If I Should Stay

…I’m sorry. Not really. Also quick housekeeping: I will not be online pretty much at all for a month starting Dec. 15th. I don’t know how long this fic is gonna be; I’m currently writing part 41 (which is insane, how are any of y’all still here, I’m in love with y’all) and don’t have much time to write currently, and won’t have any time to write during the month I’m off. Hopefully this wraps up before I leave so it’s all a moot point, but I wanted to let y’all know early, just in case it does affect the posting schedule.

“Oh, poor baby,” Eddie teases, absolutely delighting in the blush that pops up on Steve’s cheeks. “Is your best friend being mean to you?”

There’s a sparkle in Steve’s eye and a tilt to his lips that he can’t hide, even as he pouts and nods when he faces Eddie. “The meanest.” His gaze travels to his bowl, and his eyes suddenly narrow.

“I didn’t touch it,” Eddie swears. “Not after Allison warned me off.”

Steve sighs happily. “Knew you were good for something,” he tells his sister, moving to press a chaste kiss to Eddie’s lips before hip-bumping Allison as he grabs his bowl.

Allison squawks. “Excuse you, I made that food, you ungrateful brat!”

Just then Dustin barges in. “I heard food,” he says, making a beeline for Steve and his bowl. “Ooh, this looks good!” He helps himself to a taste, and Eddie and Allison watch with thinly-veiled amusement as Steve resigns himself to looking up, praying for death; whether for himself or for Dustin, no one could say.

“Dustin Clarence Henderson,” he starts, only to be immediately swamped by noise.

“Who told you that?” Dustin shrieks.

“You did, genius,” Steve retorts, pointing at himself. “Future, remember?”

At the same time, Eddie makes a funny little squeak noise. “His middle name is Clarence?”

“Shut up!” Dustin shrieks, resorting to swatting at Eddie’s arm.

“Ow, you little psycho, get off me! Steve! Steve, a small child is attacking me!”

Meanwhile, Allison is laughing hysterically. “Now I know why Robin kept calling you their mom!”

Steve spins around to stare at Allison, betrayed, only to have his bowl snatched from his hands by Dustin. “Payment for full-naming me,” Dustin says, mouth already full.

Steve groans, wipes a hand down his face, and intones, “I hate all of you.”

“Lies,” Allison says happily, “Lies and slander, you love us and can’t imagine your life without us.”

Steve flips her off.

Eddie grins at Alli, eyes sparking. “I like you.”

Dustin looks between them, lip curling. “Ew, dude, she’s way too old for you.”

Eddie and Allison look at each other before bursting out laughing.

“That’s not what I mean,” Eddie assures Dustin. “Trust me, I do not want to date her.”

Dustin narrows his eyes. “That’s… correct, but it sounds rude.”

Allison laughs again. “Don’t worry, kiddo, I know what he means, and I wouldn’t want to date him, either.”

Dustin narrows his eyes at Allison, then shrugs and turns to Steve. “Okay. What’re we gonna do about Dart?”

Steve sighs and runs a hand through his hair. “Well, he helped last time.” He winces. “Just, uh, keep him away from your cat.”

“Okay, but I can’t keep hiding him in my closet, dude.”

“I don’t know what to tell you, dude, it worked fine enough last time.” Steve sets his hands on his hips and stares at Dustin.

He huffs and spins on his heel, walking out of the room. “Whatever! Guess I’ll just keep him, then!”

A beat passes before Eddie looks at Steve. “It’s his tone, right?”

Steve starts laughing. “You say the exact same thing three years in the future.”

Eddie grins back at him, and Allison sighs.

Steve looks at her. “What?”

She shrugs. “Nothing, just. You two are cute. It’s fun to see relationships just starting out, y’know?”

Steve snorts. “Romantic.”

Allison raises a brow. “Like you aren’t?”

“…Touché,” Steve finally says.

Eddie grins. “Personally, I like seeing this sibling dynamic.”

Allison cocked her head. “Your uncle never had kids?”

Eddie shrugs. “I don’t think he dated much, t’be honest. And then I came along, and how’re you supposed to explain that to a date, right? So I think he just… stopped.”

Allison nods, impressed. “It takes a special kind of person to do that.”

“Yeah,” Eddie says, grinning. “He’s kinda the best.”

“I bet,” Allison says warmly.

“Steve,” Dustin calls, “how d’you work the TV remote?”

“The little shit,” Steve mutters again, walking out to help to the sound of Eddie and Allison laughing.

