Call for beta-readers
I have finally completed my novel, and need beta-readers to evaluate it before I go on to query literary agents. I cannot financially compensate readers beyond token amounts, but I am willing to return the favour by reading and giving detailed feedback on your own manuscripts (so long as they are not significantly lengthier than my own).
If you are interested, please say so in the replies. Then I will DM you a list of things I would like you to pay attention to during your reading, and provide me with feedback on those points. I would like the interested readers to complete the reading in a month.
Brief info about the novel:
Length: 126k words
Genre: gothic mystery-romance, historical, LGBT
Inspirations and comparative titles: Emily Bronte's Wuthering Heights (1847), Joseph Sheridan Le Fanu's Carmilla (1871-72), Sarah Waters' Affinity (1999), Guillermo del Toro's Crimson Peak (2015), Mexican Gothic (2020) by Sylvia Moreno Garcia, Bitterthorn (2023) by Kat Dunn, The Knowing (2024) by Emma Hinds.
Adult-grade, contains depictions of physical and sexual violence, and an explicit sex-scene
Story summary:
In 1872, a young prodigy spirit-medium Agnes Iddins is called to investigate a haunting of a great country house in Derbyshire.
The house, nicknamed 'Shrike's Barrow', had been a site of an extraordinary crime in 1831, when nearly the entire noble family and a few senior servants to boot were brutally murdered in a single night, 13 people in total.
Agnes is hired by the only surviving family member, baronet Sir Ethan Ramshaw, then a young man, and joined by a rationalist sceptic Dr William Trowley, Sir Ethan's distant cousin who is to inherit the estate. Agnes befriends the servants, especially the sardonic female gardener Heather, in an effort to uncover the circumstance leading up to the massacre.
When she contacts the spirit of one of the victims, her investigation takes an unexpected turn. Can Agnes solve the mystery and banish the evil spirit, or will she succumb to the darkness of Barrow?

what was your inspiration to create your game? how was the creation process?
all the best, and good luck with the game! :D
OOO I CAN DEFINITELY ANSWER THIS!!
My inspiration for Weeping Rosemary was? a bit varied throughout it's creation, since I had first conceptualized it in 2018. I don't recall what led me to it, but I remember first creating Ophelia and drawing her around this time.
Weeping Rosemary was originally a webcomic series, since it was what I knew best and what was easier for me around this time, even though I always imagined it as a game in my heart. However, uni came along and made me too busy to continue it - which, to be honest, might have been a blessing in disguise LMAO
The story of Weeping Rosemary was... not well written at all. Coming out of the hands of a teen who's main consumption of media was edgy horror manga, or really outdated harem anime; the writing of it was so juvenile and cringe ( and not in a 'but free' way! )
As I got older, and my interests expanded, as well as my own growth within myself - it affected a lot of how Weeping Rosemary has changed and developed.
Now, for what inspired - a lot of it is the gothic! And not gothic as in like, the fashion & makeup, etc. ( though I still like these elements a lot ); but the books of gothic novellas! The books that mainly inspired me being:
Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte
The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde
The Bloody Chamber by Angela Carter
And then of course, movies such as Crimson Peak, directed by Guillermo del Toro, and the series Penny Dreadful. They are other media I like as well that have inspired me, but I can't comment solidly as I only know them from an outside POV ( for now ), like Carmilla by Sheridan Le Fanu, and Bram Stoker's Dracula, for example.
I really like sensual ( sexy? ) horror, that does a nice balance of blending in elements of sexuality with terror - and I feel that gothic novellas do a nice balance of this; which is what I plan ( and hopefully succeed ) in with Weeping Rosemary's full game. It's also why WR's horror is not, like, a loud jumpscare horror, moreso than a subtle horror.
As for the creation process - The game production had commenced around February of this year, as it was my final semester as a art student. I had to do a thesis and all I knew was that I realllllly wanted to make a game, but I was unsure of what. I decided to revise and redo Weeping Rosemary, my webcomic, because I felt confident that I could not only give it the writing it deserved, but make into the game I always imagined!
My dear friend & classmate had the program, and she gave me hers, and so I got to work! Weeping Rosemary became my thesis, and I had completed the demo game around?? April 30th?
I'll show in the images below, but I had done a lot of writing; around almost 30 pages of script writing and 5 page outline to hand to my professor so he could see my plan. And then a lot of thumbnail planning and art to make for the CG and sprites! As well as see what art style would suit the game best.
Some progress shots, to show the general gist:

Here's a question: you've made your love of Dracula and Buffy well-known, but what are some other vampire media you enjoy that you'd recommend?
Sheridan le Fanu's Carmilla, the various non-Dracula Hammer Horror vampire films (The Vampires Lovers being a particular favorite of mine - and hell, let's throw Countess Dracula in too even though Elizabeth Bathory isn't a literal vampire so much as a figurative one), the original Fright Night, Stephen King's Salem's Lot and its connected short stories ("Popsy," "The Night Flyer," and "One for the Road"), Guillermo del Toro and Chuck Hogan's The Strain trilogy, any Adventure Time episode focusing on Marceline but especially the Stakes min-arc, the Netflix Castlevania adaptation (technically Dracula related but honestly feels like it's own thing rather than just a Dracula adaptation), What We Do in the Shadows (both the movie and the TV show), Let the Right One In, Toho Studios's Bloodthirsty Trilogy (i.e. The Vampire Doll, Lake of Dracula, Evil of Dracula), Vampire Hunter D Bloodlust, and My Monster Secret (the manga is better than the anime but the anime isn't terrible). And probably some others I'm forgetting.

I have some time off of work this week and have used part of that time to meet with some of my incredible cast including today's shout out person, Julian!
Julian Dailey (any pronouns) is playing Guillermo in s2 of the Fringes and my gods am I excited for them to do so. Julian's reads of the audition lines for Guillermo absolutely pulled a voice I had only had in my head into the real world. It really was a magical experience to get to hear this audition and go "Oh. Oh it's Guillermo. Oh hell yes." I can't wait for yall to hear what he does
If you want to hear more from Julian you can hear her in The Sheridan Tapes and The BookWorms! And if you're looking to support his work in the Fringes you can visit our crowdfunder!
We are continuing to chug along through the crowdfunder! If you would like to help bring season 2 to life, any little bit helps :)

🍀¡Hola familia!.
