Ex-Husband!Caleb/Reader ~ Part Four
The kids were in bed earlier than usual because of how tired they were from all the fun they had with their father over the weekend as the house settled in comfortable silence. Officially, you were prepared for a night of doing absolutely nothing.
Unfortunately, Caleb had to cut their stay a little shorter than usual, hurriedly dropping them off in the early afternoon today. He had quickly explained as he handed you their bags, that he received a phone call from work. You wondered if he noticed how he pressed a quick kiss to your cheek as if it were routine before he told you he’d call you when he got there.
The kids were supposed to be back with you later in the evening, and he did up reaching out and apologized for the abrupt arrival. Caleb hated to have to cut time with them, but after being informed that it was an emergency that required his presence, you could let it slide this once.
Freshly showered, house clean, and your babies safe in their beds, you sat down to start a book you haven’t had the chance to pick up since you bought it. Despite it being a quarter to eleven, you weren’t even remotely tired, but it was only a few pages that were flipped before you were interrupted by your phone pinging with a text message.
Caleb ❤️: Hey, I’m outside. Didn’t want to ring the bell and wake the kids. Open up?
Immediately you were confused after reading it, truthfully a little concerned more than anything. Rushing up and off your corduroy couch, you pulled the front door open to find Caleb with a pink princess book bag slung over his shoulder and wearing the white dress shirt with black slacks you saw him in earlier. His clothes were slightly disheveled from a seemingly tough day, but he’s never looked so good. He smiled at you when greeted by your pretty face.
“Blythe forgot her book bag. With all the rushing, I didn’t even notice we never grabbed it on our way out.” His hand extends with it in tow for you to receive. “I got to my apartment and it was the brightest thing in my living room,” he chuckles. “Didn’t want anyone panicking about where it was tomorrow, so I thought it was best to drop it off.”
“Thanks.” You grin to yourself, all that worry immediately dissipating. For a moment, you wondered what Caleb’s apartment must look like if anything that wasn’t related to his little girl was a dull sight. It brought you a swift ache of sadness, but you quickly gathered yourself. “I wish you hadn’t drove all this way, through. They don’t have school tomorrow.”
“They don’t?” His head tilts to the side in thought.“Oh shit, you’re right. Teacher development.”
“Teacher development,” you say at the same time that he does. You appreciated that your kids’ school has a day every few months where teachers are to attend workshops to improve on their skills, curriculums, and yearly plans. You saw the positive result of that reinforcement in your children’s academic success and excitement daily.
“But, still, thank you. How are you, though? Was everything okay at work?”
“Yeah,” he nods. “Just a last minute important meeting that I couldn’t miss. I’ll make it up to you and the kids.”
“It’s okay, Caleb. No worries. We understand.”
With tired eyes, he looks over you and suddenly, you feel naked despite your large t-shirt and sweatpants.
“I should head back,” he sighs. “It’s late and I need to eat something. Goodnight, pretty.”
A quick thought flashes in your mind as he gets ready to turn around. You wondered if it was a coincidence—perhaps fate?
“Wait,” you gently take hold of his bicep, trying your best to not groan at the way he effortlessly flexes in your clutch. “Guess what I made.” Caleb looks at where you touch him, his body relaxing immediately like muscle memory.
“You teasing me with something I can’t have?” He quirks a brow in amusement.
“Who said you couldn’t?”
The breathy laugh he exhales makes you grin wider. Since that first date with Caleb, you’ve gone on quite a few this last month. Successfully, you’re taking it slow—well, as slow as you could with a history like what you and he shared. It’s the happiest you’ve been, even if he was the one who originally brought you sadness so immense that you’d never wish it on anyone, in the first place.
Life was weird that way. What could shape and define you could also gain and own the power to absolutely crush everything that encompasses your entire existence. Whether Caleb intended to or not, that’s exactly what happened with your heart in his hands. But you could comfortably say that in this moment, there would never be a repeat of the latter.
You have fully accepted that you wanted this man back in your life. With the way that everything was lining up right now, you believed that the universe was just as accepting of that.
“What are you saying, baby?”
“I’m saying,” you pull him closer and he moves with ease as if drawn to you like a audience entranced by a powerful operatic chorus. “That I want to do something for you this time. I think you’ll be quite surprised when you see it.”
“You don’t have to do anything for me.” He places his other hand over yours, taking ahold of it and bringing your knuckles to his lips to kiss.
“Good thing I said that I wanted to, didn’t I?”
You don’t let him try and weasel his way out of something you know he wants, too. Caleb is never ashamed to admit how desperate he is to be with and around you—to be in your space. But he’s been so afraid of rushing anything because of the boundaries you initially set in place. You completely understood and thanked him consistently for it. That’s why you have to be the one to give him that nudge.
Once’s he’s pulled inside, you take his hand and lead him to the kitchen to sit at the island. He watches with curiosity as you fiddle with a pot of something on the stove after getting a plate from the cabinet.
You’re glad that you didn’t put dinner away with the intention of having some for yourself since you didn’t get the chance to eat from being so busy with house chores.
As the plate you made heated in the microwave, the most delicious smell entered Caleb’s nostrils—an aroma he would never dare to forget. He didn’t want to disrupt the peaceful silence, not just yet. Not until he was absolutely sure. But when you pulled the plate out after a few minutes and placed it in front of him, it took everything in him not to stand and kiss you.
“Your roast?” he says with shock as he looks up from the savory gravy spilling into the homemade mashed potatoes.
“Mhm,” you lean over the counter, holding yourself around your arms. “I bought one on my own a few days after we went grocery shopping together and I hadn’t had the courage to make it. I was afraid I lost my touch,” you shrugged. “Finally decided to give it a go, and what a coincidence that you show up, hm?”
You usher him to eat, knowing that he wants to hang onto every word you’re saying, but you want him to kill that hunger first. He doesn’t need further convincing—hell, he didn’t need it in the first place. You tentatively watch as he scoops up some of the food with the fork, bringing it to his mouth while you ramble as a way to protect your mind and heart from what he could say.
“It’s not as fresh, especially because it was in the microwave. I’m sorry if it’s not quite the same. It’s just been so long and I thought about how you said you’d like to have it again one da—”
“Baby,” he interrupts you. He goes in for another bite, like he needs further confirmation, making you push a gentle laugh out through your nose. “This…is fucking perfect.”
“Yeah? Honest?” you ask with a twinkle in your eyes at his praise. “I haven’t had the chance to try it myself, but the kids liked it. I’m happy you do, too.”
“Honest. I’d never lie to you, you know that.” The fork makes occasional clinks against the ceramic plate the more he indulges. Caleb didn’t want to ruin the moment by telling you that he hasn’t had a home cooked meal in so long that he couldn’t remember the last time. Since you two separated, he barely cooked for himself because being in the kitchen reminded him too much of all the times you were there with him. It reminded him of all the dinners he made you eat alone, all the times he should’ve been there and wasn’t.
“Wait, you haven’t eaten?” he asks, realization settling in.
You shake your head. “Just never got around to it, but I planned on eating when—”
“Aht, open your mouth.” He puts a generous amount of food on the fork, lifting it up to your lips. “I wouldn’t have let you feed me first if I knew that.”
“You’re so dramatic,” you roll your eyes, looking at the offering with a feeling of inappropriateness at the way he commanded you.
Caleb can’t help his dirty thoughts either as his cock stirs in his pants when your plump lips wrap around the metal he wishes he could switch places with. He has to look back at his food when you lick your lips of any potential residue, refusing to give his dick any false hope.
You were shocked by how good it was, honestly. But you couldn’t bring yourself to stomach anymore because your body was being distracted by a feeling that you’ve come to feel every time Caleb is around you for longer than twenty minutes without fail.
Need.
It wasn’t without difficulty as you tried to engage in conversation with him after he finished up and cleaned the kitchen for you. He put the leftovers away in their respective containers, rolled up his sleeves, and conversed with you while washing the dishes that he refused to let you touch. Soon after when he finished, the water was turned off and he dried his hands.
It was a moment of silence and you took advantage of it to completely analyze him. His soft hair that rested against his brows, his slender nose that you missed tracing, the mouth you’ve kissed too many times as of late, the angular shape of his jaw, his thick neck that you missed licking.
He was perfect. So perfect that the words that fell from your lips scared you despite how right they felt.
“Caleb,” you call to him, making him give you his attention. “I miss you.”
The memory of how he expressed that same thing to you on Christmas Eve causes the man to grow tense. Now that you were admitting it too, there was a sense of being complete that shook him to his core.
“You miss me?” he repeats with a whisper, needing you to say it again so he knows he’s not dreaming. He would hope there wasn’t anything out there to be so cruel to him, but still, he needed confirmation.
You decide that there was no more fear needed, no more trying to keep up walls that he has already knocked down.
You love him—so fucking much. Admitting that to yourself set you free in a way that gives you everlasting peace. There was no point in waiting anymore, no such thing as slow with the way your heart rapidly beat in your chest. You’re sick of trying to prove a point that’s been lost the deeper you’ve fallen for him all over again—sick of feeling guilty for loving him despite everything he put you through.
Like he’s told you before, he has a lifetime with you to correct it all.
“I do.” Your breath is heady as you get closer to him, letting your folded arms drop. You need to be the one to shatter this thin facade of glass that’s been weakened with every encounter.
He studies your face—seeing the longing that matches his own. Your hand comes up to his jaw, cupping his face as your thumb glides across his soft lips. His shakily exhales, becoming putty under your touch.
He holds your hand against his cheek, turning his head just enough to kiss your wrist that has the faint smell of his favorite perfume that he keeps a bottle of. The contact makes your core tingle as he savors your closeness.
“I want it,” you push out, unable to help yourself anymore. Caleb’s eyes flick to you with a swiftness, his throat working to swallow before he can speak. “You. I want you.”
“Where do you want me, baby?” he says lowly, the desire etched into your features unmistakable.
Your eyes flutter, unable to vocalize anything further with the ache in you craving nothing but him in and on you. You meet in the middle, your lips crashing into each other’s as he pulls you in by your waist to keep you flushed against him.
Frenziedly you grab onto him, your hands finding anchor in his hair the harder he kisses you. You whimper into his mouth as he exhales through a moan, his hands sweeping down your back to grab your ass like it’ll merge you together.
The wet sounds of your mouths caressing and your saliva mixing makes your pussy pulse. Impatiently, your hands come to the buttons of his shirt, pulling at them to reveal him to you in a way you haven’t been able to see in far too long. He doesn’t stop you, matching your efforts by tugging on the waistband of your sweats.
“Fuck this,” he mumbles, hastily lifting you up to make your legs wrap around his waist. There was no such thing as heavy when it came to a man like Caleb. It took him zero effort to hold you up as he walked to the bedroom you and he once shared.
As quietly as he can, he shuts the door with his foot then places you down on the bed. Thankful for the light that you’ve always kept on in the bedroom, he can kiss your lips a few more times before he hesitantly separates to lock the door. He’s back on top of you in seconds though, making you fall back into the plush mattress as his shirt is finally pulled down his broad shoulders. It falls somewhere of little importance as he presses gentle kisses along your jaw and down your neck.
“I miss you, too,” he says in between his pecs. “Not a day goes by that I don’t regret what I’ve done.”
Your legs spread wider to let him press deeper, your fingers gliding through his scalp as he pours his heart out. “You’ve always been mine, always been my wife…and ‘m so sorry for taking that for granted. I’m sorry for hurting you—for breaking us. I’m sorry for abandoning you.”
“Caleb…” you cry out softly as he stands. “Please…”
“I know, pretty.” You can’t stop looking at the bulge in his pants and his strong hands that work to undo his belt. “I need to hear you tell me you want my cock... Just once, baby. Please...”
You’ve never been so horny and turned on in your life. You don’t want to just watch him though, so you sit up to help rid him of the rest of his garments. He looks into your eyes as you gaze up at him, your delicate fingers unbuttoning his pants while you nestle your cheek in his hand that tenderly touches your face. Swiftly, you pull them down his strong thighs.
“I want my husband back.” His pupils dilate at the way you claim him. “I want you to fuck me like you used to. Make me feel what it was like to be full of your cock again, Caleb…”
He can’t think straight. His abs ripple with every breath, incapable of waiting any longer and using all his strength to pull you up further into the bed with him after getting his slacks and everything else all the way.
“Tell me you forgive me,” he begs, his voice cracking with emotion at the way your eyes linger on him with so much love. He yanks your sweatpants and your panties down your legs, the sight of your pussy nearly making a fool out of the desperate man.
“I forgave you a long time ago,” you admit.
His body trembles as he goes for your shirt next, your full breasts a sight he’s missed so fucking much when he removes it. He fulfills his selfish desire of tasting you, sucking your hardened nipples into his mouth. You quietly moan, not wanting to be too loud no matter how much you wish you could be.
Your hips buck up, grinding against his clothed erection but feeling every part of him so perfectly despite the thin barrier. He feasts on you like the starved man he’s been at the loss of such bliss for far too long.
“Put it in, please…” you implore. “I can’t…it’s too much…”
He nods into your flesh, his mouth slightly parted as he braces a hand on the side of your head. You assist him in pulling his underwear down, his cock gently making contact with your hot cunt. You both moan at the brief touch, the sight of his precum leaking onto your puffy lips nearly causing him to come without even being inside you yet.
“Look at me when I slide in,” he asks sweetly. “I want your eyes on me.”
You listen, staring into his intense gaze as the head of his cock catches at your tight hole. Your eyes nearly flutter shut, but you heed his command, struggling to keep them open.
“That’s it,” he groans, his hips slowly inching forward. “Fuck, you still take me so well…”
Your back arches off the sheets below you when his entire length fills you, taking everything that is you and making it his.
You can’t stop squeezing him. Your body knew that it missed him as mush as your heart did.
Tears well in your eyes, causing you to sniffle from the overwhelming feeling of it all. Caleb leans down to kiss your eyes, his cock pulsing inside of you as he waits for you to give him the okay.
“Move,” you mewl. “Please…please move…”
Caleb begins by grinding into you before he pulls back almost completely before sinking back inside as your gummy walls suck him in. He starts gaining a consistent pace, trying not to fuck you too fast or he’ll come before you do.
“You’re so tight, hah—fuck…” he breathes, watching how your wetness makes a mess on his cock. Your cunt can’t stop squelching, making a point of telling him how good you feel without a word needing to be uttered from your lips.
He pulls your hands that grab at his back, one by one, placing them beside your head as his fingers glide against your palm before intertwining with yours. Caleb’s memorized by the way your tits jump every time he thrusts into you, his composure faltering with every tight movement within your walls.
Soft plaps of skin become the only sound relevant besides the heavy breathing and slight creaks of the bed.
You’ve been trying to keep your sounds low, but when he reaches deeper into you, his balls slapping against you every time he’s sheathed completely in your heat, you cry out so loud that he has to kiss you to keep you silent—no matter how much he wants to hear it.
Hot tears falls down your face from the pleasure of his hands holding yours so tight, his tongue moving within your mouth, and his cock snuggly moving inside of you.
“I love you,” you weep, feeling your orgasm approach. “Caleb, I love you…”
“Oh, baby…” he grunts, his grinding against your clit. “I love you, too…So much,” he kisses your lips, the quick press wet and messy. “So fucking much…”
You’re crying like a valve has been broken inside of you. You want to be embarrassed but you can’t be, not when he starts to sniffle above you, burying his face in your neck.
“Let me touch you..” you beg. His hands fall away from yours, his forearms bracing on either side of you while your hands tightly grabbing his hair as his onslaught rocks you up and down. It’s not fast enough to be considered rough and not too slow that it frustrates you. Similar to this moment—it’s absolutely perfect.
“Can I come inside?” he whispers meekly, his voice racked with emotion.
“Yes…”
With his hard chest against your tits and your nipples grazing against him, you come so hard that you have to bite his shoulder to suppress your sounds. Caleb does the same to your neck, licking at his bite as his cum starts to flood your womb.
The more you squeeze him, the more his cum leaks out of your hole. He sits up, his cheeks just as wet with tears as yours are.
“I missed this.” He kisses your nose. “I can’t wait to marry you again,” he mumbles.
You smile when he wipes your tears and you do the same for him.
“Neither can I.”

