Gabi's childhood was great. She was raised by her loving parents, supported by her coven, the world was her oyster. She grew into a healthy and well rounded young woman, however there was one thing that had not been noticed. A group of hunters had been circling for many months, watching and waiting for an opportunity to strike. They did not care that the coven did not harm people, they lived in peace but apparently that didn't matter to the hunters. Instead, they simply saw them as a target. So when the group of witches and warlocks were gathered in one place to celebrate Gabi's 18th birthday, it seemed that was the perfect moment.

The hunters made their move, attacking the coven and burning the place to the ground. Gabi's mother, Julienne, was killed instantly while trying to protect the others. Her father grabbed Gabi and the two ran, escaping the initial attack and running into the woods. They were followed however, and while protecting his daughter from the armed hunter, Alexander suffered a fatal blow. Gabi quickly ended the hunter's life, but it was too late. Gabi held her father as he took his final breath in her arms, and it was from that moment that her life turned very different.

The only survivor of that night, Gabi made it her mission to hunt down and kill every human involved in the slaughter of her coven, but it did not stop there. As she took their lives, draining them of their souls, the young witch began to feel more powerful than ever before. She gave in to the seduction of her darker powers and fell beyond reach, isolating herself from the world and taking life without a second thought.

Quinlan Alexander Lennox had it all: a stupid name, impressive magical talent, a fulfilling job as a teacher for the arcane arts, and a perfect little family of his own. From the second he first held his daughter in his arms, he knew he'd do anything to protect her. He loved her, and he loved his wife, though he realised he couldn't love her the way she deserved. When he came out as homosexual he was met with overwhelming support and though they had separated as a couple they managed to remain good friends.

Years later when a terrible evil force threatened to deal out destruction to mankind, Quinn honoured his promise to protect those he loved and conducted a banishing ritual. It costs Quinn all his magic to contain the evil, and he has to relearn a lot of things the non-magic way, but it is a sacrifice he's willing to make for the greater good. Now he's working as a groundskeeper, guarding the cemetery and the evil that lies imprisoned underneath.

Post #60: NM issues 26-28

After 2 years of foreshadowing, we're finally getting our introduction to Xavier's son, David Haller, in the Legion story arc. It opens on Muir Island with Tom and Sharon, the people that Demon Bear enslaved and then turned into Native Americans. Again, this is a very strange storyline and really would not fly today, but at the very least I'm eternally thankful that the transformation didn't change their personalities to be obsessed with tribe honor or something, which has been a very frequent issue with Claremont's Native Americans. They're discussing how their lives have changed; Sharon is still mourning her old life, but Tom is excited by the borderline superhuman physiques that the Demon Bear also gave them. They see a strange astral projection of a young man and then an alarm sounds and there's a telekinetic storm. They find the source is in David's room. He's flailing around screaming for help, apparently completely out of control, until he starts grinning and laughing in a completely different voice. Cut to the next morning, where the Blackbird arrives with Sean, Xavier, Dani, Rahne, Doug, and Warlock. Moira is overjoyed to see Sean alive again after the events of the last Uncanny storyline. When Rahne sees her greet him first, she begins to cry, assuming her mother has abandoned her, but Moira comes up and hugs her. It's sad to see Rahne hate herself so much that she assumes her own mother would forget about her, and I'm glad Moira is being supportive and loving. We really don't see a lot of their relationship, but whenever we do it's a lovely side of Moira and a great moment for Rahne. Meanwhile, Dani and Doug watch in astonishment as Warlock attempts to flirt with the Blackbird. Doug tells Dani how excited he is to be a New Mutant and live in the world of superheroes. Doug hasn't really been strongly defined as a person yet, but we're starting to get an idea of him as an outgoing people person who can also be a bit of an awkward nerd. Unlike the rest of the team, he's always had a stable life and has yet to develop any sort of tragic backstory, and the brutal realities of life as a superhero haven't sunken in yet. Moira finally gets to the reason she called- an explosion occured last night that leveled a building and apparently wiped the minds of Tom and Sharon, leaving them as vegetables. Xavier is shocked to see Gaby Haller, his old therapy patient/lover (in case you forgot he's kinda a creep) who's now an Israeli ambassador. She tells him that her son, David, is schizophrenic (he actually has DID, but at the time people, including Claremont, referred to having multiple personalities as schizophrenia) and withdrew from reality when he was ten, but she doesn't tell him that he's Xavier's son. Meanwhile, at the Massachusetts Academy, Emma yells at Empath for how he treated Firestar and telepathically turns off his powers as punishment. Emma is still kinda a conundrum. Under Claremont's pen, she's basically completely evil, and the Hellions are tools she uses in her grand plans. But at the same time, it sometimes seems like she truly cares about to kids under her care. With a few exceptions, most notably Magneto, Claremont prefers to make his villains reflections of the worst parts of his heroes rather than morally complex people in their own right, so he would probably say she doesn't care about them. She's one of the characters who I think gets noticably more interesting when Claremont leaves and she starts her redemption arc, but that redemption is built on the idea that she always cared for her children on some level. When you read these old stories in retrospect, keeping in mind where she ends up adds a interesting new dimension to Emma's character, even if Claremont didn't have that in mind. I also have a lot more thoughts on Empath, but I'll save those for later. Back to our main cast: while Xavier talks to Gaby, the kids go to the nearby town to hang out. Warlock eats a bird, and Dani is upset with him for risking their cover in public. Warlock's another character who hasn't gotten much panel time yet, although he's more defined than Doug. He's naive like Doug, but he's also been through as much horror as any of them. Usually with a tragic backstory like Warlock's, the character end up distrustful of everyone they meet. But when Warlock met the New Mutants and the my weren't like his father, he assumed they must be the exact opposite and trusts them completely. His main challenges as a person will be learning about the shades of grey that exist between happiness and torment. The idea of an alien with the mutant ability to feel compassion is such an interesting one for the book to tackle. The New Mutants run into Reverend Craig, the man who raised Rahne and then tried to kill her. She's legally under Moira's protection, so he can't attack her but heells at her for being the spawn of Satan and she doesn't fight back, just bows her head and leaves, asking her friends to let it go. Back on the island, Xavier tries to enter David's mind and help him the way he did Gaby 20 years ago. Like his mother, David has a wall around his psyche, but unlike his mother, an astral form comes out to meet Xavier. It doesn't look like David, but a young Arabic man, the same one Tom and Sharon saw, who seems to be about to communicate Suddenly Xavier hears laughing and is blasted out of the room, both psychically and physically. Thousands of miles away, Lee wakes up to find Magneto having a nightmare and shaking the island. She wakes him up before he hurts himself and he thanks her and they start kissing. Back on the island, Xavier talks to Gaby, and says he was wrong to start a relationship with her all those years ago. He's absolutely right and I'm glad that at the very least he recognizes it. She begins to tell him about the trauma that sent David into his shell, but we don't get to see that because we cut away to Rahne. Seeing Craig again has just made her self doubt and hatred even worse, and she goes to Moria to ask for guidance. She begins to offer it when the astral form of the mysterious man appears and tells them to flee just before an explosion decimates the building.

