It'll be a long list:

The over reliance on heroes has lead to the civilians becoming uncaring and unwilling to do the bare minimum of effort in human decency. Not even trying to help a child clearly in need (tenko, leading to the second part of shigaraki's villain origin story) and only willing to help deku (a young hero also pretty clearly in need of help) when it benefited them.

2. Quirk (or lack of) Persecution. Toga being a big example in her quirk's function of needing/being compelled to blood, and her parents/hero society personnel treating her terribly, causing her to eventually break and reject them/become a villain in turn.

Aoyama is also an example in a different way, his parents were trying to help him from the suffering (bad treatment by peers most likely) of being quirkless but in doing so made them all AFO's pawns. Plus how deku was treated. And tying in to this example 👇

3. Heteromorph (quirk appearance) discrimination. Spinner, shoji, 'ordinary woman' mutant. Everything about them being the most prevalent examples of hero society being horrible to those who are different.

4. Government assassinations and child soldiers. Lady nagant and hawks, taken in and trained since young children to be killers and spies.

Also the system being willing to send the hero students into literal war zones, TWICE. (Not twice as in Jin, twice as in the pro heroes/government were using the hero students to fight in both wars against the villains.) (Also unless someone who is specifically against these things, calls them out and gets into a position of power, there's nothing stopping these things from happening again in the future.)

5. Heroes who don't have good intentions. Endeavor created Dabi as an unintended consequence of his obsession with surpassing All-might, and many other heroes only signed up for the fame, money and opportunities that being a hero brings, leading to many of them bailing out when things got dark.

It is true that everyone has their own individual reasons, but when your actions can decide the course of all society's future/other people's lives, core motivations should definitely be found out as soon as possible and taken into account.

6. Refusing to acknowledge the incredibly obvious threat of the quirk singularity. The pro heroes and some students were almost immediately able to realize something was up when they saw children with very powerful quirks in the remedial course, recognizing just by looking that the children's quirks were more powerful than their's were at that age. A few inspiring moments and everyone forgot all about it.

I guess nobody looked into Eri's past too? Since her quirk killing her father never came up again.

Not to mention, though uncertain canon, the whole third movie was centered around this doomsday and not a single hero cared, even deku's heroic answer to the villain was just: "You should have tried harder man!!"

Though in fairness, Deku's answer might change with his current character development...hopefully.

7. Other examples are heroes getting so many brand deals, being celebrities and the hero scoreboard stuff.

Not outright corrupt but can definitely cause problems if taken in the wrong ways.

Those are all the flaws I can think of right now, hope this answers your ask.

Interview with Minori Suzuki (Liko's VA), translation here.

Lots of interesting stuff brought up in the interview, such as Liko's development and how she started voicing her feelings more. They brought up the scene with Dot in HZ049 when she voiced her concern about Dot passing her test as Gurumin, which made me happy since it's a scene that really stood out to me too, since Liko was trying to convey her worry at the right moment, which highlighted her kindness.

They also talked about Kaede and Chili and their impact on Liko, as well as Liko's relationship with Nyarote (Nyarote encouraging her to pull herself together, and how they show affection to each other since Nyarote is bigger and can hug Liko now).

I'm curious about Liko's future confrontation with Grusha (a sense of uneasiness between them was brought up).

Interview with Terasaki Yuka (Roy's VA), translation here.

Various talks about how Roy is growing as a trainer. They also brought up the fact that Terasaki Yuka was the VA for Corni during the XY anime (I liked Corni, so it's nice to see her VA talking about her), and how her experience as Corni influenced a bit the way she approached Roy at the beginning.

Also, I liked the part when Terasaki Yuka explains the way she sees Roy's approach to dream (and that she brought up the promise Roy made to his grandfather, to go meet him back in the island on Rayquaza!). I also feel like Roy is the type to be fixated on a singular dream, and that his dream to be acknowledged by Rayquaza is his alone. Him and Liko just happen to have shared goals, but I think they're distinct.

They talked about the possibility of Hogator evolving (which will mostly likely happen in Roy's battle against Rhyme), and wondered how Hogator's song would be once he evolves.

Terasaki Yuka also mentioned feeling reassured that kids are enjoying Horizons since she has children who love the anime a lot, so she gets to see upfront the influence of the current anime.

Yoshino Aoyama mentioned that she didn't audition for Dot at the beginning (I wonder who she was auditioning for?). "Fans are happy to see you playing another shy character" may be referencing Bocchi the Rock?

They mentioned the fact that Dot's test against Nanjamo was a two-parter because the writers wanted to carefully depict her change of heart and feelings (Dot really is loved). Dot's relationship with Nanjamo was brought up as well, and is thought about positively.

They brought up the possibility of Kuwassu evolving (just like with Roy's Hogator, I think it'll happen pretty soon, probably during Dot's implementation test). Yoshino Aoyama also talked about Dot's relationship with Kanuchan and the way it gets Dot out of her comfort zone. She also brought up that small moment in HZ044 when Dot called back Kanuchan in her Pokeball because she wasn't sure how to handle her crying (also a moment I really liked for the exact same reasons she brought up).

They also talked about how Kanuchan's final evolution form attacks Armorga! Yoshino Aoyama brought up Amethio, and how she thinks Dot probably knows about the history between Armorga and Dekanuchan. I also wonder if the writers will do something with it eventually (and I'm glad the VAs are also aware of these facts and think about them as possibilities).

They talked about how children don't necessarily realize Dot is Gurumin, which is interesting (I didn't even think about that). Yoshino Aoyama also talked about her view of Dot saying things are a "pain" (very insightful part btw) and how she doesn't want Dot to be seen as unpleasant because she isn't (again, Dot is loved).

At the end, Yoshino Aoyama mentioned that she believes Dot will get a more concrete goal eventually, which made me curious. Perhaps becoming a professor eventually? Who knows.

Chapter 65

Katsuki and I were walking to U.A. while talking, the usual thing. That's why I wondered what was happening when, by the lockers at the back of the classroom, were Izuku and Aoyama dancing. Well, if you can even call that dancing.

Then Kaminari exclaimed something to Jiro, making her flinch. "Speaking of hobbies, yours is amazing!" Jiro had a subtle blush and she was showing a barely noticeable frown at Kaminari. She told him to shut up, but as it was usual, the blond didn't listen to her, "Your room looked like a music store. That's more than just a hobby."

"Stop already! Forget my room."

I looked back and forth between them, seeing Yaomomo behind them, as if she wanted to stop them only to stand there silently, and Kaminari kept talking. "It's a professional's room! It seems-" My eyes widened when Jiro used her quirk, and her earbud rushed towards Kaminari, only to stop a few inches away from his face.

"For real." Was all she said before she retracted her left earbud and walked back to her desk while blushing a bit more, all the while Kaminari was left shaking in his place, his head turning towards Jiro and Yaoyorozu, who was staring at him as if he understood his confusion. And I did too, Jiro never missed a chance to electrify Kaminari so this was a weird behaviour coming from her.

Something was off about today, but I ignored it when the bell rang and Katsuki dragged me to sit down. Aizawa stepped in right after everyone sat down, walking to his podium and poking his head out of his sleeping bag.

"The culture festival is coming up," right when the rest were commenting about it, I heard Tsuyu ask something that caught my attention.

"Sensei, were you with Eri-chan today?" Tsuyu asked and I glanced at her for a second.

Eri... I wonder how she's feeling.

"Aah, let's put aside that matter," Aizawa said. I understood why he didn't want to talk about it, especially with the rest of the class present.

