Why Oxfords and not Brogues? Is it the fit or the look? Just learning stuff
The name, “Oxfords—not brogues” stems from this idea of dressing fashionably and appropriately, but in a way that is timeless and not overly ostentatious. I chose the name after seeing the original Kingsman movie in 2014 as I felt it captured the spirit of my style advice.
The Oxford shoe is a classic gentleman’s shoe, originally popularized by students at Oxford University around 1800. The closed vamp style is timeless, and continues to be a staple in today’s menswear. Brogues are a similar style of shoe with added decorative perforations, originally designed to suit the wet country terrain of Scotland and Ireland. They give off a more casual and ostentatious feeling.
“Oxfords—not brogues,” is not advice to avoid brogues altogether. One of my favorite pairs of shoes are my Allen Edmonds Fifth Avenues that I wear almost every day, and those have some brogue detailing on the toe. Trendy and decorative menswear items have a time and place in a gentleman’s wardrobe. If you have to own just one shoe or the other, though, plain oxfords are a classic shoe that will keep you looking great in a wide variety of settings. By comparison, brogues have gone in and out of style over the last few decades. They are a little more limited on what you can wear them with, as well. The goal of my blog is to provide content inspired by that theme: stylish, but versatile and timeless.
The Kavalier has a great video discussing the origin of the phrase, “Oxfords—not brogues,” and the difference between the shoes:

How to find the perfect pair of jeans
The perfect pair of jeans can be hard to find, but it's definitely possible! In this post, we'll take you through the steps to finding your perfect pair of jeans. From fit to fabric, we'll help you find the jeans that make you feel and look your best. And don't forget, this is the first post in a series, so stay tuned for more!
There are 5 main types of body types;
Apple body type
People with this amazinggg body type usually have a large bust, waist, stomach and slimmer legs and hips
Tumblr media
They would definitely look great with either a high waisted ,flared,or bootcut jeans.
These kinda jeans would make the waist look smaller
Tumblr media
On to pear shape, my kinda body 🤓🤭🤭
We usually have a larger lower body including hips and thighs and smaller upper body
We look great in either skinny, straight legged and boyfriend jeans
Tumblr media
These help to balance out our lower body.
We also have the rectangle body types
pretty hot if you'd ask me 🤭😻
People with these body types have a straight silhouette, no difference between hips and bust
I'd recommend Skinny jeans, flared jeans and boyfriend Jean's as these would help create an illusion of curves
Tumblr media
There's alsooooo the hourglass body type 😛🤭 like that of Kylie Jenner 🤭🤭😻
These people usually have a small waist and larger bust and hips .They look great in high waisted jeans, skinny jeans, and straight legged jeans
Tumblr media
And lastly the inverted triangle 😗
They usually have broad shoulders and a tinier waist
Skinny, bootcut, and flares jeans would look great on them 😊
They help to balance the upper and lower body😌
Tumblr media
Remember guys these are just suggestions and guidelines - you don't have to follow them if you don't feel comfortable. The most important thing is to wear what makes you feel confident and beautiful, no matter what your body type is. Everyone is unique and beautiful.
Thank y'all for reading , like and follow please 😭🎀

We are all different in sizes, shapes, curves, and height. Body shapes were divided as – apple, rectangle, hourglass, pear and inverted triangle.
What dressing for your body shape does, is elongate your figure to make you look taller and more proportionate.
Knowing your body shape will help you figure out what works for YOU. It will help you find out what cuts and silhouettes work best for your body and how to work with them.
Right now, you spend a lot of time trying to imitate how clothes look on other people and their dimensions. What you should do is, adjust every outfit to YOU based on how YOU look.
If you want to improve your style, you can begin to follow styling recommendations for your body shape. Although it is only a suggestion on how to dress, it is important to dominate the basics before you break them.
