Whoever wrote that percy jackson au of the dead boy detectives, you live under my skin and I love you. So much so that my brain tried to think of a way to make it even more canon-accurate without making them dead. or reborn Hazel Levesque style.
What I have so far is playing on the whole West civilization bit and how it moved to the.. well west - but also that World War 2 was a big three kid conflict? So. I have sort of a time-table and I'm throwing it out of the window.
Edwin is a child of Athena - that much stays the same - who is very bookish and very studious but not in the way the rest of his siblings are. They are handy and crafty, strategic and interested in architecture or design. He.. is not. (I need a reason why his siblings didn't come to help him when the "death scene" happens.)
The whole boarding school is one of many spread across the London countryside - Chiron moves a lot. They teach both ancient and modern warfare because magic or not you can't escape the bloodshed forever - you either get drafted or you run and get blacklisted somewhere or another.
(St Hilarion was actually a son of Apollo that got really popular during the Crusades - Zeus didn't smite the school when it was established because times are different and Hera would be angry if there was another big fire with no explanation that put their soldiers'- eh-hem- kids' lives at risk.)
They still teach Latin alongside Greek because it was what all normal boarding schools did and that's what they were. Maths, English, and Sciences - were all taught to the boys. The girls went to another school - where they were taught the bare minimum to survive. Because sexism was rampant and if the Romans were on the wrong side of the civil war, that means no matter how progressive the gods could have been in certain areas, they aren't now/then–
Artemis really, really hated that time period. Zoë or this version of Zoë got a kick out of shooting so many assholes in the face. Or in their dicks. They also got way more recruits than in later years. Silver lining.
Anyways: Simon - son of Hecate - and the bunch of boys, one of which was a son of Hades, do the whole let's sacrifice Edwin. Only the book is a Christian book on witchcraft that Simon truly didn't think would work. He and the rest - Hades boy included - did the whole preparation of the sacrifice as it was absolutely terrifying for Edwin to experience on top of everything else. They didn't know it was a real thing - but is the only reason why Edwin stays alive.
It's essentially a stasis charm that lets the ritual run for as long as needed without the poor victim dying beforehand. It requires bloodletting and "runes" and such. The thing is scary, traumatizing stuff so it seemed like a fun thing for Simon and his buddies to do. So they did it.
They skimmed the reading. Blood with power is spilled, ritual that is very real gets haphazardly done and so monsters get involved.
Fun fact, that I'm really hoping is actually true - sometimes monsters with names similar to other religions' occult beings pick up the summoning calls. If the ritual is shoddy enough for them to hear, the participants all die either way, it's only important who gets there first.
So. The bullies get killed and a fury-type thing drags Edwin's whole being to the fields of punishment so it can feast on its offering. He gets dusted Sally Jackson style.
We enter his hell era. ( Part 2, Part 3, TBC )
#dead boy detectives#edwin payne#i need this boy tortured to the morrow of his bones without throwing him into tartarus#pjo au#dbd au#charles rowland#will get here#he is a son of ares and i love the whole how he and his mom get together bit i thought of#should i make them older? or do i chuck them in the british lotos casino#they can solve crimes there I'm sure i can think of something#charles and edwin will be so time displaced in this#should crystal be a demigod a clear sighted mortal or a legacy#hhh niko should be a demigod. or be blessed by one#artemis? hmmm#ideas ideas ideas#i really am pushing simon redemption in here and neither i nor edwin are happy about it#i will have to research on the fields of punishment#aka i need to reread hades key thing from the journals#look it's either a wall of text or i find a way to scream into the void

Ok... so I just saw moana 2, and I have ALOT to say....
WARNING!!! SPOILERS FOR THE MOVIE TO THOSE WHO HAVEN'T SEEN IT YET!!!...
(YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!!!)
Ok,SO i finally saw Moana 2, and...it was...actually good, It was not just good... It WAS GREAT!!! like I know people are hating it cause..."we are supposed to hate Morden disney cause why not😒" but like the hate for this movie along with other animated movies mad by Disney like Wish and elemental(i know that movie is made by pixar but still...), feel kinda...forced...I get it moana 2 has flaws and it may not be as great as the first one and of course it needed to be better but that doesn't make it bad and I have things to say about it starting with:
The Characters

They are fine and quite simple. The characters who join moana on her new adventure, Loto,Moni, and Kele are actually really good characters. I like their designs and different body shapes and (LOVE Loto's little streak of blonde hair...) and how different their personalities are from one another, like Kele not liking the ocean at first but eventually starting to like it or Loto, who likes to make ALOT of changes, especially with boats she literally says "perfection is none existened" like gurl...Moni...why is he kinda HO- Kele is my one of my favourite characters in the movie cause I love how much grump and some sass he brings and I love it...as for moana she has changed alot in the sequal and now has a sister simea and omg their sisterhood is sooo cute (like I know saying "big sis" or "lil sis" to each other is kinda cringe...but I'll take it)and I wish we got to see there relationship more and see simea more cause she is soooo adorable speaking of getting more screen time...
THIS DIVA!!!

She had like one of the best songs in the entire movie. Oh my...to the actress who voiced her deserves a reward cause them VOCALS!!! 😩🤌(HER RIFFS ARE GIVING ME LIFE!!!)While she is a diva, she has a problem... they make her have almost no screen time, and I wish we did cause she is an ICON!!.Anyway, I don't want to keep u long, so:
Story:7/10 (could have been better :/ but at least it was entertaining).
Animation:10/10(It's still as visually stunning as the previous moana👏)
Characters: 8/10(Like I said simple but still entertaining in their own way).
Songs:7/10(Even tho Lin Minual didn't come back after the first Moana, the songwriters of the film were still cooking when it came to the music, especially when there are songs like Beyond,Can I get a Chee hoo and Get lost).
So overall, Moana 2 is a:
7/10
Could have it been better as a series with multiple hours than a full-blown 2-hour movie(LIKE IT WAS PLANED TO BE!!!) Yeah, very much,BUT that does not make it any bad by any means, and I actually recommend it to anyone who loved the previous Moana or a first-time viewer, so yeah, Moana 2 is a pretty good film :D.
#Moana 2#i am soo sorry i took this long💀#Even tho it is not my favourite film#it was still entertaining#i also LOVED how they expanded more of the different cultures of the Pacific at the end of the movie!!!#anyway...#moana#Maui#matangi#Loto#Moni

