Chicago Beer Pass: Swifties
Tumblr media
youtube
Welcome to the Chicago Beer Pass: Your ticket to all the great beer events happening in and around Chicago.
On this episode of Chicago Beer Pass, Brad Chmielewski and Nik White are back behind the microphones to kick off 2025. On this episode, the guys have a Taylor Swift-inspired collaboration from the folks at Forbidden Root. Although Forbidden Root has a brewpub in Chicago, these were canned in Ohio, so they are somewhat local. As the guys knock back a couple of cans, they talk about the places they checked out recently and get up to speed with some rumors of who is closing and who might be opening.

Episode 538 - MoBAB 4: Barrels in Space
Our fourth installment of drinking more barrel-aged beers (MoBAB) at about the halfway point to FoBAB lifts off into orbit with four different styles aged in bourbon and whiskey barrels. Sipping these leads to talk about length of barrel stays, some cocktail inspirations, and the hopeful regular return of a once-mighty barrel program. Also, Ryan’s got an unexpected “kids in taprooms” take; we…

i love that raphael is so self absorbed tbh. i mean he just displays the most egregious case of narcissism you’ve ever seen. narcissism so bad he completely lacks any sense of self awareness & quite literally deludes himself with his own ridiculous fantasies of grandeur & power
it’s pathetic really… i’m so obsessed with him lmao. like genuinely what has him convinced he could usurp asmodeus if he had the crown of karsus. that shit was collecting dust in his daddy’s vault for centuries… mephistopheles is quite literally asmodeus’ biggest hater
he’s been plotting & scheming for millennia to overthrow him & he has failed miserably every single time. & im sorry i will acknowledge that raphael is very smart & powerful i mean he’s done enough to make his father send him a little spy/distraction unlike hes treated his other offspring
literally just devoured them bc he hated them lmao. so like yeah raphael is kinda an it girl, he’s got the 2nd most powerful devil of the hells keeping a little side eye on him just in case. but i still think he’s utterly insane if he thinks the crown of karsus is enough to make the hells bend to his knees. i do think it’d be enough for him overthrow zarial & become archdevil of the 1st (i could go on a whole side tangent about how that’s literally only bc mephistopheles wants that to happen bc now he controls 2 layers of hell, one by proxy or his son who quit frankly cannot deny him or else he be devoured. anyways what i was saying is dispater is old as fuck and has been there done that. i really don’t think crown of karsus raphael would be a threat to him at all. don’t even get me STARTED on mammon 💀
like alright sure let’s pretend he conquered the 1st and 2nd. i’m sorry but he’s not getting the 3rd lol. mammon is THAT BITCH and has been around since like fucking forever lol. he quite literally lets his team warlocks open portals to other archdevils domains to steal from them. that devil does not give a FUCKKKKKK 😭😭 he literally was like yeah what the fuck sure you can open a portal to mephistopheles’ vaults in cania so the dead three can steal from him idgaf he can send me a strongly worded email if he has a problem with it 🙄
side note, literally so fucking funny that durge and gortash pulled that shit off bc helsik is literally like yeah sorry homie i actually can’t get you into the 8th layer anymore bc they tightened up security after getting robbed blind 😔

Started reading both Sacha Lamb's "The Forbidden Book" and another installment in Ben Aaronovitch's Rivers of London series, ("The Masquerades of Spring") yesterday and can I just say that it is so incredibly refreshing to read queer books written by authors who actually care about history.

