Quote
"Moose Wala could've lived anywhere he wanted. But he chose his village, his parents and his people," Mr Happy says. "He not just held on to his village identity but also sought to elevate it, despite its complexities." Mansa district, where Moose Wala's village is located, is widely seen as a backward region - it has one of the highest farmer suicide rates in Punjab and high unemployment levels and a serious groundwater crisis. "People don't want to be identified with the region - they want to leave and never come back," Mr Happy explains. "But Moose Wala was different. He took pride in his roots and his music urged listeners to proudly accept the village as home." This is captured most powerfully in Tibeyan Da Putt (Son of the sand dunes), signifying the semi-arid landscape of the region. "We do not belong to noble families/ Brought-up in the village and townships/ I don't have any existence of my own/ Yet, influential people fear me," the lyrics say.
Zoya Mateen, ‘Sidhu Moose Wala: The unsettling legacy of the rapper's protest music’, BBC

Current Depot Artspace exhibition, helped de-install the previous exhibition and install this one, this was an amazing experience. Mr. Guo’s work is incredible, traditional Chinese watercolour paintings done in an unconventional way, using his fingers and palms to apply the paint. The 11m watercolour scroll drawing is incredible..
Our street front gallery exhibition has works from Harinder Rajpal, and Susan Louie. Harinder (the glass painter) is such a lovely man, I didn’t get a lot of time to talk to him but when I did I told him that I love his work, and he was very humble and charming (:
Very excited about this exhibition, I’m very happy to be working here while this exhibition is on.

Hello Harry Potter fan fiction writers! We all know (and maybe even love) the trope; Harry Potter goes to Gringotts and uncovers dastardly Betrayals (with a capital B) in fact he discovers he has something called a lordship- many more vaults of money he knew nothing about and, worst of all he didn’t even know his own true name and is really called…???
Perhaps Harry needs a formal mode of address and an informal name for lordship business and navigating the wizarding world. Or perhaps a secret family name so the fae folk cannot harm him, or well…

Harry/Harinder Singh from "Jab Harry met Sejal?"
Thank you!!!! I love Harry 💙
First impression: kind of a jerk
Impression now: Love him 💙
Favorite moment: when Sejal draws the little waves on his shoe. idk I just really like that part, it’s so soft
Idea for a story: I would like to know more about his past heartbreak and why he left home, that would be interesting to explore
Unpopular opinion: is liking him an unpopular opinion? I feel like there are some people who dislike his character and this movie a lot. I thought Harry was relatable in a way, and I loved the movie. Not that there aren’t flaws but I can look past them lol. The version of the movie that I created in my mind by projecting and interpreting things in a way that’s personal to me is just so good honestly 👌
Favorite relationship: Sejal
Favorite headcanon: I mean it’s nice that the ending was happy but I also feel like it makes more sense if it was sad? Like if everything that happened after Sejal left was just a fantasy that he made up and they never actually met again. I hate how depressing that is though, but I just think it makes more sense.