some thoughts on the moana 2 novelization, as threatened promised <3 under a readmore for spoilers and also because I don't trust myself to keep it short
(friendly reminder that I do not ship Maui and Moana! you can rb, but don't be weird about it)
Genuinely right off the bat I can't get over how loving Moana is described to be? She just loves others so much. She always describes Pua and HeiHei as her friends rather than her pets because of how much she cares about them!! it's so stupid cute that not only does she refer to Pua as her "loyal, adorable friend", but it's also implied that she handmade the little satchel he likes to ride in just for him. It eats me up inside!! She cares so much!!
The center island she's looking for is spelled as Motufetū!! I always love getting confirmation for these things, it makes things so much easier as a fic writer.
One of the souveniers she takes back with her alongside the broken pottery is a "massive clam". hello???? foreshadowing??? did everyone know about the giant clam guardian??
"For a man who had once forbidden her from going beyond the reef, he now spent quite a lot of time beyond it himself." AUUWHAAHHH THAT LINE KILLED ME WE LOVE TO SEE GROWTH FROM TRAUMA
"He loved her enthusiasm, but she seemed overexcited, and she was still his daughter, and he wanted to take care of her" MOANA!!! IS!!! SO LOVED!!!!
Loto's tool is called an adze! also she's apparently only 17?? two years younger than Moana?? not at all what I would've pegged her as, honestly
The storytelling tapestries are called siapos!!! more terminology!!!
"Her eyes darted to the image of Maui carved into the wall. She hadn't seen him since her return to Motunui, and she missed him. Not that she would admit it out loud" STRANGLING YOU STRANGLING YOU STRANGLING YOU
"Humans, were in fact, why he was here now, in this unknown realm of the gods looking at the pinkish white ball in front of him. At least, he thought that might be why he's here. These missions to benefit humans didn't always come with clear instructions" immediately followed by thinking about the trip to Te Fiti with Moana. What a dumbass <3 "I'm doing it for them and I don't know why? totally unrelated note haha that trip to Te Fiti with Moana was fun :)"
Never saw any of that journey coming, never could brute force his way through it, worth every second. Only considers getting the hook back as an afterthougt, ougghhhhhhh
Homeboy sucks at pretending that he doesn't care about Moana. He's talking to Matangi for all of two seconds and he's all "I'm a changed person! For um. no particular reason! It was definitely because of the thousand year isolation and nothing else whatsoever!"
There's no finite explanation for why Maui's there, but he credits Moana for making him a better person for being the reason. Something about breaking the curse? It's never made clear, even in the book.
Mini Maui selling him out for bullshitting about hating Moana is even funnier in the book, like Maui goes "yeah lol that girl was just a tool I uused to get my hook back" and Mini Maui starts pounding on him. Homeboy Moana can't even hear you and you're still mad at Maui for bullshitting, it kills me. Maui tries shooting him down. "Mini Maui wasn't convinced" has me in stitches
Maui's internal dialogue shifting to "oh wait, yeah, I wanted to surprise her with a visit. Oops." while he's tied up also has me in stitches. ffs, maui, get your priorities straight
"He refused to let Moana be hurt or threatened" I am on the floor
Every time Tui calls Moana "my dear" it adds ten years to my lifespan
The siapo of Maui in the storytelling fale is so lifelike that "it's as if he were about to jump off the fabric at any moment and start teasing her." that's so stupid cute!!!! also so stupid sad that she probably talks to it a lot hoping that it'll work someday. ough.
"Maui was having a bad day. Actually, he was having a lot of bad days"." feels like it was pulled right from a fic I would've written in 2018, I'm screaming
"I don't need her to save me...again" swallowing the earth as we speak
Curly still being the default nickname is also taking me out I need to be given financial compensation asap
There's a parallel that got lost in translation from page to movie, there's the bit where Moana's like "I'm sure Maui's off doing important demigod stuff, wherever he is", but there's also a bit of internal monologue where Maui's like "I hope Moana's faring better than I am, wherever she is" I'm gonna conk their heads together y'all need to communicate
The book directly mentions Moana and her crew passing Te Fiti. Did I miss that from the movie? Did they show Te Fiti, or is this a book-exclusive detail?
Their little Kakamora buddy has a name!! Kotu we don't deserve you. Also he's the Chief Kakamora's son! I just thought he was second in command. That's a whole baby
Maui knows who Pua is, somehow! He sees Pua waddling around and his first thought is "okay, this is weird, why do these people have Moana's pig with them?". Doesn't even remotely click that she could be with them. He's actually about to leave until HeiHei shows face and boy is he absolutely mortified. It eats me up inside. Instant shift of "goodbyeeeeee random humans I don't liiiike!!!" to oh shit, oh shit, oh shit, where is she????
Incredibly suspicious that Moana is the human that has all the gods talking. Something too about Maui having to force himself not to care about her. Did someone do a little too much bragging about his favorite human?
"I thought you'd be...more." okay a) I def think Maui's been overhyping her and b) haha More callback we love to see it
Also, Matangi's just a demigoddess! Not a goddess at all. interesting, interesting, interesting
Moana also sucks at priorities, one single mention of Maui and she instantly shifts to oh, oh my god, is he here? is he nearby? where is he?
Moana recognizes the Portal of the Gods as similar to the entrance to Lalotai...does that mean Lalotai is connected to the Realm of the Gods, in some way? are they the same place under a different name? also all :') that the dance she does to open the portal is specifically meant to be a copy of the haka that Maui did in the first movie.
You know, I think you need her just as much as she needs you. WHAT DOES IT MEAAAN? WHAT DOES IT MEAN? WHAT DOES IT MEAN??? WHERE DID THAT COME FROM???? YOU NEED EACH OTHER??? WHY DO THE GODS KNOW?? WHY DO THE GODS KNOW????
The first thing Moana does when she's back on her canoe is look for Maui because she thinks he's gone 🥹 wants to go back and look for him until she realizes he's the reason she's dangling in the air. Did he stop her from falling off the canoe? ough, I'm deceased
I can't get over Moana assuming he just wants to catch up, they are both such chronic babblers.
"His expression was both happy and annoyed." I'm losing my shit.
"But yeah, it is good to see you again" 🥹🥹🥹🥹🥹🥹🥹🥹🥹.
"The fire in the sky lead us to you" can we stop with the written in the stars stuff. can we stop. my poor heart can't take it. platonic soulmates fr. "maybe we're supposed to do this together." THE GODS KNOW!!!! THEY KNOW!!!
"Maui bit back a smile." kill me. kill me. i'm dead on the spot. kill me.
Ohhhhh, I always love seeing what they do in place of the songs and the replacement for "Can I Get a Chee-Hoo?" kills me most of all, I think. Maui still goes to sit with her, but when Moana starts talking about all the people she's gonna let down, he comes to a screeching halt when she mentions Simea.
"If anyone should be upset, it should be me. Since when do you have a sister?"
"You would've met her, if you ever came to visit me." OUCH! OUCH! OUCH!!! She's trying to tease him but there's a tinge of hurt in her voice, like she feels like he doesn't care enough about her to take the time for her!! You need her as much as she needs you!!!!!
"Three years is a blip to me, princess," says the liar who thought about her on a near-daily basis!!!!
"Empathy wasn't Maui's strong suit. But he seemed to be trying- for her. and that dulled the pain a little" i am in my grave. i am in my grave.
"Why are you even here?" -> "Because...because I've been low before, and I couldn't see my path. And someone came along who I underestimated and she lifted me up. Someone I don't want to underestimate herself right now." THROWING UP!!!!!
"Wow, you're the worst at this." -> "Maui pretended to look offended" conking their heads together as we speak they are so SWEET!!!!!
Maui giving her all the credit for being the one to defeat Nalo!!! not himself!!!! her!!!!!!!
"Maui said he was better for knowing her. That had to count for something" 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
It still destroys me that Maui's entire priority is keeping Moana safe!!! He's not just diving in to fight, he keeps going back to make sure they're all safe!!! that's all that matters to him!!!
God their little exchanges are so stupid they're killing me. "Nalo doesn't care about you!" "Yes he does! I'm Maui!!" "THAT'S NOT WHAT I MEANT!!!" dumbasses <3
oooh he really doesn't want to separate, his eyes keep going back and forth between Moana and the monster storm :')
Okay. okay. okay. listen. there's a lot more to Maui's goodbye in the book than in the movie. In the book it's an apology. It's a rushed explanation on why he hadn't gone back to visit her prior. He lied about not having the time for her. All his time has been about and for her.
The reason I didn't visit...was 'cause you made me want to be better. You deserve the whole ocean...I wanted you to have it. Watch yourself out there. I could pull up millions of islands, but if you're not there to land on them, what's the point?
FOR!!!! HER!!!!! EVERYTHING!!!! IS!!!!! FOR!!!!! HER!!!!!
He hated leaving Moana and her crew behind,
He trusted her.
God, coud you imagine? First movie Maui, getting his hook destroyed? Those three words hold more power than anything. He trusted her. If anyone can do this it's her. He trusts her. He trusts her.
His thoughts kept drifting back to Moana. Nothing else matters!!! He could be all full of himself and think about how heroic he's being for The Humans (other) and all he's thinking about is his Favorite Human.
The thought of failing her pushed on him as the weight of the water grew heavy.
WHO WROTE THIS!!!! WHO READ OUR FANFICS!!!!! WHO KNEW!!!!!
His tattoos glowing with the power of the gods the first time he tries lifting Motufetū.....were there other gods that were helping him? are there gods who know?? Te Fiti if you're out there,,,,,,,,,
Moana rushing to protect Maui when lightning barely misses him the first time is.........destroying me?? taking me out??? imagine being protective over a demigod literally pulling an island out of the sea. imagine trying to take many hits for him. using her conch shell to call out to the storm to hit her instead? Maui yelling at her to Not do that? probably because it's breaking his own heart to watch?? ough.
"It went against every instinct, but Moana knew she had to listen to him." THAT'S ALSO GROWTH!!! KEEPING THEM BOTH SAFE BY NOT PUSHING HERSELF FROWARD!!!! GROWTH!!!!!
Maui getting hit by three strikes of lightning, and he uses what he thinks are his last dying moments to say goodbye to Moana. He locks eyes with her, gives her a sad smile, and yells Find your way, kid. Just to her. Just loud enough that she's the only one who can hear. and oh boy is this book brutal about that fourth and "fatal" lightning strike. It's strong enough to fry him. It launches him up so high in the air that Moana can't even see him
So, uh...fun fact! The reason Moana doesn't instantly dive in the water to go after him is because she thinks she's too late and that he's dead on impact. She doesn't even see him hit the water.
"Moana gasped as she felt her necklace pop open and her shell- Simea's shell- toppled out. Frantically, she reached for it, ignoring the danger around her. She couldn't lose that shell. She had already lost so much."
She thinks of everyone she loves when she's about to dive into the water and reach for Motufetū herself and Maui's among them right alongside her family. God. If there were ever a more indirect found family confirmation............
Lightning flashed, illuminating the sky and filtering through the water. Moana hoped that her crew was okay. That Maui had somehow survived. RIGHT!!! FROM!!!! THE FICS!!!! I SWEAR THIS IS PULLED RIGHT FROM THE OLD FICS!!!
His hook was missing, but he didn't care. He dove in after Moana. Hi, yes, 2018-era me is screaming out from inside me. She's clawing her way out of my chest. This is everything she's ever needed.
Fun fact part two! I don't remember how it was in the movie, but Maui watches Moana die too!! I think in the movie he just sees her still body on the surface of Motufetū, but in the book he dives under the water just a moment sooner and helplessly watches the lightning strike through her body. He watches her go still and sink towards the ocean floor :) Now they both have the trauma of watching each other die! :) :)
He tries desperately to catch her before she hits the floor but there are multiple instances of him being knocked back by a shockwave :') The gods sure have found his weakness!!!
He pushed through it. Nothing was stopping him from reaching Moana.
The grieving!!! The grieving is so fierce!!
Isn't it fun?? He practically has a burial ceremony for her! He catches her before her body hits the floor, and he places her gently on the surface of the island so she can fulfill her story! God! I'm unwell! He places Simea's little shell next to her body so Moana can be close to her sister one final time!
Then, kneeling next to her, he put his hand to his heart. It rested on the tattoo of Moana that had appeared after their last adventure. It had been his constant reminder in the three years since how strong a human could be. 🥹🥹🥹😭😭😭😭😭😭🥹😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
It's just...he doesn't even realize the ocean is creating a dome around them! He's that grief-striken!!
The ocean knows them. It knows what they need. He calls it Moana's. Moana's ocean. aUGGHHHHHH.
Hey so all of that talk about Maui not allowing himself to let the gods know that Moana's his friend and then he's begging them. He's begging the gods and her (her? his? huamnity in general?) ancestors to save her because she deserves more than this. she deserves better. If any of the gods knew nothing of the two of them they sure as hell did now, ohhhhhh boy is that gonna screw him over later :')
So the book never explicitly states she's a demigoddess either! It very ominously states that She'll never be the same.
Moana gets to see her ancestors this time! I can't remember if she woke up before they disappeared in the movie, but when she wakes up her thought process goes wait, where am I? to oh, shit, MAUI?!?!? to TAUTAI VASA? TALA?? HELLO??? someone please invent therapy already she's gonna need it pretty desperately
god imagine if she thought maui was also dead?? she doesn't but ohhhh. ohhhhhh the angst potential of her thinking they're all there to see her off. god.
Shock and awe. That's all Moana can get out of Maui's expression when she catches him staring.
Mini Maui, the more accurate voice, is bawling his little eyes out when he sees that Moana's okay
Moana understands the implications instantly. and she knows that she's only alive now because Maui prayed for her
"Arching an eyebrow, she nodded over her shoulder. It was time they raised an island- togehter". SICK!!! TO!!! MY!!! STOMACH!!!
"She saw Maui, a familiar comfort in this uncharted territory" [AGGRESIVE TABLE SLAMMING] THAT'S FOUND FAMILY BAYBEEEEE
:') there's a big group hug with Moana's crew and Maui tries to wiggle his way to the center. That's almost shot for shot a scene from one of the first Moana fics I ever wrote back in December of 2017 :') turning into a little lizard and skittering into the center of the hug where Moana is because he wants a proper hug too :')
Okay so I definitely know for sure that when it says the villagers of Motunui are shocked Maui's there because they've heard so many stories about him that it's just the regular old legacy stories. but listen. let me be deluisional. it's because Moana always tells stories and Moana's like. known around the island as his best friend. so it's like!!! oh!!! there he is!!! Tautai Moana's best friend!!!! :')
He calls Simea Mini Moana!!!! weeping and sobbing
Simea's big brown eyes familiar. He Also calls Simea tugging on his ear Very Familiar. That's so stupid cute. I wonder if he ever visited when Moana was out voyaging and he ran into Simea if he'd be able to tell that she was her little sister? :') also hilarious because I'm sure it implies Moana told him Simea wanted to yell at him and he went "yeah okay that's fair"
(still lowkey sad Maui never gets included in the family hugs. Ohhhh if they ever found out what he did to save her they'd pull him straight in for sure)
MAUI STAYS!!! CONFIRMATION THAT HE STAYS!!!!
He stays long enough for things to calm down. He and Moana head out by themselves to help their little Kakamora buddy reunite with his family (cough cough)
Moana goes from "that kid" to his "dear friend." cherished. beloved. it's not even relelvant to the plot. He just smiles at her and goes "where to now?" and it's just. that's his dear friend!!! god!!!! so beloved!!! that feels like it holds even more weight than best friend!!!
god. god. I really gotta write a fic where they talk about watching each other die
good shit!!! gooood shit!!! I'm gonna be screaming about this forever. god.