When you stir awake the next morning, you frown to find your bed empty. It’s the faint sound of Caleb’s voice somewhere in the house that relaxes your mind. As you take a deep breath, the memories of last night make you cover your face with a grin so wide that it makes your heart sing.
After the emotional sex, Caleb cleaned you up before sliding into the spot next to you and immediately fell asleep with you tightly wrapped in his arms. You touch your lips as you think about the way he kissed you, your neck in memory of how he breathed and cried into you, down your breasts as if you could still feel the way he sucked on your nipples.
You were so gone for him that you wondered if you’ve fallen harder than the first time you ever did.
After sliding out of the bed, you throw on a fresh shirt and shorts to go see where your man went. You take a peek into your kids’ room before you head downstairs, only to find it empty. It makes you smile at the scene you know you’ll see.
“Daddy, I want a heart pancake!” Blythe pouts loudly.
“I want a dinosaur, daddy!” Jonah adds in.
Soft music plays as you round the corner and you see that Blythe is sitting at the table coloring while Jonah is sitting on the counter beside Caleb, helping his dad cook with pure enthusiasm.
With his back turned, you feel nothing but heat in your stomach at the sweatpants he wears and his strong back he has on display. The domestic scene of him cooking with your babies has you ready to selfishly sneak him away for a few minutes.
After last night, you already know that the both of you are bound to become insatiable.
“Goo’ moring, mommy!” Blythe yells with a wide grin, her dimples similar to her brother who does the same when they notice you.
“We didn’t know daddy spent night!”
“It was a surprise,” you wink at her. “Were you?”
“Was I what?” She tilts her little head just like her dad.
“Surprised.”
“Oh. Mhm!” she nods vigorously. “He’s silly because he tickle my feet when I was sleepin’!”
Caleb turns his head to see you, telling you to come here with a tilt of his head. You walk up to your daughter first, kissing her head. “Daddy is really silly, huh?”
You then approach Jonah to kiss his cheek. “What about you? He tickled you, too?”
“Nope, I beat him up! Can’t get me.”
Your eyes widen in amusement at Jonah flexing as he tries to prove that he beat his dad’s ass.
“He’s violent—just like you,” Caleb jokes and you smack his arm. “See?”
“Sit at the table for me, J.” Caleb gives Jonah a fist bump before he jumps down to sit beside his sister. You look into the pan at the fresh heart pancake he started.
“Artist, huh?”
“I dabble.” His hands sneak around your waist and your hands caress his strong arms. “How’d you sleep?”
“Really good.”
He kisses your lips with a hum. “Good. You hungry?”
“For food and…other things…”
Caleb just smiles, his hand going behind your neck to bring you into a deep kiss. You groan into his mouth, making sure you remain aware that your kids are right there, but they make it known in case you didn’t.
“EW!” Jonah fake vomits.
Blythe laughs at her brother’s exaggeration, her head falling back as she breaks into hysterical laughter. You and Caleb keep kissing, but not without teeth occasionally hitting because you can’t stop laughing.
“Don’t burn her pancake,” he presses several kisses to you. “She won’t be laughing, then.”
“It’ll be your fault.”
“You want it to be.”
He licks his lips. “Sit down so I can feed you. Eggs the same?”
You nod and turn to walk away so you can sit with your kids. He makes a quick move of hitting your ass when he sees that they’re distracted by their crayons and paper again, evoking you to throw back a middle finger. He laughs at you, but in truth—you desperately need him to do that again.

