tell me about eric?
Eric is essentially what one could call the main antagonist of SitD.
He's five years or so younger than Daniel chronologically (aka: taking the whole vampirism thing into account), and was one of the members of the small group Amalthea kept at that time (Consisting of, oldest to newest: Lila, Carter, Daniel, and Eric). Made from Carter's blood, and forced to kill by Daniel--per Amalthea's orders (and we don't go against those here, because it's early days and nobody wants to be murdered by the horror in carved marble that is Amalthea).
Anyways. He took a little too well to the whole indiscriminate murder thing and went a step more towards Amalthea in the vein of Gleeful Enjoyment of if not Actual Arousal from Cruelty.
He's the only one aside from Daniel who survives Amalthea's destruction of their little group. And he did that by staying obedient and bloodthirsty while Daniel ran as far the fuck away from that as he could.
Eric likes to pop in sometimes.
See how Daniel is doing (aka: torment him with his past for fun and profit)
The first time he did this, Madeleine stabbed him with one of her less loved swords, and left him chained up in a basement until Amalthea found him. By then, Daniel was long gone.
The second time, he lies to Jesse in an attempt to befriend Daniel's new family, and when Daniel finds him at the house, threatens to kill Eric, can't go through with it, aaaand Moira shoots him a handful of times before he finally gets the fuck out.
Nobody sees Eric the third time he comes back, aside from Alex. Who gets coerced into drinking vampire blood, and that's how they end up stuck halfway between human and dead.
And the last time.
Well.
He shows up a couple months later, irritated that Alex is still half-human, and abducts them. He drops them in the center of a night club and after making sure nobody can get out, promptly starts a massacre in an attempt to break Alex and get them to kill. It doesn't work, the rest of the vamp!house eventually show up to take Alex home, Daniel still can't make himself kill Eric even now-- but allows Jesse and Moira to do it.
They tear his head off and leave him to burn with the rest of the corpses he created that night.
Anyways.
That's Eric.
He's the Worst.

Rating books I read this year:
“Red, White, and Royal Blue” by Casey McQuiston. 8/10, I love my dumb American boy with a literal Prince Charming. Don’t care about anything I love it so much I’ve listened to the audiobook 5 times this year.
“Iron Widow” by Xiran Jay Zhao. 10/10. All of this. Perfection. This might as well be a XJZ fan account. Yas Empress let’s destroy the patriarchy 💖
“A Touch of Darkness” by Scarlett St. Clair. 5/10, so many tropes but it’s aight. Decent smut but nothing to write home about. I’m just a sucker for enemies to lovers.
“A Touch of Ruin” by Scarlett St. Clair. 1/10. I hated Persephone and everything was just so… ugh. Bad. Went from questionable and tortured love interest to “I can’t justify this fucking douchebag.” Didn’t finish because it made me so mad.
“She Drives Me Crazy” by Kelly Quindlen. 7/10, cute sapphic YA. Tropes are tropes for a reason. Cute as hell tho.
“Neon Gods” by Katee Robert. 9/10. Tropes are tropes for a reason, love this take on Hades/Persephone. Preferred the smut here to St. Clair’s work, way preferred Persephone’s characterization here (I became a Persephone connoisseur in 2022 I guess.)
“You Go Your Own Way” by Eric Smith. 6/10 Enemies to lovers trope and a dorky main character I kinda identified with. Ending felt rushed but it’s alright. Love the audiobook narration. Very quick read so it’s great for commutes.
“Today, Tonight, Tomorrow” by Rachel Lynn Solomon. 8/10. Literally EVERY trope (well, feels like it) and very pointed “meet cute AU” moments that felt very self aware. Props for well done incidental Jewish rep that bucks stereotypes and doesn’t involve Chanukah.
“The Golem and the Jinni” by Helene Wecker. 10/10. Might be the best book I read this year. A 20 hour audiobook and I listened to it twice in a workweek. It was so good. SO good. Multiple rounded characters. Could be a bit convoluted and confusing toward the end if you weren’t paying attention, but I was so invested. I give this audiobook to people who want to get back into fantasy novels.
“They Went Left” by Monica Hesse. 6/10. Heavy. Good, made me cry, wish a romance hadn’t happened. I disagree with my library insisting this is YA, felt more adult than the “general audience” of “The Golem and the Jinni.” The twist destroyed me. I was a broken person for like 10 minutes working in a laboratory trying not to cry into a beaker. 9 hours but heavy enough to last a while. Would be a good emotional rollercoaster for a long train or plane ride.
“Sweet Ruin” by Kresley Cole. 7/10. It isn’t good, per se, it just gets the rocks off. Decent enough and fun to have a desirable protagonist with an accent like mine.
“The Way of Kings” by Brandon Sanderson. 4/10. I just can’t get into Sanderson. Hot take, I know. Did not finish.
“Gideon the Ninth” by Tamsyn Muir. 10/10, love my funky space lesbians. I recommend this book all the time when someone wants a cheeky protag. The audiobook is awesome. I was SO invested in this and I can’t believe I waited so long to read it.
“The Bone Clocks” by David Mitchell. 6/10. Very well written, I was just struggling to stay engaged with it while working. Some of the lulls made my brain check out and I would miss critical exposition. That said, very complex, great if you want to read waaaaaaay too into a book.
“A Hunger Like No Other” by Kresley Cole. 6/10. Once again, it doesn’t have to be good. It just has to be.
“The Lies of Locke Lamora” by Scott Lynch. 2/10. I hated this fucking book. Hot take in my friend group, especially since I read Rothfuss and Hearne. But I just hated it. I couldn’t get my teeth into it and couldn’t care about the characters. Did not finish.
“No Other Love” by Harper Bliss. 6/10, cute and sweet. Love a short sapphic read. Unremarkable but good.
“The Chosen” by Chaim Potok. 10/10, one of my favorite authors. He just don’t miss. Heavy at points but I love it.
I probably missed some but here we are. Ones I could remember off top.

