Rags to Riches Challenge (Revised) - Sims 3

Hey guys! A while ago, I told myself that I wouldn’t attempt to do another challenge until I completed the Sweet & Sour Legacy Challenge, but I lied. As of lately, I have been in the mood to do the Sims 3 Rags to Riches Challenge, but I noticed that it was a lil’ outdated. Sooo, I decided to add and change some of the rules to the Rags to Riches Challenge because I wanted to enhance and toughen the gameplay.

S T O R Y L I N E:

You’ll start with a blank slate—a single Sim with zero Simoleons. Your Sim has been dealt a rough hand in life and is now starting from the absolute bottom of society. They have nothing, but a will to survive and succeed. Will your Sim rise to the challenge? Or, will the weight of their past keep them from reaching the heights they dream of?

The choice is yours—but one thing is certain: success will come at a cost.

T H E U L T I M A T E G O A L:

In this challenge, you struggle your way from homelessness to a rich life! The goal of this challenge is to earn §100,000 in household funds, and fulfill your Sims Lifetime Wish.

R U L E S:

Create a Sim or select a Sim from a household. The Sim can be female or male, but they must be a Young Adult. 

Style your Sim in a worn-out look to reflect a more rugged, carefree style.

Give your Sim the traits of your own choice, but you need to give them the ‘Living in the Lap of Luxury’ Lifetime Wish.

Have your Sim move into an EMPTY LOT of any size, and then build/upgrade your Sims house as you progress in earning Simoleons (Remember: your Sim has to live on the same lot the entire time, they cannot move until their Lifetime Wish is completed).

Feeling extreme? You are not allowed to buy a bed, toilet, shower, and a fridge until you have enough Simoleons to build a house. (OPTIONAL)

Change the household funds to §0. (Open the cheat window (CTRL, Shift, C), and type in "familyfunds ________ 0". Replace the lines with the last name of your Sim). 

Visit friends'/partner houses or community lots for your Sims needs, if needed.

Relationships and marriages are allowed, but your Sims partner or spouse must be unemployed. And if they move in, deduct ALL of the Simoleons that your partner or spouse brings in.

Lifetime points can be used, but you cannot use inheritance or the Dusty Old Lamp.

No public transportation (ex: taxis and subways).

No stealing objects.

No engaging in real estate or growing money trees.

No purchasing any lottery tickets or traveling to the future to cheat the lottery.

Once your Sim has earned at least §10,000 in household funds, they are allowed to travel to other worlds.

Do NOT get a part-time/full-time job or profession. It will defeat the purpose of the challenge.

Do NOT use any money cheat codes (ex: motherload, kaching, or rosebud).

꒰ ‎﹒ Yuusei Ueda setting and prologue

This post is mostly a worldbuilding of Yuusei's home and more context of how he got summoned into twisted wonderland.

Back home:

Yuusei has skills in fishing and surfing.

Minamiizu is a tiny seaside town at the southern tip of the Izu Peninsula. In summer, the town comes alive with festivals and surfers.

People in his town don't move out and since it's a small town he has known everyone since baby. For this reason, he had more difficulty making friends with "outsiders".

He was really into (and still is) photography. He likes taking pictures of his neighborhood's quotidian moments. His favorite type of picture is Polaroid. Back in his world he had a homemade darkroom and had a full wall of pictures. His family, friends, and pictures of the sea.

He used to do mini jobs around his town to get some money. Babysitting, helping with his dad's job, and his grandparents' ice cream stand during summer.

He was into ghost hunting and ghost stories. There were a few abandoned houses back in Yuusei's hometown that he used to explore.

The day he got hit by the carriage:

Yuusei this night had to go to his neighbor's house to keep the kids for the night.

A few minutes after going out and being on the road he hears a strange noise. This is a carriage ready to hit him.

When he wakes up, he is in a coffin with strange creatures and clothes that are not his.

So, let’s get to the tips!

Making red fox art! It can be drawing, painting, but also music (by creating a soundtrack on the theme of your natural habitat or a song about foxes), writing, photography (photos of your habitat and/or your theriotype, if possible), some beings create by drawing shapes in the earth/sand, and adding stones, I find that very beautiful! You don't need to be a talented artist to create! Find a technique you like, then go for it!

