Off script - jake sim
Tumblr media
summary: Burned out and buried in student debt, you’re ready to quit acting after years of side jobs and constant rejection. But just as you’re about to give up, your agent calls and turns out you’ve been considered for the lead in a new Netflix series, Dandelion Season, alongside rising star Jake Sim. As you read the script on your walk home, something you thought you’d lost flickers back to life: hope
genre: fluff
warning(s): none!
word count: 920
Tumblr media
The low hum of a blender buzzes through the thin drywall before your alarm even goes off.
You groan into your pillow. Another morning, another reminder that your run down studio apartment is basically a glorified closet with a toilet. You blink up at the water stain on the ceiling, a spreading patch like a bruise you’ve learned to ignore.
The phone screen lights up.
7:12 a.m. No new casting calls. No callbacks. Just a fresh rejection email from that micro-budget student film. The one where you auditioned to play “College Girl Who Screams and Dies.”
You drag yourself out of bed, bones aching like you’re twice your age. The floor is cold under your feet. You flick the light on in the kitchen where one flickers and one’s been out for weeks. And of course there is no money to replace the bulb, especially when rent’s due and your last paycheck already vanished into your student loan payment.
You crack an egg into a pan and watch it sizzle off-center. Your reflection in the microwave door looks hollow. Your brain runs on a loop:
What the hell was I thinking? Why did I major in acting of all things? Why UCSD, of all places?
But you were proud back then. A part of their theatre program. Full of hope and ambition. The campus was filled with palm trees and promises. Where everyone said you were “the one who’d make it.”
You sip your instant coffee, bitter and clumpy, and mutter to yourself, “Guess everyone was wrong.”
Your inbox is full of unsubscribed newsletters and payment reminders. One from Earnest reads: New Statement Ready Balance: $82,397.
You shut your laptop before it can suck the air out of your lungs again.
By 8:15 a.m., you’re walking to the café. You pass a billboard for a new rom-com, the lead actress looks like someone who went to your program. Or maybe she just looks like someone who made it.
You don’t feel like someone who made it.
The café smells like desperation and burnt espresso. Your apron is stiff with old stains. You fake your smile for a line of people who’ll never learn your name. One customer points at you like you’re a kiosk.
“I said iced, not hot. Can you fix it?”
You fix it. And you apologize. Twice.
No one tips.
When a kid elbows the table and ketchup flies onto your apron, the mom gasps, horrified. You just smile, dead-eyed.
“It’s okay,” you say. “Really. Happens all the time.”
You think about how you once paid $17,000 in tuition for a class called "Advanced Shakespeare in Movement" where you had to pretend to be a willow tree for thirty minutes. Now you’re taking orders from teenagers named Brooke who order “matcha with almond but like, not too matcha.”
By the time your shift ends, your feet are numb, your hands are dry from soap, and your will to live is somewhere in the floor drain beneath the espresso machine.
You walk home past an alley that smells like piss and old flowers. Your back aches. Your tote bag feels heavier with every step.
Your phone buzzes. Call from: Amanda (Agent).
You almost don’t answer. She’s probably going to offer you another non-union gig for “exposure.” Or a role as “Young Mom Who Cries in Bathroom” in some grimy short film.
But you pick up anyway.
“Hey,” you say, flat.
Amanda sounds like she just sprinted across town. “You’re not gonna believe this.”
You don’t respond. You’re too tired to play games.
“It’s a lead. I’m serious. Netflix. A YA romance series. Think The Summer I Turned Pretty but more grounded. Grittier. Twelve episodes. Working title: Dandelion Season.”
Your feet stop moving.
“What?”
“They want someone fresh. Someone who feels real. I sent them your Hulu self-tape, remember the one where you broke down in the last thirty seconds? They loved it. You’re on a shortlist for the lead. Bella.”
“Me?” you croak.
Amanda’s typing furiously in the background. “Script’s in your inbox. Read it tonight. Like tonight tonight.”
You pull out your phone, still standing on the sidewalk, under a flickering streetlight. Gmail. Subject: Dandelion Season Script: CONFIDENTIAL.
You tap it open, hands trembling.
“Oh,” Amanda adds, almost too casually. “And the male lead’s already cast.”
You brace yourself.
“Guess who.”
“Just tell me.”
“Jake Sim.”
You nearly laugh out loud. “Jake Sim Jake Sim?”
“Yup. Mr. Film Festival himself. They locked him. Word is, he asked for a co-star who could actually act.”
You sink onto a bench, heartbeat thudding. “I’m not… I mean, I’m not like him.”
“You don’t have to be. You just have to be you. Read the damn script.”
You hang up, stunned.
You Google him. Of course.
First image: him in a velvet suit, jaw sharp enough to slice through glass. He’s the kind of handsome that makes people click. The kind of person you thought you’d be standing next to in your twenties, not drooling over while wearing a sour milk-scented apron.
You scroll. Photos of him reading in a bookstore. Walking his dog. He’s beautiful. Effortless. Famous.
You’re... still trying.
You open the script.
The first line:
BELLA (V.O.): I think some people are meant to feel like they’re running late to their own life.
You sit with it.
And for the first time in months you don’t feel like you’re drowning. You feel like maybe, maybe, you still have a shot.

A culture post for the girlie pops (and non-girlie pops) looking to write Pavitr Prabhakar accurately.
(P.s- I’m Indian and live in India and have been to Mumbai multiple times so shhh- )
(P.s.s- all i know about the spider verse comes from the movies so I’ll be focusing more on the Indian aspect. )
So in honour of atsv coming on Netflix-
FOOD- Pavitr live in Mumbai (mumbattan) so he probability of him eating “butter chicken or naan” (traditionally north Indian dishes) on a daily basis is almost nonexistent. (This is not to say he won’t have them occasionally but much of what people think is indian food comes from stereotypical North Indian food, pavitr lives in South Indian)
Popular food of Mumbai includes- vada pav(street food), panipuri(another street food), pav bhaji (not a street food), bhelpuri and sevpuri( you guessed it a street food) and for more every-day food- we have dal-roti or dal-chawal etc
(Edit: I forgot to mention this but, a lot of people are vegetarian either by choice or by religion and don’t eat meat (eating beef is HEAVILY and i mean heavily frowned upon.)
Tumblr media
SCHOOL- In india we don’t have middle school or high school, we have grades.
We also have public and private schools (and unlike the USA, private school is not for the uber rich, middle-class families typically send their kids to private school and government(or public) schools are basically free or really cheap). Thus, Pavitr probably studies at a private school.
Keeping that in mind, Students from grade 1-12 study in one building and students actually sit in the same class while the teachers move from class to class. There is also something called school boards but for all our sakes, he studies in a school that follows CBSE guidelines. Now according to google, he’s around 15-16 so he’s in 10th or 11th depending on the school he goes to.
We have these really important exams called the “board exams” ( we just call them ‘boards’) And they are given twice by the students once in the 10th grade and once in the 12th grade and these are like really really important, kinda think of them as psats or sats(lmk if anyone wants to know more about boards) and if he’s in 10th he’ll be giving the boards in May.
After which he’ll pick a stream (medical, non-medical, commerce or failure) that he’s gonna study in 11th. There is a lot of emphasis on studies in India ( if you get good marks in 10th it’s considered that you’re good or ‘set’ for life but thats kinda bs) and it’s really competitive, students often go to tuition (think of them as an after-school school) for hours after school. Maths and science tuitions are the most common.
Uniforms (a half-sleeve shirt with a tie and pants or knee length shorts for guys) are also mandatory and are strictly regulated along with hair and nails. (Two braid or plaits for girls with below the shoulder hair and typically short hair for guys that have to be oiled) so im assuming that he gets called out a lotttttt about his hair, and teachers are constantly on his ass about cutting it which I think is funny af. The school timings are typically from 8-3 and tuitions are typically from 4-7.
It would also be super-cute if his aunt massaged his hair with oil (it’s considered an act of service and something people do to show their love)
10th grade especially is really really stressful in india and if home-boy cries himself to sleep every night I wouldn’t be surprised. So make him supppeeerrrr strrreeeessssed.