Xavier finds Rahne and Moira in the same state as Tom and Sharon- physically fine but with no psyche, similar to people who Anna uses her powers on. Notably, Rahne is still in werewolf form, even though knocking her out usually makes her revert to human. Xavier realizes that David had several powers and each seems to be linked to a different personality. He believes that the catatonic people may have had their psyches absorbed, so Dani volunteers to try to follow her mindlink with Rahne. Xavier accompanies her astral form, but it's a trap, and both of their minds, along with Gaby's and Doug's, are pulled into David's head. Warlock is spared because his alien brain works differently, but without his friends he quickly falls into a pit of despair. Xavier, still weakened from his mugging, is struggling to defend himself and his friends from the battle he's fighting inside David's mind. Although David's wall wraps around threatens to crush them, Xavier finds the strength to tear a hole in. Through it, the heroes see a whole city in David's mind, and Dani senses Rahne's presence in it. David appears and cries out for Xavier to help him. He's ready Gaby's thoughts and calls Xavier father, which shocks him and makes him lose his grip on Doug and Gaby, who are pulled into the psychic storm. Xavier sees three giant heads in the sky. One of them is a man who says the dilemma can't be helped and introduced them as Legion. The second is the guy who's been astral projecting, who tries to warn Xavier he's in danger. The third is a younger girl who says he should give up, and it'll be nice to have new personalities stuck in the mind. Off to the side, he sees the true David, a tiny child begging his father to save him. Xavier could flee and save himself and Dani, but he can't abandon the son he just discovered, so he flies into the storm towards the city. It's a combination of Paris and Beirut, filled with war and people screaming in agony. It seems to be a combination of David's childhood in Paris and the memories of the one helpful alternate personality, with both of their worst experiences magnified into a hellscape. Horrified at the thought of David growing up in this mental reality, he tries to figure out where to start searching. First, he mindscans for all his friends and students that were pulled into this city. Dani, Doug, and Gaby are together, and so are Rahne and Moira. Both groups are fighting for their lives against the monstrous tanks and planes that are attacking the city. Dani tells him they'll find each other and Tom and Sharon while Xavier goes to put an end to the chaos. He sees the guy who's been astral projecting, who runs off as Xavier is hit by a strafing plane. He's saved by the telekinetic personality, a charming adventurer named Jack Wayne. He says that the other guy is the telepathic personality, and he's imprisoned David in a giant done and is feeding him these nightmares to make them a reality. The telepath isn't a natural personality, he's an invader into the mind, and Jack and Xavier set off to take him down. Elsewhere, the telepath approaches Dani, Doug, and Gaby, who tries to attack him, saying he's a terrorist who killed David's godfather and tried to kill him. Rahne and Moira find Cyndi, the pyrokinetic personality, who helps them save the others from a group of demonic soldiers. Gaby and Moira figure out the truth, which Cyndi confirms: when the terrorist tried to kill David as a child, David's powers manifested and killed him, bringing his consciousness into his own mind. The invading personality ended up in control of David's natural telepathy. Jack tells Xavier the only way to save David is to kill the other personality, and Xavier takes the knife Jack offers and prepares to enter the dome and end things.

