“Three espressos, please,” you say, flashing a kind smile at the café server.

Bags sit under his eyes, and you know you're no better off. Unlike him, your features are sleepless not because of a nightmare shift, but as an aftermath of two guys who happen to have their car races organized at crazy times.

The server nods, fiddles with his machine, then retreats to the back where the real work is done. The coffee machine whirrs and the whole space smells of delicious, concentrated ground coffee beans. The smell alone is invigorating, enough to make you stop leaning your head on the counter and dozing off, instead looking out the window at the pristine surroundings watched over by the dim lights of the street.

It's two in the morning. The streets are deserted because everyone is still asleep, tossing and turning under blankets, dreaming all sorts of dreams. Even the sun is still snoring away in its own universal bed. But a few adrenaline junkies are on their feet - at least behind the wheel - to compete. Unnecessarily, you think. It's guaranteed that Mingi will win. And you're sure of that because San's not going. If they both get on the grid, it's never clear which one will finish first.

When the coffees are ready, you pay and hold the carton holder with both hands, pushing the door open with your shoulder. The parking lot is cool, much cooler than what would be pleasant after the warmth inside. You longingly recall the seat heater in Mingi's sports car, but for now you'll have to settle for coffee. You won't forgive yourself if you spill it on the seat - even if Mingi would forgive you immediately. Instead, you risk an external, yet easier to wash surface by placing the coffee holder on the hood.

“I've got it, it's warm,” you report, and then you glance curiously towards the back of the car. “What are you doing there?”

You round the side of the vehicle and are surprised to find that the situation is worse than before. Mingi has sunk deeper into ‘driver slump’, as Yunho calls it. His head is resting on San's shoulder, who is stroking his back.

“It won't work,” Mingi mutters.

“Come on. You'll be the best," San says in a soft whisper. His voice could melt car tyres.

Your eyes meet, making you involuntarily pat the pocket of your cardigan to see if you still have the secret ingredients you've been saving to cheer Mingi up. San doesn't have to say anything, because you reflexively step towards them to contribute your own two arms to Mingi's embrace. You've never seen him lose, and every race makes so much adrenaline course through his veins that he flashes reckless turns and grins. But he needs hugs and encouragement before that.

You stroke his waist and tilt your head against his shoulder blade.

“We both know you're going to be fantastic.”

You stand a little like this in the stillness of the morning. Then you pull away first, realizing that if you spend a few more minutes leaning against Mingi's back, you'll fall asleep.

“Come on.”

You finish your drinks in silence, leaning against the vehicle. Mingi is truly invigorated by the caffeine, the gleam returns to his eyes, and when you've watched long enough, he steps up to kiss you on the nose.

“Thanks for the coffee,” he says with a smile. “And for being here.”

Maybe you don't need to use the secret weapon.

“Are you ready then?” San asks. He pats Mingi's waist encouragingly, looks lovingly at him, and then at you.

Although coffee has positive effects, it doesn't solve everything. This is clear when the tall man's smile gives way to an uncertain expression.

“Uhm, can we just go home?” suggests Mingi. “It's still early, and there'll be Cypher, and…” he scratches the back of his head and really gets into making excuses. “...this race isn't that important.”

“You've been preparing for this for months,” you frown.

“You even wrote it in Yunho's work calendar,” San nods.

“Nothing to be afraid of, baby. Really. Cypher's notorious, but you can beat him just as easily as you beat that guy. What was his name?”

“Parker,” San helps you out.

You snap your fingers. “Ah, yeah! See? I forgot him already.”

Mingi sighs deeply. “I'll take out the trash.”

While he approaches the dumpster, you and San get in. You both climb into the back seat. With your butt barely touching the soft seat, and the car's rich Mingi-smell barely reaching your lungs, San leans towards you.

“Now?”

So, San thinks the method is definitely necessary.

You shake your head. “We don't have enough time now. When we fill the tank, then.”

While you're waiting in the queue at the petrol station, bird shit plops onto the windscreen. San hisses as if the bird had touched his body with its droppings. Once again, you're thankful you're not in San's car, who is much more fastidious about it than Mingi. Nevertheless, San is already reaching for the handle to get a windshield wiper.

“Leave it,” Mingi immediately talks him out of this plan.

“What?”

“It brings good luck,” the other explains, brightening up.

“According to whom?”

“Yunho.”

Yunho is many things: a former high school classmate of San's, a former neighbour, Mingi's best friend and his car mechanic. And your trio's matchmaker, who has ambitions like being the best man at your wedding. Someday.

San almost opens his mouth, but finally hums and sits back down. You don't have to read minds to know what he was trying to say. We know something else that brings good luck. You start talking about everyday, non-race specific topics. But by the time it's your turn and Mingi gets out to refuel, you and San are on the watch. You free the packet from your pocket and enclose it in your hand. Soon, Mingi gets back in and steers the car into the parking lot, then walks into the station’s shop to pay.

The action starts.

You both hop in the front seats. You tear open the cheap plastic protector with your teeth, and all the stickers of the package fall on your thighs. Colourful car stickers, a few motivational inscriptions: the perfect decor for Mingi to focus on your words of encouragement, to remember his successes when you can’t directly be with him. You could stick the first one on the dashboard, since you don't have much time, but San stops you by putting his palm on your knee.

“Are you sure?”

Of course he's unsure. Choi San, who keeps his car in a puritanical, clean manner, cleans it after every race, dusts it weekly, et cetera. You have to remind him that this is Mingi's car, Mingi's sake.

“Absolutely. It’ll be nice.” You hold his hand.

So you start taping. You're quick and consistent, running out of stickers quickly. You stick the last one above the steering wheel, a FIX ON sign burning in red flames, and then you pop out to sit back in the back as if nothing had happened.

“Huh,” sighs San, as you get back in time. He ruffles his hair and leans back, but his muscles are still tense and probably will remain so until he sees Mingi's positive reaction. Regardless, you smile at him and he smiles back.

How could this be done faster?

