still cannot believe that team 8, the main tracking team shown throughout the series, was not once utilized when looking for sasuke. it's such a letdown, especially when you consider that all three members are from clans (one being the heiress to the most prestigious clan in konoha) and there could've been a plot point about how the other clans felt about the uchiha massacre.

Okay, I'm going to say something because I've been seeing the fandom crapping on Hinata for being a housewife since the end of Naruto and it just doesn't sit well at all with me, so before saying anything just to clarify, Hinata isn't even among my top ten favorite characters so I'm absolutely neutral here but I keep seeing memes like this

And jokes being made about her and that "eVeRYoNe iN hEr gENeRaTioN iS dOiNg imPoRtAnT jOBs wHiLe sHe's mObBiNg aNd cLeAniNg" and stuff and like, I don't understand what's wrong with being a housewife?!!! What's wrong with choosing the life that you actually want? If someone feels like their kids and house is their priority and that they want to dedicate their life to it, then good for them! Good for them for knowing what they want and going for it, there's absolutely nothing wrong with that!. Hinata was told since she was born that she's the Hyuga clan's heiress who's expected to train and be a strong ninja so she can lead her clan after her father, just because she happened to be born as his eldest child and she had to live through the constant disappointment of her father her entire life and yet when she grew up, she went against all of that and actually chose what she wants for her life not what was expected of her, despite the pressure of her clan and father and traditions, at the end she chose to do what she wants for her life not what they wanted her to be, and that actually imho makes incredibly strong because strength is not just about muscles or super alien ninja powers, it takes a lot of courage and strength to go against your society/clan/family and do what you know is right for you not what they think you were born to be. And you know what? Domestic work is still important hard work and having a job doesn't make anyone more superior than a full-time Stay-at-home parent who doesn't always have the luxury of having weekends, days off and annual leaves or sick leaves, who can't just take a break and abandon their responsibilities no matter how tired or sick they are.

sorry if youve already talked about this, but i wanted to get your thoughts on sasuke in these panels..maybe im looking too much into it and its not that deep, but i was rereading gaiden recently and i just feel like theres something here im missing. sakura even looks a little confused/worried in the bg. the way he talks is kinda cryptic, especially with how they put quotation marks around "cooperation". like?? am i crazy or is there something going on here. its like hes vaguely referring to something that only he and naruto know about. not to mention how sullen he seems...what do you think?

No you're not imagining it, Sasuke is clearly a bit sad and snidey here. Naruto looks taken aback by his words too, sweating nervously. Naruto didn't hesitate wanting to go with Sasuke and leaving his own family in the process, but Sasuke declined his offer.

It seems Kishi left it up in the air what's going on here, but clearly it's to show not everything is okay between these characters. Sakura is like a third wheel here, also very nervous.

Sasuke knows Naruto loves him, and Naruto knows Sasuke loves him. But Sasuke also knows Naruto felt hesitant and conflicted, with all the expectations and burdens on his shoulders. They both had even bigger responsibilities now after the war.

And while it's obvious Kishi wrote them to be in love, he can't say it too obviously, so he leaves these clues for us to patch together, to make some sense of why the hell are they married to Hinata/Sakura. He will leave implications that Sasuke never kissed Sakura, that Naruto doesn't want to go home even if Shikamaru could take over his mundane duties like counting on headbands. He will write some bimbo fangirls fawn over Naruto and Hinata walking in the park, talking about how they make a perfect couple because Naruto is the war hero/Hokage candidate and Hinata is the heiress of the Hyuga clan. Very shallow reasons, and we know how Kishi isn't too fond of fangirls. But those reasons make sense, considering NH marriage is appearance only, without the kind of deep love Naruto feels for Sasuke. Naruto settled for her, because that's what everyone expects from him.