The team catches up with the duo as they try to climb the mountain to the dome at the top, where they'll find David. Although Xavier loves Jack, who reminds him of his own fantasies as a child, Dani and Rahne don't trust him. Across the ocean, Lee and Magneto have been living together on the island for a few weeks now, but she can't stop thinking of all the things he's done in the past. She tells him she can't forgive or trust him, and that their relationship is over. Magneto is reminded of his first wife Magda, who ran in terror when he uses his powers for the first time and never saw him again. He tells Lee he's changing as a person, and he needs her help, but she refuses to take his hand and he walks away, heartbroken. Back in the brain, our heroes are approaching the peak of the mountain. Cyndi has been flirting with Doug the whole journey, which is creepy but also kinda funny. When they reach the peak, they find the invading personality, who we finally learn is named Jemail Karami. They attack him, and the whole mountain disappears, revealed to be an illusion all along. Jemail flees into the wall of the dome of darkness, but that's also an illusion, and the group follows him in. They find a room full of floating crystals with images of memories, and Xavier says this is David's soul. Each crystal represents a memory or another small part of what adds together to form David the person. Some of the crystals are shattered, which Jack says is Jemail's doing. But Xavier says that these bits were shattered during David's original trauma, and some of them have been repaired by Jemail. Suddenly, another cluster of crystals comes flying out of the darkness with Jemail flailing at it's center and crashes into everyone, wounding Cyndi. As memories fly everywhere, Gaby finds herself face to face with the day David's godfather Daniel was murdered and David merged minds with all the terrorists and then killed them. The trauma was what sent David back into his own mind, accidentally pulling one of his victims in with him. Gaby tries to kill Jemail, but Xavier has a change of heart and stops her, saying nobody else dies. Jack chooses that moment to reveal his treachery and attack. Before Xavier can react, he's hit with an external psychic wave that puts him into a coma within his coma. For some reason, the book cuts away from the climax for half a page to give a scene of Empath. He tells a mysterious woman who represents "the Gladiators" that the New Mutants would be perfect combatants for her arena. Back at the soul battle, Dani summons Jack's greatest fear, a healthy young David living with Xavier as a loving father. It sends Jack catatonic, and Dani then moves over to Jemail. He was knocked unconscious, but she wakes him up by nudging the good memories in his head. He wakes up and reads Doug's mind, finally giving himself the ability to speak English and communicate with Dani. He explains the story: when he was first pulled into David's mind, he hated the boy, but when he read his mind, he saw what a gentle and kind soul he was. It was an epiphany that led him to decide to undo the damage he did and fix David's broken psyche. The task became increasingly difficult as Jack and Cyndi manifested and began to fight him, knowing that if he succeeded they would cease to exist. He had almost finished with the repairs when Jack smashed the two crystal clusters together, undoing all his work. He says that now that David's powers have manifested in the real world, he has no time to start over, and must take permanent control to avoid collateral damage, but Dani has another plan. She wakes up Jack and, by threatening him with another taste of her powers, coerces him to help Jemail. When Xavier wakes up two weeks later, he hears this whole story. He commends Dani on her heroism and leadership in saving everyone, including Tom and Sharon, who Jemail had been taking care of. Xavier goes to see David. To his surprise, David switches rapidly between the angry voices of Jack and Cyndi and Jemail, who apologizes tells him that Jack manipulated the process so that they would all share control with David.  When control reverts to David, Xavier hugs him and swears he'll never leave again. He tells Gaby that David may never be fully healed, but he'll never stop trying to help him. Privately, he wonders if it's worth it, because the weird external psychic blast he felt earlier was the return of the Beyonder.

