““My son explained it to me. He said, ‘Yes, it can do all these things. It might even get quite good at them. But it takes an immense amount of power to run AI.’ Whereas you can run a human being on sunlight and a vegetable patch,” Moffat said. “Human beings are amazingly cheap, we’re knocking out human beings every day.” Definitely spoken like someone who spends his days writing about anything but.” [emphasis mine]
Fuck AI, but also fuck the idea that people are cheap and exploitable. The idea that we shouldn’t use AI because it’s expensive is the wrong framing. So is the fact that it won’t actually create new ideas (to add to Davies from the article- how many superhero movies do we need??).
The problem is it’s exploiting people and their work in a system that doesn’t give people the support that they need. Mostly the people who have no recourse and can’t afford to hire lawyers.
Once again, Steven Moffatt can do better.

“Again we have deluded ourselves into believing the myth that Capitalism grew and prospered out of the Protestant ethic of hard work and sacrifice. The fact is that capitalism was built on the exploitation and suffering of black slaves and continues to thrive on the exploitation of the poor – both black and white, both here and abroad.”
—  MLK, “The three evils of society,” 1967

"It is difficult for me to imagine what "personal liberty" is enjoyed by an unemployed person, who goes about hungry, and cannot find employment .Real liberty can exist only where exploitation has been abolished, where there is no oppression of some by others, where there is no unemployment and poverty, where a man is not haunted by the fear of being tomorrow deprived of work, of home and of bread. Only in such a society is real, and not paper, personal and every other liberty possible."

My big brother who finally figured out what I do for a living while he scrolls through tumblr and recognizes me wearing the sweater he got me for Christmas. Of course I don’t show my face but he knows it’s me. He knows he needs to scroll but he doesn’t. He watches me tease my nipples through it and watches as the sweater rides up my stomach. He watches me take the sweater off and cup my tits. He watches as I lean back and take off my panties. And he certainly watches when I begin to stretch myself out with a dildo that’s coincidentally the same length and girth as his cock. He messages me and starts sending me gifts and money. All this leading up to when he finally asks to do a facetime with me. He says he deserves it after all that’s he’s done for me.
Now my blog is all about couple posting. Posting sex tapes where I’m calling him my brother. But of course theirs no way that’s true, right?

Advocates of capitalism are very apt to appeal to the sacred principles of liberty, which are embodied in one maxim: The fortunate must not be restrained in the exercise of tyranny over the unfortunate.

When you take an Uber/Lyft or other ride share service, you're exploiting the driver, who on-average is earning less than $6/hour once their costs as an "independent contractor" are factored in, according to an analysis of 84 million rideshare trips. Stop being an asshole.
