thinking about bacon saying that if he's gonna train with someone it should probably be planet, because planet is especially good at avoiding cobs and that's what bacon's best at. planet's literally a baconwaffles counterpick... of course the one thing bacon's good at is the one planet is best at avoiding. amazing

im actually so in love with how in a pvp server the characters' skillsets are often what matches them in pairs. i've literally made a post thats exactly the same as this one before but I DONT CARE ill say it again losers are the example ever with this because obviously Mapicc is a good pvper who's matched with a bad pvper to protect but also it's not like Bacon is completely useless to him. even without counting on him to be the brain of the team (for example, making those riddles for abyss) i think about this moment soooo much (super secret gear vault VOD)

Like yes Mapicc is great at things like fighting, but if he loses a fight it's Bacon's turn to do things for Mapicc. He doesn't often need to regear because he doesn't often die. Bacon *does* because he dies so much so he's adapted and become good at villager trading, meanwhile for Mapicc that's not a useful skill so he has to rely on Bacon here. The experiences on the server shape the player's skillset to fit their needs and it's sooo satisfying when those shapes fit together (or clash!) with other characters'.

that's just what the conversation about Planet and cobs reminded me of again. Planet's skill dynamic with Bacon is a little weird and off, because Bacon doesn't have the skills necessary to fulfill the role he wants to fulfill between the two of them (Planet does, but he's just not about that life) also just in general there's a lot of talk about what kind of teams are overpowered and how many good pvpers you can have on a team and whatnot... pvp skill isn't the end-all be-all for a team because while it's fun to win it's often matching skillsets like this that make for the most interesting power dynamics between characters. losers power dynamic is amazing because Mapicc could break every bone in Bacon's body if he wanted to and yet Bacon has leverage too, Mapicc respects him and listens to what he has to say even if he sometimes calls Bacon inept for his skills. like, in S6 Mapicc complains a lot about Bacon 'not contributing' enough, about how he's a bad teammate, but it makes you wonder why he stayed with him at all and while i do think a large portion of the reason is just. love. practically unconditional love and loyalty for a teammate are important to mapicc. it's not like Bacon was /solely/ a handicap in that regard.