Watch some red fox art! You don't have to make art to enjoy the wonders of this concept! You can also make art requests to beings who create drawings, moodboards, stimboards, and even poems! You can also read books and watch series/movies with foxes!

Collect things! I collect feathers that I usually find on the ground, and it gives me a kind of "predatory pleasure" to have a piece of prey as a trophy, even though I have never hunted birds for real. You can also collect objects from nature, like small stones, sticks, etc. ⚠️Be careful if you want to buy taxidermy or vulture culture, because it can come from cruel farms where the animals are unfortunately exploited in a horrible way...please do a lot of research.

“Claim” a territory! If you are territorial, this activity is for you! Select a place in your garden, in a park, in a forest, (your territory can be in a public place, but in this case don't forget that this place does not officially belong to you) You can draw a map of this place, and maybe build a den outside.

Make a scent marker! It's a small potion where there are natural elements mixed with your scent, you can use it to mark your territory. I highly recommend it! Thorn from "therian territory" on youtube made a tutorial for this!

Learn fox body language! This is something very interesting, it will surely help you connect with your species. Maybe you'll find that you use the same body language?

Create a therian/alterhuman/nonhuman journal ! It's a notebook, or a small notepad, where you write things related to your alter/nonhuman identity. You can write about your therian journey, the animal experiences you have, for example. To make it, I reused my old half-empty scrapbook, cut out the used pages and then rebuilt a cover page. (I didn't have an empty notebook)

Create a place dedicated to your theriantropy! Place elements that remind you of nature, place gears if you have any, images or drawings of your theriotype, etc. on a shelf, a piece of furniture, or elsewhere. You can make it aesthetic if you want :3.

Eat a snack that looks like a red fox's diet! Foxes eat a wide variety of things! Keep in mind that your body can't eat certain things that foxes can, so be careful, okay?

Make yourself some less common gears! Gears are not necessarily tails, masks and collars, a gear is anything that an alterhuman/nonhuman can connect to his alter/nonhumanity, there are many other things like bracelets, phone cases, arm/legwarmers, etc. You will certainly find inspiration while browsing tumblr.

Try to do some vocal exercises! I don't know if you classify this as a common way to express one's theriantropy, but hey, why not?¯⁠\⁠_⁠(⁠ツ⁠)⁠_⁠/⁠¯

Connect with the community! Share your experiences, your feelings, your questions, your points of view in the online community (I advise you not to use Tiktok and YouTube shorts, unless your goal is to educate this part of the community). The Tumblr community is mostly welcoming and caring! [Do not share your personal information, stay safe].

hi i was wondering if you have any experience with photography, and also how to ask people if I can take a photo of something. I want to try and get my own personal reference images of like animal meats for painting and was thinking of asking the local butcher but I'm too nervous that I might be flagged by the police or smth 😭

If you have any tips or know anyone that can give me advice please lmk I would appreciate the help :) I understand if you don't know because you just post the artworks, thank you for reading tho

I really doubt anyone will find it weird enough to report it to the police, and even if they did, nothing would come of it.

I do actually have a lot of experience asking people both for permission to use their artwork and photos and asking strangers to help me do weird things (I did strange scavenger hunts for years). In my experience, if you ask politely and give a brief explanation, people will be more than willing to accommodate you. The only exceptions are things that they may not be allowed to do in their workplace because it goes against the rules. But everyone I've ever asked has said yes.

If you doubt that your explanation of "I just want to take reference photos" is enough, little white lies never hurt anyone. Tell them you're doing a photography project for a class and need specific photos. If you don't want to ask in person, just call them first. Worst they can do is say it's not allowed.

Lets talk about Wildlife Photography

I think social media makes it a hard thing to get into. Amazing locations are shown, awesome gear, and fit people that go on crazy long hikes.

I would like to share my perspective from someone that is far from well off. I feel it's easy to look at something online and wish for that life. I do it to often myself.

I started fully getting into wildlife photography myself around two years. I have both autoimmune and neurological issues so my hikes are often limited. When I do get out on hikes (usually only up to 2 miles at most) I can't do much else for a week. My gear is either pre owned or was financed over small payments. 95% of my photos were taken from my car.