Saurav, Joshna are the National champions
New Post has been published on https://apzweb.com/saurav-joshna-are-the-national-champions/
Saurav, Joshna are the National champions
Saurav Ghosal and Joshna Chinappa have bigger things to achieve on the pro squash tour, but their commitment to play in the SRFI-77th senior Nationals has been exemplary.
The top-ranked Indians on the world arena and the top seeds here justified their billing to bag the men’s and women’s titles for a record 13th and 18th time respectively.
Saurav clinically dismantled Abhishek Pradhan 11-6, 11-5, 11-6 in the men’s final while Joshna encountered a minor scare to outlast Tanvi Khanna 8-11, 11-6, 11-4, 11-7 in the women’s summit clash.
Not overawed by the occasion, the 23-year-old Tanvi showcased her repertoire in the first game, rattling the champion with finely executed drops and attacking play from the backcourt.
Taking an 8-2 lead, Tanvi looked like closing out the game in quick time when Joshna clawed her way back to 6-8, but Tanvi raced ahead to pocket the first game.
Delicate drops
The 33-year-old asserted her dominance from the second game. Pushing the Delhi girl to the backcourt with neat angles, Joshna won a lot of points through some delicate drops to Tanvi’s forehand. The third game was a breeze for Joshna.
Tanvi, however, would not leave without a fight. She matched Joshna stroke for stroke from the front as well as from the backcourt in the fourth. Joshna had to produce her best to win each and every point.
Trailing 3-5 in the fourth, Joshna levelled at 5-5. The moment Joshna took a 9-7 lead when Tanvi was forced to hit a forehand to the ‘tin’, it was clear who the winner would turn out to be.
No trouble
Saurav, on the other hand, had no trouble in defeating Abhishek. He led comfortably in all the three games.
“I wasn’t expecting an easy match,” said Joshna about the final. “She (Tanvi) comes prepared. She has improved a lot. This was my hardest match in the Nationals in the last 15 years. My goal is to do well in the 2022 Commonwealth Games.”
Saurav was happy to have tried out a few patters in the event. “I wanted to try out a few things here. A lot of them was executed,” he said.
Sticking to its stand of selecting only the players who took part in the senior Nationals for the Asian Team Championships, Squash Rackets Federation of India said on Saturday that the semifinalists of the premier domestic tournament would form the team for the Asian event to be held in Kuala Lumpur from March 25 to 29.
Team announced
The men’s team includes Saurav Ghosal, Abhishek Pradhan, Abhay Singh and Harinder Pal Singh Sandhu while Joshna Chinappa, Tanvi Khanna, Sunayna Kuruvilla and Sanya Vats are in the women’s team.
The results (final):
Men: 1-Saurav Ghosal (TN) bt 2-Abhishek Pradhan (Mah) 11-6, 11-5, 11-6.
Women: 1-Joshna Chinappa (TN) bt 3/4-Tanvi Khanna (Del) 8-11, 11-6, 11-4, 11-7.

Calling Sehmat by Harinder Sikka is a A Kaleidoscope of Nationalism, War, Regret and Finally Finding Peace
Harinder Sikka’s Calling Sehmat is so much more than just a spy story. Based on real events, it embodies the sense of duty towards nation, how this duty often conflicts with one’s personal aspirations, happiness and even values and the supreme sacrifices people often make to fulfil it.…

Bollywood films are known for being high on drama, emotion and also for providing a larger than life picture. While many films do play to the stereotypes, in recent years, we have also seen films that provide a mirror which reflects reality rather than a door to escape from it. So, we list down filmmakers who have gone on to adapt real-life incidents and done justice with the content. You will be absolutely thrilled at how a filmmaker manages to portray the intricate workings of a person’s life or an event in a few hours! You definitely need to add these movies to your watchlist, if you haven’t seen them already!
Tumblr media
1.Raazi (2018) Director : Meghna Gulzar
The latest entry to the list of films based on real life incidents is Raazi. Alia Bhatt has perhaps mastered the art of balancing commercial cinema with socially relevant cinema. In fact, she started her career in this way as well. After making her debut with Student of The Year, which was a commercial film, she went ahead and did a film like Highway. We have seen her in films like 2 States and Badrinath Ki Dulhania but to offset these commercial entertainers she also is seen in films like Udta Punjab and Dear Zindagi. Alia Bhatt’s last release Raazi, was a film loosely based on the book Calling Sehmat by Harinder Sikka. A novel which was inspired by the almost-unbelievable real-life story of the woman who Sikka named Sehmat, to protect her identity. Harinder Sikka had gone to cover the Kargil war and write about the many intelligence failures of the Indian army. However, during his stint there, an army officer pointed out that there had been people who were risking everything to provide the army with top secret information. Turns out, Sehmat was that army officer’s mother, a Kashmiri Muslim, who married a Pakistani officer to spy and provide classified information to Indian intelligence during the 1971 Indo-Pak war. Harinder was so fascinated by the courage and patriotism of this woman that he tracked her down. He met her in Malerkotla in Punab, where she was living at the time and got her to open up about her life’s story. Credit must go to the director Meghna Gulzar for the way she portrayed Sehmat’s story. Raazi as a film, didn’t take any sides. It didn’t portray Pakistan in a bad light nor India in a good one. It showed that humanity and ruthlessness exist on both sides. This is a significant departure from the patriotic films of yesteryear – we are habituated to seeing a good vs evil theme, and having Pakistanis depicted as soulless warmongers. However, it did give us a good glimpse of how many people are sacrificing their lives for our country, something for which they don’t ever get credit for. You’ll feel proud of such unsung heroes of your country after this one!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
2. Chak De India! (2007) Director: Shimit Amin
In Chak De India! Shah Rukh Khan was seen playing the character of a hockey coach of the Indian Women’s Hockey team who returns years after being accused for match fixing as India faced a defeat to the hands of Pakistan during his tenure as the captain of the Men’s Hockey team. His character in the film was reportedly inspired by former Hockey captain Mir Ranjan Negi. The man who led the Indian women’s hockey team to the gold in the 2002 Commonwealth Games. Like Mr. Negi’s life, Shah Rukh Khan’s character in the film named Kabir Khan faced major backlash from the public following India’s humiliating 1 – 7 defeat to Pakistan. In an interview with a leading daily, Ranjan Negi spoke about the hardships he had to face after being accused for betraying his country. He said, “Everywhere I went, I was abused by the public. Nothing matters to me more than playing for my country. I am a proud Indian and will always be so. There were lots of things that happened in the run-up to the final. You find out. I will not speak about the politics that contributed to our defeat.” Ranjan Negi however managed to make a comeback in the world of hockey but this time instead of helping the team on the field, he was pulling the strings from his dugout and went on to help the Indian Women’s Hockey Team all the way to winning gold for the country at the 2002 Commonwealth Games. Although in Chak De India! The tournament is shown as the World Cup, Ranjan Negi still feels that it accurately depicted their journey to victory.
His friend-cum-journalist Anand Phillar who accompanied Negi at the Commonwealth game’s final described Negi winning the gold as a salvation. His statement read, “As in Chak de India, our team made it to the final, where we met Korea. The match ended in a draw, again as in the movie. Then came the barren extra-time and the tie-breaker. Goalkeeper Ashish Ballal came up with a couple of great saves and India clinched the gold medal. Again, as in the movie, the celebrations were wild and memorable. I jumped the barricades to get on to the field, seeking Negi. We hugged and cried, but said nothing to each other. Words were not necessary. The gold medal was the salvation that Negi was seeking and I was happy for him.”
Chak De India! Is a source of inspiration to show that nothing is impossible. Not only the Hockey Team, but women sports team in India are generally not given as much as importance as the Men. But this story proved that our girls can achieve anything if provided the right help. The film also shows us how crippled Indian sports system is.

