examining a seemingly normal image only to slowly realize the clear signs of AI generated art.... i know what you are... you cannot hide your true nature from me... go back where you came from... out of my sight with haste, wretched and vile husk
#BEGONE!!! *wizard beam blast leaving a black smoking crater in the middle of the tumblr dashboard*#I think another downside to everyone doing everything on phone apps on shitty tiny screens nowadays is the inability to really see details#of an image and thus its easier to share BLATANTLY fake things like.. even 'good' ai art has pretty obvious tells at this point#but especially MOST of it is not even 'good' and will have details that are clearly off or lines that dont make sense/uneven (like the imag#of a house interior and in the corner there's a cabinet and it has handles as if it has doors that open but there#are no actual doors visible. or both handles are slightly different shapes. So much stuff that looks 'normal' at first glance#but then you can clearly tell it's just added details with no intention or thought behind it. a pattern that starts and then just abruptly#doesn't go anywhere. etc. etc. )#the same thing with how YEARS ago when I followed more fashion type blogs on tumblr and 'colored hair' was a cool ''''New Thing''' instead#of being the norm now basically. and people would share photos of like ombre hair designs and stuff that were CLEARLY photoshop like#you could LITERally see the coloring outside of the lines. blurs of color that extend past the hair line to the rest of the image#or etc. But people would just share them regardless and comment like 'omg i wish I could do this to my hair!' or 'hair goallzzzz!! i#wonder what salon they went to !!' which would make me want to scream and correct them everytime ( i did not lol)#hhhhhhggh... literally view the image on anything close to a full sized screen and You Will SEe#I don't know why it's such a pet peeve of mine. I think just as always I'm obsessed with the reality and truth of things. most of the thing#that annoy me most about people are situations in which people are misinterpreting/misunderstanding how something works or having a misconc#eption about somehting thats easily provable as false or etc. etc. Even if it's harmless for some random woman on facebook to believe that#this AI generated image of a cat shaped coffee machine is actually a real product she could buy somewhere ... I still urgently#wish I could be like 'IT IS ALL AN ILLUSION. YOU SEE???? ITS NOT REALL!!!!! AAAAA' hjhjnj#Like those AI shoes that went around for a while with 1000000s of comments like 'omg LOVE these where can i get them!?' and it's like YOU#CANT!!! YOU CANT GET THEM!!! THEY DONT EXIST!!! THE EYELETS DONT EVEN LINE UP THE SHOES DONT EVEN#MATCH THE PATTERNS ARE GIBBERISH!! HOW CAN YOU NOT SEE THEY ARE NOT REAL!??!!' *sobbing in the rain like in some drama movie*#Sorry I'm a pedantic hater who loves truth and accuracy of interpretation and collecting information lol#I think moreso the lacking of context? Like for example I find the enneagram interesting but I nearly ALWAYS preface any talking about it#with ''and I know this is not scientifically accurate it's just an interesting system humans invented to classify ourselve and our traits#and I find it sociologically fascinating the same way I find religion fascinating'. If someone presented personality typing information wit#out that sort of context or was purporting that enneagram types are like 100% solid scientific truth and people should be classified by the#unquestionaingly in daily life or something then.. yeah fuck that. If these images had like disclaimers BIG in the image description somewh#re like 'this is not a real thing it's just an AI generated image I made up' then fine. I still largely disagree with the ethics behind AI#art but at least it's informed. It's the fact that people just post images w/o context or beleive a falsehood about it.. then its aAAAAAA

it really is sad that algorithmic feeds have broken peoples' brains so badly. people really do come here and go "wait, i have to CHOOSE who i follow to get posts on my dashboard???" because a social media site working the way they were always supposed to work is so alien now. people will assume the site is a ghost town because they don't follow enough active users. there has to be a constant stream of New Content every time you refresh, regardless of whether or not said Content is any good
you can never just get caught up on your feed and put the phone down, because that's not what tiktok and insta and twitter and facebook have conditioned users to expect. putting the phone down means you're not looking at more ads and generating revenue for the site. when you venture off of the following feed twitter's algorithm is very transparently designed to show you bait tweets and other things that will make you angry, because getting people to argue is one of the easiest ways to drive engagement. it's no wonder threads just launched with no following feed whatsoever, just an infinite stream of algorithmic slop. these sites don't want you to curate your own experience because then you might develop a healthier relationship with them. that's not what they want. they want addiction

i love that tumblr's dashboard doesn't have an algorithm, i love it so much. on facebook i legitimately can't click on anything out of curiosity bc it will be all i see for the next 6 weeks. think a reel of a figure skater looked kinda neat? all you see is ice dancing videos now. thought an ad about shapewear looked fake as hell and watched the whole video just to get a kick out of it? you will be receiving spanx knockoff ads for the rest of your life. accidentally scrolled to a 5 Minute Crafts video and left your phone open on it for more than 10 seconds? well,
i'll just never get over that tumblr doesn't do that to you. that i can click on a mutual's gifset of a weird video game i wouldn't like or reblog a video completely outside my scope of interest and an algorithm doesn't punish me for that. i can freely look at whatever tag i want to and my dash won't get flooded with new content at all unless i follow someone new. i fucking love that