Queer League of Legends Champions (with explanations) – Part I
Confirmed Lesbians – Neeko, Leona, Diana, Caitlyn, Vi
Starting off with probably the most known LGBTQ+ characters of Riot, we have Neeko, Leona, Diana, Caitlyn, and Vi, all canon lesbians. Neeko's sexuality was a big deal when first announced, not only because she was the first canon queer champion of League but also because her sexuality is explicitly portrayed through her voice lines, as she often flirts with female champions and shows a disinterest in the Shoo'ma of men she shapeshifts into.
A number of different Rioters have confirmed that Leona and Diana were always meant to be lovers, but someone at Riot Management decided against it, and so they were portrayed as almost sisterly in the old lore. Fast-forward to the present day, they are gay and LOUD about it! The Rise With Me short story officially canonized the couple, and official pride art showed both of them with the lesbian flag.
Caitlyn and Vi were already a popular ship before their romantic interest in one another became explicit, as shown in Arcane, Legends of Runeterra, and more subtly in the Warriors cinematic. They have also been shown in official pride art holding or wearing the lesbian flag, and they even share a Valentine's Day skin. It's worth adding that Vi also shares another romance-themed skin line with Fiora, and they seem to be very good friends there, but we'll get into that later.
Confirmed Gays – K'Sante, Graves, Aphelios
K'Sante's sexuality, like Neeko's, has been an important part of his character since release. His cinematic and color story both mention Tope, his past male lover, and he was the face of League Pride 2023 alongside Vi.
Graves and Twisted Fate were reportedly, like Diana and Leona, meant to be lovers from day one, but Riot didn't like that (how novel) and scratched that part of their story, simply leaving them as crime partners, nothing else. Burning Tides and Destiny and Fate have been amazing at developing their relationship, but the real confirmation comes with The Boys and Bombolini, which officially confirmed Graves as gay and T.F. as being attracted to him.
Lastly, we have Aphelios. He and Sett have been a popular ship since the Spirit Blossom release, a skin line that makes them boyfriends, which already confirms him as queer. Throughout this year, Riot has been reposting and sharing Settphel art, which doesn't necessarily mean anything, but what really grabs attention is that they also shared fanart of Aphelios with the toothpaste gay flag, leading me to classify him as such.
Confirmed Bisexuals – Nami, Rell, Sett
Nami surprised pretty much everyone when her addition to Legends of Runeterra confirmed her as polyamorous, being in a relationship with Loto and Tama, other Marai of her tribe. One of the people who worked on her character explicitly highlighted the relationship and affirmed that Nami was pansexual. Since then, Riot has promoted her (through official pride art and LoR emotes) as bisexual. It's a bit unclear how she should be labeled, but one thing is sure: she's queer.
Rell is another champion whose queerness was stated on her debut. Rell had flirtatious lines with both men and women in League and was explicitly labeled as bisexual by her creators, also being confirmed through official pride art.
Finally, there's Sett. People have been speculating on his sexuality for a while, but things changed when Spirit Blossom came along, and he was portrayed as Aphelios' boyfriend. Since then, Sett has been seen in reposted League fanart with the bi flag.