Willow Creek Hospital
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Got distracted/procrastinated and spent 2 days on this whilst trying to figure out who to assign to each NPC role oops.[only 17/26 are canonically in the medical field, the others were unemployed]
Dr Nyssa Landry postponed her retirement for the third time after her spoiled grandchildren began squabbling over inheritance money. Unfortunately it was her that spoiled them; after her son died 20 years ago, she had no time to raise them and gave them everything they wanted.
The two people you don't want to come across in an empty corridor in the middle of the night:
Elvira Slayer, the worst phlebotomist the hospital has ever seen (she keeps losing the blood samples), but she can always find a vein.
Meanwhile, Rebecca Goth made death her personality in kindergarten, if you listen closely you can hear her whispering to the corpses. Luckily the morgue is far away from her mother-in-law.
Dr Art Giordano is a simple guy, he like Brains, he likes fine dining, and he likes going home to his family in Tartosa. The interns might whisper that he is dreamy, but he would never cheat on his wife.
Dr Geoffrey Landgraab was a skilled doctor 30 years ago, until he went missing. He has since resurfaced, barely aging a day, much to the confusion of Jamie who was in his intern class. Now he focuses on Plastics (which he previously called frivolous). Its clear his wife has been under his knife, and there's rumors he does a bit of Nip/Tuck on the side for cash-paying customers.
Dr Jamie Jolina never let go of her fast-paced, partygirl lifestyle, but it has let go of her. She just can't get over how young Geoffrey still looks, but no matter how much she begs, all he will give her is botox, and not his secret. At least she has her surgical awards to remind her of her brilliance.
Dr Maximilian Moore is secretly glad his desk is piling up with paperwork... he's a closet hypochondriac, and that recent plague has sent his anxiety sky-rocketing. But he likes scheduling, and occasionally saving the day when his residents mess up, as long as he doesn't have to interact with the patients.
Dr Morgana Goth still hasn't let go of her 30 year old resentment towards Jamie, who still won't stay away from her husband. But oh well, at least her Mentor Dr Landry, who took a chance on her all that time ago, and trained her in OB, sees her for who she truly is.
Dr Tango Caliente tried to retire already, but he can't afford the alimony cheques to his ex-wife without a reliable income. He is content to let his resident Dr Derito carry out all of his surgeries, while he watches from the sidelines. He's keeping an eye on Dr Beaker too, there's rumors that she is a sadist, and gets off on other people's pain, he just hasn't caught her doing anything inappropriate yet. (maybe the rumors are just jealousy.) [as for that Don, he regrets ever introducing him to his nieces]
The Residents: Dillin Derito / Eric Lewis/ Scrubs DeReve/ Don Lothario/ Circe Beaker
The Interns: Fiona Whitfield / Désirée St. Feu / Kan Fetter / Rose Lavender / Dylan Sigworth
The Nurses: Jenny Smith/ Ruby Ann Hatfield

