I do want to talk about the fact that Armand keeps ending up in mindfuck exhibitionist situations and I think its very intentional on the part of the writers. Equally important I think that with Lestat on the balcony and Louis in his office Armand seems kind of resigned. Letting himself be used as a prop to someone else's desires. The exhibitionism feels less about being watched and more about being owned - about the fact that he'd let them have him like this even when people are watching, even though he doesn't like it, especially because he doesn't like it. It's not about being watched, its about being valued, because that means hes safe. If they want to fuck him bad enough to do it in front of everyone that means they'll keep him around.

But in Dubai, in his "right in front of my fucked up murder-diaries" scene, he's very visibly having fun. He's enjoying being watched. Damek just kind of sat there stoically but Armand keeps talking because he wants Daniel to keep looking at him. Daniel would clearly love to pretend this isn't happening but Armand won't let him. Like whatever Armand thinks Daniel is seeing when he looks at him is something Armand wants to be. He doesn't have anything to gain from this except for the fact that he genuinely seems to like it. He likes Daniel looking at him and wanting him. And for once in Armand's life it doesn't have to be survival. Him wanting it is enough.

It’s actually a little sad Armand put his magnolia indoors in Louis’ zen garden. He could’ve put it outside, he can survive the sun. But the magnolia wouldn’t have survived the Dubai heat, and it wouldn’t have survived anywhere but a carefully controlled artificial environment shielded from the natural environment. It’s literally rooted in the past. The stones in the garden are the same stones as the one in Louis’ coffin when he’s sent to starve. Claudia’s diaries and the archives are kept in shelves out of Louis’ reach in the same room. The lack of metaphor is striking.

the more i think about season 2 in retrospect the more clear it becomes to me that there is not an originary love between louis and armand. it's not up for interpretation or a question of shipping or whatever it’s the story. the observation that louis can reconcile with lestat, even potentially enter a relationship on better terms, while the same is not true for armand, is contentious bc people seem to take it as saying the quality of lestat’s abuse is more forgivable, the things lestat has done don’t matter, etc. but it’s not a matter of comparing or equivocating between preferred tactics of abuse. it’s not just that armand gaslights louis. it’s what he gaslights louis about. not only lynching claudia and trying to lynch louis, not only torturing him in san francisco, but the origins of their relationship: louis’s own motive for “inviting” armand up in 2.3, for committing to a companionship in 2.4, and for staying with him after killing the coven in 2.8. the first two are done in direct response to the threat to his and claudia’s safety. the third is out of spite. and yet in the present it’s “the love of my life” and “we had our proper roles…a dreamy kind of balance”. it’s gone from “you’ll never make it up to me” / “i know” in paris to “our problems aren’t about him” and “have i crawled an inch forward in your regard??” in sf and louis having to ask for claudia’s diaries in dubai . and this isn’t to simplify louis and lestats relationship to “oh they loved each other before it went south” or to deny the issues of consent fundamental to their “fucked up gothic romance” but crucially louis’s feelings towards lestat are a source of guilt for him that he denies and rejects in the present and in paris. whereas he can easily say i love you to armand in paris and call their relationship love in dubai And the cost of that is the diminishment of claudia’s role in his life. Which is very clear in the erased san francisco fight!!! Armand says you threw her name around for cover but you talked about HIM . louis protests that he loved her. armand says she never loved you not like lestat and i. louis goes into the sun to be with her and armand erases it. you chased after my love. you picked me over her. you’ve forgiven me. the pain of it has left you. and when louis is able to leave armand he puts her dress on the wall. That is why i don’t think louis and armand would ever resume a romantic relationship as happens in the books. and it is honestly bewildering to me that this “the love was there the tragedy is that love was there” take persists

Louis saying it was a betrayal and that he wants to be punished for it just when he finds happiness again via a hallucination of Lestat is so... ugh. Louis, honey, god. Also him imagining Lestat biting him - as a punishment, but he also wants it so badly, baring his neck, not trying to fight it, offering himself up there, he just wants the connection so badly. 😭 And god, Louis having Lestat call him out on his own denial. Damn. And Louis knowing he invited this Lestat as a distraction.

Also... that was definitely foreshadowing to how Louis will think the trial went.

And of course it would be a bat. Of course.™

Claudia driving them onwards, not giving one shit is just... incredible. Delainey is Claudia.

I was also right that she honed her senses and available gifts, more than Louis has his (which fits)

Claudia is also... beautifully hopeful, and thereby almost desperately (intentionally) naive. She just wants to connect, so badly. To find more of their kind. And closes her eyes to what she sees. *deep sigh*

That "Adam and Even and God" comment was hilarious. Oh man, I cannot wait to see what the show will make of / with QotD and Memnoch etc.

Not only is Louis aware of forgotten memories now, he actively pursues them, and he has apparently read the missing pages before. And knows he has forgotten.

Claudia's diaries are unreliable, too (as predicted). Also, Louis correcting his own tale there, lol. Also: Armand‘s look and suggestion there.

Armand's comment that the boy from San Francisco is still in Daniel. Now if that is not foreshadowing.