The potion mechanic is a mechanic that was actually slightly changed between Zero Dawn and Forbidden West. While there are some major changes, most notably the amount that can be held at a time, and the variety of potions between both games, what I wanted to talk about was the means of obtaining potions to deal with elemental afflictions.
In Zero Dawn, the player has to use plants to make potions that boost Aloy’s resistance to certain elements. For example, in order we have the Corruption Glaze Root, the Freeze Rime Root, and the Fire Kiln Root. (Not pictured is the Shock Wax Root.)
This is the Corruption Glaze Root. It’s used to make antidotes, which are potions to help resist corruption damage. This plant is commonly found close to the water.
Tumblr media
This is the Freeze Rime Root. It’s used to make resist freeze potions. This plant can be found commonly in Carja territories and snowy areas.
Tumblr media
This is the Fire Kiln Root. It’s used to make resist fire potions. It’s often found in warmer regions.
Tumblr media
What’s interesting is that these plants do not show up in Forbidden West. This particular branch of the potion mechanic seems to have been replaced by the Cleanse potion, which is used to clear all elemental status effects. I can understand the Corruption Glaze Root not being needed, as the west has to deal with the Blight, not Corruption. However I have the feeling that the most likely options are that either the plants just aren’t native to that region, or that the developers knew having this mechanic this fleshed out may be a little too complex alongside other mechanics that use plants in a similar manner.

I’M SO GLAD YOU’RE READING MAHOYAKU BECAUSE I KNEW IT WOULD CHANGE YOU FOREVER Honestly I think the things you love about Enstars and Idolish7’s writing are baked directly into Mahoyaku and I was hoping you’d give it more of a chance. It is SO incredible
Im sooo normaaaal about itttt *insert the distressed charlie kelly pepe silvia meme* and i knew i was going to love it for years ive been looking at out of context quotes and stuff but i wasnt able to focus on really giving the story the attention it deserves before. I dont particularly have time now either, i dont know why the stars aligned like this, but im having so much fun i dont even mind...

you know it’s weird how pokemon villainous teams have simultaneously gotten more outlandish, less serious, and further distanced from the actual villain
for example the OGs were basically the mafia and their leader was, fittingly, a crime lord
then the next team were essentially an environmental extremist group with a cursory knowledge of thermodynamics at best pitted against a slightly less extreme and less stupid environmental group and the leader was one and the same
fast forward to sword and shield and the evil team is an astroturf movement started by a league official because he wants to see his little sister succeed by any means necessary while the villain is an overly ambitious andrius wannabe with tunnel vision
then you skip another generation to the present and the “evil” team is a gaggle of mistreated LGBT+ students fighting back against the people bullying them and the real villain is pretty much fucking spamton NEO

what's your favorite ship and why? Not limited to any particular fandom
hi! thank you for the ask :)
at any given point in time I usually have a few different favourite ships at once, so I'll give you the most relevant ones from right now:
Beta/Milu: because they're baby and cute and deserve happiness, and Milu seems like the best match for Beta. and I really want Beta to be happy and enjoy life after everything she's been through. plus Beta could definitely help Milu with some science related to helping the Utaru, I'm sure.
Ikrie/Yarra: because I thought about it for two seconds once, and mentioned it to @tjerra14 and was met with nothing but support, so now there's two story ideas floating around.
with this one I'll explain more thoroughly (bc I talked about Beta/Milu a little more recently). thing is.. there's no way in hell Ikrie would have stayed in The Cut considering even Aratak made the journey. so I hc her being at the final battle in HZD and then moving West with Talanah and Milu, and possibly making her way across the mountain bc she's Ikrie and mountains are where she grew up, so the invisible plot barrier would not keep her out of Tenakth territory if she thought Aloy might have come through.
tjerra and I hc her then making her journey towards Scalding Spear and stumbling upon Meat in the clasps of a certain group of Rebel Bandits and saving Meat, but not getting away unscathed, and Yarra then being alerted to her presence. ANYWAY all that to give the setup. (the other story idea involved a lot more birds and puns)
the reason I think they would be well matched is that Yarra is just as dedicated to her people's ways as Mailen was, which is sth Ikrie could certainly understand, but we see later on that she is also willing to change and admit when her ways may cause more harm than good, so: matched in ferocity, bonding over Yarra's pet companion and just overall a fun dynamic imho. I JUST THINK THEY'RE NEAT
Nanno/Yuri: would be my third fave atm, mostly bc the whole enemies to lovers dynamic can be fun, especially where the supernatural is involved. and I love a good you kill me I kill you back dynamic every now and then. so there's that