I've always loved David, but I haven't read much stuff with him. This was my first time reading his origin story, and it did not disappoint. This might be X-Men art at its peak, with Sienkiewicz going absolutely insane on the hellscape of David's mind. It's perfectly paced, except for the weird thing at the end where it cut to Empath for like four panels, the mysteries and twists are all masterfully set up, and instead of fading into the background during the climax, Dani gets to be the MVP of the ending for the first time in a while. As for David himself, he's one of the best characters this book has introduced since the initial roster. His main personality doesn't show up much, but through Jack and Cyndi we get insight into his subconscious. Jack is the man he wanted to grow up to be, a swaggering adventurer who can defend himself from any attack. But beneath the surface, he's actually the asshole David could have become if he'd grown up with all his power but no moral guidance. He wants control, and is willing to sacrifice anyone to get it. Cyndi has less panel time, but I think is even more interesting. She's David's most cynical side, a child who lashes out with fire to destroy things that threaten her. She's the part of David that feels abandoned by his parents and can't trust anyone. I might be reading into this part too much, but I think her crush on Doug reflects how she really just wants to be understood. This is probably even more reading too far in, but I think Jemail kinda parallels Magneto. He attacked David for being Israeli, but when he failed to kill him he was forced to confront David's innocence and the monster that he had become, kinda similar to Magneto and Kitty in issue 150, although with some of the motivations different. Jemail decides redeem himself by helping David grow and keep his other selves in check, and Magneto will soon find redemption in teaching the New Mutants. David's dominant personality doesn't really appear until the very end, but he'll return in future stories and get a lot of development himself. I don't know if I'd rate this story or Demon Bear higher, but this is definitely in the top two that the series has had so far, and is overall one of my favorite stories in the X-canon.

Eren - Fury Warrior (Human, worgen)

Has 2 mains, human and worgen. Eren thinks human is the superior race even though everyone knows is the most boring. He's the typical alliance player that rages at you. "You horde scum" Not so good at first. Gets better at playing with time. Always in war mode.

Mikasa - Arms Warrior (Human)

Top dps and she's really good at pvp. Overall a natural good player. Eren always asks her do to duels and she always kicks his ass. Not interested at anything, just wants to play with Eren. Does RBGs with him.

Armin - Frost Mage (Human, Female Draenei)

Big nerd that knows all the lore and is pretty much always raid leader, he's really nice when players don't know the mechanics. Always trying to do achievements. Too scared to do pvp. Does freaky shit in rp moonguard.

Jean - Guardian Druid (Worgen)

Every worgen player i've met was a little bit of a simp im sorry. But Jean is genuinely a good guy, he just wanted to get a girlfriend when he was younger then grew out of it when older. Started as a feral until he realized being tank helps to queue faster in dungeons. It's raid leader when Armin can't make it. Main tank

Marco - Holy Priest (Draenei)

Think of the nicest player that ever helped you, that's Marco. He helps new players when they don't understand or get lost. Big patient fella, if you need gold he's gonna help you in that too. Top healer in raid. Sometimes switches to Shadow. Does random bgs with Jean just to have fun (doesn't like it much because it can get toxic)

Sasha - Marksmanship Hunter (Pandaren)

She used to be those hunters who ruined your day by tanking with her pet getting everyone wiped. But learned how to properly play and now she's top dps. She met Jean when he was tanking with his bear and raged at her in the whispers. They are besties now <3 Loves doing cooking proffesion, that's how she met Niccolo.

Connie - Enhancement Shaman (Dwarf)

He think dwarves are a funny looking race that's why he chosed them. Average player who just wants to have fun. Regardless of what he's doing pvp of pve he never rages. As a shaman he let's the elemental pets do all the work and gets overconfident, the reason why he loses. Fools around a lot with Sasha

Reiner - Protection Warrior (Orc)

Used to be Worgen and be part of the same guild as the rest but changed to Horde because of race benefit (everyone does that nowadays) He only did it because his friends did, so he feels sad about it. His new guild is called Marley. Top and main tank of the raid. Still talks with his past guild but Eren is pissed at him for leaving the Alliance and always attacks him when he has the chance.

Bertholdt - Fire Mage (Troll)

He likes trolls because they are tall and chill, just like him. Same story with Reiner. Being a Fire mage pretty much makes him top dps and someone you don't want to fuck with. He could be one of the best pvp players but prefers to keep it low and have fun. Does R Arenas with Reiner.

Annie - Windwalker Monk (Blood elf)

Same story with Bert and Reiner. She's one of the best pvp players, and does R.Arenas. A lone player, when not doing pvp she works in her proffesions and enjoys the beauty of WoW. Her dad showed her the game when she was young. Reiner and Bert asks her to do stuff together but she rejects them. Likes the company of Armin or Bertholdt alone.

Historia - Discipline Priest (Voild elf, Vulpera)

She has 2 mains. Void elf to be with her guild, and Vulpera to be with Ymir. She's always nice and helping other players but most of the time she wants to do achievements with Ymir and do holiday events. Has the BEST transmogs of them all. And pretty mounts.

Ymir - Affliction Warlock (Nightborne)

Amazing pvp player, but not a big fan of it. Specially because it can get really annoying and childish. At first she carried Hisu in dungeons because she was a "noob" giving her advice on how to properly play. Ymir when really bored likes to troll others and sometimes camp them until Historia tells her is enough.