Soulless smiled a creepy smile and took a bow towards the entity, “My name is Sergio…but most of my folks call me…SOULLESS,” then he vanished from the creature’s hand?!!!
Where’d he go?!!!!
“Ahhh, what a lovely place you’ve got here,” he said as he sat on a tree branch, “it has QUITE a nostalgic feel to it…my wife and I met in a forest like this…”
He said that sentence with a bittersweet tone to it, “but good times don’t last forever…”, he said as he then teleported next to the creature.
He then manifest a diamond shaped glass shard, “I suppose I jumped the wrong trunk…,” he said as he then looked at the entity again, reducing the diamond into atoms.
“Seems like it might take a while for me to return, so why don’t we have a chitchat???”
He then snapped his fingers.
Out of nowhere, a table with 2 tables, and a tea set appeared, “shall we sit down????”

Soulless or “Sergio” was just strolling through the woods after an “experiment” gone wrong.
He felt it SORTA help…but he disliked the scenery at times…because of HER.
He then froze at the sound of a mysterious voice.
He whipped his head around and saw the being who asked for a presence.

Hello! I saw your explanation of how Maul got to the Jedi in your AU as well as your post where you implied that Palps took on Savage as his apprentice and I was thinking. Old Palpatine originally wanted Maul as his apprentice but ended up with his (in Palpatines eyes) weaker brother, which carries HUGE potential for angst. Obi-Wan sees his lover in the Sith attacking them. Maul sees a brother he never got to have but who he could have loved if he'd gotten the chance. And Savage sees the brother who in one universe he would have followed to Hell and back but in this universe he has been compared to countless times throughout his life.
All that to say I really like your Jedi!Maul AU! It's very well thought out and sweet!
Oh for sureeee, I feel like there’d be a loto of angst once Obi returns to coruscant and sees the zabrak that killed his master in his lover for a bit after, as well🙈 but I feel like it’d be short lived. Also the knowledge of his brother having grown so far away from home and then killed (ehm ehm) by the love of his life must feel quite heavy
Anyway, lots of heavy feelings for you angst lovers💖

Boromir Week | Day 1: Brother of Faramir, Childhood, Protector and Teacher
Prompt filled for: @boromir-week

Title: Table Time
Word count: ~3.6k
Summary:
An unusually windless evening in Ithilien brings four companions around a table — and a pile of games, each drawn from their homelands.
As dice clatter and laughter spills, Boromir is thrown back into memories of his childhood, when Faramir was just a swaddled mystery in a cradle, and every day felt like a game of luck and risk.
From wooden soldiers and whispered lullabies to dwarven gold and Perudo bluffing — this night is a love letter to brotherhood, rivalry, and the way old habits return around firelight.
Inspired by:
The chaotic beauty of YouTube’s Table Time, mixed with the charming unpredictability of Baltic Loto, Old Took’s Luck, Perudo, Dwarven Gold, and Dice of Fate (a.k.a. Bingo).
Expect playful betrayal, sibling snark, and an exasperated Faramir facing the ultimate peril: Pippin’s commentary.