You haven’t heard from Caleb in four days and at first, it scared the shit out of you. Now? You felt like he was avoiding you for a reason you were unaware of.
It’s been two weeks since the first time you made love after all these years, and like you presumed, he and you were all over each other at any given opportunity as if every time could be the last.
Well, with this being the first time in history he’s gone no contact at any point in all the years that you’ve known him, the sex you had four days ago in his car was feeling like the last.
You tried calling him over and over, blew up his phone with text messages, but to no avail. On the second day, you phoned his job, only to learn that he was still regularly coming in. That floored you, made you heart sting with…you refused to make it negative.
Maybe he was busy?
You then called his parents after that and they said they had just spoken to him the first day he went cold turkey on you.
You spent the rest of that night and all of yesterday with nothing but sorrow and anger, every bit of those emotions trickling into today.
The kids were just as confused, but they were easy to convince with a lie that their father had something work related to take care of and that they’d see him soon. You’d never ruin his image in their eyes for any reason, no matter how upset he could make you. But despite all of this, you know Caleb. He would never abandon you or his kids, but the silence, how abrupt it was—you wanted answers.
You honestly couldn’t wonder or try to cultivate anything in your mind, whether it be positive or negative, because none of it made sense.
But it didn’t stop you from feeling insecure, the flicker of being abandoned by him before evoking something nearly violent.
The kids ran to the front door, giggling and ready to begin the typical routine they have after school. Your attempt to unlock the door stopped when your phone rang. You quickly pulled it out, looked at the screen, and hoped to see that stupid red heart you had with Caleb’s name—only to be perplexed because of a number you’ve never seen before.
Dread fueled you. He was fine…right? He had to be fine. As a Colonel, if anything happened to him, it would never be told to you over the phone. Unless he was in the hospital or something. What if..?
You immediately picked up at that realization, and a lady’s voice began to speak.
“Good afternoon, ma’am. On behalf of Colonel Caleb Xia of the Farspace Fleet, he has cordially invited you and your children to the Farspace Annual Celebration.”
Rather than relief, you were fucking furious. He’s been ignoring you and making you think the worst of yourself and of the situation between you both while he’s been getting ready for a damn party?
“What?” you say in disbelief as your children look at you, confused by your sharp tone. “Listen, just…Do you have a way that I can contact him because he won’t answer—”
“I’ve been instructed to simply inform you of the invite and to be ready for the car that will be coming to your home at approximately 7:00 this evening. Dress code is formal and—”
“Where is this being held?”
“Excuse me?”
“The party!” you snap. “Address. What is it?” You were done waiting and playing nice. You were getting something and you were getting it today.
The lady read the address out to you, confirming that it would be at his job as you suspected. It was always a thought to just show up, but you knew there was a whole thing with clearance and you didn’t want the headache, but Caleb has officially made you a walking issue.
Before when he abandoned you, you shut down. You wallowed in pity.
He would have to deal with you this time.
There was not a care in you when you hung up. You weren’t listening to a fucking word anymore. Now a woman on a mission, you corrected your behavior to properly communicate with your children since they didn’t deserve to deal with your emotions.
“Kids, cmon, we’re gonna see grandma and grandpa.” They looked at you with so many questions.
“Is daddy there?” Jonah asked hopefully.
“He’s not, bub,” you got down to his level when he frowned. “But I’m gonna bring him to you, okay? I promise.”
Jonah nodded and Blythe wrapped her little arms around her now sad brother. Caleb’s bullshit was affecting your kids and you wouldn’t have it.
After getting to your parents house, while surprised, of course they were happy to see you.
“Hey, hon,” your mother pressed her cheek to yours. “You okay? You look…”
“Pissed off, your father interjected.
“I can’t talk about it right now, but as soon as I get some answers, I’ll call you. You mind watching them for me, please? I’ll come get them tonight as soon as I can—”
“Woahh, alright, slow down,” your father put his hands on your shoulders when you start speaking faster than your mouth can keep up with. Your mother takes the kids as she sees you getting ready to break down by the quiver in your lip.
“Caleb…” you push out, inhaling sharply in an effort to stay together when your kids are out of earshot. “I haven’t seen him or heard a thing in days, but he’s talking to everyone but me… Just when I thought we were good. I thought we were fixed…”
“And what are you intending to do about that right now that it has you like this?”
“I know where he might be and I need to get over there before I start feeling worse.”
“You want me to come with you?”
You shake your head, needing to confront Caleb on your own without potential judgment and concern about how you’ll react.
“Keep your head steady then, you hear me?” Your dad holding your face in his hands makes you feel like a little girl again. You shakily nod.
“I promised you that I would never let him hurt you again—that no one would ever hurt you the way you did—again. Believe me when I say that it’s a vow I’m keeping.”
You let the heaviness of his words stir in your chest, the intensity of it marinating in its meaning
“I hear you, dad,” you assure him as you pull away. “I gotta go. I’ll call you.”
“Please do. We got Blythe and Jonah.”
After you leave your parents’ home, you’re in front of Farspace’s facility faster than you even expected. You were sure you’d be getting several tickets, but once you dealt with Caleb, he could handle them since he’s the reason you’d have them in the first place.
You would start here since this was closer than Caleb’s apartment building and if he wasn’t here, for his sake, he’d better be home.
You couldn’t find it in you to be strategic, or well thought out. Instead, you got out of your car at the gate, fueled by rage and melancholy.
“Ma’am,” the two guards approached you with assault rifles in their hands. “You cannot be here without the proper authorization. Please state your business.”
“Colonel Caleb Xia,” you say steadily. “Where is he? Is he here?”
“I cannot share such information without the proper identification.”
“I’m his fucking wife!” you yell without thought.
“You need to clam down. I can neither confirm nor deny that statement, ma’am. Not without proper identification and even with it, that doesn’t grant you immediate entry.”
“Are you kidding me right now?” You knew how ridiculous you were being, but how could anyone blame you if they knew what you were going through?
They didn’t though, and that’s what made all of this infinitely more difficult.
“You need to let me in there. I just need to see him if he’s here. I got a phone call about some Farspace event, okay? You don’t understand. It’s important…” Your thoughts are jumbled just as much as your sentences that barely make any sense to the men listening.
One of the guards voices something incoherent in his radio and the other one begins to point his gun at you. “I need you to put your hands above your head until we come to a solution.”
Okay…maybe you should‘ve thought this through a little bit. Because now you were looking down the barrel of something that could take your life if you didn’t watch yourself. As instructed, you place your hands where he told you to, and the other guard walks up to cuff your hands behind your back.
You’re like that for what feels like too long, intimated by the deadly machinery in your face as you’re forced to sit on the curb beside your car.
Caleb was speaking with one of the planners in the space where the event tonight would be held, ensuring everything was as perfect as he’d been planning for weeks. Three men soon rushed into the large room, their voices echoing off the walls as they greeted him with a salute.
“Colonel Xia, sir. There’s a situation at the front gate.”
“What is the situation?”
“An erratic woman, sir. Claiming to be your wife and demanding to be let in.”
Fuck. Fuck.
It’s all Caleb thought because he knew it was you. All the planning he did was going out the window and it was his fault. He knew better, but he thought just maybe…maybe he had a shot at pulling this off, even if you got a little upset with him. He thought it would be worth it in the end, but now you’re at his job and being called erratic.
Ignoring you the last few days was how he’d been able to get everything finalized as efficiently as he has. If he hadn’t, he wouldn’t have lasted long enough to make it something memorable. None of that mattered though if you were angry enough to be on the hunt for him.
You and him are much too alike.
He didn’t respond to the men who quickly followed him as he strode with purpose to get to you. Suddenly, several pairs of boots could be heard thumping against the gravel, but you refused to turn around—until you hear him.
“Would you care to explain why she is in handcuffs with your gun in her face? Has she not been detained already?”
Caleb.
And he sounds more furious than you did. If you were dealing with the brunt of it, just based on hearing his voice alone, you’d throw up. You turn your head and his eyes meet yours. You’re relieved to still see the love and concern in them. You scowl to make him see how livid you are, though.
“Colonel,” the man lowers his weapon. “This woman was—”
“You were doing your job, and for that, I unfortunately cannot punish you. But should you or anyone else have the audacity to do anything this stupid again, you’ll deal with me and only me. Have I made myself clear, or do you need further understanding?” The way he commands respect and threatens without hesitation is a man you’ve never heard before. “You don’t touch or speak to her unless I’ve instructed you to do so, and should you fail to follow my orders, it’ll be your last day standing.”
Yes, sir!” they say collectively.
“Uncuff her and get the fuck out of my face.”
When your wrists are released, Caleb immediately lifts you and like the baby you always become in his presence, your eyes begin to water. But you don’t let him hold you when he tries.
Your fists start to attack him, the hits not causing the burly man any harm as he stands there in his pristine colonel uniform that you’ve only seen him in once before.
“Days, Caleb!” you scream. “Fucking days! I thought you…” You choke on your sobs, never relenting.
“I’m sorry, baby,” he expressed sadly, his hand encircling your fist that weakly rests on his chest. “I’m sorry…”
“Not a word? You couldn’t tell me, anything!? After every fucking thing we’ve been through? Are you serious? You picked this shit again,” your hands gesture to his uniform. “Over me? Over your family?”
He shuts his eyes, gathering his words. “Never. You know that.”
“Do I…?” you question weakly.
“I should’ve known you wouldn’t just let this happen how I intended. I do still have a lot to learn about you, don’t I?”
You’re so confused that what he’s saying sounds like gibberish.
“Can you just say whatever it is you need to say instead of trying to act like you’re some poet?”
He sighs before he begins explaining himself. “I was distant because I was planning, because I needed time to do everything. I needed to get your parents blessing, to curate tonight’s event that was supposed to be for the fleet—for you, for us.”
“My parents blessing? What are—“
“You supposed to let me finish, pretty,” he smiles gently.
“Well, you’re taking too fucking long!” you throw your hands in the air, making him chuckle as his gloved hand comes up to wipe your stray tears that grow cold on your face.
“I told you I’d never lie to you, so I didn’t want to make you believe anything that wasn’t true. But it was ignorant of me to handle it the way I did when I know what I’ve done to you before. And for that, I’m so sorry.” His heart can breathe a little when he sees you begin to relax. “I don’t have it on me, but even with what I’m about to do now, I’m doing it again tonight in front of everyone and our family—our kids.”
In the barren parking lot, he gets down on one knee.
Your eyes widen, your heart racing as he removes the black leather from his hands so that your skin touches.
“I failed you once, and I nearly did it again, didn’t I?” He kisses your hand. “And yet here you stand, chasing after me with that fire I fall in love with every day of my life. When I lost you the first time, I should’ve never been given the opportunity of a second chance. But it’s because of you and your forgiving heart that I’m here right now—that we’re here. You let me come back into your heart, into your body—you trusted me despite me breaking it after every moment of abandonment and doubt. You’ve got me on my knees, baby and for you, it’s where I’ll stay if it means that you’ll always be right here to hold me—to love me. To be my other half until we’re in the grave. I may not have your ring to slip onto your finger right now, but I’m selfishly asking you if you would make me the happiest man on the planet and marry me, again?”
You can’t speak when you look down at his puppy dog eyes—when you see the water that starts to pool in them while he waits for your answer. All you can do is nod as the burning love in your chest makes you get on your knees, too.
Those raging emotions? Calmed like the day after a destructive hurricane.
You take his face in your soft hands, kissing him deeply and basking in his love when he wraps his arm around your waist.
“Thank you for choosing me, over and over…” he presses his forehead to yours.
“You’re such a dork,” you hiccup, making him laugh that boyish chuckle that you love so much.
“Your dork.”
“My husband…” you breathe.
“My wife.” He brushes his nose against yours.
Having your best friend back like this is a reality you never thought would come. But Caleb never gave up, he never let it be goodbye—even if it felt like it would always be. For that, you will always treasure him and all your love belongs to him as it once did. This time though, nothing could ever be more important than you, him, and your children always being a unit. Everyday that you will spend together will be him proving that to you.
Despite the doubt and the fear, above it all—your love did in fact, win.

By Sarah Schwartz
Test after test of U.S. students’ reading and math abilities have shown scores declining since the pandemic.
Now, new results show that it’s not just children whose skills have fallen over the past few years—American adults are getting worse at reading and math, too.
The connection, if any, between the two patterns isn’t clear—the tests aren’t set up to provide that kind of information. But it does point to a populace that is becoming more stratified by ability at a time when economic inequality continues to widen and debates over opportunity for social mobility are on the rise.
The findings from the 2023 administration of the Program for the International Assessment of Adult Competencies, or PIAAC, show that 16- to 65-year-olds’ literacy scores declined by 12 points from 2017 to 2023, while their numeracy scores fell by 7 points during the same period.
These trends aren’t unique in the global context: Of the 31 countries and economies in the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development that participated in PIAAC, some saw scores drop over the past six years, while others improved or held constant.
Still, as in previous years, the United States doesn’t compare favorably to other countries: The country ranks in the middle of the pack in literacy and below the international average in math. (Literacy and numeracy on the test are scored on a 500-point scale.)
But Americans do stand out in one way: The gap between the highest- and lowest-performing adults is growing wider, as the top scorers hold steady and other test takers see their scores fall.
Tumblr media
“There’s a dwindling middle in the United States in terms of skills,” said Peggy Carr, the commissioner of the National Center for Education Statistics, which oversees PIAAC in the country. (The test was developed by the OECD and is administered every three years.)
It’s a phenomenon that distinguishes the United States, she said.
“Some of that is because we’re very diverse and it’s large, in comparison to some of the OECD countries,” Carr said in a call with reporters on Monday. “But that clearly is not the only reason.”
Tumblr media
American children, too, are experiencing this widening chasm between high and low performers. National and international tests show the country’s top students holding steady, while students at the bottom of the distribution are falling further behind.
It’s hard to know why U.S. adults’ scores have taken this precipitous dive, Carr said.
About a third of Americans score at lowest levels PIAAC is different from large-scale assessments for students, which measure kids’ academic abilities.
Instead, this test for adults evaluates their abilities to use math and reading in real-world contexts—to navigate public services in their neighborhood, for example, or complete a task at work. The United States sample is nationally representative random sample, drawn from census data.
American respondents averaged a level 2 of 5 in both subjects.
In practice, that means that they can, for example, use a website to find information about how to order a recycling cart, or read and understand a list of rules for sending their child to preschool. But they would have trouble using a library search engine to find the author of a book.
In math, they could compare a table and a graph of the same information to check for errors. But they wouldn’t be able to calculate average monthly expenses with several months of data.
While the U.S. average is a level 2, more adults now fall at a level 1 or below—28 percent scored at that level in literacy, up from 19 percent in 2017, and 34 percent in numeracy, up from 29 percent in 2017.
Respondents scoring below level 1 couldn’t compare calendar dates printed on grocery tags to determine which food item was packed first. They would also struggle to read several job descriptions and identify which company was looking to hire a night-shift worker.
The findings also show sharp divides by race and national origin, with respondents born in the United States outscoring those born outside of the country, and white respondents outscoring Black and Hispanic test takers. Those trends have persisted over the past decade.