Name- Pavitr “Prabhakar” is a Hindu( a religion of sorts) name.
It’s derived from the Sanskrit word “prabhākara” which means “light maker” (from prabhā 'light' + -kara 'causing'), an epithet of the sun. So to those saying he’s a sunshine boy, his surname means light maker (do with that what you will).
Now, for his first name “Pavitr” however there is no exact meaning as, the name is most probably derived from Pavit ; maybe Pavitra(a typical girl’s name) if you’re pushing it. The meaning of Pavit is Love or A lovely and pious individual.
Edit: apparently pavitr does have it’s own meaning and it means pure
So his name roughly translates to lovely (edit: pure) sunshine boy.
Transport- Now i know that he’s spider-man but when he’s not, the most common way to travel in Mumbai is by an automobile (also called auto or auto-riksha).
Tumblr media
One of these things ^^ and these ‘go by the meter’ (you basically pay for the distance you have covered and a meter calculates this.) these things are everywhere. You call for one of these by raising your hand and an auto stops in front of you and you ask if they will take you to the place you wanna go to (“bhaiya, _____ lekar chalo ge?”)
There can only be 3 people max on one auto (not including children) as per local government policies.
Another common way to travel is by the subway or local trains. ( and contrary to popular beliefs they are not filled to the brim with people). Cars are not that common as there is a lot of traffic. Like a lot.
Language- Most indians speak at least 2-3 languages- English, Hindi and a local language or two. Since they’re in Mumbai Pavitr probably speaks Marathi. Some people also know Sanskrit (but that’s not that common nowadays).
(Edit: People typically don’t speak in just one language, they typically use a mix of atleast two or three languages which change according to the region they are in. For example- English and hindi is the most common but some may mix in their regional language or dialect)
Also spider in hindi is makri (makdhi?) so i think it would be super funny if people called him makri (makdhi?) man.
People in India also curse a lot (not in English though) (though not in front of parents obviously) and the more people get angry the stronger accent the becomes.
Housing- housing in Mumbai is super expensive, and most people live in flats or apartments rather than houses, Mumbai is considered to be one of the most expensive places to own a home in the world just because of the sheer number of people there.
All flats in mumbai have air- conditioning units in them because it. is. so. humid and winter lasts for a month or two in comparison.
Culture- Mumbai is kind of regarded as one of the culture hubs of India, a lot of up and coming artists along with famous superstars live in Mumbai. There are a lot of exhibitions, shows and whatnot happening all the time.
Mumbai is also more progressive then the rest of India and pride parades do happen here but there is still a lot of stigma around it
(Edit: PDA in public is almost taboo, doesn’t matter who anyone is—kissing in public might actually land you in jail)
Teens typically wear jeans, shorts and graphic tees rather than kurtas or salwar-kamez (traditional clothing) .
Traditional clothing is typically worn on festivals such as holi( the festival of colour( some people wear white suits and kurtas)) or Mumbai’s most celebrated festival- “Ganesh Chaturti” (which is a religious festival religious festival to honour the Lord Ganesha.
Sports- cricket is the most watched sport in India a lot of kids play it on the streets or in parks and gardens, and its an India vs Pakistan match is an event in which everyone in the family (some even invite friends over) sit together and yell at the tv.
Mumbai is a city in which time stops for no one, and people are super busy. This doesn’t mean that people there are rude in fact they are some of kindest and helpful ppl you’ll ever meet(not including the obligatory rude af asshole that are in every community) especially in a city that never stops.
India is also not a country that lives in rags we used to be called sone ki chidiya (or bird made of gold) before the British Invasion so please for the love of god don’t depict everyone living in slums and poverty. The national currency is rupees and again i cannot stress this enough even though there is poverty in india, that doesn’t mean there isn’t prosperity. India is a developing country so keep that in mind while you write.
Religion and caste - This is a very touchy and sensitive subject in India and you should probably research a lot or stay clear of it in general ( especially the caste system its messed up and just stay clear of it) but Gayatri’s father is Sikh or at least punjabi so I’m assuming she is too. ( if she’s from Punjab or its surrounding area, then she probably speaks punjabi or her father most probably does).
(Edit: there are a lot of different religions in india —almost too many to count— and every single one has their own gods, prayers and rituals so please please please research before you write)
But something all Indian (boys) are taught to do is to touch their elders feet to show/ask for respect (and “ashirwad” I don’t know what this translate too directly in English but think of it as blessings)
Anyways here is a not very brief overview on mumbai and pavitr , let me know if you have any questions or if something isn’t really clear, English isn’t my first language so I apologise for the errors.
Please feel free to ask me anything ill do my best to answer back. : D
if you actually find this long ass post helpful and write a fic or something please tag me i would love to read it.

What if F! Black reader’s Black mom got transported to Twst?
A/N: Doing this because it’s been on my mind.
Girl, your situation is a whole ghetto mess.
First off, you and your mama got ran over(?) by a carriage.
Then you both wake up in coffins dressed in robes, and there’s a flaming cat.
👩🏾‍🦱: Where the fuck are we?
🦐: I think we should be more worried why I can see more white people in robes than anyone else.
🐦‍⬛: Welcome to Night Raven College! A historic a famous Arcane-
👩🏾‍🦱: Listen, we don’t care bout none of that mess. We want to go home. How do we get home?
🦐: Can we bring the cat?
🐦‍⬛: Well, I don’t know a way to your home, wherever that may be, but I could look for one. It will take some time though so, I suppose you could stay on campus and let your child attend my glorious school until we can send you home.
👩🏾‍🦱: Deal.
When yall arrive there, your mama wasn’t having it.
👩🏾‍🦱: Listen here you unseasoned bird, you must think I’m boo boo the fool, because how did you think I wouldn’t notice the malevolent ghosts living in the rotted out dorm. My daughter, cat son, and I had to fight them off until they were friendly! You are going to get us proper accommodations that are livable-are you listening?!
No, no he was not. Crowley had a thing for women that scolded him or called out his bs.
🐦‍⬛: 0///0 Umm…yeah sure, I can use a quick spell to fix some basic stuff like the bed. I don’t know about the rest of the place though, that would require actual money. You know, while your daughter and the cat are getting accommodated to classes, I can show the rich history of NRC and Sage Island?
👩🏾‍🦱: Whatever.
Which is how you end up with a semi-decent dorm.
It greatly improved your sleep, and you weren’t struggling to wake up anymore.
While you were away at classes, your mom took notice of Kalim(from his cooking), Leona(he knows how to do braids and drinks respect women juice), and Malleus(because he was in the garden all night).
That’s when she thought to herself, if yall were going to be staying for an indefinite amount of time, you might as well secure a bag and future at the same time.
👩🏾‍🦱: Baby, I know that horned dude is your friend, but I also know these two are your friends, too. So you know what, you got three chances to be your own Meghan Markle if you want to. Three! Chances!
🦐: Mom! We’re all just friends! Besides, I’m pretty sure Hornton doesn’t even like me like-…well…ok he says a couple flirty things-
👩🏾‍🦱: You’re about to be Meghan Markle!
🦐: Oh my god I’m about to be Meghan Markle!
Your mom and you share a hug as you both fall to the floor laughing.
🦐: Speaking of…what’s with Crowley? He’s been offering you a tour and lunch in town for like weeks.
👩🏾‍🦱: Ugghh…he has a crush on me, but I’ve been trying to avoid him lately.
🦐: Why?! He’s probably like uber rich collecting tuition from all these rich and royal students. Don’t you always say to me to get that bag and be in my bag? That man always goes on vacations for every break. We could be going on vacations for every break instead of staying here.
👩🏾‍🦱: I know…but what if we don’t work out and he kicks us out.
🦐: Are you kidding me? He doesn’t have a choice but to keep us here. I’m practically the school’s counselor, and you’re helping him by keeping the staff calm wherever he does foolishness. Plus, he’s like head over heels for you, if you broke up with him he’d be crying for days.