Old Took’s Luck
The evening in Ithilien turned out warm, quiet, and, to everyone’s surprise, windless — a rare gift for this time of year. The sun was already dipping behind the dark, jagged crowns of the trees, flooding the forest with a thick, honey-golden glow. It was for this light that street painters took to the open air, hoping to capture the reborn silhouette of Osgiliath, its pale ridgeline visible on the horizon.
The company had wandered into an old pavilion from the days of stewards and kings — a round rotunda wrapped in ivy. The whitewashed columns shimmered in the halos of torchlight, thoughtfully lit by Boromir after he’d stashed away the game Pippin had brought.
As agreed, everyone had brought a board game dear to their people. Boromir took an immediate dislike to the one chosen by the hobbit: he was never fond of games where pure chance decided the outcome — and Old Took’s Luck was precisely that sort.
Gimli, on the other hand, was delighted. The moment he heard the rules, the dwarf shook his mug of ale and burst into booming laughter:
“Now this is a proper pastime! Ale in one hand, dice in the other!”
Boromir sighed heavily and exchanged a glance with his brother. The light-hearted excitement stirred memories of very different dice cast by fate — the kind that life itself seemed to throw, back when he was just a boy of five or six, and tiny Faramir had first appeared in their home.
Boromir remembered that first day — the echo of footsteps in the corridors, the soft weeping behind the door to the bedchamber, the scent of fresh wood from the cradle, carved by the finest craftsmen of Gondor. He had peeked timidly into his mother’s room: Finduilas lay half-reclined on the pillows, trembling from exhaustion and joy, while on her chest lay a tightly curled little bundle, gently snuffling in sleep.
A boy of five, almost six, Boromir had no idea what to do with such a fragile miracle. He had brought his favorite wooden soldiers — he wanted to build a fortress on the rug, to show his brother how the drums of the City beat. But the moment he made them clatter, the infant’s face scrunched up and he began to cry. His mother’s smile faded for a moment, and Boromir felt a helpless sting — as if he’d rolled the dice and thrown a bad cast.
The next day, he tried a different approach — tiptoeing to the cradle and, as he’d seen the nursemaids do, whispering ever so softly:
“Don’t be afraid, Faramir. It’s me. Your brother.”
The baby turned his head, and for a heartbeat the corner of his tiny mouth twitched — perhaps a smile, perhaps another grimace. It was just like a game of luck: would the right face appear on the dice? Sometimes Boromir got it — and joy surged through him, like he’d rolled two shining sixes; but sometimes Faramir would begin to cry, and the boy would flee, cheeks burning with shame.
And so he grew — each new day like another throw of the dice, trying to guess: would his brother smile or weep?
“Babies are fussy, my son,” their father would say. “Be patient. Stay near him.”
But Boromir couldn’t help thinking that Faramir was governed by strange, hidden rules — rules he didn’t understand. Ever since, games of chance had struck him as a cruel reflection of that childhood lottery.
That was why, now, with nearly all the tokens facedown save for the cursed “12,” Boromir’s heart beat with unease. It seemed that two sixes would seal the game in his favor — but the dice stubbornly showed a four and a six. Give up? Never. That wasn’t the way of the Guards of the White City. He rolled again — and heard Faramir chuckle quietly.
“Brother, relax. Just enjoy yourself.”
“Maybe that works in the Shire, under their soft little sun,” Boromir muttered through gritted teeth.
“I mean, look — half of my tokens are already flipped,” Pippin said with a shrug. “You’ve only got one left. That makes you the winner.”
“Winner, is it? These cursed dice are mocking me! I didn’t think such a trivial game could torment me this much.”
Faramir raised a finger toward the hobbit — the sign of their secret alliance — then snatched the dice from his brother and winked.
“For Daddy’s new boots.”
He blew on the dice and rolled. The bones danced, bounced — and landed neatly: six and six. Boromir blinked in disbelief. Pippin cheered. Faramir, grinning with satisfaction, flipped the “12” token.
“See?” he whispered, flashing the hobbit another thumbs-up. “C-oalition.”
“Or perhaps our father truly does need a new pair of boots,” Boromir muttered with a huff of laughter.
Their laughter echoed beneath the ivy-covered dome. The game dragged on for another good half hour, and in the end, it was the alliance of Faramir and Pippin that claimed victory. The coalition had worked.
Dwarven Gold
Returning to the table, Boromir noticed a new item placed before him — a tightly tied pouch of plain, unbleached cloth. Identical ones lay in front of every player. Gimli, smugly stroking his thick beard, had already begun explaining the rules:
“In each pouch is a scatter of stones. The goal: be the first to gather five gold nuggets. Draw as many as you like — but beware! The gold is identical in weight and shape to ordinary pebbles. Get greedy, and if you pull two of the same worthless stones in a turn, you lose everything you’ve drawn that round. Stop in time, and you keep your haul. There are also rare gemstones:
Emerald — lets you draw two more stones immediately.
Schorl — if you draw two black stones in a single turn, each player must give you one of their schorls.”
From the very start, luck seemed to have abandoned Pippin — his bag now clattered like a forge bellows, filled to the brim with black stones.
Boromir, convinced that fortune had already made her choice, went all in.
Faramir stuck to his cautious plan: never more than one “risky” stone per round. Each turn, he tried to coax his brother into doing the same.
“That’s enough, you already pulled one gold. Leave fate alone,” he whispered, gently catching Boromir by the elbow.
“And when am I supposed to win, then?” Boromir huffed, pointing at the single yellow nugget in his pile — while Faramir already had four. “You only need one more!”
He plunged his hand into the pouch again.
And Faramir, watching him, couldn’t help but recall how much their habits had changed since childhood.
When Boromir was eight and Faramir had just turned four, they used to stage “sieges” in the courtyard of Minas Tirith. The elder would build a fortress out of bricks, always “forgetting” one small gap in the wall so that the little “assault trooper Faramir” could find the weak spot and win. Sometimes, Boromir — playing the role of a grim commander — would order his wooden soldiers to “retreat” at the exact moment Faramir raised his stick-sword.
But as soon as his brother got older and won his first honest victory, eyes shining, he declared, “This time, you didn’t let me win on purpose!” From that moment on, Boromir only let him win when Faramir himself couldn’t yet see the path to victory. In all other cases, he played to win — so his brother would know the thrill of a true battle.
That evening, however, the memory offered no help: the temptation to take one more risk won out.
Boromir reached into the pouch for the third time — and when he opened his hand, there lay another gray stone.
“So much for luck,” Faramir said quietly, without a trace of mockery.
“Well… it was worth a try,” Boromir sighed, tossing all his stones — even the single gold nugget he had earned — back into the communal pile.
The outcome was predictable: the brothers’ cautious strategy didn’t earn them the win. Victory went to the host of the game — a roaring Gimli.
He carefully poured his five golden “pebbles” back into his pouch, nudged his mug of ale toward Boromir, and declared in his deep voice:
“Remember this, Men: gold favors the brave — but luck favors the dwarf.”
Perudo
Boromir laid out hollow bone cups on the table — one for each player — and poured out a clatter of dice: five per person. He had chosen this game without hesitation; neither he nor Faramir had played it to death yet.
He had first learned it from the corsairs of Umbar, back when he was a fourteen-year-old lad serving aboard a patrol ship guarding Gondor’s southern coasts. It had been his first long voyage, months away with a sword barely his own — while nine-year-old Faramir stayed behind, counting the days until his brother’s return. Ever since, Perudo smelled of sea salt, pitch in the hold, and the bitter tang of separation.
The rules were simple: each player rolled their dice in secret beneath their cup, then took turns announcing a bet — the total number of dice showing a certain value across the entire table. The next player had to either raise the bid (by quantity, face value, or both), or challenge it by calling “dudo!” — “I doubt it!” If they were wrong, they lost a die. If they were right — the bidder did.
Faramir hated Perudo… or rather, he hated it when he had to play against Boromir. As a child, he had grown up trusting in his brother’s unwavering honesty: Boromir had never lied to him — not about monsters under the bed, nor about wins and losses in games.
Now, sitting across from him, Faramir still believed every word — even though bluffing was half the game.