Levi - Assassination Rogue (Gnome)

Known as one of the best players in WoW. Big fanbase. Kenny, his uncle, teached him since he was a kid to play the game and ever since then he mastered it. He chosed Gnome as his main because even though gnomes are always the butt of the jokes he thinks getting your ass kicked by one is satisfying. Used to play with his two friends until they quit the game, then had his own guild and they also quit the game. So he feels nostalgic sometimes.

Hange - Beast Mastery Hunter (Night elf)

Geek. Knows all about lore but also is really good at being BM hunter. You just can't escape their traps ;). Big big fan of WoW, you are not sure how long have they been playing this game. Never misses Blizzcon events. They are always with Moblit who remindes them to take a break from the game and go have some rest. They have a lot of rare objects and mounts. Likes to hang around with Levi.

Erwin - Retribution Paladin (Human)

Do I even have to say something? He's a human paladin. Guild Master of Survey Corps, used to be really active when younger but as he got older doesn't appear much. He did a lot of pvp, one of the best. Was raid leader along with Mike and Nile. Just like Eren he believes in the Alliance and knows a lot about lore. Ask him anything.

Porco - Feral Druid (Zandalari troll)

He thinks zandalari are the coolest race blizz has ever thought of. He's an average good player. Played a lot with his brother Marcel. Until the later quit the game to focus on other stuff. Used to make fun of Reiner for being bad at it, but now they play mythics+ together.

Pieck - Guardian Druid (Tauren)

Average good player, she's calm and trust her teammates in raids even when things might not look so good. Second tank. Loves being a druid because she can carry her party members in deer and bird form. At some point she met Jean and exchanged tips

Zeke - Elemental Shaman (Pandaren)

He's that player that frustrated you so much you wanted to throw your computer at the floor because he wasn't doing the mechanics right or in bgs. And you know he's doing it on purpose. That troll motherfucker that ganks you even when hours passes and you wonder why people like him exist. Has a monkey pet named as "Monke" that he takes everywhere. Has macros where he says weird shit before you kill him. But he's actually a really good player when serious. Raid leader of his guild. If there's one player Zeke won't fuck with, is Levi.

Falco - Restoration Druid (Tauren)

He and Gabi are new players but learn fast, Falco likes to enjoy the game slowly appreciating the stories, characters, and overall have a good time with his friends. Ends up stressed healing Gabi's ass since she keeps tanking without a care. Tells her she should listen to Reiner's advice as a tank.

Gabi - Protection Warrior (Orc)

She saw the way Reiner played and wanted to be just like him. Gabi levels up really fast with war mode and dungeons. Problems comes she lacks experience so she needs Falco by her side healing her. Eren once saw her in war mode not giving a crap she was a low level and ganked her.

Floch - Unholy Death Knight (Human)

Level 58 DK. That dude that all he does is complain in the chat. In bgs he shits at everyone for not doing their job while he has low dps. In trade chat you are always gonna see him having a discussion about how the game is dead, everything sucks, back in the day "when classic was good". Always joins Eren's RBGs.

Teenager Carstairs (Part 1)

Sophie ran down the stairs, jumped from the third step and landed with a resounding thud on the hardwood floors. She was so excited she felt like she was vibrating with it. “Are they here?” She yelled, announcing her presence to her father who glanced up from the new coffee maker on the counter.

“No Soph, they’ll be here soon.” Jem said with a warm smile and then looked back down at the coffee pot, “Maybe Kit can tell me how it works.” He muttered, pressing a few buttons and then turning his back on it.

“Let me help you.” Sophie said, walking towards the pot and pressing the on button and then sliding the touch screen up until she found a latte, pressed the button for one sugar and then turned back to her father who was shaking his head.

“Curse that boy for giving this to Tessa and I on our seventeenth anniversary.” He mumbled, then kissed the top of Sophie’s head in thanks. She wondered if sixteen was too old for head kisses, but she didn’t think so.

“It said ‘easy to use’ on the box.” A familiar voice said and Sophie whirled around to see her brother and his husband standing in the doorway.

“Kit!” She cried and ran at him. He caught her easily and spun around the kitchen with her, she couldn’t  help the childish giggle that escaped her, he’d been doing it for as long as she could remember. When he set her back on the floor she hugged him for a moment longer before letting go.

“Happy birthday Lady Bug,” He said and ruffled her hair. That, she decided, she was too old for and it was rewarded with a scowl that she couldn’t keep for very long as he smiled down at her. “You’re getting so old.” He mock groaned and she laughed.

“You’re thirty one! You’re getting old.” She teased back and he shuddered.

“Never say that again.” He said and winked before turning to Jem to say hello. She turned to Ty who was leaning against the door and looking out of the window.