Keys guide to scam spotting (v2)
Hi! I’m Key (Or Jess depending on which blog you know me from) and I’ll be telling you some better information and detail on how to spot a scam account be it a pet scam or a donation scam. All information is based on my own experiences and I’ll try to keep this post accessible so the only big text is the title. This information should help in understanding how these scams work and how to spot them without having to do too much work. As always, if you appreciate what I do and want to show it, sharing these info posts helps other users see it and learn about blogs that might send them asks.
What is a donation scam? - A donation scam is when someone is being deceptive to get money by claiming they need mutual aid or support. For example, they are using the story from someone else’s fundraising post in order to get donations and won’t tell anyone their lying. This is called a donation scam. While the story may be legitimate, it is a story stolen off someone else and means the real person isn’t getting the support they asked for because someone else is using it. These stories are often stolen off Facebook/GoFundMe or even Instagram and could come from a private account or group so searching wouldn’t come up with a source. The images may also be stolen from somewhere else too.
How do you spot a donation scam? - Donation scams are usually easily spotted if you take a closer look at the information being given. Stolen stories will often have certain parts removed and replaced with the information the scammer added themselves. Sometimes the post may be composed of two different parts and won’t sound right if you pay close attention. For example, part of the story sounds fine but then the second part of the story seems out of place and doesn’t match up with the beginning. Another thing to check is how old the account is and if you have timestamps on you can see if an older post is backdated. You can also check to see if the account has tagged certain blogs in their post though this isn’t always a sign of a scam.
What is post backdating? - Post backdating is changing the dates of a reblogged post to look older then it really is. While this can be used with good intentions, scammers often use this to trick people into thinking their account is years old or even a few months old. The one way to find this is by turning on timestamps in dashboard settings and checking ‘other notes’ in reblogs. This is the only way to see the true date something was shared. Accounts who backdate posts will often claim someone told them to do it or they’ll say they didn’t know it was bad. However, you can not accidentally backdate a post.
Did the account contact you first? - A common occurrence is that you will get scam asks if you share a popular or trending post. Usually these accounts send asks to anyone they find without care of who it is and might lie as well if you ask them how they found you. In general, a brand new account shouldn’t easily find you unless they were watching the notes of popular posts. Occasionally these new accounts will even send asks to certain accounts they shouldn’t know about unless they have seen the account before. If your DMs are closed, the ask may ask you to message them because it’s urgent but all they will do is ask for money or ask you to loan them some money.
What is a pet donation scam? - A pet donation scam is where someone has went and looked around for vet fundraisers online and then took it for themselves by saving the images and story while erasing any links that would lead to the real pet getting support. They will then repost it to tumblr and say it’s actually their pet needing urgent care with the post title being very large and in red text for a sense of urgency. Sometimes they’ll say they can’t use GoFundMe because it has a fee or something else. This is a scam because they are not the owner of the pet and have stolen everything meaning no funds sent will be towards the actual pets care.
How do you spot a pet donation scam? - A common way of a pet donation scam is by how old the pinned post is and how many posts are reblogged on the account. Usually there is only a few posts shared and always shared around the same time and then no more. These posts all come from a trending topic, a fandom, or are popular posts. Another thing is checking the bio in Google search and seeing if it’s been took from someone else as the scammer never makes their own bio. Reverse image search their pfp to see who it really belongs to in case they stole it. Another important thing is to check their link and see if it matches up with the vet bill. Since most pictures are stolen off a private group, reverse image search won’t find them. The name they may have is likely not their real name and is stolen.
Did the account send you an ask? - Regardless of what the ask says, it usually requests you to answer it privately or message them so they can tell you thanks. These asks may have several emojis in them as well but their always just copy/pasted and sent to multiple users all at once on a daily basis. The private answer is so the ask won’t show up if someone is looking it up. If their post is public, there shouldn’t be a reason to need a private response to an ask you have sent to many people unless you are trying to hide it. Messaging these accounts is useless because they’ll lie to you when you ask them questions back or just ignore you.
What is a fake check scam? - A fake check scam is when a generally blank account with no pfp will message you after you used certain tags and ask you if you still need help. Even if you have links to send support, these accounts will ignore that in order to ask for your personal information such as phone number or banking details. They will then offer to send you a check. This is a fake check and cashing it won’t be scamming the scammer. You will lose money instead and the scammer will already move on to someone else. Never give them your private information.
Are there any other scam types? - When you tag posts, you’ll often get messages from accounts claiming they can help you get more attention on your campaign but you have to pay them money or go off-site to contact them. These are fake support accounts and they always use stock images while pretending to be officially affiliated and act like their Digital Marketing title means their not trying to scam you. They get defensive when called out and may start insulting you when they figure out you are already aware they aren’t legitimate.
What is a funeral donation scam? - A funeral donation scam is when an account posts saying someone has passed away but the images they used are actually took from someone else and may be photoshopped. Bills may be edited to suit their story and names may be changed to someone else’s. This isn’t a real common scam! But it’s happened a lot lately but the basics are the account will steal someone’s pictures and pass them off as theirs and when caught will say they were forced to or know it’s wrong but did it anyway.
In closing, this is information regarding common scam types you’ll find on tumblr. It’s always suggested to pay close attention to asks you get it they fit the criteria of being sent from a scammer. Answer the asks publicly and call out the blog. The scammer may block you as a result, but it’ll help your ask be seen it someone has looked it up. I suggest never spamming asks to share your pinned aid post because unfortunately scammers do this and you shouldn’t ignore people saying to please stop spamming. Always check to see if someone is comfortable getting these kinds of asks too because it won’t look too good if you have sent them an ask when they say please don’t.
As always, not everyone asking for support is a scammer! Legitimate people are out there. It’s just unfortunate scammers have made it harder for them to get help. You can always do your own research and compare it to what others have given and come to your own conclusion.