Boromir, of course, knew his brother’s weakness all too well and barely hid his grin whenever Faramir fell for the most obvious traps.
Making a bid after Boromir was torture: should he trust his innate truthfulness — or do the math, like their steward-father had taught them?
“For the love of the Valar, just count, will you?” Boromir laughed, watching his brother squirm.
“What?” Faramir lifted his cup. Only two dice remained underneath. “Why did you drag me into this? This is pure gambling!”
“Imagine if there were gold at stake,” Pippin giggled, elbowing Boromir.
“He’d explode on the spot,” Boromir agreed. “Make your call, brother — two paths: three sixes, or…”
“Two ones!” Faramir suddenly blurted, leaning back in his chair. “Just… saw it.”
The bid leapt straight to wilds — ones counted as any value named. All eyes turned to Gimli. It was his move.
“You’ve got to be kidding me,” the dwarf growled.
“What?” Faramir spun his cup nonchalantly. “Two ones are entirely possible.”
“Pfft. And what do I do now?”
“Don’t believe me — and call it.”
“They’re definitely there,” Gimli groaned, staring at his still-covered cup.
“Or do you think I’m bluffing?” Faramir added innocently, mimicking Boromir’s signature solemn honesty. “Tell me, friends — when have I ever lied?”
Boromir and Pippin were shaking with laughter as the dwarf squirmed, and Faramir casually tapped his cup with smug rhythm.
In the end, Gimli chose to raise the bid — and escaped unscathed.
Pippin, however, wasn’t so lucky.
Whether lost in the game or fooled by the “honest Gondorian,” the hobbit raised the bar to four ones.
There were only two on the entire table…
And both were under his own cup.
Nainë Mandë (Dice of Fate)
The evening was winding down when Faramir — flushed from ale and anticipation — shook a bag of brown velvet over the table. Something inside clattered, dry and wooden, like tiny barrel-shaped batons.
“A game where no one can argue!” he announced cheerfully, giving the bag another shake, prompting Gimli to cautiously slide his mug farther from the splash zone.
Boromir put on his most intrigued face. His brother had a talent for unearthing games that seemed known only to library mice and silver-haired aunties.
Faramir handed each of them a thin wooden board with rows of random numbers — from 1 to 90. The rules were simple: draw a number blind from the bag and mark it off if it’s on your board. First to cover them all wins.
No bluffing, no betting, no sneaky ways to sabotage your opponent — in Faramir’s opinion, the perfect “family” game.
The brothers had learned Dice of Fate from their nursemaid, old Nan. Sitting by the hearth, she’d click the little barrels against the side of the bag, handing out nutshell halves and copper coins in place of tokens. Serious-eyed little Faramir always got the “hero’s coins”; Boromir used to dream of the day when he’d earn copper too — the mark of a true man — but for now, contented himself with his humble nutshells.
Snapped out of his reverie, Boromir realized Faramir was launching into an impassioned explanation of why he’d chosen this particular game, voice brimming with earnest nostalgia.
Meanwhile, Pippin was quietly giggling, sneaking glances at Gimli.
“Seven — that’s a pickaxe, straight up!” he bellowed in his best dwarven bass and elbowed Boromir.
The ale buzzed pleasantly in Boromir’s head, and the Steward’s eldest son couldn’t resist:
“You want all of Gimli’s number associations? Easy! Thirty-three — like twin mountain sapphires, fused together…”
“And forty-four!” Pippin cried, catching on. “A pair of quartz crystals, exactly!”
They were so caught up in mocking the game boards that it took them a moment to notice Faramir had fallen silent. Lips pressed thin, he already looked like he regretted bringing his cozy little family ritual into the circle.
“If you two are quite finished mocking…” he said softly, but firmly. “Can we get back to the rules?”
“Oh — sorry, brother. You were telling a story, weren’t you? About the nutshells?” Boromir said sheepishly, raising his hands in apology.
“Nutshells?” Pippin squeaked.
Faramir’s ears flushed — a sure sign his feelings were stung.
“Not nutshells, they were— never mind. It was a sweet little tale, but who cares, right? Let’s just play.”
“Are you upset?” Boromir asked gently, leaning toward him with a guilty smile.
“Why would I be?” Faramir replied coolly, fiddling with the tokens and refusing to meet his brother’s eyes.
“Well, sorry for interrupting,” Boromir said in a conciliatory tone, touching his brother’s shoulder.
“What are you apologizing for?” Faramir snapped, jerking away and casting a sideways glare at Pippin.
“Me?!” Pippin gasped, pressing both hands to his chest in exaggerated outrage.
“No…” Faramir sighed, rubbing the bridge of his nose. “Let’s just play.”
“No, no — tell it!” Pippin pleaded, leaning in with genuine curiosity sparkling in his eyes.
“I’m telling,” Faramir said with deliberate calm, straightening his back. “The rules of Dice of Fate…”
Boromir rolled his eyes discreetly — an all-too-familiar scene.
Ever since the brothers had reached the age of “semi-legal drinking,” a certain less-than-charming trait had begun to emerge in Faramir. The moment wine shimmered ruby at the bottom of his cup, the wise, measured commander transformed into an easily offended youth. The first time it happened was at Boromir’s sixteenth birthday: by his third mug, Faramir had launched into a tirade about Sindarin verb conjugations, and when met with disagreement, went entirely silent — mentally recording the names of all “phonetic offenders.”
It had since become a family joke — though not one the subject ever found particularly amusing.
Tonight, however, things were following an unfamiliar pattern: luck danced around Boromir like a sunbeam. Every other barrel he drew matched a number on his board, and Faramir’s brow darkened by the minute. Pippin shook the velvet bag like a maraca; Gimli kept opening his mouth only to shut it again, hiding his laughter.
“Seventeen!” Faramir called, eyeing his brother’s board. Boromir, snorting, raised a hand — then immediately slapped it over Pippin’s mouth before he could burst.
“Are you serious?” Faramir sighed.
“If I could rig this, I would!” Boromir protested. “But it’s just draw and mark.”
“How many do you have left?” Faramir leaned over — then bulged his eyes. “Six?!”
“It’s not about who’s fastest,” Pippin reminded him, still jiggling the bag. “You could get stuck on one number for eternity. I’ve only marked one so far.”
“Go on, chase the champion,” Faramir muttered. “Six! I’ve only got three. All right, no questions here,” he nodded at the ever-stoic Gimli, whose board also showed six blank spots. “With hands used to pulling gold from rock, no wonder his luck’s steady. But you, dear brother — where’d you get that fortune? Sell your soul?”
“Oh, for the Valar’s sake!” Boromir laughed. “They’ll all hit seventy-seven eventually — you’ll see.” He pointed at the number on his board.
At that exact moment, Pippin drew the next barrel. His hand trembled, eyes sparkled, breath came short.
“What is it?” Faramir asked warily.
“…Seventy-seven,” Pippin whispered — and then dissolved into laughter so violent Gimli slapped the table and Boromir doubled over, wheezing.
Faramir glanced at his half-empty board, rolled his eyes toward the rafters of the pavilion, and raised his mug — not yet suspecting that he, in the end, would be the one to win this game.
The table now stood empty. On its stained surface, only drained dice cups and half-finished mugs remained, glinting faintly in the dying torchlight. The four unlikely companions — two Men, a hobbit, and a dwarf — had drifted off to their chambers, each carrying with them the quiet aftertaste of the night, and the spark of camaraderie they’d come to share.
Your day’s been carved in heavy stone
With burdens resting on your shoulders wide
But soon the evening claims the city
And daylight burns in amber tide
Together we sigh, and bid the blazing day: “Take flight.”
Each game that night had stirred some childlike memory:
Boromir and Faramir glimpsed the echoing corridors of their youth;
Gimli heard the hammer of his father ringing through stone;
Pippin saw the green hills of the Shire — and Merry, laughing beside him.
In play, they returned for a moment to simpler years, when time was counted not by hours, but by new adventures and sunburnt cheeks.
There is a hidden place we keep
Where childhood lingers, deep in the night
Where stories flow and laughter spills
In ways outsiders never get quite right
And we gather again round the table’s warm light…
Even the brief spat at the end — like old yard fights over a rag-stuffed ball — burned hot and vanished quick, leaving only shared laughter and a sharp edge of friendly rivalry.
The crackle of fire and rustling leaves
Will echo that summer we never retrieve
Of golden stripes and whispered talk
Let’s meet again, take that same walk
And into the starry sky, our voices weave…
As they parted for the night, they knew without saying: they would gather again — more than once. There would be teasing jabs, desperate rolls, and victories, fair or otherwise.
And while the stars dimmed gently over Ithilien, a chorus of fading voices could still be heard, carrying one simple promise:
“Until next time.”