Pick a pile. Choose one or more pictures. Trust your intuition.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Pile 1: At first glance your future spouse looks like a very inaccessible, complex person, whom it is difficult to get close to and generally interest them in communication but the closer you get to know them, the more reveals themself to you as a very kind, caring, gentle person, ready to support you and help you in difficult times. I can say that this person has two sides and they decide which side to show themselves, depending on whether they consider you close, trust you or not (but in your case they will definitely consider you close, a loved one who can be trusted). They are those who rely on their intelligence and rationality, but often act based on their intuition, they have a lot of life experience. They are prudent, they know how to solve problems, how to find a way out of a situation, they often "do not look for easy ways", they can complicate their lives but this is because they want to do something different, bring something new to life, get a new experience. They are quite hardworking, they work very hard, mostly their work is in mental activity, so can quickly get tired of this. They like to reflect, share their deep thoughts, they can also look for hidden meaning where it may not be. If you are interested in esotericism, then a person can support your hobby, discuss topics from this area with you, or treat neutrally and listen to you about it but they will never condemn you about it. Your future spouse will also treat you with great tenderness, love and care, will try to make you happier, you are a very valuable and dear person for them, they will always feel that they are not doing enough for you, although they may even overdo it in some ways, often cause you pleasant embarrassment. They also respect you, respect your opinion, your personal boundaries, your desires and they respect parents, yours and theirs.
Tumblr media
Pile 2: Your future spouse is quite sensitive, gentle, romantic, sensitive, sentimental, a person of fine mental organization. They will love you with all their heart, will devote a lot of time and attention to you, most likely their language of love is words and gifts, they can often compliment you, notice details in your appearance or in your behavior, give you gifts. They are very kind people in themselves, they do not like to argue and participate in conflicts, they are quite calm in this regard, it is difficult to anger them but it is not difficult to offend or hurt their feelings. This person can also be private, someone who doesn't like to talk a lot about his sad thoughts and feelings, such as anger, sadness, resentment, etc. such emotions are suppressed and do not like to be exposed to the public. At the same time, your future spouse is a very smart, intelligent person, constantly engaged in self-development, improvement of their skills, promotion at work / study, they are quite active. They are also very fond of children and animals, so if you have any of these, they will treat them with all their love and care. They may also have younger siblings or nephews, whom they also treat well, do a lot for them. They may be creative people, engage in drawing, be interested in art, literature, music, may even work in this field or have a lot of knowledge in this field. They are also very spiritually developed, they can be religious. Your future spouse will support you in everything since you will be like the love of their life for them, they will protect you and treat you very carefully, they sincerely love you, they may even often tell their family, friends, and loved ones with great love about you. They show that they really love you, it is noticeable by their actions and by the way they look at you with love, talk about you, how they address you using affectionate words.
Tumblr media
Pile 3: Your future spouse is a person who works very hard, both in terms of career and in terms of self-improvement, they are constantly busy with important things, they may hold a high position at work, they may have several businesses, they themselves may be business partners for someone. Also, your future spouse has a very attractive, beautiful and sexy appearance, good physique, they have an alluring charisma that is difficult to resist. They like to flirt with their lovers very much, they can be overbearing, as they love to feel dominant, they can be a little jealous and possessive. They are also very active, like a mobile lifestyle, like to travel a lot especially in the company of someone, like to be in a circle of people, they are quite sociable and will always find a topic for conversation, they know how to maintain a dialogue. They are very proud, self-confident individuals, and with this vibe they energize people around them, inspire and motivate them. At the same time, they are quite empathic people, they experience the hardships of others as if they themselves had encountered them, in this regard they can be quite sensitive. They also tend to think about their shortcomings, fixate on failures and at such moments it is important to support them, show that they are loved and very successful people.
Thank you for reading! I will be glad of any feedback 🖤

Like Father, Like Son by milkpup
Chapter 1: Promises
--
“When we get older, let’s get married!” you exclaimed to Megumi, who was sitting next to you on the park bench. “We know each other best, so if we find no one else by the time we go to college, let’s get together!”
You were both in middle school still. You’ve been extremely close friends since you were young children. Megumi and his father lived in the same neighborhood as you. As a natural result of your home life being chaotic and dysfunctional, you spent most of your childhood at Megumi’s.
You were still girly and feminine, but having a guy best friend meant that you had interests more like his. You both grew up playing games together, sitting in front of the tv into late hours into the night. You were a sore loser. He was always better at any games you two played, like mario kart, fighting games, whatever it was, he was better. This meant you constantly tried to improve your skills; you wanted the satisfaction of making him lose, but you also wanted him to be impressed.
You didn’t quite understand it at the time. Why did you want to impress Megumi? It’s just a game. You brushed it off. Friendly competition never hurt, right?
--
Years pass, the same old routine. You coming over to Megumi’s house after school, staying late or sometimes spending the night. His father, Toji, saw you as his own. A daughter he never had.
It was hard after Megumi’s mother passed. Toji was more reserved, more monotonous. It seemed like the vibrancy and color of his soul was dulled. His wife was the one person he truly cared for, who he loved, and who gave meaning to his life. Being a single father of a young boy was rough. He appreciated that you brought joy to his son’s life. He appreciated that, as you grew older, you would help around at his house. Cooking, cleaning, whatever it was, you would help lessen the load on Toji.
--
In the middle of your senior year of highschool, tragedy struck the community. Your parents were killed by a drunk driver. It all happened so fast. You feel selfish and would never admit this, but you were sort of relieved. You rarely spent time at home. Your father was an abusive drunk and would target you and your mother. Your mother tried to protect you the best she could. She wanted you to be safe. She was always relieved when you would text or call her saying you were staying at Megumi’s. She trusted that boy and knew he would never be like your father.
You were sad your mother was gone. But at least she now knew peace. A tragic end, yes, but better than watching her be abused by your father.
You started living with Megumi full time. It was already basically your home in the first place, just more official now. You appreciated Toji welcoming you into his home with open arms, letting you live there full time. He was more of a father than your sperm donor parent was.
In return, you cooked and cleaned almost exclusively. You didn’t necessarily mind. You didn’t see it as demeaning, but rather as a way to show your gratitude. Cooking was also a cathartic release for you; it allowed you to remove yourself from tough emotions and focus on the task on hand. And you absolutely loved when people would praise your cooking. Thus, you were constantly trying new recipes and techniques, chasing new flavors.
Toji appreciated you basically taking on the household responsibilities while he worked long hours. He has a provider mindset. He wants to fulfill his role of providing while a woman in his life would take care of the home and enrich his life.
A few times he caught himself being reminded of his wife whenever you would do something for him. Your cooking tasted like home. Your smile and laugh were intoxicating. You had a gentle and kind soul, willing to look past anything for the right person. He felt almost uncomfortable, as if he should not be having thoughts of his late wife when looking at his pseudo-daughter. But he couldn’t help it. He’s a simple man.
--
“Good morning, Toji!” You say while something is sizzling in the pan. “I hope you’re feeling something sweet this morning!”
Toji smiles lightly. “What are you making today, little miss chef?”
“French toast!” You turn around to face him, wearing a cute apron and holding the spatula in your hand.
Toji notices the cooking must’ve gotten a bit messy, there was flour on your apron and some powdered on your cheeks. He thought it was insanely adorable.
“I’m excited to try it. Your food never ceases to amaze me.”
Good thing you had already turned back toward the stove, otherwise Toji would have saw the bright red blush creep across your face. “T-thank you… I’m glad you like it. It’s almost done.”
You could feel him watching you from behind. It was different than usual, you felt nervous? You couldn’t possibly know this at the time, but Toji was eyeing you down. Noticing the way your apron is tied around your waist, your ass in your cute shorts, messy hair, it was all perfect to him.
“All done!” You say as you start plating the French toast. “I’m going to go wake Megumi, but please try it while it’s still hot!!” You move to untie your apron, Toji never breaking his gaze on your form.
You walk towards Megumi’s room, approaching the door and knocking. “Heyyy Megs! Breakfast is ready! I know you like sweet food, so I made French toast! Come get it while it’s still hot!”
You don’t hear much behind the door, but your stomach rumbling forces you to go back to the table. You were practically drooling the whole time thinking about how delicious this food was going to be.
You re-enter the dining room and sit across Toji. He’s already started eating, and he looks like he’s enjoying it. You didn’t take him for a sweets for breakfast type of guy, so you ask him “Is it good?”
He looks up at you, and it sends shivers down your spine. “It’s delicious, sweetheart. I’ll eat anything you give me. Anything.” He smirks. He figures that isn’t crossing any lines, just playful banter and teasing. He watches your face turn a bit red as you try and hide it while eating.
--
Back in Megumi’s room, he’s slowly waking up. He doesn’t feel well-rested. “Probably due to that weird dream last night”, he thinks to himself. He doesn’t know why his brain chose now of all times to remember the promise you two made to eachother all those years ago. He figures you probably forgot about it; but for him, he can’t get it out his mind.
He shakes his head. “Whatever, I need to get ready.” He will deal with his feelings and emotions later. He remembers you mentioning sweet food and he’s already out the door. His hair is still messy, his pajamas still on.
As Toji moves to pick up his keys and leave for work, Megumi sits down next to you. He takes in the sweet aroma of French toast covered in powdered sugar and fruit. His stomach is painfully growling at this point. He serves himself and takes a bite, absolutely melting in bliss. You always make the best food, and this is no exception.
You watch as he seems excited to eat. He looks absolutely adorable, his emotions on full display as easily as a book can be read. You can tell he’s happy in this moment, and you find yourself smiling, knowing it was you that brought this.
“This is amazing. Thank you, Y/N. Seriously!”
You blush. Compliments and praise feel different from Megumi. They feel genuine and sincere, full of warmth and love.
You finish up and start cleaning. You and Megumi have the same major and a bunch of the same classes, you both need to get ready soon. Megumi gets up to help you clean.
As he stands next to your side, drying dishes as you wash them, he tells you his thoughts. He doesn’t know how to best bring it up. He’s a shy guy, so he goes for the most direct route to get it out as fast as possible. “Y/N, do you remember the promise we made in middle school?” He’s looking down at the sink, awaiting your response.
“Of course Gumi, how could I forget?” You’re slightly teasing him at this point. You were actually surprised that HE would remember that. You wonder why he’s bringing it up, and ask him. “Why?”
Silence follows your question for a few moments. “I’m not sure…. I was just thinking about it.”
Hearing his response makes you blush and your heart beat faster. What does he mean he was thinking about it? He can’t be serious?
“We can talk more about it later. We need to get ready, Y/N.” You’re thankful he gave you an opening to escape this awkward situation. It wasn’t a weird awkward, but more embarrassing than anything.
You keep asking yourself why he would be thinking about it, now of all times. You are starting college now, so you figure now would be the timeframe of the promise in question. But you didn’t think he would be serious about it. You return your room, trying to distract yourself by getting ready.
--
Megumi waits for you to finish getting ready in the living room. You exit your room, wearing simple yet cute clothes. Megumi finds it adorable how you can look good in literally anything. Even wearing the simplest outfits, leggings and a t-shirt, and you still look breathtaking. He feels weird again, thinking about his best-friend like this. He’s just simply observing and appreciating good style, right? That’s what he will tell himself.
You and Megumi carpool to campus together. You both say it’s for the environment, but you both know it’s because you absolutely hate driving.
The car ride there is always the same, listening to music together and talking. Since you both have the same classes, you are already study buddies. You’re both excited to keep going to school together.
Megumi listens as you talk about your newest fictional crush obsession. He thinks it’s so adorable how you could talk forever and ever about the things you like. He listens and observes, not wanting to interrupt your sweet voice.