He sticks out in the living room for a few minutes, showing Dustin the remote and helping him pick a channel, before Eddie’s voice catches his attention. “Uh… Steve? Steve!”

He sounds worried, so Steve hurries back in. “What’s wrong?”

Eddie points wordlessly at Allison, who’s sitting still, eyes pointed at something off in the distance. As they watch, her eyes begin to roll back in her head. “No,” Steve whispers, then louder. “No! Allison!” He runs to her, taps her on the cheek, shakes her shoulders, does whatever he can think, but nothing works. “Fuck, fuck, fuck,” he says, looking around with wild eyes.

“Eddie,” he gasps, running back to the phone. “Robin- I need-”

“My number?” Eddie confirms, reciting it when Steve nods.

He waits impatiently for the phone to connect. “Hi, Mr. Wayne,” he says as politely as he can manage, though he knows his voice is thin. “Can I speak to Robin, please?” One more pause, then his voice breaks when he says, “Robin? It’s Alli. He’s got her.” He swallows, takes a breath, and says in a voice barely above a whisper, “Vecna’s got my sister.”

Given the scathing reviews, I didn't expect much, and yet I smooth-sailed throughout this mildly entertaining, mildly crude comedy, featuring okay performances by some of my favorite actors. Still waiting for Milligan to land a role that would surpass his fantastic turn at Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency. So far it's unfortunately mostly this and other Mack & Ritas. Janney, Platt, and Bell have an efortlessly breezy chemistry despite the so-so screenplay.

A Guide to Historically Accurate Regency-Era Names

I recently received a message from a historical romance writer asking if I knew any good resources for finding historically accurate Regency-era names for their characters.

Not knowing any off the top of my head, I dug around online a bit and found there really isn’t much out there. The vast majority of search results were Buzzfeed-style listicles which range from accurate-adjacent to really, really, really bad.

I did find a few blog posts with fairly decent name lists, but noticed that even these have very little indication as to each name’s relative popularity as those statistical breakdowns really don't exist.

I began writing up a response with this information, but then I (being a research addict who was currently snowed in after a blizzard) thought hey - if there aren’t any good resources out there why not make one myself?

As I lacked any compiled data to work from, I had to do my own data wrangling on this project. Due to this fact, I limited the scope to what I thought would be the most useful for writers who focus on this era, namely - people of a marriageable age living in the wealthiest areas of London.

So with this in mind - I went through period records and compiled the names of 25,000 couples who were married in the City of Westminster (which includes Mayfair, St. James and Hyde Park) between 1804 to 1821.

So let’s see what all that data tells us…

To begin - I think it’s hard for us in the modern world with our wide and varied abundance of first names to conceive of just how POPULAR popular names of the past were.

If you were to take a modern sample of 25-year-old (born in 1998) American women, the most common name would be Emily with 1.35% of the total population. If you were to add the next four most popular names (Hannah, Samantha, Sarah and Ashley) these top five names would bring you to 5.5% of the total population. If you were to do the same survey in Regency London - the most common name would be Mary with 19.2% of the population. Add the next four most popular names (Elizabeth, Ann, Sarah and Jane) and with just 5 names you would have covered 62% of all women.

To hit 62% of the population in the modern survey it would take the top 400 names.

The top five Regency men’s names (John, William, Thomas, James and George) have nearly identical statistics as the women’s names.

I struggled for the better part of a week with how to present my findings, as a big list in alphabetical order really fails to get across the popularity factor and also isn’t the most tumblr-compatible format. And then my YouTube homepage recommended a random video of someone ranking all the books they’d read last year - and so I present…

The Regency Name Popularity Tier List

The Tiers

S+ - 10% of the population or greater. There is no modern equivalent to this level of popularity. 52% of the population had one of these 7 names.

S - 2-10%. There is still no modern equivalent to this level of popularity. Names in this percentage range in the past have included Mary and William in the 1880s and Jennifer in the late 1970s (topped out at 4%).

A - 1-2%. The top five modern names usually fall in this range. Kids with these names would probably include their last initial in class to avoid confusion. (1998 examples: Emily, Sarah, Ashley, Michael, Christopher, Brandon.)