That's the way the two guys see life: a race against time.

Yet, the beauty of it is that when it comes to you, they slow down. Then there's no start line, no race, no trophy, just the three of you in a soothing, sprawling infinity. This was your fortune this time, as Mingi was looking around the shop comfortably and the queue was long, giving you time to get ready.

Mingi walks past the car. He gets in, throws his credit card reflexively on the passenger seat, and only at the end of the automatic movement, when he's about to turn the key, does he notice the stickers. He freezes, blinks, then turns around in disbelief.

“You two…”

“For luck,” you say. “Do you like it?”

“I love it,” replies Mingi, a grateful smile spreading across his face. He strokes all the surfaces, studies them carefully, and then leans back between the front seats to give you a hug. “Thank you.”

“So you're off?” you whisper into his neck.

“With all this luck in your pocket, it would be a shame to miss it,” San murmurs.

Mingi hums. “Only if you come with me for a test drive first.”

“We wouldn't miss it,” San nods.

So, a test drive: an unbelievably fast drive without competitors.

The first thing you do is strap in. Of course, the car won't ignite at 200 km per hour directly here, you'll have to get to a more peaceful part of town first, but until then you have to prepare.

Although when they're with you they slow down, there are times when you’re the one speeding up for them. You know how good they are at driving, and how they make their cars dictate a tempo as fast as the one your heart beats to. You can't help but enjoy the rush, the new dimension that their feet on the pedal, hands gripping the steering wheel and speed open up in the early hours.

This was the second travel you and your Conjunx went for outside of Jasper. Being able to sit in the drivers seat and traveling for hours was one of your favorite things to do with the old Prime. The last time you were able to travel to the middle of Utah, but this time you and Optimus both agree to try and travel all the way up to the top of California. You grabbed a bunch of Chex mix and survival equipment to put in your giant suit case. Looking at your beef jerky, apples, and bottles of tea in your lunch box satisfied your brain into thinking this was a good amount for the first start of the trip. Observing the Prime's trailer and cleaning off the exterior, you help Optimus hook onto it and hoist yourself into the drivers seat. Optimus waits for you to be ready, which in response you give him a few pats on the door. He honks to tell everyone that he is leaving for a massive scout again and taking himself onto the main road. Looking at the GPS, you see that this travel was going to take 54 hours to complete which made you sigh, ready for the long travel.

It was nothing but peace and quiet for the drive until you hit traffic. It was a mile long, but thankfully the line was moving slowly. Trying to find some music on the radio, you find some nice country music and turn it up to a nice volume. Laying your head on the seat, you feel Optimus' spark slowing down and the heater turning on in the truck. You knew he liked this kind of music and giggled from the small reaction he probably was embarrassed to know you could feel.

Looking out the window and watching the corn fields pass you by was beautiful. It made you think about all the lives that people had passing by you on the roads. Knowing that some are driving to go see family, maybe a vacation, or just maybe going to the next town over for the grocery store. So many humans that Optimus can see, knowing that they are all alive and well boosts his moral. Seeing children in their car seats and people dancing to the radio, everyone was doing something that was important to their lives that the Prime would never interrupt. You see from your side of the window, a cow farm with what seemed to be more than 50 cows were grazing. Smiling from seeing all the cute beasts, you stick your head out and moo loudly at them. Optimus was very shocked and confused on what you were doing, but didn't ask any questions when he sees you waving out to all the cows you past. Sticking your head back in, you laugh and fix your messy hair from the horrible wind outside. Hearing you laugh put a smile on his face, knowing you were forgetting everything that was happening in Jasper.

The second bathroom break was happening. You were in a cold bathroom washing your face and hands. Going out of the bathroom to see the vending machines out was a nice way to see what kinds of snacks and drinks they could have. Reading all your options you pick one of your favorite snacks and also grabbing a coffee bottle out of the other machine. You were going to save the coffee in the mini cooler you had in the passenger seat for the morning, as it was around midnight. Walking out, you see Optimus waiting for you with the other semis. Opening the door and hopping in, you put the food in the cooler and close the lid. "Was everything ok?" Optimus quietly asks while you pull out your covers and pillow. "Yeah, the seat was really cold, but nothing bad happened. See you in the morning, dear." After saying that you hug yourself into the nice pillow, the whole seat being down and flat like a bed for you. Before you shut your eyes close you hear a little "Goodnight, my light."

Waking up and drinking your coffee was probably one of the best thinks you have felt in a long time; Looking out the window to see now that you are on the road passing a huge city in the far off lands. Looking back at the front, you see Optimus still going, but a bit slower. You pull out some energon patches and give him two on both doors. You hear the engine getting a little louder afterwards and he starts to speed up a bit. "I told you if you needed a break to wake me up." You hear a little hum noises at to motion that he is ok, making you shake your head. Cybertronians don't need to sleep as much as humans do, but goodness does Optimus need to relax after driving for so long already.

After a nap with Optimus in a parking lot, you both were able to safely make it into the city y'all were trying to get to. Looking at the time, you notice you both were almost there to the camping site. You grab a few things from your bag and start to eat your snacks and drinks before Optimus started to enter into the Californian country side.

… 54/54 hours …

You sprawl out the blankets and take the cooler out of Optimus's truck and set it down on the blanket. You lay yourself on the blanket and look up at the sky. Both of you were in a sunflower field. The field went for miles and the patch of grass you both found was in the exact middle of the whole thing. Prime transforms and stretches from all the driving. He walks away from you to get his legs moving and you were able to get some alone time to yourself while he got some movement. Closing your eyes you started to remember all the good memories you guys had together, the beautiful moments you both shared. The wind picks up and blows on your clothes, you feel a tear slowly going down your face. Such happy times, such a relaxing period. The base has gotten worse with everyone getting hurt and Megatron going to other areas that wasn't Jasper to get Optimus off his aft. Optimus needed some more love and not get more work on his back so you gave him an idea to bring you along on the scouting missions for long date trips.