hi im fucking insane and ultrakill somehow got me into angelology. heres some stuff on the archangel gabriel in reference to the occult/abrahamic magick
edit; added the meanings of the tarot at the bottom have fun ;)
As the Divine Herald, he is an angel of guidance, prophecies and revelations. He is also the Patron Saint of Messengers; mail carriers, news outlets, even ambassadors and politicians, anyone that delivers messages, he’s the one that watches over them. As the angel who will blow the first horn of the final judgment, he is seen to also represent judgment. In some modern interpretations, he is sometimes even seen as an angel of motherhood due to his announcement of the birth of Christ and John the Baptist and from this he is sometimes given the titles of Patron Saint and guardian of children. He represents the spiritual power of God, His ideals and principles of spirituality. As a result, he is seen as an angel of spirituality, dreams, divination and even magick.
He can be invoked for:
Guidance
Faith
Hope
Strength
Spiritual aid
Dreaming/dream interpretation
Theology
Understanding scripture
Birth
Here’s symbols he is associated with:
Element; Water (Spirituality, change, emotions)
Planet; Moon (Spirituality, magick, guidance)
Day of the week; Monday
Colors; White, silver
Animal; White dove (Holy Spirit)
Tarot; House of Cups, The Star, The High Priestess, Temperance, The Moon, Judgment*
Gemstones; Pearl, moonstone, emerald, diamond, quartz
Cardinal direction; West
Season; Winter
Other symbols; White lilies, trumpet, banner, feathers
How to connect with him:
Devotional Activities
Praying
Meditation
Fasting
Reading the Bible
Studying theology
Educating yourself about religion/sprituality
Material Offerings
Flowers (White lilies, white roses, lavender)
Incense (Jasmine, frankincense, lavender, rose)
White wine
Feathers
Perfume
Candles (White or silver)
Prayer cards
Bible verses
Poems/art
Moon, water, magick or religion associated items (moonstone, holy water, tarot card, etc.)
Archangels prefer devotional activities as offerings over material ones, though they will not reject them.
He can help with;
Lucid dreaming
Receiving visions
Developing divination skills and spiritual awareness
Lack of belief
Communication issues
Magick workings
When you feel lost/don’t know how to continue/unsure of how to move forward
His Kabbalistic sigil
Tumblr media
His seal from the Heptameron
Tumblr media
All in all, Gabriel is a very firm but merciful angel. He can be a bit pushy when you are not doing the right thing, but he is less rough about it than, say, Michael. He has a better understanding of human emotions than most angels and will act a bit more accordingly. When you don’t know where to go in life or have no ideas on how to move on, he is the one that should be contacted. He is also sometimes associated with the divine feminine due to his associations withe the moon and motherhood. He is usually seen as 3rd to God, with Michael and/or Sandalphon being 2nd.
Some extras about the archangels in general;
Angels mostly see humans like how we see dogs and often have a lesser understanding of human egos. It should be noted that angels have a bit of a reputation of being more difficult to work with due to them expecting a lot of discipline. They will not give you what you want, they will make you work for what you need. If one wishes to work with the archangels, they expect constant self improvement.
bit of a p.s; despite Archangel being the 2nd lowest on the hierarchy, they are the most powerful angels. Archangel is a rank and it means “governing angel” or “ruling angel”, they rule over other parts of the hierarchy (i.e Michael rules over the seraphim, Gabriel rules over the cherubim). Archangels are often called “the great princes”, however, Michael is the only one in the Bible to actually receive that title. The only reason why they are so low on the hierarchy is because they are physically far from God, as they spend their time on Earth helping humanity.
* What each of the tarot cards mean
House of Cups- relates to emotions and matters of the heart. Associated with love, feeling and inner conflict, they ask us to consider what is deeply important to us
The Star- the embodiment of hope and healing brings a message of renewal, optimism, and inspiration. When pulled, remember that the universe is working in your favor, and is encouraging you to have faith in where you are being taken.
The High Priestess- listen to your inner voice and follow your instincts, your mind knows far more than you think. When pulled, stop looking for answers around you and start looking within yourself for the guidance you seek.
Temperance- encourages peace and patience, reminds you to go with the flow of life instead of trying to force a pace and direction. When pulled, it is a message to take things as they come, and remain flexible enough to change with the changes.
The Moon- represents hidden thoughts, feelings, doubts, and fears. When pulled, you may be letting fear overtake your faith in the future. Do not be fooled, you cannot believe everything that you see, hear, or think. Once you bring your feelings to the surface and face them, only then can you rid yourself of worry.
Judgment- your past and future come together. When pulled, reflect on your decisions and actions you have made up until now and make sure that they are bringing you in the direction you want. Remember, your future is not set in stone, and it's never too late to make a change for the better.
thanks for listening to my madman ramblings baiiiii

Elmo is a Jerk and NPR Reporters are Meanies!
by Marie Newman
May 7
Tumblr media
I started formulating my opinions about Elmo and PBS a long time ago. About twenty years ago, I interviewed a PBS viewer, and he shared, “yea I don’t like him, he makes me be nice, when I don’t wanna.” That young viewer was my son, age 6 at the time. Clearly, Elmo was trying to influence my son.
I get it, really. The current president has had some negative experiences with both PBS stars and NPR news. They have asked him questions he does not want to answer. Rude!
Let’s examine Big Bird, weirdly tall, always happy (God only know what meds he is taking?). Also, there is always a chance he might be linked to a terrorist group or gang. Then there is Burt and his ever-present friend, Ernie. People do not like how cozy they are. Very suspicious. HMMMMMM.
I am equally concerned with programs like Masterpiece Theatre and Downtown Abbey. Absolutely subversive. Very stuck up, if you ask me.
And do not get me started with those doo-doo heads at NPR. They are always “investigating” or “exploring new worlds” or providing “Fresh Air.” All that truthing and incisive investigative work is exhausting. Then the cultural exposure to others’ traditions - good Lord, who wants all that interesting and enlightening stuff coming at you all the time? Their calm and earnest demeanors are just sneaky, I think. Yikes, you cannot trust a reporter who is not yelling at you with hyperbolic claims without data. Everybody knows that. Duh.
So Really, Tell Me What Has PBS Done for Children?
Studies have shown that PBS programs, particularly Sesame Street, have a positive and measurable impact on children's educational development. Here are some key stats on their effectiveness:
Literacy and Literacy Skills:
Research indicates that children who watch Sesame Street between ages 3-5 demonstrate:
Higher literacy scores (approximately 1 year ahead in reading readiness) compared to non-viewers.
Significant gains in letter recognition, phonemic awareness, and vocabulary.
School Readiness:
A study published in the Journal of Educational Psychology found that children exposed to PBS early childhood programs showed:
Better readiness for kindergarten.
Improved social-emotional skills and self-control.
Long-Term Academic Benefits:
Longitudinal research shows that children who engaged with PBS early learning content tend to:
Perform better in school in subsequent years.
Have higher graduation rates later in life.
Impact on Underserved Communities:
In low-income populations, PBS programs and resources have contributed:
To narrowing the achievement gap in early literacy and numeracy skills.
Increased access to quality educational content outside of classroom settings.
Cost-Effectiveness:
The Children’s Television Workshop (now Sesame Workshop) estimates that for every dollar invested in Sesame Street, there is a return of approximately $12 in societal benefits related to improved education and social outcomes.
What the Heck Does NPR Do -Why Do We Need It? Turns out quite a bit…
Audience Reach:
As of recent data, NPR reaches approximately 30 million Americans each week through radio, digital platforms, and podcasts.
NPR's digital content garners over 50 million unique online visitors monthly, indicating substantial engagement.
Trust and Credibility:
Surveys, such as those by Edelman, show that NPR consistently ranks among the most trusted news sources in the U.S., with over 60% of Americans trusting NPR for accurate and balanced news coverage.
The Pew Research Center reports that NPR is one of the most trusted media organizations, especially among adults seeking in-depth, unbiased reporting.
Informational Impact:
A Nielsen study found that 70% of NPR listeners feel more informed about current events after listening.
NPR's coverage of critical issues like politics, health, and science helps shape public understanding and debates.
Educational and Civic Engagement:
NPR's programming encourages civic participation, with many listeners stating that NPR coverage motivates them to vote or engage in community issues.
NPR podcasts have increased awareness of social issues; for example, podcasts like Code Switch and Hidden Brain have millions of downloads, expanding public discussion on race, psychology, and societal challenges.
Diversity and Access:
NPR's commitment to diverse voices and topics reaches underserved communities and minority populations, fostering inclusivity and broader societal understanding.
That, right there, just proves it, right? We, as a country just cannot be opening up people’s minds all the time. Too expensive and scary! We certainly can’t be giving parents a break while kids are viewing the likes of Cookie Monster, Julia, Count von Count or Tango. Those characters will certainly not help kids be more confident, comfortable in the world, articulate, interested in learning or joyful. Nope. They must go.
As for NPR, Whew! Let’s get rid of those talented reporters, producers, on-air talent, production teams that have delivered robust Peabody-award/Pulitzer-prize winning stories and interviews. All that fact-based, objective reporting cannot be good for anyone. Yuck!
Historical Record: Republicans have been trying to remove funding for PBS and NPR forever…
The efforts by some Republicans to defund PBS (Public Broadcasting Service) and NPR (National Public Radio) have been ongoing for several decades, reflecting broader debates over government funding of public media and its role for a half -century!
Early 1990s: Criticism of public broadcasting emerged from conservative circles concerned about perceived biases, content, and the cost to taxpayers. Some legislators proposed reducing or eliminating federal funding for PBS and NPR, but these efforts generally did not succeed in enacting significant cuts.
2000s: During the George W. Bush administration and subsequent years, there remained occasional proposals from some Republicans to cut federal funding for public broadcasting, often citing concerns over ideological bias or fiscal conservatism.
2011: A notable milestone occurred when the Republican-controlled House of Representatives proposed budgets that included substantial cuts to federal funding for PBS and NPR. This was part of broader austerity measures. While some funding was reduced, many of these cuts were not fully enacted or were reversed in later budget negotiations.
Recent Years: The debate has persisted, with some Republican lawmakers continuing to push for defunding or restricting federal support for public media, arguing it’s unnecessary government expenditure or that it promotes biased content. Conversely, supporters argue that public broadcasting provides an important educational and informational service, often serving underserved communities.
The attempts to de-educate Americans is nothing new, but must be stopped. As usual, use your voice and tell your story.
What Can Be Done?
1. Let the U.S. senate Majority Leader and Speaker of the House know how you feel ans share a story about how NPR and/or PBS have helped your family. Call your own senator in your state and then call:
Leader John Thune: 202-224-2321
Speaker Mike Johnson: 202-225-4000
2. Write An Opinion Editorial in your local paper
Have a great week folks and keep going my friends,

Howdy! If you’re still taking lancer build requests, I could use some help. I’m stumped on how to build my Sunzi for support with a pinch of controller, and find myself asking “How would Dr. Valentinian do it?”
Tumblr media
I was informed that you requested my advice on loadouts. Having now read your request, I feel as if you may be labouring under the misapprehension that I believe there's one correct loadout for all situations - allow me to assure you that no such loadout exists, nor do I believe that it does.
My ethos as regards the equipment choice for a mechanised chassis depends entirely upon the mission briefing and available intelligence. Who are we fighting? What chassis do they pilot? Are we outnumbered, or do we outnumber them? What are the strengths and weaknesses of both individuals within the opposing force and the opposing force as a whole? It goes without saying that these considerations will drastically affect my decisions as regards what equipment I bring with me.
Additionally, I am by no means an expert pilot. My speciality is blinkspace physics, with a secondary expertise in developing mechanised chassis. The majority of my children outpace me in piloting skill; I'm sure they could give you a far more comprehensive answer on this subject than I could.
All of this being said, I doubt you'd be satisfied without a straight answer, so allow me to humour you with the following loadout. I suppose you'll want me to name it as well, won't you? Very well - call this Sleipnir.
-- HA Sunzi @ LL6 -- [ LICENSES ] HA Sunzi 3, HORUS Minotaur 2, HORUS Goblin 1 [ CORE BONUSES ] The Lesson of the Open Door, Improved Armament [ TALENTS ] Skirmisher 3, Demolitionist 3, Grease Monkey 2, House Guard 1 [ STATS ] HULL:2 AGI:2 SYS:2 ENGI:2 STRUCTURE:4 HP:16 ARMOR:1 STRESS:4 HEATCAP:9 REPAIR:4 TECH ATK:+3 LIMITED:+1 SPD:5 EVA:9 EDEF:10 SENSE:15 SAVE:16 [ WEAPONS ] FLEX MOUNT: Warp Rifle MAIN/AUX MOUNT: Assault Rifle / Nexus (Light) [ SYSTEMS ] Personalizations, Blink Charges x4, Metafold Carver, H0R_OS System Upgrade I, Final Secret
Oh, you want me to explain it to you as well? I suppose I have time.
Sleipnir leverages synergies between the crude but effective blinkspace technologies developed by HORUS and the far more refined technologies I developed for the Sunzi frame. Metafold Carver's "Ophidian Trek" is an infinitely repeatable teleport that can be used to instantly rescue an ally from danger at up to range 15 simply by targeting them.
This revolves around the fact that you can target an ally with an invade and they can choose to make it automatically succeed; you don't even bother rolling dice to see how far you teleport them, because your Safe Harbor trait allows you to designate spaces adjacent to you (and this area expanded by the first rank of House Guard) as the endpoint of any teleport that affects an ally.
If you wish to pull an enemy out of position, you can use the same trick with your Blink Anchor; simply invade them using "Ophidian Trek," and then redirect them. This allows you to continue pulling enemies out of position even when your Blink Charges have been expended.
Speaking of Blink Charges, the Demolitionist talent also makes them more versatile, as they can now push enemies around (you choose the order of effects, meaning you can teleport an enemy and then push them back, allowing you to decide the exact direction of the knockback) and you can use them as mines without fear of losing limited charges.
I shouldn't need to explain to you the raw utility of the H0R_OS v1 system. If I do, you probably aren't competent enough to be piloting a mech.
That's all for now. I hope this was illuminating for you. As for me, I must get back to work.