👩🏾‍🦱: When you put it that way, I really don’t have an excuse. I’ll talk to him tomorrow.
Tomorrow arrived and by the time you went to lunch, you saw your mom and Crowley talking outside the cafeteria.
👩🏾‍🦱: So yeah,…a lunch and tour would-hold on. GRIM DREMARIUS JONES! STOP EATING THOSE STONES! As I was saying, a lunch and tour sounds great.
🐦‍⬛:…I…I…
Despite Crowley reading so many romance novels he wasn’t very good at love.
👩🏾‍🦱: I’ll see you tomorrow at 12.
You smiled as you watched your mother walk away from the stunned and flustered bird, only to watch Crowley chase after your mom with a big smile on his face.

Miss Americana and the Heartbreak Prince:
Chapter 1
Tumblr media
Masterlist - Previous - Next
Miss Americana
May 2019:
"And you’re sure you can handle it? I mean working here and college?" Peter Hastings was a nice, middle aged man, looking for a new nanny for his 6 year old son, Gabriel.
"I’ll wake him up at 7:15. Make breakfast and get him ready for school, drop him off at 8:30 and go to my classes. At 3 I’ll pick him up. Help him with his homework. Soccer on Monday and Wednesday. Piano lesson on Tuesday. Prepare dinner. Make him bed ready and then you’ll take over. Monday till Thursday. Fridays I’ll pick him up at 12. We’re going to the park, museum, zoo whatever. Have lunch and I’ll bring him home by 4, where you take over. And if you need a babysitter on the weekends, you’ll call me." Rachel repeated the schedule Mr. Hastings had presented her with, hoping he would hire her.
"Impressive. Well your report looks great, I understand why you’ve got a scholarship for the MCPHS. I’d say you’ve got the job." Mr. Hastings smiled at the girl.
"Thank you, Sir! Really!"
"Gabriel liked you, you have strong ambitions. I think you’re perfect. Now let’s talk money, shall we?" he clapped his hands and Rachel nodded.
With a full scholarship and a well paid job that still gave her enough time for her studies, she could start saving up money to get the hell out of Woburn, after graduating from college with her nursing degree hopefully.
"I know this was not what you applied for, but I’ll ask anyways, if you say no, you’ll still keep your job starting in fall!" her new boss said and she looked up "My current nanny, well she left, family emergency, so I would need someone from now on, during the summer until you’ll take over at the end of August. I know, you just graduated and probably already planned your summer, but I thought I ask anyways. Again, feel free to say no, the job is yours regardless. It’s only one more month of school and then it’s… well a full day job, I’m off for the entire August, but before that I’m loaded with events here and there…"
"I’ll do it." Rachel said immediately, every reason to leave Woburn earlier was a good reason.
"Yeah? You sure? I mean like I said, you don’t have to!" Mr. Hastings said but the girl shook her head.
"No it’s fine. Really. I have nothing planned. And like this I can get used to Boston."
"You can stay here. Our old nanny has her own studio in the backyard. That way you don’t have to drive every morning from Woburn to here."
"Are you sure? It’s no problem for me to drive!"
"With traffic in the morning you’ll be in the car for an hour or longer. That’s ridiculous. Come on I’ll show you the studio. You could even stay there when you start college. Thinking back to my college times? The dorms weren’t the nicest place to stay." he laughed and got up, leading the young girl outside through the kitchen.
"I mean. I haven’t seen my dorm yet… but from what I’ve heard, yeah, not the nicest place to stay indeed."
The studio was clean and modern. A kitchenette, a table with two chairs. Sofa, TV and a bed. A little bathroom. It was definitely more quiet and private than any dorm at her college.
"Are you sure it’s okay?" the girl asked.
"100%. It’s yours if you want it. Free of charge. You just have to keep it clean yourself. And if you want to bring friends over, just give me a little heads up."
Free of charge. The money she would safe. Only paying the tuition fee. The rest of her scholarship could go into her savings as well. She could leave home earlier than planned. It couldn’t get better than this.
"I guess I’m moving in then."
November 2021:
Rachel always dreaded driving home. The rare occasions over the past 2 years where she had driven home were all proof why it was better to stay away. But something in her father’s voice when he asked her if she would come home for his birthday gave her the chills. When she parked her car in the driveway of her rundown childhood home, she felt the pit in her stomach grow. Calming down her nerves she opened up the door, walking inside. The house smelt rancid. A mix of liquor, smoke and bleach.
"Dad?" the girl walked inside the dark living room when suddenly the light got switched on. She flinched looking at the man sitting in the armchair facing her.
"If it’s not Miss Americana fresh off of college." Tony.
"Where’s my dad?" her voice not as strong as she hoped.
"Come." he got up and dragged her outside with him.
"Stop. Tony! Let go of me!" Rachel tried to get away from him.
"Get in the car. You can do it on your own or I’ll make you." his jaw clenched.
The girl got inside. Shaking.
"Where’s my dad?" she repeated.
"Your dad… he pissed off a lot of people… he was a capo once… but his drinking? Mamma Mia… he became useless the day your mother died… fallen from capo to soldato… and now? A shame really…" he sneered.
"What did he do?" Rachel asked with a shaking voice.
"Oh bella, you know I can’t tell you. Otherwise I’d have to kill you. And I really don’t want to kill such a pretty girl." he laughed and the girl swallowed hard "Just know that he owes a lot of people a lot of money…"
They drove to Winchester and the girl knew immediately where they were going.
"When was the last time you were here? When your mother died?" he asked, although he didn’t sound one bit empathetic "A long time ago… then again, it’s never a good sign if you have to go to Winchester… our family parties are usually held somewhere else…"
The driveway up the hill to the dark manor made Rachel’s insides churn.
"Get out." Tony parked the car and she did as told, following him inside.
"Oh Rachel! Mia bellissima ragazza! Look at you! What a beautiful, beautiful young lady! You should look for a girl like her, Anthony, not the skanks you’re going for." Rosaria Romano pulled Rachel in her arms, before kissing her cheeks "The last time I saw you was before you left for college and now look at you! You’re skinny! Don’t they feed you well at college? All the money they take and then not feeding their students? Che cavolo! You’re staying for dinner! Anthony, tell your father I’m feeding this sweet girl first, before he can talk to her!"
"Mamma! She’s not here to eat!" Tony grabbed the girls arm, but he shrugged away under the cold, hard gaze of his mother. He rolled his eyes, walking away, cursing in Italian.
"Now come, mia ragazza, you can help me with dinner." Rosaria lead her into the kitchen where already a handful of women were cooking away "Here, put that on. We don’t want your beautiful outfit to get stained with pomodori!"
The next hour Rachel cooked together with the ladies, told them about college and how her life was going. She knew all too well that she couldn’t tell them everything. Giving away too much was dangerous, so she lied mostly.
"And what about the boys at college? Someone special there for you?" nonna Viola asked right as Tony came back.
"She’s coming with me now." he grabbed Rachel’s arm, pulling her with him. A muscle ticked at his jaw. His hold on her arm made her whimper in pain.
"Anthony! You hurt her! Stop! Don’t make me swing my mattarello at you!" nonna Viola raised her rolling pin and Anthony let go of the girls arm "There you go, stupido!"
"Come." he glared at the girl who took off the apron, handing it Rosaria.
"When the men have finished whatever their having to talk about now, we’re finishing our conversation, Rachel." she smiled and Rachel nodded.
As she followed Tony down a long, dark hallway the bad feeling she had, since hearing her father’s voice on the phone earlier that day, only intensified.
When they stopped in front of a big oak door Tony pushed Rachel hard against it, caving her in. His nose rubbing down her cheek. His breath reeked of smoke and liquor.
"You won’t like what’s happening next and let me tell you, I understand you. But then again… mhhh look at you." he whispered in her ear, making the girl shudder "My mother wasn’t that wrong, I should go for a girl like you…"
"Anthony?" Don Vito’s cold voice rang out through the door.