But while everyone kept cheering, Eijiro spoke. "Sensei, are you sure is a good time to celebrate anything?" Kaminari looked at him and said 'You've changed, Kirishima', well I was with him on this one. "It's just that villains are very active at the moment."

"It's a true and valid opinion, but U.A. doesn't just have the Hero Course. If the Sports Festival is our stage, the Culture Festival is everybody else's. The support classes, general studies and business classes are the protagonists this time around. It's not as famous as the Sports Festival, but to them is an important event, and right now the Hero Course is one of the stress caused for a lot of students." After that, I kinda zoned out for a short while.

I remembered all the Cultural Festivals I spent with Shi-chan during Elementary School and Middle School. Most of the time, we would just stay at the entrance, monitoring people entering the class or would just be giving frills out to people.

Once, Hitoshi used his quirk on most of the people and made them go to our neko maid café. I chuckled internally at the memory until I was just frowning.

Shi-chan... how can I approach you again?

"I already said we aren't the main leaders of the event, but as a rule, each class has to select a program," I looked up at Aizawa as I got out of my memories, "We'll decide that today."

He said that, but... as soon as Iida and Yaoyorozu walked up the front, he sat on the floor and closed his eyes to sleep.

"Those with suggestions, lift your hand!"

The next thing I knew was that everyone lifted their hands, yelling ideas at the same time, I had to cover my ears as I tried to muffle their voices.

But Iida called out at Kaminari.

And that was how everyone gave ideas, but I didn't say anything. I'm not good at these kinds of things. Every idea was written on the board until nobody said anything else.

Yaoyorozu erased some, like inappropriate or unrealistic ones, and also those that she didn't understand. Then, we heard complaints about Iida's 'Presentation of Local History Investigation' theme and Yaomomo's 'Study Session' suggestion.

After that, it was more complaints about what to do, but then the bell rang, making everybody shut up as Aizawa got up and walked to the door.

"It was a senseless reunion, hm? Decide for tomorrow morning." He stopped before walking out, glaring at us, "In case you don't decide... We'll have an open class!"

Every single one of us flinched at that. I don't want that. We have to make up our minds!

Although I said we... I'll have to change it to they. Because the intern group was having supplementary classes.

I was listening attentively to Aizawa, that's why, when he stopped for a few seconds, I just stared at him curiously. Then, he glanced at Izuku and I.

"Midoriya, (L/n)." Not just him and me, everyone here stared at Aizawa. "Eri wants to see you."

The short silence was broken by Tsuyu, "She wants to see (L/n)-chan and Midoriya-chan?"

"Yes. This request is exclusive to (L/n), Midoriya and Togata." He looked at us again, "This is the first time she has asked for something since her been hospitalized."

The moment I saw Togata senpai, I asked about his wounds, he smiled brightly and told me he was fine. And Aizawa had a chat with us to tell us a lot of things right outside her room, but now, we were standing in Eri-chan's room.

She was sitting on her bed, looking at us. I was happy to see her again, but the scars all over her arms made me grit my teeth. But I showed her a smile either way.

"We're sorry we couldn't come earlier," Izuku said first and I nodded at his words.

Togata senpai handed her the fruit basket he brought. Eri told us her favourite fruit was apples, and that's how now, there was a plate filled with 'bunny apples'.

Togata senpai, Izuku and I were sitting in front of her, each on a chair while looking at her.

"All this time," she started and I paid close attention to her, "Even during my fever, I was thinking of something. Even while I was being rescued." Her red eyes which had been looking down, lifted and she stared at Izuku. "I didn't know your name."

When I looked at him, he had a shocked expression.

"I just knew (M/n)-san's and Lemillion-san's." When Eri said my name I turned to her, but I also felt Togata senpai and Izuku looking at me. Yes, I told her my first name instead of my hero name, I thought it would be easier for her to remember it, "And I wanted to know."

A few seconds later, Izuku told her his name, but to just call him Deku.

"(M/n)-san, Lemillion-san, Deku-san, and... that man with glasses..." I froze at her mentioning Sir. "Everyone... suffered so much, all because of me..."

Nobody told her about his death... but it was the best option, or she would've probably blamed herself. Eri would find out sooner or later, but... it would be too cruel at this moment.

"I'm sorry about everything. You had to experience such painful things because of me. It... is because of me that..." her eyes were filling with tears, making a stinging pain appear on my chest, right above my heart, "You lost your quirk, Lemillion-san..."

"Eri," I called her, and she looked up at me. My hand reached out to stroke her hair, "Nobody thinks that you caused painful things." I told her with a little smile.

"Yeah! Everybody is thinking, 'It's great that Eri-chan is safe'!" Togata senpai agreed with me and caressed her hair too, so I backed away, "It's worthless to beg forgiveness to somebody who isn't here! Let's take it easy! Everyone fought because they wanted a smile on your face!"

I couldn't agree more, Togata senpai.

But the three of us observed her as she was making sounds and weird gestures with her face until she grabbed her cheeks, pulling them up, and I realized she was trying to smile for us.

"I'm sorry... how do you smile, again?"

Her words broke my heart. I could see my siblings on her, and I already felt like she was a younger sister to me.

That bastard Chisaki... His influence is still on her... she hasn't been saved yet.

The longer she doesn't know what being truly happy is... she won't smile.

As a knot was growing in my throat, Izuku got up from his seat and went to Aizawa, who was standing at the door. I turned to them, and when I heard what he saying...

"Can Eri also come to the Cultural Festival?!"

And after that, many things were said. Togata said it was a great idea and explained some things to Eri, and when he spoke about the food stands, I remembered something.

"And apples..." Eri looked at me now, "There'll probably be candy apples there."

"Candy apples?" I smiled brightly at Eri.

"It's an apple covered in melted candy until the point of turning sweeter." As soon as I finished my explanation, Eri was slightly drooling.

"Sweeter..." She was in a daze, making me chuckle.

"Let's talk with the principal," Aizawa said and we nodded as he took out his phone.

"Well, then..." Izuku turned to her, "Eri-chan... what do you say?"

"I..." we stared at her, expectantly, "I've been thinking since you were saving me, about the people that saved me..." She looked down at her hands, closing in fists, looking up with a determined shine in her eyes, "(M/n)-san and everyone else, I want to know them more!"

Togata told her that he would talk about us until she got bored. And then he was saying weird things, like playfully saying something about going on a date with her.

"What are you talking about, Togata senpai?" Izuku and I said in unison, chuckling about it.

Both names have aspects of his character as a whole. Let’s start with his real name, Masato Arakawa:

荒 ara = laid waste, rough, rude, wild

川 kawa = stream, river

真 masa = true, reality

斗 to = Big Dipper, sake dipper

- About his family name: Similar to his father, he ends up living up to the meaning of his family name: As Aoki, he never hesitates to use the manpower of the Omi Alliance to destroy his enemies or anyone he considers an obstacle to his plans, including the innocent civilians that live in and depend on the ‘gray zones’ he intends to wipe out.

- About his given name: ‘Masato’ is a combination of the 真 (masa) in Masumi and the 斗 (to) in Toshio, his grandfather’s name. Like Arakawa himself, Masato subverts the meaning of his name: He fakes his death, takes a new name and pretends to be the friendly, kind and concerned politician that will change the future of Japan. Ichiban even mentions at one point that Masato got so used to this new Aoki persona that he forgot who he really was.