Can I ask about homicidal Liu, Sully and Jason with a reader who never learned to read or write?
It made more sense in my mind to put Liu and Sully together in this one, I hope that's alright
Liu/Sully:
I think it's fitting in this case that Liu assists you because as one of the designated older brothers in the mansion, he did help tutor some of the younger creeps who didn't get to finish their schooling before coming to the mansion. Liu is an excellent teacher, and he's very patient in helping you to learn how to do things. I feel like he'd set time aside for you every day so that he could watch over you and help you further your skills. Sully is not as good of a teacher as Liu, but he still tries his best to help you with anything he can. I feel like he would prefer to do the writing exercises with you, so you can just watch what he does and learn from him. He's not good with instructing or general teaching, but he can at least participate with you in a way like that. He does check in with you whenever he's the one out to see how you're progressing, and he is always proud of you and encourages you. I think it's also a little bit of a nervous thing for Sully, as in my canon Sully was developed as a coping mechanism for Liu when their mother would abuse him, more specifically in her "teaching" Liu, so he just likes to quietly watch over you, even though he knows you won't have to go through that. Liu is always very kind when he teaches you, and he always makes sure to go at your own pace and provide rewards when you make a lot of progress. He also doesn't want you to ever have to be in a situation like he was, and so he makes sure you're actually enjoying yourself when you learn to read or write from him, instead of feeling like it's something you're forced to do.
Jason:
Jason is actually incredibly prepared for this. In my canon, Jason was originally crafted as a life-size mechanical toy helper in the Overworld to help children in toy shops and one of his tasks actually happened to be helping children with their learning. Of course, the situation is much different as you're both adults, and you're not just going to spend like 30 minutes with him and that be it, but nonetheless, he is more than happy to help you. Like Liu, he'd set aside a chunk of time every day so that he could help you, and he's actually a much better teacher than one might originally assume. Whenever he's helped anyone else he's always rigid and strict, but his love for you brings out his softer side, and he's very sweet and gentle as he teaches you. I can see him literally going all out and making a lesson plan and getting you a bunch of helpful books and essentially becoming an actual teacher, because he loves you so much and he wants to help you in any way that he can. It gives him a reason to spend more time with you, and so he's more than happy to assist you in learning anything that he can, it brings him a lot of joy to see you improving and taking his lessons seriously, it makes him all mushy inside and happy to feel like he has a purpose with you. He also rewards you for any progress you make, and he praises you constantly for how well you're doing, always saying he's so lucky to have you and to be able to be here to help you with this. You'll be well taken care of under Jason's tutoring, with his good teaching and constant affection during lessons.

Kai Chisaki's past headcanons
Since we won’t be getting any additional info anymore and for the sake of my own sanity, I have decided to create my own headcanon of Kai Chisaki’s past in detail and how he came to be the man we know as Overhaul based on the few crumbs we got in the manga.
Tumblr media
*Kai was born to a less than average income family and his parents also have similar deconstruct or reassemble quirks, although to much more limited matter.
*Overhaul is a complex quirk and young Kai initially struggled, especially with the reconstruction part. He would attempt to break down and repair his toys but fail more often than not. His parents were uncaring and did not make any effort to support or help their son improve his skill.
*A freak accident happens one day and Kai accidentally deconstructs one of his parents. Frightened, he tries to undo this accident but fails and his parent ends up completely disfigured. The remaining parent freaks out and says some atrocious things to him, similar words Overhaul used to say to Eri. (Ex. “Your existence is a curse”, etc.). I hc this happened when he was around 6-7 years old.
*Following this incident, the remaining parent takes their broken spouse and Kai to a quirk doctor, Dr Garaki, or another doctor associated with him. The doctor takes great interest in Kai’s ability and sees him as a potential candidate as one of AFO’s spare children. The parent wants to get rid of Kai asap and the doctor gladly takes him into the orphanage. Kai would be living there for several years.
*In the orphanage, Kai has to undergo a series of tests and exercises by making him use his quirk on objects, lab animals and sometimes even other children. This is where Kai begins to become more proficient in using his quirk, on both physical and living matter.
*The abandonment from his parents and the grotesque nature of the experiments causes Kai to fall into deep depression and existential crisis. At this point in his life, he hates his quirk and wonders why he was born with it, why was he born at all? He starts questioning everything. Where does this ability come from? Why do people like him exist? Why is the world this way in the first place?
*During one of the experiments, Kai brings up one of his questions to Dr Garaki, who answers what scientists currently know and while there is no concrete evidence, there are several theories, one of them being the mice theory which deduces that quirks are a virus originating from mice. He refers Kai to the small library in the orphanage.
*Kai then proceeds to read several books and science journals about this quirk phenomenon to understand the origin of quirks and the current state of humanity and studies the mice theory. To him, it all comes together. Quirks are a plague, a virus which comes from dirty animals which explains why quirks mutate so rapidly. Among all the material he has read, this had to be the truth because it made the most sense.  The reason why he’s the way he is and the reason why his parents abandoned him. He realized they are all infected and quirks don’t have any cure. This realization drives him into a frenzy and he develops a germaphobia, specifically against quirk users, since they will always remind him of the mice theory.
*Due to his phobia, Kai develops a further disgust for people and keeps to himself, avoiding other children in the orphanage.  He prefers to keep to himself and read books, learning new things about science and the world. He never formed any meaningful relationships in the orphanage.
*After some time Tenko was born, AFO began searching for the right quirk in the orphanages that he could give him to make Tenko an ultimate weapon of destruction and hate. Thanks to all the tests and experiments, Kai’s quirk catches AFO’s attention and he instructs Garaki to make a stronger copy of Overhaul but remove the reassemble part since the quirk should only be used to destroy.
*This time, Garaki needs to restrain Kai in order to extract his quirk genes to make a copy that focuses on the deconstruction part and enhance it, which would eventually become Decay. This would be done by Dr Garaki extracting blood and small pieces of flesh from Kai.
*Now, this experiment was not simply just to make a copy and remove the secondary function, the deconstruction part needed to be much more destructive at a much faster rate and unlike Overhaul, which only affects a single target, Decay has to affect multiple targets through a domino effect. It takes numerous tries to achieve this outcome. Other children would be given the copy to test it and many would perish in the creation of this quirk.
*The continuous pain and physical contact during the experiment leaves Kai in a frenzy and he completely breaks out in hives multiple times throughout the process. Regardless, the experiment continues until Decay turns out the way Garaki and AFO envision. This trauma continues until adulthood and he now breaks out in hives whenever someone touches him.
*At last, Decay is complete and AFO proceeds to give it to Tenko. Garaki doesn’t bother healing Kai because he knows Kai can fix himself. He is released back into the orphanage but has to stay there in case AFO needs any adjustments. He is still traumatized from the experiment and hates his quirk even more. He blames his quirk more than Garaki.
*Tenko’s quirk activated for the first time which meant the experiment was a success for AFO and Garaki. AFO informs Garaki about the progress and he leaves the orphanage to help him with the preparations of grooming Tenko. (Tenko was 5 years old when this happened so Kai is 12 at this point). A substitute is assigned to the orphanage during Garaki’s absence but they don’t really come through. Only a handful of kids are left since most of them died during the creation of Decay. With all the attention on Tenko, the children left at the orphanage are neglected and left to starve.
*Eventually Kai has enough and uses his quirk to escape. He runs into the night, not looking back or stopping until his legs can’t take it anymore. He wonders why he didn’t escape sooner but realizes he has nowhere to go and wanders aimlessly alone through the streets at night.
*He has a small panic attack and hives outbreak but this is overshadowed by hunger and fatigue. Eventually exhaustion takes over and he slumps down against a wall in an alley, falling asleep on the street.
*He wakes up the next morning, covered in dust and dirt from the ground but the raging hunger is too distracting to care. He looks for food but no one is willing to help this dirty kid. He considers going through trash but can’t bring himself to and goes on hungry.
*It’s already afternoon and only then does someone notice Kai. A middle-aged man calls his attention, offering to help him get home. Realizing this child doesn’t have a home, he adopts Kai and makes him part of the Shie Hassaikai.  To Kai, this act of kindness would never be forgotten and swore to himself he would repay this kindness no matter what.
*The life of a yakuza is not exactly the most suitable environment for a child/teen to grow up in, and “affection” would be shown through tough love or ’roughing up until set straight’. (The traditional Asian way).  Pops did attempt to ask Kai about his past but Kai’s answers are very vague so Pops does not pry further. The trauma doesn’t get addressed and shows some behavioral problems from him later on.
*Kai eventually befriends Kurono Hari who grew up with the Shie Hassaikai. Hari shows Kai the ropes of being a yakuza, and also gives him tips about the gangster life. Kai quickly adapts into his new home and Hari becomes his closest and most trusted friend, joining and supporting whatever Kai comes up with.
*Kai truly cherishes Pops and his new home, to the point that he gets into fights with other kids for insulting his new home, or comparing them to villains, who he considers sick. Pops thanks him for defending the Shie Hassaikai’s honor and Kai makes this his life mission. As mentioned before, Pops showed affection through a “tough love” style, so hearing praise like this was rare. Kai secretly craved to be given more appreciation and affection, which is something he never received as a child, and the reason why he goes far and beyond just to ‘repay his debt’ to Pops.
*Eventually, Kai comes to terms with his “infection”. The quirk he blamed for his abandonment and suffering is now seen as a tool he needs to use to defend the Shie Hassaikai. And he knows his quirk makes him powerful. He needs this power to protect his home and become the man the Shie Hassaikai needs.
*Kai started wearing a facemask during his teenage years, wanting to protect himself from breathing the same air as his filthy, quirk-ridden classmates.
*The exposure to illicit activities and fights among gangs and other gang members made Kai truly develop his fighting and social skills. He learns how to charm, manipulate and intimidate to get his way. Above all, he leaves his enemies dead or near dead after a battle, instilling fear in not only rival gangs but also his own members. He quickly becomes well-known among the yakuzas as a deadly and fearsome individual who should not be taken lightly. Pops does not approve of Kai getting into these kinds of fights but Kai considers this part of repaying his debt.
*The yakuza influence is diminishing in society as one after another organization gets disbanded. Kai is hurt from seeing their organization backed into a corner and he blames the quirk plague, believing that quirks cause further delusion to use them for heroic or villainous causes. He imagines that the world would be a more ideal place for the yakuza if there were no more quirks. No heroes to oppose them and no villains to take their rightful place in the underworld.
*He proceeds to make the Shie Hassaikai more powerful by gaining more recruits and money. He does so by getting into ring fights to garner more respect and also starts businesses such as loan sharks and drug dealing for more income. Pops also does not approve of this and calls him out.
*Pops and Kai frequently clash about his methods. Pops believes in adjusting to the new normal as a yakuza but Kai cannot agree to this and wants the yakuza to come back to power, standing by ‘the end justifies the means’ philosophy.
*One fateful day, Pops’ daughter calls him out of the blue, panicked about her daughter’s ability, unceremoniously drops Eri off at the Shie Hassaikai’s compound and leaves to be never heard of again. Pops notices that Eri’s quirk has similarities to Kai’s and (foolishly) thinks it would be a good idea to have Kai look after her and study her, somehow hoping Kai would connect to her and have something else to do rather than engaging in criminal businesses.
*There is an instant aversion towards Eri when Kai first sees her, which is because she reminds him too much of himself. But then he studies and starts understanding her ability, realizing she could actually revert back humanity to their original state- quirkless. After all this time, all the suffering caused by quirks, the hopeless truth of the mice theory- at last there was an answer and Eri could make it all go away. He finds a way to use her quirk genes the very same way Garaki had done to him. He comes up with a plan that not only answers his questions to his former existential crisis, but also a way to help the Shie Hassaikai. If there were no more heroes or villains to oppose their place, the yakuza could rise to power again. In addition to that, they could also make so much money if they monopolized quirks. All the previous struggles he had could be fixed through Eri.
*Kai proposes this plan to Pops and we all know how that ended. When Pops threatens to kick him out, Kai falls into despair, afraid to lose the one thing that matters most to him. He puts Pops into a coma so he can proceed with his plan unopposed but he does feel very guilty about hurting him but comforts himself in the thought that all of what he’s doing is for Pops, to repay his kindness. He discards his name, going by the name of his quirk instead which he formerly detested, and wears a plague mask instead, symbolizing he is on the pursuit to cure the world.
Spoiler alert: no more arms and no more Shie Hassaikai.