And Sasuke isn't happy. But he loves Naruto, so he will stand by his side regardless. And in Boruto manga, there was the scene where Sasuke gave his headband to Boruto, and Boruto asked if it's okay, isn't this the symbol of the bond between you and my dad (which shows Kishi definitely didn't forgot, which some people might otherwise claim)? If you remember, at the end of chapter 699 Sasuke said he will keep holding onto it until him and Naruto finally settle things between the two of them. The chapter where Sasuke gave Boruto the headband and talked with him also had Sarada and Mitsuki at the same time talk about one's true, inner romantic feelings and being honest about them. Mitsuki suggested Sarada likes Boruto like that, and Sarada suggested the same about Mitsuki liking Boruto as well. Like? And Sarada also reminds us once again that Sasuke spends more time with Boruto than with her. Lol.

So yeah, that moment is just yet another clue to show Naruto and Sasuke aren't happy with their lives, but they are doing their best for the sake of the future. But since Sasuke gave away the headband, it feels like something is gonna happen...

Hinata Hyuga used to be an esteemed heiress but that title was stripped from her when she was young now at the prime age of 22 she was an academy teacher. The Kindest of them all some would say. Though her reputation,pride and family life had struck sore she found many beautiful things later in life one of them was caring for children making them feel happy and needed in a way she had needed when she was younger, in the way her sensei Kurenai and team mates Kiba,Shino and even Akamaru did when she had been at her lowest point.

There was nothing particularly exciting in her life after she became a simple academy teacher sure . . . she still had a teeny crush on a certain blonde from the academy and admired his goofy smile and enthusiastic attitude every now and then when he came to the academy to meet up with Iruka sensei, but even now she could only observe from afar.

"Hyuga sensei!" her class shouted waking Hinata from her thoughts.

"Oh sorry I spaced out again didn't I?" she said smiling apologetically as a few student giggled

"Yeah you did," Mai Taisu, a popular kid in the class snickered. Hinata was aware of Taisu's rude behavior but she made sure that no other students got hurt in any way because of it. Right now the child was just saying empty words so she'd allow the disrespect besides she was an adult that meant she was the responsible one.

"I think it's kinda cute"

The whole class turned around to see a man with a cat mask and black and gray attire. He was a regular visitor yet no one knew his name. Well No one except the teacher herself.

"Neko san!" Many of the students in the class cheered as the man in the Anbu mask walked into the classroom from his spot in the corner.

"Now,now don't let me distract you please, listen to Hyuga-sensei"

Hinata could already imagine the devilish smirk that hid behind his mask

‘The destruction is already done and he has the gall to say pay attention’ she thought irritably before turning back to her class plastering a smile.

"Kids I'm afraid it's recess time so if you can go outside in a single file lin--"

The class erupted with shouting and everyone scrambling to get out in a matter of minutes. It was quite the commotion but also quite common for the academy teachers.

I think they're more excited about recess than becoming shinobi Hinata thought as she collected the papers left on the students' desks

She felt the presence of the Anbu captain beside her seeing him at one of the desks through the corner of her eye.

"Let me help you with that" he collected the papers in lightning fast speed, handing them to her a few seconds after saying the phrase.

His hand was outstretched to return the papers to her yet she was careful not to actually touch his hand.

"Thank you Anbu san." she said quietly walking back to her desk

"You know you can call me Sasuke" he called out from behind her

"You are in uniform, it would be disrespectful to the Anbu if I referred to you so informally" she replied, reaching for a chocolate big she had stashed in her desk so the students wouldn't go rabid.

"Is that chocolates" Sasuke asked peering over her shoulder

"won't you give me a few?" he asked his left hand to directly horizontal to hers on the desk but with enough distance so he wasn't *actually* touching her.

"This... is not for you" she replied, her tone a bit more harsh from the close proximity slightly adjusting herself so they were further apart "And you HATE sweets" she said almost accusingly

"Hmm. Then I suppose that you will show me some love TONIGHT... Right? Hyuuga-sensei?"

"What did you say?"

"I said you'll make me some chocolates later today right? We do live next to each other" he said overwriting his previous words even though she *clearly* heard him.

"I suppose . . ." she said gruffly

The Anbu captain stuck around hidden in the shadows for the entirety of her lesson which annoyed her but she didn't say anything about it, his presence only conscious in the back of her mind.

"Well that's the end of the lesson if you have any questions--"

"Why don't you ever teach us any fun stuff Hinata Sensei" Taisu asked, her feet on her desk a sign of blatant disrespect but Hinata ignored it.