"We’re here, papa!" Tony said with a sadistic grin.
"Bring her in then. We have a lot to do."
January 2022:
"Miss Lombardi? Miss Lombardi!" the screeching voice of Professor Cullers made Rachel flinch "Ah great. You are with us again… well, do you know the answer, to Miss Edwards question?"
"I- umm… I don’t. No." the girl looked at her professor "Sorry."
"Maybe stop daydreaming then and start listening to what I’m teaching you."
"Yes, ma’am." she nodded.
The rest of the class Rachel kept writing down everything Professor Cullers said, listening carefully and when the bell rang she was one of the last to leave.
"What’s going on with you?" Stuart asked, waiting at the door for her.
"What do you mean?" they walked side by side to their next course.
"You’re absent. Pretty often. For weeks now…"
"It’s nothing. I’m fine. I promise." Rachel faked a smile and Stuart sighed.
"Ok, cut the crap. What’s going on? Since you left for your father’s birthday a couple of weeks ago, you’re acting strange… what happened at home Rachel?" he looked at her and she took a deep breath, shaking her head.
Stuart was the only friend she made in college, he didn’t talk much, but there was a sense of understanding between the two after she accidentally overheard a conversation between him and a stranger behind the cafeteria one day. Rachel since knew that their backstory was similar and that he broke off all ties to his old life. He would understand her, if she told him what happened. But then again, she knew that she might endanger him if she told him too much.
"How hard was it? Leaving everything behind? Cutting off all ties to your family?" she asked instead and Stuart contemplated his answer for a moment.
"It wasn’t easy, that’s for sure. But I had to do it, so I powered through…"
"But I mean… how did you do it? Where did you get your new identity from? What happened to your old one?" the blonde girl pressed.
"I know a guy who knows a guy… but it costs a lot… also, starting a new life somewhere new isn’t for free either."
Rachel thought for a second, all the money she saved from her scholarship so far, because she only had to pay for the tuition fee and work materials. All the money she saved from working for Peter, which she barely had touched. It was a nice little sum and should keep her afloat for a while.
"Why are you asking me all this? What happened?" Stuart asked again and Rachel sighed "You can tell me, Rach. Nothing you can say will scare me away… I know how you grew up… I know how it is… so come on, tell me."
"I need to leave. Like for real… I always planned on moving to Boston after college, but they won’t let me… I only have time after graduation and then my old life will catch up with me again… I will be pulled into this mess that my life is if I don’t run away." Rachel almost whispered and her friend looked at her wide eyed "They wanted me to leave college immediately but I managed to convince them that a nurse with a degree and all qualifications is more helpful, more useful for them, so they agreed, but as soon as I graduate they will take me back to Woburn or rather Winchester… I can’t go back, Stuart…"
"And you shouldn’t have to go back, but Rach this is a dangerous thing to do? Killing off your old self, start a new life… it’s going to cost you more than just money…" Stuart said and Rachel nodded.
"I’m willing to do whatever it takes…" the young girl said determined.
"Then I’ll help you. But it won’t be easy…"
"Everything is better than staying here…"
"I need to make a few calls, then we’ll see." Stuart smiled at her.
"Thanks Stu. You’re a good friend." Rachel squeezed his hand.
"I’m currently your only friend… so that’s that."
"True…"
April 2022:
"Rachel? There’s a letter for you!"
"Thanks, Peter!" the girl took the letter from the counter, while stirring the pasta sauce "Waterman and Krieger? What is that?" she asked when she saw the sender of the letter.
"They’re a law firm. Inheritance law if I’m not mistaken." Peter looked up from his newspaper.
"Inheritance law?" Rachel ripped the envelope open, unfolding the letter. She went silent, staring at the letter, the pasta sauce bubbling.
"Rach? Hey? Rach?" Peter grabbed the sauce pan and shoved it off the stove top "What happened?" he looked at the girl worriedly.
"My- umm… my mom… she left me some money…" Rachel said slowly, looking at Peter "They write that mom set up a trust fund for me before her death. I have access to the money when I turn 21. Which is in three months."
"Oh wow…" Peter squeezed her shoulder "Do you need a moment? I can finish up dinner and I’ll send Gabe to get you when it’s ready?"
"Is that okay?" the brunette asked and he nodded "Thank you."
Back in her studio she looked at the letter and saw that there was also another smaller envelope inside. She knew the handwriting immediately.
My sweet Rachel,
when you read this letter it means I am no longer around to gift you with my last treasure.
Every money I earned from winning beauty pageants and later from working and that wasn’t needed, I put aside for you.
I know you’re a smart girl and every college would offer you a full scholarship, but just to make sure that if not, we have the money.
I never told your dad about this money, I was too afraid that he would use it. Your father is a great man and I love him dearly. But he’s surrounded himself with the wrong people, they poisoned his mind. And over time he had to drink more and more to forget what he had to do daily for Don Vito.
Please don’t tell him about the money. Keep it to yourself. It’s enough for a fresh start, if you know what I mean.
I’m sorry, that I couldn’t be by your side for longer. That I couldn’t give you the home that you deserved.
Promise me to live a good life. Go live your dreams. But please never forget that I love you, my little Miss Americana.
Love always,
Mom
Rachel leaned back in her seat, closing her eyes. When her mother died, she felt lost, didn’t know how to move forward, didn’t know how to continue with her life. Her father lost himself in alcohol, maybe even drugs. He disappeared for days, just to be laid down on the front porch by some of the men he worked with and for Rachel to get him inside, making sure he wouldn’t choke on his own vomit. She knew what he was doing. She knew who he worked for. From the day she was born she was part of a world she never wanted to be in, as she later realised. Movies and pop culture didn’t do this life justice. It wasn’t glorious or mysterious. It was scary and dark. Where other kids her age went to school and made new friends Rachel always had to stick to the kids from the family. To make sure she wouldn’t spill anything about her father’s work. Her mother had to fight hard with her husband to allow her to take Rachel to beauty pageants, after the little girl watched her mother getting dolled up for numerous pageants herself and wanting to be just like her when she was older. Rachel was talented, just like her mother. Her beauty apparent from a young age and it didn’t take long for her to win her first pageant. She loved competing in pageants. But what she loved even more was the time she spent with her mother. She was always so carefree and happy at the contests, a stark contrast to her usually quiet and almost depressed personality at home. She was always trying to not show Rachel how sad and worried she really was, but unfortunately it didn’t work out and Rachel had asked her more than once what was going on and why she was so sad.
"It’s nothing, my little Miss Americana, grown up stuff, nothing to worry about for you, my pretty girl." she had always said, followed by a kiss on Rachel’s forehead and a "I love you, my Rachel."
But with every year she got older she figured out more and more why her mother was so sad. And why the only times she was happy, careless and free, was when they went to pageants together. Because for a short while she could forget in what danger she was living with her daughter. What her husband did for a living. And the fear of the day where she, or worse Rachel, would have to pay the price of her husband’s job.
Ultimately she paid the price. After Rachel won the Miss Teen USA pageant in September 2016, and she had floated on cloud 9, her mother decided she deserved a treat and on the way home from Boston, where the pageant was held, she stopped at a little diner.
Rachel remembered how her mother ordered a strawberry milkshake and fries, she herself got a chocolate milkshake and fries and as soon as their food had arrived her mother looked around, a big grin on her lips before she nodded.
"No one’s watching… go!" she chimed and began dipping her fries into her milkshake.
Rachel laughed but did the same. Her father was always grossed out when his wife and daughter did that, laughing at them for their craziness, saying they better watch out or the food police would arrest them.
