I wanna talk about Elijah Walton and what he and his brother represent in the story because I think it's really interesting.
It's really interesting how Elijah and Don are pretty much an exact mirror of Walt and Roy Disney, even down to their roles in the company. Walt and Elijah were the creatives and Roy and Don were the finance and when Walt died, Roy took over. Atleast this is according to a quick google search. (Though I dont really like comparing Elijah to Walt to a tee just because he was a raging Racist, Sexist and overall bigot while also exploiting his workers and Elijah is propped up to very much be a good person by the narrative, so I'd like to think Elijah wasnt those things atleast for the purpose of this analysis)
Elijah represents those who want to tell stories. The artists, writers, creators etc. He represents the wonder and joy of creating things for others to see and the passion behind it. He is what Walt Disney presented himself as, a fatherly and whimsical story teller sharing art with the masses. His demeanor is warm, inviting and friendly.
Meanwhile Don represents the capital. He looks to what will be profitable, what will make the shareholders happy. He doesnt care about the creativity, evident by the fact their films take a bit of a back seat to American Arcadia and they are willing to let Kovacs go when he is no longer helpful to them. Hes cold, stilted and professional.
In equilibrium Creativity and Money can work, atleast in the society we live in now it does. You need money to create, and creativity makes money, so both are incredibly important. You cant focus too heavily on the creativity otherwise things get too ambitious, people get overworked, it will take too long to finish and you cant fund it. You cant focus too heavily on the money otherwise you will cut corners, exploit people and overall create uncreative pandering art in an effort to make as much money as possible. They need to work together.
And we see them working together with the rise of Walton Pictures.
But what we also see in AA and in our real lives too is the money taking over. We see it in the Arcadians, people who's lives are recorded without their consent, who are brainwashed to remain inside the dome to keep on making money for the company and when they are no longer useful they are basically thrown out. People who are used basically as toys to make Walton more money and for our entertainment. We see it in Disney now, in their under payed Writers, Actors and Animators who have to strike to be payed livable wages. You see it in the sweatshop workers making their merchandise, the exploitation of other people's cultures (see, Disney trying to Trademark fucking Dia De Los Muertos or just the movie Pocahontas) and much more.
The fact that Elijah's death was what caused the turning point for the company to go down into this hellish capitalistic spiral is very poignant. It shows that when Creativity dies and Money takes over, all you are left with greed and suffering.
Oh my goodness! It’s either you guys love the descendent idea, or that Vivian got punched in the face! It’s got to the point that some of the people who created the game liked it on Twitter! So have yourselves a better design of Willow Malton and a defrosted talking head of a dismayed Elijah Walton.
I just realized that my last imagine might make it sound like Elijah Walton was crushing on Kovacs, but no, they are just friends and coworkers! Haha, unless...? (Like I see it as platonic but having Elijah go through an "OH NO, IT IS THE 50'S, I AM PROBABLY MARRIED, AND I HAVE A CRUSH ON MY FRIEND AND COWORKER WHO IS THE SAME GENDER AS ME, OH NO" process is also narratively compelling.) Didn't expect my brain to come up with the possibility of a Elijah Walton/Kovacs ship today, not gonna lie.
LMAO anon, it's okay.
We all had moments where we looked at two characters and thought "hm, and they were roommates". I wouldn't be surprised if Elijah Walton got a crush on this silver fox old man that gets along well with kids and is gentle, smart, and skillful.
Anyways if someone makes fanart/fanfic of these two I'm not complaining. I don't quite shipp them...? But who knows :0
Earl of Plymouth Monument, Bromsgrove Lickey, Worcestershire
In 1833 Other Archer Windsor, 6th Earl of Plymouth, died. Almost immediately there were calls to erect a monument in his honour, and a public subscription was raised. With funds in place, the foundation stone was laid in May 1834. The chosen site was on Bromsgrove Lickey, a prominent eminence which would ensure that the obelisk would be an ornament to the landscape and visible from miles…

This was a strange movie. The individual performances were pretty good, but it didn’t go the way I thought it would. I will say that the ending was very sweet. I didn’t think I was going to like it, but overall this movie wasn’t that bad. Just a little strange at times.
Sex/nudity: 3/10 (kissing, man seen naked from behind and the side with no genitalia shown, woman in underwear)
Language: 2/10 (mild for the most part)
Violence: 2/10 (fistfight, some slapping, someone gets run over by a car)
Today is my last day of being 24. So, to celebrate, here's something I've been working on the side. I wanted to try out the American Arcadia style as a challenge. Have colored versions of Willow Malton and Elijah Walton. If you guys want to use this concept in your American Arcadia Fanfics or Fanart, have fun with these two. Even Out of the Blue studio can have this for free if they want to make a sequel if the demand is there.