"yeah . ." a few other kids agreed. Hinata knew the lessons weren't always fun but they were a crucial part of history and to becoming a shinobi

"Well I apologize you feel that way but this information is crucial" Hinata argued

"You just don't know how to teacher correctly" Taisu scoffed "what else can be expected from a--" Taisu stopped mid sentence with Hinata looking at her sternly.

"that is enough Taisu your recess time will be cut in half tomorrow if you can't handle a few boring lessons you will not be able to handle being a shinobi" Hinata spoke sternly

"Class dismissed"

The children said hurried good byes and see you tomorrows to their teacher seemingly scared by her tone of voice

Taisu mumbled under her breath from the punishment but didn't argue as she left

Hinata then turned around

"Stop scaring my students" Hinata scolded the Anbu captain who looked at her innocently taking off his mask.

"What? I'm not even doing anything"

Hinata sighed in frustration "Sasuke san as much as I appreciate you defending me I can fight my own battles especially against my own students" she replied she knew his presence had frightened her students he tended to do that when they showed a disrespectful attitude towards her.

She then walked to the chalkboard briskly to erase the lesson plan

"Where are you going?" He smirks not at all fazed by her scolding from earlier, "I'm not done with you yet...Hyuuga-sensei." he teased walking behind her before she grabbed his hand

"I'll talk to you after class" Hinata responded guiding him to the door forcefully to get him to leave

"what--- no fair," he whined but Hinata had already pushed him out the door, slumping against the door's hard surface.

HINATA HYUUGA (NARUTO)

1.) When Hinata was introduced she goals, weaknesses, interesting interactions and relationships with characters other than naruto and a personality of her own. Post timeskip in shippuden, however, she was reduced down to simply 'naruto's future love interest' and little else. The entire Hyuuga plotline was dropped and she no longer had any relevance or personality outside of naruto. Part 1 hinata was shy and insecure on the surface but underneath that she was determined & hardworking, even to her own detriment. Her struggles were compelling. Her interactions with neji and her family are something you look forward to seeing more of. In shippuden she's like a flat carboard cutout of hinata. Her shyness exaggerated, her relationship with her family suddenly perfectly fine and boring. In part 1 naruto inspires her to keep trying but he isn't the reason she's working so hard, in shippuden he's pretty much all she thinks about. Her change in character design really highlights these changes - the perfect little wife for cishet men to fantasise about.

2.) Her entire personality and arc is boiled down to “shy uwu waifu in love with Naruto” and basically any development she gets, which is barely at all because Kishimoto hates women, is as attributed to NARUTO and Naruto only. Even her reaction to her beloved COUSIN’S DEATH makes her be like “omg I love Naruto” and serves to further NaruHina, which is absolutely insane she would Not react like that. Naruto only starts being romantically interested in her at the beginning of like, The Last movie, which is after 500ish episodes of her being treated as the sidelined love interest who is devoted to a guy who only cares about her when she’s a damsel in distress on a fight.

There are so many parts of her character that are/could be interesting, like her part in the Hyuga Clan due to being born as a superior and her dynamic with her cousin Neji as a result, (which could have had SO many great moments of reconciliation and standing up for each other grrr grrr) an exploration of the impact of her bullying & being looked down upon (even when she’s supposed to be a superior member, which adds to the shame) LIKE MANY OF THE CAST, seriously the people Naruto trauma dumps to are mostly consisted of people unfairly treated like that and it could have been used to further NaruHina WHILE showing her struggles

She is an incredibly capable fighter but the moment Naruto is there, she instantly becomes defenseless and needs to be saved by her crush, mostly as a “wow look at him isn’t he so brave and kind to do this for her?!”

There’s an episode where she is literally used as a defenseless punching bag for Pein by trying to sacrifice herself for Naruto and telling him she loves him, JUST so he can be more angry and have more motivation to beat Pein’s ass (aside of the yknow. Killing his loved ones thing) AND her confession is ignored by Naruto for the rest of the series. Just like any moment she shows her crush for him is met with obliviousness, which would be fine if they weren’t the main couple and didn’t go on for THE ENTIRE SERIES!!!!