You feel a giant shadow hovered your face as something is places all around you. Opening your eyes, you see that Optimus has placed a bunch of sunflowers all around your body. "Hehe! What are you doing Op?" You see him blushing a bit and staring into your eyes. "I thought the sunflowers looked beautiful…so I put them next to the other beautiful thing I have." He sees your eyes widen in shock, your face going red in the cheeks as tears start to fall immediately. Optimus panics and gets on all fours, getting close to your frame. "I-I'm sorry! I didn't know that was going to offend you!" He feels you place a hand on his face as lips connect with his. He gasps from the surprise kiss, but leans into it. He was so confused, why were you crying?! Why were you kissing him?! After the kiss he looks at your face and sees a soft smile. "…That was the most romantic thing I have ever heard." Loading the information you just gave him, Optimus smiles and lays down, putting his head gently on your lap. "Well, it's true, my light. You are very beautiful."

when fighting, both red and blue like to fight close range. while sans fights long range, dodges if attacker gets to close

Mudborne Deblog #7 - World Building

Hey friends! Another month whizzing by, but I managed to get a lot done for Mudborne - here's what I've been up to.

Cold As Ice

Towards the end of last month I started designing the 4th region, where things are a bit colder. 

At the start of this month I finished up that area, spending some time to make the snow look pretty, or add some details like the player breathing or skating around on the ice. 

I then decided the colors and plants for the 'dream' version, I wanted to keep the more turqoise color and boost the saturation, and then make the ice more of a lilac color to match the dream "white" i use a lot already.

The main mechanics of this area (apart from yeeting around on the ice) is using heaters and coolers - heaters so you can melt frozen paths or objects (or frogs), and coolers so you can create new ice.

As you might have noticed in the screenshots above, the deeper water has ice too, which normally isn't passable by the player. By freezing the deeper water you can then cross over to areas you couldn't access before and find all sorts of places and secrets!

There'll be a few puzzles to work out using the heaters/coolers, but they also affect the nearby environment, allowing you to make the extreme ends of temperature for your mushrooms to find some new species.

This means I can 'gate' off a few types of mushrooms and trait modifications until you've come to this region and gained access to the machines.

I also wanted a way to let the player turn on/off weather, as it does have some uses and although you can sleep until the next day for a different weather pattern, I like to give players full control over stuff like that as they progress.

It also fits within the theme of the region, which is very much like a sort of 'climate control' type area - plus the idea of changing weather fits with the existing climate control machines. I tried to design the machines to be similar, but still have their own unique style.

I finished up some other bits and bobs and then that area was good to go! Now it was time to move onto what I thought would be the last area...

Central Hub

After getting past the 'tutorial' region of the Spawning Pools, you end up in a large central area that leads to all other areas, and it's where your main goal of the game is that you have to come back to. I wanted this one to be more unique and stand out to the other areas, and seem much more important (because it is!), so I went with a more purple palette to emulate some feelings of it being more 'connected' with the dream world.

I've tried to make all regions have some unique characteristics but I wanted some extra stuff with this region, hence the large purple lilypads and special pink trees, and the light pink pollen falling over the area. This is also the area that will have the large central 'temple', that is a giant version of the smaller gates you use in the game - will take me a while to finish drawing it, I reckon it'll probably still be one of the last things I'm tinkering with right down to release...

Yet Another Region

I thought I was done at this point with adding regions and was relieved as there's a lot of setup involved in getting everything in and working - there is a 6th area but it felt like an extension of the central region at the time so I thought I'd use the same region style. However at the same time of doing all this I was also working on designing the full map for the game, and realised that this area would actually be a bit bigger than I thought initially, and also connects with the starting area so I wanted to make sure it had a different style to make it clearer that its not just part of the central area.

This region has a lot of different research labs, and is focused more in the dream area with lots of 'dream' research being done - there's a few different machines for this area but I don't want to spoil them too much so I'll just show their designs instead.

There's also quite a few big important lore things here, so you can't actually access it right away and instead have to come back later when you've progressed enough. With this region done I did some last little tests with each of the regions to make sure I was happy with how they looked - this is how my "developer" map looked by the end of it:

With that done I was about halfway through the month - now it was time for the biggest task of the entire game's development, actually designing the full world map.

​Game Cartography

Trying to start tackling this was definitely one of the harder parts of making this game for me - I had all the pieces, the mechanics were all done, I knew roughly what each area would have and do, but trying to put that alltogether in a giant interconnected world is very daunting. I decided to do this all on paper first so it'd be quicker to iterate, starting with really rough sketches of each region and the things that should be there guiding me on what the structure should roughly be like.

I then taped together a bunch of grid paper so I could have one 'main' map rather than keep swapping between what was already like 7-8 sheets of sketches, and started to pencil out the first couple regions together.

After sketching I then started to color in the areas, which was some nice screenbreak time but also let me think more about the regions and how the player would progress through them all.

As a final step I then went over the area with a pen to mark some key stuff - where lilypad crossings would be, gates, doors to rooms etc. I could then use this later for mapping the actual content or paths.

I didn't really need to color in all the darker water for most regions, but tbh it was just fun to do and baby ellraiser used to draw custom rayman 1 overworld maps when they were young so who am I to deny my inner child!

​It took me about 8 days but eventially I had the final map! Technically it's still not the final map as there's a couple areas I didn't want to put on the map for spoiler reasons and I knew I'd be taking photos of it and posting it around. However its good enough to keep me on the right track and remind me of what goes where - I'm also really happy with some of the routing of the areas, I think it should be really fun to explore and unlock and backtrack!

​With that done I could start plugging it into Tiled - I tried to not be too strict with blocking out the areas, at first I was doing like exact square by square, at great eye-straining cost, but then I realised really I just needed to make sure the regions were roughly where I expected them to be and got a bit more loose with some island shapes. Just this blocking stage along took some time, as I was first just blocking in the islands and water, then I was going and doing the 'proper' tiles, then the stone tiles and the grass/mud on top - this was so I could stop having to keep looking at the bigger map all the time.