B - .3-1%. Very common names. Would fall in the top 50 modern names. You would most likely know at least 1 person with these names. (1998 examples: Jessica, Megan, Allison, Justin, Ryan, Eric)

C - .17-.3%. Common names. Would fall in the modern top 100. You would probably know someone with these names, or at least know of them. (1998 examples: Chloe, Grace, Vanessa, Sean, Spencer, Seth)

D - .06-.17%. Less common names. In the modern top 250. You may not personally know someone with these names, but you’re aware of them. (1998 examples: Faith, Cassidy, Summer, Griffin, Dustin, Colby)

E - .02-.06%. Uncommon names. You’re aware these are names, but they are not common. Unusual enough they may be remarked upon. (1998 examples: Calista, Skye, Precious, Fabian, Justice, Lorenzo)

F - .01-.02%. Rare names. You may have heard of these names, but you probably don’t know anyone with one. Extremely unusual, and would likely be remarked upon. (1998 examples: Emerald, Lourdes, Serenity, Dario, Tavian, Adonis)

G - Very rare names. There are only a handful of people with these names in the entire country. You’ve never met anyone with this name.

H - Virtually non-existent. Names that theoretically could have existed in the Regency period (their original source pre-dates the early 19th century) but I found fewer than five (and often no) period examples of them being used in Regency England. (Example names taken from romance novels and online Regency name lists.)

Just to once again reinforce how POPULAR popular names were before we get to the tier lists - statistically, in a ballroom of 100 people in Regency London: 80 would have names from tiers S+/S. An additional 15 people would have names from tiers A/B and C. 4 of the remaining 5 would have names from D/E. Only one would have a name from below tier E.

I was going to continue on and write about why Regency-era first names were so uniform, discuss historically accurate surnames, nicknames, and include a little guide to finding 'unique' names that are still historically accurate - but this post is already very, very long, so that will have to wait for a later date.

Methodology notes: All data is from marriage records covering six parishes in the City of Westminster between 1804 and 1821. The total sample size was 50,950 individuals.

I chose marriage records rather than births/baptisms as I wanted to focus on individuals who were adults during the Regency era rather than newborns. I think many people make the mistake when researching historical names by using baby name data for the year their story takes place rather than 20 to 30 years prior, and I wanted to avoid that. If you are writing a story that takes place in 1930 you don’t want to research the top names for 1930, you need to be looking at 1910 or earlier if you are naming adult characters.

I combined (for my own sanity) names that are pronounced identically but have minor spelling differences: i.e. the data for Catherine also includes Catharines and Katherines, Susannah includes Susannas, Phoebe includes Phebes, etc.

The compound 'Mother's/Grandmother's maiden name used as first name' designation is an educated guesstimate based on what I recognized as known surnames, as I do not hate myself enough to go through 25,000+ individuals and confirm their mother's maiden names. So if the tally includes any individuals who just happened to be named Fitzroy/Hastings/Townsend/etc. because their parents liked the sound of it and not due to any familial relations - my bad.

I did a small comparative survey of 5,000 individuals in several rural communities in Rutland and Staffordshire (chosen because they had the cleanest data I could find and I was lazy) to see if there were any significant differences between urban and rural naming practices and found the results to be very similar. The most noticeable difference I observed was that the S+ tier names were even MORE popular in rural areas than in London. In Rutland between 1810 and 1820 Elizabeths comprised 21.4% of all brides vs. 15.3% in the London survey. All other S+ names also saw increases of between 1% and 6%. I also observed that the rural communities I surveyed saw a small, but noticeable and fairly consistent, increase in the use of names with Biblical origins.

I have decided today I am giving out my Steve Harrington headcanons, because I love him so much.

His parents are very rich. His dad is new money, self made. His mom is old money.

His father is Indiana born and bred, but his mother is from Kentucky. She doesn't have her accent anymore because she trained herself out of it. Though it does show up when she's drunk or angry.

I know everyone does Richard (Dick) for his dad mainly for the lols, which I respect, but I think his name is Clint. It's just rich dude bro enough, you know? And then for the mom I go back and forth between Maureen and Allison. Allison because that's Ally Sheedy's character in The Breakfast Club and I often use her looks as bases for Mrs. Harrington.

They were never meant to be parents. They had the one because that's what was expected of them, but no. They don't like kids.

I don't know if his dad is only verbally abusive, but he is some kind of shit. Steve was so scared of him finding out that there was alcohol the night Barb vanished that that was all that consumed his thoughts. And even in season 3 Steve tells Dustin (thinking he was his dad) that he doesn't do drugs, just marijuana. Meaning that's something they've fought about a lot.

Kids of good parents rarely smoke, drink, smoke pot, and have wild parties all the time as an under-aged teenager. There are no doubt exceptions, but most of the time it's kids who are neglected and abused that are the ones that act out like that.