They were so happy that evening, her mother saying a million times how proud she was of her and what amazing and exciting times were ahead now for Rachel. But that happiness was gone in an instant when 2 men entered the dinner and her mother’s face turned to stone. She stopped laughing and looked at her daughter, shaking her head. To not draw any attention to them she silently held up her hand when the waitress looked over to them, signalling for her to come over. Paying in silence Rachel’s mother took her by the hand, guiding her outside, back into the car where she locked to doors immediately, starting the engine. She remembered how her mother called her father, telling him that two of Volkov’s men were at the diner. But before she could say anything she looked into the rear view mirror, her face turning pale when she told her husband that they were being followed. It didn’t take long for her mother to speed down the main road leading into Woburn, faster than ever before in her entire life. On speaker Rachel’s father telling her that their men were already on the way. But it was too late. She felt her mother grab onto her hand, clutching it tightly in her own, when the car was hit with something and soared through the air. She closed her eyes, holding onto the grab handle, listening to the sounds around her, when a searing pain shot through her left thigh. The pain was mind numbing and she tried her best to not focus on it. She tried to listen to the sounds around her but after a short while she only heard her own blood rushing into her ears. Then she felt her mother squeezing her hand and she opened her eyes, her first look was on the bright digital watch in the dashboard, then her mother squeezed her hand again and Rachel turned her head a little, looking at her.
"I’m so sorry, my beautiful Rachel. I love you so much." her final words as Rachel later had to find out.
After that night her father was never the same again. After that night Rachel was never the same again. She had to stay in the hospital for a couple of days, the doctors all confident that with the right care the wound on her right thigh, caused by an open break of her femur, would heal without leaving a big scar, so she could still compete in beauty pageants. But to her it didn’t matter. Without her mother she didn’t plan on continuing. And because of her not responding to any of the calls, mails or letters from the Miss Teen USA committee, regarding her upcoming tour through the United States, they stripped her off her title 6 weeks later, appointing her runner up, Caitlyn Summers, as new Miss Teen USA 2016.
Rachel absentmindedly rubbed her thigh, feeling the scarred skin through the thin fabric of her leggings. A reminder of the night that changed her life forever. That destroyed her life forever. She had to blink away tears, wiping her cheeks when Gabe knocked on the door, making her flinch.
"Rach! Dinner is ready!" his happy voice sounded through the door and the young girl cleared her throat.
"I’m coming in a minute Gabe!" she replied and listened to the sound of his steps on the gravel.
Rachel got up and looked into the mirror, wiping away the last remaining tears. It had been a while since she thought back to that night. The memories still too hurtful and real. After a minute of composure she followed Gabe back into the main house trying her best to not show the emotional turmoil she was feeling.
When Rachel went to bed that night she felt exhausted, drained, but also determined. Determined to escape her life in Woburn. Or Winchester. Escape her family. Live a happy life, just like her mother wanted her to. She would honour her mother’s last wish, give her all to do so. No matter what.

TWIN TUITION EPISODE ELEVEN
[Cai]
I am 12 weeks today! My goodness, the first trimester is horrific. I am sick EVERY SINGLE MORNING I wake up. Poor Jordan feels so helpless cause there is nothing he can do but rub my back. I still don’t have a bump yet. I’m pretty excited for that to happen, but my ob says I may have a few more weeks.
Tumblr media
Jordan is so excited about the twins. He’s basically told everyone he could think of. Well, except Coach…. I’m actually shocked he hasn’t found out yet, seeing as most of the team knows. He, my dad and uncle Noah are already in talks of building things for the nursery. We are converting our study room into a temporary nursery, as we are hoping to have our own home within the next year or two.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I’ll be meeting with my student advisor to talk about my senior year. She doesn’t know I am pregnant. I want to plan for what that will look like for me with having twins right before the school year begins.
[Cade]
Tumblr media
Taylor and I’s anniversary is coming up this weekend. It's so crazy to think that we’ve been together for almost 4 years… and we’re already married. I wouldn’t change it for the world. I love my wife so much. This year, I want to plan the night. Taylor always plans it because she’s the one who cooks (and it's always amazing food). This year, I want to plan something for us to show her how much I love and appreciate her. I had the cutest day planned. We are going to take a couples cooking class (I know she doesn’t need it) but I thought it would be fun for me to learn a little thing or two. Then after, I was going to take everything I learned and make her dinner. I know it won’t be top notch like her food, but I know she’ll love the effort. She plans to help out with prep in the morning, but will be home by 2:30 so we can start our activities. I can’t wait!

Fun fluffy animes that I loved
This is basically a list of animes that helps get over or deal with the trauma inflicted by various animes. At the moment, I guess fellow JJK fans might need this, and prolly AOT fans on November 5. Have fun watching
Haikyuu
Tumblr media
Short Synopsis: Determined to be like the volleyball championship's star player nicknamed "the small giant", Shoyo joins his school's volleyball club.
Episodes: 85 + 5 OVA
The worst thing that can possibly happen is either the 3rd year students graduating or you being unable to support a specific team (nah cuz bro how do you pick and root for one? I end up being happy for the team that won and depressed for the team that lost)
Two movies are coming up soon
Highschool Babysitters
Tumblr media
Synopsis: After the sudden death of their parents on a plane crash, two young brothers named Ryūichi Kashima (a freshman in high school) and his younger brother Kotarō (a preschooler) are left orphaned and having no place to call home. The chairwoman of the prestigious Morinomiya Academy offers to take the boys into her care, giving them a new house and free tuition, on the condition that Ryuichi helps out with the school's daycare center while also attending normal classes during school hours.
Episodes: 12 + 1 OVA
Note: Plane crash seems sad but trust me, its only mentioned in the first episode, and the rest 11 is just fluffy goodness. Nothing can prepare you for the cuteness.
Cells At Work
Tumblr media
Synopsis: One newcomer red blood cell just wants to do her job. Between bacteria incursions and meeting a certain white blood cell, she's got a lot to learn.
Episodes: 31 + 7
A good mix of science and entertainment. The episodes dont have to be watched in any specific order.
Mr. Osomatsu
Tumblr media
Synopsis: The everyday lives of identical sextuplets who cause mischief.
Episodes: 75 + special eps + movies
Has a good amount of 18+ jokes, but its not too overwhelming. It doesnt necessarily follow a plot, and each episode is usually two different stories combined. So, skipping episodes should be fine. Also, it features very popular voice actors for the sextuplets (Geto's VA, Gojo's VA, Levi's VA, Koro sensei's VA, Erwin's VA and Haku/ Sugawara's VA), Iyami (Obanai Iguro's VA), Totoko (Shoko's VA)
The Vampire Dies in No Time
Tumblr media
Synopsis: The story follows the famed vampire hunter, Ronaldo, who receives a job to destroy the supposedly invincible vampire lord Draluc and rescue a human boy he allegedly kidnapped.
Episodes: 24
Note: Its a hit or miss, the running gag is used constantly and gets tiring at times, but the overall anime is a good watch. I personally loved John the Armadillo
Buddy Daddies
Tumblr media
Synopsis: Assassins Kazuki Kurusu and Rei Suwa meet Miri, a girl looking for her father on Christmas Day. Kazuki, Rei, and Miri unexpectedly end up living together.
Episodes: 12
May get dark at times, so I wont guarantee that itll be a smooth sail, but we get a wholesome conclusion so you can count on that! Otherwise VERY fluffy
Blue Lock
Tumblr media
Synopsis: High school soccer players from across Japan gather for a controversial project designed to create the best and most egoistic striker in the world.
Episodes: 24
Isnt exactly true football, but yeah. The anime is pretty fine. It doesnt exactly go under the fluffy anime like i mentioned in the title, but you can check it out if you want.
Free!!
Tumblr media
Synopsis: The story is centered on high school student Haruka Nanase, a gifted swimmer. After encountering his childhood rival, Rin Matsuoka from Samezuka Academy, he and his friends revitalize Iwatobi High School's swim team.
Episodes: 37 + specials and movies
This anime to me, personally is what haikyuu is. A great comfort anime which knows how to make the viewer connect with the characters. I dislike it when the whole anime gets reduced to just fanservice, like guys lets look beyond that and actually enjoy the plot.
Life Lessons With Uramichi Oniisan
Tumblr media
Synopsis: From smoking and exercising to nihilistic outbursts, everyone's big brother Uramichi always brings up the not-so-moral side to his life lessons
Episodes: 13
This one is very real and relatable in many levels. Theres a lot of screenshots and panels available online, so you can check a few out before watching!