“Hey Ty,” She said and he inclined his head towards her, “Did you have a good trip?” She asked. Kit and Ty lived in LA, but they had been travelling around Europe for close to a year, by mundane means of transportation. She knew Kit would prefer to portal easily from place to place, but Ty was fascinated by planes and trains and ever since Kit had taught him to drive when they had been twenty, Ty liked to drive.

“It was fun; the European country side is very different to LA.” He said and Sophie wondered if he knew he was stating the obvious.

“So,” Kit said, drawing her attention, “How’s training going?” He asked. Sophie was two years away now from being a fully trained Shadowhunter now, and every moment counted. Jem was her Shadowhunter trainer, Tessa was her warlock power trainer, and she went to the Cornwall Institute three days a week of languages and history with some of the other next generation Shadowhunters.

“I’m not the top of the class,” She said carefully, “But I’m doing really well with Latin!” She added and he grinned, pride beaming out of him.

“That’s my girl.”

“Mum has been helping me summon big things too, but she still won’t let me summon a demon.” She complained. Unlike her older brother and sister who had passed away the previous century, Sophie didn’t have a ‘specific’ ability, but she did have your general run of the mill warlock powers. Except, instead of a shade of blue fire, hers was pink and nobody knew why. Kit laughed at her complaining about not being able to summon a demon and shook his head.

“I should hope not.” He said, “Where is mom anyway?”

“She’s up in the twins’ room.” Jem explained and Sophie nodded in confirmation. Her younger brother and sister, Charlie and Gabi, had been arguing as she ran down the stairs a little while ago and Tessa had hurried in to sort out their problem. It was one of the reasons she had run down in the first place. Gabi and Charlie were twelve and had only been one when Kit moved out and didn’t quite remember him as the devoted big brother that she did, which is why they hadn’t come running downstairs at the sound of his voice.

“I’ll be right back.” He said and squeezed past Ty who followed him up the stairs. Sophie sat down at the kitchen table across from her dad who finally had a cup of coffee.

Before dinner, Kit found Sophie in the living room and gestured for her to follow him outside into the backyard. It was dark; she could only just see the outline around him, silhouetted by moon. She stood next to him and waited for him to speak, but when he didn’t she nudged him. Kit put an arm out and she nestled into his side like she had since she was really young. “You know,” He said, “I remember when you were just learning to walk and I brought you out here. You waddled around and I sat on the steps watching. You fell down and cried so hard and I panicked. I actually thought you were in grave danger you were crying that hard.” He said and she laughed.

“Sorry I frightened you.” She said and he shook is head.

“That was the first time I realised you had been born into a dangerous life. I thought then that if you could hurt yourself falling on your ass on grass, what on earth was going to happen when you started training to be a Shadowhunter.” He said and Sophie could hear the emotion in his voice, raw and honest as he struggled to find the right words. “You were so small, and you were so vulnerable. I had always vowed to protect you and care for you and be there to watch you grow up.” He said and she wrapped her arms around his waist.

“You’ve always been the best brother.” She said and he smiled down at her, she could see how much it meant to him to hear that.

“Do you remember when I moved out with Ty?” He asked and she nodded. She had been five years old and when he had told her he was leaving for a while she had cried so hard she threw up. When he was leaving she told him she hated him, and some part of her will always regret that.

“That was the first and only time you said you hated me,” He continued, “And it broke my heart. I vowed again that I would make it up to you.”

“I didn’t mean it, when I said it.” She said and he squeezed her gently.

“I know that Lady Bug.” He reassured her, “But I realised the other day that I never have made it up to you, me leaving.”

“Kit you have more than made up for it. You will always be my big brother.” She said and he shook his head.

“I was wondering if you would like to come stay with Ty and I for a little while?”  He asked and her mouth dropped open. “We have a second bedroom in our apartment, and you can finish your training at the LA Institute with Helen and Aline’s daughters, and even though Livvy and Arthur are a bit younger they are training there too seeing as though their mom and dad are the tutors.” He said.

“You want me to move in with you?” She asked.

“I spoke to mom and dad already, and they said if you want to then you are welcome too even though they would miss you.” He said.

“Would Gabi and Charlie be coming too?” She asked and he shook his head.

“No, just you.” He said and looked down at her then, “I know you’d miss them all, trust me I know how that feels. But if you wanted to come back to LA even on a trial period you are more than welcome.”

“Yes.” She said without thinking, “I want to come to LA. Is Ty okay with it?” She asked and he ruffled her hair.

“Honestly it was his idea. When I told him how I hadn’t made it up to you, and how I had once promised to protect you and I have spent eleven years in a different country… He said that if you moved in to our spare room and trained at the institute then it might be a way to make things right. To keep my promise. I figured, if you wanted to, it would be a good idea.” He confirmed. Sophie’s smile was growing, she felt like she was glowing. She loved her parents and little siblings so much, but she missed Kit every day and the idea of finishing her training at an institute, with the Penhallow girls and Blackthorn children no less, she couldn’t explain the excitement. Both her mum, dad and Kit himself had spent their late teen years in an institute and even though she would be living nearby and not in the LA institute, she felt it would be only fair to finish her training there.