In Boruto, the shitty sequel, Naruto is basically her deadbeat husband in her bland lavander marriage and Boruto is rightfully mad about Naruto’s distance from the family and even says he left her basically a single mom and barely pays time to the family, and Hinata’s role in the show as the housewife is being like “no you see Boruto you have to understand your father’s pov as the Hokage” and the narrative treats NaruHina’s marriage as a Good, Healthy Thing as if the characters are not miserable in this marriage.

3.) Man I don't even like her that much but she deserved SO much better. She was introduced as the heiress of a really powerful and renowed clan with complex dynamics, yet the author somehow decided to do almost NOTHING with the potential she had, and gave her very little personality besides being shy and fawning over the protagonist. She gets slightly more active in Shippuden (part 2), but her character still pretty much revolves around her love for Naruto, which sucks because again, she has so much potential. It's no secret that women in Naruto are badly written, and Hinata certainly is no exception. The male characters get dozens of episodes/chapters about their motivations, their backstories, what pushes them to keep going, and Hinata gets almost nothing besides her lifelong crush on Naruto that we are reminded of literally every time she's on screen.

NIKI NIHACHU (DREAM SMP) (CW: Bullying)

1.) Ohhhh my FUCKING GOD okay. So first off, MCYT (Minecraft Youtube) is not synonymous with the Dream SMP. The Dream SMP is MCYT, but not all MCYT is Dream SMP. I just want to make that clear before I start. (Also, the DSMP characters are referred to with a c! in front of their name, and the person playing that character is referred to with a cc! in front of their name.)

Anyway. So Niki, right. The Dream SMP had a LOT of ccs, and I can’t remember all of them off the top of my head but I think there were like…four women? Out of…god, at least fifteen people, maybe twenty? Which would have been fine, I’ve seen worse ratios. But the thing is, a lot of the male ccs’ fans were uhhh…not great about treating cc!Niki like a person. We’re gonna move on to her character in a bit, but cc!Niki got bullied, harassed, and criticized no matter what she or her character did.

c!Niki is either a mean girlboss or gentle and nice. When I saw people talking about c!Niki while the DSMP was active, their views of her were very one dimensional. Maybe part of this was because cc!Niki didn’t get a chance to develop her character as much as someone like cc!Tubbo did. One of the DSMP’s fatal flaws was a lack of communication and organization, and…yeah. It was very difficult for white male ccs to organize people for lore, but for cc!Niki it was…also bad. The misogyny that cc!Niki experienced from fans is inseparable from the misogyny that c!Niki also received. It’s a really shitty package deal.

OH AND ALSO. You know how the DSMP ended by getting like, wiped from existence or some shit I don’t remember. And Dream did this without letting the majority of the ccs resolve their character’s stories/arcs? Will it surprise you to learn that afaik cc!Niki wasn’t informed about this at first? Yeah. Overall she was just treated horribly by everyone and so was her character.

2.) Literally only like three people ever did storylines with her, two of whom immediately dropped it as soon as something else came up. She didn't even get to officially participate in the revolution despite repeatedly offering aid, and eventually ended up just. Building her own underground city. To have something to do. The only people to actually include her in storylines consistently ever were the anarchists, toward the end of the server.

3.) ok, so, the thing is, this isn’t just about the DSMP. historically, in mcyt spaces, women content creators have been harassed and treated terribly by fans (and talked over/ignored by other ccs and the fandom) for, essentially, daring to be women, and niki has been subject to that. cc!niki (the real life person, for those who don’t know mcyt player/character differentiations) was/is really good friends with cc!wilbur soot (i haven’t been keeping up with this corner of streaming recently but assume this is the case). however, despite being close irl friends and working really well with one another, niki had to deal with endless bullshit from people who shipped her and wilbur (and people who didn’t!!), so much so that they stopped streaming together for a while. this is just some background so you understand the baseline we’re working with here. (this is going to be more of a meta analysis on how cc!niki was treated by other ccs, as that’s my specialty and also in a rp space it affects how her character was played) (fan treatment of her also factors in a lot here since fiction is highly affected by realities like this in mcrp) niki’s character in the dream smp, and the lore she had (she went from a kind baker to one of the last holdouts against a tyrannical government, to a broken girl resorting to revenge for stability, to someone who was finally able to find healing and support in a safe space and worked to do the same for others) was largely ignored or disregarded by both fans and the other content creators on the server. hell, when her best friend died nobody even bothered to tell c!niki! she had to find out from his own goddamn ghost! (can you tell i’m mad about this?) she put up with so much shit on that server, in-character and out, and never even got to have a fucking break about it. justice for c!niki!