Hey, sorry to bother you, but I've been seeing something in the fandom that kind of confuses me, so I'm leaving this ask to my favorite svsss blogs.
I've been trying to get more into Shen Jiu's character, as he is pretty interesting and arguably a fan favorite, and I've noticed that, so far of the fanfics I've read, he is more often than not depicted as a good teacher. A harsh one, but still good? Or not terrible?
One that likes teaching, is involved with his students, taking the little of what we've seen of Shen Yuan's teaching methods and just, giving them a twist, "improving" them even sometimes.
Often it ends up being a show of how Shen Yuan was clumsy, not that good of a teacher (or of a Shen Qingqiu) and I'm... Kind of confused by this trend? Like, is it rooted in canon? Obviously this is still more interesting to read than the "SJ is just a tsundere that never did anything wrong ever" thing, but it feels kind of similar.
I cannot imagine a character as genuinely bitter and angry as Shen Jiu enjoying being a teacher, having a nurturing bone in his body or even being hands on in the teaching of his disciples, several of which he literally bullied out of his peak. But maybe it's just me and I'm wrong?
Was Shen Jiu a good teacher?
I guess I'm just curious of where it comes from. I like Shen Yuan's character, and it often feels like people take Shen Jiu's to show how bad at everything SY is, even if it isn't consistent with SJ's character and often lack nuances, in my opinion.
(Or even if the story claims loving SY while also stripping him away of everything that makes him interesting other than his obliviousness, but that's a whole other thing.)
Sorry again, and I also apologize for the long ask, I'd just figured you or someone that follows you might have an answer.
(Also, I get that fandoms gotta fandom, and I'm not saying people shouldn't write it or anything, I may be a strickler for canon but I'm not the police. Write what you want. I just wonder where it comes from, as I figure that knowing its origins might help me in the future, but I promise I'm not trying to start discourse or anything, so I hope I've made my point clear enough without offending anyone.)
hello!! :DD
well sj being ooc in fics is a common thing by now. people tend to portray him softer than he's in canon, to the point it sometimes turns his whole character upside down. in extreme cases, you'll be dealing with a bitter, more tsundere version of sy with sj's backstory, which is secretly what many people want IMO lol often this people also perceive sy as an incompetent dumb nerd that only knows about monster lore and has no other skills or abilities aside from that-- essentially, they fall for the unreliable narrator's trap of believing every lie he tells about himself.
it's never outright stated, but sj didn't like children, so is fair to assume he didn't like teaching or caring for them either. taking into account qing jing peak's toxic atmosphere pre sy's transmigration, AND the fact that sj was paranoid about being overthrown since he hadn't developed a golden core even after becoming a peak lord and taking lbh in, I don't think he'd be interested in teaching anyone anything. in a lot of cultivation novels, disciples are just given manuals and left to self-study them (like he let lbh use the fake manual, expecting lbh would die from using it. haha. such a good teacher!). this could be the case. aside from that, I don't personally think sj would want to provide any kid guidance. and that's not mentioning how he allowed and enabled bullying, targeted talented disciples, and overall was more worried about his own cultivation and survival and reputation than other things or people.
so where this fanon sj comes from? I'm not sure, really, but I think some people just want a version of him that's palatable AND defensible, like my friend furby says, a declawed sj that's just a poor misunderstood meowmeow who deep inside is secretly good and nice. it's a thing that people who struggle with liking "villainous" or "morally bad" characters do: twisting the narrative around to justify this character's actions. It doesn't help that he's SO complicated, and people who have very black-and-white thinking struggle to place him in either side of the spectrum-- it's the problem mxtx outlined through sqh and sqq's voices
Tumblr media
ch.14 house arrest
Tumblr media
ch.19 shen jiu
really, the fandom has just proved mxtx's point xD
anyway, there's a lot of misconceptions about sj. there are some pretty wild theories around. some fans also treat his abuse as The Worst Abuse in comparison to the Child Abuse he did, because of the (unconfirmed) hints that sj was sexually assaulted by qiu jianluo, as if SA is the worst kind of abuse and child abuse falls back on the tier-list ¯_(ツ)_/¯ because obviously anything that involves sex in inherently worse, apparently
in other cases, people are simply more familiar with the fanon version of the characters, and that's who they portray in their writing. after all, many people read the novel once and then go on to read dozen of fics; it's normal the fanon sticks more on the brain than canon (not judging! it happens to me as well lol) and those fanon versions are more popular because, as i said, this version of sj is more morally palatable (and bland and less fun ┐(︶▽︶)┌)
thank you for the ask!! :DDDD ❤️❤️❤️ i love receiving asks~

Prayer To Athena by Liz “Morning Dove” La Posta
Oh, wise Athena with your spear and shield, protect me and my family from injustice and harm. Council me with your wisdom so that I may make the best decisions. Grant me success in my endeavors, but keep me humble so that I might not become condescending to others. I thank you for the many times you have guided me on my Path. Share with me your mysteries and I will do my best to follow. Athena my Goddess, I pray this in your sacred name, and I vow to always be your faithful dedicant.
Prayer to Athena for Wisdom
Clear-eyed Athena, unrivaled in wisdom, daughter of Zeus and Metis whose craft and wit excelled among the mighty Titans: Athena, I pray to you. Wise in all things you are, goddess; your cunning and guile are well known. In time of war you have no equal in tactics or in strategy; many armies have you guided to victory. In time of peace your blessings fall on those whose work is of the mind–friend of the philosopher, the scientist, the student. Advisor of kings, patron of clever heroes and bold-hearted adventurers, defender of the thinker, mistress of reason and understanding, goddess to whom a strong arm and a sharp sword are nothing without the sense to wield them well and the insight to know when words are worth more than weapons. Athena, grant me a sound mind and steady temper, bless me with good judgment, show me the long view.

Actually I'm not done talking about the Damian grew up in a cult thing. You see, the thing you might not get if you're relying on a pop-culture understanding of cults, is that they are very very good at brainwashing people and they dont let you know theyre doing it. It is their entire purpose in fact. Their entire purpose is to strip you of every bit of personality and individuality you have, take away your will to object, take away your ability to think and reason critically about what they're telling you, and then selectively feed you only what they want you to believe, and all of it without you even noticing its happening, like boiling a crab. They are very good at isolating you so you have nobody to snap you out of it. They are very good at making you distrusting and even afraid of the outside world so that you never willingly leave. They are very good at stripping away your self esteem and your confidence and your ability to trust yourself and your decisions so that you never make decisions contrary to their goals.
Let me make this clear: cults do not let you think. Cults do not let you use your own moral compass. Cults do not let you be opposed to anything they do.
Now imagine someone didn't just end up in a cult later in life, imagine they weren't trusting of the wrong person and that led to their being stuck in a cult, imagine instead that they were born in it. Imagine they didn't just have their personhood and individuality stripped away, imagine they were never allowed to develop it in the first place. Imagine they have never in their lives experienced a world outside that group, they can't even picture what it would be like. Imagine they never learned critical thinking skills, imagine they don't know how to just THINK about what they believe beyond what's been fed to them.
Imagine you are that person and you've just been forced to leave your entire world. Everything you believe is no longer true and you cant tell what IS true. Now that you're forced outside the cult, you're now in a situation you've been conditioned to be more afraid of than any other situation, even death. Now imagine yourself at ten years old and think of the scariest thing you experienced at that age and how lost and confused you felt and how little context and coping skills you had, and then think of the difference between how well you would be able to handle that same thing now versus when you were ten. And then take that difference and apply it to how you imagined it might feel like leaving a cult for you now at your current age.
Do you get it? Do you understand why Damian would've at first fallen back on familiar patterns of behaviour instead of immediately and perfectly molding to his new environment? Do you see why Damian needed a bit of time to adapt, let alone start forming a better moral compass?
Grown adults have fallen into much worse behaviors after leaving even milder cults than Damian did. Grown adults have come out the other side of cults that look like nothing in comparison to the League of Assassins, and never had the strength of will to grow or learn or improve. And Damian was a kid, even more vulnerable and impressionable and with even less maturity and mental and emotional strength. And he's LEARNING. He's growing and changing and improving and becoming a better person and developing his own ideals and standing by them. He's only four years out from leaving the League and he's already done so much. Some people leave cults much tamer than that and take their entire lives to make the progress he did. He's doing fucking incredible. And that's not even getting into the whole "being forced to kill as a child" thing.
Also here's some reading you can do on the mental effects of cults on children whove grown up in them:
EDIT: adding a basic model for understanding how cults function:

Writing Exercises
Tumblr media
What is a writing exercise?
A writing exercise, also known as a writing activity, is a creative exercise designed to develop an a person’s written communication skills and familiarize them with different writing styles.
Why participate in a writing exercise?
Many people participate or do a writing exercise for several reasons. The obvious one is to improve and develop writing skills. Other reasons may include warming up before diving into your own writing project, spark new ideas, or practice specific writing techniques.
There are also so many benefits to writing exercises, such as improving creativity and critical thinking skills, enhancing literacy, increase self confidence and emotional well being, and, most of all, it’s fun!
So, without further ado, here are a few writing exercises to kick off your Wednesday!
Write a review about a restaurant at which you recently ate. Try to be as detailed as possible. Personally, I love it when people describe the way the food looks, smells, and how it was presented.
Read a book that you just couldn't put down? Write about it! Tell us why you couldn't put it down. Give us a run down of the story, why it grabbed your attention, and describe your favorite scene or chapter. If there was a scene or chapter you didn't care for very much, write about that, too.
This is one I like to call Children Ask Too Many Questions (totally not what it's called). Basically, you keep asking your character(s) why. Example: My tummy hurts. Why does your tummy hurt? I ate some bad food. Why did you eat bad food? It was the only thing I had in the fridge. Why was that the only thing you had in the fridge? I haven't been to the store yet.
Search your surroundings and pick an object. It could be a phone, flower, pen, or whatever you want. Then, write a short story based around this object.
Stream of Consciousness is a common exercise that I do often. It's a style of writing that portrays your natural thought process. You just write whatever comes to mind. I don't set a timer. Some do. It's really up to you. I usually do this until I get out of my writing funk (writer's block). You can also apply this writing exercise from the perspective of your character(s).