Obey Me
Tumblr media
Synopsis: Brothers Lucifer, Mammon, Leviathan, Satan, Asmodeus, Beelzebub, and Belphegor are among the most powerful demons in the Devildom, serving as officers on the student council at the Royal Academy of Diavolo (RAD). However, being avatars of the seven deadly sins, their behaviors often tend toward the extreme. Their everyday antics belie their high status and fearsome reputations among others of their kind. When viewed behind the scenes, the members of this family are more lovable—and laughable—than they first seem!
Episodes: 24 + 1
It's based on a popular otome game, and can be watched as it is even if you havent played the game. The basic idea is that theyre based on the 7 sins, so their personalities are really amusing. As for the plot, its pretty wholesome.
Play It Cool Guys
Tumblr media
Synopsis: Despite their distinctive personalities, Souma Shiki, Hayate Ichikura, Shun Futami, and Takayuki Mima all have one thing in common: though naturally clumsy, the four disguise their embarrassment from tiny slip-ups by maintaining a composed demeanor. However, it is actually the guys' airheaded natures that makes the girls' hearts throb. No matter what happens in their daily lives, the boys do their best not to lose their cool!
Episodes: 24
Each episode is barely 10-13 minutes, so it just doesnt feel enough lol. Most of their slip ups are relatable and could get a chuckle from the viewer. The art style is a little different but its good. Definitely worth watching, once or even multiple times.
Tanaka Kun is Always Listless
Tumblr media
Synopsis: For high school student Tanaka, the act of being listless is a way of life. Known for his inattentiveness and ability to fall asleep anywhere, Tanaka prays that each day will be as uneventful as the last, seeking to preserve his lazy lifestyle however he can by avoiding situations that require him to exert himself. Along with his dependable friend Oota who helps him with tasks he is unable to accomplish, the lethargic teenager constantly deals with events that prevent him from experiencing the quiet and peaceful days he longs for.
Episodes: 13 + specials
Not gonna lie, Ive wanted to act like Tanaka. The characters are lovable and the anime is worth giving a try. An underrated gem. I personally loved the school festival episode.
@satoruukisser hope this helps!

I was 12 years old when the far-right English Defence League (EDL) marched through my town of Luton. Teachers at my all-boys, majority Muslim state comprehensive told us to stay indoors. We were overwhelmingly working-class, the children of taxi drivers and factory workers for whom racist violence was a regular occurrence.
Many of us aligned with people organising the counter-demonstrations against the EDL and soon found other common ground. Alongside antifascism, the activists were vocal on foreign policy issues such as Iraq and Palestine, as well as the domestic issue of austerity.
When I visited my old school recently, I found very different political alliances. Teachers expressed concern about the growing influence of rightwing figures such as Andrew Tate. The influencer is part of a wider network, known loosely as the “manosphere”, which comprises anti-woke culture warriors, get-rich “crypto bros” and Donald Trump supporters. Here were young Pakistani and Bangladeshi boys taking part in a community that includes many who openly despise them. For example, Tate has previously met Tommy Robinson “untold times”, and in a 2022 interview he claimed that the EDL co-founder was “doing his very best to protect England from Islamisation”. To the surprise of many, later that year Tate converted to Islam.
It’s easy to understand the appeal of these influencers, who pose as self-help gurus, speaking directly to insecure young men of all races seeking to live better lives. The growing mental health crisis among young people and the longstanding stigma attached to any discussion of it in the Muslim community leads many vulnerable young men to seek solace in the words of influencers whose videos reference depression, anxiety and how to find motivation to move forward in life.
These young men quickly become enamoured of influencer lifestyles and seek to emulate them. Tate, in fact, grew up on the deprived Marsh Farm estate in Luton, and flaunts his money and flashy cars to impressionable young people. Crypto bros, made hyper-accessible through YouTube, TikTok and Instagram, actively encourage followers to invest in stocks and shares. A year-nine student approached me after I had given a talk at my former school and asked: “How do I become a millionaire without going to school?”
These young people are entering into an economy that is unequal, a society that is atomised and workplaces that are insecure. The idea that you can rise with your class rather than out of it has all but vanished. In Luton, nearly half of children are growing up in poverty. When ethnicity is factored in, figures show that in the UK, 67% of Bangladeshi children and 58% of Pakistani children are living in poverty. Like many areas of Britain, our town has been affected by deindustrialisation, cuts to public services and the resulting loss of social infrastructure. The decline in these spaces – youth clubs, libraries and community centres – has meant a decline in social interaction, too; the void has been filled by social media platforms.
During the Jeremy Corbyn years, many young people had a sense of hope that the state could improve their lives. I remember the long queues of young people outside the polling stations in Luton in 2017, and how many registered to vote at the stalls we used to run at the local sixth-form college. Many of us canvassed for the Labour party in Luton and in neighbouring Bedford. We were promised rent controls, the abolition of tuition fees, free travel, free wifi and an increase in the minimum wage.
Now, in the absence of such a project, many are increasingly turning to individual solutions peddled by online influencers. Why dismantle the system when you can become one of its beneficiaries? Why favour higher taxes that might one day come at your expense?
The pipeline for men of colour subscribing to rightwing influencers online to voting for rightwing parties at the ballot box was made clear during the US election. A record 46% of Hispanic voters opted for Trump – a 14-point increase from 2020. Trump also saw modest gains among Black men. Minority communities have suffered from the effects of globalisation, deindustrialisation and decline.
For far too long in the UK, progressives have taken for granted the votes of Black and Asian communities – but recent electoral events and reports show that this is ill-informed. Take Brexit: it is often depicted as the revolt of the white working class, but diverse towns and cities such as Luton, Bradford and Birmingham also voted to leave the European Union. A new report by UK in a Changing Europe shows British Bangladeshi, Black Caribbean and non-white Muslim and Christian voters are particularly likely to hold socially conservative views on issues such as crime and foreign aid in comparison with those from other ethnic or religious groups. Meanwhile, British Indian and Chinese voters are more likely to hold rightwing economic views. Both the former and current Conservative leaders, Rishi Sunak and Kemi Badenoch, are representative of this wider shift. Many ethnic minority voters already hold rightwing views, and we may see this point of view grow in younger generations as the online culture they consume is dominated by the right.
On the Marsh Farm estate where Tate grew up, there is an alternative model of self-help being pioneered by local residents. Marsh Farm Outreach prides itself on collectivism and face-to-face social interaction. Its bottom-up community-organising approach transformed a derelict 17th-century farmhouse into a community hub. The building is now home to a DJing academy for local children excluded from school, Luton’s first Black radio station and a restaurant and bar. Here, on the estate, few young men believe there are any heroes in Westminster coming to save them, but they have found support in a local community.
Bringing young people into their physical communities, and out of their online ones, may be one way to counter the rise of the right. As these young people reach voting age, time is running out for the Labour party.

Truth. I am feeling done with my SAHM days. I don’t know if it’s having twins (one deeply feeling kid and the other on the spectrum). Or just that I started staying home with my kids as a foster parent in 2015 (so managing extreme toddler emotions full time for 8 years). There are also other lifestyle changes that contribute, living somewhere without ‘help’ (my neighbor in TX used to come keep me company for two hours every morning, it was more companionship than actual help but it meant a lot to my sanity), and also that my husband has been traveling twice the amount that he did in TX.
We got an email saying there was a severe staffing shortage of paraprofessionals in our school district, especially in the special ed classrooms at the elementary school. A friend told me they would cover full-time tuition for the twins’ preschool, which would be perfect and the hours are the same as a school day.
I immediately applied and haven’t heard back. The man who sent the email, who is doing the interviews/hiring, is unfortunately the same man I had to write the email to this summer when I pulled George from ESY. My email was polite (I am a people pleaser) but it did not make friends and the head of special ed is not nice to me when I bump into her in person (her boss is the one I sent the email to).
