupied vessel, Fushiguro Megumi.

I found my childhood Sims save files and this just reaffirms my commitment that I should never be trusted to name anything ever. Why the fuck is this guy's name "Conos (Chrono Trigger)", I never even played that. Fake fan :(

Other names from this specific set of saves includes 'Reco' (he's Conos's boyfriend :))))... full name Reco Lusiove :/ ) and 'Carp' (Reco's dad), but some other winners include Glivk (gl-ih-vehk, brown stardew valley chicken), Kinalek (kin-ah-leh-ck, Walrein, pokemon), and Kario (childhood OC. Pronounced car-ee-o, like "Mario", but was almost definitely supposed to be named Cairo, after the city.)

So the "Nazmazh" character is in the pipeline for me to actually create a mini for, but for the time being, Ambrose here will suffice as an avatar.

I will eventually get around to uploading Hero Forge mini screenshots and lore snippets for everyone that I've created based on the dice, but in addition to making new ones, I've got plans to revise many of the existing minis with the new facial and pose options that Hero Forge has gotten since I created those minis.

Welcome to Something Eternal: A Website Forum in 2023 wtf lmao

It's 2023, and a single belligerent rich guy destroyed one of the primary focal points of uh...global communication. Tumblr is, shockingly, kinda thriving despite the abuse it gets from its owners, but that I will call the iconic refusal of Tumblr users to let Tumblr get in the way of their using Tumblr. Reddit killed its API, removing the functionality of mobile apps that made it remotely readable (rip rif.) Discord, our current primary hangout, has made countless strange choices lately that indicate it has reached the summit of its usability and functionality, and can only decline from here as changes get made to prepare for shareholders. (NOTE: WROTE THIS POST BEFORE THEIR MOBILE "REDESIGN" LMAO)

The enshittification is intense, and it's coming from every direction. Social media platforms that felt like permanent institutions are instead slowly going to let fall fallow incredible amounts of history, works of art, thought, and fandoms. It kinda sucks!

A couple years ago, I posted about a new plan with a new domain, to focus on the archiving of media content, as I saw that to be the fatal weakness of the current ways the internet and fandoms work. Much has happened since to convince me to alter the direction of those efforts, though not abandon them entirely.

Long story short? We are launching a fucking website forum. In 2023.

If you remember In the Rose Garden, much about Something Eternal will be familiar. But this has been a year in the making, and in many ways it's far more ambitious than IRG was. We have put money on this. The forum is running on the same software major IT and technology businesses use, because I don't want the software to age out of usability within five years. It has an attached gallery system for me to post content to, including the Chiho Saito art collection. It has a profile post system that everyone already on the forum has decided is kinda like mini Twitter? But it is, fundamentally, a website forum, owned and run and moderated by us. We are not web devs. But we have run a website on pure spite and headbutting code for over twenty years, and we have over a decade of experience maintaining social spaces online, both on the OG forum, and on our Discord. Better skilled people with far more time than we have can and will build incredible alternatives to what is collapsing around us. But they're not in the room right now. We are. And you know what? Maybe it's time to return to a clunkier, slower moving, more conversation focused platform.

You're not joining a social media platform with the full polish of dozens of devs and automated moderation. Things might break, and I might need time to fix them. The emojis and such are still a work in progress. Because e-mails no longer route in reasonable normal ways, the sign-up process instead happens within the software, and has to be approved by mods. Design and structure elements may change. Etc. The point being, that the forum isn't finished, but it is at a place where I feel like I can present it to people, and it's people I need to help direct what functions and things will be in this space. You all will shape its norms, its traditions, its options...choices I could try to make now, but really...they're for us to create as a group! But the important stuff? That's there. Now let's drive this baby off the damn lot already!

have you ever heard of primal, the old therian/furry conlang? do you have any thoughts on it?

I hadn't until now and I'm shocked to see that it was created in 2001. Those are the old days! There seems to be very little information left on the internet. The website is down, but, more importantly, the url itself has been excluded from the internet archive, so you can't pull it up on the Wayback Machine. That's really a shame. It means that the owner of the site has requested specifically that the url be excluded. Now, that's the top level domain, so it may be that there are other things on the site the owner didn't want archived, rather than the language specifically, but the upshot is we can't seem to get direct information on the language.

It did have a Langmaker profile, so it looks like the wider conlang community was aware of it in one form or another.

Hey, BlueSky to the rescue! Apparently there's another internet archive called Archive Today and they have three snapshots. Here's one. Unfortunately the links on that page no longer resolve.

So yeah, there's not much to say. From the example on the page on the furry wiki it doesn't look particularly groundbreaking, but it's certainly an older conlang worth recovering, if at all possible. Perhaps we can start here.

Is there anyone around that ever purchased a copy of the grammar? They were selling physical copies at the time. Maybe we can get something from the language and put it up on Fiat Lingua.

With Steamboat Willie being in the public domain and all this talk about what we can and can't do with its version of Mickey, it made me think about how a Paraguayan company actually trademarked Mickey.

Mickey SRL is a food seasoning manufacturer that uses Mickey Mouse as its mascot. And they are legally allowed to use Mickey as their mascot because they trademarked Mickey's side profile before Disney did. Disney only trademarked the front of Mickey's face beforehand. Oops!