“Will mum still be training me with my powers?” She asked and Kit shrugged.

“She can if you want, or Max might be able to. He’s just moved to LA with his girlfriend.” Kit explained. Max Lightwood-Bane was a nineteen year old navy blue warlock who, last she had checked, lived in New York with his dads and brother.

“Could you help me?” She asked and he looked surprised.

“I’m not a warlock, our powers are different.” He said.

“Mum is a warlock and she helped you with yours, maybe it is time for the roles to be reversed.” She mused. He smirked and he let go of her shoulders and aimed his palm up. He shot two thin beams of light into the air and they exploded like silent fireworks above their heads and rained down on them painlessly, glittering brilliantly in the dark.

“I can try, if you want me to.” He said and she nodded, “Okay then.” He agreed, putting his arm around her again.

“When do we leave?” She asked and he grinned.

“Eager as ever,” He observed, “In a couple of days. Ty wants to ride the train to London and visit the institute then we will come back and get you. That way you have time to pack and the like.” He explained. She nodded, relieved she had time to be with her family for a couple of days before leaving.

“Say hey to Jessamine for me.” She said, remembering some of the stories Kit had told her when she was younger.  He laughed, the rumbling in his chest familiar to her.

“Of course,” He said and then released her. She let go and looked up at him, “Ready for dinner?” He asked and she realised how hungry she was.

“Yes absolutely.” She confirmed and he made to move, but a thought occurred to her and she stopped him with her hand on his arm.

“You okay?” He asked immediately and she nodded, feeling a little self-conscious.

“Can I bring Penny?” She whispered, thinking of the stuffed penguin she had had since she was born. The one that Kit had bought for her and apparently learned how to look after her with. He laughed then, surprised and amused.

“Of course, I would have expected you too. Poor old girl deserves a holiday.” He said and drew her along after him up to the house to dinner.

Nagdecide ako na siguro oras na para iwan ko ang mundo ng ROM. Unti-unti na kasi noon na lumiliit ang numbers ng mga player nito.

Sinubukan ko. Pero ng mga panahon na yun, hindi ko pa kaya. Hindi ko kayang iwanan yung mga kalaro ko, na tinuring ko rin naman na kaibigan. Kaya tuloy ang pagro-ROM.

Maliit lang ang guild namin. We consist of 11 members na lang noon last September 2019, the rest puro mga alts na namin ang ibang member ng guild.

As months passed by, lalong lumiliit ang active members namin..

Unti-unti silang nagsipag-alisan. What I mean is, hindi sila umalis ng guild. Nagsipag-quit sila. Hanggang we're down to 3.

The guild leader, ako at isa pang member.

Last two weeks ago, wala na rin si guild leader namin.

Kaya nitong March 2020, tinigilan ko na talaga maglaro. Sinabayan ko si guild leader sa pag-quit.

Wala na rin kasing saysay.

Bakit ko nasabi? I have seven reasons.

Una, free-to-play player ako since day 1. Kung lilipat ako ng guild, maliit ang chances ko na makapasok sa isang guild na puro malala-cash. Most of active gamer as of this date kasi eh yung may pang recharge sa game. Kahit isang taon mahigit ko na nilalaro ang ROM, hinding hindi ko mapapantayan yung mga players na nagspend talaga ng pera para lumakas sila. Imagine, 8k raw MATK lang ako. What more sila na 15k pataas because they spend a lot of money. Eh ako, I never spend even a single cent kasi hindi naman ako nag-iisa sa buhay. I have a family to feed. That's why I don't spend for the game.

Kung tutuusin, kaya ng F2P lumakas kahit walang gacha. Kung mayroon kang mabilis na computer at kaya mag run ng 5 account sa isang pc. You know, generate zeny by using dummy accounts. You can buy anything you want sa exchange and unlock all non-gacha items sa adventure handbook. Ang kaso, mobile lang ang gamit ko, so it's not ideal.

Pangalawa, I loved my guild. Wala na kong ibang guild na gustong samahan at salihan. Periodt. Loyal to eh.

Pangatlo, madaming madudugas sa ROM para lumakas. Yung third party apps na never nawala. MVP hunt all the way ng walang kahirap-hirap. At ang pinakamalaking bug sa kasaysayan ng ROM Eternal Love sa PVP - - yung Reindeer's gift using absolute field sa goblin forest map. Na-disappoint ako doon. Hindi dahil sa wala akong idea sa bug na iyon at hindi ko siya nasubukan. Pero maraming nag exploit even yung mga malalacash na. Madaming gift yun, actually nag run ng 2 months ang bug na yun. Ang dami nilang nakuhang gold badges doon na pang runes. So with that, ano pang laban ng isang F2P na kagaya ko sa malalacash na, madadaya pa. Hindi ba?