Find your body shape and ask yourself some questions. How do YOU want to feel today? Comfortable? Chic? Sexy? What do you want your body to look like? What features do you want to accentuate? It is all possible with the right outfit. There are ways to achieve the look you want based on your body shape.

Hello! I don’t know if you’ve answered this before do you have any advice on finding your own signature style so it’s somewhat unique but also cohesive? I feel like I only have a few pieces in my wardrobe that I actually wear but I don’t have a distinct style or aesthetic. Any tips? Thank you!
Personal style takes experimentation and trial and error, so it may be a little bit of a process.
I would start by looking at the clothes you already have. Which ones do you wear the most? Which do you like on yourself and why? What pieces, colors, and styles do you feel comfortable and confident in? Are there any clothing stores or brands that show up a lot in the clothes that you wear the most? That can give you an idea of the clothes that make you feel the most confident and start to give you a general direction for what your personal style might be. For example, maybe you notice that you wear a lot of black and white, that you love your Doc Martens, and that you wear a lot of grungy, tee shirt dresses.
Then, think about what kind of style you want to have. Start by just collecting style inspiration - anything you feel drawn to. This could be from Pinterest, Reddit, YouTube, Instagram, celebrities' styles, fashion brands, fashion magazines, movies, TV shows, etc. Then, try to figure out what it is about those styles/people/items/outfits that you like. Make a list of the commonalities that you see - maybe there are fits, colors, fabrics, accessories, etc. that you see in a lot of the outfits. Maybe there's a common vibe that you're noticing between all of them. As you start finding patterns, you can start figuring out what you want to base your style around. For example, maybe you notice that a lot of your inspiration has a punky or grunge vibe, but with a feminine edge, that there are a lot of loose mini dresses with tough boots, leather, lace, gold and silver jewelry layered together.
From there, I would try and figure out three adjectives that describe that aspirational style you've put together from all of your inspiration images. This will help to clarify what you like about those outfits and help you find new items that would fit into that same style. When you're doing this, it can also be helpful to think of how you want other people to see you and what your overall "vibe" is. For example, maybe the adjectives you pull together are grungy, vintage, and feminine, and you want people to see you as being attractive but unapproachable.
After that, I would filter that aspirational style back through the lens of your real life. What features on yourself do you love? Which ones do you want to downplay, or do you feel insecure about? What kinds of considerations do you have for your clothes (machine washable, comfortable, soft, no tags, etc)? What kinds of outfits do you need, based on where you actually go and what you do on a day-to-day basis? You can have the best clothes in the world, but if it doesn't make you feel confident and if it doesn't work for your lifestyle, you're not going to wear them. For example, maybe you love your legs but don't want to draw attention to your chest, you need outfits for going to school, and everything needs to be machine washable. That might mean that mini dresses are off the table for everyday wear, but you can find other ways to get that same grungy, vintage, feminine, "I'm hot but you can't talk to me" kind of vibe.
Finally, I would go back to your closet and look at it through the lens of what you've learned about your style- the commonalities you found in your clothes and in your inspiration images, the adjectives you've identified, and the "real life" features you need to include. Which items in your closet fit that? What pieces would you need to get your dream style that are missing? This is the point where you can start selling or donating things that don't fit that style. Then, you can put together a wish list and start purchasing new items to replace the ones you got rid of and to create a more cohesive look. For example, maybe you realize that you need a leather jacket to pull your style together, and that you'll probably never wear that baby pink polo shirt you own (or whatever). This can also be an opportunity to play with the clothes you already have and see if there's a way to make them more in line with the style you want. Maybe you can dye them a different color to make them more "you", or alter them to fit better, or cut them into something else, or style them with pieces you wouldn't imagine they go with.
All that said, if you feel like all clothes look bad on you and you have no idea where to start, I like style systems (such as the Kibbe body type system) and color analysis as a place to start. I know that both of those suggestions are sometimes controversial, and people definitely take them too seriously, but I think it can help give people the language to describe what they don't like about the way certain clothes look on them and what they want instead. I wouldn't take them as rules, but rather as suggestions that might help point you in the right direction if you're totally lost. It's important to remember that these style systems are supposed to work with your personal style to create something that really works for you, not force you into an aesthetic that you don't suit.