I found something interesting about the kanji 斗 that could be related to how Masato/Aoki sees his role as governor. It seems it can mean both Big Dipper and Little Dipper. I also found it’s called ‘Chinese Dipper’ and it refers in particular to the Little Dipper, where the famous North/Pole Star is located. In any case, the names overlap because of the ancient worship of these stars and their Buddhist deity Myōken, nowadays also known as his Shintō counterpart Ame no Minakanushi. From onmarkproductions.com: “Myōken was venerated under various guises as the central star controlling all other celestial bodies, one believed to control the life and fortunes of the people, one who protected not only the emperor and country, but also warded off diseases, prevented calamities of fire and other disasters, increased life spans, and healed eye diseases.”

Now, let’s see Ryo Aoki:

- About his family name: 青木 (aoki) is the Japanese laurel; spotted laurel; Aucuba japonica​. These colorful, ornamental plants are very versatile and can thrive in very difficult enviroments. Masato himself, as Aoki, adapted quite quickly to the world of politics, even learning how to effectively manipulate people to gain the support he needed to achieve his goals. He uses his secret ties to the yakuza world to control his enviroment and thrive.

- About his given name: Masato is a man that didn’t see what he had until it was too late. He was so focused on gaining the power and recognition he felt he needed that he completely turned his back on the only three men that genuinely cared for him since day one. He used them and even tried to kill them when he considered they were either his enemies or no longer useful to him. We play as his caring brother figure Ichiban, who is desperately trying to get close to him and save him from himself.

Your first real training to become heroes includes some uninvited guests.

Turns out the alarm was just reporters that broke onto campus to get the latest story on All Might and everything was alright. While you weren’t with your classmates, apparently Iida had done something and Midoriya had given up class rep so Iida could have it. Following school, you spent after-school training with Aizawa before you went home to finish homework before crashing. For the third night in a row surprisingly there was no dream.

With Hero Training today you were doing rescue. Thank the support course for being able to fix the damaged sleeved as well as add heating and cooler regulators in your suit, though you wouldn’t be using your quirk now it was helpful for the future.

“Are you excited L/n real work instead of fighting each other? Maybe we’ll be saving each other or we have people?” Kirishima says putting his fist together activating his quirk making small sparks.

“Definitely a whole lot better than the possibility of having to fight the Tasmanian Devil over there.” You point back at Bakugo who glares at you yelling at you though you tune him out.

“Line up according to your I.D. numbers fill those seats in an orderly fashion.” Iida blows a whistle, damn he really is taking class rep seriously. The open layout has Iida crying out in frustration as you all sit randomly. You’re sitting between Mina and Aoyama.

You zone for some of the conversations happening around only coming back when you hear name included.

“You wanna talk about strong and cool? That’d be Todoroki, Bakugo, and L/n with her new quirk.” Kirishima says and you look seeing some of your classmates look at you.

“But Bakugo’s so unhinged he’d never be popular,” Asui says and Bakugo immediately jumps out of his seat.

“What’d you say! I’ll kick your ass!” “See.” It brings a smirk onto your face seeing him get harassed, fucking karma.

“Y’know we basically just met you. So it’s kinda telling that we all know your personality is flaming crap mixed with garbage.” Kaminari says and you can’t help the laugh escape your mouth from the insults as Bakugo keeps rage on until Aizawa has to shut him up telling you all that you’ve arrived.

You all arrived at a large dome building that almost resembled an amusement park. “Is this Universal Studios Japan?” You hear Kirishima say in awe are you are lead inside.

“There’s the flood zone. Landside Zone. Conflagration Zone… etc. Every disaster and accident you can imagine,” Ahead of you was a hero in a spacesuit, it was the Space Hero: Thirteen, “I built this facility myself. I call it the “Unforeseen Simulation Joint”!” So it really is USJ.

“Thirteen. Where’s All Might? I thought he was meeting us here.” You hear Mr. Aizawa say to Thirteen before their voices get quiet. The scowl on his face deepens as he turns to face the class, “So be it. Let’s get started.”

Thirteen nods before holding up his hand, “Before we do, I have one or two points. Or three..four…Lots of points!” Aizawa nods letting him continue as the hero faces you all, “As I’m sure many of are aware…my quirk is called Black Hole. It can suck in and tear apart anything.

“And you’ve used it to save people in all sorts of disasters,” Midoriya calls out all excited to see more heroes in person. It was cool to see all these heroes every day and have some as your teachers.

“Indeed. However, my power could easily kill. I’ve no doubt there are some among you with similar abilities.” The deja vu hear a similar phrase, on your first day of training with Mr. Aizawa saying if I used my quirk recklessly I could easily hurt myself or hurt others, “In our super-powered society, the use of quirks is heavily restricted and monitored. It may seem that this system is a stable one. But we must never forget that it only takes one wrong move with an uncontrollable quirk for people to die. During Aizawa’s physical fitness test you came to learn of your own hidden potential. Through All Might’s battle training you experienced the danger that your respective quirks can pose to others. This class will show you a new perspective! You will learn how to utilize your quirks to save lives. Your powers are not meant to inflict harm. I hope you leave here today with the understanding that you’re meant to help people. That is all! I thank you for listening.” He finishes off taking a bow and you are all excited for what is to come.

“He’s awesome!” “Bravo! Braaavo!” “I can’t wait to get started!”

“Great first off..” Mr. Aizawa starts but the lights in the building flicker slightly and the room seems to drop several degrees. Down by the fountain, a small black speak appears before it grows larger and a hand comes out. It grows larger until a man walks out covered in hands and soon many others follow after including a large creature that has its brain exposed and its eyes in the brain. A sharp pain almost like a migraine has you pressing your hand against your temple as you lock your gaze with the person covered in disembodied hands. A chill runs through you as you both stare he is still as more people pour out of the fog. You can’t see his eyes past the hand covering his face but you could feel his burning gaze as he scans you.

“HUDDLE UP AND DON’T MOVE!” Mr. Aizawa yells at you and Kirishima grabs your arm pulling you back and you lose your gaze with the man. “Thirteen protect the students!”

“What the heck’s that? More battle robots? Like during the entrance exam?” Kirishima questions trying to step forward but Mr. Aizawa holds his arm stopping him,

“Don’t move those are…Villains!” Villains? How the hell did they even get past the barrier and security defenses.

The purple fog seemed to be human of some sort as it spoke. “Thirteen and Eraserhead, is it? According to the staff schedule, I received the other day… All Might is supposed to be here..”

“Where is he? We’ve come all this way. And brought so many playmates…All Might the Symbol of Peace..is he here…?” The man covered in hands croaks out staring towards the sky, “I wonder if some dead kids will bring him here?”

The fear that ran through you all hears those words. You knew later in life you would have to deal with villains but this was only your third day here. “Villains?! No way!!” “What villains’d be dumb enough to sneak into a school for heroes?”

“Sensei. Aren’t the intruder sensors? Yaoyorozu says and Thirteen nods,

“Yes, of course, there are!”

“Are they only here or also at the main building? Either way, if the sensors aren’t working it has to be one of their quirks that’s doing it.” Todoroki says as you look down at the villains before you. “This place is far from the campus. And they picked a time when there’d be few people here.. So maybe they’re not as dumb as they seem. They must have an objective. Because this is a well-coordinated sneak attack.” Todoroki says and he isn’t wrong this is the perfect timing and place to attack a group of students and Pro Heroes.

Aizawa steps away from the group of you pulling on his goggles, “Thirteen! Begin evacuation! And try calling the school! One of these villains must be jamming the sensors. There’s a good chase one of their electric-type is causing the interference. Kaminari, try using your quirk to signal for help.” He immediately enters hero mode instructing the group.