Steve had nannies and baby-sitters growing up that he saw more than his parents. But he would still be taken on actual vacations with them. Mostly to show off that they do have a son.

He was in baseball in middle school but quit when he got into high school. His parents put him in as many after school activities as they could. He was taught piano. Went to swimming and was so good at it, he joined the team in high school. Played basketball throughout both middle and high school. But he was forced to dropout due to the concussion Billy gave him his senior year. It's why he sneers at Brenda at the game when she says it would ironic if they won the championship the year after he graduated. Because he wasn't even on the team his last year.

When he turned sixteen they gave him his BMW. No, he did not get to pick the car or the color, but he takes very good care of it. Does a lot of the maintenance himself. One of the few things his dad taught him, but because you needed to know enough to make sure your mechanic wasn't ripping you off.

He can cook. But only if he has a recipe to follow and will get upset if it doesn't look like the picture. Is a consummate baker though. Because everything has a reason it's done like that and it makes sense.

Definitely a fall baby. That's why he was able to lifeguard for three years even if he didn't lifeguard after his senior year due to him working at Scoops Ahoy.

He's bad at math and science which is why the Party teases him all the time, but he's great at English and history.

Only applied at the schools his dad thought were "appropriate" and didn't get in. But to be fair, he was still suffering from a concussion when those applications went out and he wasn't really at his best. Just above his worst if he was honest.

He likes his preppy clothes and while he laughs it off, it upsets him when he's made fun for it.

Alt rock fan all the way. Depeche Mode, The Cure, New Order.

Has a list of the Party's likes and dislikes for food and other things, so he is the best gift giver. He doesn't spend a lot of money, though he has been accused of that a couple of times. But he prefers well thought out gifts over expensive ones. It's why Max, Eddie, and the Byers boys love Steve gifts. They never feel pressured to one up him.

Complete romantic. Loves being in love, but it was hard to pick up the pieces of his broken heart after what happened with Nancy.

Loves Robin, but even though it is sometimes weird, it never veers into creepy or obsessive. Robin is absolutely the vodka aunt of the party to Steve's mom.

When Eddie comes into the group, they tease him that's he's the dad to Steve's mom. Because as goofy as Eddie is he absolutely wouldn't let the kids get into real trouble.

Steve the romantic gets absolutely wooed by Eddie and never is made to feel wrong footed when showers Eddie with the affection he would for a girl. It's nice for a guy to receive flowers sometimes too.

Steve favorite flower is sunflowers. But his favorite color is blue.

He absolutely keeps the vest. Refuses to give it back. Which Eddie is surprisingly okay with.

I could go on forever, but I'll stop there for now and if I come up with more I'll add them later.

A Chaotic Introduction - S.Harrington

Summary - Steve and Y/N have been together for a few months, the kids being friends with both of them and having no idea that they're dating. Steve finally introduces her as his girlfriend to the group and chaos ensues.

Author’s note - For the goth aspect of the reader, I was thinking more of Allison Reynolds from The Breakfast Club. Still gothic but not like anything crazy.

Steve had been talking about this new girl he was seeing constantly. They had started dating a few months back after being introduced through Eddie. She was way out of Steve’s league but they were happy together, he couldn’t fathom how she was willing to date him, someone who was the king of Hawkins turned loser, the kind of guy to make fun of the kind of girl she was. Steve was never a bully though, he played along with Tommy and Carol but never actually went out of his way unless it was to protect someone. 

So imagine his surprise when she agreed to go on a date, and then another and then another and then finally agreeing to be his girlfriend after the third date. She loved the fact that Steve was a gentleman, that he loved her with his whole heart and cared about her more than himself. 

He was constantly rambling about her and she was constantly rambling about him. The younger teens of the group were curious about who they were both talking about, begging the couple to meet their significant others not knowing it was each other. They had agreed, Steve saying that he would introduce her at the next movie night at his house. So as the movie night approached and everyone in the group slowly filed into his house, they were getting eager to see who the mystery girl was. 

“She’s upstairs getting ready, give her a few minutes, will ya?” Steve told the kids as they pestered him as to her whereabouts. 

“Steven, how’s the relationship going? You treating her good?” Eddie questioned him.

“You know I am Munson. I’d never hurt her,” He told her best friend.

