GALLACRAFTS || THEME 18 || SHORT KING
This month was a @gallacrafts based on a one-shot. No surprise, I picked a space themed fic.
I give you a Flirty Pilot Ian and Mechanic Mickey from @the-rat-wins / the_rat_wins space AU Flyboy and the Gearhead! I had read this for the first time in Dec and loved it so much. I had saved its as Gallavich meets Battlestar Galactica, which also inspired me to include my BSG model as Ian's ship.

love edition - thanks @heymacy for this weeks game and for tagging me!! <3
name: deanna🌱
where the heck are ya? oHIo🌽
do you believe in love at first sight? in my fiction? yes. in reality? eeehhh...
do you believe in soulmates? like predestined one person for one person, not really. but i believe there are people out there you can make soulmate level connections with.
what’s a song you’ve been loving? im still on my guilty pleasure by chappell roan shit right now
how about a show you’ve been loving? ive been enjoying the show death and other details starring the loml rahul kohli
your ultimate OTP: i mean its gonna be ian and mickey huh
your comfort book: the masked empire by patrick weekes
a fan work you adore (fic, art, manip, etc — tag the creator!): i've been thinking about the incredible amount of detail and hard work and talent involved in these cookies made by @michellemisfit every single one of them is such ART. and so many different techniques used to create the right textures and the shiny decorative glass on the alibi?? i mean jesus michelle you were so insane for this. and two fics: a short one Flyboy and the Gearhead by @the-rat-wins which i read recently. im obsessed with the scifi world depicted in it and i loved the ian and mickey in it, they hurt me in the good way lol. And a long one you'll never see us again by @spoonfulstar which i read awhile ago but i still think about it on a regular basis, i maintain it permanently altered my brain chemistry. It's beautiful, its a work of art, it ripped my soul in two...but in the good way.
a trope that captures your heart: mutual pininnnggggg
favorite candy: is it andes chocolate mints?? yeah i think so.
dark chocolate or white chocolate? dark chocolate!
romance novels or thrillers? god i'd love it if theyre both at the same time but if i have to pick then romance.
pink or red? pink :>
and finally, spread some love! share words of encouragement, a positive message, or say something kind to yourself — it’s up to you! to me and everyone else: keep making the things that get stuck in your head and make your heart sing. you cant please everybody so first and foremost make sure you're enjoying what you're doing <3

PGR Hurricane Ian Relief---- The below letter was shared among the Patriot Guard Riders across the nation. I'm including here so people can link to it and share publicly. If anyone has questions they can contact me here on Facebook or David as per info below......
A Letter From Florida State Captain David Shelton
Fellow PGR,
FL PGR has taken on a daunting task of assisting in hurricane relief to those devastated by Hurricane Ian in SW Florida, which is headed up by PGR out of West Palm Beach. We are currently set up at Rockstar Harley Davidson in Ft. Myers (ground zero) where hot meals are being cooked and provided to the activated National Guard, Veterans, First Responders and others in need.
In addition to serving meals at the Harley Dealership, food packages are bundled and delivered to other areas in need, as many affected by the hurricane are no longer mobile.
As of now, 500 meals a day are being served and it’s getting a little overwhelming. Any assistance you can provide would be greatly appreciated, be it in person to help cook / deliver meals or donations of food, water or much needed funding to help replenish food supplies.
Any monetary donations would be extremely helpful. Your tax deductible donation can be made via deposit at any Truist Bank payable to Patriot Guard Riders in Florida, Inc., (Contact State Captain at [email protected] for account number) or Zelle transfer to [email protected] or Paypal to [email protected] (which is the email address attached to our bank account).
All funds received are sent to the PGR team in Ft. Myers to replenish much needed relief supplies.
Thank you in advance for your kind considerations.
Respectfully,
David “Flyboy” Shelton
Florida State Captain

I usually don't read Major Character Death fics, but Fade This One to Black is worth the angst. Specially because it's a temporary character death and the imagery, even dark as it is, is amazing. The_Rat_Wins is a great author.

