Have you taken any pottery classes or were you entirely self taught? I REALLY want to get into it but classes are quite expensive
I took some sculpting in undergrad, but it was in the context of casting and mold-making, not ceramics. So I'm fairly comfortable with clay as a medium but not so much with clay as an end product--not being able to do armatures and having to think about firing is weird. (If I had the opportunity to do bronze casting again, though, I would, no hesitation.) That puts me in the minority of my current pottery peers, who are largely self-taught or only learned in our studio.
I do pottery now at a co-op studio space, and technically that means that I'm taking classes there--but the classes are more like guided lab time? There's not really assignments or anything, and there's only a couple other people who sculpt, none of whom are in my class. Mostly the class just means that the person in charge demonstrates a technique or two once a week and then lets us do our thing.
Personally I think that shared studio space is the absolute best way to go. You spend less in startup costs (kilns are EXPENSIVE, running kilns is expensive, glaze is expensive) and it plugs you directly in to a group of fellow artists who can help and support you at whatever skill level you're at. Yes, classes are expensive--my class is $250 per season. But for me that includes lab space, 50 lbs of clay per season, almost all of the glaze I use, kiln time, and other people doing all the maintenance and kiln loading/unloading etc. Very much money well spent.
Artist-run shared spaces are often not turning a profit on anything with studio fees, just covering operations costs, so while it's pricey, it generally is just...what it costs to do that hobby. And it is sooooo much easier to be motivated when you're going to what is, basically, Grown-Up Art Club.
Tumblr media
But if costs are prohibitive for you to do pottery via classes, and you want to learn to sculpt, then get some polymer clay and see what you can do. It's a different game than actual clay, but form is form, and the medium is secondary to figuring out how to translate an idea into reality.
Polymer clay is relatively affordable and doesn't require nearly the infrastructure of ceramics. If you can't spend the money on classes or a shared studio, then polymer clay is a great way to develop technique and an eye so that when you're in a position to spend the money, you already have the skills to make it worth what you're spending.

Since I very sincerely doubt Uther managed to kill ALL the Dragonlords (they're knights, not the KGB, and it was a lot easier to disappear back then) imagine them returning to Albion from Rome or whatever to find Cousin Balinor's only son is ruling Camelot and the Druids, is best friends with an immortal knight and one dude that's been raised from the fucking dead, is bonded to THEE oldest dragon they've ever heard of (and who is also nuttier than squirrel stew) and a semi-feral hatchling that barely listens to four (4) people max and hisses/bites/claws at the rest, and oh yeah, is married to a fucking Pendragon.
Tumblr media
Family dinners must be a hoot and a half.
oh to be a fly on the wall when they finally make an audience in Camelot. oh to see Merlin's face morph from apprehension to wonder to exhaustion to horror because they're telling Arthur everything they know.
#obviously these guys arrive post battle of camlann and post magic ban being lifted#they heard about the new king of camelot being the once and future king wanted to see that for themselves (they have so many questions)#they create a dragonlord support group for merlin#honestly my question is when exactly did the dragonlord population start dimishing#sure okay we can say during the Purge and Uther isn't one for mercy so he would totally go on a warpath...but they're dragonlords and yet#they lost to a mad king who only had knights on his side.#theory: dragonlord population was dwindling long before the Purge#other kingdoms in Abion were growing suspicious and wary of dragolords and their ability to “control” dragons#many kings felt threatened by it and sought to exterminate them#paranoia for magic prob been around long before the Purge (twas only the catalyst for a century long tension bt royals and sorcerers)#think WW1 kind of tension between kings and dragonlords: kingdoms were beginning to stabilize/unify; territories were drawn out#oh bro i am now actually very interested in exploring the events leading up to the Purge#my theory: Ambrosious the king said to “unite” Albion that first time had issues with gaining fealty from dragonlords#dragonlords saw themselves as neutral ambassadors but Ambrosious saw them as threats; they reached some treaty but the animosity stayed#every line of succession you have a king seeking to get dragonlords under their rule and dragonlords refusing#then maybe a king or so before Uther less heirs for dragonlords occur; less eggs hatch or are allowed to hatch (kings find them and keep#the prized eggs in their vaults full of treasure blatantly ignoring the very sacred and important dragonlord customs)#but then the Purge comes and now many dragonlords are hunted down and killed and many leave to never return#so yeah maybe Balinor was the last dragonlord on Albion by s2 finale but not because they all died but bc he was the last one who stayed#and lived since everyone else now reside elsewhere in the world refusing to rebuild the bridge the kings had burned#bbc merlin#dragonlords#headcanons#asks

Bi Nathalie Sancoeur truthers rise up
#miraculous ladybug#nathalie sancoeur#miraculous ladybug spoilers#mlb spoilers#she’s bi and has fallen in love with both Gabriel and Emilie#but she was definitely treasure-hunter friends with Gabriel#I think that Nathalie knew Gabriel first and was his treasure-hunting friend/adventure buddy#and then Emilie came along#and Gabriel and Emilie grew close and fell in love#the three of them still went on adventures and the Miraculous adventure was their last one#(although with what I remember of the timeline Nathalie might’ve stayed behind with Adrien#while Emilie and Gabe went on a ‘work trip’ to go find the miraculous since Emilie has only been ‘missing’ for about a year (right?))#anyway Nathalie stayed close to her adventure friends and became Gabriel’s bodyguard in order to stay close and protect him (his dumb ass#definitely sprung all the traps on adventures)#and because she cares about both of them and Adrien#now back on track Nathalie cares about both Gabriel and Emilie (I am leaning for romantic attraction for both)#and she care about Adrien like a son#and she’ll do what she has to to protect those she cares about; even if it means turning on Gabriel to protect Adrien#case in point: she literally became a supervillain and fought child superhero’s to help Gabriel bring back Emilie#AND she turns against Gabriel to protect Adrien#wow this is a lot of speculative nonsense#and I haven’t even watched the episode yet lol#this is all based on tumblr gifs and posts that I’ve been staring at ferally