3.Manjhi: The Mountain Man (2015)
Director: Ketan Mehta
Dashrath Manjhi (Nawazuddin Siddiqui) is a poor man from a low cast, living in a remote village cut off from the world by a rocky mountain range. He loves his wife, Phaguniya (Radhika Apte), more than anything in the world. Unfortunately one day, while climbing the mountain to get food, his wife slips and dies.
Dashrath could not forget the pain and anguish he saw on his wife’s face. He realised that this rocky path had been a problem for his village and since he knew that the government would neither listen him nor do anything about it, he decided to take action. He bought a rope, a chisel and a hammer and began creating a road path on the hill. Day and night he worked with his chisel. People thought he was mad and made fun of him but rather than allow their criticism to make him quit, it strengthened his resolve. 22 years later, Dashrath had built a 360 feet long, 30 feet high and 25 feet wide passage through the Gehlour hills, which reduced the distance between Atri and Wazirganj from 55 km to 15 km. He had achieved his goal in 1988 and this brought him international massive acclaim. Nawazuddin Siddiqui played this role that vacillated between grief and grit with rare talent. So real was his performance that you not only sympathised with his loss but also were inspired by the lesson. Faith can truly move/break mountains. In an interview with a leading daily, Nawazuddin described Dashrath Manjhi as the true superhero. He said, “My chief Ketan Mehta described only one line to me — ek aadmi apne pyaar ke liye 22 saal tak pahad todta rehta hai (for a long time, a man continued pounding without end at a mountain for his adoration) — and that was sufficient to allure me. I needed to get into the psyche of this man, Dashrath Manjhi, who was a standard man however his affection was exceptional. I needed to know how it feels to love somebody that much. In today’s age, this sort of adoration doesn’t exist; it’s the stuff of dreams. We continue discussing Superman and Batman, Dashrath Manjhi was our Superman and no one thinks about him.”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
4.Neerja (2016) Director: Ram Madhvani
Another trend which has been set since last few years is that we have had many movies with strong female lead, having feminist approach. From English Vinglish (2012) to Veere Di Wedding (2018), we have seen so many films that are based on a female lead and Neerja is another brilliant addition to the list. Sonam Kapoor blends right into the core of Neerja’s character, many have rated this as the best performance of her career. She plays the character of a flight purser of a Pan Am flight who is also a struggling model. Her first flight as a purser gets hijacked by terrorists. If Neerja was a hero in real life, Ram Madhvani is the real hero of the film. He has made such a compelling drama that will keep you on the edge of your seats. The entire hijacking situation is so brilliantly shot that you feel that you are a part of the life threatening situation. The tension you feel in the scenes are palpable, especially when the terrorists realise there is no hope for them and they become reckless. After a long drama filled with guns and violence, the Pakistani armed forces manage to outwit the terrorists. Neerja saved as many lives as she could but she caught a bullet trying to save three unaccompanied minors. This movie was indeed a fitting tribute to the brave soul which was Neerja Bharot. In an interview with a leading daily, Sonam also spoked about how she aspires to be like Neerja and what actually convinced her to do this film. She said, “”Neerja” is special because you can only aspire to have qualities like she did and to portray that character was an honour for me. I think no one knew about Neerja Bhanot, so when I heard the story I immediately agreed to do the film. The makers said that they are making a film on this girl and after some research, I called them and said that I want to do this film. Neerja is an extremely principled girl with the most amazing characteristics. She had the presence of mind, the compassion, and the kindness to take care of other people and not herself. It was challenging because it actually puts you in the mood. The whole film itself was challenging because you have to work very hard and it was emotionally, physically and mentally draining, but it is a part of your job and the end result has to be honest and good so that the journey is what it is supposed to be.”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
5. Special 26 (2013) Director: Neeraj Pandey
Special 26 was a film set in 1987 based on a true incident when a person posed as a fake CBI officer and robbed a famous jeweller at the Opera House in Mumbai. This incident forms the basis of the plot and how a group of conmen conduct false raids as CBI or IT officials to con politicians, businessmen and high profile people to rob them of their money. These heists are never reported as most of the money is black money and none of these high profile people want to be in the news for wrong reasons. The person posing himself as Mohan Singh had placed a classified advertisement in the 17 March 1987 issue of The Times of India, asking for “Dynamic Graduates for Intelligence Officers Post and Security Officers Post”. He conducted interviews for the same in the reputed Taj Hotel in Mumbai which convinced the people interviewing as well that this is the real deal and not some scam they are getting involved in. Even to this date, the police hasn’t been able to find the people involved in the heist. In fact, Akshay was so eager to play the part in this film, that he went on to slashing his fee by half for it. In an interview with a leading daily, when asked what was the real reason behind his decision, he said, “”I am not worried. I don’t have any kind of pressure. For me this film (Special Chabbis) is very important and this movie can be made in a certain budget. Every film has different budget and different set of audience. Looking at the audience for this film I have charged half my remuneration for this film in comparison to what I charge for other films.” Director Neeraj Pandey received rave reviews for his debut film, A Wednesday and with Special 26 he proved that he is much more than a one hit wonder.