Good places to look and when

(Some things may vary from state to state all of my opinions are formed from my experiences)

First off timing, dusk and dawn. Timing it out where the animals are out and you still have good lighting is rough. Preferably, you would like every animal to be out during golden hour, but that often doesn't happen.

Try finding Facebook groups for any refuge or park to get an idea of where and when the animals may be at your local parks.

Wildlife refuges are a great place to look for animals, but can be limited on access and be a bit more seasonal. You'll almost always see atleast one animal, but timing out when the animals you are looking for tend to hangout here may take a bit. For instance the elk at my local refuge winter here but are basically non-existent in the summer.

County roads are a great place to cruise around looking for wildlife. The farms tend to hold deer. Especially if your in an area that grows alot of corn 🌽. They can also have a ton of pronghorn if you live in the prairie.

Neighborhood parks. Especially with mule deer, I find more bucks wandering neighborhoods than the back country. These parks tend to be great for some of the more common birds as well.

National parks, State Parks, and National Forests are always wonderful places to find wildlife. Depending on location, they can be far and few. There's usually more info about animal locations for these. Whether that be social media groups or large groups of stopped cars when your in the park.

You'll probably have to drive a bit unless your in a prime location. My favorite place to see wildlife is 2 hours away.

Frequency

You will have amazing days that feel like pure magic with a bounty of awesome opportunities. Then you will have a week or weeks where you don't see anything. Maybe you do see an animal, but they are in a junkyard, too far away, or the lighting is just too bad and they aren't there the next morning. You will be frustrated, and no matter how much you think you know these animals and their habitats. They are still wild animals. Maybe it was a warmer winter or the hunting pressure that year was higher? Either way, there are times you just don't get lucky.

Gear

Start with something beginner friendly don't jump into a super high end DSLR. They are complicated and can be very confusing. I would recommend a D3300 or something from that series. You can find some on eBay with lenses for around $300. The 55-200mm kit lens it often comes with is a wonderful lens to start off with.

Practice

It's good to practice on domestic animals. Whether that be your pet cat or a horse alongside the road. I did horse photography for years before I got into wildlife photography. Going to horse shows can be a great way to practice motion shots and get a feel for your settings. Oftentimes, with wildlife the opportunity window for a shot is only seconds.

There's a ton of wonderful camera specific help if you look up your camera model with the word "guide" "help" or "tips" on YouTube.

Nikon Teaching Photography on Facebook is an abundant resource. There's many wonderful camera help groups on Facebook.

Random tips

Write down everything and try to put an answer to these questions in the summary. What animal did you see? what time was it? what day? how cold was it?

Some animals are creatures of habitat, and others tend to be more random. For me, my local elk tend to generally stick to more of a schedule, and the mule deer are pure chaos lol.

Bring basic survival items in your car if you plan on heading out into the back country. Extra food, water, battery packs, jumper cables, a shovel, first aid kit.

It's better to turn around than to be stuck miles back into the forest without service. The super muddy or snowy trail isn't worth it unless you plan on walking it.

For the first question, it’s a traditional watercolor piece! With this blog I’m always trying to emulate Sugimori’s gen 1 art style, so I try to use watercolors for the blog whenever I can! I’ve tried doing the digital watercolor made to look traditional before but it just. never really comes out the way I want it? Genuinely its just easier for me to bust out the ol’ watercolors n do that shit irl. I’ll get to those materials in a sec, actually!

For the second question, tbh all I did for the picture quality was take a top-down with my phone and crop it? I CAN tell you that it’s better to take a picture at x1 rather than try to zoom in, as the camera quality dips significantly if you try to zoom in or out.

Other tips I can give for picture quality is uhhh

Make sure your area is well-lit! Phone cameras will automatically try to compensate for dimly lit areas by increasing the ISO, which adds visual noise and dips the quality.

Hold the camera still. A moving camera creates blur. Cool for abstract photography, not so much for capturing traditional art lmao

Clean the lens. If you notice that your photos seem a bit fuzzy and… heaven-like? Might be a sign your lens is hella smudged. Run a cloth over that thang.

Try to take the photo from a top-down view! Taking the photo from an angle distorts the art. I know iPhone has a fuckinnnnn feature to fix angle distortions but I’m gonna be so fr w/ you I wouldn’t rely on it to solve this issue.

Be careful not to cast a shadow with you or your phone. If you are, don’t be afraid to take a step back! Remember that you can always crop it later! Crop, not zoom!