Blocking out all the other regions took me all the way to pretty much the end of the month, on paper (lol) it doesnt sound like much to have a 500x400 map, but after actually drawing it all I can say it really is!

With all that done there was still lots to be done - for each region I need to add all the stone + grass "decor" (cracks, bricks, grass patches, posters etc). Then I need to add the actual flora objects to the islands (grass, shrubs, trees), then add all the water plants for both the shallow and deeper areas, add all the world decoration, and then block out all the rooms! Then I need to do the collision layers for the bottom and top floors...

It took me about 2-3 days to go from the blocked out version of the first area, to a 'finished' area (that still needs a few last bits added to it) - to give an idea on the scale, there's about 15,000 objects in the screenshot below, including all the plants and grass and decoration, all placed by hand. I'm not going to do every single decoration and scenery piece for every other region right now, as thats something that can be done later - the main thing is making sure it all fits together and is walkable and all the doors lead to the right places.

Adding all the extra decoration and scenery is something I can do quickly at the end while doing playtesting/qa/localisation, so I don't want to spend too much time on it, but I wanted to get at least the first area fully finished off so that it's clear what each area will look like when finished up!

Big old month really! I'm a lot further ahead in my rough plan than I expected to be, I was thinking I'd be deciding the last 3 region designs in November and had expected to do all the final designing in December - but with this approach I'm finishing an entire area at a time and the first one is nearly done now, so I'm feeling a bit less stressed than I was, just a 'normal' level of stress now :') Next I'll be going through the other regions, roughly placing some of the scenery (but not all), and just focus on the actual gameplay and the routes the player will take so that I can start doing some internal playtesting! ~ Ell

Synopsis: Michael, niiri and the exorcists needed full rest for there Sunday church recidle. But things dont go as planned as inconvenience happen that causes them to loose sleep. While that's happening Michael has a nightmare of one of his worst fears to ever happen...niiri eating the artificial fruit of knowledge that triggers a conflict in his head.

8:50 pm on a Saturday night , it was time for our early birds to head to bed for tomarrows church service.

For the exorcists this was always an important day to attend with there assigned priest, to spread the words of god and the good hes done.

This too was important for Michael, since he was the arc angel chosen by them, thus he must participate. not only that, but his divine presence in the cathedral truly changes the mood to something hopeful and peaceful for the humans once he appears, he was truly the highlight of these services, especially when he talked about god.

And lastly niiri. despite the circumstances, she was willing to go out and recite the bible, with the help of Michael healing her along the way. she would just need to adjust her face with glamour magic to not scare of the humans, proving them that shes means no harm to them, unless one of them angers her beloved angel thats a different story....

Now then, the heater was turned on there room since today was a very cold night. Everyone even wore there fluffy pajamas, adding extra fur blankets to sleep with. All four had begun to sleep together in one room after the incident of the Christmas miracle that happend with Michael... Ever since then, hes been extremely paranoid of bieng randomly transported elsewhere with that happening again. So naturally thats how this came to be. Niiri slept on the edge next to there small desk, Michael slept next to her no surprise there, thiago slept between Michael and Merewyn, offering himself to adjust there pillows bieng the heart of gold that he was.

" well goodnight everyone!" Niiri said as she placed a kiss on Michaels forhead, making him do the same. Thiago yawned and stretched his arms out, accidentally hitting mery and Michael. Only Michael reacted in irritation, luckily he dosent get the same treatment as he treats gabriel. "Mind your movement next time." He said in a stern manner, if the most he does is give you a warning, then you know he has somewhat of a soft spot for you. Poor thiago still isnt used to his harshness but regardless as his chosen angel he showed respect to him nontheless but always found a way to try and get on his good side. " Apologies arc angel i didnt mean to do it on purpose! And you to mery, id feel horrible if i injured your beautiful self." The sickly ice queen rolls her eyes not even looking at him, the corner of her lip struggling to not form a vague smile. " Its fine. Lets just close our eyes already *cough*" " Hmph apology accepted i suppose." Said Michael as he yawns, resting his head againts niiri. " Alright you two hush now, before you agitate my angel that he dosent get his beauty sleep~". When she said it, it felt almost like a threat, but when it comes to the exorcists she perfers to spook them.

Finally, peace and quite. Humming of the heater echoed through the room, a very satisfying noise to hear during nighttimes. At times it made popping sounds with clicks but that didnt wake any of them up. Atleast, not because of the machine. 1:19 am Thiago was nocked out cold at this point and so was our beloved taboo lovers. They where warm with each other and ever so much so with the heater. Well, that was until the room started feeling more neautral of both temperatures colliding eachother, then the room felt cooler. With the fluffy blankets they all where sleeping in, it was manageable. But then the room went from normal cool to chilly. Michael began shifting around a bit as his body began to get goosbumps from the sudden lower change in temperature, he tried so hard to ignore it until he couldn't take it anymore and woke up beyond pissed. "Is the heater broken?!" He said to himself, but when he looked it was fine. It had not been tampered with nor did anything indicate it was broken of sorts. Then how? Windows where closed the door was closed and the ac wasnt on. So how on earth is this ha- " I-its so cold!". Now niiri had woken up. " AY DIOS MIO!(OH MY GOD)

IM GETTING FROSTBITES!". then the three awakened friends look towards Merewyn.