Hi I was wondering if you knew any fics that focus on Mickey being rlly good at things? Like anything, math, cooking or whatever. And also maybe him being like the best Ian’s had for sex or bj’s
People like writing Mickey being good at stuff and give him different proffessions. Cause he’s the best 😍 We mixed some closer to canon fics and AUs here :)
We’ve answered asks about Mickey being good at drawing and about Mickey being good at math.
 - Mickey being good at cooking:
The Way To A Man's Heart Is Through His Stomach series.
Bon Appétit - Mickey is an insufferable new chef at the restaurant Ian works at.
 - AUs with Mickey being good at magic:
another taste of divine rush - Gallaghers have white magic and Milkoviches have black magic coven. Ian didn’t know what was wrong with his magic, but it liked to create random hexes out of anything. One day he accidentally curses Mickey Milkovich’s sister.
Bad for Business - Mickey works at the magical shop and Ian happens to be a frequent customer. It’s only a coincidence that their magic is compatible.
 - Mickey being good at random stuff:
Muse - AU where Mickey is a succesful interior designer.
While We're Making Other (People's) Plans - Post S10. Mickey is being so good at wedding organization he gets hired as a wedding planner.
Flyboy and the Gearhead - Space AU where Mickey is being a good mechanic for spaceships.
What Became of the Likely Lads? - 11x06 fill-in. Mickey being good at robberies and not getting caught.
The Artist & the Muse - Mickey being a good tattoo artist.
Restoration - Mickey being a good construction worker.
 - The best Ian’s had in terms of sex:
Slept With Someone - 1x07 first time fill-in.
Ten Minutes - Ian and Mickey have to leave in ten minutes. Mickey bets he can get Ian off in five.
Heartbeat - Journalist Ian gets to write an article about Mickey Milkovich, the rags to riches medical engineer. Mickey’s very good at both his profession and sex.
Love is a Ballfield - Mickey’s basically the best at everything he does there, including sex :D
There’s probably so much more we could include, but it’s already a long list... I hope you find something fun! If anyone can suggest something in the notes, that’d be cool, cause I also love reading about Mickey being competent.

Ten under Ten
So what do I do instead of writing my Big Bang? Write a fic rec that no one asked for. As the title says - ten fics under 10k (mostly)
Familiar Mickey gets out of prison, narrowly escapes getting caught in a thunderstorm, perhaps experiences something magical, gets some ink, makes a friend, gets the upper hand back. (Cute and fun and full of Mickey healing)
Strangers on a Train Ian and Mickey are strangers who "meet" on a train. (Stranger smut. It’s good!)
Postcards from Mexico Everyone likes getting postcards. (It’s only 223 words, but it’s fun!)
Look Through to the Water and into the Sea (Close your eyes and come away with Me) The first time they fuck, it's like water spilling through your hands, desperately trying to hold onto it as it slips away. (Emotionally charged, well-written smut)
Late Night Phone Call The first phone call comes at 2:13 in the morning on a Wednesday two weeks after Ian left him. (Post 5.12 and so good. It hurts in a good way - the way that comes with an eventual happy ending. It’s a little over 10k, but whatever.)
Flyboy and Gearhead “I’ve got a fight tomorrow night. Maybe I’ll come by after?” His eyes are fixed on Mickey’s face.“Yeah, sure,” Mickey says after a second. “Bring me whatever you’ve got.” (I mean, everything she writes is great, but this is my favourite.)
All of Me wants all of You Mickey tells everyone that they met during a bank job in Buenos Aires. (It’s been a while since I read this, but it was so good and original!)
The Pier It's always been this, them - this pier, this game, and just the two of them for miles. (Sweet and smutty.)
