I’m normally wary of “surprise your audience” rhetoric as someone who thinks surprise for surprise’s sake can lead to pretty hollow storytelling (side eyeing Jonathan “I rewrote parts of Westworld because reddit guessed the ending” Nolan) but I feel the way Travis spoke about it on the fireside and their general approach with TLOVM has been solid. Specifically, I think it is less about zagging on the campaign fans and more about trying to recreate similar feelings of surprise and “goosebumps” (as Travis puts it). It’s also clear that they are not stalking the fanbases’ expectations and responding to them (I think they gauge reactions, obviously, but I don’t think they are rewriting things around them) - their approach feels more about finding changes that work in a similar spirit, that fit for this story, and trusting the audience will agree. And they might not! Even Travis acknowledged that in a refreshingly non-defensive way. But you can’t live by the whims of a fanbase that is so large and filled with contradictory expectations- you just need to go with what excites you as a creator and hope it works for a majority of your audience.

i don't get why people depicted UF!Papyrus as genuinely evil and/or abusive to Sans (at least beyond reasons of either "Fontcest" [blugh] or "Evil version of brothers who are ride or die for each other = brothers that hate each other")
to me he's just this:

I'd be hard-pressed to make him entirely mean and nasty#also if anything i'd feel like Sans was the favorite kid of the two and that's why he's the one who has all the cool powers#whereas Papyrus had to start from scratch#but that was more as a commentary on how the fanbase latched onto Sans and left his brother in the dust

i woke up annoyed today with the f1 comparisons of it all and i know it isnt a big problem here but i hate when dts/twitter fans start watching other sports and everything is related back to f1. sorry to you but not every breakup is brocedes not every champion in sports has to be compared to lewis or seb etc not everything has to link back jesus christ. yknow why? because they fucking dont.

why does everything i get really into always end up being so god damn niche. by the year 2035 i am going to be blogging exclusively about the interpersonal relationships between the pillbugs and snails hiding underneath the bricks lining the flowerbeds in my parent's garden.

You know i like to some times just browse nexus for fun, and check what mod of even games i dont own are doing
and man there is something really funny and sad about seeing all the mods of fallout new vegas, skyrim, oblivion, fallout 4 very diverse types of mods... and then you look at starfield
like no hate on the modders but it is somewhat funny and sad, what (i feel) most expected to be a modders dream game ended up with far less intersting mods than baldurs gate
#txtalk#tho i do understand that it will take time for people to get the hang of the engine and do the script extendor and so forth#so maybe there will be cool/interesting mods in like a few years#but like... with the amount of press starfield has#kinda dout it to be honest#but hey here is hopping the game can get a fanbase#dont own the game but some of the stuff in it seems cool (not cool enough to buy a full price game but cool non the less)
