Headcanon(s) time!
In theory, the name Jodie sounds a lot like the word "Jedi." But before Eric found out she was a lesbian, Eric had a massive crush on Jodie Foster in his early teens. So the name is firmly off limits.
Jackie: How did you not know she was a lesbian? She dresses like a guy, way more than Donna does!
Eric: Shut up!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
He also thinks Geena Davis is hot, mostly because she looks so much like Donna. Fez thinks Marla Hooch is hot.

FAV GOTH CHARACTERS
For my fifth post I  want to share some of my favourite gothic characters in the media (shows, comics, movies, etc).
For the first character in this list I wanted to touch on one of my favourite characters if not one of my fav gothic films of all time. The Crow is an amazing film and of course, so is the main character: Eric Draven. As you can see from the picture below in his iconic outfit; the coat, the latex pants, the belts, the wire. Not to forget his makeup, the white base and the edgy black lips and eyes further correlating to gothic aesthetics. Everything is put together absolutely perfectly to fit the overarching darker aesthetics of the film itself and also his character. For a brief explanation of his character, he’s driven by a primary form of revenge, hoping to avenge someone close to him who perished. He gets help from a ‘crow’ obviously that’s where the title comes from lol. Other than his exterior appearance, Eric Draven shows a ton of other gothic elements as a character, the darker drive, the darker emotions and the darker reasonings that all fit seamlessly into the category of goth-ness within the media itself!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
For the second character in this list I wanted to touch on a character a lot of people probably know of, Marla Singer from Fight Club. A great character with tons of flaws, she definitely stands out in a film about two (one) men lol. Now, many people have varying opinions on whether or not she’s goth. But I chose to include her in this list because she definitely presents a tone of gothic elements within both her aesthetic and her outlook on life. As seen below she wears all black, has ratty hair and wears black centred makeup. All making up a great aesthetic that definitely plays into a certain gothic element. Her personality is also super telling, where she has again, like Eric Draven more darker views/aesthetics on certain topics. And although being goth does not mean that these views are absolute. Within media a lot of the time these sorts of characters are presented more inclined to darker viewpoints because of their gothic disposition as not only a plot point but as an aesthetic.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Thirdly, Lisbeth Salander, again probably one of my favourite characters in all of media but also one of my favourite more gothic inclined characters. Being introduced from the book ‘The girl with the dragon tattoo’, I’m going to be more so pulling elements from her on screen performance in the movie version starring Rooney Mara. As shown below, you can see that her hair, piercings and overall aesthetic definitely play into, again, that gothic vibe. Not only do her looks represent that gothic aesthetic but also her job (lol) and style of life. I should also mention that like The Crow, The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo has a tone of different goth-industrial songs, which totally pushes the gothic agenda/vibe that they’re going for!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Fourthly I want to bring up an iconic comic and recently show character. Morpheus or more commonly known as The Sandman. A character directly from the mind of Neil Gaiman and others. To begin, from his comic appearance it’s obvious that he’s goth. From his hair and dark clothes his aesthetic is reminiscent of Robert Smith’s looks from the 80s. Not only that but this iteration of the Greek god Morpheus, God of Dreams is much darker with a larger emphasis on the, again, goth aesthetic lol. His on screen appearance is also just as goth, with the show including tones of gothic undertones, his voice, his appearance (of course). And the overall setting that he himself is placed in. (On a separate note, I recommend watching the show as it’s pretty short and on Netflix).
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Lastly, I want to spiel about a gothic character very dear to my heart in relation to the source material she comes from lol. Saki Hanajima is a goth character from the animanga Fruits Basket. Probably my favourite manga of all time lol. In regards to Saki, she herself dresses in total black at all times, never once is she seen wearing any other colour (other than her mandatory school uniform). This fact plays heavily into her goth/edgy vibe. She also wears a ton of clothes that take direct inspiration from victorian/romantic era goths. Not to forget, one of the gimmicks she has is she’s able to send telepathic waves/vibes to others, primarily negative. This ability also plays heavily into her aesthetic as a goth character. (As something super popular within goth media is ghosts, communication with them, etc.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Thanks for reading my blog, down below are some honourable mentions that appeal to that certain goth aesthetic but because this post is already to long I won’t talk about them.
