This story focuses on Qi Xiaotian, the Monkey Prince, and young “human” orphan MK as the two try to reunite while also avoiding every third party force trying to use the two for their own personal gain.

And what is worse, none of them want to explain how he got this way.

Summary: When Macaque was killed, he expected his soul to be taken to the Diyu. Instead, he finds himself stuck to Wukong- the very man who ended his life. When Soul collectors come to see what the hold up is, they inform him that as the two had been tethered in life, so too are they in death. Macaque will only ever be free when Wukong has found peace and moves on. This goes on for a long time, yet when Macaque feels the tether start to loosen, he panics and realizes- he doesn't want Wukong to let him go.

Summary: Based on Taken once more, but with the twist that instead of taking MK to the human world, Nezha took MK with him to the celestial Realm. From there he raised MK himself as his apprentice. Hiding him with a glamor and instilling a misguided loyalty to the Jade Emperor. The Jade Emperor is insistent one of the twins must still die, but agrees to keep MK around, hoping to find a chance to kill the other twin instead and keep the loyal MK as his own bodyguard.

Taken Reverse/Swapped

Summary: Another Taken Au. XiaoXiao and MK are born, but instead of MK being taken Xiaoxiao is instead. He would be Xiaohua in this one. Xiaohua, who is abandoned at an orphanage, winds up being taken in by the Spider Queen when he shows promise as a thief. Xiaohua is living the life of crime, while in return MK (Xiaotian) is being raised to follow in his Father's footsteps as a hero. The two eventually meet and clash.

Taken back

Summary: yet Another Taken Au “what if”? This one inspired by the concept of… what if MK had been found by Wukong after being Taken by Nezha. Fate bringing the two together. Unable to resist the sweet little boy’s charms, Wukong takes him to have a playdate with his own son. From there, MK’s life is turned upside down as neither Xiaotian nor his parents want to send him away. Seems… he’s found his home. But what consequences will this bring??

-most may know this, but I changed the plot of the Story within the first few chapters. When Wukong left to head to the City, intent on finding a new home for his son… he was originally intended to go through with that.

I have Many MANY chapters of this unfolding- of Wukong actually going through with abandoning MK.

It was farrrr different than what the story has changed to now. And I love the direction the story is now going, but I had a lot of angst planned for the original :)

One day I might even post what originally was intended to happen.

Eddie obviously knows how to sew (hes not only dirt-poor living off of a single consistent paycheck and whatever he earns selling drugs, but hes also a punk- theres no way he DOESNT know how to sew), but steve most definitely does. not. one of his shirts get a hole and he throws it out.

When eddie first witnesses this, hes fucking MORTIFIED and ends up digging a t-shirt out of the trash and sewing the hole closed and fixing the loose stitching on the hem and gives steve a lecture about not wasting fabric and money.

And from then on, steve just shows up at the munson household every now and then with various clothes in his arms, asking eddie to fix them for him.

I “fixed” a set-in olive oil stain on my pants the other day. I think I like them better than before, even 🌱 I got the stain eating humus from my favorite Lebanese restaurant—so the inner part of the fern curls around the stain. Idk, I just didn’t want to cover it entirely. It’s a good memory.

I feel like I can be a bit more vulnerable on this platform—nobody knows who I am and that’s so refreshing. I’m in the midst of hoping that no one I told to follow me over here from IG actually does. I’m very tired of trying not to make an idiot out of myself anywhere that my partner’s parents might see. Or old college friends.

I’ve spent about a week not making any art or writing. For context, I’m an American. I’ve grown up having a lot of political anxiety but nothing has compared to the stress, fear, shame, and embarrassment I’ve felt over the last few days. For myself and my family, my communities, all the people that didn’t want this to happen, and all the people who’ve been working hard for it not to.

But I have to remember that this type of chaos isn’t unprecedented—it’s just here now (in lots of ways it’s been here all along). And it’s our turn to figure it out. In that way, this may have been inevitable. To root out and destroy complacency and the evil of compliance. In ourselves and in our systems.

Yesterday I learned darning your clothes is really easy. My favourite overall’s got a hole in them and I was able to fix them in a day while listening to about ten episodes of the Magnus archives. I actually really like how this turned out and want to get better at it.

I started learning how to WEAVE! That’s so cool! With any luck this method will stop the hole getting bigger as well as covering it!

Someone broke my laundry hanger. He said him breaking it was the hanger's fault for being fragile. I kicked him out of my home and got to work.

You poor thing. You've dried so many loads of laundry. You do such a good job. You've done nothing wrong.

I have a two sets of wire pliers and could not find a single one. I borrowed this one and it was... Fine. It was able to cut and bend wire.

