I've been wanting to do this post for a while now so here is EVERYTHING I CAN TELL YOU ABOUT THE GHOULS' IMPERA COSTUMES.

Buckle up because I have a LOT to say about those, this is gonna be a very long one.

The costumes were designed by B Åkerlund, a Swedish costume designer who's worked with Ghost since at least Meliora (that's as far back as I was willing to scroll on her Instagram page lol). B Åkerlund has also worked for many other musical artists such as Lady Gaga, Beyoncé, Madonna, the Rolling Stones, Ozzy Osborne, Blink 182 and Hollywood Undead (information from her own website)

The masks were made by Bob Basset, a visual artists who works a lot with leather. I find his work fascinating, you can look him up on Instagram (nsfw warning, there's a few naked ladies).

Fun fact! The horns are real cow horns. That's the reason some of them have gold tips, to hide the imperfections that come with working with actual horns.

He does have a shop where he sells his items, there's a mask there very similar to the Impera ones. You can also buy Papa's batwings if you happen to have 2500$ lying around!

The jackets are made on the same model as one of Papa's. The back is decorated with a spine-like design made from leather and cording. It's adorned with a few of our classic Impera buttons. Some of the hems were left raw and some deliberate weathering was done to make it look old and worn.

Fun fact! The shoulder pieces are not sewn into the garment, I would assume for easier cleaning. I don't know if they're held by strong magnets or snap buttons.

The vest (my beloved 😩) is made from flocked velvet in a paisley pattern, the front hems embellished with satin piping. It closes in the front with custom metal clasps that are riveted into the garment. The D parts are attached with what seems to me like wide elastic, which would lessen the pression on the clasps when moving around a lot. The back is made from two different types of fabric, I'd have to touch it to be able to tell you what they are. I assume the panels closer to the sides have some mild stretch to them. The top of the shoulders are decorated with Impera grucifix patches.

The shirts were not custom made for the ghouls, altho they were altered. The original shirt in the vintage painter linen shirt from Punk Rave and it is still being sold. Some of the cuffs were altered, removing the ruffles for some of the ghouls, but not all. They were removed for Dew, Mountain and Phantom, Aether's didn't have them either. As far as I can tell, all the ghoulettes still have them.

An unfinished piece of linen serves as an ascot, that piece is decorated with a metal devil skull. The colour of the skull doesn't appear to be consistent between each ghoul, Dew's looks gold almost bronze while Phantom's is a silver-like colour.

Another modification is the buttons, a small portion of them were removed in favor of our Impera buttons. Some of the ghouls have more buttons replaced than others, which is still a mystery to me.

The pants are called Jodhpurs, they were invented in the 1800s as horse riding pants. The wide part at the hips and thighs allowing for better movement. The ones the ghouls wear don't reach all the way to their ankles, they stop a bit past the calf muscle, hidden by the boots. (Yes, the ghouls are effectively wearing capri pants)

The boots are motorcycle riding boots, decorated by a grucifix. Like the shirt, they can still be bought online through the All American Boots website, altho the price tag is... Headache inducing to say the least.

The cape is a piece of costume that was only briefly worn on stage by the ghouls, Aurora being the only one who still wears one. I would assume it gets in the way of playing very easily. The cape itself is made of two fabrics, a light blue satin and a dark grey suede. The two pieces are not sewn together at the bottom, they move freely from each other. The cape is attached on the left shoulder with a harness piece that has one strap across the chest, decorated with a metal buckle, and one under the armpit.

Hi!! First i one to say that i absolutely adore your HC's for westeros and essos fashion. They are incredibly spot on *Chef's kiss*. I was wondering if you had any ideas for the free cities like Pentos, Braavos, Tyrosh, Lys, Myr, etc. Certainly i am more interested in Braavos and its courtesans, since in the book is implied that the nobles use more dark colors and the commoners more colorful clothes (unlike westeros, that is the contrary).

Let’s go 🫡🫡 (I think I’ll focus on Braavos here but if you want more of the others just let me know!)

I think besides the classic dark dyes of Braavos, another tell on whether a person is Braavosi is the amount of detailing on their clothing. Ruffles, gilding, lace, patterns etc on a persons clothing are all a staple of a fashionable Braavosi who can afford to buy things from foreign ships at the ports. The shape of the clothing itself can be described as flowing and practical. Skirts usually stop at the ankle due to the water, and can be layered during the cold months. Jackets have detachable sleeves for optimal water dancing movement. Loose veils are worn to either keep out sun or a winter chills.

The rich obviously have more embellished, expensive clothing, but also have noticeably longer clothing. Your skirt can’t trail in the canals and your veil can’t get caught on something in the market if you’re riding through the streets on a covered palanquin. They have the luxury of clothing that is harder to move in, because they don’t really need to move around much. Also they may buy bright foreign dyes as a status symbol, but there’s some controversy over whether or not it makes a Braavosi noblewoman look like a whore

As for the courtesans themselves, they can usually be spotted by wearing bright foreign dyes as an attempt to be eye catching or “exotic” or by wearing the classic dark Braavosi colors in an effort to seem more upper class. However, courtesans can almost always be spotted due to the tighter silhouette they prefer to wear over the flat, rather shapeless lines of the upper classes. They tightly belt their waists and wear slashed sleeves and skirts to give the illusion of a longer, more willowy figure

The bravos and swords of the city definitely dress…eccentrically. High leather boots, puffed pants that stop at the knee, loose shirts and jackets that are easy to move in and can be thrown off at a moments notice. All perfect for an impromptu sword fight on the narrow streets and long canals. Men’s clothing is just as elaborately decorated, if not sometimes more so, than the women’s. For anyone living in the wealthiest of the free cities, status symbols are as important to them as breathing

