Samantha here from NY/NJ Baykeeper! I adopted my dog, Lady, in 2013 from the Miami-Dade Animal Shelter in Florida. Here are our favorite areas we love to explore along the NJ Bayshore! Remember to bring water for your dog and waste baggies before you head out! 

Hartshorne Woods Park is a Monmouth County managed park in Atlantic Highlands with great trails and viewpoints for you and your pooch. The park opens at 7 am and closes around 9 (depending on the season). The 14 miles of trails are used by hikers, bikers and equestrians so be on the lookout as you walk. The Keyport Waterfront in Keyport, NJ is the perfect walking path for a nice stroll. The path has gorgeous waterfront views lined with anglers and boaters and close to shopping and restaurants. The Waterfront is a great spot for a quick 20 minute walk. A must do! Click here for details.

Cheesequake State Park in Old Bridge, NJ is a great spot if you like hiking with your pooch. The many beautiful trails are lined with amazing flora and fauna. Trails range from beginner to advanced. Leashed dogs are allowed throughout the park and on the trails. Click here for details.

The Henry Hudson Trail is a 15 mile paved path from Aberdeen to Atlantic Highlands. Fun fact – the trail used to be a railroad line! Relatively flat, walking the length of the trail can be a relaxing outing. Dogs must be leashed. Click here for details.

Ideal Beach in Middletown, NJ is calling your dog’s name if they like to frolic in the sand! Dogs are allowed on the beach as long as they are on a leash. Remember to avoid walking (or digging) on the newly restored dunes. Click here for details. 

Sandy Hook Dog Beach is a beautiful classic dog beach. With calm waters and easy accessibility, your dog will love romping around in the sand and water. Your pooch must be on the leash.

Built in 1874, this massive three-story home features a fourth floor cupola, four chimneys, and two projecting bay windows on the first floor. It was built by Peter D. Smith, son of Peter Smith. Born in 1845, Peter D. worked in the family store and mills at Waterloo, along the Morris Canal. In 1874, Peter and his brother Seymour bought the store and mills from their brother Samuel.