Out of the Konoha girls, she had the most promise only for it all to be squandered and replaced with “N-Naruto-kun” You go girl for wanting your man, but could she have gotten something else do to???

Design wise, I think Hinata might be my favourite. Kishimoto truly captured what a shy girl would realistically wear, while being cute as heck. I love it. My only real change was putting her hair up in a bun. Just to keep it out of the way in combat. Practically first, babes And Hinata was just made for oversized hoodies and jackets. No in fact they were made for Hinata. A true icon.

Finally got around to do a little character inspiration I've seen time to time for MTaS!Nerida; in order (from left-down to right-down):

Celica (Fire Emblem Echoes)

Like Celica, Nerida is kind and gentle but at the same time held their emotions back for various reasons; they both even had lost their mother (Celica) and father (Nerida) at a young age with little or no memories of them. Also I headcanoned Nerida's voice claim to be Celica's VA, Erica Lindbeck, but shhh

Yuna (Final Fantasy X)

Loyal, polite, and see the good in people, but while Nerida isn't devote to the teaching of Church of Light, like how Yuna is to Yevon, she took some of its teachings to heart and like Yuna Nerida's faith in the Church of Light would be shaken when certain events in the story happen. And at the end Nerida would find her spark once again similar to Yuna's new lease on life in X-2.

Annie / Protagonist (Story of Seasons)

Both Nerida and Annie moved to a new town thanks to the flyer that are in need of builders and farmers respectively.

Lydia Carlton (Hakushaku to Yousei / Earl and Fairy)

Probably the one with the most inspiration; Both would not hesitate to help those in need, independent, and suffer from self-esteem issues. Nerida and Lydia both have experienced heart-breaking scenarios where it made them afraid to fall in love, the former experienced rejection from her long-time crush and the latter was given a love letter by someone that did it on a dare.

And of course, the two would end up getting engaged / wedded to their male love interest with blond hair and different occupations.

Sakura (Tsubasa Chronicles)

Sakura and Nerida's smile has been compared to the sun and light respectively, although they also let their emotions bet the best of them despite their optimistic front. Nerida, like Sakura, would also garner strong attachments to the people of Sandrock- especially Ernest.

Hinata Hyuga (Naruto series)

Who doesn't like an underdog story? While Nerida isn't shy like Hinata, her injury stopped her from becoming a civil corps member thus having no faith in herself (like how Hinata's lack on confrontation stopped her from becoming an heiress). When both Nerida and Hinata joined Sandrock's Civil Corps and Team 8 respectively their whole view shifts and began to change for the better- gaining that fighting spark that was extinguished.

Brief Description:

Aiko has long, dark brown hair and wears it in a twin tail style. She has blue eyes.

She is the youngest child of Chihiro Osaka and Neji Hyuga, as well as their only daughter. Inheriting the Osaka Clan's shapeshifting abilities, she has been recognized as Chihiro's heiress, and a future head of the Osaka Clan. Can you imagine Hinata not wanting kids /having them pretty late in the game? I like to think it because its not the sort of thing you'd expect from a character like her, but not in like an ooc way; but in a "wow this doesn't follow the archetype" way

i feel like it makes sense for hinata to have kids later on. maybe not very late in life, but probably around 25 - 30. she has a lot of responsibilities as both a ninja as well as any other positions she might be in (hyuga heiress, wife of hokage, etc), so i can't really see her just dropping everything to have kids right after getting married.

plus, she probably has a lot of doubts and fear about starting a family. maybe she's scared of them one day getting sealed, or if she'll die like her mother, or if she'll as bad of a parent as her father was. i definitely think she wants kids, especially depending on who her partner is, but not at such a young age.

