Peripherally.
The automation itself is more part of the general category of management strategies to restructure workflow and production methods in order to reduce the need for, and thus the power of, labor. This dates back to the origins of Taylorism itself in the 1890s as an effort to “steal the brains from underneath the cap of labor” and through to the emergence of Human Relations and Industrial Psychology in the early 20th century as a means to better control workers. So I think you could see in as essentially equivalent to classic speed-up and stretch-out efforts to maintain production at as low a cost as possible during a strike, and thus break the union.

However, the dirty truth of automation is that there is no clean way to fully substitute machinery for labor. Due to the inherent limitations of technology at any stage of development, you need labor to repair and maintain and monitor automated systems, you need labor to install and operate the machines, you need labor to design and program and manufacture the machines. (This is one reason why the job-killing predictions around automation often fall flat, because the supposedly superior new technology often requires a significant increase in human labor to service the new technology when it breaks. For example, this is why automation in fast food has proven to be so difficult and partial than expected: it turns out that self-checkout machines are actually very expensive to operate in terms of skilled manpower.) And to the extent that a given automation contract or project is being undertaken during a strike in order to break that strike, that’s absolutely scabbing.

McDonald’s is ditching its drive-through AI ordering system after too many customers wound up with hilarious, wonky orders from the artificial intelligence tech. The fast food giant, which had been testing voice-automated ordering systems at about 100 restaurant drive-throughs since 2021, is now booting it from the menu. It seems to be because AI, at least when it comes to taking orders as people shout them from their car windows, turns out not to be a very good listener.

🌌 Bug Facers had a bartering/trade system rather than a cash system. This trade system was highly complex; people who tried to pass off their goods as being more high-quality than they really were were punished severely. They also had a monarchy, with the Queen being 25% larger than the other people. Her citizens were taxed and the best food went to her. Her function was the same as that of an ant's queen. Actually, more to the point, I picture their monarchy as being similar to that of ant's. However, after their invasion, the monarchy was dissolved and turned into a democracy.
🌌 Despite their relative immobility, the Temptors actually developed some form of culture. Males would spread ideas between females, who rued the fact that they could not meet other members of their species. I also feel that the males could talk, though their enunciation wasn't really that good. Based on the sharpness and shape of their beaks, it's possible they were all-purpose feeders who preyed on insects, nuts, and other worms. The females required three times the amount of food as males in order to provide enough energy for their brains.
🌌 The Lopsiders actually experienced some sexual dimorphism. The reason for this is because their designs remind me of anglerfish. Females were markedly larger than males, and the males depended on the females for sustenance. This was slowly phased out as they evolved, as the species would cannibalize others for food. They had no trade system; they operated under a "it's yours if you're fast enough mentality."
🌌 Because their experience became so automized, the Tool Breeders actually evolved away from actually having blood at all! As a result, their flesh became more gelatinous. While a drought would have slowly but surely dehydrated the species' flesh and caused the end of the species, they learned how to make water from seemingly thin air. They have a capitalistic system that constantly pushes new inventions.
🌌 Much of the Titan's mythology focused on figures who were more mobile; ie., those that had two legs. When a Titan was born with two limbs, they were hailed as a god. They were seen as prophets and harbingers of good luck. They emphasized an ideal that the species could no longer go back to.
Since they lived in a savannah, they also grew thick skin on their bodies to account for the insects and the spikes on their favorite plants. They also transferred to a more vegetarian diet, consuming foods similar to those that giraffes and African elephants eat.
🌌 Hand Flappers had mating dances similar to those of birds-of-paradise. Had they developed sapience, Hand Flappers would have pioneered acting as an art form, using their wings to emphasize their stories. High-class Hand Flappers wore bracelets of precious metals that surrounded their wings. Wing care became an important social aspects; to groom someone else's wings was tantamount to declaring your love for them.
🌌 Satryiacs had fairly short lifespans, which accounted for the amount of parties that they had. As a result, their minds matured remarkably quickly: by their first birthday, their minds were already fully developed. Their bodies followed soon after, and six months later, they were already considered adults. They had very loose views on monogamy; as a concept it simply did not exist. They had relationships with whomever they wanted, whenever they wanted.
🌌 Despite their lack of sapience, the Blind Folk actually had fairly defined parental relationships, mirroring that of humans on Earth. Blind Folk babies were born helpless and unable to do much of anything. A cry from a baby would inspire all the adults in the surrounding area to come to their aid, a fact that was occasionally exploited by predators.
🌌 If put on Earth's atmosphere, Spacers would get crushed underneath their own weight. Also, since they have such modified internal systems, they do not need to eat. However, they need to sleep for fourteen hours in a day to recuperate enough energy to move.