Re-L (Ergo Proxy) , Uta (Tokyo Ghoul), Charles-Henri Sanson (Innocent)

muse changes.
// per this post. i'll be adding:
-fox mulder (x-files) -- i'm excited! haven't played him in YEARS but it's awesome he came up. cause that's one of the first canon characters i ever played!
-will graham (hannibal/silence of the lambs) -- i'll play both integrated into hugh dancy's faceclaim. throw crossovers or whatever at him. i love this muse and it's awesome he can come back over here! and rather amazing he showed up, too! yay!
-wanda maximoff (mcu) -- new muse to me. but eff it. why not?
-sirius black -- new muse, but not new fandom. i just always played james or remus in the marauders era. or lucius. but hey. this'll be fun! marauders era and up welcome! includes neato come back storyline cause that's always a thing.
bonus halloween muses: may become permanent if they kick off!
-eric draven -- the crow -ellison oswalt -- sinister and! -daniel "danny" torrance -- the shining and doctor sleep
removing:
-marla singer and baby firefly

Shatner got so much shit for this afterward (I understand why). But thirty-two years later (while the insult remains), the fact this sketch points out stays relevant: big fans of a fictional TV show are likely to be significantly more invested in and knowledgeable about about the show's details than the actors who were in that show. Actors move on. Fans hold on.
But plenty of fans have a rich life outside of fandom. Fandom is just a part; it can be an important part, but it's not the whole.
I've written more essays and metas about That '70s Show the last fourteen years than I'm willing to count. 😅
I've also had conversations with friends about T7S and fandoms in general that opened my mind to different interpretations of the show and taught me how characters can maintain their canon, core personalities, their canon flaws and goals, even when one vital aspect of their canon depiction is changed.
Imagining possibilities is far more fun than adhering to limitations. Took me a while to learn that lesson (over a decade ago).
One example is that the idea of Jackie and Eric being together romantically used to sicken me. It's totally against canon. While I never had a problem with other people shipping them (ship and let ship), I couldn't stomach J/E. Then I read the wonderfully written J/E stories of Marla's Lost, and the disgust faded. I even wrote my own J/E fic to challenge myself and enjoyed it. I also considered writing a sequel (for five minutes).
Yes, the Jackie/Eric pairing is not canonical in any way, but so what? With some tweaks to their individual characterizations, the pair makes for an intriguing exploration of imagination.
Meanwhile, Jackie and Fez are canon (for one episode) romantically (I don't count season 8), and I find nothing interesting in that pairing except friendship.
I love that T7S fans explore different possibilities for the characters' relationships, sexual orientation, gender identity, careers, what-have-you. As long as the characters remain recognizably themselves with these non-canon elements added (and not strangers who happen to share the name of the T7S characters -- looking at you, season 8), these explorations can be both entertaining and healing.
No one person in a fandom is The Authority. I may have immense knowledge of T7S inside and out, but it doesn't change that I'm part of the fandom. My interpretations are just that: mine. In fandom, as in life, having friends with differing opinions is important. Gatekeeping is abhorrent. End of partial rhyme.
Ultimately, though, I keep in mind this bit of wisdom from the Mystery Science Theater 3000 theme song:
If you're wondering how he eats and breathes and other science facts, then repeat to yourself, "It's just a show; I should really just relax."

sunburn | you drive me crazy!
It was just one of those things.
Belinda was an usher at Eric and Rebecca’s wedding. She stood at the back of the room with Sam, Alex, Marla, and Zelda, and they watched the two of them together there at the altar. The sole female usher in the entire wedding with that white shirt and the black vest, and as far as anyone knew, she had to be the one who had to keep the entire thing together given the other ushers all congregated on either side of the room like rows of penguins.
