In Replacing "Um": Espousing Fluent Communication
made a conscious decision to eliminate the frequent use of the word "um" from my vocabulary. Though it had become a default filler in my speech, I recognized that it undermined the clarity and confidence of my communication.
In Replacing “Um”: Espousing Fluent Communication If I had to give up one word that I use regularly, it would probably be “um”. While it is a common filler word in casual speech, it doesn’t add much value to the conversation. By consciously removing it from my vocabulary, I can strive to communicate more clearly and confidently. I made a conscious decision to eliminate the frequent use of the…

I think Jorvegian has a lot of little fillerwords/filler-sounds in it (the sounds we hear in game) that can seriously shift the tone and/or meaning of a sentence, even with the same sounds depending on where it's placed and such. It makes Jorvegian a harder language to learn (at least in speaking it) because you could be telling someone you like their horse and accidentally place a filler sound wrong and now the tone and meaning has entirely changed and they never want to talk to you again.
In terms of religion, I don't think a lot of Jorvik is actively religious, but they are brought up with the stories and folklore and such, and often casually listen and enforce the lessons said folklore teaches, as well as having superstitions based on it.
Of course depending on area where one grew up this might be more or less intense (i.e. Crescent Moon Village is way more superstitious than New Hillcrest), and different areas may place more importance on different folklore (and may even have their own "exclusive" local folklore), but it's still a throughline for those raised on Jorvik. It's like. "Yeah Galloper Thompson's legend tells us not to mess with the runestones. Do I believe in magic? Not really. But like I'm not gonna touch them and neither should you?!?! WHAT are you DOING?!?! Get your hands away from that runestone or so help me Aideen-!!!".
Also, people will warn you about certain folklore customs and such very casually, since it's just part of daily life for them.
"Oh yeah this is the road to Valedale, just make sure to stay on the marked paths and don't follow the lights you might see, lest you might not be seen again. Anyways I've marked the picnic spots on your map, have fun!".
"Oh yeah just make sure you get out of the Mirror Marshes before dark, people have a tendency to disappear or come back wrong. Super hard to navigate, too, and there's snakes in the marshes and you really don't want to get bitten just because you accidentally stepped on one of 'em."
"Yeah you better get moving before we close the South Iron Gate for winter, gotta keep the snow ghosts and Winter spirits in so they don't terrorize the rest of Jorvik. I mean I guess you could try the ferry but it's kind of inconsistent and expensive in winter, it's really not worth it."
What kind of headcanons do people have about living on Jorvik?
Like what kind of tradition do you think jorvikians have?
How do you think religion work? What are common school subjects? What kind of food is common jorvikian meal? What would make turist go "thats wierd", "thats interesting" or "thats cool"?Ect, ect.
I love to hear what people think Jorvik would be like.

Writing advice: filler words
Think of filler words like a filler episode in a TV show. They don't add anything important.
They're unnecessary, add to your word count, and often lower the quality of your writing. That's not too say you should avoid them completely (for example, they fit well in dialogue!), but rather use them in moderation. Be discerning with how you use them.
Examines of filler words:
That
Some
Just
Literally
Was
Maybe
Very
Really
Seem

#anger, at times (most times), leads to a ~reactive~ response. • I am attempting to notice my #TRIGGERS • When do I feel overwhelmed, disrespected, unheard, frightened, pissed 😡, etc. • Expressing myself while vibrating in these states of being don't serve me or others. • • side note 📝 :: #fillerwords BEGONE! (just, like, you know, basically, so....) eliminate (or greatly decrease) your use of filler words, it lures focus elsewhere. It begins to direct folks thoughts 💭 to think that you aren't clear in what you're saying.

you know what i also love about Frank?
he doesn’t do movie speak.
he stutters and stammers and mutters and cuts sentences off midway and uses fillerwords like ‘shit’ and ‘you know’ and ‘yeah’ and just...his speech pattern is so normal, like how a normal person would talk in real life. because the least realistic thing in movies and tv shows is the way people talk. and frank talks like a real human being.
which made the whole show feel more real too.
i love frank castle

Fillers in Ehenihv: When you are Trying to Find the Perfect Word Amidst Conversation.
Da musti!
Kitit to @maldreathezora for the inspiration for this blog.
For now, these are not in the official online dictionary. However, I feel it might be prudent to add them in at some point.
Aussi, je vais vous donner les traductions françaises de ces mots.
***
Den (day-N or like the name Dane)
English: Ummm...
Français: Euh...
Ano (Ah-NO)
English: So...
Français: Alors...
Kaf!? (kah-FF)

Français: Quoi !?
Ne (Nay)
English: Huh?
Français: Hein ?
Tapili* (tah-PEE-lee)
English: Basically...
Français: Bref
*Note: this literally translates as ‘Simply’.
Haili (hah-EE-lee)
English: Actually...
Français: En fait...