The Anxious Generation author on how to fight back against big tech
‘No smartphones before 14; no social media until 16’: One year on, Jonathan Haidt talks about the way his book changed the global conversation around children and digital devices – and explains how he handles his own teenagers
Jonathan Haidt is a man with a mission. You’ll have to forgive the cliche, because it’s literally true. The author of The Anxious Generation, an urgent warning about the effect of digital tech on young minds, is based at New York University’s business school: “I’m around all these corporate types and we’re always talking about companies and their mission statements,” he says. So, he decided to make one for himself. “It was very simple: ‘My mission is to use my research in moral psychology and that of others to help people better understand each other, and to help important social institutions work well.’”
This is characteristic of Haidt: there’s the risk that writing your own brand manifesto might seem a bit, well, pompous. What comes across instead is the nerd’s desire to be as effective as possible, combined with the positive psychologist’s love of self-improvement (one of his signature undergraduate courses is called Flourishing, which sets students homework such as “catch and analyse 10 automatic thoughts”).
The Anxious Generation, out in paperback, follows books on happiness, political polarisation and campus culture wars. It’s an evidence-based but thoroughly mission-driven call to action: smartphones, he argues, are largely responsible for a collapse in young people’s mental health since 2010. The gloomy picture takes in increased anxiety, depression, even self-harm and suicide (with hard indicators such as an uptick in emergency room admissions for self-inflicted injuries meaning that it can’t be down to increased “awareness” or diagnosis creep). There are ways out of the mess, Haidt says, but time is limited, particularly if we want to avert the even greater threat posed by AI.
The book has sold 1.7m copies in 44 languages, capturing the attention of a different anxious generation – parents thankful they were born too early for the phone-based childhoods Haidt describes in dispiriting detail, but desperate for guidance now they have children of their own. His statement of the problem, and straightforward advice on what to do about it, has convinced policymakers, too. In Australia, where a ban on social media for under-16s will take effect later this year, his work has changed the law. The wife of the politician who helped design the legislation was reading The Anxious Generation in bed, Haidt told one interviewer, “and she turns to him and says: ‘You’ve got to read this book, and then you’ve got to effing do something about it.’”
So what is his prescription to reverse, or at least treat, what he calls the Great Rewiring of children’s lives? He sets out “four norms” that parents, and society at large, should adopt: no smartphones before the age of 14; no social media until 16; phone-free schools; and far more unsupervised play and childhood independence. Although The Anxious Generation has largely been seen as a book about digital devices, it’s as emphatic about that last point. Boomers, gen Xers and even millennials enjoyed plenty of free play outside when crime rates were much higher than they are now. Modern parents, exposed to a diet of constant bad news, are more paranoid. This stunts development, reducing the opportunity to learn skills such as cooperation and conflict resolution, to overcome fears and, well, to have fun.
Essentially, he argues, we’re guilty of overprotection in one place (the real world) and underprotection in another (online). “I think that was one of the important points of Adolescence,” he says, referencing the Netflix show that dramatised the influence of the “manosphere” on teenage boys. “We all freaked out in the 90s about the outside world. We all thought our kids are in danger if they’re not in our sight, and so we’ve stopped letting them out, and we thought: well, as long as they’re on computers, that’s good. They’ll learn to program. They’ll start a company. One of the poignant moments in [the show] was when the parents said: ‘We thought he was safe. He was just up in his room.’”
The four norms look simple enough on paper. But what about the fiendish reality of enforcing them, particularly if your children are already extremely online? “What I found in the year since the book came out is that parents with young children love it,” Haidt says. “They’re excited, like: yes, we’re going to do this. Whereas parents of teenagers have more mixed reactions, for exactly the reason that all of us are already so deeply into this.”
Haidt has two children of his own with artist and photographer Jayne Riew: a girl of 15 and a boy of 18. “The advice that I give to parents of teenagers is, if you recently gave your child a smartphone or social media, you can take it back. Give them a flip phone, a brick phone, a dumb phone. The key is you want your kids to be able to communicate with their friends, but you don’t want to give them over to for-profit companies [whose] goal is to hook your child.”
“Now, if your kids are 15 or 16 and their entire social lives are on Instagram and Snapchat, it would be very painful to cut them off,” he says, “because they’ll experience that as social death. So the key strategy … is to help them take back their attention by creating large parts of the day where they’re not on it.” Ban devices in the bedroom, push for phone-free schools, do everything you can to expand the window of time spent away from addictive tech.
Back in 2019, when he was laying down ground rules for his own children, the evidence pointed to social media as the greater evil, particularly for girls. So he banned that, rather than phones per se. “My daughter says she’s the only person in her high school who doesn’t have Snapchat.” Isn’t he worried about her being left out? “Her friends have compensated for it. They say when there’s something important going on that she needs to know about, they’ll text her so she’s not entirely out of the loop, and it’s been great, because she is really involved in the real world. She runs track, she does sewing and makes clothing.” Even so, he would do things slightly differently now: “The rule I wish I had followed was no screens in the bedroom, ever. My kids seem to need their computers and their phones more than they would have if I’d had a better policy.”
Haidt clearly loves his job, and sets great store by what he regards as the truth-telling function of academic research. But with the book’s success, is there a risk he morphs into a kind of activist? Yes, he concedes, though he doesn’t seem unhappy about it. “Once I came to realise the full extent of what is happening to literally hundreds of millions of children – I mean, human consciousness is being changed at an industrial scale – and the fact that AI is not yet entangled in our world, but in two years it will be very hard to do anything – I [felt] a kind of a campaigner’s zeal to get this done, to get the norms changed this year.”
When I mention a colleague who hears from her kids that “everyone does their homework using ChatGPT he nods, and says “this is a potentially unsolvable problem for education. Like all teachers, we’re struggling to figure out what to do. It makes it easy for everyone to do their homework, but students need to learn how to do hard things.”
Does his newfound zeal mean it’s harder for him to admit he might be wrong? To give counterarguments their due? “Oh, yeah, I suffer from confirmation bias like everyone else. I have a whole book on confirmation bias, practically [2012’s The Righteous Mind]. And so that’s why one thing that we’ve done from the very beginning is seek out contradictory views, talk to our critics, have them publish on the Substack.” Haidt, with researcher Zach Rausch, maintains a running commentary on the evidence base for the Great Rewiring at afterbabel.com. There, he posts “responses to sceptics” who question the link between screens and declining mental health. Some claim there are better explanations, such as Covid (though indicators of wellbeing started declining in 2010) or the climate crisis (though preteens, rather than more politically aware adolescents, seem to be particularly affected – the opposite of what you’d expect if climate worries were responsible).
In March 2024, psychologist Candice Odgers wrote a review of The Anxious Generation in Nature. She said: “Hundreds of researchers, myself included, have searched for the kind of large effects suggested by Haidt. Our efforts have produced a mix of no, small and mixed associations,” adding that “most data are correlative”. In other words: the problem may have coincided with the introduction of smartphones, but we can’t say that there’s a causal link. Odgers instead leans towards the idea that people with pre-existing problems use social media more, or in more destructive ways.
Haidt comes out fighting, though, citing “dozens” of papers, including, for example, a meta-analysis of 26 studies that found the risk of depression increased by 13% for each extra hour spent on social media. “She accused me of not knowing the difference between correlation and causation. That has structured the debate ever since. And the strange thing about that review, I just looked back at it the other day, what I realised is there’s not a single word that indicates that she read past chapter one.” This seems hard to believe, but, Haidt says, “I had a long section in chapter six specifically titled ‘correlation versus causation’”. When I asked her to respond to this later, Odgers said: “The issue is not a failure to understand the distinction between correlation versus causation, it is the failure to apply this understanding when making causal, and frankly damaging, claims about young people that will be heard by millions of people.”
“I love debating and arguing, and that’s what drew me to academic life … but the accusation that I don’t understand the difference in correlation and causation, I guess that did get to me”, Haidt says.
One important part of the puzzle, he says, is that companies have acknowledged that children are vulnerable in internal reports never intended for public consumption. He cites one by TikTok, for example, admitting that the app was “popular with younger users who are particularly sensitive to reinforcement in the form of social reward and have minimal ability to self-regulate effectively”.
If the evidence is so strong, what does he think drives his critics? “I think some of them seem to be motivated by an admirable desire to defend the kids, to say, ‘Look, if this is what the kids are doing, we adults shouldn’t criticise’.” He claims that “some of the researchers are deep video gamers, and they went through this whole thing about ‘Do violent video games cause violence?’. So they seem especially primed to see everything as just a replay of previous moral panics.”
I also wonder whether he’s got people’s backs up through his interventions in academic life, railing against what he sees as progressive overreach. His 2018 book with Greg Lukianoff, The Coddling of the American Mind, was based on an Atlantic piece of the same name, though it’s more careful and caveated than the title makes it seem (editor Don Peck zhuzhed it up from Arguing Towards Misery: How Campuses Teach Cognitive Distortions). The idea is that colleges have become highly risk-averse places, where students expect to be shielded from difficult ideas, and faculty and administrators live in fear of career-wrecking complaints based on offended sensibilities.
There are many reasons for this turn, Haidt argues, some of which overlap with those set out in The Anxious Generation: overprotective parenting raising a generation of fragile, nervous kids, for one. He cites the expectation of good “customer service” driven by high tuition fees, and an administrative culture of “CYA” (cover your ass). But he also blames a lack of “viewpoint diversity” among faculty, leading to a moribund, timid intellectual environment and a failure to push back against overly empowered students.
This argument hits a little differently in 2025, with the Trump administration carrying out an unprecedented assault on universities, and using “woke” culture on campus as its primary justification. A letter sent by officials menacing Harvard specifically demands “viewpoint diversity in admissions and hiring”. Is it a case of be careful what you wish for? Or, more directly, did Haidt’s championing of this issue provide ammunition for the current war against academic independence?
“I don’t think the fact that I’ve been calling for reform since 2011 should be used against me when the fact that there wasn’t reform became a trigger for Donald Trump,” he says. Haidt believes the progressive monoculture that produced calls to, among other things, defund the police and abolish standardised tests alienated “normies” to the extent that Trump rode into office “on a wave of revulsion about what’s happening on campus and more broadly in society”. Surely inflation, the cost of living, played a larger role in voters’ rejection of the Democratic candidate? Haidt concedes that “it contributed”, but otherwise sticks to his guns in a way that, to me, suggests he’s a little too immersed in this particular debate to see the bigger picture. Which is not to say he isn’t outraged by the way things have unfolded. Still speaking softly and precisely, he unleashes the Haidtian version of a tirade.
“Trump is a deeply unstable, narcissistic man who has a zero sum view of the world and a strong sense of vengeance. And now [he’s] using the power of the federal government and the department of justice to harass and harm his enemies … this is the most shocking transformation of America I’ve ever heard of. So while I have been a critic of schools like Harvard that, you know, was ranked as the worst university for free speech in the country … now everything is reversed.” He adds that “[Trump] is especially using antisemitism as a cudgel. I don’t think that’s his real motivation. And while I have always stood for the value of viewpoint diversity, so I think President Trump is not wrong to call for it, I’ve also always stood against government micromanaging what universities do.”
In The Coddling … Haidt declared himself “a centrist who sides with the Democratic party on the great majority of issues” and said that he had never voted Republican for Congress or the presidency. More recently, he stated: “I was always on the left. Now, I’m nothing. I’m not on any team.” Either way, he has undoubtedly annoyed progressives who take a more instinctively tribal approach. A contrarian by nature, he also sees that instinct as an essential part of any intellectual’s toolkit. His postdoc supervisor, cultural anthropologist Richard Shweder, modelled “an incredible playfulness with ideas and a joy in intellectual perversity, which means his dictum was: if someone asserts it, deny it and see how that goes. And if someone denies it, assert it and see how that goes.”
Does that make him a bit irritating? “Oh, yes, it does,” he says, without a trace of offence. That’s the point: “The founding story of the academic world is Socrates being a gadfly.” Does it ever bleed into his personal life? “My wife and I have long had a conflict of truth versus beauty, and in my view, she is willing to sacrifice truth for beauty. I have to have a footnote for everything. There has to be a source for everything. And that sometimes makes me annoying to her.”
“Carried to excess it [has] the risk of know-it-allism, and I’ve been accused of that by my wife – and several ex-girlfriends. So yeah, I think my strengths are also my weaknesses. The same is true for everyone.”
The Anxious Generation started life as a different book about the corrupting effects of social media on democracy. After he’d written one chapter, Haidt realised that the scale and urgency of the problem faced by children and teens meant it would have to be about them instead. He still has plans to go back to the first idea, but given everything that’s happened, he’s taking two or three years “off” to support the movement he’s started (“I don’t have to drive it, I just have to help it along”). He says he’s optimistic – “very optimistic that we’re going to, if not fully solve it, make enormous progress – we already are.”
This is energising, but I note that, when discussing “green shoots” of hope back in 2018, he welcomed the new, socially responsible approach taken by Facebook and Twitter, including the latter’s commitment to “increase the collective health, openness, and civility of public conversation”. “Yeah, that died. That green shoot did not go very far,” he sighs. And in a follow-up exchange, he strikes an even darker note. I ask about the broader picture, is he concerned about … the end of civilisation as we know it?
Somewhat alarmingly for a man who first made his name in the Pollyanna-ish field of positive psychology, he really is. “I am extremely worried about social collapse,” he emails. “Technology always changes societies, and we are just beginning the biggest technological change in history. It will only speed up as AI becomes entangled in everything. So we are headed into very dangerous times, especially for liberal democracies that require some degree of shared facts, shared stories and trusted institutions.
“This is part of the reason I feel such urgency to protect kids now, this year, 2025. The next two generations may face challenges beyond anything we can imagine. They need to be strong, competent and in control of their attention.”