Southside Blues (Bang Bang, My Baby Shot Me Down) Debbie and Lip look at him. Then they look at each other. Then they look back at him."They said there was a lot of blood when the ambulance came," Lip finally says. "We didn't know what had happened. Figured we should stop by and see if you made it." He shrugs awkwardly. "How you were doing.""Huh," Mickey says. He can hear what Lip is saying, and there is probably a world out there where his words make sense. Mickey is pretty certain that this is not that world. (Post 5.12. Mickey gets shot and the Gallaghers etc prove they’re still family and I cry. Every time.)
Mandy Milkovich, Accidental Matchmaker (Or Mickey's Not Getting Paid Enough For This Shit) “If you want outside the norm I could hook you up with some friends of mine,” Ian offered with a sly smile.Mandy must have caught it just as well as Mickey had because she narrowed her eyes, “What do you get out of it?”“Your brother’s number,” Ian shot back immediately and the sound that Mickey made was somewhere between a squawk and a growl.“The fuck you will,” he spat but neither of them was paying him any attention. (Super fun, excellent banter, and, honestly, I wish there was more!!)

@alter-alterego asked:
Lofty! Were you serious when you said to give you a number b/w 1-40 and you'd tell us about your fic draft/outline? 'Cause if you are, might I try number 17 for kicks and giggles?
And
(And if you weren't serious about the "name a fic number thing, can I go with #12 and/or 29? Whichever you're more inclined to answer, or haven't been asked by that point.) ;)
And yes and yes! I am always serious about getting to talk excessively about fic ❤ I’m going to start with the questions and end with the draft/outline under a cut.
12. Is there an episode above all others that inspires you just a little bit more?
This is a tough one! But I think I have to say 5x1, because it has so much potential when you look at it as an isolated episode. Consider the family breakfast dance and just imagine what has happened in the months since we saw them last, imagine everything they’ve done and said to get to this point. Imagine how much better they know each other and how much more comfortable they are as people and as a couple. Imagine the consequences and emotional fallout that should follow the mania-induced infidelity. Completely disregard the fact that nothing at all is made of it, in the end.
29. If you could write the sequel (or prequel) to any fic out there not written by yourself, which would you choose?
Oh I don’t knoFLYBOY AND THE GEARHEAD. (I’m pretty sure like 5 of the drafts in my ideas folder are derivative of this fic anyway, so might as well.)
So, I’m just going to share the whole outline of this idea under the cut. I’m pretty sure I will write this at some point, so if you don’t want to be teased just skip this bit.
INCEPTION AU
Mickey is the exasperated point man and drugs expert to Ian’s intuitive and reckless architect and dreamer.
They have history.
Mickey doesn’t have to repeat a year, but instead focuses on school as a way out. Leaves high school with straight As (maths and art) gets full ride to MIT, MA in Architectural Design. He doesn’t make any friends, because of his general demeanor and bad attitude, paired with the fact that he’s the best student in his year, and probably in years. But he’s not very good at following rules, so he doesn’t do well with the hierarchy of the architectural world. His final year, he’s approached by a group, looking for a new architect. They’re dream sharers, and he starts training with them. His studies take a hit and he loses his scholarship. He comes out to his family over Christmas and then disappears. He’s the main suspect of his father’s murder, when Terry’s body is found some time later. As far as the authorities are concerned, or all his siblings know, Mickey’s dead too.
He meets Ian after a couple of years in the business. They bond over their shared birthplace, and quickly start hooking up. It’s no strings attached - adrenalin after a job - kinda physical off and on relationship. Never on the job, always after, months sometimes years apart.
Ian got into West Point, and while there he took a test that qualified him as compatible with a new program. They train him to share dreams, but when he’s sent out on his first field op he messes up real bad, bringing in his own projections and havoc ensues. He’s diagnosed with bipolar and discharged. He takes up with rogues, and for a few years he’s able to make it work, working with and around the symptoms of his disorder, using the liberal drug culture of the dream sharing community to self-medicate. When he disappears into depression, there’s no one to notice. He thinks he has it under control, but during a job with Mickey and a couple of people they’ve worked with before, he loses control and almost jeopardizes the whole mission, as well as their lives.