I hate to, just add details, this part. But I have no pictures. See, a spinning part meeting a drill(that spins) meant that this was a genuinely very annoying experience.

I could not take pictures, so I put my phone away. I will add gifs where I would've put pictures. Here the seal demonstrates how the inner turning part acted during drilling.

I eventually was able to drill a hole nearish to the middle of the rack's broken part.

I lined up the drilled section from the rack part to the hook part and drilled a hole in the hook. This was much easier because the hook did not move. It behaved.

I then made a length of steel wire, it's a few mm thick and very uncomfortable to bend by hand.

Using skills I've gained from previous fixes, wire ornament making, post hitching, and tamandama making, behold:

A before and after video showing how well I kept that swivel function. It turns the same as it did before!

Zero loss of function!

Sometimes I impress myself and this is one of those fixes.

I'm pleased as punch

Another multi-parter for both thighs across the main seam of a pair of jeans! This is a VERY common canvas for sashiko 'round this household, seeing as both Razz and I have pretty thorough thighs. Luckily, having learned my lesson (somewhat) from the giant patches in the same area I did previously, I split this into two designs, even if the patch fabric itself was one piece. Both designs are from wrenbirdart's stick and stitch collections, barring that little section on the first one I pencilled myself, as the main pattern was slightly too small.

First up we've got this genuinely delightful set of little asterisks, formed out of vertical, horizontal, and two diagonal sets of stitches. The first set of stitches immediately make clear that I really should be more careful about my math when I'm trying to duplicate the wrenbirdarts patterns onto my own dissolvable backing. Sure, that set all the way on the right is off by increasing increments of a quarter inch with each set, but I actually don't mind that look too badly in the end. The general look of all the eight-pointed overlapping crosses works super well, and I may take some inspiration from the mildly-fumbled pattern on that hand-pencilled section to make an alternating pattern of standard crosses and the asterisks, in the future.

Secondly, there's this pine forest design! I really had a love hate relationship with this one, as the pattern itself is SUPER pretty, I mean, look at that final picture! It's so beautiful! The major downside, though, is that it doesn't lend a lot of opportunities to load up straight stitches in a row. As you can kinda see in the progress shots, you do that central "coordinate grid" of a given pine top, then go quarter by quarter, filling in the other stitches, one by one, individually. Which, to me, is SUPER boring, I much prefer to load up a bunch of straight stitches in a row, then pull them all through, smoothing the fabric afterwards. So, partially because I wanted to get it done and over with as fast as possible, and partially because my jean shorts were in DIRE need of fast repairs before I could wear them in the (then incoming) summer heat, I somewhat sped my way through the pattern, in hopes that I can later come back to this pattern, and develop a more-loadable version that still keeps the pine-like beauty of the finished piece here.

Another jeans repair, this one for my husband's jeans. If I was doing it again, I would zigzag round the edges of the patches separately before attaching as the zigzag on the jeans is quite strong. My husband said he liked it though- I think the symmetry helps.

Reminder than cotton is one of the most water and agricultural chemical hungry crops on the planet, and producing a single pair of jeans takes nearly 8000 litres of fresh water, plus a lot of human labour. So every little bit helps.

When do I give up on something?

(And how I low visibility mend jeans)

That depends on several things(what doesn't).

Sentimental?

Usable to me?

Usable to someone else?

Take these pants as an example.

Rejected by local thrifts(except for fiber recycling)

Not my size(it's Pre-K sized)

And it holds no sentimental value for me.

The bottoms and side pockets have significant wear as does the back. There are also stains and paint splatters.

Understand now that these are not staying pants. These shorts are pining for the fjords.

Now!

I've been needing a sacrifice for a demonstration. I now have one.

Let's see if these are compatible with an invisible or low visibility mend, shall we?

First step because of how thin this fabric is compared to regular denim, a back patch. I have a light blue flat sheet I bought years ago specifically for this purpose.

Other things I've used include denim from other jeans(I'm currently out), blue quilters cotton, a scrap of non-stretchy t-shirt, etc. Basically if it's anywhere near the color, then I'll use it.

Due to budget constraints, the closest thing I have is DMC 793. If you can run to the nearest fabric store and color match your pants, then definitely do if you're looking for that full low visibility. I will be turning this into pockets, which gives me wiggle room.

The outside and the inside.

Make sure your stitching follows the visual lines of your fabric!

At first I did tiny stitches to tack the patch down. Then I did a sort of, side by side running stitch for most of it. The worst parts I did lines of back stitches.

Invisible at almost any distance. Low visibility if someone is right up at you.

Unless you know what you're looking for; your eyes vibe past it.

And if you use a thread that directly matches your clothes? Invisible in the truest sense!