So wait seasonal palettes are a lie? I didn't have to try and figure out what season I am? I WAS DECEIVED! TRICKED! PLAYED LIKE A CHEAP KAZOO!
as with all prescriptive rules made by people who don’t know you or your body, yes! seasonal color palettes can potentially be a source of information, academically speaking, but the way it’s presented is supremely unhelpful. for example, they can help you figure out if your skin tones are warm or cool, or if there are some colors that you already know you look good in, it can broaden your horizons and show you some others that will probably work too. unfortunately, the way it’s pitched is that these are the only colors you should ever wear, actually, and any other colors are not just Badwrong but also Ugly.
first of all, nothing in fashion is forbidden to you. it’s 2022, goddamnit.
secondly, it’s impossible for anyone to predict what will look good on you until you try it on. everything is on a case by case basis, and you’ll develop your personal guidelines through trial and error. the most important thing is to remember that if you don’t like something on you, it is not the fault of you or your body. you tried it! you learned something! thank you, next!
there is always room for surprises. for every single color or silhouette I thought I could never wear, there’s been an exception that made me completely rethink my ideas about what looks good on my body. again, only possible through trial and error.
do you wear more silver or gold jewelry? if silver, your skin tones are cool. if gold, your tones are warm. if both, your tones are neutral. literally ten times easier than fucking about with color wheels.
undertones aren’t just limited to warm and cool! there’s also saturation (vivid vs. muted), lightness (light vs. dark) and secondary color (orange red vs. brownish red vs. purplish red vs. pinkish red, for example). so if you love a color that just doesn’t seem to flatter you, try some more variations of it! you’ll get there in the end!
finally, crucially, at no point does this trend ask you to consider what you like. whether or not you like to put a lot of effort into your style, your clothes should make your heart smile. don’t spend so much time worrying about being correct that you forget the end goal is to be happy.
death to arbitrary rules!!! nothing is forbidden!!!

Change your pillowcases weekly
Eat plenty of produce & drink lots of water
Prioritize sleep
Limit or eliminate alcohol, cigarettes, caffeine, and processed foods/sugary drinks
Keep your skin exfoliated/derma-planed
Take ample care of your natural hair:
Use high-quality shampoo/conditioner combos that suit your hair type & don't cause build-up
Hydrate with a scalp mask 1-4 times a month
Use cold or lukewarm water to wash your hair
Apply shampoo to the roots/hair covering your scalp and conditioner only on the "ponytail" section of your hair
Use a specialty hair towel after getting out of the shower
Always comb wet hair and brush 1-3 times a day when dry
Limit heat on your hair when possible & always use a heat protectant every time you do
Use non-elastic or silk hair ties
Get regular trims at least 3-4 times per year (get your hair layered if it's very thick)
Try to limit how much you dye or, especially bleach, your hair and do elaborate styles with tons of heat & harsh products
Dress in crisp neutral outfits that cater to your body shape:
Embrace minimalist basics (tees, tanks, blouses, sweaters, jeans, trousers, blazers, leather jackets, coats, etc.) in high-quality fabrics (Pima cotton, Merino wool, Tencel, mulberry silk, etc.)