When I pick up the phone and actress Rebecca Ferguson greets me with a cheery “hello,” she sounds completely at ease. She doesn’t sound at all like a woman who’s been flying across the world to promote her new blockbuster film, Dune: Part Two, all the while spending six days a week shooting the second season of her critically-acclaimed Apple TV+ dystopian drama, Silo. Of course, I realize not too long into our conversation that this is in part because Ferguson is quite amiable. I also learn that there's also a small part of her that chooses to embrace the chaos.
While discussing her look for the final Dune: Part Two premiere in New York, she recounts the story of when she arrived in the Big Apple, much of the outfit was thrown together last minute. While talking about her hair (courtesy of hairstylist Blake Eric) Ferguson says, “We were running late, so he was running after me with the scissors whilst clapping and chopping into it. I love all of the chaos.”
It’s hard to imagine this comically haphazard image when you take a look at the killer result. For the red carpet, Ferguson and her stylist, Tom Eerebout, chose a gothic ensemble from Olivier Theyskens that featured a black bodysuit layered under a sheer cape gown with alternating panels of frilly lace and fishnets. Ferguson accessorized with a pair of glossy black thigh-high boots and stacks of dog chains, which her husband, Rory St. Clair Gainer, actually picked up at a local pet store. Meanwhile, her ombré locks, which extended all the way to her hips, added a dramatic final touch, as did her bright red lip and dark eye makeup. The ensemble screamed ’80s dark glamour, and Ferguson herself jokingly referred to it as “Madonna on crack.”
The Dune star was full of jokes during our chat, which helped paint a clearer picture as to how such a playful look came together. “I'm more Gothic. I'm edgy. I'm Scandi,” she says. “I'm not fluffy and, you know, bride-like. That’s just not me.”
The Dune: Part Two press tour has been full of bold showings, from Zendaya’s Stéphane Rolland dress with the pointed-pronged cutout to Florence Pugh’s side boob moment in her backless Valentino gown. However, none of the looks have been quite like this, and you can sense how free Ferguson felt in the ensemble.
“I think for me it was quite nice at the end here to be able to just break loose and think, No, f*ck it,” Ferguson says. “I'm going to go completely rogue and communicate something completely different. You know, [having the] freedom and the platform to do so.”
The stars of Dune: Part Two have certainly been breaking free with their red carpet choices, and it’s been a sight to behold. Ferguson notes that she’s surrounded by fashion showstoppers who shine just as bright even when they’re on their own. “You know, [you] can take everyone individually out, and they would [still] absolutely rocket,” she says.
But Ferguson, who plays Lady Jessica in the Dune series, certainly stands out on her own as well—and the New York premiere look was one of her most personal outfits yet. It’s clear that spur of the moment decisions can sometimes turn out for the best. “We literally just have fun, and sometimes you mess it up,” she tells me. “You know, everything isn't perfect.”
When I tell her that I did in fact love the look, she says that she's happy to hear it. But she adds, “It doesn't really matter as well because some people will like it. Some people won't like it. Some people will think it looks absolutely crazy and masquerades...but that's what's fun. The times that I kind of didn't really see myself because I was a little bit of a beige hideaway. That's not interesting. We're selling a movie...We're making fun for people to talk about and gossip about and hate and love. And, you know, that's what fashion is.”