Midoriyia quickly follows after him trying to stop him, “But Sensei you can’t fight them all alone! Against the many, even you can’t nullify all their quirks! As Eraserhead, your fighting style involves erasure and a quick binding capture. Not head- one battle isn’t-”

“No good hero is a one-trick pony. Thirteen! Take care of them.” He says before rushing off into battle, you are all shocked seeing your teacher easily take down the villains. A hand grabs your shoulder pulling you towards your classmates,

“Come on L/n we gotta go.” The sharp pain in your head and ringing in your ears has you almost falling to your knees if it weren’t for Mina catching you holding most of your weight bringing you away. “L/n! Are you okay?” You can barely hear what she’s saying over the ringing but you shake your head pressing harder against the pain in your head.

“I won’t allow that.” The fog person appears in front of you all of you stopping you from leaving.

He towers over all of you menacingly, “Greetings. We are the League of Villains. Forgive our audacity but… Today we’ve come here to U.A. High School this bastion of heroism. To end the life…of All Might, the Symbol of Peace. We were under the impression that All Might would be here today but… It seems his schedule was revised?” He scans the group of you pausing slightly when he looks down at you being held up by Mina.

“Well this is surprising…no matter my role remains unchanged.” He rushes to attack you all but two people jump in front one sending an explosion the other slashing at it.

“Not if we end you first. Betcha didn’t see that coming!” Kirishima says and the fog person returns to its original form unaffected.

“That was close…yes… students though you may be, you are the best of the best.”

“No, get back! Both of you!” Thirteen calls out to the two of them but the villain quickly attacks.

“BEGONE. WRITHE IN TORMENT UNTIL YOU BREATHE YOUR LAST.” You feel your hand slip from Mina’s grasp as she calls out for you before you are completely taken over by darkness.

You feel your body hit the ground and your vision clears looking around you see you are in the middle of the USJ by the fountain a few feet away is Mr. Aizawa fighting other villains. You should go help him but you are still not ready yet, you’ve gotta better at hand-to-hand combat but you have dared touch your quirk since your first training. You were so focused on what to do you didn’t realize the person standing before you. Look up your face to face with the hand guy. You couldn’t move, you weren’t even sure you were breathing. Your body screamed at you to fight or run but you were frozen in place as he bends down to your level and his hand reaches out to you.

You were going to die, this was it. You would never become a hero this is it. Squeezing your eyes accepting the painful fate you’re about to receive when you feel a gentle touch on your face. Opening your eyes you’re shocked to see he isn’t choking the life out of you or using whatever his quirk is to kill you. His hand is rough in texture as he traces the features on your face-scanning you over. What the hell was happening. You realize while his hand traces your face he wasn’t using all of his fingers keeping at least away from your skin. He looks you in the eye and you see his eyes past the hand. His eyes are a bright red that is surrounded by scars the shaggy light blue hair of his tries to hide them but you still see them. As they look at you, you can’t help but feel some form of nostalgia did you know him? His gaze breaks from your looking at your hair and his gaze hardens. His breathing gets heavier as his hands scape into his neck causing him to bleed. Your hand reacts without your brain telling it to and it grasps his wrist stopping him from hurting himself more. Both of your eyes widen. He is in shock from the contact you gave him and yours in fear did you seriously just grab this villain’s wrist. His hand raises going to grab yours and says one word.

“Y/n..”

Your eyes widen and you feel something wrap around your waist and you’re pulled from his grasp. You see his eyes widen and he reaches his hand out to grab you but it misses. Your body collides with someone else and quickly turned around and you see your teacher’s frantic face.

“Are you alright L/n?! Did he hurt you!?” He says looking over you as you are still shocked any of that happened and just nod silently. You both look back at the villain he is rising to his feet still staring at the wrist you held before his gaze snaps up to glare at your teacher. You’re pushed behind your teacher as he grasps his binding cloth. “Stay here L/n.”

Your teacher quickly rushes off and himself and the villain being to fight while you just stand there and watch still speechless. Your mind is running a mile a minute as so much information floods your brain. Why didn’t he attack you? Why was he so calm around you? How did he know your name? Aizawa slams himself against the villain but his elbow is grabbed with the villain’s full hand and you watch in horror as the cloth and skin begin to disintegrate away. This was his quirk… Aizawa punches him across the face kicking him away before he is quickly attacked by more villains.

“Your quirk… It’s not good in long, group battles, huh? This is kinda different from your usual work, yeah? You specialize in quick sneak attacks,” The villain pushing himself up to stand once again, “Yet you jumped right into this fight. Hoping to make the kids feel safe? So cool. So cool. By the way, Hero..” A shadow overtakes your teacher and you are too slow to scream out to him. “I’m not the boss here.”

“Meet the Anti-Symbol of Peace. The bio-engineered…Nomu.”

You feel bile rises but does leave. You‘re frozen watching your teacher get pummeled and his arm snap in multiple ways. You felt utterly hopeless watching this monster hurt your teacher falling to your knees as you stare.

“Canceling out quirks. Pretty cool but nothing special. Up against crazy strength, you might as well be totally quirkless.” The villain says as the Nomu creature grabs Mr. Aizawa’s right arm and crushes it a scream ripping from your teacher’s lungs.

The fog person appears next to the villain, “Tomura Shigaraki.” That was this person’s name the villain that was so cruel to others but touched you as if you were made of glass.

“Kurogiri. Is Thirteen dead?” Shigaraki says and Kurogiri looks disappointed for someone who is fog.

“He’s incapacitated, but there were some students I couldn’t warp away… And one of them escaped.” Shigaraki is still before he starts scratching his neck frantically.

“Huh…Huuuh… Kurogiri. You…I’d turn you to dust if you weren’t our ticket out of here. We won’t stand a chance against dozens of Pros. It’s game over, man…It’s game over for now.” He turns away and begins walking away, “We’re leaving.”

You watch as Kurogiri and he walked to the Nomu that is holding Aizawa pressing his broken face into the ground. “But before that. Let’s leave a few dead kids…” He sprints over in seconds over to where Midoriya, Asui, and Mineta his hand reaching out for Asui. “To wound the pride of the symbol of peace.”

You could do nothing but watch as his hand landed on her face, horrified to watch the decaying process happen but you are shocked to see nothing happen. “You really are pretty cool,” You look at where Shigaraki is looking at and see Aizawa using his quirk to save his students. His head is quickly slammed into the ground returning his quirk and Midoriya rushes to save Asui.

“GET OFF HER!!” “Nomu.” Midoriya slams his fist causes dirt to rise the cloud clears revealing the Nomu towering over him.

Shigaraki chuckles looking over at Midoriya, “Quite a move you just pulled off… and with a ‘smash’ too…You a fan of All Might?” The Nomu grabs Midoriya’s arm swinging him round as Shigaraki reaches out for Asui and Mineta. The sound of the doors breaking apart draws all eyes to who stands there.

“FEAR NOT. I AM HERE.” Your savior has finally arrived. He seems like a flash grabbing your teacher and your classmates bringing them a safe distance. You see the hand that was on Shigaraki’s face fall off. He shakes as he bends down grabbing it keeping one finger off it. “Throwing punches to save people… That’s our state-sponsored violence. You’re fast. Too fast to keep up with, but not as fast as expected. Could it really be true?” He looks up staring at you as he speaks these words to All Might.

“That you’re getting weaker?” You knew you should be running, helping your classmates but the look you were getting from Shigaraki kept you frozen. You don’t know what to do with yourself, come on body move fight help them.

Your brain however doesn’t allow your body to move to force you to watch All Might attack Shigaraki and the Nomu. The Nomu takes All Might’s attacks like it was nothing and when All Might tries to slam him over his body a portal appears before the Nomu letting it appear underneath All Might its fingers digging into his shirt blood quickly staining his clothes. You see Midoriya run to your teacher to try to stop the Nomu when a portal appears in front of him but a large blast sends Kurogiri down on the ground.