The way Maui would probably just let Moni, Loto, Kele die (if he doesn’t come back soon) and just gave them vague warnings of whether they’re going to die or not, if Heihei (and Moana) wasn’t there.

And how Maui probably wouldn’t rescue Moni in time from the giant sea monster if Moana didn’t yell out his name in distress (note she yelled his name twice)

The only person that matters to him
I’m lowkey obsessed. He really went from “I don’t care for her” to “she’s the only person exists in my world”

Spoilers ahead!
I saw Moana 2!
Even though the songs didn't measure up to the ones from the first movie, I thought the characters and story were better than Frozen 2.
Moana's sibling bond with Simea was as cute as I anticipated. It's very brief, but we get to see the ocean pass messages between the sisters while Moana is out on her voyage. They love each other so much and give each other gifts, but it's clear they value their time together above everything.
Moana's crew are fun characters. Loto is the resident unhinged genius, and you can tell she thrived once Motunui began sailing again at the end of the first film. She loves designing boats and modifying them, even if her timing isn't the best. Moni is all of us, wishing we could be part of our heroes' journeys and how we all would likely respond once we're in it. Kele provides a good contrast to all the positive crew members with his negativity, but rising to the occasion when the chips are down. The twist regarding Kotu and the kakamora was interesting and could provide a good explanation for why they sail around being little pirates.
Heihei has to be some kind of good luck rooster, because he's the reason Moana found the artifact that kickstarts the plot and the reason the Kakamora didn't attack them. Pua was mostly there for reaction shots, but everyone probably appreciates that he got to be part of the journey this time instead of staying on the island.
The villains of the movie, Matangi and Nalo, were interesting. Some people will be upset that Matangi wasn't a full villain, but I thought she provided an interesting obstacle like Tamatoa did in the first and was different enough from him to be unique. Where Te Ka required Maui to be the distraction while Moana returned the heart, it seemed like the roles were reversed for them when it came to Nalo. It was the humans that Nalo had a problem with, not Maui.
The ending did a good job of leaving the door open for more stories in this series, especially the mid-credits scene.
Overall, a worthy follow-up to the original even if this music mostly missed the mark.

Not trying to start anything, but I did wanna get this off my chest about Disney's biggest sequels

It's worth noting that in my opinion (and in the opinion of many others), both "Frozen 2" and "Moana 2" were extremely flawed films, for reasons most people know about. That said, there were bright points with the films, where one was perhaps stronger than the other. I'd like to discuss how both of them stacked up.

The music--This is a low blow, but regardless, "Frozen 2" wins this, easily. This isn't to say the music for "Moana 2" is bad (nowhere near as bad as "Wish"), but it doesn't have the same spark. "Frozen 2" had the benefit of having the same team of directors, writers, and songwriters as the first film, while "Moana 2" didn't (well, the screenwriter returned, but he became co-screenwriter) due to the fact that it was originally planned to be a show before Bob Iger made the decision to upgrade it to a full-length feature film. While not a bad idea, this was done at the last minute, and while "Frozen 2" had their own production issues, it was of a different kind, and the team was better-equiped. The team for "Moana 2"--including the songwriters--didn't have the time necessary to restructure the film to better fit an epic sequel, which led to (among other things) average music.

The Animation--This may be an unpopular opinion, but I find the animation for "Frozen 2" to be superior. Between the originals, "Moana" wins thanks to the colorful aesthetic. Both sequels lean towards a darker or paler color scheme, though for "Frozen 2" it's perhaps as a reference to fall, while "Moana 2" was moreso situational. That said, I felt like there were moments in "Moana 2" that felt a bit overrun with purples and greens (though the green is mainly when Moana and co. are trapped), and to my SHOCK, I actually thought the color use would've been better suited for a 2D film, in contrast to the first film, which I felt like was a love letter to 3D. (No shade to either animation style; I love both equally). The darkness in both films seems to befit the darker tones both are going for, but I think it works in favor of "Frozen 2" more than "Moana 2."