" hm? W-whats w- *ACHOO!* The answer was all clear now, merys abilities began to accidentally slip out when she was deep asleep, that she had no idea she was freezing everyone in the room. " MERY! YOUR RUINING MY BEAUTIFUL PASTEL SKIN WITH YOUR GIFT! GET OUT BEFORE YOU GET US ALL SICK AND KILL US!". his rage almost sounded like he summoned thunder from outside that thiago nearly jumped while niiri just pulled him in a hug to calm him* " Ooooh but just a week you begged me to get you sick for niiris attention and where on your knees until i said yes!". ".....are you talking back to me?". He tried to look intimidating, merys face however always had that sickly expression on her face. To drowsy because of her abilities that she could barley change any expression. Thus she wasnt phased by his anger. " Shhh shhh~ angelica, take a deep breath in and out come on, don't take it out on her she cant help it and you know it..." Niiri says with empathy towards Merewyn. Michael turns his gaze away from her and back to niiri's, he grunts, before closing his eyes doing as he tolds taking a few breaths to control his temper.* "*Sigh* sorry for my behavior...." "Its fine arc angel." She coughs, this time thiago offers to help rub her back. " Take it easy, maybe sleep underneath the blankets that way the cold can succumed to the warmth?" "Ill try that..." So she does just that, wrapping herself in a burrito formation from head to toe, so the others could rest well and herself. Sure enough, the room began to fade of its winter solstice.

3:06 am Soft snores and breathing of peacful lambs nuzzled in a lullabies tune, they all looked peaceful, much better than an hour ago. Niiri's active imagination often didn't let her sleep immediately. It took a while for her to reach REM sleep, she was always thinking about romantic scenarios with her dove, from chasing eachother in the clouds of the sky while they giggle, to marrying in heaven. Sometimes these dreams would shift into what it could be like to make proper love to each other. Everytime shed reach the part of penetration, shed awaken herself looking embarrassed, running towards the bathroom and splash herself with cold water. Sadly no wet dreams would happen today, and instead once her head finally shut off her her imagination turned into a dream about her and Michael together in the garden of eden. Sitting down in a beautiful garden of flowers that once existed in the early years of humanity. It started of as all of the things niiri has played with Michael, playing pat a cake, to chasing eachother playing tag. Catching up to Michael as she tackles him to the ground, never yelling always laughing having fun with nothing to put them on edge. Whats this? A butterfly lands on michaels nose, he tries to shoo it away but it keeps coming back to him. Hes growing irritated but then niiri moves closer to him, helping to move it away. When it does another one comes in and lands on her nose aswell. Because they where both close, the butterflies looked as if they where kissing with a simple touch. The wind breeze blows towards there direction, both of there hair swaying around in strands covering each other's faces. It looked as if they where caressing them. They both begin to move there lips close to each other, as they close there eyes. From the skies, angels play a melody through the strings of there harp, while they hum there lovesong for them. As if the angels had accepted there love. A dream that niiri wishes to be reality.

The two doves in love begin to tilt there heads fora kiss, mimicking the butterflies. "Michael..." "Niiri..." A beautiful dream, unfortunately shattered thanks to the maestro's mighty snores that managed to manefest in her dreams destroying all the meaningful scenarios. Niiri's eyes jolted up, extremely irritated that her crimson iris dilated until it stretched so far, now her eyes pure pitch black darkness. How dare her dream gets interrupted in the worst way possible!.

" get your baracuda note ass OUT OF MY DREAMS!" she grabs her pillow and lunges towards thiagos side, smothering him with it with force. Waking thiago up was a force to be wreckin with, when you do that your unententionaly asking to get thrown towards a wall or cieling, in this case for niiri its the latter. "OOF!", to no surprise Michael was awoken very much by thus, especially considering she was holding him, poor guy nearly got flown up too but not to high up. " did you..." he did not hesitate to grab him by both the collar of his shirt and begin shaking him violently. " Did you just hurt my beloved sunshine and rainbows, my happiness, my anti-depressants, my lucky charms cereal personified that everytime i kiss raises my dopamine level because how sugar happy she is!? My cute psychotic harlequin that id be willing to get caught and be send in an insane asylum matching straight jackets and socks just so that we can laugh hysterically and break out of there like bonnie and clyde!? TELL ME WHY I SHOULDN'T KILL YOU RIGHT HERE RIGHT NOW?!". "....that was very elaborate, ever thought of writing poetry one day?". " With your blood used as ink for my quill pen, perhaps i shall consider it." "WAIT NO-." Before thaigo could brace himself for whatever demise Michael was about to give him, niiri's full force of body weight landed on both of them. Causing the bed to break halfway and nock them both out. " what on earth?! *Cough!*" Mery peeked out of her covers to see the mess. she looks at the time and is stunned to see how late is getting "guys seriously, we have service in a couple more hours, sleep damnit!" None heard her. All where to blacked out to hear mery.

For a moment thiago said something. " Its Baritone...not baracuda...." now he passed out with his last breath. "Tsk.." mery didnt bother and just tried to go back to sleep. 4:00 am In a couple more hours they would attend there dutys, unfortunately for them they havent gotten the full rest they needed now to stay fully awake. " *Sigh* ". At this time it finally took Michael to somewhat stay asleep, mostly half awake. This would lead him to lucid dream in the same scenario that niiri had fallen to a while ago, the garden of eden. Instead of laying in a garden they where walking towards the tree of knowledge. In the dream niiri wanted to show Michael something , she begins to climb up to grab the apple from it. Once she jumps down she shows it to him, smiling. " If i eat this apple...i can finally become an angel..." The moment she said these words, his heart sunk. Feeling of his heartstrings tearing bit by bit, until it could no longer bear. He could not move, not even to shout at her to stop, no no no...thats not the real fruit of knowledge...its a fabricated one. Michael knows all to well what would happen to her if she ever got her hands in an artificial one....angels are truly cruel. "S-stop! D-dont!" His thoughts could only echo through his own head. "Please dont! Niiri!". He fought as if he was trying to tear the stitches pricked to his mouth, but everytime he couldnt. He needed to wake from this dream, no nightmare... " NIIRI DONT EAT IT!". It was like chains where wrapped around him to be unable move, and help his lover from avoiding an awful demise, how awfully familiar this felt... " ITS NOT WORTH IT! ITS NOT WHAT YOU THINK WILL HAPPEN...". He was going to break free wether the nightmare wanted to or not, nothing was going to keep Michael from stopping this scenario all together. His lips as he used all his force to yell, began to slow motionly move. Like glue unsticking, his body like a bull using all his strength to pull a wagon.