It was right then she remembered that she had also been given the duty of checking both Eric and Rebecca’s wardrobes prior to the ceremony, and she never had done such a thing.
Maybe it was fate, or maybe it was intentional, but as she watched Rebecca stand there at the altar with her bouquet in hand and that long white train right behind her as if she was at some fashion show somewhere and not a wedding for the New Millennium, Belinda counted down the seconds. Sam said something to Marla, and Belinda pursed her lips as she knew that things were about to come unraveled soon enough.
Eric, who wore that tuxedo tight at his thick waist and his hips, looked ready to pass out.
Something had to give and it was him.
“I’m sorry, I can’t,” he confessed with a shake of his head, and he unfastened his belt. Belinda had a feeling he was going to let it hang there, especially since he was going to change his clothes anyway, but that slight unfastening was enough for someone up front to faint. Everyone gasped, including Rebecca. Eric fixed on the front row, completely oblivious to the fact that he had undone his pants; Belinda realized that the button had come undone at some point. She swallowed as Eric dropped his trousers and exposed himself to Rebecca, who gasped again.
Alex whispered something to Zelda, who then giggled.
Marla asked something to Belinda, but she could hardly pay attention especially when Eric’s face was as red as a tomato at that point. Lucky for him and Rebecca, they were able to catch themselves and proceed with business as usual.
No way anyone could accuse her of surreptitiously going into the dressing rooms and messing with their wedding clothes, but Belinda couldn’t stop thinking about it, however. If anything, the whole thing made her chuckle, especially when she thought about how much she liked Eric and saw him as the one that got away.
She sat there at the bridal party table next to him while Rebecca went out and talked to everyone in the crowd. Eric shook his head and ran his fingers through his black hair.
“How are you feeling?” she asked him.
“I am so humiliated,” he confessed with a shake of his head, and then he chuckled at himself. “Bug god damn—it was kind of funny to think that I had been out there with my pants open like that.” She snickered at that.
“I mean, look at it this way,” Belinda assured him. “It’s a funny story to tell later on down the line.”
“Right? And I’m glad that Rebecca was the only one who actually saw me below the belt, too: Mr. Preacher was totally preoccupied with my cousin.”
“Do you think that she could have recovered from it?” Belinda asked him as she sipped on her coffee.
“Who, Rebecca?”
“Yeah.”
“I don’t really know, to be honest,” he confessed, and then he stopped dead in his tracks and squinted his eyes at her. “Why?”
“Just curious,” she said with a shrug, and she could see the twinkle in those big brown eyes. A married man or not, the one who got away or not, she knew that she had woken something inside of that boy and she was going to drive him up the wall at some point.

eric and jackie: 23, 33, 34
23. What are the defining characteristics of their relationship?
i think they make up for each other's weaknesses, while also complimenting each other's strengths. (some of this is headcanon backed up by stuff in the show, and some is just me making things up for landslide lol.)
- ex: jackie is good at working on cars, is handy at fixing things around the house, and kills the bugs eric is too scared to kill. eric is good at cooking and housework (inside stuff like dishes, sweeping, stuff like that). they both do laundry, they're both good at decorating, and they call people the other doesn't want to talk to.
(the reason i say eric is good at cooking and housework is bc 1. kitty would not allow her children to be bad at cooking. it would be like sacrilege to her. 2. i feel like she would at least make sure they knew how to do laundry and stuff bc both parents work. plus i feel like he has a particular hatred of yard work bc of red always forcing him to do it. and i feel like red looked down on eric doing housework bc he'd consider it too feminine, which was a point of contention in their household.)