If you are struggling with ideas and need a backstory to brainstorm: The local Broadway actress and dancer about to have her breakout performance has her life ruined by a DNA 23 and Me test dare. Now, given the custody of a talking head of her grandfather/great-grandfather, to have it all, she'll have to dance and run for her life.
I’m listening to the Old Testament Yale courses and the professor, Christine Hayes, said that God is not one of nature but of History. She was referencing the passage of 1 Kings 19: 11-14. I thought that was fascinating. Because he was not in the earthquake or the fire or the wind. He was a whisper. “What are you doing here, Elijah?” And he tells him to go back.
this (history/nature) is not a binary the biblical authors would have wielded, yet it is true that the deuteronomistic historian unattaches hashem from the natural tether the earlier authors (call them elohist and jahwist if you'd like) hold tightly onto. i think walton has it most right when he names hashem as "a cosmic deity, a covenant deity, a national deity and a family deity." though in the ancient world, none of this could be parsed out
“To be nobody-but-yourself — in a world which is doing its best, night and day, to make you everybody else — means to fight the hardest battle which any human being can fight; and never stop fighting.”
So I found some Rawfury videos of Yuri Lowenthal, Krizia Bajos and Cissy Jones talking about their characters and talking about the game before it was released (I was looking for clips for OC voice claims) and there was something in Cissy's Vivian video that kinda stuck out to me.
So what she says about Vivian exactly is:
"Arcadia to her is- its not only where she's built her career, its where she's building her legacy, and uh, for her this is something really important. She wants to leave something of value, something that's worth a lot to people-"
Now, from a non spoiler point of view this is like, oh yeah rich Ceo lady wants to leave a mark on the world. Ceos are always talking about legacy, wanting to leave something behind, be something great yadda yadda. Added bonus if you know that she's supposed to be Elijah's '''Granddaughter''', she wants to continue her family's legacy all checks out.
But, knowing who she really is, not Elijah's granddaughter but one of the Arcadia 6, makes this sentence a lot more interesting.
You could see this as her wanting to remake her legacy, because she technically already had one. Emily Garland is one of the 6 Arcadian born citizens to escape the dome, that's something pretty cool to be known for. But she threw that away, she sold out and chose to support the very company that oppressed her and many others like her. So now she has to make something more of herself to justify that choice. If she can make Arcadia greater, bring it out of its current slump like Howard Ashman did for Disney, then she's no longer the escapee who sold out because she was too weak to handle the outside world, she's the amazing woman who made American Arcadia popular again!
Cissy goes on to say:
"-and so she works really really hard to make this thing, um, the best it can be with the most interesting people-"
(She also goes on to call Trevor 'a bit of an L 7' or a square and I think that's really funny, like yeah, yeah he wouldn't be there, he would be square)
She does work really hard to leave something that, in her eyes, is positive to her image. She's reinventing herself to make her crawling back to the company worth it. To prove to herself that it wasn't a mistake and to leave a legacy that, hopefully, most people will look fondly on instead of in contempt or betrayal. She wants to leave something of value, because I can imagine there is a part of her that doesn't hold any value in herself, not after failing to make a difference that actually mattered and becoming part of the problem.
And I dunno I feel like that adds just an extra layer to her which is pretty cool. I could also be reading way too much into this idk.
Anyway, the other two videos are very cool too. Yuri talks about how Trevor's life isn't boring like Walton thinks it is, its just 'Exciting in the wrong way'. He also talks about how he thinks lots of people will relate to Trevor (So true) and how just because your life may be simple, it doesn't mean its boring and not worth living which I think is very sweet. Thank you Yuri.
Krizia talks about how she really related to Angela because she grew up on Puerto Rico and how she got to add a couple of 'spicy words' as she put it, in her dialogue for a bit of extra authenticity. She also talked about how Walton was the job Angela always wanted, but after 'peaking behind the curtain' she realised that it wasn't the dream she thought is was, it's both kinda heart breaking but also very relatable, especially I'm sure to those in the entertainment industry. It makes me really want to know what her 'peak behind the curtain' moment was and what the steps where to get her to this point in more detail (Hey hey, Out of the Blue, hey please. please make that prologue thing you said was a good idea of mine on twitter. Hey, please? Please? It has the Regi Davis stamp of approval, please?)
The videos are very cool I'll put them under the cut if you're interested. I just wanted to have a ramble cause I haven't in a while and I've just been thinking about this.