Until the breakthrough happend, he began to walk slow motion, to slowly pacing then. With the speed of the angels light, he tackled her to the ground, once she landed to the ground. *Swoosh!* His halo triggered, his amount of high fear and stress messed with his halo that the room shined so bright. Awakening everyone including himself. Huffing and sweating, he squeezed niiri so tight she was struggling to catch air. It had been a good while since he got this intense. "Angelica? Angelica! Its ok its ok! Im here...." She rubbed his back, while thiago accompanied this act even mery, despite how he acted with them, they still showed great empathy towards him during his worst moments. " Arc angel are you ok?" "Judging from the intense radiance, you had a nightmare...*acho!*". " Angelica, is that true? Please dont bottle up your emotions you can tell us...". Shaky breathes contenued to leave his body, he was still gripping onto his beloved doll until very gently, he begins to relax. Taking a while to full catch his breathe before he spoke.

" i-im...im fine...like mery said just a nightmare...". Niiri looked in concern and curiously. " What sort of dream was it Michael?." Hos body froze, heartbeat began to skip rapidly again. He couldnt do it...he couldn't tell her... He could not bare the thought of shattering her dream of becoming an angel. He could not take the reaction shed make if she learned the truth. Althou it was a dream, it was a real thing that has occured to unlucky demons. "....i-i thought i had lost you for good is all...i thought....*sniffles*.... i-i thought i was going to loose you like i lost my hyung....but it was just a nightmare....im so glad..." Niiri's eyes were suddenly filled with a few tears, to think he had such a dream ached her so much. He deserved to be surrounded with people he loves, but Michael was always unlucky when it came to that, from his brother leaving to not having a great relationship with his two other ones. How tragic...and now this fear was manefesting in his subconscious. She tilted her head down to place a kiss on his raven locks. " It was a bad dream dear, i promise you i will always be by your side no matter what..., i know with this sudden dream, it must be difficult to comprehend that at this moment...but what i said is a fact...i love you." She brings his head up to look at hers then places both her fingers on the edge of his lips to form a happy smile. " Cmon smile! Your as happy as the sunshine! Infact your as cute as one! My precious star smile~" she cooed ever so cutley. Atlast, he giggled. Her voice everytime she shifted it to a cutsey one always made him smile. Especially with her words of reassurance. "Ahh...perhaps i feel just a little bit better now...thank you." He kissed her, then turns to the others. "And thank you two for keeping me company aswell." Both the exorcists smiled. " Your our mighty angel friend, of course will be by your side! Exorcists and angels stick together after all." Pats his back.

" what thiago said." Said merywen. Michael smiled. "Lets try to catch some rest..." 4:30 am "....i cant sleep." "Me neather." " Me too..." " Me three..." There brains where exhausted, but after everything thats happend in the past hours there eyes refused to shut now. ' jesus Christ, not only cant i not sleep, but my crying has caused me to have a massive headache with half sleep deprevation combined..." Michael rubs his eyes. " Sigh...perhaps counting sheeps might help? I used to do that with my siblings back at home and they where sound asleep!." Said thaigo. Niiri then lifted herself halfway up upon hearing that. " I can help with that!" " You can?" Said merywen. " Of course mary! Anything that has to do with my imagination can come to life!." Michael smiles, he loved how enthusiastic she was. " Go for it, im sure itll come in handy." " I sure hope so...acho!".

With glee niiri claps her hands, letting out a squeel. With her other hand using her index nail, she carves a shape around her palm. A sheep, a very fluffy sheep in her own blood mixed with her once creators in hades. Once she was done, she let her mind drift of to maladaptive daydream mode, once her scenario was in its intensity, she blew her bloodied palm sheep. Like bubbles bieng blown in a bathtub, they floated around until the thick crimson liquid began to form into white wool, then a "baa!" Was heard. Sure enough, the blood became a sheep then more and more appeard, as they all jumped around. Disappearing and reappearing. Like a film strip projector, as if they where watching from an auditorium. " Woah...i feel as if i took an edible.." said mery. " For me its like my favorite rhyme story became live action front in center!". Said Thiago. Michael looks up at niiri's counting sheep imagination. part of him felt saddned, in the sense lucifer hyung used to sing him that before bed. But on the other hand, the nostalgia made him feel somewhat happy.

" wanna see something cute?". Niiri said, as she imagined the sheeps looking like each and one of them changing the fur into there hair color and accessories. " Haha of course you gave my sheep its little wing feather." The seraph said all happily and joyful. " Awww niiri! You gave mine its guitar! Oh quick! Make it sing the rhyme!". " I think if it starts singing like you, i dont know if id be terrfied or start laughing for it having a human voice." Perhaps it was best if the sheeps stuck to bleating thought mery. " Silly thiago! If i do that then all of us arent going to stop singing! Its staying in its default bleating." The maestro couldnt help but laugh because its true. His music would cause a bit of trouble. " Ahh another time then." " Ok guys, so what if we all counted each sheep each. That way maybe will slowly succumb to sleep and rest with the little few hours we got?." The service would begin at 8 am. If they could shut there eyes and sleep through the 3 and a half hours, they could maybe have some energy to recite there words. " sounds like a plan". The three said. "Baa!". Moments like these should last fore- ACHOOO! "..... whoever just sneezed, your about to meet divine punishment....NOW!". Thiago and mery shrieked, the maestro immediately went to the corner of the bed and held onto mery for protection. But instead she ended up trying to push him away so she could run out. " ESPERA! ( WAIT!) ARC ANGEL IT WAS AN ACCIDENT! THE WOOL LANDED ON MY NOSE AND I SNEEZED! I DIDNT THINK THAT COULD HAPPEN!." He pleaded like hes never pleaded before. " hahaha HAHAHAHA!". he punched the wall cracking it. He couldnt take it anymore, hes beauty sleep officially ruined by so many conveniences occuring within the hours passed by.