Here I am yet again with another Invader Zim theory
(Pray I do not make another)
MatPat’s old film theory on the series popped up in my recommended feed on YouTube today, and it got me thinking about something. In case you haven’t seen it, his theory was that Professor Membrane (and by extension, Dib and Gaz) was an alien, an Irken specifically, who had been banished to Earth by the Tallest in order to stop him from usurping their position.
It’s an old and silly theory that can be debunked in four simple words: “where’s Membrane’s PAK?” But like I said, it got me thinking. Instead of focusing on Irken/alien material on Earth, let’s focus on elements of human culture on the other planets we see in the show.
Isn’t it a bit odd how much distinctly human food is seen throughout the series, presumably made and consumed by alien species located several hundred light years away from Earth? Nachos, sandwiches, doughnuts, etc. They all look just like their Earth equivalents too, so presumably they’re one and the same and made with the same ingredients. So by extension, things like sugar, corn, cheese, and lettuce must also exist on Irk.
That wouldn’t be so weird—in fact, you could argue that it’s the show’s way of simplifying alien food into something more recognizable for a human audience and easier understood by younger viewers—except that we do see tons of distinctly alien foods in the show. Zim is seen eating a fun dip-like snack in a couple of episodes, and tons of unique alien foods are both seen and named in the episode where Zim gets sent back to Foodcourtia. So this isn’t just the show using visual language to instantly convey the idea of food to the viewer, there is a clear distinction between “human” food and “alien” food. Hell, there’s even something called a Vort Dog, which looks like a small hot dog with a band around the rim, so there’s even alien variations of human food.
But that’s not all! Shloogorgh's Flavor Monster, the restaurant place Zim is sentenced to work at, looks and functions exactly like a fast food place on Earth. An establishment that caters to multiple, distinct alien races, all with their own needs and cultures, and yet it still has the same old booths, cash registers, and happy mascot costumes you’d find at a MacMeaties or Krazy Taco. The kitchen itself is more automated than their Earth equivalents, but the point stands.
Another thing that stands out is how language is used by the other aliens in the show. Zim presumably has a universal translator built into his PAK (we hear what is likely his untranslated speech at the start of the Mysterious Mysteries episode) and given their military conquest, Irken is presumably the dominant language used by the other alien species in the show. But we see Dib interact with multiple other aliens in the show, all of whom would have no reason to know an Earth language like English. This only comes up a couple times in the show, like with the Plookesians, but is a lot more prevalent in the comics where Dib goes out into space more often. And he does interact with a lot of different species, many of which don’t seem to be under the control of the Irken empire. Dib is never shown to know how to speak Irken (unless Ten Minutes to Doom is canon and he retained that knowledge from when Zim’s PAK was stuck to him), and it’s unlikely that all of the different aliens he talks to would as well. Meaning the only alternative is that they’re all speaking English.
So we see human food, infrastructure, architecture, plumbing, and language scattered throughout the vast reaches of space, both within the Irken Empire and outside of it.
Let’s take that information with some of the stuff that MatPat brought up in his theory.
“I only hope the Irkens just so happen to use the same operating system as me.” Even though this line is meant to be a joke, it really does feel like a smoking gun for a link between human and Irken society and technology. The Irkens did know about Earth, but only as an unspecified mystery planet. Professor Membrane’s continued, staunch denial of aliens is odd considering the literal walking proof right in front of him, not to mention how big of a scientific discovery extraterrestrial life would be. And yeah, some of his technology does resemble the equipment in Zim’s base.
Which brings me to my next point: the Control Brains.
The Control Brains are weird. They have very few appearances in the show and don’t appear at all in the comics, but what little screen time they have tells us everything we need to know about them: they’re giant computers in control of the Irken Empire, responsible for handling everything from Irken reproduction to military affairs to corporal punishment. Their design also implies a connection to PAKs. Make no mistake; the Tallest aren’t in control, these guys are. But they’re machines, they didn’t just come out of nowhere. So who made them?
A lot of this is speculative on my part, I’m sure there’s some decade old interview where Jhonen deconfirms everything I’m about to say. But stick with me here.
I think that the PAKs were made by humans, and that Membrane at least knows about them and the Irkens.
A previous human presence in extraterrestrial territories would explain a lot. It explains why we see so much human food; why the alien restaurants, bathrooms, and prisons look and function so similarly to the ones on Earth, and it explains why everyone in space speaks English. It all originated from Earth. “I only hope the Irkens just so happen to use the same operating system as me,” Irken and human computers are compatible with each other. The Control Brains are giant Irken supercomputers. Ergo, they were likely built on human operating systems as well.
The obvious conclusion here is that they were made by Professor Membrane, but I actually don’t think that’s the case; the Irken Empire has probably been around much longer than Membrane has, no matter how many time warps you throw in. That being said, I think Membrane does know about whatever the origin of all of this was. That’s why he’s so in denial about aliens—he wants to keep his son away from that field of study to keep him safe. He ignores Zim’s plans for world conquest for the same reason Gaz does, “because he’s so bad at it.” Membrane doesn’t see Zim as a threat.