as a mother, i also headcanon her to be very different from what people might expect her to be like. not to make this into a sasuhina post, but when i imagine her and sasuke as parents, sasuke is more of a stay at home dad who handles the uchiha clan business and only takes on s-rank missions that only he or the rest of team 7 could handle, whereas hinata is still an active ninja and maybe even a righthand man of naruto. he takes care of the kids most of the day, but they're still equal partners and are both present in their children's lives.

since she grew up always being so suffocated by rules and whatnot whereas sasuke only relied on himself, she's very lenient and let's them explore things for themselves whereas sasuke is very overprotective and freaks out if they're not in his line of site. he also probably does a lot of the cooking, but maybe she handles taking care of the garden and decorating some of the compound to be more lively.

I don’t know if this is an unpopular opinion, but I prefer the characterization of Hanabi in her few manga moments in part 1 over her character from the Last onward. It just makes more sense to me that the young, prodigious heiress to the elite Hyuga clan with what must be a mountains worth of responsibility and expectation on her shoulders would have a more serious and focused personality.

A new idea for Hinata Hyuga

Since literally everybody agrees that Hinata was completely ruined in shippuden, I've decided to make a new base character for her.

After the Chunin exams, Hinata couldn't go a day without thinking about what her dear cousin had exposed to Konoha. She never liked that seal, but she also realizes just how much she's neglected what Neji and the others felt about their position, and that she's actually never took action to stop it.

When Hinata looks around in her first few days back home from the hospital, she can't help but notice just how miserable everyone looks. Her father looked burdened and sorrowful, her imouto seemed anxious and stressed under that flawless facade, her caretaker looked regretful and fearful everytime he looked at her, and every branch member looked pained and full of restrained hatred or fear.

When Hinata is out training, she can't help but think about why she wanted to grow strong. 'To gain approval from father' a voice whispered in her head. But she already grew past that with her team. They made her feel wanted and accepted her no matter what. 'To get Naruto to notice me' a part of her thought, and for a while, she believed it. But was it really what she wanted? Was she willing to wait and try to grow stronger for another boy's approval, regardless of how much she admired him?

When she looks at Neji, Hinata notices how he never talks or even looks her in the eye anymore. She notices how she can't help but flinch everytime he does look at her, and immediately regrets it when an expression of pain crosses his face before he flees the area. She wants to apologize for never considering how he felt. She wants to apologize for never tying to help while she was sinking in her own self-pity. She wants to apologize for her ignorance.

When she looks at Hanabi, Hinata notices to looks of longing she sends to other kids when she wanders the village. She notices how Hanabi's fingers tense up the slightest bit when she's called for training or a meeting, and how she's most relaxed when she's around her caretaker, Natsu Hyuga. Hinata notices how Hanabi looks at their father with the same sense of desperate approval that Hinata used to look at their father with. She wants to apologize for not trying hard enough to be an older sister. She wants to apologize for burdening her with the stress of being an heiress. She wants to apologize for never helping her when she neeeded it most.

When she looks at her father, Hinata was taken back about how miserable he looked. Everytime he looked her, he sees something that makes him turn away almost immediately. Everytime he looked at Neji, his eyes are full of regret. Everytime he looked at Hanabi, he lets out a weak sigh as if he knows he made a big mistake. Hinata hears him talking to her mother, Hitomi Hyuga, or her uncle, Hizashi Hyuga, everytime he locks himself in his room or his office. She wants to apologize for not noticing sooner. She wants to apologize for causing him to make a painful decision because of her weaknesses. She wants to aplogize for not thinking about his grief before.

When she tells all of this to her loving sensei, Kurenai smiles with a mixture of pride and sadness. She asked her what she wants to do to pursue these goals, and Hinata responds with she wants to change. Change for her suffering cousin, change for her burdened sister, change for her grief filled father.

Kurenai asks how she's going to change. Hinata replies with getting stronger and smarter.

Kurenai asks how she's going to keep these changes, and that makes Hinata pause.

Even if she managed to change for them to make them happier, what would it matter if they were living the same miserable life as before? Hinata thinks about what all of their struggles had in common, and she narrowed it down to the entire clan. Neji was suffering from his fate as a branch house, Hanabi was suffering from having to lead the clan and her father was suffering from dealing with the clan.