And as for the materials! uhhh hold on lemme grab the fucjin.

The watercolors are this Artistro watercolor paint set I got on Amazon. A fellow art student recommended these to me and tbh I love using them when I can. It comes with a watercolor brush that has a water compartment in the brush itself, which is really fuckin neat tbh.

The pens are your standard Micron pens that most traditional artists like to use. The ones I used in the art itself are raised slightly. Don’t mind the dirt or whatever on them, the heat melted the rubber band I used to bind them together and got stuck on ‘em :/

Something to take note of with watercolors is the kind of paper you’re using for it! Different papers will grab onto watercolors differently— you’ll want more thicker, more porous/rougher paper for watercolors. Smoother and thinner paper is harder for the paint to soak into— you risk the paint running or taking longer to dry, or oversoaking and tearing the paper.

If you don’t feel like going hunting for dedicated watercolor paper (aka me), then a safe bet is to use mixed media paper! There’s tons of sketchbooks in fuckin uhhh Walmart or whatever that will say “Mixed Media” on them. Those are always a safe shot since they’re fairly porous and thick.

i've just been starting to get into photography, specifically photographing plush! do you have any tips on getting a good photo? specifically how to get unique ideas for pictures with your plush! there's only so many times i can take pics at the local park XP i absolutely adore all your pics with henry and rainbowkitty, the composition and lighting are so stellar everytime!! thank you so much!!

awh thank you!!! that's so cool ur getting into plushie photography, it's def a super fun hobby! ^__^ i think the most important thing is just to take LOTS of pics even if you don't intend to post them. figuring out what angles capture your plushies expressions and silhouette best is the easiest way to get good composition i think!

as for coming up with ideas, i tend to do 3 things:

1. henry and rainbowkitty are always with me, so anything I want/have to do they're gunna do too. like if i want to bake, they're gunna help bake, if i'm gardening they help me garden etc. i like doing photoshoots so they feel involved.

2. i think about seasonal stuff that would be fun for them to do. like fall: playing in the leaves, pumpkin spice coffee, dressing up for halloween. spring: easter egg hunting, planting flowers. things like that c: pics for any holiday are always really fun too and easy to get inspiration for cause all the events, decorations or traditions!

3. i am always out looking for plushie sized things. i don't really go out of my way to find specifics, a lot of the time i just see an object that would be perfect for a photoshoot i never would have thought of, like the picture of henry and rainbowkitty mailing letters to santa i only thought of when i saw the little mailbox! and in general props add a lot to a picture or allow you to be more creative, and express the actions the plushies are doing better. like henry and rainbowkitty picking berries with a little basket, or gardening with a little watering can not only makes them feel more involved and happy but also gets the point of the pic across better i think. someone can look at it and immediately know what is happening. which can be important depending on the style/vibe ur going for.

He's made a career out of violence, partly because his vampire genetics dictate that he is a designed to be an apex predator. His love of the hunt and his skill as a hunter come naturally to him. Valen likes motorcycles, gin, snake plants, night life, cage fights, thunderstorms, bite marks, sex, and cigarettes. He's also very happily taken and has the ring (and marks) to prove it. Aside from the intimidating exterior, Valen is incredibly sweet and loving to his husband; having been the other half in two toxic relationships, he never wants to treat his loved ones the same way as he was treated.

☾‧⁺˖⋆ ┊I'm in the process of building my own Cyberpunk world that's modeled off of the TTRPG by Talsorian and Mike Pondsmith. It is a campaign of sorts where I'll be telling my character's stories. I've detached them from the video game itself. While I will still build this campaign within Night City and will retain some ambiguous lore from the game, I'm worldbuilding in a way that is far different from video game lore/canon as a whole. I'm calling it Nyx Aeterna and it blends the supernatural with cyberpunk. Night City looks only partly like it does in the videogame, because in my campaign, it looks more like Los Angeles with residential neighborhoods, more distinct districts, and more varied city design. There are also new gangs that I've created; Archangel, Chimera, Caliban, The Lucianos, and Ghost Run. In my campaign, werewolves, mages, and vampires coexist as Night City is a sort of safe haven, or neutral hub where they can live in relative safety. Conflicts between them still occur, but not to a grand scale.