“Get the hella outta here!! Deku!” Bakugo yells pinning down Kurogiri, ice surrounds the Nomu and Todoroki quickly appears, and harden hand goes to strike Shigaraki but he dodges and Kirishima slides into view.

“So I heard you people are here to kill All Might,” Todoroki says as the three of them stand before the villain and All Might frees himself.

“Crap! Almost had ‘im!” “You’re not all that. You misty mook!” “But scum like you could never kill the Symbol of Peace.”

“You’ve pinned down our way out… Well, this is a problem..” Shigaraki says looking at his escape failing.

“You slipped up, you bastard! And it’s just like I thought. The parts you can turn into that foggy warp gate are limited and you’re using the misty crap to hide your real body yeah?! Am I right!?” Bakugo yells sparks coming from his hands making Kurogiri groan in pain. “If you decide to do anything fishy..I’ll blow your ass up right now! They’ll be cleaning you up for weeks.”

“Woah that doesn’t sound very heroic,” Kirishima says looking at his friend concerned.

Shigaraki is still looking at the failed plan in front of him. “Not only have you beaten our level, but you’re all at full health…today’s kids really are something our League of Villains should be ashamed!” Shigaraki looks over at the Nomu who is stuck in the warp portal and has ice covering half of its body. “Nomu take out the explosive brat. We need our escape route back.”

The creature slides through one end of the gate standing fully but the leg and arm covered in ice break off but it is still moving. “His body’s falling apart, but he’s still moving?!” Midoriya says in horror.

“Get back everyone! What the…I thought his quirk was shock absorption.” All Might says holding his hand out and you all watch as the missing limbs regrow returning to normal not a lick of damage on it.

“I don’t remember saying that’s all he can do. This is hyper-regeneration. Nomu is a super-powered living sandbag designed to withstand everything you’ve got.” Shigaraki and times seem to slow down as it runs to Bakugo ready to give a killing blow to free Kurogiri.

He was going to die. He can’t dodge that. Feeling your body move without your brain registering. You feel immense power run through your body as you run past Shigaraki and run side by side with the Nomu as it gets closer. You see from the corner of your eye All Might move though slightly slower his eyes widening seeing you move at speeds faster them him. You turn in your path standing in front of Bakugo as the Nomu rears its hand back ready to hit you. Come on body I know I’m not ready for this power but help me. I want to help people.

I want to be a hero.

Striking your hand out your hand hits on its chest and a tingling sensation runs through you and out your hand. Times speed up dust getting kicked up in the air and it begins to clear and your classmates and teacher are shocked to see you standing in front of Bakugo having appeared from nowhere holding back the Nomu. Your gaze is locked on the creature who is frozen in his spot his fist still pointed towards you. A spark came from your hand and you watch as cracks appear over its body but it can’t regenerate fast enough. You’re horrified watching it disintegrate in front of your eyes its head is that last thing you see before it is nothing but dust in the wind.

A sharp pain goes through your head as you look at Shigaraki who is looking at you in shock. You were just over there a second ago and you killed his Nomu in one simple touch of your hand. You are something else but it was the look in your eye and the power that is exuding from you was something he’s only seen come from one other person. “One for All..” He whisper as he knows you were something to fear from.

You felt frozen in your place as too many things happened at once with All Might going to fight Shigaraki and Kurogiri before Midoriya jumps into the fray, then heroes appear saving the day. You watch as Shigaraki looks at you one last time both of your gazes hard before he fades into the warp gate.

Your body feels weak as you hear the faint noise of people shouting for help or crying of joy that they were saved. You turn to see Kirishima rushing towards you his mouth moving but you couldn’t understand what he was saying. A barrier suddenly appears from the ground and you turn around your movements sluggish your world on an axis as dizziness takes over. Your eyes widen seeing where All Might once stood is a thin man with smoke coming off him. The hero’s eyes widen seeing you standing a few ahead looking at him his secret being revealed. What shocks him more is watching strands of your hair suddenly turn white in front of his own eyes.

The dizzying feeling increases and from the smoke surrounding All Might you can almost make out figures from it, one of them being strikingly familiar and the last thing you see before you collapse is the same woman standing next to All Might.

A portal in an unknown location opens up spitting out an injured Shigaraki. “I was shot. Both arms and both legs…we got crushed. Even Nomu was taken down… Our cannon fodder was taken down in a flash..even those kids were strong…The Symbol of Peace is in perfect health!” He yells out to the empty room. “You were wrong master…”

A sinister voice comes from the screen on the table,” No, I wasn’t. We merely got ahead of ourselves. Yes…we underestimated him. Good thing that League of Villain came cheap. Anyway what of our creation? Nomu? Did you retrieve him?” The two villains freeze hearing their master’s question.

“The Nomu was destroyed,” Kurogiri states looking down and there is a pause before the voice speaks,

“Destroyed, that is not possible the quirks given shouldn’t have it dying.” The voice says and Shigaraki is reminded of the power he felt when he watched you kill the one thing that could stand up to All Might.

“A girl, one of the students destroyed it…she used Tomura’s quirk..” There is silence before the sound of laughter rings from the speaker.

“A child killed a creature able to withstand the Symbol of Peace. What quirk does she possess that allows such power-”

“It was Y/n master..” Shigaraki blurts out and it’s quiet before his master speaks again.

“So she does have the power within her. Tell me Tomura you felt it didn’t you the power she has in her.” Shigaraki is silent and his master continues speaking, “No use crying over spilled milk! This endeavor was not a complete loss. Find stronger troops! Take all the time you need! We can’t move freely! That’s why we need a symbol like you. Tomura Shigaraki! Next time the world will know of the terror you represent!”

Shigaraki can feel nothing but rage with the events that lead him here, but the new factors coming in add another piece to the larger puzzle.

The next time you two meet you will fully unlock your power.

BNHA Ch. 364 - Review, parallels & comparisons

Piping hot take: It’s possible that Edgeshot, Mirko, and Bakugo will live, as we’ve still got multiple characters in play (Eri, Overhaul, Twice) that have powers capable of rewinding/reviving the dead. Or, events that take 25 chapters could be unfolding over minutes in-universe, making permadeath less likely. E.g., time seemed to stop during the war arc’s vestige battle. Honestly, I really don’t think there’s much more to say on this, as I personally try not to get super worked up every single week when Best Jeanist calls a time of death.

This chapter is called “Why We Wield Power,” and it’s an interesting theme that runs throughout the 3 featured storylines. Structurally, we once again have an AFO sandwich, this time with US beef between the AFO buns (of the Gunga and UA variety). Each of the 3 parts explores a character’s “why,” reminding me of the question All Might asked Endeavor during the remedial arc: What purpose does our strength serve? All Might thought the answer was simple, and in Ch. 357 Endeavor finally confirmed it’s securing a bright future for the next generation.

Original Recipe AFO also thinks his worldview is simple — the world should be “me” and “not me,” with none of the tints or tones that Izuku discussed with Lady Nagant; certainly none of the moral grey area that heroes like Hawks exist within. I wish there was more between AFO and Hawks here because AFO managed to extract concessions of weakness from both All Might (agreeing he wasn’t a very good teacher) and Endeavor (agreeing his hands ruined Toya’s future, which in turn led to “so many stolen futures”). I’d like to see if AFO can break through Hawks’s shell when his full attention is on Hawks. The discussion about “what counts as ‘bad stuff’” is a great start because, yanno, he murdered Twice. Oh, and Hawks is completely wrong that the answer is “villains do bad stuff;” Midoriya expressly said the opposite to Aoyama. Doing wrong does NOT make you a villain for life.