“That is the correct answer. I’ll keep the little sheep distracted for a bit so you can check on her.” Steve mouthed a thank you to the rocker before sneaking his way upstairs to his room. She was sitting on the edge of his bed with a mirror compact in one hand and an eyeliner pencil in the other. He watched from the doorway as she lined her eyes with the black pencil, smudging it a little bit with her fingers before closing the compact and looking at her boyfriend. 

“Hi handsome! You excited for movie night?” She asked him with a smile.

“Only because you’re here. You ready to head down?” He replied with a wink as he walked towards her. She nodded causing him to hold out his hand for her to grab, helping her up off of the bed. 

“Can I get a kiss first? I’ve been neglected today,” She pouted at him causing him to chuckle.

“I’m sorry, my poor baby hasn’t gotten her kisses today. Let’s make this right.” 

Steve leaned down and kissed her deeply, making her let out a squeak of surprise as she wrapped her arms around his neck. Just as he felt her tongue on his lips, his name was screamed out from the bottom of the stairs. “Fucking Dustin, I swear. That kid had no patience. Wait a damn minute Henderson!” He swore before shouting back at the boy. She laughed loudly, kissing his cheek before taking his hand once more. Steve stole one more little peck before guiding her to the stairs. “Go wait on the couch! You’re gonna spoil the surprise!” He scolded the younger kids. There was a collective groan before a chorus of shuffling to the living room.

The pair took their time going down the stairs, just to irk the younger ones a little more. They walked into the living room hand in hand, a dramatic gasp coming from Dustin. “I thought you and Eddie were dating! It was Steve this whole time!?” He shouted in surprise.

“Mike, you owe me 20 bucks,” Max said casually with a smirk on her face.

“Since when!? You don’t hide things from me Steve! I feel betrayed!” Dustin continued, “And you! Don’t get me started with you! It’s like seeing my sister date my brother! It’s gross!”

“Eww Dustin! Never say that again! I’m gonna puke,” Y/N complained.

“Wait a second, why aren’t you surprised?” Dustin pointed at Eddie with an interrogative look on his face.

“Because I set them up. Of course I’m not surprised. Harrington is just her type and princess is just his type. Perfect couple right there, all thanks to me,” Eddie bragged with a proud gleam in his eye.

The couple listened to everyone bicker back and forth about keeping secrets and lying, slowly backing out of the room and towards the back door. They escaped without notice, finding peace outside in the cold winter air. Her free hand dug into her pocket, searching around before pulling out quickly with a proud smile. Between her black manicured fingers was a rolled joint. “I rolled it when I was hiding upstairs, you wanna share?”

Steve pulled a lighter from his pocket, flicking the ignitor until a flame appeared. Y/N held the joint to her lips as Steve lit the tip, inhaling the smoke, letting it sit in her lungs for a moment before exhaling. She held the joint out to Steve who took a hit from the joint in her hand. Even outside they could still hear the arguing of the rest of the group but they were just enjoying each other’s company. Ignoring the noise coming from inside and focusing on each other.

Healthy/Unhealthy ENTP

1.Stiles Stilinski 

-Healthy use of his NeTi and was always In touch with his tert Fe. While his Si isn't something he ever gives that much use to he still manages to have grounded plans. Usually Lydia or Allison ground him back in reality.

2.Olive Penderghast

-Overall her functions are very well developed and she uses her TiFe in allot of he decision making. However mid movie we see her going full NeFe and ignoring her true desires in order to please others. 

3.Dustin Henderson

-Probably the most realistic depiction of Ne in media. He is still interested in exploring multiple possibilities in realistic manners that make sense. Overall we don’t see much of his Fe however when we do he usually uses to pull the group together.

4.Himeno 

-Unhealthy use of NeFe, constantly wondering who she is un relation to others. In her desire to find happiness in her line of work she ends up struggling to make any meaningful connections. 

5.Tony Stark

-He embodies all of the short comings of NeTi. All of his plans are complete flimsy and usually lack allot of detail and realistic outcomes. And when faced with backlash from others he tends to ignore it due to pride.

Eddie’s heart thumps oddly once again, this time because Steve had used his name. He’d already become used to Eds. He ignores it and spreads his hands. “I’m willing to accept whatever you’ll give me,” he says quietly. “I’m still groveling, here, I’m not exactly in a position to be making demands.”

Steve smiles. It doesn’t reach his eyes, and Eddie hates it. “That’s the thing, though. It’s complicated. I don’t know how to define it.”

Eddie hums. “We’re slightly to the left of best friends.”

Steve snickers. “That’s pretty spot-on, actually.”