- i think one of the reasons they rag on each other so much (aside from jackie's selfishness) is that they see themselves in each other and they don't like what they see. they also envy each other. let me explain:
a) eric is close to the poverty line. jackie is rich (or her father is anyway). eric envies her wealth and the doors it opens for her. jackie envies eric for his seemingly close knit family, his position as the center of the gang, and his longterm friendship/social standing in the gang (jackie being the only other girl in the gang besides donna, who also sort of suffers her own girl torments despite being part of the group.)
b) i think jackie ribs eric so bad bc she thinks she wants a big, tough masculine guy (hyde, kelso), because that's what she's socialized to want, but that's not really true. because every time jackie gets with a guy, she tries to change them to be more feminine (ex: her makeover of kelso with makeup and a dress, her makeover of hyde's room, or if they are (fez, eric) she mocks them for it because she's insecure about her own femininity and the fact she likes that about them.
i can't remember what episode it is, but there's a scene where donna asks jackie what she wants in a man and i can't remember *exactly* what she says but it was something like
1. buys her presents
2. compliments her
3. goes shoe shopping with her
and i can't remember the rest. but her list basically describes eric. which is why i think donna looks so surprised during that scene. because she sees it but jackie doesn't.
c) i think eric sometimes feels outside of the group because he's closeted, and not very masculine. things the gang ribs him about A Lot. plus being a nerd. and i think it's one of the reasons why he 'hates' jackie, is because she's another person trying desperately to fit in who doesn't really. it's sort of like tyler going after marla in fight club for being another faker in the groups he frequents. she disrupts everything. her very existence messes up the status quo. but she's sort of free in her untetheredness.
- they're also bisexual. this isn't canon. it should be though.
33. How do they flirt? Who’s the worse flirt?
jackie tries to go the coy route at first because that's how she thinks it's supposed to go, and eric Doesn't Get It. so she goes fuck it and goes the bold route, and at first eric is freaked out because it's jackie and they have a complicated friendship, but then once he gets used to the idea he's into it.
eric is the worse flirt because he tries to be joe cool about it and jackie thinks it's lame. then he tries to just be sincere instead, and while he's still uncool, jackie likes him anyway.
34. Do they have any inside jokes?
i don't know if they do or not. i feel like they have inside jokes about silly stuff the gang has done over the years.

(my) Mag a Week: Famous  Last Words
Hello there!
I am participating in the "a mag a day" idea by @a-mag-a-day which is BRILLIANT and I decided to do "statement a week", rolling dice with the characters and fears that were ftw that week in the episodes I have listened. This is week I am pretty late: I AM SO SORRY, REAL LIFE GOT IN THE WAY.
For today I rolled Archivist!Monster Pig (I KNOW I KNOW) and The Spiral (Eps. 99-105).
As usual, please do forgive my quick tipper and non-native speaker mistakes, Marla
Allons-y!
CW: major character death, unreality
Also on AO3!
Statement of Gerard Keay, regarding…his last minutes.
Audio recording by Hugh Bacon, on a personal interest.
Statement begins.
 I am dying.
No. I was dying. Now, I am dead.
The figure has been standing there for hours, though it had not arrived yet.
It is not the Grimm Reaper, for I have met those who believed themselves to be so and they would never be so annoyingly colourful. So insufferably beautiful to nobody’s eyes but mine.
I know It is not real because It certainly feels so, and it’s been quite a while since my brain had been able to make out anything real with accuracy. If I can see this, It is because It is not really there.
But It is. It says I have something of my father, which is a lie, but not for me, but for It. Or maybe It is a He. At least, when It speaks about Eric.
My brain is burning, the chemo had left my body pure skin and bone and even my tattoos are fading, some ink even dropping to the floor.
Or maybe not, maybe it is just my brain, who had had more seizures than I can account for in the last… in the last.
It makes everything go back to place, while nothing is where it should be. It wants only two things: make me one with It and make sure I remain not death.
Not completely, at least.
It only asks for one thing in exchange: to kill Gertrude Robinson. It is too afraid, too angry too, to properly do it.
I know this is false, I know it won’t happen, not in a million lifetimes, and yet will happen more than anything else ever had happened in my entire existence.
I could say “ No ”, but, then, It would just use the remains of Gerard for it.
If I say yes, whatever I become, It, He…He might be Gerry.
Sorry Gertrude, I am shaking its hand.
