The Governing Council of the Cat Fancy (UK) posted this to their Facebook page today:

We are very excited to announce our NEW RECOGNISED BREED - The Transylvanian! 🤩

'Indigenous to the woodlands and forests around the Carpathian Mountain areas of Romania and Hungary, the Transylvanian cat is the most recently discovered natural breed in the world.

They have fascinating features such as the reverse Karparti coat, born white, over the first 12 months the kitten grows a black, blue or sometimes a red coat whilst leaving the points of the ears, nose and paws white. Basically a reverse point! The Transylvanian is thermal too, being lighter in summer and darker in winter.

The foundation breeders led by Beverly Elian (WCF Judge) are based in Romania, Hungary, Switzerland and in the UK with Stuart & Amanda Brass.

Extensive testing has occurred on all four generations supported by Leslie Lyons and it appears the breed is robust with no genetic or hereditary issues appearing in any of the litters.'

Hi I hope this isn't a dumb question but I'm a new Stars fan (This is actually my first time watching the hockey season) and I was wondering what the "We're not going home" phase is from and why did some people here got emotional when Khudobin said it during our home game on Tuesday

hi!!! there are no dumb questions!!!! the phrase came out of the 2020 bubble playoffs which, wild as it is to realize, were nearly five years ago 😭 so even if you'd been watching for a couple seasons it's the kind of thing that you might've missed anyway!!!!!

technically (& i didn't even fully remember this!) the stars using 'we're not going home' as a rallying cry in the bubble didn't even originate with dobby!!! joel kiviranta said it first, after the stars beat colorado in game seven of the second round thanks to his overtime game-winning hat-trick goal.

the stars' player of the game token at the time was a chain with a big dallas logo in it; a long-haired roope rightfully handed it over to kivi, the room called for him to give a speech, and in response kivi said, 'fuckin' right. we're not going home!'

it became associated with dobby when he was given the player of the game token after the stars beat vegas in game five of the WCF, and succinctly said, 'WE'RE NOT GOING HOME!' before putting the chain on.

all the love to kivi but dobby just said it with a little more panache!! he'd presumably had more time to think on how he wanted to use the phrase!!! also, as you may or may not know, espn+ had a series called quest for the stanley cup for a couple of seasons (it looks like 2023 was the last, maybe because the amazon documentary series kind of took over last season? who knows) & the title of the fourth episode was 'we're not going home' & featured dobby's use of the phrase as a closer to its coverage of that series, which i think helped cement it as dobby's in general hockey media. sorry kivi. we will always have 'joel fucking kiviranta' though!

anyway. all that to say, it was very nostalgic to hear dobby say it on tuesday!!!!!! it's such a Bubble Playoffs Phrase because it just .......... wouldn't really make sense as a rallying cry any other year. eliminated teams in 2020 left the bubble pretty immediately after getting eliminated so everyone could go home & go back to quarantining and waiting to hear what the league's plan was to return to play for the next season.

obviously most of the time, getting to go home during the playoffs is a good thing!! it's part of why teams want home ice advantage so much!!!

2020 flipped everything on its head though & turned being stuck in a hotel in edmonton for that much longer into a good thing. 'we're not going home' essentially just meant 'we're moving on to the next round' but it sounds so much cooler. dobby saying it on tuesday didn't literally mean 'we're not going home' so much as it meant 'we're moving on,' except that he was a game early so once more: can he please come back on saturday?? for the vibes???

i really wish i could easily put footnotes into a tumblr post but here are some sources:

rmnb put out an article about dobby saying 'we're not going home!' because andrej sekera referred to him as the russian machine, which is ovi's nickname. this was super useful in sourcing the vidoes of kivi & dobby saying the phrase from the stars twitter so shoutout to them.

espn did a recap article about the 'we're not going home' episode of quest for the stanley cup, which is kind of fun as an artifact now because pete was vegas' coach when dallas beat them! which i Knew but had like. kind of forgotten. 'Apparently DeBoer greeted every Stars player with "go win it" after they eliminated Vegas in the Western Conference finals.' pete can you somehow bring this energy back but in the locker room this time & with some extra juice. please pete i'm begging.

