If there's one thing me and Trip had in common, it's that we hated that Curtis kid. But if we're being honest, I didn't always hate him. Back in the day, Ponyboy and I were close, more like brothers than me and Trip. We’d race through the streets, pushing each other to be faster, better.

But then things changed, and it wasn't just about running anymore. See, I’m a Soc, and Ponyboy’s a Greaser. Our social classes started getting in the way. People around us kept reminding us of where we stood, and the gap between us kept growing.

It wasn’t long before the friendly competition turned into something uglier. I started shoulder-checking him during races, making sure he knew his place. And Sergei was always ready to help me. I'd give him the nod, and he'd kick dirt at Ponyboy whenever he ran by.

It wasn’t just about winning anymore; it was about making sure Ponyboy knew he couldn't rise above his class. Every race became a battle of pride, and I was determined to come out on top, no matter what it took.

One day, after a particularly rough race, I saw Ponyboy sitting alone on the bleachers, his head in his hands. For a moment, I felt a pang of guilt, but I quickly squashed it down. I don't care for some low-life grease. We used to be friends, and now we were just enemies divided by the train track of social class.

Yet, I walked over, hesitating for a second before sitting down next to him. "Hey, Curtis," I said, trying to sound casual.

He looked up, surprise flashing in his eyes before they hardened. "What do you want, Melvin?" he asked, his voice cold.

“Listen-” I began, before I stopped myself.

As I sat next to Ponyboy, I could feel the weight of our rivalry hanging in the air. He looked at me, his eyes filled with a mix of anger and hurt. "You think we can just forget everything? Just like that?"

I shrugged, trying to play it cool, but inside, I was feeling the pressure. "I don’t know, man. It just feels like we’re wasting our energy fighting each other instead of doing something about the real problems."

He scoffed, crossing his arms. "You think I want to be friends with a Soc? You guys don’t get it. You don’t understand what it’s like for us." The anger in his voice made my heart race. I wanted to reach out, to bridge that gap, but I knew it was too late. The line had been drawn, and there was no erasing it.

"Fine," I said, standing up. "You want to keep hating me? Go ahead. But don’t expect me to sit around and take it."

With that, I turned and walked away, leaving Ponyboy staring after me, our friendship shattered like glass.

Sometimes, it felt like the world was determined to keep us apart, and no matter how hard we tried, we were stuck in our roles. The rivalry would continue, and neither of us was ready to let go. The tension hung heavy in the air, and I knew deep down that this wasn't over.

It's never over.

REPO MAN 1984 Sci-fi/Comedy Repo man is a punk rock sci-fi/black comedy starring Emilio Estevez as Otto, White suburban punk Rocker who has had enough of his boring day job as a stocking clerk at a local grocery store. After telling his boss to fuck off, and walking out, he ends up running a crossed Bud, played by Harry Dean Stanton, who cons him into a repossession job with a sob story about his pregnant wife. When they both reach the repossession agency, the agency offers Otto a job working for them, which eventually leads to a cross city chase for a $20,000 payout on a Chevy Malibu which may be linked to extra terrestrial activity. With a soundtrack featuring punk rock Mainstays such as, Black Flag, The Circle Jerks, Iggy Pop, and Suicidal Tendencies, “Repo Man” I had one of my favorite 80s soundtracks as well as being one of Emilio Estevez’s better films. The film touched on suburban punk rock culture, cultish religious zealotry, and fears of nuclear war, all wrapped up in a pretty little dark comedy package. I’ve seen just about everything in movies, from a cyborg woman firing bullets by banging on her chest to a scene that spliced Night of the Living Dead and It’s a Wonderful Life together. When I view the likes of Boondock Saints, I might not like it but I understand the appeal. When it comes to 1988's Young Guns, I don’t get it. How did audiences manage to have a good time with this dreary, boring, predictable film?

After cattle rancher John Tunstall (Terence Stamp) is murdered by his rival, Lawrence Murphy (Jack Palance), the boys under his employment are determined to get revenge. With the help of their lawyer friend Alexander McSween (Terry O’Quinn), Billy “The Kid” Bonney (Emilio Estevez), “Doc” Scurlock (Kiefer Sutherland), Jose Chavez y Chavez (Lou Diamond Phillips), “Dick” Brewer (Charlie Sheen), “Dirty Steve” Stephens (Dermot Mulroney), and Charlie Bowdre (Casey Siemaszko) are deputized. But when Billy takes his revenge too far, they become outlaws.

This movie has no sense of fun. The film begins with a murder. That’s fine. These “Young Guns” are going to band together to get revenge. You know what means: action, camaraderie! Banding together to take down the bad guys! But that's where you'd be wrong. there’s no friendship between these outlaws. When things get bad, we don't understand why our protagonists stick together. Billy isn’t charismatic. He’s just a psychopath with an over-inflated head. The rest aren’t given real personalities; merely quirks. When there’s a shootout, either you a) don’t care about who is getting hit b) wonder how this could possibly serve justice or any kind of agenda, c) wonder why these suicidal clashes are still going on, or d) all of the above.

I know it’s a western and that Billy the Kid is known for killing people, but compare the film to say… The Adventures of Robin Hood. This is a brown and grey, joyless, humorless (save for one useless scene involving peyote), story with unmemorable characters, no romance, and no sense of adventure. You look at these people on their horses and all you can say is “no thanks”.

The keywords are “but I don’t care because…”. There are shootouts and gunfights, but I don’t care because the characters are not likable, memorable or interesting. I should be excited by this piece of history told by an attractive cast, but I don’t care because there’s no sense of grandeur, or wonder. The plot is predictable, the music is wildly inappropriate, the editing makes it all look like scrambled eggs. Young Guns is a complete waste. (On DVD, April 16, 2016)
