#Gelfling Ortun

I still have quite a few of these IG questions to answer. I wanted to share these four because they were my most fun. There’s another that I will post up but it will be included with any other angsty questions

The first one is a few Ocs and their taste in music. I separated them and wrote more but I forgot to watermark them. I don’t think anyone would steal these drawings but still.

Sera loves opera and takes Ortun and Tau to them as often as she can. It’s one of the few activities she keeps up with from her childhood. Ortun wasn’t the biggest fan but grew to enjoy opera and is quite the connoisseur lol On IG I had the two of them listening to a talented opera singer, Maria Callas. My friend introduced me to

Fleur and Takoda in particular like just about everything. If it’s got a catchy beat they will be fans of the song/artist/group. I had watched, Turning Red, before drawing this and had them dancing to, I Want It That Way, by the Backstreet Boys. The two of them would be those friends who sing with a hairbrush and put on a performance in front of an invisible audience lol

Azra I want to say gets introduced to anime and amvs by her soul sister and discovers a bunch of rock and symphonic metal. She has no regrets watching amvs lol She’s listening to Nightwish, Sleeping Sun. A personal favorite song my sister and I discovered one day that cemented our days surfing YouTube for good amvs

Cha’l can be an old soul and enjoys music similar in beat to Frank Sinatra. It’s easygoing and Cha’l has to have music on when he’s cooking for his family. He’s the type that can play music and not get distracted if he’s focused on a task. He was listening to, “Poetry in Motion” a song my sister showed me from a Fisheye amv from Sailor Moon! But, Cha’l also loves music that makes you want to dance! I’m getting pictures in my head- like if he’s making a recipe he’s done a thousand times he has no problem letting the music speak and make him dance. If I drew him dancing he’s be listening to either Hector Lavoe, Marc Anthony or Elvis Crespo because those artists hold specific moments I see Cha’l and his family doing

Fleur singing in the tavern! There was a commercial that was playing all the time (maybe January? That’s when I believe I drew this) and it gave me jazz bar vibes. The poses and composition were taken from a childhood favorite movie of mine. If anyone could guess it will get a digital cookie! I will say the movie is a direct to video sequel to a much better movie. I’d give another hint but the other hint is giving too much away

MY FAVORITE!!! Lol Kiel and his expressions. He and Fleur are the most expressive but Kiel is the king of expressions. Kiel is a menace to Captain Ortun and he thrives off of knowing that. I love how close he and Tau are. He’s an only childling so Tau gives him a taste of what having a sibling is like. If Tau looks like they’re in vampire garb that’s because I was looking at/thinking about, Interview with the Vampire lol

Lastly, Gelfling Viara and Podling Fleur! Something I never would’ve considered. Even as a Podling Fleur still looks like she can take anyone on while looking cute doing it lol Viara is still just as sweet looking as a Gelfling.

I haven’t posted my IG questions on here in a while. I have more but I want to draw all the other answers before organizing them into separate posts.

Here we have two very contrasting pieces.

The first is a little story on how Sera and Ortun met and fell for each other. I don’t think I’ve shared a full body piece of them but Ortun is shorter than her. They “kinda” give me Kiliel (Kili x Tauriel) vibes, mostly because of the height difference and being from two very different lifestyles. I was also a huge Hobbit trilogy fan.

Ahhh their meet-cute is so fluffy. I’m a sucker for ship moments where one character could be rambling or telling a story, and the other is just so enamored. Like, they’re listening with the sharpest ears and enjoying the look of their partner glow as they share a story.

The second is Maeve being very angry. Maeve never had super strong positive feelings about the Skeksis but after certain events happen she definitely wants to take revenge like Tavra. I believe out of all my Ocs, Maeve has some of the worst things happen to her. Other characters eventually get a taste of what life is like during the Garthim Wars but I don’t have anything solidified.

Sera is a close second for other reasons prior to the events of AoR. Yeah, Maeve “almost” becomes another Gelfling while she’s processing things. I hate the Garthim Wars.