Justin thinks it’s a no-go, and it could be. They’d have to put Gen in a different class (because her class is strictly part-time) and they would have George all day (which I don’t think would be a staffing issue with their current setup). I know they have previously scheduled interviews for next week, so maybe they want to get through those first before contacting me, who knows. My friends think I shouldn’t stress about not hearing back because it’s the first week of school/they’re crazy busy.
But also, if they know they have a “severe” shortage of staff, why do they wait to write an email begging for people to apply once school has already started?
Anyway. My plan is once the twins are in school (George in the mornings for a total of 12 hours a week, Gen full days twice a week for a total of 10 hours, so only 5 hours intersect/so 5 hours kidless) to finish my real estate classes and get that ball rolling, because it would be flexible enough to do while they’re still in school part time. Although in reality 5 hours kidless a week isn’t enough time to do much of anything.
My friends don’t get why I don’t just find a full time job somewhere, but I don’t understand how that would work. In Texas, things are designed for that (longer school days, longer aftercare). Here preschool is 9am -2pm, so 5 hours. You can pay a lot of money to drop them off an hour before school starts, and pick them up an hour after school ends, but still you would have to leave your work day at 2:30 to get there in time because there are no jobs out here or in surrounding towns (country living).
Also, summer. I have a kid on the spectrum, I can’t just ship him away to camp. And camps for 3 kids is $$$. I don’t think I’ve really thought about what you do with your kids in the summer while working full time until this very moment. I mean most people do it so it’s doable but wow, stressful..

I didn't do my end of the year questions last year and it messed up the year for me so HERE YA GO:
1. What did you do in 2024 that you’d never done before?
Man, I don't know really? I feel like I used to have so many each year and now I'm struggling to think of any. I went to LA for the first time?
2. Did you keep your New Year’s resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I don't know what my resolution was but I'm pretty sure I didn't do it.
3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
No.
4. Did anyone close to you die?
No, but basically yes. That's me being a touch dramatic but like, it really does feel like a certain someone died.
5. What countries did you visit?
None.
6. What would you like to have in 2025 that you lacked in 2024?
Clear skin.
7. What dates from 2024 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
None, shit memory, nothing crazy happened this year.
8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Surviving. It was a bit of a rough one.
9. What was your biggest failure?
I would have liked to achieve more and be more confident in myself by now. It's mostly many small failures in that way. Like, I'm still mad at myself for not presenting my finals well. I did fine in class overall but it was a bit of a bummer at the end there.
Also like, my financials in general are very not great.
10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Not really, which is good. I had the flu which was scary for a hot second because I had a 104° fever that wouldn't break, and I ain't got no health insurance so I was worried I was going to be forced to go to the doctor and pay out of pocket, which lead to me having a panic attack while already fevering. But I was fine in the end.
11. What was the best thing you bought?
I barely bought anything this year that wasn't rent, credit card payments, or tuition. Or Celsius.
12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
God, I don't know. Let me know. I would like to know.
13. Whose behavior made you appalled?
Not naming names....... but rest assured there was appalling behavior.
14. Where did most of your money go?
See #11, lol.
15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
School. But I won't make that mistake again. I think school is bad for me mental healths. But we stay silly.
16. What song will always remind you of 2024?
The entire Arcane soundtrack.
17. Compared to this time last year, are you: (a) happier or sadder? (b) thinner or fatter? (c) richer or poorer?
SADDER FATTER POORER
the holy trifecta 😎👍
18. What do you wish you’d done more of?
Make money.
19. What do you wish you’d done less of?
Doubt and despair.
20. How did you spend Christmas?
Went back home. My second oldest sister was with her in-laws on Christmas Day, so we shifted our Christmas to the 26th. So, on the actual day of, I was just kind of chilling with my folks, we had lasagna, watched The Holiday, and played some games.
21. Did you fall in love in 2024?
Oh yeah, always falling in love babey.
22. What was your favorite TV program?
Arcane, Blue Eye Samurai, Dungeon Meshi, What We Do in the Shadows, Law and Order: SVU were my lifeblood. Also rewatched Danny Phantom. Started a lot of good shows I'm yet to finish--literally took a TV history class and I have a huge To Watch list.
23. Do you hate anyone now that you didn’t hate this time last year?
(weary sigh) No, I'm not cut out to hate people.
24. What was the best book you read?
Honestly, most of my reading was academic this year so I didn't finish many books. But House of Leaves was pretty wild and fun. That is one of maybe 3 books I finished this year ahahahaha.
25. What was your greatest musical discovery?
I didn't "discover" Will Wood this year but I finally gave in and listened to more of his discography, discovered many bangers, which is how he ended up as my #2 on Spotify Wrapped.
26. What did you want and get?
Feedback on my art. Got to go home during summer which was nice too.
27. What did you want and not get?
Better. Wait, is that too general of an answer?
28. What was your favorite film of this year?
The Wild Robot.
29. What one thing made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Not dying?
30. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2024?
Whatever doesn't have holes in it (and some things that have less obvious holes too)
31. What kept you sane?
Friends.
32. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Well, I support that guy who shot that insurance CEO... Don't know if I'd go as far as 'fancy' though.
33. What political issue stirred you the most?
God... I don't know. I feel like the world is a ton of bricks and we're getting pelted by it all the time. And it was fucking election year, and look how that turned out...... but I will try not to fall into despair.
34. Who did you miss?
I miss my bro-in-law :(
35. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2024.
I learned something big and important but I can't remember how I articulated it. I've been having issues with self-worth, and often I fall back to old failures to make things worse, and I've learned that focusing too much on failure doesn't just prevent more failure, it prevents any movement at all including progress or success. So, I've been doing better with that.
So, I guess I've been learning to let things go more.
36. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year.
I had the perfect lyric for this but I can't remember what song it was anymore. It was like literally one random line in a song.... gr... this will bother me. If I think of it, I'll let everyone know and update it.
For now you can have this:

I had a really interesting Skype conversation with my uncle in England on the weekend which indirectly referenced the contempt non-residents are held in at Hillerska. He went (as did my father and my other uncle) to Abberley Hall (a now defunct prep school in Shropshire for boys aged 8-12) and then to Rugby School in Warwickshire (a fairly prestigious "public" - which actually means private and expensive) boarding school for boys aged 13-18. It's still around, now co-ed.
I asked him how day boys (non-residents who lived locally with their parents and paid much lower fees as a result) and scholarship boys were treated by boys whose parents were paying full fees. The answers were illuminating of Simon and Sara's position at Hillerska.
At Abberley, my uncle couldn't recall any scholarship boys. I guess at 8, you're a little young for academic scholarships. Blows my mind, by the way, that well-off British people routinely sent their sons off to boarding school at only 8 years old. But I digress. There were some day boys who lived locally, and he remembered some snobbery against them.
His memories of Rugby were much more interesting. The nearby town of Rugby was fairly large, even back in 1954 when he started there, aged 13. He was a boarder on full fees. There were a fair number of boys living off-campus in the town, attending on reduced fees because they weren't boarding. They were all grouped together in Town House. The boarders used to make fun of them because they usually came from rather more modest backgrounds than the boarders.
Still not actually modest as in working class, because even day fees for a prestigious school were quite expensive. But the assumption by the boarders was usually not that Town House boys were there because their parents wanted them home at night and found a prestigious school's proximity convenient. The assumption was that their parents couldn't afford to give them a "real" boarding school education.
Also, many of the day boys did not have the typical public school accent beaten into them (when I say beaten in, I mean that literally. Rugby was very big on corporal punishment). So their regional Midlands accents were mocked by the boarders. Who all spoke Received Pronunciation no matter where in the UK they'd grown up.
The boys who were there on scholarship, though, really got it in the neck. Whether they were living locally and part of Town House, or lived far away and were boarding, it was always known who was a scholarship boy. They got a lot of mockery because everybody knew for damn sure their parents couldn't afford the fees. They were called "swots", because they were only at Rugby due to studying so hard.