Fuckin BULLSHIT the one on the right is way better you only need 1 stroke to draw it!
Speaking of some things being objectively better than others for very important reasons, I booted up my brother’s old copy of Hyrule Warriors yesterday and tried to get A-ranks in the adventure mode, only to gradually realize just how important the level-up system is, meaning that no matter how good you are, the only way to have a chance of getting A-ranks on the later stages is to grind until the enemies don’t take 5 whole minutes each to kill.
Then I ranted to myself in my room about how Ultrakill’s P-ranks are way better
#asks#what kind of legend of zelda game has a fucking level up system?#the game already has 3 other progression systems to make you more powerful#why include a level up system? in a zelda game?#have i ranted about my hatred of number inflation/number-go-up progression on tumblr before?#because i REALLY hate when a perfectly good game has a level up system slapped onto it for no reason#especially this one!#why am i being punished for using a character that i don't play very often?!#absolute nonsense#and when i was playing and trying to a-rank a level i kept getting closer and closer to doing it#and i was like 'yes i'm doing it i'm learning the level and mastering my character!'#'now that i know my character better i'm killing the enemies so much faster! :D'#no. it was just because my numbers were going up :(#'We added a progression system.'#ruined a perfectly good game is what you did. look at it it's got a treadmill attached#some games actually USE their level up systems#pokemon uses it for evolution and to teach new moves#i still don't like the number inflation aspect but at least it's SOMETHING#and Tunic has you finding offerings in hidden treasure chests and choosing how you spend your currency#but hyrule warriors? nothing. it just boosts your health and damage#which i repeat: THERE ARE OTHER PROGRESSION SYSTEMS IN THE GAME THAT ALREADY DO THAT#except you actually have some control over those ones#you get heart containers by finding treasure and getting a-ranks#and you get better weapons by getting loot from enemies and getting a-ranks#and there's ALSO the badge system which does a whole bunch of Stuff#i swear the only reason to have the level up system is to artificially extend the playtime#i guess there might be a skill barrier because the other progression methods require a-ranks#but forcing less-skilled players to spend hours grinding to get up to the level of better players is NOT the solution

practicing gratitude. even though today was a little chaotic, I genuinely learned a lot (about abortions, about IUD insertion, about gyn cases, about specimens, about skin grafting) and it was really interesting. the teams were all pleasant and friendly, and my circ was the sweetest woman I think I've ever met at work. although clearly overwhelmed herself, since she had experience but had just started working there on her own and the residents left her out to dry, she was endlessly kind and encouraging towards me. you know melanie lynsky from yellowjackets? her voice sounded like that. just SO sweet

I don't Get Pokémon eggs. I've only ever taken care of one but that's besides the point.
Why do so many of them look like that? Is it a slow-evolutionary development so that egg-eating species can't properly develop, since the eggs will look like their own always??? The only difference is the colour of the flecks. Green, orange, purple, red, and I'm pretty sure I've heard people talk about blue ones before, but that might just be a rumour.
So for colourblind species, it would be easier to not touch the eggs, since they've got the same pattern of flecks and the same shape. It's also used as a way to trick other Pokémon into raising their young.
But then in some regions I've read that the eggs match the Pokémon that's in them? What gives??? Why is it different? The only egg I've ever taken care of first hand was one of the generic ones, purple flecks. It's just very confusing, and I don't really know why it's different in different regions.
People have also described eggs as less of an actual egg and more of a cradle for baby Pokémon, which I don't understand either! Isn't that what an egg is? Does it not actually develop the Pokémon inside? It must do, surely. Maybe the Pokémon is developed mostly while the egg is developing inside the mother, and once the egg is laid it works like humans do? Newborn human infants are in what we call a fourth trimester, where they still have to finish developing. We come out earlier than other species because our heads are too big to fit otherwise, and we'd either get stuck in there or destroy our mothers' reproductive system by the time we manage to get out. So yeah no, not exactly the way you wanna come into the world. Instead, we develop three trimesters in, come out earlier, and then finish the fourth trimester outside of the womb, our parents then care for us for the fourth trimester until we can start developing key skills like walking and talking and moving things around.
Are Pokémon eggs the same? Where they're developed in the womb for the first few trimesters, then are out into the eggs to finish developing?
But like, nobody's ever seen a pregnant Pokémon. Is it that they develop their offspring so fast at the start and then immediately put them into the eggs? I can't imagine a Pokémon is pregnant for more than a few hours at a time, surely, with the rate that eggs can be produced if you're not careful. So maybe the egg stage is the longest stage, but the infant Pokémon inside is already almost fully developed?
We have a module in Pokémon development and breeding this semester, I really hope they go over this. I don't want to have to watch old videos of professor elm explaining this. I'm sure he's lovely, but his voice goes through me.