It is avoiding my hand.
It is piercing my hand.
It is not even touching my hand,
Goodbye and hello.
  Statement ends.
So, that is what happened to Gerard Keay…that is what that bizarre thing that started to stalk me is. No wonder It looked about to have an identity crisis every other second…
…uh, when I first gained conscience, one of my first thoughts was that having a functional brain in a human capacity was going to be grand.
It absolutely isn’t. Especially when a Victorian Demi-Immortal man finds out about your tiny little secret and decides that, maybe, you should be used as the burgers you were breed to be if you are not going to willing bend the knee to his machinations. At least, I got lucky and Sims is allowing me to stay at his place.
Yes, yes, before you say anything: I know he is with The Web, Basira, and his special friend is kind of a Lukas, but better this than be turned into someone’s sandwich.
I hope you remember to only listen to this in The Tunnels, for everybody’s shake.
End recording.

Major Storylines

Marriages and Relationships: John's romantic life was filled with drama and intrigue. His marriages to Dina Mergeron (Marla Adams), Jill Foster Abbott (Jess Walton), and Gloria Fisher (Judith Chapman) were pivotal storylines. Legal Troubles and Imprisonment: One of the most dramatic periods in John's life was his legal troubles, which led to his imprisonment. After accidentally killing Tom Fisher (Roscoe Born) in an attempt to protect his family, John was sentenced to prison. This storyline showcased Douglas's ability to convey vulnerability and strength, as John struggled with guilt and the consequences of his actions.
Health Issues and Death: In 2006, John Abbott's health began to decline, culminating in a stroke that led to his death. Chapter 1
It was December and the city was in full holiday swing. Kara’s best friend, Evalyn McCartney, had driven out to the Wassailfest in New Braunfels, with her husband Eric and his family. They had extended the invitation to Kara as well, and while Kara adored the McCartney’s, she had given the excuse that she wasn’t feeling all that well in order to get out of going. Instead, she’d said she would just go visit with Ryan, her other close friend, and honorary brother. In reality, she was looking forward to just hanging out and drinking margaritas, while catching up with a good friend she hadn’t seen in ages, due to the recent success of her business.
Edible Delectables, Kara’s bakery, had slowly been gaining in popularity since opening its doors the year before. A booming business was what she had been striving for, but the bakery had yet to earn enough revenue for extra help. The result was limited time outside of work for friends or anything else.
Kara was determined this weekend would be different, so of course it would be that when she finally got around to calling Ryan, it turned out to be his mother’s birthday. Ryan, ever the doting son, had already planned to take his mother to dinner. Marla Wittman was a widow and Ryan made every attempt he could to keep her from being lonely. He invited Kara along, and while it wouldn’t be the same as hanging out at Ryan’s apartment getting drunk and hearing about his latest conquests, it was bound to be better than polite conversations with the McCartney’s, or worse, staying home alone. We could always hang out after dinner, Kara thought, and accepted the invitation.
I’m fine with establishing backstory, what’s going on, why characters are doing what they’re doing…
But the problem is that this is literally page one. I don’t care about any of this, BECAUSE THE AUTHOR HAS BARELY TOLD US THE NAME OF THE MAIN CHARACTER.
Only now, just hours later, here she was in the bathroom of Andy’s Steakhouse, sweating and emptying her innards into the toilet of a public restroom…
[...]
Shuffling over to the sink, she washed her hands before she grabbed a paper towel, wet it, and wiped down her face. She looked into the mirror, and cringed at her reflection. Kara had never really considered herself to be stunning or beautiful, but she knew she wasn’t completely unattractive either. Her body was shapely and toned, and her auburn hair, while not all that exciting, was long, healthy and shiny.
The last time I vomited in a public toilet, the first thing I did was to go check out how shiny my hair was in the mirror.
SAID NOBODY. EVER.
…Kara’s cell phone began to ring out with Peanut Butter Jelly!, Kara’s ringtone for Eva.
Nothing quite like immediately dating your story.