Alia Bhatt's Raazi Crosses 100 Crore Mark
New Delhi: The movie Raazi has been a hit at the box office. The movie starring Alia Bhatt and Vicky Kaushal has crossed the Rs. 100 crore mark and continues to have an excellent run. This marks Alia's third movie in the Rs. 100 cr club. She believes that if people connect with a film, "unconventional can also be conventional". "Unconventional can also be conventional and commercial if it connects with people. It is essential somewhere to maintain that balance. I was hoping this film strikes a balance and I am happy it did. It also makes me believe in the choices that I make as an actor." She said in an interview with news agency PTI.
When asked if the actress gets worrried about the film's fate? She said, "I never worry while working on a film but during the release, I do. I worry about the fate of every film and that will never change".
"My struggles will always be there. It is harder when you have expectations. My struggle is with myself, to outdo and outperform myself, to do something new and different. Just because things are working out for me as an actor in the film industry doesn't mean I don't struggle to make it work," Alia added. Taran Adarsh,  Bollywood analyst tweeted: "Raazi is the second heroine-centric film to cross Rs. 100 cr mark, after Tanu Weds Manu Returns... However, TWMR was a franchise, so it had a huge advantage... Raazi is the first one to achieve the milestone without the tag of a franchise or commercial trappings." The movie's plot is based on Harinder Sikka's novel Calling Sehmat. Alia plays the role of Sehmat, an Indian spy, who is married to a Pakistani Army officer, portrayed by Vicky Kaushal to extract valuable information to avert war.
Alia is going to share screen with Ranveer Singh for the first time in Zoya Akhtar's Gully Boy. Karan Johar's film Kalank and Brahmastra are among her upcoming projects.