The new characters--This is where they're equal: they're all plot devices. In "Frozen 2," the Northuldra Tribe's plight serve as the backbone for the conflict of the story, and their knowledge of the spirits of the land serve as motivation for the potential solution. However, they aren't really characters unto themselves. Despite Yelena being the leader, Honeymaron being the one to talk to Elsa, and Ryder bonding with Kristoff over reindeers (it's sad to me that they had more chemistry than Kristoff and Anna this movie), none of the characters are involved as...well, characters. Their sole existance is to point the cast--mainly Elsa--in the direction of their quest, rather than joining them on their quest. And Arendelle's Royal Guard adds nothing, literally nothing, to the story, so their inclusion isn't really necessary.
With "Moana 2," it's more or less the same. Moana provides logical reasons for her crew: Kele is a farmer and can provide the team with food while on their venture, Loto is a craftsman and can help keep the ship in shape, and Moni is big and strong. However, none of them are particularly characterized beyond their one trope of being grumpy, smart, or excited, so it's kind of a waste of good ideas. None of them have their own motivations or fleshed-out perspectives despite joining Moana on her quest, and it still feels like a Moana and Maui adventure. Giving Moana a sister felt like a waste since they don't bond, and Moana's risks and motivations would've been the same if she was an only child, since she'd still worry about her parents and village. Matangi is set up to appear as a villain, but turns out to be a prisoner who helps Moana, albeit not in a way that was as deep as it could've been with her whole "there's always another way to do things" perspective. And Nalo lacks Te Fiti's purpose, instead just being a random angry storm god who lacks any particular personality, metaphor, or interesting characteristics besides being a storm for most of the film.

The Story--Weirdly enough, "Moana 2" wins this. While "Frozen 2" has a better journey, "Moana 2" has a more clear end goal; there's no confusing mystery or plot expansion we have to work on. Moana has to unite the islands, and Elsa has to find out the identity of the voice who's calling her. The "who" and "what" is a lot clearer than "Moana 2," especially since it ties into the first film.

The Darkness and communicating the messages--Definitely "Frozen 2." While Elsa's self-discovery may have been a bit familiar, Anna's was new territory, exploring what life means for her when she's become codependent on the only family member she has left, and they die. She manages to overcome it in a beautiful song, though she isn't uplifted, just determined. "Moana 2" fails to do this. The message is pretty similar to the cultural identity motif of the first film, though nothing in the film really capitalizes on the idea of losing your identity or turning your back on your culture. As for the darkness, Moni almost dies, and it's a pretty depressing moment, but Maui sings a pep talk song, and suddenly everyone's ready to roll. There isn't really a processing of stress or failure in this moment, and the song isn't even a growing song like "I am Moana" where it starts off sad but grows to be empowering.
Overall, I think both films needed more work (though Disney's whims have played a part in that), but "Frozen 2" had a better foundation and execution, in contrast to "Moana 2, which just felt simple and average.

Moana 2 thoughts
I just watched Moana 2 and wanted to share my thoughts. It's all spoiler-y so I've put it after the break.
Apologies if my thoughts are disorganized!
1. Moana is really pretty! Has she gotten prettier? Her hair seems even nicer now! I kept looking at her all the time. Animation has gotten really good. But honestly I didn't love the new white gown as much the old one.
2. Overall the movie won't be one I remember as a great movie, but I think the strong points help to balance the weak points and there's enough surprises and emotional beats to keep the movie from being really bad. I would rate this movie as better than Wish (I really didn't like Wish)
3. Simea really reminds me of little Anna! She helped carry parts of the movie, both humorously but also in an emotionally moving way. The sisterly bonding was touching to see, as well as the parallel of Simea discovering the Water and puling Maui's ear!
4. If you think about it, 3 characters "died" and were resurrected. Maui's tattoo buddy was the first (it was quite heartwrenching to see the little guy go), then Maui got zapped by Nalo (honestly, from a bad guy/boss level perspective, why did it take so long for Nalo to zap Maui? Isn't it obvious that one should take out the demigod first?) and then Moana. Moana's death was quite moving, how Maui was crushed when he couldn't revive her.
5. I appreciated having more of the Tokelauan and Samoan language songs by Opetaia Foa'i. The tunes and the timing of the songs were well done and added an authentic layer to the soundscape.
6. I like the dream sequence when Moana was nearly zapped by lightning. It was really nicely done and I recognized Tautai Vasa as one of the dream/vision characters from the first movie.
7. I thought it was cute that the Kakamora were explained and they weren't villains as suggested by the trailer. I liked how that one badass Kakamora joined them.
8. The portrayal of marine life - a. The teeth that made up Maui's "chains" - I had recently visited a marine shell shop and seen some taxidermied puffer fish and shark's teeth. Not sure which one Maui was trapped in but it was cool to me. B. The blobfish was featured in Moana 2!

4. Plot isn't great. I think it's well known that moana 2 wasn't supposed to be a movie but a Disney + series. The movie storyline has problems. Simea just exists. Her parents are unchanged and play a peripheral role. The trio of crew members just exist. Loto just exists, no backstory. Moni just exists and he just magically knows all the legends from just looking at tapestries. The new big bad, Nalo, has no backstory. He's just angry against humans and makes storms. If you wait till the mid credit scene, Nalo is given a physical humanoid form which was very jarring to me as he was a cloud for most of his appearances. Compared to Te Ka from moana 1 who was humanoid throughout.
I actually know about this fish and it's not green... Nor poisonous... Lol. C. The Whale shark, I liked it that Tautai Vasa's spirit animal was a whale shark. That was cool, I like whale sharks.
What wasn't so great?
The "portal" thing that the main team used which rocketed them to Motufetu is so confusing. What is this portal? Where does it come from? How did Moana know the chant to open the doors to the portal?
The biggest disappointment was Matangi, the secondary antagonist. Firstly, there's no backstory. Is she 1000 years old??? Why can she fly and walk upside down? Why is she living in a CLAM, with bats? The bats are INSIDE the clam??? Huh? When I saw the trailer I assumed she was in a cave of some sorts. Why do bats live in a clam?? BTW, when the Kakamora were unable to go past the clam, I thought - Erm, u could just sail around the clam??
Next problem - it was confusing whether she was good or bad! She imprisoned Maui (how is that possible? How is Maui weaker than her?) so, that makes her bad, right? The next thing we know, she's with Moana alone and it seemed like Matangi was "seducing" Moana to the dark side. The song Matangi sang, convinced me that Matangi was tricking Moana and was about to trap her like how she trapped Maui. She kept saying "there's always another way" and "get lost" to Moana which made me think she was convincing Moana to "stray" from what Moana was supposed to do/meant to be etc. (like the song The Other Side in Greatest Showman) The music of the song sounded devious and thrilling. At the end, Moana agrees with Matangi and I thought, aha, now Moana's in trouble, Matangi's going to reveal her true colours, Moana's trapped now. I thought she was trapped in that pink sphere/bubble. So far so clear. BUT then, it turns out that Matangi is GOOD and she was HELPING moana??? I was soooo confused! It was all contradictory. Sorry if I missed something somewhere.
I might have missed something, but it seems it wasn't clearly explained why a human has to touch the island in order to break the curse. It suddenly became a thing and I don't remember getting a clear explanation about it.
Why couldn't water help again? I mean, plot device yeah... It was already in Moana 1, water can't help when the plot says so. Because honestly the water could have made the air bubble (like it did in the dead moana scene) and brought humans down to the island.
That's all for now, sorry for long post!