Something websites (*cough* Tumblr *cough*) need to learn is that what retains an audience isn't an abundance of new bells and whistles to play with, it's a coherent experience overall.
When someone joins a website, you don't need to grab their attention and hold it. They're already testing the waters. They've agreed to sign up. You've won on that front, and they're there for something specific you already have that they're hoping works well.
What drives them away is frustration.
Frustration, frustration, frustration.
Learning curves are going to be a part of any new website experience; they're something the user comes to terms with, in their own time. But broken or bad features are going to make them jump sites.
On top of that, constantly adding new features makes them feel like all the hard work they've put in to learning what you have isn't worth it; your website looks unstable and your staff looks incompetent, because it gives the impression that you don't know what you're doing.
You are floundering. It makes your new users nervous. It makes your old users hesitate to bring anyone else on board. And why should they? Why should they put effort into it if you're going to throw that effort away next Tuesday? Why get used to a UI that you're not going to bother to keep? Why customize anything if you're going to whittle that customization away?
Between that and the broken, unattended features of this site—the tag organization failing, the inability to look up posts word-for-word, the video player either refusing to play or yanking you to the top of the dashboard, images taking forever to load, advertisements blaring at full volume when you scroll past, you have your problem.
You have the reason why your numbers are failing.
It's not that you're not interesting enough.
It's not that you're too difficult to understand.
It's that you aren't improving what you have, yet you keep adding more half-broken things and unwanted copycat features to the pile.
It's that you're losing your identity in pursuit of a hypothetical perfect customer.
It's that you are actively telling your user base that you prefer those hypothetical customers over them. And your user base, your real people who make you happen, are smart enough to know where your priorities lie.
The bulk of this post talks about Tumblr, but other sites have gone the same way. Twitter is dead and its corpse is decaying in the street. Reddit has sabotaged any trust its users had in its management. If you'd like a really old example—I used to use Fanfiction Net. It's not the most intuitive website in the world, but it was the first one I called home.
I used it to host my works. The adware now on it makes it a hassle to navigate. The bots make comment sections and private messages a dread rather than a joy. So I moved on.
I also used to use it to collaborate on stories with my now-roommate. The message limit was 300 a day. When you're writing dialogue between characters, that's nothing.
So I moved on. We started messaging on Facebook. It was better, it didn't have a limit. But then I learned Discord existed, and I could edit messages, make dedicated channels, etc. So I moved on from Facebook to Discord. And Discord had a steep learning curve, especially if you're trying to make your own server rather than contribute to one. But, most importantly, the payoff was worth it.
If Discord changed its layout every other month while I was learning it, and broke how its reactions worked, and kept shifting what it meant to create a channel? If it opted me into servers I didn't sign up for, in hopes of engagement? If its text never formatted correctly, or its search function only went back a day or two?
I would have gone right back to Facebook. Even if it's a more basic experience, basic is always preferable to unstable.
Figure out what you want, websites.
Slow growth, or a gamble?
You're paying for your magic slot machine in users.

Being the only diagnosed and medicated member of your intensely ADHD/autism family is so fucking funny cuz it’s like
Me: hey guys what’s up?
My mom, who has been cooking lunch for three hours because she keeps forgetting that she is cooking supper because she is still hyper focused on the craft she was making before she started cooking and keeps going between the craft room and the stove, she is blasting a Facebook livestream about crafts: HELLO!!!!!! I was just researching [xyz] and i learned… wait, your glasses are filthy let me just… [takes my glasses off my face and cleans them] anyway I need your help I’m stuck on my craft [drags me to the craft room, my eyes lingering on the fucking pot that’s boiling over. I will end up cooking lunch undoubtedly]
My 80 year old nanny who was given 4 years to live 8 years ago and is baffling the medical world by continuing to live, scrolling the obits in between Wordle guesses, adding names to her “outlived list”, she has an entirely rooster themed house and if she doesn’t have lunch at exactly 12:13pm her day will be thrown off entirely, but she didn’t have all this autism stuff back in her day: Maureen died, [mom’s name] do you remember Maureen Smith? She was the church secretary in 1973? She died, the funeral is on Wednesday.
My brother, who has been making feats of engineering in Minecraft for the last 6 hours, coming in from his daily wake and bake he does to self-medicate for “whatever’s wrong with him”, the same man who built his first PC entirely from YouTube tutorials at age 13: [Infordumps at me about Warhammer lore or Minecraft while I pick up where mom left off making lunch while the chaos unfolds]
My dead Grampy who was a civil engineer who collected hobbies and hoarded building supplies and Weird Shit like it was a full time job who also could not cook without dirtying every single dish in the house, haunting the house he built as a fucking side quest in 1993: [dirties a pot from the beyond somehow]
My dad, 4 hours away who started a business because he was so fucking bored after he retired who used to call me out of school if my grades were good so we could hang out and collect rocks at the beach: [texting] hey this is the red hot chilli peppers song I was talking about a month ago, also, here is a link to a video about space that I thought was really really cool that I want you to watch so you can also think it’s cool! Also just finished season 6 of Stargate, was hoping to call to discuss after work.
My step mom, 4 hours away: [knitting a the sweater The Dude in the Big Lobowski wears without a pattern at lightning speed because my dad mentioned, in passing, that he has a cool sweater this morning. It will be done by 3pm. She is also monitoring a dashboard she coded to link up her numerous excel spreadsheets that run an entire city on her iPad while she knits. She is avoiding making a phone call. She has invited me to join a social media platform exclusively for knitters to share projects and patterns. I do not knit but she is god to me so I join. She is an influencer on the platform]
Me: yeah don’t know what I expected