Mickey tries to make him quit, because the job is messing him up, tries to make him take his meds and be safe. Ian doesn’t understand why he cares, and they have a huge argument. After that they don’t work together or have any other kind of contact.
Maybe this is where the fic starts? With Ian doing a job, and in the dream sees Mickey as a projection. They’re in a hospital and Mickey is carted past them, unconscious on a stretcher. Ian has been on his meds for a while and been thinking that it’s been going well, but this is not good. (Maybe Lip is an architect too, and he’s in the dream with him and sees Mickey, accusing Ian of projecting and not keeping it together.) Ian takes a vacation, but he can’t stop thinking about Mickey in the dream. More and more convinced that it wasn’t his projection, but the memory of their mark.
So he starts looking for Mickey. In his search he finds Mandy, he saw Mickey writing a postcard once and remembers the address, it’s for a small house under the L just around the corner from where he grew up. He barely remembers Mandy, but she remembers him. She tells him a little about Mickey’s past. About Terry abusing them and the things he did to her, about Mickey finding out and killing Terry, and disappearing.
Ian tells her a little about his relationship with Mickey, about how he doesn’t entirely understand it, doesn’t understand what Mickey’s thinking sometimes (most times). Mandy says something about Mickey caring, and what that means.
Ian starts looking for Mickey in hospitals, going through their online databases first before going to the hospitals their mark has been at, to look through the physical records. When he finds Mickey, he’s in a coma, admitted as a John Doe (what happens to John Does in comas? Do they keep them on life support? I think not, but Dogma is my only source lol). He busts Mickey out and gets help to enter Mickey’s subconscious. He’s never shared Mickey’s dreams before, and this is a comatose state (is he in limbo? Yeah, maybe skip the whole memory loss thing. So it should be a place that feels real, right, and that’s why it’s so difficult to leave? And maybe a hundred years in limbo is an hour in the real world, but how about time just not existing? Mal and Cob were in limbo for a really long time but didn’t change physically, Saito was in Limbo until he was an old man, was he just there longer, or did his perception of the world he was in alter the way he experienced the passing of time? So what if Mickey kinda gets stuck in this one passage of time? I’d want to include Yevgeny too, can I? Ugh I suck at AUs.)
(Imagine Cob still being in limbo at the end, just saying. And how does it work? Three levels of dream, and if you die in the third level you fall into limbo? Even if you’re in someone else’s dream?)
So I’m thinking that maybe Mickey’s stuck in limbo, and his limbo are these few good moments stuck on repeat, a little catatonic Buffy vibe? One is maybe, like, waking up with Ian (season 4 waking up) doing something with Mandy, looking at Ian from across a room. And Ian goes through three levels of empty, abandoned, trashed dreams, the old house, an abandoned building, Ian’s apartment. And he has to persuade Mickey that he’s dreaming, and needs to wake up.
Guess he does, and they get together and ride into the sunset etc?
Or, stick with the old idea and go through the whole memory-loss bit and slow rehabilitation. I mean. You know you’re not above this trope, no reason to pretend.
The more I think about this idea, the more I am tempted to write something long and slow and a wee bit angsty. Might just be the current mood.
But Imagine like 100 000+ words of a third being detached hanky-panky in the workplace, a third of dreamsharing action, and a third of healing and growing together. Ugh. I mean. I want to read it, right now, so I guess that tells me something.
Look forward to this fic, in an archive near you, 2025.

My Spacer Shepards' parents actually sorta fleshed out
Jane's dad, John, is a very polarizing sort of guy. You either think he's hilarious or you want to strangle him. Sometimes his wife goes between the two with a bonus of "I'm going to punch you through a bulkhead."
He's a nuisance but very good at what he does and tends towards really bad jokes and harmless pranks, like sending new ensigns to get windshield wipers from the requisitions officer. Or answering comm hails with "Hello, (x), this is Manila, how may I direct your call?" Or annoying his co-pilot until she threatens to beat him with the flight manual.