Eddie shrugs and grins, feeling oddly proud of himself for figuring it out and making Steve smile.

They stand in silence for a minute until Alli pops her head out of the kitchen. “Are you two gonna kiss again? Or is now a good time to offer food?”

Steve snorts and pitches forward to rest his forehead against Eddie’s shoulder. “Al, you’re awful.”

“You love me,” she responds immediately, grinning at Eddie.

Eddie grins back and pokes at Steve’s arm. “She’s offering us food, Stevie, I’m inclined to say yes.”

Steve chuckles before leaning back to smile at Eddie. “Yeah, alright,” he decides, “I could eat.”

Eddie reaches out, links their hands, silently offers Steve an out.

He doesn’t take it, instead grips Eddie’s hand more surely, and something in Eddie’s chest settles.

They walk into the kitchen, hand-in-hand, and Steve grins and shakes his head when Alli starts cooing at them. “Yeah, okay,” he says, then, seemingly out of nowhere, “Hey, you should invite Cassidy over soon.”

Eddie looks between the siblings as they have a silent conversation mostly consisting of eyebrows and head tilts that ends with Steve grinning and Alli shaking her head, trying to hide a smile. “So,” Steve says, “what did you make?”

Alli chuckles and hops up backwards onto the counter by the stove. “Mac and cheese.”

“Ooh,” Steve says, instantly intrigued. He lets go of Eddie’s hand to peer into the pot. “With the good cheese?”

“With the good cheese,” Alli agrees.

Steve whirls around to grin at Eddie. “You’re gonna love this,” he says, “Alli makes the best mac and cheese.”

Eddie grins. “I dunno, Stevie, I think my uncle’s boxed mac might have her beat.”

Steve laughs, shaking his head as he gets three bowls out. He tilts his head towards a drawer. “There’s forks in there, can you grab some?”

Eddie does so, and just as they’re finishing serving themselves, someone opens the front door.

“Steve?” A voice calls. “You home?”

Steve sighs and puts his bowl down. “The little shit,” he mutters, moving out into the living room. “Dustin, what are you doing here?”

The answer is too quiet for Eddie to hear, so he eats his food and eyes Steve’s bowl. Alli laughs at him. “Don’t even think about it,” she says seriously, “Steve’s fought me for less.” Eddie gives her his best innocent who, me? look, and she grins at him. “Oh, you’re gonna be trouble. I like you.”

His grin turns smaller, shyer. “Thank you for not kicking my ass on sight, earlier,” he murmurs.

She grins and nudges his shoulder with her fist. “Steve’s tough. He doesn’t need me to protect him.”

“Maybe,” Eddie says, “but it’s still nice to have someone in your corner.”

“Oh,” she murmurs suddenly. “I forgot.”

Eddie’s brow furrows. “Forgot what?”

“The stories. ‘Bout why you’re here, in Forest Hills, ‘stead of wherever he is.”

She says he in a way that Eddie knows she knows exactly what’s meant by those two little letters. He swallows a lump. “Yeah,” he murmurs back. “‘S why I know.”

She smiles at him. “Your… uncle, right?”

Eddie smiles back. “Yeah. Wayne. He’s… he’s pretty great.”

Alli rests a hip on the counter. “Tell me about him?”

Stomach full of food, safe and warm and happy in this house, with the sound of his maybe-boyfriend scolding his pseudo-younger brother in the other room, Eddie grins and hops up onto the counter. “Gladly.”

Towards the end of his story, Steve comes huffing into the kitchen, making a beeline for the phone. He punches a number in and waits. “Hi, Mrs. Buckley,” he says politely. “Is Robin home?” He listens for a moment, says, “Okay, thank you,” and hangs up, turning to Eddie. “What’s your number?”

Eddie blinks before grinning, and Steve good-naturedly rolls his eyes. “Not like that, you ass,” he chuckles. Eddie relents and rattles off the numbers, and Steve punches those in before waiting again. “Hi, Mr. Munson,” Steve says. Eddie mouths the words and makes a face, and Alli snorts at him. “Is Robin there still?” A pause, then, “Ah,” as his cheeks pinken. “Yes, sir. He did.” Another few seconds later, “Hey. The little shit found Dart.” He sighs and runs his hand through his hair. “That’s the thing, though, is it did help. He fuckin’ domesticated the thing.” A laugh, then, “well I’m not gonna tell him.” A squawk, “I am not his-” he cuts off abruptly and pulls the phone from his ear to frown at it. “She hung up on me!”