Choose options in black, white, grey, charcoal beige, navy, burgundy, or cream depending on your skin tone and preferences
Invest in a collection of sleek footwear options (black boots, loafers, black pumps, white sneakers, etc.) in minimalist, timeless styles that suit the color palette, hemlines & proportions of your go-to outfits
Ensure your shoes and accessories feel proportional to the weight/silhouette of your outfit, color-coordinate with the rest of your look, and have streamlined hardware from head-to-toe (all silver, all gold, or one piece that mixes silver/gold and another gold & silver piece each to balance out the color palette)
Keep all of your clothes steam and lint-rolled, so they look crisp & fresh all-day
Befriend your tailor to take in or let out clothes as needed when purchased off the rack
Choose clothes/styles that flatter your body shape and proportions
Utilize belts and bra tape to adjust the waist, keep shirts tucked in, and keep straps from falling down or create an impromptu cuff/hem on your pants
When in doubt, select a neutral head-to-toe monochrome outfit
If on a budget, consider choosing black, grey, camel beige items to hide fabric imperfections that could cheapen your look
Choose your accessories wisely:
Select sleek, simple neutral (& almost exclusively) monochrome shoes made with smooth (recycled/vegan) leather with
Pair almost any outfit with a shoe featuring a slight platform, block heel, kitten heel, and/or a sharply pointed toe to elongate your silhouette
Complement your outfit with structured, pared-back handbags with no logos (Focus on quality and construction, not the brand name) in a neutral shade and timeless silhouette
For jewelry, choose at most one statement piece and all others should be focused on different areas of the body (e.g. don't mix statement earrings with layered/bold necklaces or stacked rings * bracelets). When in doubt, choose simple diamond chains or earrings, sleek bangles or chainlink necklaces & bracelets, simple pendant necklaces, and minimalist rings in hardware that all go together
Embrace feature-enhancing makeup:
Cover up any dark circles, blemishes, or hyperpigmentation with a color-matched concealer
Lightly contour with a bronzer that complements your skin tone
Fill in your brows for a naturally full look (or get them professionally tinted)
Apply a light wash of rose, coral, or mauve blush
Use black mascara with a little bit of eyeliner and/or a subtle wash of brown eyeshadow on the lids
Apply a "your lips but better" nude shade or "just kissed' berry lipstick or pigmented lip balm for a subtle wash of color
Keep your nails clean, filed, and simple:
Maintain cut, cleaned, and filed short nails
Opt for a square or almond nail shape
Choose a timeless nail shade (pink, nude, red, beige, dark cherry, navy, dark purple, black) with no nail art
Hydrate your hands and scrub under your nails daily
Regarding your signature scent(s):
Ensure your body wash/lotion and perfume scents don't clash
Test perfumes for a trial day to ensure they smell divine with your unique pheromones
Choose a fragrance appropriate for the seasonal/occasion
Apply a dab on each wrist and on your neck/behind the ears. If the scent doesn't project well on you, try applying these small dabs on the cuffs and shoulders of your jacket/walk into it to get it on your hair (if it would stain your clothes)
Don't layer more than one heady perfume at a time or scents that don't have complementary and/or shared notes
Follow your dental & bodily hygiene routines religiously:
Floss every day (after each meal if possible)
Brush your teeth with an electric toothbrush twice a day
Have mints on hand if you're a garlic, spice, or coffee lover
Keep your lips & hands well-moisturized and protected with SPF
Shower your body daily and be extra diligent in scrubbing your privates, everything behind, and under your arms
Don't use very hot water in the shower (it burns/dries out your skin)
Exfoliate 2-3 times a week with a sugar scrub
Moisturize daily or anytime you get out of the shower
Apply SPF on any exposed sun (especially in the summer or when the UV index is high in your area)

What is the proper length I should hem my pants?
Tumblr media
Short answer:
Somewhere in between a full break and no break. I personally ask for a quarter break because I like the clean look, and it adds some height to my silhouette.
———
Negative break and no break have been popular in the last 10 years, but in my opinion, they have made their way out of fashion. On the flip side, allowing your shoes to be swallowed in billowy, full break trousers is a master level style swerve best left for fashion experts looking to make a statement.
There’s no surprise to those that have followed me for a long time that I land somewhere in the middle. Half break or quarter break hemmed pants provide a clean silhouette and will add some height to the overall look.
Proper cloth has some more detailed information on what to ask for or look for at the tailor when getting your pants hemmed here:
