Hello ABL. First of all, let me just say, that I love your devotion to Seven Days. It was my very first bl and what got me to discover the genre. Of course it was all downhill from there lol. Just kidding. Maybe... Anyway. I've been doing this thing since the beginning of the year where I watch older jbls (usually before 2020, although that is not old by any stretch) to kinda get a broader view of the genre in Japan. I haven't been in this for that long so I'm still catching up. Some of the stuff I've watched so far. All the Pornographer series/films ; Dangerous Drugs of Sex; Takimu-kun 1 & 2; Junjou (2010); Athlete (2019) Udagawachou de Matteteyo (2015); Ai no Kotodama (2008) No Touching At All (2014) ; The Cornered Mouse Dreams of Cheese (2020). I've also watched things like His (series and film), Restart coming back home, Life Love on the Line, and I'm probably missing a couple but not a lot. So I was wondering if you had more recs for me. The Old GMMTV Challenge: The Master Post and Explainer

Hello! Welcome to The Old GMMTV Challenge (OGMMTVC), my personal syllabus and journey through the most important, and/or impactful, and/or seminal of Boys Love (BL)/Series Y dramas from Thailand.

I started watching Thai BL series in 2022 with the airing of KinnPorsche. From there, I dallied with shows that were referenced across Tumblr -- but I didn't dig into learning about the genre as a whole until I watched 2021-22's Bad Buddy, and was thoroughly moved by it in countless ways.

I subsequently learned that Bad Buddy was, in large part, constructed to communicate with tropes and expectations established previously by the genre. In order to get to a point where I could appreciate Bad Buddy in all of its historic glory, I therefore decided to start from the top -- to watch Thai BLs in chronological order so as to help me better understand the tentacles of this young genre. I was also impacted by a post from a BL Tumblr lifer, @absolutebl, who talked in 2022 about current shows by the GMMTV network, the biggest producer of BL dramas in Thailand, that were answering for mistakes made in the early Thai BL days.

Bad Buddy is a GMMTV show -- but in order to learn fully about the genre, I've created a syllabus of shows and movies that spans well outside the GMMTV network and sphere of influence. In the spring of 2023, I crowdsourced information about Thai BLs from the INCREDIBLE BL community on Tumblr, and came up with the syllabus below.

This syllabus is ever changing, especially as this young genre (which was arguably born in 2014 with the airing of Love Sick) continues to explore itself outside of its male-and-male romance genre boundaries, by centering women and/or non-binary individuals, and even leaving romance behind for horror, suspense, mystery, crime, and more.

Besides watching dramas on this syllabus, I'm also in the process of reading English-language books and articles about the Thai BL genre and its influences in Thailand and across Asia on queer and non-queer communities, as well as on the most marketed-to BL audience in young women. If you're looking to learn more about BL, this is but one resource to use. There's an incredible community of bloggers here with vastly more knowledge than me about the history of this genre. This is only my path, and I encourage you to explore the corners of Tumblr to create your own Thai BL journey!

[BSTS] Zakuro Hanami 2020 4* Card Story

(note: C’s show is based on Ise Monogatari, a collection of waka poems dating from the Heian period.)

Chapter 1 -street, evening-

zakuro: My oh my, would you look at that, Saki-sama, it’s the spring sunset. It casts such a fleeting and mysterious atmosphere over the city, it drew my attention before I knew it.

saki: You’re in a good mood tonight, Zakuro-san.

zakuro: Indeed, indeed. That is simply because I like spring. Of the four seasons none can compare to its deceitful allure. There is no other season quite as joyous as spring, don’t you agree? 

Oh my, your expression tells me that you think otherwise. Then, look at those flowers blooming over there. Drawn in by their beauty, unprepared, you come to a halt at a crossroads— And then, you end up setting foot down the fifth path, never to return again… 

Fufufu, the sweet little bird has lost her way. Are you sure we're headed in the correct direction?

saki: Huh? O-of course I’m sure. Don't say things like that all of a sudden!

zakuro: My oh my, could it be that you're not a fan of scary ghost stories? I happen to love them. Don't I look like the type of person who would be into such bizarre tales?

Oh, but! Such strange occurrences have never happened to me personally. The supernatural appears to be avoiding me, it is most disappointing.

saki: Is that so?

zakuro: Indeed, though that is because I think that the bizarre has a preference. For example, the young nobleman that Mokuren plays in our show. People like him would be its favourite food.

A love so deep that he continues to love even whilst knowing that he will never meet his sweetheart again. I’m sure that even beings that are not human would pity such a person and be drawn towards them.

Sad as it may be, a love like that is simply not possible for me…

saki: So that’s the conclusion you came to after falling in love?

zakuro: –How should I have taught you? I who through ignorance have constantly asked others what love might be.* Are you really asking I, who has no experience with love, that question, Saki-sama?

saki: Huh…?

hello!!! Hope you’re doing well. Was looking through your old vids of spirk. How many albums have you made so far? 🖖🏼

That's a good question. I'm not sure how to count them. I made my first album at spring 2020, I wanted to collect memories over the corona time and it sounded to good idea to collect them at the album. So it was first one, but there was not a lot of mechanisms in it.

The next one was a little Spirk album, well it is not little, but it was not so big as my albums now a days. There was more mechanismis, but not so much pop up elements. After that album I fell in love of pop up mechanisms, so everything after that has been more and more pop up's and harder and harder mechanisms. Now I know how they work and how to create them, and it is fun! And frustraiting.

I think that I had made maybe nine or ten pop up -albums, and they are more like books now a days. And there will be more. My next work will be snack, it's theme is Alice in Wonderland and I will be use old calenders and stuff like that - I'm not sure if I share that one here - of course, if people want to see something like that I can show it to you.

And after season 2 of Our Flag Means Death I will defenitely do a new album/book.

ohhhh, Gina *rubs happy little paws* i’m extra happy to help with this! ☺️ and yes, I saw that, too and have included that info in my soon-to-come masterpost of all companies Harry and Louis were and are a part of.

Okay, I will try to keep this as short as possible, but also make it easy to understand, haha.

First off, yes, according to the official Companies House (GOV.UK), the Accounts (Financial Statements) for HSA Publishing Ltd., Erskine Records Ltd., Pleased As Holdings Ltd., (and also Erskine Group Ltd., even though they weren't mentioned in the Twitter post) are currently overdue -- but it’s nothing to worry about right now. These are just 4 of his companies who happen to all have had their Accounts (FS) due by Dec 31, 2024, according to GOV.UK. His other companies have the due dates later this year. (❗️thank you to this anon for the info & nudge! 💖 - so, important side fact: the deadline to file the annual Accounts (FS) is 9 months after the end of the company's financial year, but GOV.UK lists them as 12 months in the Overview.

All of the 1D, Harry, & Louis companies usually file the Accounts (FS) later than those 9 months. Anon said: "But the penalties are pretty low, so I guess they must not care much?")

This has happened before, for example with Erskine Records Ltd.: The Financial Statement for up to March 2020 was filed 2 weeks even after the GOV.UK stated due date, on April 14, 2021. The Financial Statement for up to Dec 2021 was filed 6 days even after the GOV.UK stated due date, on Jan 6, 2023.

You may skip this part, but for further insight: the moment to worry would be only after a "first Gazette for compulsory strike-off" was filed and if then months later, there'd still be no Accounts (Financial Statement) filed. We are still far away from that. As far as I have researched, a compulsory strike-off from the Companies House doesn't happen fast in regards to Accounts (FS) filings; instead it can happen quicker if the annual Confirmation statement hasn't been filed in time. I have also seen a prior reblog and just as a heads up: a Confirmation Statement is not the same as Accounts (Financial Statement) in the filing history. A Confirmation statement is basically just a notice of "Hello, this company is still alive and we have filed all appropriate paperwork for the last financial year". ❗️The last Confirmation Statements were all already posted in 2024: Feb 28 (Erskine Records) May 13 (Pleased As Holdings) June 14 (Erskine Group) Dec 20 (HSA Publishing) Anon said "[...] Or those accounts are for some reason not shown publicly [...]". This has never happened with any of the 19 companies they are and were in, so just judging from my research, I don't think that's the case. There is a possibility, though, that the Accounts (FS) have been submitted, but are still being processed or that they are currently still being audited by an auditing service. (this obviously takes a while)

Harry (and also Louis or 1D) has never had a company get struck-off the register for failing to meet a filing deadline.

Sometimes things happen and stuff gets delayed. Let me go out on a limb here and say Harry might have to approve or at least look over everything -even though his co-director Emma signs off on the final Accounts (FS) nowadays- and he might not have had much of a mind for that since mid October, if you all catch my drift -- but I could be totally wrong.

It was just a personal thought I had, based on the fact that with every single one of his companies, until Emma Charlotte Spring joined as co-director, Harry had signed off all Accounts (FS) himself -- and I imagine he is quite familiar with the financial records of his companies and might want to keep at least one eye on them.

An example for this: with HSA Publishing (which was incorporated for him on Feb 25, 2014) Harry was the sole Secretary until July 2017 and until mid 2019, Harry signed all the filings himself, incl. the Accounts (Financial Statements). And those were not just all Abridged Accounts (FS) for a Small Company, oh no.

There’s a LOT of work that goes into keeping track of the books, then putting together the Accounts (FS), especially Full Accounts (opposed to a Micro-Accounts or Abridged Accounts). There's a boatload of receipts, invoices, etc. that other people have to gather or file or hand in first in order to even have the complete & correct data to work with for an accountant.

(When I post my research, I will include a link to look at all Accounts (Financial Statements) ever filed, combined into 1 PDF per company, for all companies that Harry and Louis were and are in, and everyone who is interested will be able to read up on just how extensive they can be - especially of course, the 1D ones.)

Erskine Records Ltd. and HSA Publishing Ltd. are 2 of Harry's longest running companies, and while Pleased As Holdings Ltd. and Erskine Group Ltd. are quite young companies of his, they still have a lot of business going through them.

A little example for the financial year of 2022: For all 4 companies the combined "income" (before taxes) alone was 15.4 million £. Erskine Records Ltd. and HSA Publishing Ltd. were also handling Current Asset investments of a combined 27.1 million £ -- [current assets: "short-term assets that are typically used up in less than one year. They are used in the day-to-day operations of a business to keep it running."] and that number doesn't even include the combined capital reserves of the companies. On top of this, Pleased As Holdings Ltd. and Erskine Group Ltd. were handling combined Fixed Asset investments of over 8 million £ -- [fixed assets: are long-term, physical assets, such as property, plant, and equipment"] Since Harry was touring in 2023 and had put out Harry's House only in May of the prior year, I fully expect to see the numbers of most of his companies having increased significantly in the new Accounts (FS). Speaking of numbers - now, that is next to the only thing we see on public record. We don't see what they are used for exactly, but for example, HSA Publishing Ltd. stated "The principal activity of the company is music publishing." and Harry's occupation is listed as Entertainer, so we can interpret what the company does. Since it was incorporated on Feb 25, 2014 already, I understand it was the first company for him "as an artist alone", much like 78 Productions Ltd. for Louis.

To conclude this: his co-director of all these 4 companies, Emma Spring, is definitely still instated and I wager that she will be the one signing all the Accounts (FS) again.

Friday night in New York City.  The fifth Friday night in a row that saw you getting glammed up to go out on a date with a complete stranger.  A complete stranger that had been foisted onto you by a well-intentioned, if somewhat annoying, Tony Stark.  You knew he meant well, just wanting you to find a little of the happiness that he’d found with Pepper but, unfortunately for both Tony and you, none of the dates gad yet worked out the way he’d been intending.  

The first had been with a member of the Board of Stark Enterprises, a lovely man by the name of Matthew.  Some would describe him as an eligible bachelor and he had treated you with nothing other than kindness, however there had been no spark.  Nada…zip…zilch…just nothing.

Number two was a hedge fund manager that had been pushed in your general direction at a fundraising event which you’d been bullied into attending. You knew straightaway that it was going nowhere; he’d spent the majority of the evening bragging about just how much money he’d made “playing the markets”.  He was conceited, obnoxious and somewhat odious, and you had never been happier than the moment that Natasha had swooped in and rescued you under the pretence of a work related emergency!

Date number three.  Well that had been an unmitigated disaster from start to finish.  Rob, the personal trainer who came in to teach yoga to the admin department each week, arrived 45 minutes late.  He proceeded to spill almost an entire bottle of red wine down your dress and then stole your cab, leaving you to hail another as the rain poured down.

As if it couldn’t get any worse than that, date number four didn’t even show up.  You were left sitting alone at a table for two in one of the most exclusive restaurants in New York, stood up by a man who you had been assured was “ideal for you”. Three Martinis, four Manhattans and one Old Fashioned later, you had grabbed your purse and left, but not before telling the barman to send the bill direct to Tony.  

So tonight, date number five, held little excitement for you.  You were half tempted to wipe off the make-up, climb into your comfiest leggings and lounge on the sofa in front of Netflix. But you’d made a promise to Tony that you’d give it one last shot.  So, after fastening the strap on your heels, you left your room and began to head towards the elevators.  

“Wow!  You look stunning.  An absolute delight for the eyes.  Simply gorgeous.”

Rolling your eyes, you span round to see Tony standing behind you.  He’d obviously been hovering in the communal area, just waiting for you to make an appearance.  

“Well thank you for the overwhelming assessment of me  The effort had better be worth it.  I swear if tonight is another bust, there will be consequences.”

He laughed, reaching past you to press the elevator button a handful of times. “I can’t apologise enough for those previous inadequate evenings but I can promise that tonight will be different. This guy’s the perfect gentleman. He’s a little older than you but he’s devastatingly handsome.  I guarantee that he’s going to show you a good time.  He’s also waiting in the lobby right now.”  The elevator  bell pinged to sound its arrival and Tony, hand on your lower back, guided you inside, hitting the button to take you to the ground floor where your date was waiting. “Have a good night, Y/N.  I won’t wait up!”

As you were whisked downwards, you realised that you were holding your breath. No matter how bad the others had been, you were still holding out hope that maybe, just maybe, this guy could be the one.  You were still thinking about that as you exited the elevator and found yourself looking at Steve.  With one hand holding a small bouquet of flowers, he held the other out towards you and smiled.  

“Ready for our date?”