Heist, Heist Baby
Tumblr media
Leave it to Hyacinth flipping Bridgerton to be the sibling who finds herself an intergenerational mystery and more or less strong arms her love interest into a low-key jewel heist. Let's talk It's in His Kiss.
CONTENT WARNING: Brief discussion of sexual assault. Take care of you first, and please feel free to skip this post if you need or want to. We will happily catch you next time!
This is now the fifth Bridgerton book I've read, and I actually have to say that while it's not my favorite of the series, it was a nice change of pace. Hyacinth and Gareth feel like they spend more time together as a couple really getting to know one another, which honestly was not really the vibe of previous couples. Anthony was too wrapped up in waiting to die, Benedict was too busy being shitty Prince Eric and generally devaluing all women everywhere, and Francesca and Colin were working through dead spouse trauma and a variation on professional jealousy, respectively. Hyacinth and Gareth just like each other, and Gareth was refreshingly brief in his daddy issues in favor of seducing Hyacinth and realizing that whoops, he actually meant it. So frankly, Gareth and Hyacinth feel more like they are actually good friends. And as a Polin Stan, that is a little heartbreaking to say, since Polin was supposed to be the friends to lovers storyline and as far as the books go, I actually think Hyacinth and Gareth feel more friends to lovers. Polin is more she fell first, he fell harder, which is a great trope but it's not really friends to lovers.
I swear I'm not going to be low-key disappointed about Polin for this whole post though, because in addition to Hyacinth being genuinely good friends with Gareth, we get her friendship with Lady Danbury. And THAT friendship is an absolute delight, although Jukia Quinn might be flying just a TAD close to the sun by spoofing bad romance books that we read to mock in her series of borderline read-to-mock romance books. This is very akin to my feelings about Penelope getting weak-kneed over Colin's writing talent because he described the temperature of the Agean Sea as half-hour old bathwater. Like, I get what you were going for emotionally, but on a very realistic level, you fell flat on your face and your skirt rode all the way up so you flashed your panties at people by accident, and not in a kinky way. Not that that makes Hyacinth and Lady D's dynamics any less wonderful, it's just one of those "my eyebrows were raised while I was smiling" things. We cannot help but love Lady Danbury.
I also just want to call out the objectively hilarious scene where Gareth goes to ask Anthony for permission to marry Hyacinth and Anthony completely blows the tone with his combination "YES ALL MY SISTERS ARE MARRIED OFF I AM KING" and "hurt her and I won't kill you, I will make your long life a living hell" reactions. I enjoyed this Anthony.
Now, having noted what I enjoyed about this book, it wouldn't be a Bridgerton novel if there weren't also a couple of things that I feel the need to call out as WILDLY WTAF. We're gonna go ahead and start with the prologue, because we need to take a minute and ask ourselves why the actual hell the girl Lord St. Clair was trying to force Gareth to marry had to have a mental disability, and why the hell we needed Lord St. Clair's "kick the dog" moment to be telling his son to rape a vulnerable woman. And that's before we even get into the issues with the rampant asexual objectification and infantilization of disabled people, and how that plays into wildly ableist tropes throughout literature. And the worst part is, this adds literally nothing to the story. We do not even see this character on the page, she is just briefly mentioned twice in the novel and is literally not even an obstacle. This didn't have to be casually thrown in and frankly I saw ten different shades of red when I was reading it. Honestly, it's one of hose thoughtlessly, pointlessly ableist things that causes real harm in the world and I am not here for it.
The other WTAF thing about this book is the fact that Gareth plans to "ruin" Hyacinth. I'm not gonna go do ar as to say there are consent issues here, because to say that would be to wildly and willfully misrepresent their relationship and I'm not going to do that. But I'm not wild about the perpetuation of the idea of virginity as some magical thing that can be taken from a woman and tbat devalues her. And yes, I know, it's it's regency romance. But I can understand scenes-a-faire and still not like it. Which I do not, because it says more about the level to which Gareth initially values Hyacinth than anything else, and you shouldn't have to devalue your SO to feel worthy of them. That is some toxic bullshit, do not do it.
Overall, though, this book was pretty cute and it was heisty, and I am a bit of a sucker for a good heist. Insofar as I recommend any Bridgerton novel, this one was pretty fun.

In the gifset of Claire Foy where she’s being laid on the ground, what is going on?
It was part of the coronation ceremony.
From The Life and Death of Anne Boleyn by Eric Ives:
Anne was supported, again as tradition dictated, by the bishops of London and Winchester; the dowager duchess of Norfolk carried the train - a very long one - and she was followed by a host of ladies and gentlewomen dressed in scarlet, with appropriate distinctions of rank. Special stands had been erected in the abbey, and in particular one from which the king could watch proceedings incognito from behind a latticework screen. In the choir stood St Edward’s Chair, draped in cloth of gold, on a tapestry-covered dais two steps high, which was itself set on a raised platform carpeted in red. Here Anne rested for a moment before resuming her endurance test. As tradition dictated, the coronation was set in the context of a solemn high mass, sung, apparently, by the abbot of Westminster. It was, however, Cranmer who prayed over Anne as she prostrated herself before the altar. Then he anointed her, before she returned to St Edward’s Chair, where he crowned her and delivered the sceptre and the rod of ivory.

rereading my own notes is just going "Man I really succeeded in making the Asshole of All Time with Eric St. Claire."
“But it feels like such a waste, never getting to show you the ropes, never getting an opportunity to teach you what you’re capable of—anyways—best time to start is yesterday, second best is now. So lets get right into everything I’ve missed out on!” He looks over at you beside him, face a mask of delight. “There’s so much choice here—pick your favorite, sweet? Savory? You strike me as someone who appreciates a degree of bitterness. I’m sorry I missed your first—you’ll have to tell me about it sometime.”

Congratulations, you've just found the happily-ever-after you were looking for. Mated is a queer, supernatural romance novella set in modern-day Cleveland. But beware, this is no slow-burn, this is an inferno.
Fast-paced action, romance, and hot sex, watch them find love when they had given up. Book 1 in The Aparatori Series by J. J. St. Claire.
An immigrant from Romania to Cleveland, Ohio, businessman Eric Vasile has grown tired: Tired of being alone and tired of living life in perpetual darkness, tired of this foreign land, foreign language, and foreign people, tired of trying to stay enthusiastic about each new day. That is until he hires Thomas to work for him around his home. But Thomas is head strong, independent, and human.
With danger from old-world clans and much more ancient evils, is it even right to tie Thomas to himself? Can Eric keep him safe, or will danger tear them apart?
Read it here on Amazon.com.