These were all done on my train rides the past two days (hence why I personally think Cha’l and Kiel look slightly off) I also added Viara because she was my second Dark Crystal Oc and she deserved to be included. Originally this was going to be most of my young adult ocs but then Ofir, Rizzi, Sera and Ortun said, “hold up! What about....us?”

I need to get back into human proportions because some of their noses are slightly off. I also have a ship I am getting tempted to draw from an anime I’ve watched and my IG feed shows me all the cutest drawings of them.

Maybe I’ll do some of the canon characters as humans. I’m afraid my interpretations of them won’t be so unique or something that hasn’t been done.

Anywho~ these are just a portion of my Gelfling (and one Podling) ocs as humans! I hope you all enjoy this!

Cha’l and Kiel’s Captain has a face and name! He also has a wife who’s just as daring as him!

Captain Ortun (his name means by the shore in Welsh) is a Sifan Captain who’s a little shorter than the average Gelfling but has the build of a warrior. He loves his ship almost as much as his wife, Serafin, she prefers to be called Sera. Ortun reluctantly agreed to have Kiel join his ship because he owed a debt to Kiel’s parents.

Seraphim is a Vapra turned Sifan Captain. She’s Tau’s older sister as was able to get Tau to join their ship and help them learn how to become a Captain one day. Sera is no spring chicken to danger and has gotten herself in a few close encounters when she and Ortun were younger.

We all know that I’d eventually make a new Gelfling Oc. It was just a matter of time lol

This young Spriton lad is Takoda. His name means, friend to everyone, from the Lakota tribe. I’ve been wanting to sketch him out for the longest time and finally did it. He’s a sweet guy who enjoys singing and will often times duet with Fleur. Yes, I have a comic idea in mind to show this part of their friendship, lol. I’m not creative so the songs they’ll sing will be songs I really like. He may not drink drink like Fleur but he can hold his alcohol. He’s definitely that one friend in the group who is the designated driver- aahhh the ideas I’m getting already!

He’s also one of Kiel’s exes. They’re friendly with each other though. The relationship didn’t last because the long distance was a deal breaker for Takoda. Takoda was friends with Fleur first before meeting Kiel. The two of them just happened to get together without Fleur introducing them.

As we can see I’m fascinated with interconnected relationships. Idk maybe it’s because I grew up with Naruto that I’m use to characters knowing/know of each other. But….Thra is so big so the idea of so many characters (outside of Ortun and Sera’s crew) knowing of each other might be a bit unrealistic.

Regardless! I really like his portrait design and he makes me want to go back into some of my other Ocs and tweak their facial features a bit more.

I did my Oc questions on IG and here are all of my questions relating to my Sifa babies! I write a lot so the question bar only fit Sera and Tau but everyone was included lol

As always, Azra is always up to grossing other Gelfling out. She has no shame in making the Ta as nasty as possible and saying that it has to be smelly and bitter to work; it’s just a made up excuse, she knows that if someone really wants to see their future they will drink anything. And that Gelfling is gonna have a really bad time when his future happens lol

I really love SkekSa’s design (I have yet to read the last three novels) and it was nice drawing her albeit a redraw of the cover of “Tides” Captain Ortun and Sera; mostly Ortun, get nervous when she comes around. Cha’l doesn’t care for the Skeksis except for SkekSaand both he and Kiel are happy to be noticed by her!

Kiel isn’t always the prankster/trickster we know and love, I believe this is the moment that he and Tau become friends.

And Captain Sera is such a boss! I love her design! Both her and Ortun are fun but Sera is more fun and more intimidating lol

How much does Serafin and Ortun care about each other?

They love each other unconditionally! Ever since they met by the harbor in their younger years, the two of them shared a special connection that only grew stronger as time went by. Ortun treated Serafin how she wanted to be treated, just like any other Gelfling, even if it meant hearing the unpleasant things. And Serafin gave Ortun the respect and courage to pursue his dreams. 

They open up about their troubles and work together to overcome the obstacles Thra has given them. While the two of them can't have childlings of their own, they enjoy being parent figures to their crew.