The .25-20 cartridge was introduced in 1893 by Winchester Repeating Arms Company, a renowned firearms manufacturer in the United States. It was derived from the .32-20 Winchester by necking it down to .25 caliber. The Winchester Model 1892 was the first rifle chambered for it. Its development was primarily driven by the demand for a cartridge suitable for small game hunting and varmint control. This particular caliber designation represents the bullet diameter (0.25 inches) and the powder charge weight (20 grains) used in the cartridge.

Initially, the .25-20 cartridge was chambered in Winchester's lever-action rifles, specifically the Model 1892. This rifle gained popularity among hunters, as they provided quick follow-up shots and were particularly well-suited for shooting small game, such as rabbits, squirrels, and varmints. Lever-action rifles offered a rapid rate of fire, making them ideal for hunting in dense forests or fields.

Other manufacturers also chambered rifles for the .25-20, including Marlin's Model 1894 and Savage's Model 23 bolt-action rifle.

Predecessors and Successors

The .25-20 cartridge was preceded by the .32-20 Winchester cartridges, which was introduced in 1892. The .32-20 shared the same bullet diameter as the .25-20 but featured a larger powder charge. The .25-20 was necked down to accept a .257 bullet. The .25-20 cartridge sought to strike a balance between power and efficiency.

As for successors, the .25-20 cartridge itself did not spawn any direct offspring. However, its popularity waned over time with the advent of more potent and versatile cartridges, eventually leading to its decline in mainstream use. The .25-20 gradually died out in favor of improved cartridges, such as the .22 Hornet and .218 Bee, which offered better long-range performance and higher velocities. Also, the rise of bolt-action rifles made older lever-action calibers less appealing to hunters.

Performance

In terms of performance, the .25-20 cartridge achieved moderate velocities and delivered sufficient energy for its intended purpose. It typically fired a 60 to 86-grain bullet, with blackpowder muzzle velocities ranging from 1,200 to 1,500 feet per second. With modern smokeless powder loads, velocities may range from 1,200-2,100 feet per second. This performance was adequate for hunting small game and varmints at close to moderate ranges. However, the .25-20 lacked the power and range necessary for larger game or long-distance shooting.

Conclusion

While the .25-20 cartridge may not be as prominent today as it once was, its historical significance and contribution to firearms development remain undeniable. It played a crucial role in the evolution of lever-action rifles and provided hunters with a reliable option for small game hunting and pest control. Its successors may have overtaken it in terms of performance, but the .25-20 cartridge will forever hold a place in the annals of firearms history as a testament to innovation and adaptability.

Concentrates on backing the production and distribution of films from Latin America, the Caribbean and the Pacific region, Africa, the Middle East, Central and Southeast Asia, the Caucasus, as well as Bangladesh, Nepal, Mongolia and Sri Lanka.

Founded in 2004, the World Cinema Fund was initiated by the German Federal Cultural Foundation and the Berlin International Film Festival. It quickly established itself as one of the leading institutions in the field of international film funding for artistic and innovative productions.

The goal is to promote high-quality filmmaking in regions with a weak infrastructure for film, while fostering cultural diversity in German cinemas as well as supporting collaboration between German and European producers and partners in WCF regions and countries. All WCF films completed to date have screened at cinemas and/or in the programmes of renowned festivals. Many have also won significant prizes, proof of the worldwide success of the initiative.

Executive Summary

The client for this project got us to build a system which allows individuals to store their medical records in a safe and secure manner. The system offers flexibility to its users to access their records anytime and from anywhere – provided they have access to internet. Besides having the provision to update records, the users have the prerogative to allow permission to people of their choice (i.e. physicians, providers, family members etc.) to access either full or parts of their records on a need basis.There are 3 subscription plans available and users are charged based on the features that they choose to use.

The system stands out for its ease of access and the high level of security. The importance of this system grows even more in times of emergency. It can potentially act as a life saver as there is scope for medical staff to be given access to a member’s medical records in such situations; thereby increasing the chances of providing accurate medical care.

The letter/number combination in the tags is determined using the Fédération Internationale Féline EMS system. I may also reference the EMS codes from GCCF, LCWW, WCF or WOF.

Here is a glossary of colloquial and breed-specific terms for colors and patterns. You can browse the different breeds, colors and patterns featured here through the tags page.

You can send in pictures of your cat if you like and I will tell you what they appear to be. It is helpful to include some history on the acquisition of your cat. It is helpful to include multiple angles, varied lighting, close-up of parted fur and especially nose and paw pads. Remember that this is an educated guess only.