But, as a stalling tactic, Hawks’s choice is fantastic. AFO has long questioned what makes a “villain” and denied that it has anything to do with a legal label. He loves to wax poetic about this. FWIW, I wrote about the definition of “villain” vs criminal in this ask here during the traitor reveal so I won’t go off on it now.

There is a bit of melancholy for AFO here too. As much as he wants to be the Demon Lord from his comics, this body will never transcend its human limits. Even with hatred in AFO’s heart, he will never truly steal OFA, because he cannot have “emotions so strong, they’re too much for one person to bear.” Moreover, AFO only had enough power for one Rewind based on Ujiko’s vial, so if he’s wounded in the future, he’s done for. (I speculated that this would happen back in 357, because Rewind is like AFO or OFA — they’re “blank,” hollow quirks that require a power source. AFO may have drained some of his other powers to use Rewind.) AFO is back to prime condition, but he’s vulnerable to take damage. His hope for immortality rests with TomurAFO. Or, at least that’s what he wants us to believe. I have doubts that AFO is heading to UA to “rescue” Tomura because…has he EVER rescued Tomura?? Do we really think the guy who took longevity quirks and used Rewind on himself wants to secure a bright future for TomurAFO?

That takes us to the United States, with the President and Agpar. Apparently this is how the Japanese imagine post-apocalyptic Washington, DC, and honestly the senseless gun violence tracks (even though the tall buildings are so not DC):

The US is a “half step” into the red zone with Star & Stripe dead, and they’re now saying the quiet part out loud: TomurAFO can’t be stopped through conventional fighting tactics. His body, with or without quirks, is a perfect monster. Therefore, instead of trying to kill him, developed nations are racing to appease him and let him rule. Why? To secure a bright future for the next generation.

“Cool motive, still enabling a Demon Lord,” says Agpar. He thinks appeasing TomurAFO means no future for anyone (and he’s the more accurate of the two). Agpar continues to challenge the President, saying Star and Stripe was following in her idol’s footsteps because she observed All Might as a child. “Adults, in turn, support the children as they pass it forward…and so on…to the next generation. Heroes have always wielded their power in the name of that cause!” The art is beautiful, but it bothers me so I’m not posting it (hey, it’s my blog).

The thing is, All Might didn’t exactly support what Star & Stripe did. He asked for international support, and she took off on her own with a small squad. She then engaged TomurAFO entirely on her own with her squad. It doesn’t even seem like All Might got a chance to speak to Star & Stripe, let alone meet her.

I’m uncomfortable that Agpar is positioning Star as All Might’s successor, passing on All Might’s heroism to the next generation when (1) THE MAN IS ALIVE AND CAN SPEAK FOR HIMSELF THANK YOU VERY MUCH TIM; (2) All Might has an actual hand-picked and trained successor in Izuku; and (3) All Might pledged his support behind Class 1-A, wherever their heroic flame leads them.

If the Americans once again fly to Japan, I just wanna see Koichi Haimawari show up. :)

What is the carebear AU? Past posts aint helping

okay, so the first thing you need to know is that this is also a magical boy au. i will make a list of plot:

- years and years prior to the start of the au, aizawa and oboro were magical cat boys together stopping robot invasions. in the end it turned out that the one behind them was nedzu. nedzu agrees to stop as long as aizawa and oboro work at UA to pay off that debt (oboro of course doesn't make it that far)

- somewhere between ten and twenty years before the start of the au, all for one is for some reason at the place where carebears live. he's evil so he decides to destroy the place. thinking he's killed them all, he leaves, but he only destroyed one building. the carebears decide to hunt him down and punish him with community service if they ever find him

- about eight years prior to the start of the au robot invasions started happening again, though this time it wasn't nedzu.

- eight years prior to the start of the au, endeavor is replaced by a portable gas stove on a roomba. the only person to notice this is izuku, but he doesn't mention it cause he's being polite

- at some point, all might runs into the carebears cause they're also after afo. they become allies

- aoyama is half carebear, but he was born without the carebear thingy so his parents went to afo like pwease give him a quirk that's like the carebear stare thingy and he was like lmao sure, the price is misery and anguish later on when i call upon him to be a traitor

- izuku is also half carebear but doesn't know it. inko is a carebear but she's pretending to be human. this is dad for one

- shortly, possibly a few months, before the start of the au, hawks and tokoyami find themselves becoming magical boys. they do not know what they're doing. apparently the fact that they're always sent to robot invasions doesn't clue in, so they instead attack the carebears who are picking up the slack for them. hawks is constantly on coffee and completely unhinged and he's made it his life's mission to kill all these carebears

- eeby deeby hell is the magical boy administrative area. it's a pure white office building sort of place with no windows and it's just a bunch of corridors and meeting rooms. the magical boys get to eeby deeby by zoning out and arriving there. it's actually called the administration zone, cause that's where all the filing is meant to happen, but oboro named it eeby deeby hell way back and the name stuck

- there's suspicious yelling/screaming coming from one of the rooms in eeby deeby but everyone's like /: i don't wanna get involved in that, so prior to the start of the au no one has discovered what's going on there

- oboro has glitched out and halfway lives in eeby deeby. he has his own office. he's absolutely no use cause half the time he's doing nothing and there's just mario kart music playing in the background (suspicious) and half the time he's glitching out like he can't connect to the server

and this is just the stuff that happens before the start of the au. there's more but i need to do stuff today whoops. but like,, if anyone wants to know more like the actual during the story plot points ur welcome to ask

Finally done with this chapter and this arc. Can’t believe I have an entire post that’s just about Tsukauchi Naomasa. The discord server is so happy. There’s a lot of Naomasa love in there, and I mean, can you blame them? Dude is the straight man in a world of shounen bullshit. Gotta respect his ability to take everything happening in stride.

[No. 21 - In Each of Our Hearts]

We have brief passage of time wherein the police arrive at the USJ. We see Tsukauchi doing a headcount of the students while Sansa is directing the other police in containing and leading the villains out of the building. Naomasa is able to determine that, aside from the one with the messed up legs (Izuku), all of the students are unharmed. As if to confirm this, we get some wide shots of the class in two panels, showing everyone to be perhaps roughed up, but not really injured.

Hagakure puts her hand on Ojiro’s shoulder, commenting on how he’d ended up in the fire zone, and on his own at that, with a small congratulations. Ojiro admits he’d thought everyone was alone, and that he’d only survived with hit-and-run tactics. He then asks Hagakure where she was, and she points out Todoroki before stating she’d been in the landslide area, and that Todoroki’s crazy strong. We see Todoroki and his worry that he could have frozen her, while Ojiro in the background just says that he’s glad she’s okay.

Aoyama, of course, then tries to take center stage. Aoyama seems like he’s about to reveal where he’d been, but then turns to the other students to ask them if they have any ideas. 

He first tries the group consisting of Tokoyami, Koda, Kirishima, and Kaminari, but all of them are busy with a conversation. Tokoyami makes a comment on how he guesses ‘those lowlifes’ were spread out, waiting for them. Kirishima slams a fist into the palm of his other hand and complains about how the villains had been looking down on them because they were kids.

Then he turns to Tsuyu, asking her where she thinks he was. She plays along for a bit, asking him where, only for Aoyama to dramatically turn away and pose while stating that it’s a secret. Tsuyu turns her attention back to Tsukauchi, completely uninterested in his shenanigans. 