Self Publishing Promotion Advice
Once you’ve self-published a book, it can be frustrating to try and get eyes on it. How do you direct traffic to your book on Amazon or any other platform?
What NOT To Do
Never pay for “book promo” accounts or reviews.
These accounts do not attract followers that want to buy or read books in any specific genre, and they don’t curate the books they post. They do not send meaningful traffic to your book. They are a scam and a waste of money.
More info:
Questions To Ask Book Promoters on Instagram
Book Promotion Instagram Scams
Never post a link to your book in an online group or forum without EXPLICIT permission.
The vast majority of forums, subreddits, discords, etc. for writers are constantly getting spammed by people promoting their books. Typically, this is against the rules of that community. Posting in a community in a way that violates their rules is not a good way to build recognition for your name and work. Also, you are not likely to find people who want to read your specific book by shotgun blasting your link around the internet.
Many places do have weekly self-promo threads or other specific opportunities for writers to self-promote. Look for those and be sure to read and follow all their rules. But know that there is still a very small chance that you will find a meaningful number of readers in the population of people who happen to be skimming these self-promo threads, especially ones that are not genre specific.
Don’t push friends and family to buy and review your book.
If people who don’t frequently read and buy books in a certain genre all visit your book’s listing right when it launches, it can confuse the algorithm and keep your book from being shown to the right people. Any money you make off people buying your book out of personal obligation will never amount to much and is not a good use of people’s time, money, or good will.
What TO Do
Make sure your book is attractive
Good cover art and a strong tagline and blurb are critical. No amount of ads, links, swaps, etc. will help you if, once you get that visibility, people don’t like what they see.
Look at the books that are the top sellers in your categories on Amazon. Notice trends and patterns in their covers and blurbs. Do research on what makes a strong blurb. Many online writing communities will give feedback on blurbs (be sure to read and follow their rules before posting!).
There are a lot of free resources and courses out there on how to write a compelling blurb. Here are a few to get started:
Reedsy article
Fix My Story
Blue Ink Review
You can also hire a professional cover artist or someone with expertise in your genre to help you with your blurb.
Learn Amazon and Facebook/Meta ads
Amazon and Facebook ads are some of the most powerful ways to get your book seen by people who are likely to be interested. Like any powerful tool, there is a learning curve when it comes to making them work for you. But time spent learning this tool will ultimately be MUCH more effective than just about anything else you could try.
There are lots of people out there selling courses and books on how to use Amazon and Meta ads. My recommendation is that you start with freely available resources and then decide whether you have specific questions or want professional advice in specific areas. Some people understand the data and analytics dashboards but need help writing ad copy that drives clicks while others might need help understanding how to target ads or evaluate their success.
You can watch videos about it, like this one from Michael La Ronn or this one from David Gaughran.
Or you can follow written tutorials, like this one at Kindlepreneur, this one from Jane Friedman, or this one from Written Word Media.
Start reading and searching around and learn as much as you can. When you are confused about something or find a gap in your knowledge, search for videos or articles that address that particular issue.
When it comes to paid courses, I have personally enjoyed the Ad School course from Bryan Cohen, and I’ve also heard good things about Mark Dawson’s courses. The Self Publishing Titans have pretty great SEO, for what that’s worth. Always check out someone’s free resources and look at reviews of their course on other platforms before dropping big bucks.
Use Author-Specific Platforms To Attract Readers & Get Reviews
There are a number of websites that cater specifically to self published authors trying to connect with readers. Many of them work by letting you offer free review copies to readers who are interested in your genre. They read your book for free, then post a review on Amazon, Goodreads, or wherever else you want them to do so.
These sites do not guarantee readers or purchases just by doing the bare minimum - they are tools to use, and you need to learn how to use them effectively for your purposes. Read their documentation. Join the site as a reader to see what things look like from the other side.
These types of websites often cost money for premium features. Try noodling around with their free version before deciding whether it will be worth it.
Some websites in this vein to check out:
BookSprout
BookSirens
NetGalley
Reedsy Discovery
Run a BookBub ad or promotion
BookBub is a specific website that lets people browse for books on sale. You can run ads on BookBub or use their platform to promote a sale on your book. More here: BookBub Promotion Tools
Use A Free Reader Magnet To Build A Mailing List
The website BookFunnel lets you upload a free book (or novella, or short story, etc.) that people get to download in exchange for joining your email list. This is called a lead magnet or a reader magnet. If you have a good reader magnet with an attractive cover and blurb, and you join the right swaps and promos, you can very quickly build a mailing list.
Fun tip: Since having a cool, genre-appropriate cover is key for this, one thing I like to do for a lead magnet is browse through pre-made covers, buy one I like, then write a novella that fits that cover!
Once your lead magnet is up on BookFunnel, you can use their platform to join “swaps” or “group promos,” where your book is promoted by other people or in conjunction with other similar books. You can also post a link to your mailing list signup/book download page on your own social media or wherever else makes sense.
There are other websites that let you do this too - many of the author promo websites linked above have similar features - but I’ve only used BookFunnel, and I find it very easy to use.
You will also need to use a general newsletter platform like MailChimp to connect to your account, but I find it pretty simple to understand once you’re setting things up. And then, of course, once you’ve built a mailing list, you have to use it effectively!

Grow An Organic Social Media Presence
This is a tough one, but for some people, can be pretty fun. Figure out which social media platform has the most active readers in your genre - Facebook, Instagram, or TikTok, probably, but different genre readerships tend to congregate on different ones. Look at the social media of successful self published and traditionally published authors in your genre. See what they’re doing and figure out what’s working. Then do that.
Follow and interact with readers and writers in your genre. Create catchy content that fits the vibe of what is working on your feed. Use analytics tools to improve.
There are lots of tools and guides out there to using social media, from gaming the algorithm, using the best hashtags and keywords, posting at the ideal times, and creating the most ‘viral’ content. You can use a program like Canva to create images and videos.
You can go deep down the social media rabbit hole. There are third party services and platforms that let you post different content and compare its performance. The best thing to do is tons of research, then noodle around with the different dashboards and tools available.

Social Media Writer Guide
Of course, those links above just scratch the surface of what’s out there. Start working on this, and you’ll soon discover what you need to figure out. Then search for tutorials or guides on that.
Hire Marketing Help
If you are struggling with marketing your book and want to hire a marketing professional specifically to help with this, there are people out there who will lend their expertise to you in exchange for some money.
Know exactly what you want to hire for - design and copywriting to create effective content? One-on-one coaching and tutoring for you on understanding the back-end of running Amazon ads? A pre-packaged ad campaign they’ll run for you?
Be careful that you are hiring a professional with credentials in exactly what you are trying to do - run Amazon ads, build an Instagram following, create frequent click-worthy videos, etc. Do not fall for scammy “publishing services.” Check someone out on Writer Beware and/or look for reviews on other websites (not just theirs!) Ask to see work they’ve done for other clients and their data on how well it worked.
You could look for a social media marketing company like this one or this one  - search for digital marketing or social media marketing -, or an author-specific one like the ones listed here. These are all just examples - I don’t vouch for any of these and have never used any of them.