I will answer genetics oriented questions to the best of my ability, I have a working understanding of cat genetics but for more complicated or in-depth questions regarding genotype I recommend asking @amber-tortoiseshell. I’m most confident with my expertise on phenotype (appearance) and cat breeds.

"Big Iron" is a country ballad written and performed by Marty Robbins, originally released as an album track on Gunfighter Ballads and Trail Songs in September 1959, then as a single in February 1960 with the song "Saddle Tramp" as the B-side single.[2] Members of the Western Writers of America chose it as one of the Top 100 Western songs of all time.[3]

It tells the story of an Arizona Ranger's duel with a 24-year-old outlaw named Texas Red in the "town of Agua Fria".[a] The townspeople predict the death of the ranger; an unconcerned Texas Red having already killed "one and nineteen" men, but at the moment they meet, the ranger kills Texas Red with the swiftness of the "big iron on his hip." The ranger's draw was so swift, that Texas Red had not even "cleared leather,"[b] killing the outlaw in one shot.

Robbins's version of the song reached number 5 on the Billboard Country chart and number 26 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in April 1960.[4] The B-side, "Saddle Tramp" was not included on Gunfighter Ballads,[2] but was later placed on Robbins' 1966 LP The Drifter.[5]

The song is also featured in the video game Fallout: New Vegas on the in-game radio stations, 'Mojave Music Radio', ‘Black Mountain Radio’ and 'Radio New Vegas'. The popularity of the game helped spur a revival of interest in Robbins' music in the 21st century. In the decade following the video game's release, "Big Iron" became an Internet meme, gaining popularity through remixes and Photoshop parodies as well as its use on YouTube.[6]

Inspiration Edit

The eponymous "Big Iron" was built by Andy Anderson in his Fast Draw Holster shop from parts. It was on a Great Western frame with a 12" barrel made from an 1892 Winchester rifle or carbine barrel in .44 WCF. Andy was 6'4" with large hands. He put Colt 1860 Army grips on his personal SA revolvers, and this gun has an original grip frame from an 1860 Army. The cylinder is a Great Western cylinder chambered for .44 Magnum.

Robbins happened to be in the shop the day a customer bought the gun. The customer was also a very large man, and Robbins was fascinated by his fast drawing the Buntline. One week later, Andy Anderson received in the mail a record of Big Iron; Robbins wrote the song after seeing this gun. Andy Anderson additionally had a personal gun he called Big Iron, a Colt S.A. .44 Special with 7 1/2" barrel out of his own favorite rig, the "AA", a high rise version of his Walk & Draw Western.[7]

The gun that served to inspire this song currently resides in a private collection.

I've seen people say that and the lyrics don't make a lot of sense to me, either. "Big Iron" is so distinctive because it feels like an artifact from some kind of post-apocalyptic future, a relic of a bygone age, when humans were more powerful than any physical force of nature, when the only way you could truly conquer anyone was with an iron armature like the one that made the gun Big Iron

But Big Iron is also a country song. It has references to farms and farming and ranches and a "cowboy" with a "bronze gun," and if you look at it in a post-apocalyptic context, you won't be able to get it. The song is about someone named "TEXAS RED" with a "twisted face" who "shoots down the sky / like a comet on the sun."[15] And it's easy to ignore the fact that there is also a part about someone called "RANGER RIDER" who "tries to catch him, but he keeps on riding." We are told that "his eyes look dead" and he is "[c]all[ed] 'BROWN TOWN BULL.'" [16] But the song also references "rural farming communities" and "corn and wheat and cattle and hay" and "the sun going down over the Rio Grande." What the hell are we supposed to think, if this isn't a country song but something else?

And that's the important point: the song doesn't come out and say it. The song only exists when you take a country music perspective on it. You only get the sense that there is some other "unspoken reality" behind the words, that the song is "about" some kind of supernatural force and not, say, people and horses and corn and farms.

This is actually a pretty familiar experience, for me, as someone who has a lot of experience with listening to pop music that's "subversive" of whatever cultural context it was written in. In the post-punk and hard-rock worlds, you would be more likely to encounter songs that talked about "subliminal messages," "unspoken realities," or "forces beyond our comprehension."