The campus dark room wasn't the worst he'd ever seen, though Jasper was probably the last person in the world to really comment on the status of such places. He wasn't the most artsy of individuals (usually he left that to the more talented members of his little family) but there was only so much in one infinite lifetime that he could avoid learning. Photography had erroneously been thought to be perhaps the simplest of stepping stones and while Jasper wasn't bad by any means he certainly didn't have the eye of someone like Emmy.

He admired her ability to see through a lens, to find the beauty in the most simplistic of things. He looked more analytically where she could write poetry with photo frames. At least he was trying.

The harsh smell of chemicals had burned his nose in earnest the first few times, but by now he was too used to it. There he stood beside her, shoulder to shoulder, as they worked to develop their shots for the project ---due the following Monday. He'd been spending a lot of time with her (certainly something he attributed to partnering up with her in the class on more than one occasion) but the more scrutinizing eye could tell he was enjoying her company.

Sullen as he always was, the melancholy around him seemed to lift even in the slightest when presented with the aura of sunshine that Emmy exuded. It was hard to ignore, really. And at least in her light he wouldn't reveal what he was to the whole world.

He lifted his current picture with the developing tongs and slipped it into the second bin, submerging it in the stop bath before letting it sit for the required seconds.

Feeling the emotions of those around him at all times was a bit like cheating. He tried his best to put his little shield up, and really he was quite good at it by now, but there were times when even he subconsciously wanted to be tuned in. Emmy's immediate interest had piqued his own and days in class together bled to weeks, where hours at a time were spend learning and discussing. Now well into their second semester he could say he knew her decently well, that she was someone he thoroughly enjoyed spending time with ... and that the tension between them could be cut with a hot knife.

Seldom did Jasper let himself get close. It was a risk always, especially with his piqued hunger never really slaked, ever burning at the back of his throat and waiting for just the slightest moment of weakness. In times they had been close he'd blamed his cold hands on poor circulation (and even flexed his fingers in a way that suggested he wanted to coax warmth back through them (knowing full well it would never happen, but nobody could ever say he wasn't committed to his bit)). The laughter from their most recent joke had subsided minutes ago and yet his smirk lingered: the trademark sideward, sloppy grin that so often cut his features when he was amused (with others or himself) that the Cullens had gotten to know so well.

As did that undeniable tension. Emmy worked beside him, lifting and rinsing her own picture form the fixer and dipping it into the water to rinse excess chemicals off. He watched the way she lifted onto the tips of her toes to hang it by the clothes pin to their left, then rested back onto the whole of her feet. Even in the dim, harsh red light of the dark room she exuded brightness. It was confounding.

And then she brushed behind him to get to his right - to start the process over again - and he caught a stronger whiff of her: floral in a subtle way, with hints of citrus and honey and warm blood pulsing its way through her. He found himself swallowing, dropping black gaze down to the stop bath so he could shift over to the fixer and continue.

They needed to feed. A hunt had been scheduled for later in the night and Jasper silently cursed himself for being pinned in the dark room with someone who tempted him on the best of days, never mind now. She must have read the cue as more of that static between them because when she settled she spoke in that rasp he found himself pleasantly in tune with.

Dark eyes lifted from the fixer bath to her, where he expected to see her cheeky grin punctuating a jest. Instead he found an earnestness that didn't require use of his gift to tell she was painfully sincere. The little dam of resolve dropped, that mental block he so often employed to keep himself sane around the public and to keep from becoming overwhelmed, overloaded ... and he felt it too.

She wanted him to kiss her. She wanted a hell of a lot more than that, really, but she wanted him to kiss her.

He set the developing tongs against the plastic rim of the bath and turned to face her. The small dark room provided very little space for them, but when he pushed the slightest more into her space she moved with him, slotting her back into the wall and letting her eyes drop to his lips. He wet them - a very human response - as he rose the tips of his fingers to trace along the fine cut of her jaw. Feather-light while he watched her own tiers in turn ... really, studied the language of her body and how it worked so effortlessly with the emotional perfume she pushed out into the closet of the dark room.

Digits journeyed just below her ear, traced into the roots of thick brown waves before his thumb rubbed her cheek, he cupped the back of her neck and leaned closer.