Note
dear flock talk
today my mom stepped into her car (having left the windows open on accident) and found a bright yellow parakeet on the dashboard. we have no facilities for birds but we got the birdie into the house and gave him some mashed banana and some bird seed my boyfriend gave to me, as well as made sure that our cat wouldn't cause any danger. the poor thing seems really scared and freezes whenever i walk into the room to check on him. he hasn't made any sounds since we've brought him inside. we put up an ad for a lost pet but in the meantime, is there anything you might recommend doing to make him feel a bit more relaxed while he's here?
Tumblr media
the fellow in question ^
The banana distribution system is functioning well I see!
Be sure to check for local Facebook groups, often times there isn’t a rescue facility but there will be Facebook groups to post lost/ found animals or online only shelters that don’t have physical locations but will share found pet listings on their site! Veterinary facilities will also be a good place to check, and a good opportunity to have someone check the bird over to ensure they aren’t immediately ill or dehydrated. You can use the site aav.org to locate facilities with avian vets nearest you- this may help you narrow down what clinics this bird may already be a patient in which could help you narrow your search/ leave found bird posters at.
Definitely be sure to keep the cat and bird completely separate (no matter how much you trust your cat!) as just their saliva left over on their fur can kill a bird let alone potential prey drive risks!
In the meantime I’d set up a cage for the little fellow, a deep cleaned cat carrier could work in a pinch if you have one laying around- just ensure the bird can’t fit its head through the bars. Birds can get hurt very easily if left alone in a room (falling from heights, chewing electrical wires, getting caught in fabrics, eating drywall, the list goes on) so do try to find some way to contain them. This will also provide them with a safe space as they won’t feel as out in the open which may help the little banana bird settle in a bit.
In the cage provide their seed mix, clean water, and fruits + veggies near the top of the cage- stressed birds are less likely to travel to the floor to eat and feel safer staying up high. Watery foods like lettuce or apples can help to rehydrate them since they are probably a bit dehydrated after their grand adventure.
As for stress the big thing right now is just going to be leaving them alone, get their carrier set up somewhere quiet and up high against at least one wall, preferably two. Give them space and time to slow down, eat and drink, and de stress. For some birds talking to them very calmly and quietly without major eye contact can also help as well as soft white noise playing to help dull out sounds that could be sudden and startling. Overall just a dark quiet space will do the most good for now

The Power of Facebook Business Manager for Ad Campaigns
In the rapidly evolving world of digital advertising, Facebook remains a titan. With billions of active users and a sophisticated ad platform, it’s an essential channel for businesses looking to connect with their audience at scale. But managing Facebook ad campaigns effectively requires more than just running ads — it demands a robust tool that can handle multiple accounts, assets, and team members seamlessly. Enter Facebook Business Manager.
What is Facebook Business Manager?
Facebook Business Manager is a centralized platform designed to help marketers, agencies, and businesses manage their Facebook marketing efforts in one place. Instead of juggling individual ad accounts, pages, and payment methods, Business Manager brings everything under a single roof — making campaign management cleaner, more efficient, and more secure.
Whether you're a solo entrepreneur or a large agency, Business Manager allows you to:
Manage multiple Facebook Pages and ad accounts
Assign roles and permissions to team members or partners
Control access without sharing passwords
Monitor ad performance and billing information in one dashboard
Why is Facebook Business Manager Essential for Ad Campaigns?
1. Streamlined Organization and Access Control
Managing Facebook ads through personal profiles can quickly become messy and risky. Business Manager solves this by letting you assign roles like Admin, Editor, or Analyst — each with specific permissions. This means your marketing team can work collaboratively without compromising account security or access.
2. Manage Multiple Clients or Brands with Ease
If you're an agency or freelancer managing multiple clients, Business Manager is a lifesaver. You can separate client assets, maintain data privacy, and avoid mixing budgets or campaigns. Plus, you can switch between different ad accounts without logging in and out repeatedly.
3. Centralized Billing and Payment Management
Business Manager lets you link multiple payment methods and set spend limits for each ad account. This centralized billing simplifies tracking expenses and budgeting across campaigns — no more scattered invoices or lost receipts.
4. Advanced Ad Account Verification and Spending Limits
A key advantage of Facebook Business Manager is the ability to verify ad accounts and access higher spending limits, essential for scaling campaigns. Verified accounts tend to face fewer restrictions and enjoy better trust within Facebook’s ecosystem.
Tumblr media

How Facebook Business Manager Elevates Campaign Performance
1. Improved Data Insights and Reporting
Business Manager provides robust analytics that go beyond what’s available in the basic Ads Manager. Track conversions, understand your audience better, and optimize campaigns with deep insights into ad performance across multiple accounts.
2. Seamless Integration with Facebook Pixel and SDK
Integrate Facebook Pixel or the Facebook SDK easily via Business Manager to track website visitors, app users, and conversions accurately. This data feeds directly into your campaign optimization, allowing you to retarget users or create lookalike audiences that perform better.
3. Collaboration and Workflow Management
When multiple people are involved in campaign creation and execution, Business Manager keeps workflows organized. Assign tasks, approve creatives, and monitor campaign changes in one place to avoid miscommunication and errors.
4. Access to Advanced Tools
Business Manager unlocks Facebook’s advanced ad tools, including:

14 years of Tumblr
I was 14 years old, still in school, and discovering who I was and what I wanted to be. I joined Tumblr in 2010 back when it was a very different website. When we were just in the beginning of Web 2.0 and the internet still had the shiny glow of potential and frequently went down and had little to no features.
Tumblr was a place that I met new and interesting people from all over the world. I remember coming home from school every day and logging on, scrolling through my dashboard all the way down to where I had left it (remember chronological feeds? and ones that didn't have update every second?); sometimes when I refreshed the page, nothing new would appear for hours. I remember only being able to post one photo at a time, and when that finally changed and you could post multiple photos, everyone being ecstatic over it. I remember how much porn was on Tumblr, and how Tumblr became known for having the best porn. I remember how shitty the Tumblr video player was. And the mobile website.
The internet was still slow then, it was still largely curated by people and not bots or algorithms, there weren't ads everywhere, and it wasn't serious. Tumblr was a place of silliness and everyone was silly together. It was a microcosm of trendiness and if you used it, you became associated with a group of people that were different. Different from those who used Facebook or Twitter. I remember the 'aesthetics' and when 'aesthetic' was first used to describe something visually pleasing and 'alternative'. I remember 'soft grunge'.
I remember reblogging, what were the first memes, over and over again. I remember how cool GIFs were back when people were obsessed about how you pronounced GIF. I remember when Vine took over the internet and my dashboard.
I remember finding a community of queer people where I didn't know any in real life. I remember speaking to people from all over the world. I remember sending them messages to their inboxes until we would both hit the daily limit (remember that?). I remember the different times of the day that Tumblr would change that was synchronised to the timezones of who I followed. I remember staying up way past my bedtime and going to school the next day on three hours of sleep. I remember using TinyChat and entering the world of group webcamming before it became a work tool. I remember writing to my first penpal. I remember meeting people from the Internet in real life for the first time. I remember going to my first Tumblr Meetup. I remember lying to my parents about it. I remember meeting my first boyfriend. And my second.
I remember getting 'anons' and all the drama associated with 'anons'. I remember sending horrible anonymous messages to people. I remember bullying people. I remember being bullied and receiving horrible messages. I remember when the internet finally 'got real' to me and it wasn't just a playground anymore.
I remember all the iterations of my blog: my obsession with Iceland, meme posts, fashion. I meticulously edited my blog's theme over and over to get it right and best represent me at the time. I remember staying up all night for weeks at a time watching runway shows live as they happened and then immediately blogging about them. I remember the passionate conversations I would have with my mutuals about something we had just saw. I remember when my blog had only 500 followers, being obsessed with my follower count, and seeing it as a validation of who I was and what I was putting out into the world. I remember hitting 40,000 posts and being proud of that achievement. I remember being terrified of the idea that someone from school would find my Tumblr.
Tumblr was such a defining period of my life. I grew up using Tumblr and it grew with me. The people I followed grew up too. I stopped using it regularly after high school because Tumblr no longer seemed to be what it once was to me. While I don't use it anymore, I have left my blog intact as it was. It's a relic of a different time and when I was a different person.
The internet is a very different place; it's not even a place anymore, it's everywhere. Rather than coming home and racing to my computer to log on, I want to turn my computer off and read a book or go for a walk. The internet is scary now and not silly.
Still, I think fondly on the years I spent here and what they mean to me. I am now 27 and thankful for that time.