Standing up straight he stretched his arms above his head and popped his neck and back as best he could before heading back into the pit.
Chapter 1 summary: As mentioned earlier, we open on this immense info dump, which never actually lets us get to know the characters before shoving us into the story. What you need to know is that the MC, Kara, is out with her friend Ryan and his mom for his mom’s birthday dinner. The food barely comes when Kara has to bolt to the bathroom to be physically ill. When she gets back, she finds that she can’t eat, and regrets how she rode over with them. Her friend’s mom eats really, REALLY slow, to the point of it being annoying.
Ryan drops her off at her car, but she doesn’t want to be alone. She tries calling another friend and her husband, Eva and Eric, but they aren’t answering. So instead, she goes over to Eric’s mom’s house, where she lies down for a little bit. When Eva finally calls her back, Kara says she thinks that she needs to go to the ER.
We then randomly jump over to the male lead, Jason, who is a paediatric doctor at the hospital. But tonight is busy, so he’s working the ER. And if you thought that the end of the chapter would be with Kara coming in, then you are clearly expecting something much better than what this book is shaping up to be.
Chapter 2
“Have you called Paul yet?” Evalyn asked, as they made their way inside the building. She dug in her purse for a hair band and quickly pulled her long strawberry blonde hair into a pony tail. Eric walked beside her, his arm around Kara’s midsection, trying to help ease the discomfort caused by walking. Paul was Kara’s father, her mother had passed away while Kara was in high school, and ever since her father had raised her alone He’d done a fine job and Kara had grown up happy, but he tended to overreact where Kara’s health and well-being were concerned.
The problem with this pulled-to-publish Twilight fanfic is that… When you’re reading the fanfic and the character says “Have you called Charlie?” every reader knows who that is. We don’t need to stop the narration to explain to the reader who Charlie is.
But it’s like the author has no idea how to write something other than pre-established characters. So what was an effortless, throw-away line in the fanfic turns into this bumbling mess that literally stops the narration so that it can explain Kara’s family dynamics to us.
EXCEPT THAT WE STILL DON’T CARE.
He'd been a senior and she a junior when they were in high school. He knew her, or rather knew of her, but they’d never actually spoken. She was quiet and kept to herself and a small group of close friends. He'd seen her in the library during lunch on more than one occasion. Jason spent a great deal of time in the library studying. His parents had moved from Seattle to Austin his senior year; he'd begged them to let him stay to finish school, but his parents wouldn't hear of it. They were a family and they were moving together, they insisted. They were convinced he'd make new friends and everything would be fine. They thought maybe he would let go of his determination to head back to Seattle for college, but they had underestimated just how determined Jason had been.
NOBODY FUCKING CARES. GET BACK TO THE GODDAMNED ER BUSINESS, JESUS FUCKING CHRIST.
Jason. Not Dr. Dietrich. Did she remember him, too?
Chapter 2 summary: Eva and Eric take Kara to the hospital, except every fucking thing is interrupted to explain some goddamned asinine thing every other paragraph. Not really, but it sure seemed like it at times. Kara gets checked in, but it’s busy, so she’s going to have to wait. She eventually tries to ask the intake nurse if there’s somewhere she can lie down, and another doctor says that there’s an empty gurney in the hall, and Kara can have it.
We switch over to Jason’s POV, and he randomly thinks he knows the name of Kara Baker when he’s handed her chart. We then bring the narration to yet another screeching halt so that we can explain that his family forced him to move his senior year of high school, and he ended up at the school with Kara. She was a year below him, and he would have 100% gone after her… if he hadn’t already promised himself to some random third party named Katie.
He then does an exam on Kara and thinks that she has appendicitis. But to be on the safe side, he wants to do a pelvic exam to rule out something like ovarian cysts. We’re then subjected to THAT exam as well. It’s like the author has no concept of skipping ahead. After he leaves the room, Kara suddenly remembers him from high school. Finally, Jason rules that she does have appendicitis, and that she should get into surgery as soon as possible.