Light ... light, impossibly gentle. He didn't trust himself, but fuck if he hadn't thought about kissing her before. A part of his mind remained sober, stuck on how soft he needed to be, aware of how impossibly fragile humans were in comparison to his kind, even now. It could be so easy to give in, to let himself push his mouth to hers with all of the roiling want and ache a lonely, tortured soul like his harnessed and lived with ... but it would spoil the moment, bruise her like a fine peach, hurt her. He didn't want that.

But he tasted at her, tongue tracing the line of her fine tiers before finding her own. He exhaled a breath he didn't need, didn't know he held, into her maw and felt the lowest and raspiest of sighs pass from his possession to hers - as if he trusted her with a deep secret. You can kiss me translated into you can taste me in the sweetest of meanings.

And between them, chest to chest, he felt her pulse quicken. The pounding of her heart against fragile sternum, beating a rhythm into his body that made him suck a breath (a mistake). God, the scent of her. Fine, coppery blood and flowers, honey and sunshine and warmth he could consume her. He could sink his teeth into that beautiful, long neck of hers and have a taste, just one. Just one, little taste was all he needed to fill him up, God he was so empty. He was so very fucking---

He pulled away. Pulled away and stepped back, dropped his gaze and heaved another unneeded (but very much needed) breath. The back of his thighs bumped the developing table and he heard the faint (to her) sloshing of liquid from the sudden jolt behind him. Fingers raised to push back strands of wavy gold and Jasper cleared his throat in the beginnings of an apology.

No, you cannot have nice things. You cannot kiss her. You will destroy something beautiful, because that is what you do.

"Sorry," voice soft from slight shame, from the undertones of want that he'd allowed to take him down their current, "I didn't mean to get carried away. We should, uh ..."

And he gestured to the table, lifted a hand to thumb at it too, as if it wasn't the primary reason for being where they were in the first place.

Ya know we’ve heard dream does archery right? What would he think if MC asked him to teach them? Or maybe perhaps all the hotel boys (mint, mango included) if Mc asked them to teach them something that’s their passion? Sorry just feel like these boys do be needing more love or asks

Axe - You ask him to teach you how to hunt. He’s pretty firm with his no. He likes hunting alone and he doesn’t want to risk an episode and hurt you. Even if you are persistent he will continue to turn you down but does promise to spend some time with you when he gets back. 

Crooks -You ask him to show you how he prepares the game Axe brings back. He is happy to do so and even a bit excited but as he does show you some questions you might ask makes him extremely anxious. But he’s a very good teacher and you end up having a good time. 

Error - You ask him to teach you how to sow. It was an accident you discovered this little hobby of his and he is not really happy about it. He says no but if you persistently ask he will eventually cave. He’s not very patient about teaching you though and tends to get annoyed easily. 

Ink - The two of you just talk about multiverses. Ink knows everything and is always excited to talk about different places. He can also draw but he hasn’t in a long time and doesn’t really want to now, even if it’s you who's asking. 

Nightmare - You ask him to help you with gardening and he turns a bright blue color. He tries not to let on how much he enjoys gardening so he’s a bit taken aback that you would ask him for help but he’s also thrilled you did. He excitedly shows you, it’s the most animated you’ve ever seen him. 

Dream - You ask him to teach you archery and he is happy to. It’s a great chance to get to spend some time with you. He’s a very good teacher too, patient, nice and oddly flirty. You’re doing something he’s confident in and it’s shining through as he teaches you. 

Day - You ask for his help with some photography. He’s a bit hesitant to help you and politely turns you down. He really can’t be alone with you without it hurting. Although he can’t stop himself. He ends up giving you helpful tips every now and then when he sees you taking a photo but tries not to be alone with you for too long. 

Killer -You need some advice for some pranks and Killer is happy to help. Or he thought he was, the more the two of you spend planning and prepping the more he feels himself stabilize and he doesn’t want that so he ends up turning some pranks back on you just to make sure he stays at a slightly crazy level. 

Mint - Doesn’t really have any hobbies or interests. He supposed you could stand guard with him but that could get very boring very quickly since he doesn’t talk and not a whole lot ever really happens. 

Mango - Has many interests and passions. He’ll jump from one to the next but if you ask about his current hyperfixation he gets very excited and starts to info dump on you about it but he happily shows you with great enthusiasm.