The only scholarship boys who didn't get bullied for being poor were the ones who were also very good at sports. There was one scholarship boy in my uncle's year and house who was extremely good at rugby (or rugger as they called it at Rugby, to distinguish the sport from the school at which it originated). He mostly did not get any flack from the boarders, even though he studied hard and had excellent grades. The other scholarship boys, though, they got flack.
Now, Simon and Sara are not at Hillerska on scholarship, because by law, Swedish schooling is free. Nonetheless, Hillerska offers MANY more enrichment opportunities than the average public school which is getting the same exact same amount of money per student from the Swedish government. Apparently when the government decreed that schools could no longer charge for tuition, boarding schools just pivoted. They didn't lower their fees one bit, they simply claimed the money was all going towards room and board.
Note in 1.02, Headmistress Anette Lilja even refers to August's missing tuition payment as tuition. Even though theoretically it's just a fee for room and board. Anette is old enough that for most of her professional life, Hillerska would've charged tuition and called it that officially. So yeah, the boarders probably feel like the fees their parents are paying are subsidizing the "freeloader" non-boarders.
Simon and Sara, even though they're not there on scholarships technically, are probably the Swedish equivalent of scholarship students. Hillerska would only accept the cream of the crop of non-boarders, students who will be an asset to the school and bring up their grade point average. Sara probably got in because of her grades. Simon probably got in partly for grades (he said in 1.02 that he got straight As at Marieberg) and partly for his musical talent.
Hillerska is a very exclusive school. They don't need to accept any student they don't want to, especially non-boarders whose parents aren't shelling out an arm and a leg in tuition. Hillerska accepted the Eriksson siblings because it benefited them to do so. But the other students, whose parents are paying full fees, won't necessarily see it that way.
Especially with Simon, who refuses to act grateful and humble about this opportunity to be among his social betters. Sara gets kind of a pass because she accepts the Hillerska hierarchy and doesn't complain about it or fight against it. But Sara also had a much more traumatic experience at Marieberg than Simon did.
So she's just keeping her head down and is grateful to merely be ignored rather than actively picked on. Plus, there are horses she gets to be around. Plus, Hillerska is a very structured environment with lots of rules. For Sara, being on the spectrum, it's probably helpful to know exactly what the rules are.

hii can i know your daily routine from morning to night. i also want to know how you manage writing and how you manage your tumblr. i want to know what major you study. i want to know because i am new to tumblr and managing time is hard for me. if you feel this ask uncomfy, you can ignore me.
afraid you asked the wrong person for this cuz my daily ( mostly evening & night ) routine is VERY different from each other throughout the whole week because of my tuition classes/study schedule TT but no probs, i'll try to give u my routine in the best way possible ^^
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
𖹭 MY DAILY ROUTINE
MORNING & AFTERNOON (≧∇≦)
Tumblr media
6:00 — 6:30 am : wake up time boooo. although this time varies during exam season or when i pull an all nighter/ sleep late cuz i was watching a series, this is the usual time i wake up, or at least try to every single day ><
6:30 — 7:30 am : brushing teeth/skincare etc + morning workout & pilates. i usually try to do the first part is lesser time so that i have more time to workout & stretch ^^
7:30 — 8:05 am : break/creativity period. here i give myself a 35 minute break for relaxation or checking social media / practicing my italian lessons ( im vv beginner >< ) or draw or write short essays/poems or plan out my day which is the MAIN task i usually do
8:05 — 9:05 am ( 30 min gap 4 chai + breakfast break ) , 9:35 — 10:35 am, 10:35 — 11:45 am, 12:05 — 1:05 pm : with breaks, these timing are for my studying, and i follow my study routine for the day >< [ WHEN I DON'T ATTEND SCHOOL ]
1:05 — 3:15 pm : shower + lunch >< [ WHEN I DON'T ATTEND SCHOOL, i return at 3pm from skl ]
EVENING (≧∇≦)
Tumblr media
3:15 — 5:00 pm : relaxing & writing for blr/watching shows ( or i sleep TT ) >< ONLY IF i don't have tuitions, when i do, i head out for them around 4:30 — 5:00 pm according to the timing of my classes.
(after break 4 evening snacks/chai) 5:30 — 6:30 pm, 6:30 — 8:30 pm, 9:00 — 10:00 pm, with breaks again, i follow my study schedule ><
NIGHTTIME (≧∇≦)
Tumblr media
10:00 — 10:30 pm : have dinner
10:30 — 11:00 pm : ghost around my home / free time TT
within 11:30ishpm : finish skincare, brushing, and take my meds
after that o clock : 😴 but if i pull an all nighter or watch a series with my mum that's another story lol
Tumblr media
𖹭 MY MAJOR/STREAM
well i'm still in school so i don't have any major, but we indian students are given to choose between 3 streams — science, commerce & humanities. as for me i am a science student ^^ i have bio, chem, phy, maths, psych, eng !!!
Tumblr media
𖹭 TIME MANAGEMENT
again, a hard question to the wrong person cuz my schedule is not constant TT but as u can see there are breaks between my study sessions! i tend to manage my time and do stuff between those breaks, and when life gets too hectic, i take hour long breaks and write for blr! keep in mind, that you NEED TO BALANCE life & social media. find the right time for each of your important sectors like studies, work, hobbies & schedule them out equally! that also doesn't mean you have to follow them blindly, make sure to take breaks, do things that you enjoy & love life & most importantly, your precious self ^^ MWAH. hope i helped ya <333

Me while watching Home School Episode 9:
1. So, is Master Dilak a former student who was successfully "re-programmed" (similar to what they did to Hugo, Jingjai, and Run)?
2. Well, Mek and Mork, I got news for you - Dad loves neither of you. He doesn't even love your Mom. Unfortunately, he is just a sh*tty parent with an overall sh*tty personality.
3. Oh, no. If locking the Fab FourTM (Maki, White, Nai, and Tibet) in detention is part of Master Champ's ploy to seed chaos with GEN6, I fear for my babies, Pennhung and Phleng. The rest, I could care less lol.
4. Why do I feel like the Headmaster (played by Cindy) would eventually go against Master Amin? I just can't figure out yet if she will switch sides to support the students or will she be a more nefarious villain? Maybe Master Amin is not as villainous as he seems to be 🤔🤔🤔
5. Mek and Mork asking the right questions: what kind of parents would send their kids to a school with no known curriculum and a million baht-per-term tuition?
6. Pennhung, my child, please also store other food groups. You need more than croissants to last this hellhole 😅
7. Oh gods. Hugo and Jingjai. I share Jean's reaction during the "fight" 😅😅😅 At least, they are still flirty with each other even though we still have no idea whatever the f— Master Amin did to them as punishment for coupling.
8. I might be riding the Fuji hate train, but gods damn. Girl knows how to end a fight lol. Sorry, Jean.
9. Nooooo, Baby Phleng 😭😭😭 Biw, don't make me smack you. <after 10 seconds> Okay, we're good. All too well because I like Pringkhing ever since The Shipper.
10. Nooooo, Baby Pennhung 😭😭😭😭 Mek, I swear, if you hurt Pennhung I WILL SMACK YOU. <after 10 seconds> Oh gods, I AM OFFICIALLY IN LOVE WITH MEK. Solidarity, ftw. Shut up, Master Champ.
11. I'm starting to think Home School is either an unconventional juvenile centre or a freaking school for future assassins (judging by Run's abilities and his morbid past of killing their dad).
12. Sorry, but if the Fab Four had started kneeling before lunch all the way to sun down, how cold is that tea that the Head Master is sipping? Or did somebody replenish the hot tea (and pastries) all through the day? And with all that tea sipping, didn't she feel the need to pee? Just curious lol.
13. I'm dying to know what Master Dilak's deal is. Also, based on MDL, this series has 18 episodes (unless they got it wrong again like in Midnight Museum). So, the class planning their escape next episode is hardly the climax, but I do hope they start revealing the truth about Home School.
On to the next episode then 😊