Pang-apat, marami ng nag-quit sa game. Yes, I witnessed kung paano unti-unting kumonti ang populasyon sa ROM. First few months kapag may event, super laaaaag talaga. Pinapatos ng mga player ang lahat ng event. Tipong hindi ka makalaro ng maayos sa dami ng players, hindi ka makapag-log in kaagad after ng maintenance sa dami ng nagla-log in sa game. Napakadaming tao sa mga maps kahit saan ka magpuntang map. Pinakamaraming tao eh nasa Prontera South Gate para mag-music for additional combat time. Maingay ang world chat lalo na kapag WOE na. Trashtalkan ang mga guild at malag ule. Hahahaha! Haaaaaay. Those were the days na napakasayang maglaro ng ROM. Kasi buhay na buhay ang ROM community kahit maraming bugs at lags. Siguro mula ng nag isang taon ang ROM sa SEA server, halos wala ng players. Kung mayroon man, mga dummy accounts na lang yun. Wala ka ng makikita na player sa mga lower level maps, sa South Gate kung noon, gabi na marami pa rin tao para mag-music, ngayon wala na. Pero may mga tao sa mga grinding maps sa kasing taas ng base level ko siyempre. Other than that, wala na.

Pang-lima, wala na yung interest/love ko sa game. Aaminin ko, naging daily routine ko ang ROM. Daig mo pa ang employed kapag naglaro ka ng ROM. Kasi you will be spending 8 hours pataas matapos mo lang ang lahat lahat ng daily activities ng game. Sa isang account lang yun ha. Habang tumatagal ang game, naging considerate naman ang mga devs na hindi dapat ganoon katagal ang playing time. Hanggang sa hinati nila ang gaming time. At hanggang sa inilabas nila ang paggamit ng Meteoric Chain na tatagal lang ang grind mo ng isa't kalahating oras. Kaya bago ako mag quit, halos 3 hours na lang ang tinatagal ko sa paglalaro ng ROM to meet all daily activities.

Pang-anim, the game is all about gambling. Walang kasiguraduhan kung saan mapunta yung ginastos mong pera. Makukuha mo ang item na binibili mo na para kang tumataya sa lotto. So kung mag spend ka ng pera sa game, wala silang paki kung makailang roll ka sa gacha. Basta kanila ang pera mo. Ganern.

At pang-pito, hindi mo na alam kung saan patungo ang laro. Ang aim to play is maging malakas yung character na ginawa mo. Lahat naman ata ng game, ganoon ang goal. Pero with all what you do in the game, you get the best equipments for the ideal set of your job. You can't determine kung malakas ka na nga bang talaga.

Kung sasabihin mo sa akin na sa PVP ko yun malalaman, eh wala rin kwenta. Wala naman kwenta ang PVP. Rambulan lang naman ang mga players doon. Kumbaga, upakan lang yun ng mga nagkakainitan sa laro. But still, PVP can't determine kung malakas at madiskarte ka bang talaga kasi walang rankings. Kahit monthly rankings sana at may category ang PVP kung sino makakalaban mo. Halimbawa, sa category ng mga malalacash ang monthly winner ay si ganito. Next sa category ng F2P ang monthly champion ay si ganito. Yung mga ganun ba.

Mas marami sigurong maeengganyo na maglaro at magtagal sa paglalaro kung may ganoon no.

May patournament nga ang mga streamers eh. Dapat nga devs ang gumagawa ng ganoong event. Para masabi na esports din ang paglalaro ng ROM.

Basta ang daily at monthly goal mo lang sa paglalaro mo sa ROM, magawa mo yung event, grind everyday, at bumili ng premium. Then repeat next month. Yun lang yung purpose.

Hanggang nawala na nga ang mga friends ko sa guild. Hanggang sa nagsawa na rin ako. Hanggang sa ayaw ko na mag ROM.

This is the game na ang tagal kong nilaro. Inabot ako ng mahigit isang taon. Ang mobile games kasi sa akin dati noong wala pang ROM, 2 months na yung most. Then sawa na ako. Minahal ko itong game na to. Sobra.

Kaso gahaman ang devs kaya hindi mo rin masisisi yung iba kaya kahit early game pa lang quit na sila.

Sana, kung magkakaroon man ng ibang version ang ROM, wala ng mandurugas at may rankings na. Para mayroon kang goal. Sana rin hindi na gahaman sa in-app purchases. Yung afford at hindi na parang russian roulette ang pagkuha ng gacha items. Kung ano gusto mo ipurchase, makukuha mo agad. Siguro kung ganun, marami magtatagal sa game. At kung may ilalabas nga sila na ibang version, lalaruin ko yun, and that's for sure.