Tsukauchi states that they (likely meaning the police and pro heroes) are going to get the students back to the classroom for now, and that this is no time to take their statements. Tsuyu asks after Aizawa, and Naomasa gives her the details - both arms smashed to splinters, face is fractured. Thankfully, there’s no brain damage, but his eye sockets have been pulverized, so there’s a chance he may suffer long-term loss of vision - or so he hears. He seems to be on a call with the hospital at the time, or perhaps the station where all of this cleanup and investigation are being processed.

This is not exactly the welcome news Tsuyu or Mineta were looking for, both of them looking pretty torn up over it.

Tsukauchi continues down the list of injuries - Thirteen has terrible lacerations across her back and upper arms, but her life isn’t in danger. All Might’s injuries aren’t life threatening either; it’s likely that Recovery Girl’s healing will be enough for him, so he’s gone off to the nurse’s office instead. 

Ochako and Tenya, basically in unison, ask after Izuku, worry etched across their faces. Naomasa takes a second to place the name, but confirms that Izuku also made it to the nurse’s office in time. He then states that he happens to have business there himself, so he’ll leave the rest of the cleanup to Sansa. Sansa gives a salute and confirmation. 

(Meanwhile, Ochako and Ashido are both puzzled because Sansa’s not a dog. Don’t be rude, girls.)

Nedzu notes that UA will need to completely revamp their security systems. Midnight adds on how teleportation quirks are rare enough, and that it’s a shame one of them had to go and turn villain. 

Another officer shows up to report to Tsukauchi, stating that they’ve apprehended what seems to be a villain in a thicket about 400 meters from the USJ. Tsukauchi asks what condition the villain is in, and the officer states that the villain seems unharmed, and that he didn’t resist arrest. He also adds that, oddly enough, the villain isn’t responding in any way, and appears to be mute.

Tsukauchi turns to Nedzu, asking for the opportunity to go over the school with a fine tooth comb. Nedzu gives him the go-ahead, saying that some won’t be happy, but the police certainly have jurisdiction. He notes that investigations are Tsukauchi’s field of expertise, so he can do what he feels is necessary.

We transition to the nurse’s office, with Izuku and Toshinori both stuck in bedrest. And honestly, I just cannot get over how tall Toshinori is, like.

Look at that. If he picked up Izuku for a hug, Izuku’s feet would maybe reach his knees. 

Anyways. Plot. Yes. Recovery Girl tells the two of them that, the situation being what it was, she can’t really scold them this time. Toshinori says that he thinks he’s probably shortened his time limit again, and that he’ll be lucky if he can still get an hour a day. Izuku’s worried about him, but Toshinori shoves himself up into a sitting position with a groan, shrugging it off with a ‘what can you do? Bad things happen.’

The nurse’s office door opened, Tsukauchi letting himself in with an apology for the intrusion/interruption. He greets Toshinori as an old friend, while Toshinori’s surprised Tsukauchi is here. Izuku shoots up into a seated position, worried about if it’s okay for Toshinori to be seen while he’s not buffed up. Toshinori says it’s fine, then gets a bit silly about his introduction of Tsukauchi to Izuku.

Tsukauchi calling him out on the weird intro though. Like I said, this man really puts up with so much shounen-world bullshit as the straight man. 

Tsukauchi then bring up his reason for stopping by - not to rush Toshinori or anything, but he’d like to ask about the villains. Toshinori interrupts him to ask if the students are alright, as well as Aizawa and Thirteen. Tsukauchi’s quiet for a moment, before huffing a laugh. He says that besides Izuku, the students have nothing more than a few bumps and bruises. The two teachers are also out of danger for now. If the three hadn’t put their lives on the line, the students wouldn’t have made it out unscathed.

Toshinori acknowledges the report, but tells Tsukauchi he’s got one thing wrong, which draws a surprised frown from him. Toshinori goes on to explain how in that fight, the students put their lives on the line too. To be thrown into a real battle so young and survive - now these first years know how scary the wider world can be. Has he ever heard of such a class? The villains picked the wrong fight, because the members of class 1a are going to be might heroes indeed - and he’s going to make sure of it.

All Might really does have completely faith in this class, it’s incredible. 

As an aside, I know it’s probably a small editing mistake, but Izuku lying back down in one panel just to be back up in a seated position the next one is just. Fucking hilarious.

As a last weird bit. Tsukauchi just. Tapping his ear here? Either that’s a teeny foreshadowing of the quirk the fandom believes he has, or it’s just. A really weird gesture. 

(I want to clarify, for people who aren’t aware of it, but Horikoshi has never actually confirmed that Tsukauchi has a truth-sensing quirk. His sister’s quirk, which is touch-based lie detection, is confirmed in the Vigilantes side manga, but not his!)

We get some narration as time passes - classes were cancelled the next day (Thursday), but the class couldn’t rest easy. After that (presumably the day after, which would be Friday), we come back to all of the class waiting for morning homeroom to start. Tenya is vibrating as he directs the class, stating that morning homeroom’s about to begin, so everyone to their seats. Sero points out that everyone else is sitting, and that he’s the only one up. 

The classroom door opens to reveal a heavily bandaged Aizawa, who gives them a brief greeting as he wobbles his way in. The class is shocked that he’s back already, calling him an undeniable pro. Tenya, who finally is in his seat, snaps his hand up as he states he’s glad to see him doing well, which Ochako mutters about whether you can really call that ‘doing well.’

Aizawa shakes his head, stating that his welfare isn’t important, because their fight is far from over. The class is confused at that statement, with Katsuki, Izuku, and Mineta all questioning his statement. Aizawa clarifies himself - UA’s sports festival is fast approaching.

The class gasps, clamoring about how that’s so totally ordinary.

And with that, we’ve wrapped up the chapter and the USJ arc. I’ll probably do a few side posts before moving on to said arc, since the sports festival is 23 chapters long (ch 22-44) - longer than everything that’s happened up to this point in the manga!

Today I am full of bitterness, so in order to properly get it out of my system I'm going to outline how I would rewrite My Hero Academia season one.

Real quick, I want to say that I'll be keeping any canon ships or romantic interests despite what I personally ship.

Here we go.

The Galactic Season One Rewrite

Episode Four: The Entrance Exam

This is where the changes start as I don't have any problems with the first three episodes. While the first change is minor I feel like it would be an improvement.

For awhile, Aoyama is featured prominently that I would understand if people thought he was going to be a prominent character. While this boils down to lack of foresight (in the beginning you don't really know who you should pay attention to), it will be a small change.

Instead of all those Aoyama scenes, we'll have Uraraka take them over. In these scenes Uraraka should be shown saving others. This is to give the audience a hint at her ambition to become a rescue hero and her selfless nature.

Episode Five: What I Can Do For Now

This is where the changes really begin.

There are no notable changes at first, Iida properly introduces himself to Midoriya and Uraraka shows up excited that Midoriya got in. We have our cute Izuchaco moment.

Aizawa gives his iconic introduction, and everyone is outside ready for the quirk apprehension exam.

Our next change comes to the fact that Aizawa is fully aware of All Might watching. I think this is canon, but I want Aizawa to dwell on why the top hero like All Might is interested in a simple quirk apprehension test.

The next change is minor, but the Aoyama scene here is replaced with an Asui scene. In canon she is partnered with Iida in the fifty meter dash. Asui clears the fifty meter with a single leap. Iida still beats her with his quirk, but he is rather impressed by her display of jumping power.

At the ball throw, Aizawa is surprised when Midoriya recognizes him as despite being well known in the underground he is still an underground hero with no publicity.