Note
if you have a spare computer or laptop or whatever, that can be used to host a website too I think. It's just the domain that's the problem I think. I've only got surface level knowledge tho because I've considered turning my old laptop into a server so I can self host my own fucking cloud for writing (I hate Google docs)
Yea! I know a person who's hosting their whole website off a raspberry pi somehow. I'll admit I'm not all quite that advanced with it just yet. That's mostly why I stick to things like Neocities/NekoWeb but I know you can (somehow) absolutely host a website off a spare computer/laptop/pi.
I really want to learn more about that because it sounds really cool honestly. I love what all can be done with the indie web. I worry that people often see what I say as me pointing a finger at people going "you're lazy, you're complacent, you're part of the problem!" When in reality what I'm TRYING to say is "hey the internet is YOURS and centralized web wants you to believe it's THEIRS and you could have so much more than this if you just take a little while to understand how."
---| EDITOR'S NOTE HERE: I'M ABOUT TO GO OFF ON A MAJOR TANGENT ABOUT THIS I'M SO SORRY |---
Like I have had to explain how web surfing works to people, and I think there's this sense of like, I don't want to say guilt but almost like people think you're looking down on them? Because I grew up during a time when we didn't have centralized web, Facebook and MySpace were considered this kinda new and weird thing. I remember when the norm on the internet was "why would I ever want to tell strangers online what I've been doing? That's my business!" Now it's more of like "why wouldn't you? Do you have something to HIDE?!" Which is just... ugh.
The thing that's often difficult for people is that we've almost grown so used to having this "feed" or "dashboard" of content to look at. We want to see exclusively our specifically curated list of content creators. I don't necessarily have anything against that, but modern internet users just have lost the knowledge of how we used to surf the web. If it's not "on google" and it's not "on my dashboard" it may as well be hidden behind 8 layers of encryption, in a language they can't read. That sounds like judgement or like I'm saying "I'm so much better than those modern internet plebs" but in reality it's just an observation that makes me sad.
I recently met a fellow netizen who recently found the indie web, and I was talking to them about how they learned to actually surf the indie web. Specifically how difficult it was for them to grasp the idea because of two big things. The first being that they didn't know where to find "content" and the second being that they didn't want to leave the sphere of their "mutuals."
All of which is Social Media brained thinking, but that's just "the internet" for most modern internet users. If you go on Twitter/X, Tumblr, YouTube, whatever; you're going to find people talking about "Content" whether it's making content, viewing content; they're talking about a product essentially. It's the idea of like "I want new art to look at" or "I want a new video to watch" or "I want a funny meme to laugh at" but it's become "I want content from this content creator I follow to fuel my enjoyment of the internet." Which isn't necessarily an inherently bad thing, but becomes a little bit of a problem when we realize that people creating things for the love of creating; isn't seen as valuable, because it's not monetizable content. You can't say "hey guys subscribe to my patreon and get an exclusive behind the scenes look at my About Me page on my website." That just doesn't work. If you run ads on your website, people just find it annoying; and just won't use your website outright.
I've been asked what the purpose of having your own website is, to which I was kinda stumped because I kinda sat there like "why do you want your own anything?" Would you settle for exclusively renting a car, where you couldn't paint it or decorate it or do anything with it that your rental company doesn't approve of? I mean hell look at how much people hate the HOA right? Centralized web is the HOA of the internet. If you have your own website, with your own webrings, and you frequent forums that foster a community around your interests; then you're not being censored or controlled by some CEO with different ideals. You're not being told what can or cannot be on your blog. You're not being told "this post has adult content" when it says the "T Word" that tumblr hates so much. People always tell me they hate tumblr but they refuse to get off it. Unless of course they can go to Bluesky or Mastodon, or whatever other Centralized Website makes it easy and hassle free. The problem then becomes that those websites are just as controlling and censor what they have to say or outright ban users for speaking their mind.
But like, the biggest thing for me is that a lot of people just don't even know how to really START with the indie web. They don't know how to find forums, they don't know how to build a website; they don't know how to host a website or code a website. I cannot tell you how many people are told they can go from having a page that looks like this:
Tumblr media
You know, header image, profile picture; random little blurb and title, no personality; blank colored borders; "look at my content" kinda shit.
To having a website that looks however they want, like:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
and then they get all excited because like, hell yea man look how much personality there is here! These are just 4 websites I pulled randomly. Each looks entirely different, each has it's own personality and navigation style and each is full of stuff to explore and check out.
Then they hear that all you need to do is learn HTML and as soon as they hear that it's over, I've lost them; they're GONE because they think "ok but I'm not smart enough to learn CODING" and it's like, dude chill.
I can't explain to people that big centralized web really do want to keep you stupid. You aren't stupid, you can learn HTML EASILY, I promise you if you sit down and pay attention to like a half hour video on coding; you'll be able to make a website. If you listen to a 4 hour video on coding you'll be able to make such a cool unique website you're genuinely happy with it.
But the big thing people don't get is that you don't NEED a fancy website or graphics or navigation or whatever. I'm part of a webring and I have 2 websites currently. One that I run personally, one that I run with a few other people. The thing about those is that they're both constantly under construction and almost never actually look like the examples you see above because myself and the others I work with are all still learning HTML.
I'm still in a webring, I still have people who actually use my button to link back to my website and vice versa. I have internet "neighbors" despite the fact my website is not at all impressive. Because the internet isn't for content it's creation for the love of creation.
I get people all the time who tell me they LOVE Hypnospace Outlaw and "wish the internet was really like that" to which I say, "oh you mean indie websites hosted by a webmaster rather than a company with everyone having a unique aesthetic and they're all connected via webrings and categories of their interests?" To which people go "yea that's not real" and I'm sitting here like:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
^ They're the same picture.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I mean okay hell come on THIS is part of a website I found:
Tumblr media
The indie web is so incredible to me, and it doesn't end with just exploring various websites. I've found forums, I've found webrings for video games or apps; I've found CSS scripts to turn my discord into THIS without needing nitro:
Tumblr media
Which I fully admit is a matter of preference; but I enjoy it having more personality without having to pay monthly or whatever for discord of all things. All because I happened to stumble across a website that was part of a webring that lead to another website where I checked the personal projects of the individual and found this old CSS script they were working on; and thought it was cool.
The internet isn't just boring social media that we have to refresh every 5 minutes to get more funny memes; it's a communal place where anyone and everyone can create whatever they want and share it with the world. It's unfortunately very hard for me to explain to people that the Web Revival Movement isn't some like, hardcore manifesto down with the corporations communism thing. It's literally a set of values that a LOT of people on the indie web have. It's not even really a "movement" in the traditional sense. I've seen a lot of youth who get involved quickly lose steam with it, because they're expecting something that it's just, not.
There's a post on a forum from a user that basically said they didn't care for the Web Revival Movement and what's interesting is their reason why:
Tumblr media
This user is still a minor and it's very likely they grew up with social media and "communities" when the Web Revival Movement IS actually just a method. It's a mindset, it's a ideal that a lot of people have and that we tend to follow; it is NOT a community, it is NOT a group of people fighting some fight against social media or whatever.
Another user talking about the web revival "community" likely doesn't help this feeling any, seeing as how some DO view it as a community; but pay attention to what they're saying here:
Tumblr media
"The community of Web Revivalists" Alright, let's see if we can find them!
Tumblr media
Huh... wait hold on let me just try searching in general for websites being created by people...
Tumblr media
Huh okay there's a lot, but none of these websites are specifically talking about a "Web Revival Movement" none of them are out here preaching about some community or anti-capitalist ideals or how they hate social media. They're just, websites. So then how are they part of the Web Revival Movement exactly?!
Well the thing about the Web Revival is that it's about reclaiming tech and figuring out what it is we want from the tech/tools in our lives.
To put it really simply:
Tumblr media
What this is saying is that all those websites are technically part of the "Web Revivalist Community" because they simply put, are online spaced that express the ideals by just... being created.
It's not that this is some community in the sense that You and I belong to The Movement. It's a community in the same way I live in a community, because I live on the same street as my neighbors. It's a community in the same way you could call a group of people who all play an MMORPG a "community" or a fandom a "community" or whatever.
You don't NEED to take any specific action, we're not fighting to make the web a better place through some kind of radical action, we view simply existing in a world that is so centralized; a radical action.
Which is why you have these young activists coming in going "okay I need to abandon everything that isn't anti-capitalist, anti social media, and anti-web3 I need to be an activist, I need everyone to know that I'm creating TO REBEL, I need to make the web a better place, I need to do this I need to do that even though I don't find it fun! Hey guys the internet isn't really fun :("
Personally I do my best to spread the word about webhosts like Neocities, Nekoweb, Teacake, Leprd.space, tiiny.host, ichi.city, tilde.town, and DigitalOcean for more advanced webhosting.
I genuinely feel like people would enjoy the indie web if they knew where to look for it, or knew how to explore it better. I mean look at the way people talk about it in comparison to social media:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
That being said allow me to try to lend a hand to anyone and everyone who may have read this and thought "well I'd love to start exploring websites but I don't know how!" It's easy I promise, just follow these easy steps:
Find whatever hosting website you want to start with; for me it's gonna be Neocities because I am most familiar with it, just find the first website that looks interesting or do what I'm going to do for this example and click random and then click the first website it recommends. In this case we're looking at this:
Tumblr media
Alright it seems we've landed on a yaoi enthusiast website, hey why not. Now here's the thing, you can freely explore this website as you see fit, check out the about, sign the guest book (that's where you can leave a little comment saying whatever, they're fun.) Look through some shrines, explore the site; because someone put effort and work into this, but you're looking as well for a part of the website with some kind of link to a webring or another website.
In this case if we scroll right past the yaoi paddle and look at the bottom middle of the site we see this:
Tumblr media
So these little buttons are essentially personalized links to websites. They're fairly common to have, in fact you can see the webmaster of this site offers their button if you want to link back to them. This isn't something exclusively for mutuals. If I like your website a lot and want to link to it, I use that button there to embed your button on my site and now whenever I access my homepage I have a direct, fast, and fancy link to your website just kinda... there. However for our purposes today we're just exploring the web, so any of these site buttons will do. If none of these interest you, use them as a sort of in between to get to the next; typically though if you're looking at sites that you actually have an interest in, you'll be able to find corresponding websites that are also on the topic of that kind of thing. The best part about this is that it typically leads to a webring which contains a bunch of websites all featuring the same sort of aesthetic, interest; or thing. You can even become a member of that webring.
That's it. It's a 2 step process you repeat for however long you want.
You'll often see people using either imood:
Tumblr media
Or Status.cafe:
Tumblr media
to have some kind of "this user is feeling this kind of way" thing. This is another big thing on the indie web. We tend to embed a lot of off-site features onto our sites. So get familiar with what other people use. You can easily find these sorts of things by just clicking around. For example that bit above in the first image that says "Seven is feeling... Splendid" if clicked, will take you to imood.
Remember, these sites use HTML, and your site uses HTML, and HTML can literally be viewed, edited, copied, etc. By just using inspect element on something and then looking through all the source code.
It's that thing that looks like this:
Tumblr media
You can literally try this right now here on tumblr if you're curious about it. But I say this because it means that while you're out exploring the web, anything you see that you like; you can just kinda... copy the source code for. Why not? You're not hurting anyone! I promise. Learn from other webmasters like this.
The big thing about the indie web is that you get out what you put in. A site like Tumblr or Twitter or Facebook makes it very easy to make an account, but that's all you get; an account. You can't really customize it much, you can't really make it your own. You get out what you put in, you can't really put a lot of effort into it, and you'll not really get a lot out of it either. The indie web gives you literally a blank page and says "hey, code whatever you want in here!" So you can really just... code whatever you want into your website.
I'm more than happy to help explain HTML to people or help provide links to YouTube videos that sort of go over the very basics. If anyone is actually interested in getting their own website I'm happy to help however I can.