The folk costumes of several villages around Szécsény (#Hollókő, Rimóc, Lóc) show numerous similar characteristics. Colourful ribbons embellish the girls’ braids, while the composite headdress and headkerchief of married women covers part of their foreheads. The young girls wear light-coloured beads, the middle-aged women wear blue and green necklaces, but it is considered improper for older women to wear any beads at all. The shirt is usually made of linen, although they also used tulle. On top of that goes the narrowly folded shawl, so that most of the shirt remains visible. The embroidered leather bodice was worn mostly by the more prosperous people. Women liked to use blue-dyed material for skirts, as its dark colour set off the apron, which reached almost all the way around the short skirt, so short that its wearer’s calf was visible above the top of the boot. Many people have admired the varied and beautiful headdresses of the {344.} Palots women. Shoulder shawls were not worn from the beginning of the century, and as a consequence, the bodice neck became closed and was richly ornamented. The skirt is the most characteristic part of the local costume. It reached to mid-calf or even to the ankle, and is made of heavy brocade and velvet with ornate fringes for holiday use, or of lighter blue-dyed material for everyday use. A homespun apron, patterned with red, was tied in the front.

Task 004: Maria Ortiz's Wardrobe

How important is fashion and staying current trends to your character?

Maria would often prefer to look at fashion trends and do literally the exact opposite just because deviating from what everyone else is doing, and making it noticeable, is very satisfying for her.

What colors does your character typically wear? Why do they choose that particular color?

Red represents a lot of who Maria is; fiery, vibrant, dangerous, sexy, individualistic, revolutionary, etc. Though her typical pirate/bandit wardrobe contains those rebellious colors of black and metallics, she wears the most red in her evening wear, when she is forced to go out to parties. That is when the attire itself feels the least like herself, and so to be covered entirely in red is the way that she can maintain her character.

Does your character like to wear a lot of embellishments? Or do they keep it more simple?

Maria's style has evolved a lot over the years, but nowadays, she is wearing much more simplistic fabrics so then her personality can really shine through, rather than previously hiding behind all of those adornments.

What does your character wear when they go to balls and social gatherings?

These days, Maria only wears proper royal attire to evening balls as to maintain the position she needs to light the spark of revolution. As previously stated, her dresses are the most red of anything she wears, but her skirts are bigger, her sleeves are tighter with puffs coming out at her shoulders, and she wears a traditional corset beneath her dress. It's aligns very much with traditional Spanish attire.

What does your character wear in their day-to-day life?

Last year, she had two lives; the traditional Spanish Princess and the Bandit, Esmeralda. Both were complete opposites; the Spanish princess being in heavy dresses and corsets and satin and lace, while the bandit wore trousers, pirate coats, belts, and puffy white shirts with loads of jewelry. The dichotomy of Maria's wardrobe has merged into one with what she tends to wear since the Reckoning, as she's beginning to discover who she is when she's not torn in two. Now she wears puffy shirts (black or white) with a non-traditional exposed corset (much like a wench), and some kind of single-layer skirt in solid colors (black, beige, red, etc).

How does your character style their hair?

Long, down, absolutely no accessories. Yes, it is considered most improper, but what is Maria if not being improper just for the bit? She wants jaws to drop from the scandal as she enters with her hair down.

What shoes does your character usually wear?

Maria can do it all in heels. She wears calf brown leather boots with lace ups at the front with a 2-3 inch heel. Oddly enough, the hells make her feel taller, which makes her more intimidating, in her mind. Over time, she's come to learn that they're not all that uncomfortable.

Does your character like to wear jewelry or any other accessories?

Absolutely. Though she claims her abundance of jewelry comes from Ortiz money as an act of defiance against the Bonaparte family for trying to steal their money over 10 years ago, Maria is truly wearing the jewelry she's stolen over the last 6 years. Perhaps the most important piece of jewelry is the necklace that she was found with; a coin with the name Esmeralda engraved on the back. It is the only piece of her missing childhood memories that she has, and it's the starting point on the search for her birth mother.

What does your character wear to sleep?

While it is customary to sleep in an ankle-length, modest night gown, Maria sleeps in black or red satin that barely reaches her thighs with little straps instead of sleeves. Quite provocative, indeed.

Hi love! Here are some of my suggestions:

Choose fitted long sleeves or bodysuits with a scoop neckline

Pair hard and soft fabrics together, like a (vegan) leather bustier and chiffon or satin skirt or a chiffon top with ruffled sleeves with a structured midi or maxi skirt in a thick knit, wool, leather, etc.

Play with wrap detailing on a dress (especially a knit or ribbed knit option)

Tie your hair with plush or embellished scrunchies and hair ties or style your hair in a sleek bun with a structured jacket, maxi skirt or straight-cut mini skirt

Experiment with square-toed ballet flats or frilled ankle socks that stick out of a sleek boot (like a lace-up or Chelsea boot)

Complete your look with a ruched/scrunchie bag (Ganni, Simon. Miller, Gia Studios, Nanushka, and Themoirè [cruelty-free] have great options under $300-400)

Marina Diamandis was the face of the Fall/Winter 2019 collection of luxury British footwear and accessories brand Kurt Geiger! The campaign was shot by Erik Torstensson.

Throughout the photoshoot, Marina wore a sparkly number from the ASOS “Edition” line. This silver sequined blazer features a slightly oversized fit, a double-breasted front with silver satin-covered buttons and silk lining.