When Kurenai asks again, Hinata replies:

"I'm going to change the whole clan"

Kurenai looks briefly surprised for smirking fondly at her, telling her she has much work to do and her team will be with her all the way. Hinata thinks she doesn't deserve someone like Kurenai.

When she tells her team her goals and how she wishes to achieve them, they both tell her that they support her and will stand by her decision, but that she also should grow stronger for herself, not just for everyone else. Hinata is caught off guard, but she promises to at least try.

Happy Valentine's Day

She probably hadn't even flirted with anyone in her life. Being the heiress of the Hyuga made her untouchable, men knew better than to approach her. For a second he empathized with her, it was a difficult position to be, and he certainly didn't envy her.  Everybody knew that she liked Naruto, but she was also very shy so, he didn't know if she had ever acted upon it. Maybe? Maybe not? However, the case, one thing could be said without doubt, she was always courageous. And courage was what she would need as the heir of a clan, and in one as big and traditional as theirs, she would face little choice in her love life. She would probably be engaged to someone from within the main branch, with their current clan laws.

Sigh.

‘Shikamaru is right, this is problematic’. He really hoped that she would like it. He still remembered the high-pitched screech Ino had done the moment he said he needed her services for a floral arrangement. He knew this were uncharted waters, it was considered an impertinence, scandalous and inappropriate. So things needed to be done subtly. They couldn’t be seen together, and outside of practice session they didn’t spend much time together since he had been promoted to jounin. But it was a special day, and he wanted to do it for her. 

The cold winds of February were not receding, and the low temperatures of the year were still present. He could see the cold clouds forming around him every time he breathed out. The cold wind felt even colder in the outskirts of the village, around the training grounds; where he was waiting for her. 

“Ready to go home?” 

“I just need to collect my kunais and I’ll be ready”

“Common, it’s freezing, Shino can’t even talk anymore, all his critters have started shutting down, and its starting to affect him”

“Why don’t you go with him, plus I know my house is in an opposite direction, so Shino-kun could get worse really quickly. Take care of him” She winked towards Kiba.

“Will you be all right?”

“Yeah, don’t worry. Good night guys”

“Go-oo-ood nnn-niiiight Hi-na-tah” - Shino stuttered and wheezed his way through the sentence.

She smiled towards them before turning back to the log she had been using for target practice. She picked the first and the second blade, but the moment her finger touch the Hyuga kunai she felt her the electricity run through her chakra system. The signal of another chakra system, alerting her of her surroundings. She took the weapon firmly in her hand, she recognized the signature of course. 

He felt her come closer. He knew the moment she had recognized it was him, she was taking her time, but he could not blame her, the last few years had been tumultuous and difficult. They spent more time together training but it couldn’t be considered very significant on a personal level.

“Neji-onisama?”

“Konbawa Hinata-sama”

“Has something happened?” Of course, she would have a reaction like this. They usually didn’t meet here or at this time of the day.

“I… I…” She came closer now, examining the brightness of his eyes and surprised to see a color change around his cheeks. He closed his mouth shut and inhaled deeply . Slowly pulling his arm from behind he pulled the bouquet. 

The sunflower had been combined with white flowers and a little bit of greenery to make it appear more abundant and luscious. It was nice that Hinata happened to like sunflowers as much as she did since it also was the official clan flower. He hoped that no one would bat an eye if they saw them in her room. But within the confines of the clan, it was never something to be sure about.

Her eyes got bigger and bigger with surprise, of course she loved them, he didn’t need to ask, a big open smiled now on her face, radiant happiness shinning through her glossy eyes. 

“What’s this?”

“Flowers?” now he heard her laugh as a response.

“I know they are flowers, but why?” his face turned three shades darker then, he felt the burning nervousness at the pit of his stomach. She looked questioning to him again.

“It’-s … Valentine’s Day”

He felt her arms wrapping around his neck, bringing him down. He felt the sound of a deep ragged breath close to his ear.

“I’ve never been given flowers for Valentine’s, thank you”