Then, I incorporate the trauma Midoriya 100% has from being isolated from his peers and being treated unfairly by his teachers.

Aizawa criticizes him, but this time Midoriya gets a flashback to a faceless teacher criticizing him for antagonizing a star student like Bakugou. Midoriya starts to tremble, and Aizawa instantly stops. He recognizes the signs of a panic attack, and All Might's stressed out body language.

Aizawa, as the experienced teacher he is, changes his tactics instantly. While still blunt, his tone is softer when he explains that Midoriya needs to learn quickly that destroying his body all the time is only going to make him a liability and end his hero career earlier than it should.

Midoriya, now able to refocus with a new hope that if he takes Aizawa's advice he will listen to him in the future regarding other problems. Midoriya does his one finger throw. Aizawa is impressed with the creativity and notes All Might's surprise as well.

Episode Six: Rage You Damn Nerd

Uraraka and Iida are thrilled that Midoriya has seems to have Aizawa's approval. Bakugou then rushes Midoriya like he does in canon. When Aizawa wraps his scarves around Bakugou, he remarks that Bakugou will get detention for unsanctioned quirk use.

Both Midoriya and Bakugou are surprised, which unnerves Aizawa as he pulls Bakugou back. Aizawa then reveals the ranking with Mineta in last place this time. He says Midoriya got ahead with points for creativity. He reveals the logical ruse he employed, then leaves with Yaoyorozu remarking she already knew.

As another minor changes I want the girls in Class 1-A to be amazed with Yaoyorozu's placement. I also want Bakugou to attack Yaoyorozu out of no where because he believes she is another bug he can simply crush. Yaoyorozu disproves this as she quickly makes a shield to protect herself.

Aizawa gives Bakugou another detention leaving Bakugou and Midoriya confused once again.

(Full Admission: I wanted a cool Yaoyorozu moment to cement her as the most powerful student in 1-A).

Aizawa writes Midoriya an absentee note so he can see Recovery Girl about his finger. As Aizawa leaves he is confronted by All Might who calls his bluff on having an expulsion record. Aizawa says that the quick thinking of Midoriya was what kept him in Aizawa's class. Aizawa then criticizes All Might for already having favorites as he noticed the number one hero's interest in Midoriya. All Might panics that Aizawa has figured out the connection already, but Aizawa just tells All Might that playing favorites causes bitterness among other students.

Everything is the same with Iida and Uraraka catching up with Midoriya and the three walking home together. 1-A then goes through the day until fundamental hero lessons. Everyone has their original costumes as the support course hasn't been introduced yet.

Everything goes like normal.

Episode Eight: Bakugou's Start Line

As soon as Midoriya, Uraraka, Iida, and Bakugou come out Aizawa's scarves come out to wrap around Bakugou. 1-A and All Might are surprised at Aizawa's sudden appearance. Aizawa says he is going to expell Bakugou on the grounds of assaulting another classmate with the intention of severely harming them. All Might stops this, admitting that he should have stopped the fight when Bakugou was gearing up his gauntlets.

Aizawa takes a deep breath, and says that Bakugou is able to stay in the hero class for another day but will be suspended, no longer having a seat near Midoriya, and will have his gauntlets revoked until Aizawa says differently. Aizawa drags Bakugou away to fill out the proper paperwork.

The other teams do the exercise as normal, and Yaoyorozu files a formal complaint regarding Mineta. At the end of the day, Midoriya does not tell Bakugou the secret of One for All. Instead, Midoriya watches Bakugou walk away for his first day of suspension surrounded by Iida and Uraraka chatting about the excercise. Midoriya does the ending internal monologue about how he learned the difference between friends and torments.

With these changes, I would rename the title of the episode to The Line Drawn. In a reference to the fact that UA and Aizawa will not put up with Bakugou's bs like his former schools.

Episode Nine: Yeah, Just Do Your Best Iida

Now it is time for our first rapid fire changes.

It is the first day without Bakugou in class, which means the USJ Arc will not include Bakugou at any point in the story.

Todoroki and Bakugou's seats have been switched, so it is time for some awkward conversations between TodoDeku.

Iida tells Uraraka and Midoriya that Aizawa and his brother were school friends so he tries his best to remain professional.

Yaoyorozu is class repersentative, while Midoriya is the class vice repersentative. After Iida calms the school down, Midoriya intends for Iida to take his position. Yaoyorozu is concerned she did not handle the situation as good as Iida, and Iida takes the class repersentative role with Yaoyorozu as his vice. This will start Yaoyorozu's confidence issues.

Since Bakugou is not on the bus, this scene is dedicated to Uraraka who is excited to have Thirteen teaching them. Uraraka says she is a huge fan of Thirteen, and hopes to get an autograph afterwards if she has the time. She also reveals her motivation to become a rescue hero.

Thirteen is agender.

Episode Ten: Encounter With the Unknown

Aizawa does not hesitate to leap into action when the villians show up, and shows off his amazing abilities as a pro hero. He shows off the abilities of the capture weapon.

Thirteen is ready to evacuate the students, but Kurogiri warps over like he does in canon, and this time it is Kirishima and Mina who attack him without hesitation. This is to cement Mina as the most muscular of the other girls, and her and Kirishima's role in each other's lives. The attack didn't do anything when Kurogiri warps the other students away from each other.

Everything continues as normal.

As Hagakure joins Ojiro in the Fire Zone, she uses the flames as a source of light to reflect. Once she blinds the villains, Ojiro takes them down.

As Mina joins Kirishima in the Ruins Zone, she uses her acid as a way to trip up villains and uses her reflexes and dance moves to annihilate the chameleon villian Bakugou originally did.

As Shoji joins Tokoyami and Koda in the Squall Zone, he uses his quirk to locate Koda so Tokoyami can protect him.

Everything continues as normal as all the teachers show up to finish off the League of Villains. All the teachers get their moment.

Episode Thirteen: In Each of Their Hearts

After our neighborhood detective reassures all the students and we get the cool still shots with the gold lighting it is time for what I was preparing this whole time for.

Aizawa calls All Might and Midoriya to his hospital room and lays down that he has figured out that the two are connected somehow by their quirks.

All Might and Midoriya are shocked, but considering they are backed into a corner they tell Aizawa about One for All. After Aizawa chews All Might out for not telling him that one of his students only recently got a quirk, he says he'll have to give Midoriya extra lessons so his body is strong enough to handle One for All. Aizawa also puts together that if Midoriya didn't have a quirk before than that means he was quirkless. Suddenly, everything makes sense to Aizawa about the BakuDeku relationship.

The final small change is the next day at lunch, Uraraka brings Asui over to Midoriya and Iida. She wants to thank Midoriya for his quick thinking, and says that she and Uraraka bonded over wanting to be Rescue Heroes.

Summary of the Changes

Bakugou realizes he isn't the best anymore, and starts to face consequences for his actions.

Aizawa knows about One for All, and Midoriya has two father figures in his corner now.

The Girls of 1-A get more screentime to show off their potential to be heroes.

The Background characters get some extra scenes to show off their potential to be heroes.

Uraraka gets prominent character moments.

A good chunk of the class is biracial.

Changes That Didn't Make It

Aizawa Backstory moment where Aizawa would erase Kurogiri's quirk only to be freaked out by a familiar bone structure taking form.

Jeez, that was brutal for my fingers, but that is how I would have wrote the first season of My Hero Academia. I plan on continuing, but I think I'll be splitting posts up into arcs now because doing a whole season was a bit too much at once.

Plus, there are a lot of changes I'll be making with the Sports Festival Arc.