" oh my god hes lost it...". At this rate Merewyn truly believed the church was about to be demolished from his rage. " 5 hours....five hours of missing my beautiful sleep schedule...do you have any idea whats the longest we've slept? Four hours....after twelve....". The mad seraph then grabs his pillow and screams in it so loud that it tears through. " I was very nice until now.." he chuckles menacingly again. "So now....you must perish.." If thiago could ever hit a G10 note it was at this moment. " NO MICHAEL P-". but then mery said something that put the two in a pause. " Wait niiri, where did she go?". All his pent up anger suddenly disappeared, but when he turned to look over, from wrath to the most intense worry hes ever been. " Niiri?! Niiri! I didnt even feel her leave?!." Once they where out the main hallway, the searched the kitchen first. She wasnt there, worried they scatter around the area from cathedral to checking out the different corridors of the rooms. She was no where to be on sight, like she vanished in thin air. With the nightmare Michael had. He thought the worse, then with the speration of his hyung abandonment issues occured. "if father ever woke up in the middle of the night and sees that...i fear he might accidentally throw holy water out of fight or flight instincts....". Just thinking about himself ever walking out at night and seeing niiri's tall ass walking towards him in zombie mode sends shivers down his spine. " WE HAVE TO FIND HER IMMEDIATELY!." Both men run outside while Merewyn runs behind them as she thinks to herself how has there priest not woken up by all of this commotion at this point.

But most importantly where was niiri? The gate outside that leads to the district streets where shut tight, which ment she was still in the area, good that leaves out one stressful situation out. " So shes still here...but i wouldnt put it past her that she climbed out her way without realizing...". Said Michael. growing more anxious not knowing where she could be. Oh god...what if foras captured her? What if he brought her the fabricated apple to convert her into that monstrosity?! " Arc angel be careful, since shes a demon its very possible that sleep walking could be ten times more dangerous for them if you wake them up the wrong way." " Thiago has a point, maybe touching her in the state shes in might not be such a g-". " You think i, a seraph wouldnt know such an obvious thing? Dont take me for a fool now..." Michael knew what he was doing, thus why he was very quite in the first place. Because of the commotion coming from the two exorcists and Michaels response to them, she would begin shifting around a bit, mumbling to herself in the processing. She looked around her surroundings, then looked at her beloveds done with it all look and onto the exorcists, they to shared the same expression. " Im guessing nobody got sleep in the end..." " Nope...." Michaels golden eye twitched. " Oh your very mad aint ya?" " ....mhmm..." Aggressively twitches. Thiago nervously laughs, walking towards Michael to pat his back but he shifts him away. But Michael was beyond pleased, he was silent and then a familiar manical laugh that made thiago drink his own saliva that he to laughed, except his was because he was nervous as hell. " I am going to kill you...hehehe.... hahahaha... HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! get that power of friendship cliche OUT! IT DOSENT WORK ON ME!." " Michael relax nobody got slep its not just y-" mery was stopped. " IM DONE! FIRST I CANT GET ANY SLEEP BACK IN HEAVEN NOW HERE TO?! HANG ME NOW!." whats done was done and Michael had lost it. Niiri jumped out of his arms and instead switched positions to carry him instead to spoil him in distracting him in his own praise. " No, we must make father and God proud. You are exorcists and i am an arc angel that humans look up to. And a demon who must show there worth to these humans that a demon can switch sides. We all have a title we represent, we cannot simply just take a day off from it!." Michael was always serious about these things, days off are unheard of for him. Its no surprise he overworks himself to the brim of perfection that he cares what others could think of him. " Arc angel hes right, i understand where your coming from but maybe not today..there will be another and another day! Just this once atleast." Begged Merewyn. " Angelica...while i understand how meaningful this is to me and you...i haven't exactly gotten good rest eather, that sleep walking incident made me feel extra more tired... maybe not today, atleast next week!." "...." To be perfect, to keep an image that was made sloley to represent you. Throughout years hes been doing this to no end. Few minutes passed and there priest went looking for them wondering where were they? It didnt take long to find them all passed out in the entrance hall, snoring in peace. He smiled, he realized they perhaps didnt get enough sleep so one by he carried them around there shoulders back to there rooms. There where all tucked in and left alone now. Lights turned off while the noise of the organ echoed through there rooms outside of the cathedral with singing chants of the people. Sound asleep Atlast... .... ............ .............. God, wherever you might be... however far away you are... Hear my prayers.... Lord...please protect niiri. Please protect her from ever eating that abomination.... Forgive her sins God.... And please forgive mine.... Shes a demon with a pure angels heart... forgive her....please... All i ask that she never comes across it....ever... Forgive her.... Its not her fault that she was born a demon. Niiri... Hes mind tiresome, always battling something everyday never knowing peace. First he hated demons for taking his beloved hyung away sworing her kill them all in revenge. But then niiri happend and now hes in a conflict of her never wanting to convert her to avoid her of an awful demise he would wish on any other demons but her... A corrupted angel unable to think and destroy anything in its path, a zombie state almost. Niiri... " I love you just the way you are...". He mumbled these words as he slept next to her, a tear ran down in his right side as he thought all of his worries. But eventually these thoughts faded. And finally soft airs left his body. More long long work blather, because whatever, you get cuts.

So the storage situation, her over-ordering things, AND there being too many kinds of things is getting irritating. It's like trying to organize my basement.

So, here's the current layout, not at all to scale.

Green are shelves of stuff, both food and non-food though mostly food. I won't bore you with how it's all set up. The organization there by category is satisfying enough, but there's too much product, too varied product, and it's sloppy. There should be a little more green surrounding the bull pit and there are more short green ones in front of the bull pit, but it's already fussy.

Nothing more can be put in front of the bull pit because there are glass cases there with the pipes and things. I forgot to put it, but there's another locked case by freezer 3 with more pipes and things.

Blue are coolers. I missed the micro fridge that's near 7, and there's a small hand sink in there, too.

1 was non-alocholic drinks but she moved some of the alcoholic drinks into that cooler last week, which I think was a bad idea. A better solution to there being too much stuff in the beer cave would be to order less stuff.

2 is "the beer cave" which customers are allowed to go into, though they shouldn't be because everything is crammed in there really sloppy and there's a risk of customers knocking stuff over onto themselves and getting hurt. That's how big multipacks of beer are made available to customers, though now many of them are in the lower parts of the original beer cave doors.

3 is the freezer with the deli meat stuff in it. Since it opens from the top, the wall space there is not being used.

4 is the ice machine which customers should not touch, and 5 is the bags of ice customers can take.

6 is another top-loading freezer with ice cream in it.

7 is both a standing cooler with stuff like lunchables and pre-packed sandwiches in it, and then a long cooler that runs under the countertop which is where deli sandwiches are.

The big, unmarked rectangles and stuff across the front of the store are counter tops where the soda, coffee, slushies, and hot food are, the atm, and the lottery machine.

Yellow are storage. All of the sodas and deli stuff get put into the cooler (1), nothing is organized, and nothing is easy to get to. Returns and damaged product are also in there.

Beer cave is also cold storage, but only beer and things like hard lemonade go in there.

O is the office, and the grey rectangle near O is the big sink. There are lots of other machines in there like the water heater and soda fountain syrup set up, etc., and then one small shelf for supplies like trash bags, ice bags, etc.

B is the bathroom. ? is probably another bathroom but I don't actually know. Maybe it's already being used as storage but I've never been in there to get anything so it's probably just an unused bathroom.

So, if I had the money and the go ahead to do whatever I wanted with the store.....

tl:dr I would have less shit on the sales floor and a lot more dry storage, a less is more set up.

First I would reduce the variety of things we have. That seems counterintuitive when you're considering customers might want all those things. They do, sometimes, but there's no room. Something has to give.

We would actually monitor which flavors of, say, bagged mini donuts actually sell and which really don't, and only order the big sellers, for example. That would disappoint a few customers, but they'd be ok.

I'd put all the alcoholic beverages back in one area (2) and order less.

I would gut the ?bathroom, remove the door and wall to improve air flow, and move the ice maker and deli freezer in there. If there's room, I'd also add a small counter space and a sink so that deli sandwiches were made THERE instead of on a tiny 6in by 1ft shelf on the mini fridge in the bull pit because that's annoying. The top of the mini fridge is angled because there's a lift-up door. It's hard to work, there, and customers constantly interrupt so whomever is making sandwiches should be left alone. Under the counter space I'd add a mini fridge or two to keep the cheese in, and wall shelves for the deli bread. Keep it all together and not cause condensation in the bread bags.

Having a dedicated sandwich making place would also make it easier to keep that space CLEAN because there wouldn't be people coming in and out all of the time and that area isn't exposed to customers at all.

Considering we're only actually using half the deli freezer as it is and the other half is full of ice build up and product that is unsellable, it could be replaced with a smaller one, maybe a proper deep-freeze with a lift-up door that seals better and can also be used as work space if needed.

_Those bathrooms may be larger or smaller than I think they are. I've never been in either room, and B and ? could be swapped, I don't really care which is the bathroom.

I'd rearrange the sales floor a lot and build another wall, turning a segment of the store space (which in reality wouldn't be that big.... this is not to scale like I said) into dry storage space and add an employees only sign to that door because people will come in and beeline for that hallway assuming that's where the public bathroom is.

The angled door makes sure we can still see into that corner, and that is where I would put big things that are difficult to steal anyway, like the firewood and bags of ice.

I'd also add a saloon door with an employees only sign to the other hallway because they do the same thing over there and I have to chase them down, and omit the yellow storage behind there completely since that's the path service people like plumbers would have to take if there were a problem with the sink or water heater, etc. and should be clear, or at least I'd instead put some shallow shelving that's meant for only small dry goods like the snack cakes, or store supplies. Right now it's head-high stacks of tallboy cans and it makes me nervous.

Lots of dry storage would let us have better looking, more organized shelves on the floor because it wouldn't need to be severely overstuffed just to get product out of boxes that also are left all around the sales floor.

I'd reduce the wine from 4 rows to 1. They're just... Not selling. I mean, a few are or else I wouldn't be constantly refilling those few, and with good inventory management and sales tracking, we'd only buy those.

I'd omit the big locked case that was by freezer 3 completely. I've only gotten into that case one time, and have only ever seen another employee need to get in there one time. Maybe it's more busy at other times, I don't know.

We have too many varieties of vapes, CBD, Kratom, etc. products. One locked case, the countertop displays that only open from the register side, and the "showcases" should be sufficient. Since those don't scan, there's no good inventory or sales tracking, and with good sales tracking, only what sells would be ordered.

Notice a trend?

Then I'd use the wall where the freezer was for light bags like candy up to eye level, small snacks, etc. with some shallow shelves lower down for various sweet food products like cookies, and put the toys in a bin on the ground level where kids can see them instead of up on the top.

I'd get rid of some of the hot food machines because they're barely used. There's a hot dog roller that I've only seen food in once, a popcorn machine that's never had popcorn in it, a pizza spinner thing that I have sold a couple slices from but we could just not, a giant pretzel spinner but you can't have those pretzels, you have to ask for them out of the cold food case where the deli sandwiches are and they're pre-packed, so we could just put a mini cold case out there with the pretzels in it, or put a big countertop one and put some of the deli stuff in it, OR use that space for room-temp pastries and local stuff so we could clear off a little of the counter around the bullpit which would give us more working space and a much better view of the store.

Manager tends to do computer work sitting on one chair with the laptop on another chair, hiding behind the tall cigarette case in the center of the bull pit and the tops of the showcases are also glass so we can't put anything heavy there, which means not being able to do a lot of work, there.

I would put a fridge case out back where expiring product could be placed for people to come take for free.

There's probably more stuff that I'm forgetting, but I'm getting hungry and do tend to lose focus when I'm hungry.