TOP NEWS & ARTICLES
Etsy has yet again changed how processing times work for some countries, and this time, they’ve opted everyone into working on every national holiday. [post by me on LinkedIn, with screenshots] Many people are happy they can officially opt out of working on some days, but not so happy Etsy opted them in. The next day, Etsy clarified that this is currently only available for Canada and the US, and is only for national holidays, not regional or provincial ones.
The old Etsy listing form disappeared as promised on June 25, and the new one is still a mess [post by me on LinkedIn]. Etsy claims to have fixed numerous issues with the new listing form, including manual translations, bulk editing, and sharing to Pattern. No word on the numerous pricing issues that have affected non-US sellers in particular through the domestic pricing tool, and that have apparently changed both variations and shipping prices for US sellers. The latest new listing form fix is the inability to save drafts, although it doesn’t seem to be working for everyone.
USPS seems to have reused its tracking numbers early recently, with widespread reports of labels created June 18 and later showing as already being delivered in April or May. I’ve updated that linked Patreon post with info on how to get Etsy to correct their own records, so that seller protection and Star Seller status are not affected.
ETSY NEWS
Wondering if your images meet Etsy’s minimum size requirements? I did a video for you [on Patreon] so you can easily check for yourself.
Etsy is still pushing shop loans through YouLend, “up to two times your monthly revenue.” Thanks to Michele from Artologica for the screenshot of the dashboard notification, and some of what you see once you click it:

and a link to the Etsy program at YouLend. Please read the terms carefully, as they get repaid through your future sales. It appears to be US-sellers only.
There’s a new “Made for You” page with a lot of links to various features for buyers, but I don’t see it linked anywhere on the desktop version of the site. I also don’t really see the point, but maybe we’ll have to wait and see how they use it.
Apologies for missing this one, but sellers in Turkey must now use “ShipEntegra” to mail orders, unless they already use another service. In effect, this means all new shops in Turkey are required to sign up and only ship orders through ShipEntegra, as of June 3.
Apparently the “Buy More and Save” badge Etsy applied to some listings that already had multiple quantity discounts is just a test [item 2] per Etsy.
ECOMMERCE NEWS (minus social media)

eBay is now charging buyers of luxury wallets and handbags an optional $40 for authentication, for items between $200-$499.99. Items $500 and up are still authenticated for free.
The eBay Summer 2024 Seller Update included new tools and renamed programs, but some of them had already been announced.