Ladies & gentlemen, the greatest fight of the 21st century is expected to arrive within this 2 decade (2020 to 2040), where we will witness a clash between our economic gladiators, who are the GIG economy and its components, and the AI economy and its components. This fight has the potential to decide what will be the future of “bottom ones” in the world.
On one side of the global arena, we have the GIG economy, which means a marketplace where individuals (mostly labor categories) are hired for projects that are shorter in duration and lack all kinds of formal sector traits in it, for example, food delivery, free lancing, project-based hires, etc., and according to a World Bank report, it is expected to have 435 million people. On the other side of global arena, we have AI economy, which means a world where every action of an individual will have a basic support system which will ease its work and help to excel at faster, better and more straight way, for Example: AI writing a blog, AI Drone delivery, AI writing assignments, AI as an employee responsible for hiring and firing an employee, etc.
You must be wondering why two oceans are being compared; it is because they both share the same boundary and are fading at a very fast rate. Also, you must be wondering, “So what??/..., I am not liable for anything and neither affected.” If economics had been this simple, then earthians might never search for heaven.
The Gig economy face a major challenge from AI and you might even have figured out what the challenges might be, but just to make clarity in thoughts, let me explain
The challenges are:
1) JOB DISPLACEMENT: The first and foremost challenge is the job displacement of being fired. Any gig economy roles, such as delivery drivers, customer service agents, and data entry workers, are at risk of being automated by AI technologies like autonomous vehicles, chatbots, and machine learning algorithms.
2) SKILLS OBSOLESCENCE: AI advancements require gig workers to continually upskill to stay relevant. For instance, tasks like basic graphic design or transcription can now be automated, pushing workers to adapt to more complex roles.
3) TECHNICAL SELECTION: Many gig platforms use AI to allocate tasks, evaluate performance, and determine pay rates. This can lead to feelings of dehumanization and a lack of transparency in decision-making.
4) REGULATORY CHALLENGES: Gig workers often provide personal data to platforms, and AI can exploit this data for profit without proper worker protections.
5) MARKET CENTRALIZATION: AI-driven gig platforms can centralize market power, reducing workers' ability to negotiate terms. As platforms grow, they often extract higher fees or impose stricter conditions on gig workers.
These are some dangers that will be faced by nearly 450 million GIG workers in the future from the AI, so now the question in your mind might be, “What can GIG do in front of AI to ensure its survival?” The answer is “Collaborate." The GIG economy, instead of considering AI its opponent, has to consider it a future ally.
The collaboration ways are:
·       AI may evaluate market trends and suggest new abilities that employees should acquire in order to stay competitive.
·       AI-Enhanced Creativity Tools: To improve their work and produce results more quickly, gig workers in creative industries (such as writing and design) can make use of AI tools like generative design or content creation platforms.
·       Fair pricing models: AI is able to determine the best prices for services by taking into account worker effort, market conditions, and demand, which guarantees more equitable pay structures.
·       Transparent Ratings and Feedback: By detecting and reducing biases in customer reviews or ratings, AI algorithms can guarantee that gig workers are fairly evaluated.
·       Hybrid jobs: Gig workers can cooperate with AI systems in jobs like monitoring or optimizing AI outputs that platforms can introduce. 
·       Resource Optimization: AI can optimize routes, cut down on fuel usage, and save time for services like delivery and ride-hailing.
·       Improved Matching Algorithms: AI can be used to more effectively match gig workers with jobs that fit their locations, preferences, and skill sets. This can increase job satisfaction and decrease downtime.In summary, the titanic conflict between the AI and gig economies represents a chance for cooperation rather than a struggle for supremacy. The difficulties presented by AI—centralization of the market, skill obsolescence, and employment displacement—are formidable, but they are not insurmountable. Accepting AI as a friend rather than an enemy is essential to the gig workforce's survival and success.
Gig workers can increase productivity, obtain access to more equitable systems, and open up new growth opportunities by incorporating AI tools. In a fast-changing economy, AI can enable workers to thrive through hybrid roles, transparent feedback, and resource optimization. This change must be spearheaded by platforms, legislators, and employees working together to ensure equity, inclusion, and flexibility.
Our capacity to strike a balance between innovation and humanity will determine the future of the "bottom ones."