His entire attitude outside of being a shit disturber is "if you think I'm cool, you obviously haven't met my wife. And my kid? She's outta sight."
His mother was a pilot who could fly almost anything she was put in front of the controls of, and learned to fly in an old-school prop plane. She flew bombers for the future USAF and then the fledgling Systems Alliance.
His father was a medic who started in the navy, on the actual ocean, renowned in the service for being calm under fire. John swears sometimes that he sees a bit of the old man in Jane when she's on her heroics.
His mother passed her love for flying onto her sons, John and Philip. John is in command of the flight deck of an Alliance cruiser (somehow) and Phil flew fighters out of Arcturus before the Reapers wrecked shit. They even have matching sound effect callsigns: "Clang" and "Crash", respectively.
Hannah we know a little bit more about, thanks games. Jane’s Hannah’s family is Canadian, with a military service history going back to the 20th century or earlier.
Her mother was a Royal Canadian Navy officer who retired before the First Contact War, but consulted on planning expeditions through the Charon relay. Tactically brilliant, she also had the people and command skills to go with it.
Her father was a former submariner who wound up crewing on some early Alliance frigates. (Guess who was pumped about his granddaughter being assigned to the freaking Normandy? Him).
Mr and future!Admiral Shepard met during officer candidate school. She blew him off as another hotshot flyboy at first (her mother had warned her about pilots), but he had it bad. Then they wound up on the same ship for six months, and he won her over while not even trying--because he was funny and could make her smile and didn’t push the issue, didn’t follow her around like a lost puppy. When they were posted to different places, she asked him to take her dancing, and it went from there.
Anna Shepard’s father, Gray, was born the youngest of four kids and the only boy, on earth, somewhere north of Saskatoon, to a farm family. If you’d asked him as an adult, he would’ve described himself as a “pain in the ass” of a kid, picking fights, causing trouble, bored to death with some little farm town.
His father, Ian, basically strong-armed his son into signing up for military service because “boy, you can shoot a can off a fence post at thirty paces and if you stay here, you’re gonna wind up in jail or dead--go on, get the hell outta here while you can.”
So he went. Basic training, infantry training, got pulled for officer candidate school based on aptitude scores and high performance. He had a reputation for being tough, tended to be blunt; not quite suited for more stars or a flag officer’s rank or politicking.
Anna’s version of Hannah, on the other hand: If there was still like an east coast elite, Hannah was born to it. A long family line of military service that might go back to 1776 or something--and well-heeled to boot.
Hannah (just like her mother, and like her daughter would be, later) was an Annapolis midshipman, class of 2144. She could have stayed on Earth, but she wanted to go to space. A bit of one-upmanship--she’s driven, highly competitive, has to be better--but more ‘what’s out there?’
She met her future husband, Gray, while they were sitting around hurry-up-and-waiting on an orbital station, and physical chemistry was off the damn charts.
Their daughter was a surprise, conceived just before Gray left on a two-year tour, within a year of the wedding. They hadn’t planned on kids, but decided to keep her.
Maybe it was because he was less career-focused, a bit less single-minded and could devote more energy to her, but tiny!Anna Shepard was absolutely daddy’s girl. He dug his heels in for her when he felt Hannah was asking too much, was being too hard on her, tried to make sure his kid didn’t feel pressured into signing up for military service, because it wasn’t fair.

Hii! Could you rec your fav meet cutes or diff first meeting aus?
Hi! Alternative first meetings is one of my favorite.. genres? Tags? Whatever :D We have a meet-ugly list where I love every fic! Also, I suggest going through this tag from Gallavich Week 2020 for meet-cute fics. And here are some of my favorite different first meeting AUs:
He Blinded Me with Science - Mickey's the new substitute teacher at Ian's school. Maybe they can both teach each other something.
Flyboy and the Gearhead - Ian is a space fighter pilot and Mickey is a mechanic who does the work for his spaceship.
do not wander - Ian and Mickey hook up in the backalley of a bar. Then again. It becomes a thing and maybe they have some future together.
